He is easy grader 9when you do your job), very helpful, funny. if you study, you will have no problems.
He is very clear and as long as you show up and pay attention you will do fine. Attendance is not mandatory but you need to go, so you know whats going on. Definetly take him for econ 200. If you give effort you will get an A
wonderful professor. he is very passionate about teaching and knows what he is talking about. I have never been sad that a class was over before this class. highly recommended.
He's a really good teacher that's full of energy. Most of us would go to class just for his enthusiasm even if attendance wasn't mandatory. You have to read the book and complete a handout (that he grades on effort) before starting a new chapter. Even though this was a pain it turned out to be vey useful in learning the material.
enthusiastic prof, really a nice guy. Encourages coming to office hours if your having trouble, and wants you to do well. He won't just give it to you though. Microecon is much harder (in my opinion) then Macroecon. You actually need to study in Micro. You can't really go wrong with this guy, unless your looking to do zero work and get a good grade
not clear at all and his explanation is useless!
Explains everything alot, but his quiz's are hard. Gives you a packet to do before every quiz thats super hard... good thing he doesnt grade if its right or wrong. Hes really enthusiastic but it gets old after a while, espeically at 10am in the morning. Doesnt let you use calc's on tests either. 6/10.
I loved how he was bouncy, and he definatelyl made the class interesting. It was a little hard how he wanted us to do a worksheet on the next chapter before we are done with the previous one, but other than that it was a great class!
This guy is excited about economics so much that he cant even teach it well.He goes way too fast and doesnt cover the material completely. It should have been an easier class than it was.He gives a 3 page handout before every chapter before he teaches it. His quizzes are almost impossible to do. There's five quizzes and a final. I hated this class.
he was a good professor, BUT he makes you learn the material on your own first and the tests are nothing like the worksheets. And he doesnt let you use a calculator which if you have any sort of trouble with math you are screwed.
Interesting subject and requires work. Excellent professor. Full of energy. Explains subject very well and expects and college level understanding of subject. Tests are essay based and challenging. Grading system that attempts to give as much credit as possible.Demonstrating complete understanding required for full credit. HW and participation rqd.
He is a very bouncy teacher and I love being in his class. He usually want us to learn/read the material first before he teaches it, which is kinna hard. He don't use a book and his reading stuff didn't "connect" very well. He explain question using "beating around the bush" method (usually take about 10 mins per question). Hard tests!
Great personality. He really enjoys doing his job and makes class very enjoyable. Explains things very well in class, but the problem is there is a ton of stuff he doesnt go over at all. All of this material is on his quizes, making them extremely challenging and he gives a final that is very long and very difficult.
Professor Osoba is overall a very nice and funny guy, he is also helpful if you are having difficulties trying to follow in class. However, I find him to be extremely difficult so you definitely need to follow along in this class if you want to get a good grade. Tests are challenging and he doesn't allow you to use a calculator if you may need to.
He is a really nice goofy guy, but he is very challenging. The assignments are long and the exams are impossible. The material is just boring itself. He watches everyone like a hawk on exam days.
Dr. Osoba is the best Econ teacher at the school he's fun and energetic. You will have to work really hard for your grade but overall I was extremely happy with the class and will be taking him again
Dr. Osoba is the best Econ prof. at the school. He's fun, energetic and knows his stuff. Although, you will have to work really hard for your grade, its worth it. Read material before hand, do HW, participate in class, review material after class, study for exams, do the project and present. Take his class and put the work in to get an A.
great teacher! very enthusiastic aout his subject. he made the class very interesting and fun. the exams: watch out, he gives the definations and you must give the word. that threw me off. But great Teacher!
He is difficult and expects a lot, but you will learn a lot in return. Exams are based upon problem sets and review packets - commit all of these into your cognitive frameworks and you will get an A - this is easier said than done. Incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable man - it's like Freakanomics came alive. Fun class.. NOT EASY.
Horrible teacher and didnt explain anything when you had questions. Exams are extremely long and doesnt give you enough time to finish. The final was about 15 pages long front and back!!! Dont take him honestly, a lot of people failed his class.
