Don't take this course if you plan on not watching lecture and instead purchasing smokin' notes...there are no smokin' notes! I was lazy with the class, and thus I will probably not get an A, but if you watch lecture you should easily obtain an A. There are 3 assignments, not too bad though.

Some of the lectures were extremely long when it could have been a whole lot shorter. A little boring but should be an easy class.
learned a lot of good stuff but as far as the papers and tests are concerned, it was a waste of time.
Get ready for a good grade and an easy class! You should watch lectures, although you are not tested on all of them! Reading the book, watching lectures, and doing a few EXTREMELY easy assignments will result in an A! This semester (fall) 77.4% of students ended up with an A or a B.
Dr. Ray has zero teaching experience, and therefore the class is not presented or taught very well. The tests are ABSOLUTELY AND COMPLETELY useless and a pain. The first two tests cover over 250 pages of useless memorization. The assignments are a pain, and really do not help. Study book and defineteyl get A or B. Class was a pain, not expected
Dr. Ray has NO teaching experience and it shows! He talks all the time about being a "good fit" with your career, maybe he should rethink HIS career. I have a high A and I still think this class is a joke. Lectures taped over a year ago, MANY errors in spelling and inconsistencies with lectures/online material, busy work. EASY but a waste of time.
Dr. Ray's career development class, while easy, is practically valueless given its poor design. To echo a previous review, Dr. Ray is not a teacher -and it shows. The tests quiz you on unrelated minutiae. It seems like the class is an excuse to pad Ray's resume, as most of the lectures were filmed months ago and disconnect noticeably. Unfortunate..
Extremely easy, and fairly useful class. Main qualms: Classes filmed WAY in advance, assignment 2 is tedious, tests require a lot of memorization.
The assignments r time consuming 1 u r supposed to do like 10 occupational interviews thats like 30 pages of work. Its easy but it takes a long time. The book is SO boring. The test are super easy but u have to read the book which is torcher, the lectures just review the book but 1 test i didnt read n i got a 72. thers 1 online exam thats an easy A
I was really looking forward to this class, unfortunately it was a total waste of time. There was NOTHING practical until the third unit. Textbook is boring as hell, nothing but straight memorization for the tests. Dr. Ray is a little stuck on himself (you'll learn ALL about his accomplishments). I was fortunate to get a decent TA.
Academic Advisor said it would be an easy A... busted my behind for a B. Very time consuming, boring assignments. The layout he teaches for the resume and cover letter for the final project was WRONG. CRC tore mine apart after... tedious, useless dribble. have fun
I don't think this class should be grouped into business as if it's specific to this major. It probably doesn't get many of the students who probably could use it for this reason. If you don't have interview skills, don't know how to write a resume, or aren't sure of your career - take it. Don't expect it to be easy, though. Very time consuming.
this class was a waste of time! I thought it would be helpful but it was merely time consuming and the lectures were pointless. Tests mainly on memorization and useless facts, even watching lectures and reading I managed to only pull a B. Felt more like a reason for Dr. Ray to sit infront of the camera and brag about himself.
This class is straight up memorization. He talks about himself the whole time. His resume reads like a book...just wait you will see it. Don't take this class if you have trouble reading the textbook, he will ask you names from the examples on the test.
What are these people talking about? This class is an easy A. I never watched one lecture. Just read the entire book (boring but easy) and you will get atleast a B on the test. Autobiography, interviews, and Resumes are explained well. Not a hard class just put in some effort.
this class is irritating. The assignments are really easy but sliightly pointless. Just make sure you use the right format on webct. The lectures are never the whole 2 hourse. If they are then they're not on the test. Dr. Ray talks about himself ALOT but thats not on the test so just tune it out. Tests ask very specfic questions.
i like that course. I thought it was helpful.
This class was completely boring and completely useless. A lot of psycho babble in a text written by 4 academics from FSU, then a lot of memorization on stuff like the CASAVE cycle that is completely unimportant in the real world. My only advice is memorize the book. Half of the tests come directly out of the book.
Lectures are very boring, but the class is easy.. I don't know what these people are talking about.. I did all of the assignments the day they were due, pretty much made all of them up, and got 100% on all of them! Class is very easy just very boring.. must read the book and sorta watch lectures..
This class is utterly useless and a waste of time. Requires a lot of effort into the material. His lectures are boring and brags about himself a lot. Do not take this class if you expect it to be a breeze. Again totally useless course and mostly a memorization course. Must read textbook in order to pass his test.
