This teacher makes history very interesting by giving similar analagies and making it overall fun to learn. He is very helpful when it comes to tests by concentrating on the more relevant info. I am definitely taking another History class with him.
Mr. Walsh taught the history class with a lot of enthusiasm which made the class very interesting. He wasn't the easiest teacher at Pierce, but if you go to class and take notes, you should be fine. If I had to take another history class, I would take another one of his classes.
I personally didn't like him, too many rules and to strict. You have to take a lot of notes, he gives a lot of information. I just dropped his class today.
Looks young to be a professor and is relaxed in his manner. Strict towards cell phones and tardiness. But he's a superb teacher of History and his lectures are more detailed than the text. He's very funny and brings alive the events that are discussed. He knows his stuff, and so will you.
if there is anything you are going to learn about history, things you should of learned in high school, this is the teacher to take. he is strict, yet great and very competent in his subject. I recommend!!!!!!!
Interesting class, explains thoroughly, a lot of notes, and reading
Very interesting, Lots of info but his bark is worse than his bite. Claims to be strict on writing style but in reality if you can write a decent essay youll be fine. No homework besides reading and 1 prohect late in the semester
Great!
He's very enthusiastic about the class. He knows a lot about the subject. He's only strict about tardiness and cell phones (he will kick you out).. His test are very easy. Lots of lecture notes. Guaranteed A if you go to class, take all the notes, and know how to right decent essays.
Professor Walsh is an excellent teacher. He gives great instite on what took place during the era of time. He explains everything in detail. Always will to answer all of your question. Definitely recommend!
Brian is the man!! i loved his class. he puts history into perspective and makes it fun to learn about, highly recomended. he is really educated but doesnt think he is better then his students. he is anal about tardiness and cell phones, but besides that his class is enjoyable to the max!! brians is the man!
This guy is such a prick. He is bitter and grades hard. You need at least a 92 to get an A on exams and they are all essay questions. He hates answering questions and is a drama queen. He doesn't care if you dont show up for class other than on test days but you have to be there everyday to know whats going on because he doesn't go out of the book.
Young,energetic,entertaining.1 term paper.4 tests all with 2 essay questions.Use the ample time he gives you for the tests, don't get anxious when the morons finish writing two essays in 5 minutes.Lots of notes.Nonspecific review before test(it's the learn by fear method.)Fair grader, retain the main points he covered and write an organized essay.
don't take him.....
A very nice teacher. Young, charismatic, funny, LOVES to talk. Explains everything in a very simple and understandable manner. All tests are doable essay questions. To do good at them you need to listen to him and to take notes. Makes you feel at ease at his class. TOTALLY RECOMMENDED!
He is the man. The essay questions are easy. As long as you take good notes and read the text you should be fine also he makes the class fun. I always looked forward to his class, just to here his next joke about history. I got an A, just study the material and you should be fine.
He's a great guy and he's extremely inteligent. He knows his stuff. If your not interested in the subject matter expect to fall asleep. He really loves to talk. One essay at the end of the term, 3 tests and a fina. The test are only 2 essay questions but be sure to answer them COMPLETELY or you will not get a good grade. Very hard to please.
People are saying hes energetic but I think he seems kind of lethargic and cynical. If you pay close attention you will see what I mean. As far as his knowledge goes it seems to be basic knowledge and nothing in depth. That you will see as well. IF you enjoy history I recommend finding someone else but if you need the class then by all means
Prof. Walsh is the man! Unless you're a complete idiot, you'll love the guy. Funny has hell and really knows his stuff. If you like history, you'll love his class. If you don't like history, then no teacher is going to help. Chat him up after class, he's really cool and laid back. Nothing like a young professor to make things relevant.
A very good instructor! All tests are essay and where he flexes the nitpickiness. :) I would have loved the opportunity to ask him more about the subject, but, it was a short term class. If you can, take a moment and speak to him, he's nice and very smart. Also hot in a Jim Breuer kinda way.
He is hard. His tests are hard essay questions and he wants you to answer them in details or else he will mark you down. Very hard to please. he will kick you out of class if you accientally get a phone call during class. Tries hard to be funny but does not work. Dont take him, you will be sorry if you do.
Wow this guy has some serios issues...likes dressing like he is representing the bronx..tries to be funny but the only thing funny about him is his face..had to suffer 3hrs evry monday to listen t his MOST boring lectures...got a B..prolly wouldve had an A if his A range wasn't from 100-92%...UNBELIEVABLE
Bottom line, if you read the textbook, pay attention to his lectures and atleast TRY to understand the progressions of the material, you'll get a good grade. However, if you have the attention span of a fruit fly, have no sense of humor, and think you'll get by while avoiding involvement, then...wow....should you even BE in college?
