Dr. Peterson is a fantastic teacher. He truly, truly cares about his students and is passionate about what he teaches. His quizzes are okay if you read, but he provides a study guide for exams which make it very easy to do well in his class. I didn't put much studying in at all, and I did well. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Peterson was a great teacher! I only wish I had been more prepared for his classes so I could appreciate them more. His quizzes are VERY challenging if you don't read thoroughly every night. The mid-term and final were easy because of the detailed study guides. If you take him be ready to learn an abundance! Definitely recommend!
Cares about every one of his students - do not take his class if you want a professor who won't know your name! Has a wealth of knowledge about the Old Testament to share. His enthusiastic teaching style really made the OT come alive to me in new ways. Gives clear guidelines for assignments and study guides for exams. No excuse not to get an A.
Dr. Peterson is the most thorough professor I've ever had. While reading the OT survey book is necessary for quizzes, and helpful for exams, his lectures are so in depth that you can do fine.
Dr. Peterson is the most thorough professor I've ever had. While reading the OT Survey book is necessary for quizzes and helpful for exams, his lectures are so in depth that you can function in the case you aren't able to finish the reading. He is incredibly intelligent and very bright lecturer. Will learn your name and check on you.
He tries too hard to be funny when he's really not. None of his lectures made any sense and he usually ended up sounding highly unintelligent. Some people simply shouldn't be teachers and he is definitely one of them.
Dr. Peterson is an incredible professor! He is incredibly intelligent, and he is extremely thorough. He is very willing to help his students succeed. He is passionate about the subject and that definitely come through in his teaching. The quizzes aren't super easy but if you do the reading, you'll survive. He's much better than some of the others.
Peterson is a great teacher! He uses a lot of videos and pictures to make his points across. He genuinely cares about his students. Attend all of his classes and get good grades on your quizzes so you can exempt the final. He makes learning about the old testament so fun and tells it to us as stories. He also shows us how we can learn from the OT
Dr. Peterson was one of the best professors I had during my freshman year. He has very easy to understand and interesting powerpoints and usually prints off the notes for students. His quizzes require some reading but he usually offers extra credit. He also provides a study guide for his exams and stays late to go over the guide before the test.
Take Dr. Peterson! He is very knowledgeable and has a real passion for the subject matter. While I admit, I sometimes zoned out during lectures, I still left knowing way more than when I started. He is a wonderful teacher and mentor and is so available to his students. Also, he learns everyones names, which I totally love. Take him if you can!
Dr. Peterson's class was super enjoyable! I felt like I actually learned a lot in his class. Just make sure you attend, turn things in on time, and read for the quizzes! You just might be exempt from taking the final. :)
I knew very little about this class upon taking it. Dr. Peterson was very helpful and understanding with the terms he used in class. Detailed, but not over detailed. I highly recommend taking him! Make sure you read the text and study for the exams. Also, got to every class and try to be late or leave early! If you need to talk to him before hand!
Dr Peterson is a great man who feels a strong sense of calling associated with teacher the college generation. That being said, he is ultra conservative and at times this shows when he does not expose students to different opinions. If he does mention liberal views, it is always in the context of a conservative reaction to them.
Dr. Peterson is awesome. I wish I could take all my religion classes with him. He's brilliant and kind and has lame humor that I can appreciate. His class requires work but its nothing average students can't handle.
Dr. Peterson is a very humble professor and his class was not very hard. The only challenge was creating a timeline of the OT and the Ancient Near East, but it was worth knowing and understanding.
Dr. Peterson was fantastic. He is very knowledgable about the subject and is passionate about his students. He is by far one of the best profs I've had at Lee.
Dr. Peterson is a wonderful professor. I had him for Old Testament Survey my first semester at Lee. The class is a bit time consuming because of the reading and the different papers due, but they are worth it! Dr. Peterson is more than willing to answer any questions in class or during his office hours. I highly recommend him to everyone!