A single poster wrote: "Requires a lot of effort into the material." "Do not take this class if you expect it to be a breeze." "Must read textbook in order to pass his test." I'm sure that was a nightmare for a slacker like you. Spend less time whining and more time studying and you might realize what a great teacher Dr. Ray is (doubt it though)
It was a good subject... I guess, the tests were utterly ridiculous though, it is not as easy as the name may imply.
Terrible class, you basically have to memorize the textbook, and thats not just the concepts, but details. Considering each chapter has about 60 names, it sucks. My friends and I struggled through the class to earn Bs. I also had a very tough TA, would grade my paper hard.
This class is very difficult. The tests do not test your understanding of the material but rather test minor details (e.g. "which of these words were not included on the list of 10 career moves"). The assignments are generally helpful but are long and don't make up for poor grades on the test. A in ECP and a B in this, somethings wrong!
I have no clue why this class is a junior year class in the online business program, where most students are already mid-career and in their 30s. The final assignment is to write a resume!! Tests are on generally useless material such as "who authored this theory?" no opportunity for appeals, no exam review, terrible class as a whole
The only positive reviews on this page are probably Ray himself. The class is not only useless, but requires a surprisingly high level of rote memorization. Avoid if you're looking for a course to further your education. Take this if you enjoy memorizing useless facts and spitting them out on exams.
HORRIBLE. Brian Ray reads directly from slides with no substantial commentary. Tests are on random facts. Took it at the recommendation of a counselor & realized later that they promote the class to everyone. Brian Ray created this class to weasel his way into being a professor. This class is part of the reason UF can't be a top school.
I registered for this class thinking it would be an easy elective and an easy A. I got an A alright, but easy it was NOT. Required assignments were time intensive, exams were not too bad. Be ready to memorize the text book. I was determined to get something out of the class because of all the work I had put into it, and I did.
The class requires a lot of reading however the assignments are quite useful. You learn a lot of skills that will help you in the real world but you have to put forth the effort to see the results. By no means an easy A but it is a class that is worth taking.
Great class and great teacher! It is extremely useful but does require effort. The assignments really help prepare you for the job search and I would recommend this class to anyone.
Dr. Ray is passionate about the success of his students and will reach out to anyone to provide career management advice. As dean of the school of business, he makes it a goal to improve the professional development skill sets for his students. You have to study for his tests, but everything you learn for them can be applied to the real world.
The class is not an easy A, but you will learn applicable and useful tools for your job search. Helped me getting an internship. Despite the online lectures, the class is personalized and assignments receive individualized feedback. Dr. Ray and the TA's really care about helping. Take if you need some help picking your career and finding a job.
I took this course in 2005 and found it to be very useful. During the progression of my career, I have applied many of the tools learned during this course.
This has been the most practical and valuable class I have taken in my college career. Every college freshman should be required to take this course, as I believe it would help a lot of students figure out what direction they want their career to take. The class has a lot of information that can be applied to the the "real world".
This is a an extremely useful class because it assists you with resume writing, interview topics, and networking tips. The professor and TA's are great with meeting with you one on one to provide specific feedback or concerns that you may have.
GEB 3035 is an absolutely amazing class - I owe a great deal of my success in finding an internship with a Fortune 500 company to this class!! The course helped with building my career successfully, creating a great resume, and properly communicating your ideas during interviews. TAKE THIS CLASS - you will be very happy that you did!
GEB3035 is a very helpful class for those who have NO CLUE about internships, jobs, resumes, inverviews, etc. It helped me SO much with what to do. If you just read the book, the class is simple and helpful. Very low maintenance, just read right before the exam. Dr. Ray is a great professor and is always willing to help. Take it junior year!!!
Great class for anyone not sure of what they want to do after graduation, recommend to younger students, fun, simple assignments, tests based off lectures (slides available online) and text. The text is entertaining and informative, make sure you read all of it. Ray is an inspirational guy and grade is dependent on TA/career coach
This is a good class for someone who has never had a job before and still lives at home...However, for the rest of us who have been working since High School, the "useful" info is stuff we've already heard before. Tests are mere memoriziation of random facts, and not really about concepts discussed. If I didn't have to take this class, I wouldn't.
Projects are pretty easy but time consuming. there are 4, autobiography, career analysis report, doing a resume &cover letter, and interviewing 5 people from careers your interested in. Two exams that are easy as long as you watch lectures. If you don't get an A it cause you didn't try.