I wrote the 1/08/07 comment. I didn't see the option when I rated him the first time, but I'd like him to know that, yep, he's definitely hot. Nothing like a great sense of humor, a conscious mind, and an east coast accent.
Fairly nice and funny guy personally. However, he’s a hard teacher. He gives a total of 4 written exams and 1 research paper which make up your entire final grade. An A is 100%-92%! So he is not generous with the grading scale.
VERY INTELLIGENT. KNOWS HIS STUFF REALLY WELL. MAKES DISCUSSION VERY INTERESTING. VERY STRICT ABOUT CELLPHONES & TARDINESS. A GIRL IN MY CLASS WHOSE PHONE WENT OFF DURING AN EXAM WAS KICKED OUT OF THE CLASS. ONLY 4 ESSAY EXAMS. JUST ANSWER 2/4 IN 3 OR MORE PARAGRAPHS AND YOU'LL BE FINE. WHETHER YOU HATE OR LOVE HISTORY, TAKE BRIAN WALSH!
This Professor is so lazy! he doesnt want to do anything, it has been a week after the final, summer session today and he still hasnt given out grades yet,he had 2 weeks to grade the research paper&he had not either.I wouldnt recomend him to those who cnt stand unorganized ppl.But other than that i think he teaches ok,eventhoug this was a hard class
I have no idea what people are talking about because I absolutely enjoyed Professor Walsh's class. The man gave a 3 hour long lecture and not once was I bored. His grading curve is a 92%+ for an A, but if you put in the effort, it's completely possible to attain. Show up to class, take good notes, and review them before an exam. Great honors class!
BPW is a great history professor: he's funny, intelligent, and very eloquent. Text book use is quite low so if you pay attention in class and take notes, you'll be fine. Cons: A serious Nazi about cell phones, tardiness, and not bringing Blue Books to class. Despite his strictness, I rate him high as an educator. Go, New Jersey!
EXTREMLEY INTERESTING TEACHER! i love history and he makes me love it even more! he is very witty and is realistic! i love his personality and loved his class since day one. i dont know how u cannot like him! i HIGHLY RECCOMEND him! i am not a morning person yet i am on time to his class at 8:00AM! :]
I really wish he could open up discussion more. He's extremely interesting and smart. I don't think anyone could know more about history and someone from the east coast. He's hot in a Dennis Leary kinda way, except less angry. He's a reallllyyy hard grader. Don't use anything he says in class on the 4 exams he gives out. You probably won't get an A
ok he talks too much and he thinks hes funny but hes not. his tests are essay questions he doesnt give multiple choice. there are probably easier history teachers out there.. and if your late to his class he wont even let you in. i would know...
He is so busy trying to be cool & funny (unsucessfully) that he forgets about subject at hand. He always goes off on tangeants & personal anecdotes. My lecture notes are really unorganized because of his style of teaching. His tests are really specific & random essay questions so studying for hours didn't help me. Takes forever to hand back tests
He has the most ridiculous grading curve ever. A 92% and up is considered an A. Since when are students punished for getting a 90 or 91? This means you have to get a near perfect score on both essays to get an A on the test! I wish I had known this before taking him.
Great knowledge of subject. Won't let you in if you're later than 10 minutes. Nazi when it comes to cell phones. Entertaining. Grading curve = horrible. Tests are essay only; they're very specific & some were barely mentioned in notes. Fall = 2 quiz, 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 term paper. If you take him be prepared to work extra hard for a B and up.
i absolutely LOVE this teacher! i was always disinterested in US history before, but he made it so fun! i didnt find him difficult, just make sure you take a s-load of notes and pay attention. his grading curve is a little bit strict, but hey, he only expects the best from you. most definitely recommend him. and did i mention he's HILARIOUS?! =)
Professor Walsh is a cool guy, but he is not a good teacher. He knows history very well, but when he lectures he often goes off topic. He just talks. It is a lecture based class, but it is impossible to take notes. He speaks to the class like hes hanging out with his friends talking about history, hes not professional. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!!!
DON'T TAKE HIM. PLEASE TRUST ME ON THIS I TOOK HIS CLASS. HE DIDN'T LET ME IN THE SECOND DAY OF CLASS BECAUSE I WAS LATE. HE'S ANNOYING AND THINKS HE'S FUNNY BUT HE'S REALLY NOT. HE TALKS ALL PERIOD AND JUST EXPLAINS WHAT HAPPENED IN "HISTORY" NO DETAILS OR ANYTHING BUT EXPECTS US TO GIVE DETAILS ON THE TEST. WOW. HE'S REALLY IGNORANT. HIS TESTS AR
All in all he's a very likeable, entertaining, and intelligent guy. His all essay tests are too specific and very stressful to study for because he doesn't give you any guidance in how to prepare. He could use more organization in his lectures. He did keep me entertained & laughing during one of the most boring subjects and for that I'm thankful.