Dr. Peterson is by far one of the best professors! I had thought this class (Message of the Old Testament) would be very boring-Very wrong! Peterson makes the material easy to understand and far more interesting than you would expect. He adds some comedic relief &makes good use of videos etc for elaboration. HIGHLY recommend taking him if possible.
I am reading the comments below and wondering if we are even talking about the same guy.... Peterson is the most arrogant and unhelpful professor I have ever had. I could not tell you one thing I learned in his class. I will never take a course with him again. I am an A student and struggled to keep a C average in this class. Very dissapointed
Dr. Peterson is wonderful! He gave me a completely new (and better) perspective of the Old Testament and taught me more about the bible itself and its stories than I have learned by going to church my whole life. He is very interesting and uses video clips to keep students engaged. He teaches the history of the OT with application as well. GREAT!
Great lectures and multiple note handouts
Dr. Peterson restores my faith in humanity.
Dr. Peterson clearly knows what he is talking about, and that is one reason why I liked him so much. He has been to Israel and seen many of the places from the Old Testament. He provides notes for every lesson, so you never have to pull out paper. Also, there are 15 quizzes total in the class, but 12 are take home with easily found answers.
LOVED Dr. Peterson. Super engaging and knowledgable. He doesn't spoon-feed you, but if you put in some effort, you'll probably get an A. It's very apparent that he cares about his students, and is passionate about the content he teaches. Wish I could take his class again.
Dr. Peterson is an excellent professor. He knows what he is talking about and his lectures are very easy to understand. He definitely cares about his students and he wants to get to know you. Ask questions in class also! He really likes a debate or discussion. i would take his class again great professor and great class.
I took his old testament class, and while I got a decent grade, I had to work VERY hard for it. He was incredibly rude and arrogant to myself and many of my friends when we tried to talk to him in his office. He acted very entitled towards us, and was not very understanding about issues we had
Excellent professor
This guy is seriously amazing. He shares his heart with his students and it's beautiful. 2/3rd's of his quizzes are take home, and if you have an A+ (93 and above) and perfect attendance you will be exempt from his final exam and only have to take the mid term exam. His lectures are very interesting... only 2 or 3 of them are long winded.
Dr. Peterson is a good professor. His Old Testament class isn't too difficult. Sometimes the take home quizzes made things almost TOO easy, because it discouraged us students from actually feeling the need to do the reading. He shows videos in class and has discussions to keep things interesting. Overall, you'll learn a lot in this class.
Dr. P is one of the best teachers and men at Lee. He makes all the material personal, relatable, factually reliable, faith-based and interesting. He's down to Earth and a great friend to have if you get to know him outside of class. You will laugh and cry in class. He's proud of his Pentecostal heritage, and it shows that he lives what he teaches.
Dr. Peterson is an amazing professor. He's fair in his grading and whatever effort you put into his class is equal to the grade you get. His interesting, just engaging, and laid back. If you're looking for a free ride don't take him. But if you're looking for a class to hold you're interest Peterson is the best.
He's a great professor although he can be a little haughty and apathetic so it can be a little off-putting. However, I love the amount of knowledge he had and how he really makes you work for the grade (don't expect much leniency). I had to take OT 2x because of health issues, and I personally preferred the other professor I had.
I do not rate professors but I chose to rate Dr. Peterson because he is a Godly man who is a great professor. If there are poor ratings of him it is probably because the student just wanted an easy A and Peterson's classes are not that way, you have to actually learn. Probably the most respected man in the SOR because of his conservative stances.
Quality professor! He seems really hard but his exams aren't bad at all if you study. He's funny and his lectures are informative and engaging. 10/10 would recommend on Amazon
One of the best professors i've had, is extremely knowledgeable in his field and is very fair and relatively easy. However he's an absolutely garbage person tho lmao still calls homosexuality an abomination like chill bruh, this ain't the fkn 1900's hot damn
Dr. Peterson is a tough professor. I am an A student and I struggled. He is arrogant and it is hard to hold a conversation with him. I will never take any of his classes again.