Took this class thinking it would be a relatively easy elective, seen as it is taught by two guidance counselors. Awful tests and lots of lengthy assignments. They try and justify the difficulty of the class to other 3000 level business classes, but there is just too little substance for how hard and specific the tests are. Really time consuming
Oh my goodness the lectures are entirely TOO long. i just read the book and took notes and got a 90 on the first (hardest) exam. For the outside book i watched the lecture.. 3 lectures that are at least 30+ minutes long 2 times a week. The content is kinda interesting but the expectation of watching these long lectures kill the experience for me...
Nice guy, but very unclear on assignment and exam expectations.
Not an easy elective. There is weekly assignments. Long lectures. Need the book. Not too bad, but was more work than intended. Very tough grader.
Dr. Ray is a really great professor. He is inspirational and very passionate about what he teaches. He is a great professor and very understanding. This course was interesting but there are 5 required textbooks and lectures are quite long. Honestly, I bought the books but never read them because Dr. Ray's lectures cover the material just fine.
Dr. Ray was one of the best teachers in the business school. His class went threw different ethical dilemmas you might face in the work force and how to go about them. He is very inspirational and impactful when it comes to his teaching. A class that I would recommend and it's not that hard to get an A in either.
I feel like this class tries too hard to earn its 3000-level. There are only two exams, which is fine except that you never really get to learn how he and Guffin test. Lectures are crazy long, but most of the exam questions come from the books and articles. The papers probably saved my grade; they make up most of the points in this class.
Lots of real world benefit in taking this class, so when you finish you'll have an updated resume, linkedin page, etc. Exams are not difficult but since there's only two and since they cover a lot of content make sure to do all of the assignments. Score well on the assignments and you'll be fine.
I loved taking this class! When I saw it is an easy A, I mean it. I did like 1/5 of the readings. He gave one extra credit assignment but honestly there wasn't a criteria for it. You literally just had to do the assignment and answer the questions he wants you to include in it. 4 easy quizzes. Downloaded pdfs for the longer readings to use on quiz.
I have a love-hate relationship with GEB3035. Dr. Ray is an amazing professor and spent the time speaking with me on the phone about my career, which I really appreciate. The exams are, for some reason, extremely difficult for me. For most assignments, he doesn't provide a rubric so that's kind of annoying. Overall, the course was useful though.
Dr. Ray is a great professor. This class should be an easy A, as long as you do all of the assignments (there were only five assignments, some lengthy, plus two tests). Beyond the grade this is the course that I have gotten the most out of in my entire time at UF. The reading material is very inspirational and helpful.
there are very few lengthy assignments that you receive great feedback on from your "career coach", meet the requirements and you should get an A on them. Two books were required but I wouldn't say they were necessary as you can look up info on them. Overall, great professor and helpful class!
Taking his class was very beneficial to me as well as eye-opening, I was able to learn how to solve real-life practical issues in business. This class is actually something that can be applied in the real world and it teaches you how to navigate tough situations in the industry. His lectures were always inspiring, keep an eye out for his quotes.
This is my second course with Dr. Ray and he is phenomenal! I could not recommend him more. If you are looking to get motivated to learn new things and grow as an individual, Dr. Ray can help you! Watch all his lectures and take notes! Never opened the assigned books and got no lower than 90% on tests solely studying the notes from the lectures.
Dr. Ray is amazing. He genuinely cares about students. You don't need the book if you watch the lectures because he goes over everything you need to know. Assignments are not difficult, and there 2 exams which are easy if you watched the lectures/read the assigned articles. Dr. Ray will take the time to speak to you about your career & advise you!
One of the only professors I have ever had that truly cares about your success. Email him, talk to him in person, he's there to help you succeed. Absolutely a positive force in this universe. Class was organized, easy, yet intellectually stimulating. I learned to be a better person and student here.
Dr. Ray made going to class fun and enjoyable. His passion for the topic showed through in the lectures and was contagious throughout the classroom. Favorite teacher at UF so far.
Five assignments and two exams. He is a very generous grader on the assignments. Some say the tests were easy, but I never received higher than a B. Be sure to read the articles because they are definitely on the exam. I never read the book, so maybe that is why I didn't do well on the exams. Overall, he is a good professor that cares.
Dr. Ray does a great job preparing you for the exams and makes the class a fairly easy A. There are a couple big writing/research projects but the grading and extra credit make it worth the effort. There is a good amount of reading throughout the course but the exams are not overly difficult. Do the extra credit and reading and you should get an A.