If you are looking to learn, take this class. If you are looking for an easy A, drop this class. Very interesting class and he is extremely funny. Not a lot of work that is mandatory. Just show up to the test and show him what you learned. IF YOU EVEN STUDY IN THE SLIGHTEST BIT YOU WILL GET AN A.
One of the elite at Central, highly involved with every student's' success in class and life. You get what you put in, don't expect to breeze through it's its a 400 level. 4 tests, weekly hw, large project/paper/debate. His grading system is awesome, gives you many second and third chances.
Take his class. Very clear. If you don't understand, he is extremely patient and will explain and relate situations to current events. If econ isn't your strong points, he's a great teacher to actually explain what's going on instead of talking above your head. The book is really useful for definitions and DO THE STUDY GUIDES.
Great professor. He is very passionate about the subject and tries his best to get students interested. Stresses his flexibility of office hours. Problem sets are kind of hard, but based on effort. If you do the work you will pass with a great grade and if you don't you can very easily fail. I recommend as long as you're willing to do work.
Make sure you study! He only has two exams but they are extremely hard. Make sure you do problem sets because they will bring grade up and help you. Do all readings and print reviews ahead of time! Osoba is an odd man but he is super funny and keeps you interested.
My favorite professor at central. He truly loves econ and keeping students involved. Do the problem sets, and the exam review is similar to the actual exam. Easy A if you take the time to study. He wants you to succeed, and helps every student inside and outside of the class
Super hyper professor, really funny and tries to make what you are learning easy to comprehend and relatable. The exams are not easy at all, you have to know a ton of vocab and be able to do out things done in class. Your lowest grade is dropped if you do well on the final. There are assignments that are optional! Over all pretty good teacher.
Professor Osoba is one of the best teachers in Central, anybody willing to put time and effort into his class will be actually learn a lot. Grades are fair, no extra points you will get what you deserve. Know stats, some calculus before taking his class and you will be fineI wish I could've known him before my senior year.
Economics is not a fun class and the information is dull but he is HILARIOUS and so helpful. If you need help he is right there. There are packets to do once a week that are optional but help your grade. His grading policy is the best; If you do well on the final it replaces ALL of your other test grades. Truly a caring guy that helps you pass.
Don't need to buy the book because class is based off online reading, provided on Blackboard. He have the book on hold in the library if needed. He's a great professor, you'll will learn a lot from his class. P.s. You have to be on top of your game.
Great class for a difficult subject. Dude is absolutely hilarious, talks about the markets for meth and crack to keep you interested. If you miss a class though you're gonna fall behind. Go to every class and do the reading. Don't need the book usually. It's all online.
Thinks everyone is an econ major. Test reviews are 20-30 pages long. I would never recommend him as a teacher although he is a nice guy. He made me absolutely hate economics. Please do yourself a favor and do not take him
I wish I would have read this place a little better. I would have taken someone else. I am not enjoying the class at all. After 7 weeks of class we started talking Macro. I wish I could have dropped it but I was well into it. No turning back now. I am going to struggle to pass this class. I'm not majoring in Econ and I think, he thinks we are.
Here's the deal with Brian and his class. He's a great man, very energetic but is a very tough grader. His class is 2 exams then a final. If you receive a better grade on the final than the other two exams, he'll replace them with your final exam grade (NOT AN EASY EXAM) you must read and study to succeed but is 100% manageable.
Brian Osoba brings a great attitude to class, makes quirky jokes, and lectures for the entirety of every class. That being said, he has many flaws with how he structures the course and his exams. His tests are very difficult and many students bust their butts just to scrape by and pass Econ 201. I do not recommend him to any student.
Really Nice Guy and he is very available to help with material. Econ can be tough and econ teachers should try to simplify certain things. Osoba doesn't really do this, he gives confusing examples that doesn't always answer your full question. He also asks very opened ended questions expecting very specific answers on tests. Deff bring your A game
His tests are a little ridiculous The way he grades almost makes little to no sense when you look over the answers he posts. Hell take off points half points if you put 1 sign wrong in a math problem. Also if you mis label a graph he takes off many more points that deserves to be taken. There are way better econ teachers out there, skip this one.