Dr. Peterson was really nice and I enjoyed his class, but when it came to the midterm and final, it was so difficult to process everything that we needed to know. He gives us the study guides but they're so jam packed with information, it's impossible. He gives take home quizzes so that boosts your grade, but study hard for those tests.
At first, I thought the class was really difficult and the professor intimidating- I thought I was going to fail! Dr. Peterson ended up being one of the coolest and most caring and understanding professors! You work hard, but the work isn't too difficult! He also provides lots of resources to better understand the material and to study.
This guy knows what he's talking about. If you listen and take notes during the lectures and study over his handouts, you'll be fine. He has a lot of knowledge that shouldn't be squandered or ignored. Try to truly invest in this class and take in what he says. He will let you know what he believes but will not force anything at all Highly Recommend
He's an amazing man who cares about his students. He gives you study guides and prepares you well for each test. If you go to class he tells you everything that is going to be on each test/quiz so just take good notes and pay attention to what he says is important.
Dr. Peterson is a good teacher. He is passionate about his teaching and seems to care about his students. The only complaint I have is that the readings and quizzes don't always line up with the lectures. Other than that, if you listen in class and study the study guide, the class is an easy A.
Rich content gave me a better appreciation for the OT, but his powerpoints and pop culture references are very dated. Witty humor, super conservative, funny Canadian accent. Try to follow the strict attendance policy - pays off for finals exemption. Roughly half the quizzes are take home. Do the reading, buy the yellow booklet offered on first day.
If you care about the subject, he will make it come alive. Excellent speaker - you won't want to miss a single word. He is a tough grader though, and he expects quality work, but he cares a lot about individual students and wants to see you succeed.
Dr. Peterson is a very caring man who is passionate about what he does. He makes you work hard for your grades, but it's worth it, especially because he has an exemption policy for the final. He is very kind and approachable if you have concerns about your grade. Pay attention in class & you'll do well!
Dr. Peterson is passionate about the Old Testament. He is super smart and teaches from this level but is able to clarify without belittling the class. His knowledge of all the texts and the languages brings life to the material and makes class interesting.
Taking Old Testament from Dr. Peterson was a choice that I am thankful for making. He gives lengthy lectures, and lots of reading is required. However, I am pleased with his method of teaching. He is accessible both in and out of class, and he ensures that the class understands a concept before moving on. Would definitely take a class of his again!
I absolutely love Dr. Peterson and his class. He makes Old Testament so interested. He is so intelligent, and he truly cares about his students. The class is tough, and it is accompanied by a good amount of work. However, I learned more than I could imagine in his class. You can get exempt for the final, but you have to work hard to get exempt.
I was so intimidated by professor Peterson the first day of class. But he is so genuine and has such a huge love for the Bible. Don't skip class and follow his instructions to get out of taking the final. He is great and I learned a lot from him.
Intelligent, but can be unfair.
Good Prof. He is intelligent, thoughtful, inspirational, and always starts class with a devotion or prayer. You can tell how much he loves God and his students. There are extra credit chances and he allows students to rework projects if they did not do well. You can even be exempt from the final for good work/attendance!
Dr. Peterson isn't bad considering Old Testament is mandatory. It's hard to understand him sometimes because he expects you to know more about the Bible than most people do. You HAVE to read the textbook that HE wrote (which i find highly conceited) or you wont pass. Go to all the lectures and you could be able to skip the final.
Explains the Bible in a great way. He makes it personal.
If you read the assigned reading everythings easier! He marks tough but he also gives a rubric to show all the stuff hes looking for.
Wow, I loved every single second of this class! Dr. Peterson truly cares about his students, and his lectures are wonderful to listen to! GO. TO. CLASS. If you have perfect attendance and an A average, you can get exempted from the final! Prepare to work and read, but I couldnt recommend a better professor to take Old Testament with.