Amazing teacher. Ties history in with modern day events. Just don't be more than 10 min late, take a lot of notes, turn off your cell phone and PAY ATTENTION and you'll be fine.
This class is not easy..but the professor is great. The lectures are very interesting and he keeps you entertained the whole time. Dont be late and leave ur cell phone in ur car cuz he kicks u out if it goes off. If you take good notes ull be fine. Concentrate on the lecture notes for the tests cuz he doesn't give study guides.
He can be funny at times and make the subject interesting but his tests are extremely hard!! you never know what he wants. stay as far away as u can if you want to get a B or higher.
Walsh is one of the best professor's i've ever taken. VERY FUNNY and entertaining. he makes it easy to understand. if you take good notes, which you should be doing anyway for college level, then you'll do fine.
worst professor ever! try to avoid him if possible!!!
Very unfair professor! Do not take him!
I don't understand what a lot of people are saying about Prof Walsh, he's a great teacher, has a sense of humor, and keeps the class entertaining. I took his class over summer and got a B w/out much effort.
PEOPLE THAT DONT FIND HIM FUNNY ARE USUALLY THE ONES THAT DONT UNDERSTAND HIS JOKES..HES NOT DIFFICULT TO GET A B OR HIGHER...IN FACT HES ONE OF THE EASIER TEACHERS...AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL U SHOULD NOT BE TEXTING OR COMING IN LATE REGULARLY ANYWAY.
Walsh keeps you interested. Although he is really funny his class is hard. He only gives tests and there is no homework. 5 to 10 page paper at the end of the semester.
Best professor ever!I've taken 3 of his classes. I love the way he teaches. Don't know why people complain that his classes are hard because im an average high school student(not an A+ student) and i got an A in all 3 of his classes that i took through pierce. You can pass his tests if you come to class everyday and take good notes on his lectures.
Amazing, interesting, relatable, funny, & cute. His lectures are hilarious and educaional something u don't get a lot. I had such a wonderful time in his class it almost hurt to leave after the final. Take him! 4tests, 2essays ea, 1paper, easy grader. come 2 class, don't b late he'll lock u out after 10 min!, don't buy book. take notes have fun(:
Hes a nice guy,but sheesh- does he suck as a teacher. He skips around the subject and doesnt clarify ANYTHING.will go on tangents about something that u think is important & not test u on it.Tests r comprised of 4 essay questions which r basically impossible to study for-he did a review and reviewed NONTHING on it.Oh & he taught our class backwards!
WHAT A HORRIBLE PROFESSOR! hes a nice guy, but hes horrible at teaching. he needs 2 find a new profession.he is incomprehensible, goes off on tangents, & basically pulls the essay questions out of nowhere. he reviewed for our final& NOTHING he discussed was on our actual exam. he taught our class backwards and he jumped all over the material.
Again I don't know why some students complained about Walsh's teaching....they must have got bad grades? I took 09 winter session, never missed class/late, took notes, read the book, turned off my phone and asked questions. HE EVEN SANG FOR OUR CLASS, not well. He is not a boring old history teacher and expects you to a responsible student.
I find it funny that people complain about having to take notes, show up to class, turn off your cell phones/devices, learn materail to take a test. After all you are paying for your education don't you think at some point you should work for it? Or do you think some one should just give it to you? follow the rules and you will pass his class.
Very informative and entertaining teacher! Attendance and note taking a must, but never dull. I found the book helpful for extra information for the essay tests. You CAN study for these tests. Review your notes, put concepts together and you will be fine. Has no tolerance for cell phones/texting and I respect him for that.
Fun teacher to have won't learn much he lectures & doesn't use the book there is no homework & the tests are essay questions you can't really study since he jumps around a lot & doesn't give you an idea what to study your grade is test & the final paper due at the end that's it if you want a laugh suggest him if you want to learn pick another teach
I think he is a really funny guy, but he makes it close to impossible to study for his tests especially if you are not a history buff. I would not recommend him if you are looking for a little more structure in a class.
this teacher wants to be an "old professor" so bad it hurts. He never gives accurate descriptions for what are going to be on his vague tests and never have an opinion contrary to his or else he will hold a grudge. bad teacher hope he dosent get tenure. Arbitrary test questions that are covered in the material. Garbage.
Let's just say I don't find little guys funny when they seem to be trying too hard to make me laugh. Boring. If you do enjoy just listening to someone go off and you aren't interested in having a clue then take him. It isn't a matter of reading or paying attention, he is too random and his essay questions are unrelated to nearly all.