THERE WAS ALWAYS SOMETHING TO DO AND HE PUTS YOU IN A GROUP FOR THE WHOLE SEMESTER. WOULDN'T RECOMMEND TAKING HIM.
He's very energetic, all smiles all the time. Always tries to make jokes and lighten up a difficult/boring subject. He never says an answer is incorrect, he always tries to make what you said relate to the topic even if it doesn't. He's encouraging and freq has time to help. Class is mostly reading materials, no actual textbook, lots of prep needed
Lectures are unclear, do not pertain to the information on the test until the final review day, then he tries to teach everything in 70 minutes. Thinks we are all economic majors and he is our only class. Goes off on tangents and makes jokes that don't pertain to anything. Tests are extremely difficult and takes points off for the smallest errors.
Nice, funny guy who cares enough to learn everyones names. Calls on everyone at random. Don't miss a single class or you will fall behind. Tests are entirely open ended, studying hard is mandatory. Offers 5 big extra credit packets. Tiny readings and videos on syllabus for homework. The class is hard, but if you give your all you will do good.
Osoba is awesome! I had him for economics, and I really enjoyed the class. It was definitely difficult and a lot of work. His tests are long, they are all open-ended short answers, graphs, and essays. Although the class is difficult, Osoba is a quirky professor who makes the actual class fun. I learned a lot and will be taking him next semester.
Lots of assigned work and long tests but an easy grader and a great guy. Fun class.
he is the best professor ever. lots of group work involved makes the class very fun and enthusiastic. he cares for his students and just wants everyone to pass. makesure to do the reading and also to do the reviews posted on black board for the exams. they are similar. dont skip class.
Prof. Osoba is very strict, not very detailed with his explanation and is all over the place. Be sure to purchase textbook as without it you will fail. A lot of the course is teaching yourself. He is a strict grader and doesn't let you use a calculator. I wouldn't take him again if they paid for the class.
Professor Osoba is definitely tough. He challenges you to learn and understand the material. He is an interesting professor, funny, and organized. He encourages students to visit his office hours. There are 2 exams which make up your grade. If the final exam score is higher than any of your exams, it replaces it. If you study hard you'll do fine.
Professor Osoba is a great guy! Even though he grades heavily on his Exams, he makes his class fun and engaging for all students. He is also passionate about the topic of Economics and wants for his students to succeed! He was a great professor to have during my first semester at CCSU.
awesome teacher
hesss amazing!!!! take him
Definitely, do the packets he hands out even though they are "optional". Most of the questions are on the tests. Also, no word banks so learn your definitions. STUDY FOR TESTS.
Osoba likes to call on you in class even if your hand isnt up. Hes supper nice and a little to energetic for my liking. Gives optional problems sets, do them. Exams are difficult, no multiple choice and all open ended, lots of memorization
He's a nice guy, but his teaching style is super weird. No textbook, which means lots of reading of links off of BlackBoard. Complete every single question on the Problem Sets or no credit - just write anything in; he just checks to see you did it! All exams are open-ended. This is a course you really need to teach yourself.
He's a super nice teacher. He has a comprehensive knowledge of what he is teaching and if you ever need help, he will try to explain abstract concepts in different ways. As long as you go to class and pay attention, you will pass. No real required homework aside from short readings.
Osoba is a really nice teacher, but I would personally never take this class again. I would only recommend taking this class if you are an economics major or you have a love for it. The test are really hard and you have to memorize everything. You won't understand any of the study guides unless you go to him for help. Take it online if you can!
Prof. Osoba is extremely knowledgeable about the field of Economics, and cares about each of his students. Your grade is the sum of 3 open-ended exams (and 6 optional Problem Sets). If you are not a strong test taker, I would not recommend taking this professor. (NO TEXTBOOK REQUIRED FOR THIS CLASS!)