Dr. Peterson is an amazing professor who never failed to make learning about the Old Testament very fun and interesting. He genuinely cares about the next generation of pastors and missionaries.
Dr. Peterson's class was very challenging, but I have never learned more in a class. He cares very deeply about Christ, his family, and his students. He does several quizzes that are a little challenging and his tests do not repeat quiz questions. That's hard, but he does offer many extra credit opportunities and an opportunity to exempt the final
In my opinion, Dr. Peterson is one of (if not THE) best professor in the Lee University School of Religion. He's a true man of God who teaches from a real Pentecostal point of view. I wish he taught more classes!
Dr. Peterson's lectures were always very informative and interesting. He wrote the textbook himself and uses it often since there are several quizzes throughout the semester. He does have an attendance policy, but if you have perfect attendance you can be exempt from the final exam if you fulfill the other requirements.
exam exemptions are possible. criteria for this is in the syllabus. old testament is his THING. really knows what hes talking about. not too hard if you show up to class.
This class is so interesting, and he or his TA are always willing to help in any way they can. There's a bunch of reading quizzes from the book, but they are not bad at all!! I learned so much in this class, I absolutely loved it! He is exceptional!
As long as you do the readings, and work hard for the quizzes youll do fine. Its a lot of work but in the long run it pays off.
Dr. Peterson is a great professor. He is extremely knowledgable and passionate about the Bible. He is hilarious and engaging in his lectures. The quizzes are reasonable as long as you do the reading. The only annoying thing is his final exam exemption policy. You can have 0 absences and there are several other requirements you must meet.
Dr. Peterson is an excellent professor -- the best I've had at Lee so far. He gives the appropriate amount of reading for the subject you are studying. If it's a large subject, expect a lot of reading. His test and quiz's are thorough and cover what you learned (nothing more than that, however, do understand they cover *what you learned*).
One of the best teacher Ive ever had! Keeps your attention and he really knows what hes talking about and knows how to explain it!
Great inspiring professor, I always recommend to my friends. He has 3 PHDs and knows the material. Also, he wrote some of the textbook for the class.
Dr. Peterson is very passionate about what he teaches and he is a really nice professor. However, he does give a lot of quizzes. If you do well on the quizzes and maintain an A with no absences, you can exempt the final. This is really hard to do, but it is not impossible to achieve.
Lectures are mandatory. paying attention isn't. Take-home quizzes and a few in-class quizzes. can get exempt from the final. Beware of the end semester exercise. it is a pop quiz usually the second to last day of class. Offers extra credit. There is a project of a paper or timeline. Don't be on your phone during class. Very interactive
Dr. Peterson is a great guy, his class is very enjoyable. Attendance is mandatory as he has a very strict attendance policy. As long as you study and pay attention in class the quizzes will be easy. His lectures are very interesting and you can tell that he knows what he is talking about.
There are lots of quizzes, but I never really had a huge problem with them. There is also a way you can exempt the final, which is always a great option.
Dr. Peterson is very intelligent professor and had his class been set up differently, I might have enjoyed it. He didn't stray from the course schedule even when we got behind so we would constantly be taking quizzes on multiple books at a time that he hadn't lectured on yet. He also expects you to know more about OT coming in than most people do.
I was hesitant about this class at first. However, I was relieved as the course went on. Dr. Peterson does make you work for your grade but an A is reasonably achievable. With that said, I felt as though my efforts were rewarded. He responds to emails very quickly and is very approachable. Even if you disagree with him he is very respectable.
Good professor overall, very lecture heavy and skill is dependent on readings outside of class. Frequent quizzes and a few tests were the main criteria for grading other than one larger project, also plenty of extra credit opportunities. It can become a VERY fast-paced class so be ready to keep up.