Dr. Ray is one of the best professors I've ever had. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Instead of textbooks, you'll read about 5 books that are actually really great reads. Don't procrastinate on finding your leaders to interview as there's an opportunity to earn extra credit if you do more than the required amount.
I would recommend Dr. Ray and GEB3017 to anyone. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and the assignments were easy to pace out and complete. He explains the books very well and leaves you with a great understanding of what a leader should be. If you can, TAKE THIS CLASS!
Great class with real world practicality. There is a lot of reading, but I found the textbook unnecessary, the test come from his lectures. Exams could be a little tricky though because they covered a lot of info.
Dr. Ray is hands down one of the best professors I have taken at UF. He truly cares about his students, and makes an effort to get to know each one individually. His lectures are inspirational and have true real-world applications. The class itself was very easy; he offers extra credit opportunities and is not a tough grader. Take his class!!!
Do not listen to any of the reviews. This class is hard, be prepared to write until you're ready to cry. I have had English Composition classes that are less writing-intensive than this class. Exam covers way too much material, not only are you responsible for lectures and the textbook chapters but he assigns about 15 articles for you to read.
Great professor. He challenges you to be introspective and the readings he assigns will stay with you long after the course. You can't breeze through the class, but workload is balanced and the grade is spread between papers, discussions, and exams. For exams, he loves big ideas and lists. Focus on those when studying, and read everything.
literally the most understanding professor I've ever worked with. I asked to have an exam window moved because my job scheduled me outside of my availability and they wouldn't work with me. he changed my window without any question. he also allowed me to make up 2/5 of a major paper past the due date. amazing guy, pleasure to work with.
Dr. Ray is a great professor. He really wants his students to improve their professional development and provides assignments that encourage students to think about their career goals. Few assignments, but lengthy. Heavy writing assignments but worthwhile. I would definitely take the course again and encourage all students to take this course.
Dr. Ray is a very nice, respected, and intelligent man. He tries to do everything in the best interest of his students and is very accomodating and accessible outside of class. Do NOT take this class if you have the slightest understanding of career building, the workforce, or how to brand yourself. I felt it was a very tedious, bore of a class.
Dr. Ray is a great professor. If you meet the requirements for the discussions and papers you're guaranteed full credit. The exams are fairly easy. Review quizlet and you'll be fine.
fluff on more fluff. nothing concrete learned in this class. most of it is common sense and does not even apply in the modern work force. waste of my tuition and time. UF cheats its students by requiring classes such as this one.
Great guy
Professor Ray is awesome! This class is an easy A as long as you don't fall behind. There are a lot of reading and writing assignments but he's not a tough grader. Two exams that are easy if you just watch his lectures and read all the assigned articles. I personally didn't read the textbook but I think this depends on how you learn best.
The lectures are a little boring, but necessary to watch for the exam. 2 long papers are required, but I hate writing papers and they weren't bad at all. I didn't read the books, just read summaries and that was enough. The class was easy overall and easy to manage.
This class is almost identical to GEB3017. He is a very lenient grader and gives personalized feedback to every student. The interview paper is incredibly easy if you start early. Don't get scared by the example papers. The class was actually very helpful for trying to figure out a career path if you don't have that figured out yet like me :)
Dr. Ray was one of my favorite professors at UF. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He is very fair and grades papers amazingly fast! I enjoyed his personal feedback notes he provided on every assignment submitted. I really appreciate his efforts this semester!
He's truly one of the most caring professors I have had yet. Dr. Ray is understanding that life happens and he tends to be very understanding. His lectures are also really interesting and as long as you keep up with the readings then you will easily receive an A.
Very caring Professor and a helpful class.
Legitimately my favorite class and professor I've had at UF so far. I strongly encourage all business majors to take this class, you'll learn things that will last your entire career. Dr. Ray is the epitome of a caring professor, and he strongly believes in what this class teaches. He makes every class enjoyable.
There is 2 writing assignments you have to do but they aren't all that hard. Easy grader
Dr. Ray is a great man and gives reading material that he believes will really benefit you. There is a heavy amount of writing but you'll do ai-ght in this class if you get my drift.
My favorite class I have ever taken because you really learn so much in such an engaging environment! Half a semester, 2 hour blocks twice a week - 2 books you MUST read about ethical dilemmas because quizzes are difficult and have a strict, short time limit, however you do get notes shared by your table. 100/10 recommend this class!!