Dr Osoba is a difficult professor, but I learned a great deal in his class. Well worth the time and money. Very different approach. Very Interactive. Very heavy work load, a lot of time is required for reading, problem sets, papers, exams (cumulative final). He is genuinely dedicated to Economics and teaching.
Extremely hyper, hard to follow, lots of information all at once, tests are impossible
Listen, he's a good teacher but his final review was an 18-page packet and on top of that 70 vocab words to know. Little ridiculous if you ask me.
Worst class I have ever been in, your grade will be determined by three impossible tests and problem sets that are worth about 1% of the final grade. He is is all over the place. Problem sets can only be answered using all of his links, good luck with that. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS/PROFESSOR
Your entire grade is based off of 3 exams that he does not prepare you well for at all. He offers homework that can help improve your exam scores but the homework takes between 1-3 hours to complete sometimes longer.
Hes a decent guy but the way he teaches class is ridiculous. Your grade is based off of 2 exams and the final and for the 2 exams he grades so hard. Theres vocab with no word bank, any little detail he takes off points, hes just not a good professor, do everything you can to avoid him in order to save your gpa
This is probably the hardest class I have ever taken. He is a great guy, but the exams are borderline impossible no matter how much work you put into studying. The work he has us do and the exams are made so much harder than they have to be. This class is about to destroy my gpa because I didn't listen to the other reviews on here...
Took Prof. Osoba two semesters back-to-back and not only did he remember past students, but he would also genuinely take the time to ask how you've been, what you've been up to, and will reference past class information. He's quite old-fashioned and is a very paper and pencil type of guy, but he's a fair grader, and the syllabus is easy to follow.
Great guy who truly cares about his students. You definitely need to pay attention, but if you are confused he will always be ready to help you. 10/10 recommend
Professor Osoba is one of my favorite professors I've ever had. He makes it a point to learn everyone's names and get to know his students. He's very high energy and there is a lot of information to absorb, but I think if you pay attention, do your readings, and actively participate in class, this is an easy A.
Hes pretty funny and a cool guy, but if you are not very well educated on these topics and dont want to allocate a fair amount of time towards this course then I wouldnt recommend this class for you. If you love economics you will be fine, but if it is hard for you, do yourself a favor and take an easier professor
DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY HES AWFUL. RUN AWAY. your entire grade is based off of 3 exams and the homework takes hours and only adds one pt to your exam. He goes off in class about random other things and seems like hes on something.... Exams are hard even if u study and pay attention in class. Just no for this guy. DO NOT EVEN BOTHER
Listen, hes a good teacher. People who put bad ratings onviously dont pay attention. If you have a brain youre gonna pass easily.
Final grade is based heavily on 3 exam scores, the problem sets he assigns only count for a point or two and they take hours to do, and hes INCREDIBLY hard to follow during his classes. Im basically repeating what everyone else has said in these reviews. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR. My gpa wouldve tanked if I stayed in this class.
He's a great guy and energetic in class but you're better off taking a CLEP exam without the struggle of memorizing vocab, deciphering different pages of material instead of a textbook, and studying for exams that may or may not have the material you studied on the exam review.
He goes off on tangents every other sentence and constantly tries (and fails) to be funny. The homework will take hours but also doesnt even count for your grade. the only things graded are two exams and the final. he genuinely expects you to memorize every term and concept and write them out on the exams. take someone else.
Brian is an amazing professor. He really cares deeply for his students. He makes class something to look forward to with his positive, upbeat, and bubbly personality. Make sure you pay attention in class and take notes. If youre confused he will always be there to help. He always cheers up the class. Only con is your graded solely on the exams.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES. His classes are based off of 3 exams and all of them are very hard even if you go to every class and pay attention. Theres so much more to say but please just do not take this class.
He gives six problem sets which are packets and take hours and hours to finish and they barely count towards your grade at all. The only things that are really graded are 3 exams and they are IMPOSSIBLE to do good on even if you go to every class and pay attention. DONT TAKE THIS GUY!