This is a real college class. Get used to it. If you cant pass him you will have big trouble at a 4yr school. Gives essay tests which allows you to include many things on a topic rather than trying to memorize for a scantron. He is extremely informative on lectures if you know how to take good notes. Welcome to the real world students. Thanx Walsh!
this is not an easy class mostly due to the fact that walsh went to grad school he knows his stuff good teacher and hilarious. tests are essay questions along with a 5-10 page research paper. he did provide xtra credit which i think helped me get an A. take him if u want to be challenged if ur lazy dont take him ull end up with either a D or a C.
consider taking him if u want to be prepared for what a real college class is going to be like. by saying this u can decide for yourself that THIS IS NOT AN EASY CLASS but it is SOOO possible to get an A if u put in hardwork and dedication it can be done, trust me!!!! if i can do it u can too!! WALSH IS GREAT AND HE WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH A LOT.
Extremely disrespectful to Christianity (past and present) in his coverage of History and grossly misrepresents them, Catholics in particular. In general pretty snide and 0 passion for the class.
Walsh is really funny. Every class is like watching a stand up comedy bit. The only thing I didn't like is that I got kicked out of class during a test cause my phone rang, he's really strict about that. Otherwise, he's a really entertaining teacher. Oh yeah, he does that moodle thing though...
i find it astonishing that some people did not enjoy the class! the man is really funny. While he may seem apathetic due to his use of a monotonous voice, the guy really knows his stuff and he wants his students to succeed. And it is up to the student to receive the help that he offers. The tests are essays-which is awesome! was an easy A!
walsh is the only professor that will get u ready for a 4 year univ. READY TO BE CHALLENEGED? TAKE HIM. want to slack off and not do anything? take a different professor. hes funny and explains the material well. push yourself and u can get an A. if i did then u can. love u walsh.
Keeps material memorable, especially the Roman section and Greece. Clearly stated how a Roman emperor was chosen by a game of hide-and-seek "he hid in a closet until the mob found him." With the spartans "they oiled each other up and combed their hair. Their women hid in the dark and pretende to be males." He made me LOL sometimes.
All he does is lecture. Take good notes, or record him because he talks really, really fast. He expects DETAIL on his essay tests. Must write well, or he will tell you to got to the writing lab. Tough teacher. Funny, but tough.
Record all lectures!!! Thats all I can tell you. Very strict grader. Will not supply study guide. Does not encourage class discussions, he just lectures all class. Do not arrive late or use your cell phone. You will be kicked out. NEVER arrive late for a test. Will not let you take it. Challenging teacher, take very good notes and record him.
He's the HARDEST & BEST professor I've ever had. Take him if you are self-disciplined, write well, want to learn to write better & connect your ideas, & have good note-taking skills. Don't take him if you are ever 10 mins late to class, have marginal writing skills, & don't take notes. I got an A with lots of outside research after the lectures.
His lectures are gold, but fast-paced. You'll still need to read the book for more information: his essay questions are designed to make you really digest the material, he obviously doesn't want it spit back out. Not an easy A, but a valuable class for those who want to broaden their knowledge and understanding of history.
Ok Welsh first and for most is a good guy, he's the type of guy you would love to hang out with to hear some jokes and impressions, however hes not so good a teaching history He's too funny sometimes(maybe thats just me) his test are hard, and well lets just say his class is sometimes hard to keep up with. If you like a challenge/joke sign up
I took Walsh some years ago for History 11. Although, I am a student at University of California, Santa Barbara I must say that this instructor does not prepare you much for other history courses. Don't get me wrong, this instructor has great potential it's just he is too picky! This instructor lacked the golden key of UC classes "Study Guides!"
Walsh is not a bad guy! He is actually a good guy but seems that he likes being a tough guy, can't see why. Plenty of other History Professors are relatively nice and informative both at the same time. This man, however, wants to be strict and fail the majority of his students. You will learn a lot but you might not pass his class!
Professor Walsh was a wonderful teacher. He always had interesting analogies to history that always kept my attention. I recommend this class to anyone!!
Great teacher. I definitely learned a lot from him despite everyone complaining about his long lectures. He's a funny guy and keeps his lectures interesting and informative. Don't take this class if you're expecting an easy A. He's a pretty hard grader when it comes to his essay tests. Take good notes, pay attention and you'll do fine. Never needed the book but I had very detailed notes and just studied off of that and still got an A.
Walsh is funny dude that trys to keep his lectures fresh by injecting with humor, which kept me interested. He is a hard grader on the essay question tests though so make sure to include alot of RELEVANT details within your answer. You're able to get an A without the book just take really detailed notes and try not to miss class
OUTSTANDING PROFESSOR. His lectures are well detailed informative, and interesting W/a Great sense of humor. He uses essay tests, so you have to be able to form a decent sentence and paragraph. If you take notes, you too can be a star pupil. I took him twice w/o using the text and aced both semesters.
one word...AWESOME! makes the class so easy to understand. he wants you to know the why's and how's of history. sorry his tests aren't multiple choice out of a book but he really wants to test your comprehension of the subject. take good notes and show up for class. a little outside reading wouldn't hurt either. tough grader but fair.