He's wonderful. I did not need to take the class, but I did anyway. I am so glad I did. He is phenomenal, and truly a wonderful professor. It's clear that he wants his students to succeed. If you have the opportunity to take this class, you should!
Would not recommend this professor
Dr. Ray is very passionate about what he teaches. His class was very engaging and he's not a tough grader. As long as you read beforehand, the CRAs shouldn't be difficult. I highly recommend completing assignments a couple days beforehand; they're not hard but can be a little time consuming.
Dr. Ray and TA's are super nice and this class is generally easy. Have NO idea why this class has no words credit given (u write close to 8,000 words total). Assignments are also outdated bc coursework is so old, making instructions not the easiest to follow.
GREAT professor and FANTASTIC course! Really helps you prepare for the real world. His lectures are very helpful, and you know that he wants you to succeed inside and outside of class. There is a lot of work to do, but it's all stuff that you should be doing anyway to prepare for your career. I left the class more confident, great class.
amazing professor
Not the best at explaining topics. Was left confused most of the time. Seems to care about memorizing definitions rather than learning.
Fluff on fluff on fluff. Dr. Ray just rambles about things that are not relevant to being successful in the workforce. Extremely boring lecturer.
Brian Ray is one of the kindest professors at UF that I have ever met. His lectures and course gives extremely valuable information that helps start a successful leadership journey. This course is based on 2 papers, 3 discussions and 2 exams. The exams are tough, but he provides a lot of extra credit (30 points).
You can tell Dr. Ray deeply cares about his students. The class is not extremely difficult, but it is going to make you think. There is a lot of writing. Do yourself a favor and stay on top of it. I did not purchase the textbook but still managed B's on both the exams. You get out of this class what you put into it. Make it worthwhile for yourself!
Dr. Ray is a fantastic and caring professor. His classes contain a lot of information, but it's not hard material to learn. Highly recommend doing the extra credit assignments to pad your grade in case you don't do well on the exams, like myself! Assignments aren't hard; they're just time consuming.
Great class! Learned a lot about leadership. Make sure to do the discussions at the right time and study for the exams. There are not a lot of assignments, so make the most out of each one!
Dr. Ray is honestly awesome. Don't listen to the people who said it's hard. I genuinely enjoyed this class a lot. Yeah, the writing assignments are long but they are fun! The exams are honestly really easy. Extra credit is good too. This is a great course. I highly recommend it! Dr. Ray is so caring and is genuinely passionate about this course.
Read the grading rubric and complete all the written assignments. There isn't really any test prep, but if you read the book, listen to all the lectures, and use the Quizlet exam reviews, you will do fine. Do the extra credit for the occupational interviews. It is worth 30 extra points and can bump up your grade a letter.
It is a lot of work, but it is genuinely worthwhile. He is an easy grader who allows for creativity in assignments. Set up your interviews in advance! Some people never got back to me. Exams are easy if you read all the content. Lectures are good for reviewing before exams.
Professor Ray is amazing - one of the kindest and most helpful I've had. His class can be challenging but he provides great feedback and extra credit to ensure you succeed. Definitely use resources like unstuck ai alongside the readings to ace this course.
Dr. Ray is an amazing teacher. The quizzes in the class are kind of difficult and there's quite a bit of reading; however, you can use your table's notes and they're only 20% of the grade. He promises everyone an A or an A- in the class, and the difference really just depends on your quizzes. Overall, really good class. I HIGHLY recommend it.
Brian Ray is one of the best professors I've ever had. He clearly loves what he does and is super accessible outside of class. The course was just one credit, but all assignments were clear, the grading was fair, and if you participate, you'll get an A. He's an inspiring lecturer and a great resource for students.
Dr. Ray is the best! Most engaging lecturer I've had, and one of the only classes I've felt compelled to pay attention in and actually see myself referencing what I learned after the class ended. Definitely a TON of reading. One book was good, but the other was boring and unnecessary, as were most articles. A ton of work in a short period of time.
Dr. Ray is one of the most inspirational and easygoing professors I've had at UF. He truly cares about his students and looks to make an impact on them in the long run. Class is very straightforward and clear on what is expected, would definitely take again.
Loved Professor Ray! I had a back injury midway through the semester, and he accommodated me instantly! 9 Assignments, 2 exams, and 3 papers for the ENTIRE class! He gives you plenty of time to complete all the assignments, just make sure not to procrastinate! Work gets graded by PAs, you'll be making your resume, LinkedIn, and autobiography.