Dr. Peterson is extremely knowledgeable in this course. However, sometimes I felt as if he were talking so advance that I didnt even know what was going on. Near the end of the semester, there will be lots of quizzes and it feels kinda scattered. It is almost impossible to be exempt from final. (I was literally .4 points away from being exempt)
I loved this class. Just do your work (don't procrastinate and you'll do better than me). Loves what he teaches and gave me a new love for the Old Testament.
I took this class freshman year. He knows his stuff and it is an easy A if you do the work, but beware - he is overly confident and does not care for freshmen. I am sure one of his higher level classes would be interesting and enjoyable. It's a gen-ed, and it is what it is.
Truly exhilarating studying the OT with Dr. Peterson! Even after all his research, the guy still has childlike faith! You'll leave class equipped with exciting, biblical facts and a greater love for the Lord. Make sure to read/attend/study! Dr. Peterson may seem intimidating, but he's pretty down to earth, and you'll know why if you take his class!
Quizzes/textbook readings after every class. His exams are the hardest things I've ever done, usually around 85 questions. I haven't met anyone who has passed his class with an A and it's nearly impossible to get final exempt. Very lecture heavy meaning literally all he does is talk, so take notes from day 1. The midterm project is graded so hard.
Excellent teacher and very professional.
It is an intensive lecture class; however, Dr. Peterson does a phenomenal job keeping things interesting for us students. Note taking isnt required as long as you engage in active listening. There are around 12 quizes with the overwhelming majority being open book. For exams, I found the best way to prepare is by utilizing Kahoot.
This was my favorite class Ive had. I love this class Dr Peterson is very knowledgeable and he has so much to add that makes it interesting. He gives you chances for extra credit and there are many open note quizzes, so making a good grade is not hard. Take this class with him!! Ive had a much easier time than most of my friends with other profs.
Dr. Peterson is a great professor. There are about 12 quizzes and you take them all on your own, some of them are open book. So it is very easy to maintain a good grade. Start the project as soon as you can because that's a big part of your grade. He also puts the study guide for the mid-term and final up at the beginning of the courses.
Peterson is a caring prof. that genuinely wants to help his students. He's willing to answer any questions you ask. His lectures can be slow, but he keeps it engaging. Be sure to do the reading, it is easy to get behind (especially with the midterm project). Show up to class, do your work, and (at least some) of your reading and you'll be fine.
Peterson expects you to have an expert level of knowledge in a freshman level class and grades you accordingly. Hes also one of the most self important professors Ive ever had. He cares more about hearing himself speak than he does his students. I would highly recommend taking any other professor.
Midterms and finals were intense! I showed up to every class and studied but still didn't get exempt from exams. Getting exempt seems possible, but I know some who met all criteria and still didn't get exempt. Peterson is very lecture intense. Try to get Justin Walker, I've heard great things! You will have to try to pass this class, not an easy A!
Peterson is a nice guy and VERY INTELLIGENT. A bit outdated on his pop culture references in powerpoints lol. Must read txtbook. Attending class is mandatory but listening is hard due to the complexity of his lectures and he talks for 50 minutes straight. Cell phone use half attendance credit for the day. Can be exempt from final, strict criteria
You can pass Peterson's class with an A if you put in the time to study. He gives multiple chances for extra credit. Your grade comes from 10 quizzes, a project, and 2 exams (1 if you exempt the final.) Finals are hard to exempt but are possible. His class is very fast paced and hard to follow. Study the textbook, yellow study booklet, and quizlet!
The class is easy if you use the textbook and go to class. The lectures are interesting however the quizzes (some are open note) are off of the textbook. There is a project that is not particularly hard it is just time consuming so start on it early! Definitely go to the exam reviews he does, he gives some of the answers and will answer questions.
dont take him. he docks your grade out of no where and quizzes on abstract things that arent relevant. if you do the summary paper make sure its exactly like the example or hell give you a horrible grade. I looked here before taking him and he had good ratings - dont fall for it. his class sucks.