Walsh is an amazing professor, if you're planning on taking him in the future then do it, but come prepared. He gives essay tests which aren't so bad, they definitely make you learn the subject. No textbook use really, he claims his tests are from the lecture and its true. Amazing professor, VERY funny, very interesting. Take him.
You will learn a lot from this guy. He lectures so well! He compares history to current events so you really get it grilled into your head. I advise getting a textbook because he leaves the details out of his lectures and he has essay tests, so you need all the details you can get. But honestly best history teacher, he's really hard but I recommend him! If you're taking him honors, he curves grades, 92% is the lowest A! So keep it in mind that you have to work hard!
Very hard class! His tests often have nothing to do with what's talked about in class. He locks people out of class if they are more than 10 mins. late, and never remmebers ANY of the names of his students. His tests are essay only, and he's a very tough grader. I love history, but he made me resent it throughout the semester. NOT RECOMMANDED!
Absolutely amazing prof! Its a shame hes not teaching hist86 next sem. Uses essays only for tests, but does give extracred that counts towards the final's grade. Make sure to complete 10 internet shorrt answer questions. Very easy fun class.
Awful. His class is lecture-based but your grade is based on 3 tests and a research paper. His tests are around 5 essay questions in which you have to answer at least 3 but in essay form. Very critical about writing. He simply comes to class and starts lecturing the entire time, he's funny at first but then you realize he really isn't that funny.
Do not use your cell phone, if he sees you texting or even assumes you're texting, he will tell you to leave. Can't talk either or you'll get kicked out as well. His reviews for the tests are hardly helpful but his way of doing it is to put you in groups and write an essay together to which he then reads them aloud as he grades them. Don't bother.
i learned ALOT ! his class is hard it involves taking ALOT of notes and basically memorizing them word for word for the essay test if you aren't lazy and are up for a LITTLE challenge take his class! HE IS ALSO REAAALLLY funny so class is entertaining and interesting
Overall, I think Proffessor Walsh is very informative, humorous, and knows how to keep his students interested. If you attend class regularly, pay attention during lectures, and do your Moodle assignments, then you wont have a problem. I'd warn though, if you are one of the more conservative or religious students then this class may not be for you.
Funny, interesting. Never a boring history class with him. Must take notes and pay attention. Tests are on exactly what's talked about in class. Very strict, but you'll learn more about history than you ever thought you'd care to. If you try and show you care, he will do the same to help you out.
He has an interesting class is really funny you learn a lot but his tests are difficult & he doesnt tell you at all even what might be on the test. Ive read the comments about how his test were all based on lectures he gave but this semester I went to all the classes & his test were all from the book (terrible book too) Doesn't like to be borthered
One of the most horrible professors out there. The only thing he's got going for himself is humor. He is a bit bitter and seems to get a kick out of failing students. He doesn't provide any study guides, doesn't give hints as to what tests will consist of. Not recommended.
His class is very chiil. Not so fair on test. You definately have to try on the tests. Make sure you study more so that you know what to talk about on yoyu test. Do your moodle forums to help your grade. Look up history videos to help you more with studying, specially if yoare a visual learner. Take notes during class an Defiantely pay attention.
i like his class. i don't even have the textbook and i got a B and B+ on my first 2 tests just from studying from the notes. you have to be detailed on your test (dates, names, etc.) He is funny!! So it makes the class chill. He's straight forward and honest.
If you listen to his lecture, takes good notes, and review them, you will get an A with no problem. His test are essay questions, so if you are having problem keeping up in class it is better to review the book afterwards for more details. His class is fun and i will recommend and take him again if i have a chance.
Simply put, Walsh is awesome. If you like lecture formats and take good notes, study the notes and you have an A. Don't even bother with a book. 2 midterms 2 finals and a research paper. He is very strict on phone use (he'll kick you out) and time (he locks you out if you're ten minutes late) but attendance isn't mandatory and he's chill & funny!
Walsh is awesome. His class is purely lectured based. I ended up getting a B in his class. I did not once read the book but i did take really detailed notes nonstop throughout the lectures.Students that complain that walsh is a horrible professor simply do not want to put the effort to write notes throughout the whole class lecture.
walsh is fantastic. he is speaks clearly when he lectures, and will go over something if needed. gets really into it if talking about a subject he likes, it also helps that he his hilarious. take good notes and you dont really need the book. he is an awesome teacher.
You don't talk in Walsh's class. You listen. He enlarged my mind. He's a poet warrior in the classic sense. Sometimes you'll say "hello", suddenly he grabs you, throws you in a corner, says, "Do you know that 'if' is the middle word in life? If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs." I mean, I'm a little man,he's a great man!