Homework barely counts towards anything but takes hours to complete. Course is graded on three tests that are incredibly difficult, even if you study. Read through half the reviews here. Hes a nice guy but I didnt learn anything from him.
Professor Osoba is incredible! Yes there are a lot of readings, however he clearly explains them in class and is sure to review them numerous times in the case that any student may be confused by it. Genuinely a very sweet person who does everything in his abilities to support his students excel in this course.
DO NOT TAKE OSOBA
He's a very nice guy however his class is VERY difficult class if you haven't seen the content before. Very fast-paced class, and the homework after you spend the 3 hours to do it doesn't clearly explain the content (note there are 5 homework packets for both Micro and Macro I had him for both).
He makes the textbooks free and downloadable! Exams are somewhat challenging, just make sure you go for extra help sooner than later.
PrfOsoba is a good teacher. If you show up, skim his readings, do the problem sets, and study for the exams, you will pass. Exams are completely open-ended but he gives a lot of partial credit. There are easier profs that teach economics-I would recommend him to someone who wants to understand the topic, and doesn't mind putting in some extra work.
Go to class. I learned almost all the material from the lectures and homework. It is very nice that he did not make us purchase a $200 textbook. To some it may seem like a lot of work but it pays off. Not for the student who is looking for an easy A but for the student who wants to work hard to actually learn.
This professor is not for non-traditional students if you work and go to school DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! All the work must be done by hand and then scanned and turned in via Blackboard. If you are someone who has a busy schedule I recommend another class!!
Probably my favorite professor in all of CCSU. The class may get difficult at times, but he is more than willing to meet with you if you need help. Go to his office hours frequently if you can and do the problem sets. Practice doing exam review questions before the exams, they really help.
I am currently taking this class and must I say that I wish there was a way I knew about his teaching styles beforehand. I feel very overwhelmed and honestly I am disappointed at how the grading is set up. For the problem sets to be optional but only count so little towards your final grade is annoying.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! His exams have nothing to do with material that is in lectures. If you try asking for help, he never gives a clear to understand answer in reply. His exams are EXTREMELY tough for no reason.
Professor Osoba is very engaging with his students and makes sure everyone is paying attention. He gives problem sets (which are optional) that lower the value of exams, even though it is not by much, but if you do all the problem sets, the exams are easy. You will need to put in time and effort into the class.
Very accessible outside of class, he kinda throws everything at you on the first day of class but you have to understand that he will push back deadlines if needed and there is basically nothing else besides what you get on the first day. Not a ridiculous amount of work but it is likely his hardest class, so it does take a decent amount of effort.
Do not take him. Constantly gets off topic and it is basically a self teach class. He gives you optional assignments that aren't optional at all. His office hours are very early in the morning and when you talk to him he doesn't give concise answers. The Awnser he gives are very confusing.
Dr. Osoba is my favorite lecturer in all of CCSU. He makes sure you 100% grasp the concepts being taught, and gives you the responsibility to read up on material outside of class. He is very accessible outside of class also. If you are an Econ major who needs elective credits, I highly recommend ECON 432, Economics of Religion.
Love Osoba. Just the right amount of difficulty on his tests. Optional homework packets with set due dates. Always inviting to his office hours, very charismatic.
Definitely won't pass if you don't show up to class. Take his problem sets very seriously if you want the credit on the exams. Everything is in person on paper so if that is not your type than don't take his class. Very nice outgoing guy just lotsss of work.
He's tough, but as long as you put in the effort you'll be okay. Packets for homework - you have to read the material to find the answer, which is the point. Tests are tricky - YOU NEED TO STUDY. If you don't understand something, go to his office hours. He will help you, but not if you don't ask. He cares about the course and his students.
He's really nice and energetic. He give problem sets and those are considered “optional” and if u do it you get a point on the next exam. He assigns students to sit with a group for the week and students have to work with that group. He's really big on going to his office hours. The exams are hard lowk especially if you don't study.