He goes over the material for the class decently but lectures can be slow. He has very conservative values + makes you read his book for the class. The tests aren't about message of the Bible, but passages and dates to memorize. My grade dropped from A- to B+ because I used my phone in class. Loves to hear himself talk.
Honestly, you can get an A in Peterson's if you pay attention and use the study guides. However, I was disappointed because his lectures weren't interesting or inspiring. I was really hoping to have a great OT class. If you can take someone else I would do that.
It is not difficult to get an A in his class, but it is hard to pay attention especially if you have a hard time listening for 50 minutes straight. He is very knowledgeable but it is a lot to take in, especially if you do not have a lot of prior knowledge about the old testament.
Be prepared to take in a lot of information. He's a HARD grader on papers, so triple-check everything. Study for quizzes on Quizlet. Midterm/finals are difficult but if you addended class and read VWS, you'll do fine. He's not as scary as he looks, go talk to him if you are having issues, he's happy to help. Looking forward to taking him again.
I was nervous about taking his class but he ended up being great! Do the readings and show up to class or you will not pass! It is only 2 exams (1 exam if you get exempt from the final). Show up to class and do your work and you will be fine!
Just boring honestly, otherwise great. Easy class just hard to sit through. Also he doesn't count extra credit towards an exemption.
Dr. Peterson is a great professor! I took him for OT and liked that he stressed geography, culture, and history instead of random Bible stories that most of us have already heard since childhood. It was nice to have that knowledge to help me actually understand the message of the OT and the stories we all love.
very lecture heavy, TRIPLE CHECK grammar on papers
I loved taking this class with Peterson; he is a great lecturer, and his intelligence comes through. He does express his opinions very strongly, but I have no issue with that. The class was not hard at all; just pay attention in class and do the readings.
I would not suggest Peterson. He provides too many unnecessary details which made his lectures difficult to follow and was constantly behind on the course schedule. This resulted in him cramming information in the lectures right before the midterm and final. Also, the demeaning manner in which he spoke to students did not sit well with me.
I would take any other professor if you can. do the timeline and hmu i'll send you mine. never write a paper for him bc he literally wrote the textbook. my friends and i went to the ta's house for help and he asked us if we were christians. this is a christian school. if you paid attention in sunday school you'll probably make an a.
He is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the bible. I enjoyed his class be aware he does require a lot from you, it is possible to do well you just need to devote time and thoroughly read the instructions. He clearly wants his students to succeed.
Dr. Peterson is a great professor. I really enjoyed his class. He is very intelligent, knowledgeable, and knows a lot about what he teaches. He cares about students and wants to help. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Very interesting content.
I really liked his class! The only issue I had was when I had to be excused from ONE class the entire semester for an ensemble trip and he began speaking as if ensembles and the music program were an inconvenience, when my major was music. Other than that, he was great, and if you attend every class you may not have to take the final.
Wouldn't take him again!
His lectures can be boring and you have to buy your notes from him. Go to the review sessions He gave out almost all the answers to the exam. Do the book instead of the timeline, He grades heavier on the timeline. He is very opinionated and says questionable things during lectures. Show up to every class and you get exempt from the final exam.
Dr. Peterson was a very average teacher. His projects were very difficult, and I didn't really learn anything from them. I never really understood his lectures and had to figure out a lot of my own. His quizzes were easy though.
Dr. Peterson's class covers a lot of content, but he's knowledgeable and wants students to succeed. Just stay engaged, do the readings, and use tools like unstuck study to help with study prep. Midterms and finals are intense, but manageable with the right approach.
Peterson is a nice guy, however taking the class Tuesday/Thursday is brutal. The lectures can put you to sleep, and you almost need to buy his book to keep up. Even the TA commented on the exam being difficult for him. Info for tests is bulk memorization, and he often expects you know more than an average freshman You must be very self motivated