Entertaining teacher who has the ability to instill great things in your head and has a bit of a raunchy sense of humor. However, if you imitate his humor on your papers he will grade you as any stand up hypocrite. Stay serious and you'll enjoy his class, but you have to study or you don't have a chance of passing.
Professor Walsh has been my favorite teacher throughout all of my schooling. Now that I'm graduating from UCLA I'd like to simply say that Walsh did a great job in preparing me for UD history courses. His classes forced me to hone my writing/researching skills; keys to success here in UCLA. Great guy, super friendly and funny too. Take him!
A Funny guy and a good lecturer, but he is a hard grader. This class includes: essay exams and a research paper. The essays must be detailed. You have to really study hard for this class. Take good notes, check out the moodle site, and do some extra research. If you can, try to AVOID this professor and take it with someone else.
One of the best professors I have ever had. Because of him, I developed my writing and analytic skills: something that helped me graduate UCLA with high honors. He is not easy, but if you are willing to work, he will open your mind to things that you never knew before. Highly recommend him for those who actually want to learn.
Walsh is probably the greatest professor I've ever had. He is witty, hilarious, and just smart. He takes a boring subject like History and makes it exciting and humorous. His take and depictions on historical events are hysterical. Essay based tests and one research paper, take good notes and the book is unnecessary, be warned though, tough grader.
This teacher is one of the best teachers out there. His lectures are funny and interesting. His essay exams are hard but if you study and work hard enough you will do great! This teacher will expect you to do some critical thinking and you should be thankful that he does.
What I learned in Western Civ: The opening of the first coffee houses in England led to the Enlightenment, because people suddenly woke up and realized that the King was an idiot. Needless to say, Walsh is the best history prof EVER. Lectures are spell-binding; exams consist of fairly straight-forward in-class essays. TAKE HIM.
Prof. Walsh is fantastically knowledgeable in his subject fields. He knows everything about each course he teaches. He interjects comedy in his lecture.
Very funny and clear lecturer. Tests based on lecture so no book necessary. 4 tests, 1 paper and a little online homework but he grades super easy. Just get the timeline right and you're set! Make sure to take notes and you'll pass without a doubt.
hardest teacher by far. he went over information so fast it was hard to grasp and he grades really hard.
HORRIBLE!!!!!! Do not take this "professor" if you want to pass with a decent grade. He gives essay tests on subjects he's rarely covered. If the essay is not to his standards (word choice, punctuation, style etc.) your grade will be lowered. He will throw a fit if you step out, and he locks his door 10 min after the class starts. HORRIBLE!!!!
All he does is lectures and he goes through things too quickly, hes funny every now and then, he says he has office hours but makes it very clear that he shuts his door and has everyone lie for him to say hes not there, you cant arrive 10 min late or go to the restroom, i ended up leaving the class, i couldnt take it anymore
Took this class for winter session. so with that said, its 15 weeks of material jammed into 4 weeks. I'm no fan of accelerated learning, but it is what it is. just make sure you're present every class meeting and take good and concise notes. keep up with the assigned readings and add to the notes as you read for tests.
Not a good one. His fav grade is "D". His lectures are really boring and long. He starts speaking and never stops throughout the lecture. Do not interact with his students. Do not recommended.
Hilarious professor. Very dark humor but a fantastic instructor. Lots of funny anecdotes and is great at relating information to current events. Tests are essays, gives you four prompts and you pick at least two.
Professor Walsh was a great professor. You have to work hard in the class and read the book since his tests are essay tests. I took him for Summer session and loved it
He's a really funny guy so the lectures are entertaining and easy to listen to. The Quizzes and final are essay questions with four options you can choose from (you need to answer two). The questions are typically easy but you have to read the notes or book. Also, there are forums to answer online. Do the work and study your notes for an easy A.
Long lectures every class meeting. There's no class interaction its mainly just listening to the professor and taking note. i would recommend recording the lecture for when going through your notes and reading the chapters of the book.
Great Professor very hilarious test are about his lectures
Wasn't a fan of this professor. He's very funny and his lectures are interesting, but I had a hard time passing. I luckily got a C. There's very little class interaction, he just lectures every single class and expects you to take notes and that's literally it. The tests are difficult, they are essay tests and you get to pick 2 questions out of 4.
I took Professor Walsh over the winter and I was glad I took his class. I actually learned! Tough test, as they are in essay form. He is strict so be ready to follow the rules. If you're more than 10min late, he won't let you in class! He is an enjoyable teacher and extremely entertaining
Walsh is a very funny guy, he uses comedy in all of his lectures, like making a political joke or something. Although he is funny, he is a pretty strict and hard prof, he'll call you out if you put down your head or text, his lectures are just him talking about the lesson and giving the knowledge too you. The tests and paper are MANDATORY too pass
Really funny professor. Never thought I would say this but I managed to laugh in a history class. Lectures are well organized and professor is very knowledgeable. His tests are purely based on lectures so as long as you show up and take notes, you'll get good grades. Each exam is essay format and research paper was pretty easy but time consuming.
Really funny professor, makes the class laugh a lot. Really helpful and nice, too! No homework, just study notes or read the book if you choose to. The tests are two in class essays chosen from four prompts, but make sure you put A LOT of detail in your writing. He is a tough grader, makes u show u perfectly understand what you're talking about.
Great professor with solid teaching style. However, your grade is based on too little things. One slip up could cost you a letter grade
Walsh, Walsh, Walsh... WALSH IS THE MAN. He's so ridiculously funny. I mean he's just got the most dope, cynical personality in the world. He doesn't force you to go to class at all, but trust me you'll want to. Lord knows what will be on the test and that is always a scary thought. Take extensive notes, but trust me, you'll laugh more than cry.
If Professor Mcmillian's lectures sound like movies, Walsh's lectures are highly rated tv shows on HBO. His lectures are hilarious, intriguing, and "life changing". Read the text if you want an 'A' but you can easily get a 'B' by just studying class notes. He is a hipster from Philly and I would easily take his class again.
Interesting lectures but little to no class interaction. His tests are unnecessarily difficult that it makes you wonder why you even chose to take history in the first place. If you're an independent learner and have a genuine unwavering love for history, then this class is for you. but be prepared to study and read the textbook on your own.
Pretty easy all you have to do is show up and read. He's pretty funny too.
His tests are in essay form meaning he gives four questions and asks you to write two essays for two questions. Only gives two or three tests and you never know what to study for. Rarely any reviews before tests.. very harsh in grading the tests and the one essay due at end of semester. Anything less than a page on test gets a C in my experience
His lectures are hilarious, but I still wouldn't take him again. He lectures in class and wants you to read the rest at home. The tests are all essay format where you choose 2 of 4 to answer. It's not terrible as long as you read, but he doesn't update grades at all. The only grades we have are the tests, midterm, and the final research paper.
Walsh is extremely unfair. His lectures are funny but have little to no slides. He expects you to read the rest out of the book and teach yourself. The exams are essay format where you choose 2 out of 4 questions and he's a harsh grader. Not once has he updated our grades throughout the semester or answered any of my emails with questions.
Funny funny funny! Had a blast in class, he actually kept class interesting! Read and make sure to take notes.
I decided to take Professor Walsh after a long period of not attending school. I was looking for someone that would inspire me and make college fun again. Walsh was everything and more. His lectures are super interesting and his exams are based off of these. Pay attention to the and take key notes. I took him during Winter and it literally flew by.
Dont take him. Hes not that great at lecturing, not even that hilarious at all, not good at impersonating presidents. It gets annoying after a while. The exams are essay questions , you get to choose like 2 out of 4. Do read, of course. Pay attention to his lectures and take good notes if you want to pass.
Usually, History classes are boring like this happened, blah blah, but Walsh added humor with his lectures, which is great. Although he recommends you to read the textbook, I think its better if you listen and take detailed notes.
Extremely insensitive especially in regards to genocide. Jokes about death and murder through history. Tries to be funny but just ends up being irritating and outrageously insensitive.
he's not caring at all!!!
Amazing lectures. I always look forward to going to class.
Although class started early I would always find myself looking forward to Professor Walshs zoom lectures. Hes a great lecturer, wry, sarcastic and over all hilarious. Makes history come alive. You really have to know the material and understand it because the tests are two essay questions. 1 paragraph is never enough -Walsh. I recomend him.
Do not take him . I am A student but he gave me D on the essay question on the mid term and final with no clear criteria for grading .
Hello, my name is Patrick Brian, He turned me into a French fry, 10/10
In a word, magical. I think this terrific class is real magical. Professor Walsh is so serious but also so chill and emoji. He is very dope and cool, I think he is amazing and young. Fly high young guy.
I learned so much, like that when we talk about the environment, we are talking about earth? So magical. I think he is pretty boss and sick. he is very very drippy, and fire emoji. I am going to take this terrific class again until I am told I cannot take this terrific class any longer. Go Professor Wash and Go History!
Take it from me, Patrick Brian, this is a terrific instructor who is really magical. He inspired me to be learning. I wish he was tougher, but he is super chill and emoji. Yes, Patrick Brian here will be taking more of his classes. What an outstanding professor this guy is. Diamond Hands.
There are 2 multiple choice quizzes, a 2 essay question mid-term, 5-10 page research paper, a final exam, and online discussions. If you do the reading you'll pass, the class isn't hard. HE WANTS YOU TO PASS. If Walsh didn't teach he would definitely be doing stand-up comedy; the guy is very funny. He also has amazing taste in music. TAKE HIM!!!!
I highly recommend taking Prof. Walsh. There's no homework but there are discussion boards (due at the end), an in class midterm and final, and a final essay. He is so funny but also really knows what he is talking about. He is passionate about his lectures and I really respect that. I loved this class, will be taking him again for hist 2!
History 012-5 discussions, 6 quizzes, and a final and midterm. The class was pretty easy and straightforward, with most quiz questions being easy as long as you read the textbook. Midterm and final were essay format with 2 essays in 90 minutes so you might want to stay away if you write slow.
I wouldn't recommend this professor. However, if you choose to take his class, make sure to follow his instructions precisely and avoid situations where you need his assistance, as he never replies to emails.
took History 12 with this professor and had a very negative experience. He was often arrogant and dismissive, which made the class environment uncomfortable. His grading on essays was extremely harsh. Additionally, he was unresponsive to emails, which made it difficult to seek help or clarification. Overall, I would not recommend taking his class.
As a straight-A student, I was disappointed to receive a C in this class due to harsh grading. The professor never responded to emails, making it difficult to get needed assistance. I would not recommend this class to other students.
Argues with little girls
He dropped my friend.
This class was to easy and I had a "B" but was dropped for not completing just 1 DAM assignment!!!!!!!! I asked to complete the assignment and he said "no it's to late in the semester" even thought it was only 1 day late. he said he had to drop me for inactivity LIKE BRUH WHAT THE HECKKKKK!!!! WORSE PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEE
Dropped from his class because of “inactivity.” Makes no sense because I missed one assignment out of the hundreds he has. Not considerate whatsoever and very rude. Do not take.
DID MY MID TERM AND ALL HE SAID WAS ANSWER 2 OUT OF THE 4 QUESTIONS. AND WHEN ANSWERED HE GAVE ME HALF POINTS AND SAID " I gave you 90 minutes and you only used 25, if you don't care, why should I?" LIKE HELLO, WHO SAYS THAT, THATS NOT VERY DIVA OF HIM
don't take his class, he will drop you like what he did to my friend!
Try not to take this professor at all he is not good at teaching he expects you to learn from a book without teaching or guidance Doesn't answer emails for questions/anything most of the time if he answers you question he doesn't even have an answer for it. you want to get credits for this class my advice is to not even take his class it was awful.
Professor Walsh is a hilarious lecturer who makes history engaging. The workload is manageable if you do the readings. unstuck AI was great for exam prep.
He is so yellow 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
Oh, uh, where do I even... wait, what was I... oh right! This history teacher, um, amazing! So... he talks about, um, history... yeah! I think it was history, right? Everything is, like, so interesting. He makes things so clear... wait, I just remembered—he knows all the dates! So many dates! Oh! And the stories! I think there was one about...
Professor Walsh is a great. His lectures bring history to life through a balanced and informed perspective. I was surprised how unbiased his lectures are- other professors I've had can't help but slap on there little twist. Walsh is also low key funny- not sure if he even knows. Definitely recommend gonna take him in history12 next semester.
I Need HIM🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Miss one assignment and you get kicked out the class. No leniency and no leeway for your assignments. He has it in a prerequisite format so if you miss one assignment then all the other assignments get locked and good luck trying to convince him to unlock it for you. He doesn't care about his students so do not take if you don't want to get dropped
He's not very lenient when it comes to outside circumstances, such as personal issues or emergencies. Don't ask for an extension; he'll never give it to you. Grades are really harsh for little issues. Overall I'm not taking him again lol
Attempts to make unfunny jokes that don't land. provides NO real content or coursework, just long tangents, and is not lenient in any capacity towards the syllabus. He should've attempted stand-up and not teaching because this man cannot have a meaningful lecture at all...
Outright horrid professor, makes all of his information almost inaccessible because he places it in 45-minute tangents, and then when you miss the information in said infallibly trash YouTube video, he doesn't do anything to accommodate!!! Unclear syllabus, showed up late the first day, grades off little assignments, bad lectures. Avoid if possible
I regret taking him more than I regret going back to my ex.
He makes lectures fun. Took for summer. Discussion and quiz due every end of the week, midterm and final exams too. Lots of reading, so it takes a day to get through the content. Take notes for essays. Not an AI fan and uses a detector to look at your essays -- so be careful AI users or you get a 0 instantly.
Think twice about taking this class. He gives a lot of homework and tons of reading. He is a tough grader too even when you think you've done good…he doesn't give detailed information on what needs to be done. Be ready to listen to long lectures as well. They're all 30 mins-1 hr long and sometimes more than one video. I don't recommend this class.
He does provide all the resources for you to succeed, but its so much work. He's not really that involved and whether or not you pass his class is really on you. His lectures are pretty entertaining but his midterm and final are really hard and you'll need to really study for it. Don't even try using AI with this guy. Overall, good class but hard.
