Great lectures, he knows his stuff. Exams are challenging, so be prepared.
Funny and smart. Lectures are great and easy to understand. Only trade off is that his exams are super hard and challenging. Be prepared to put a lot of time, but its worth it.
good lectures, hard tests, very nice and helpful, has funny personality, lots of work
The best math teacher I've ever had. Exams are really hard, though. Just make sure to study for them and you'll learn a lot from this guy.
Great teacher. Very fair w/ partial credit on exams. Exams are tough, but this is calculus - he definitely isn't going out of his way to make them hard. Take Calc with Prof. Rodas.
he is the best math teacher i ve ever hadexams are tricky.but he will make everything clear and understandable.he is humourous.
has an attitude problem, very discouraing and at times very unhelpfu
terrific math teacher. very highly recommended. very thorough and clear, fantastic handwriting, motivated. tests can be tricky, but his reviews are great preparation
Great teacher. Very fair w/ partial credit on exams. The best math teacher I've ever had.Funny and smart. Lectures are great and easy to understand. Only trade off is that his exams are hard and challenging. Be prepared to put a lot of time, but its worth
The best math teacher I've ever had. Funny and smart. Lectures are great and easy to understand. Only trade off is that his exams are hard and challenging but very fair w/ partial credit on exams.
He a good teacher, and not TOO hard where you freak out.
By all means not an easy teacher. But if your willing to study he is a great teacher! If you are transfering to a new school I suggest taking Rodas, he really prepares you!
Ok ok, first test we get, out of 45 people in the class 32 people got F's, which all got BELOW 40%. What does that say? well, 4 words--not a good teacher. Beware, many ppl withdraw from that class. And beware, lowest test is divided by 2, and out of 5
I got my answers correct on the exams but I lost 25 points from 100. He only accepts his way of solving problems, otherwise he just takes points off~! And he grades papers differently depending on individual students. U N F A I R ~ ! !
I took Rodas last Winter, he is very fair. If you don't study you WILL fail. He prepares you with the study sheet. Could you guys solve those?
energetic which is helpful, but a lot of attitude.Goes through everything very quickly, which can make it difficult. Jumps around, doesn't walk you all the way through a problem. Takes lots of points off tests for the smallest mistakes.I don't recommend.
He is a cute guy! The way he teach may seem to hurry, but it's very clear. If you do the exam preview his give u, u can get good grade easy!
The hardest teacher and class ive ever had. Period. If you want an A DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Thats all i have to say.
very easy, didn't study but still got a straight A.would recommand him because of his clear lecture and funniness. A EXTREMELY STRONG FOUNDATION FOR HIGHER MATH CLASSES.if you plan to take further mathematics,he will be an excellent choise
took math 7 with him. good teacher who makes you interested. hard tests fairly good grading. at the end of the day you feel like a math genius after completing his class. taking math 8 with another teacher now and its so easy its anticlimatic
He teaches very!!!well!! You can get A..
he's a really...really...good!!! The class with him is always interesting.
Very good on teaching you the materials, but tests have nothing to do with the book or lecture. Extremely difficult tests, dont expect to do well...
he is ok. lots of HW and webassigments, taks toomuch time on it so i even can't get chance to work on others. hard and headache. bu ok.
He is really interesting, but got a lot of hw. U have to think that if you have time to do hw before u take it!

Great Teacher! Explains very well. Excessive homework, make sure you have a lot of free time before taking this class. Not easy Material.
This teacher acts gay, and thinks your a jerk if you don't know everything from the course. He goes too fast on his lectures and his test are tricky. I really don't recomend this teacher at all.
he is very helpful and interesting. i really enjoy taking his class.he always explain to me n help me up with my problems.but too much homework some time...he will giv time for that of course. he is funny...!!!
he is awesome. i really want to go his clss, easy if you do ur homework and prepare for the quiz. take him!!!!!!
He is good with explaining things. But, once you get on his "bad" side, forget A, or B. Becareful with who you sit with, he will just accuse you of cheating and give u a hard grade. If you can kiss major Ass no matter how gay the person is, you will get a good grade.
He is a great teacher, and he makes you understand the concepts very wel...BUT HIS TESTS ARE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE! HIS TESTS ARE SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE. He is a great teacher but dont takehis class, out of a class of 48 ,40 dropped, and of the 8 remaining 4 are failiing.
class problems and hw are too easy compared with the exams. exams have too many problems that have to be solved fast, and he takes points off for every simple mistake in calculation, while not allowing calculators. seems to be more interested in catching mistakes than teaching concepts. no scaling!
He is a cool teacher. Explains things pretty clearly and keeps the class fairly interesting. Get homework every night, so gotta keep it done to do well in the class, unless ur real confident with the material. So if you aim for an easy A, u should go for someone else. But if u wanna learn, take him
louzy lah you give me B for what?
This class is HARD! If you're not good at math, don't try! He's a GREAT teacher, funny, explains well, but no matter how well he explains, if math isn't for you, DO NOT take this class.
This guy Sucks. Way TOO MUCH HOMEWORK! Too much going on, even for a 5 unit class. Ridiculous. He expects you to know everything without him teaching it. Assumes that you are a born mathematician and know calculus before you have taken the class. Blows.
He's a funny person. I took his class on fall 2004 was interesting. A LOT of HOMEWORKS! from the websitelike 100 probs and all the odd numbers on the textbook +15 quizs.I am dead serious.Believe it or not.Easy tests but final( 18probs)hehe it's hard and too much. I got B.Definitely not easy teacher
One of the most entertaining teachers I've come across. He is very detail oriented, and is very concerned that you work hard & know what you are doing come test time. He assigns lots of homework for practice, that if you do, along w/ all the probs in the book, you should be ok. If not, drop early.

He's not an easy grader. If you wish to get an easy A, I do not recommend you to take his class. You gotta work your ass off in his math class, n his tests can get rather challenging sometimes.
He's a teacher with challenging questions. He wants his students to really understand the concept and really use their brains to solve applications and definitions questions. As long as you pay attention and do your revision, an A is not that difficult. Never underestimate him!
excellent teacher! he is very helful and teaches very well. his tests are easy if you study enough. no homework. quizzes and worksheets help you rise your grade. he is very funny! if u take him, ask him how to put an elephant in a fridge!!
Teaches fast come ready to learn

He is the best and the clearest math teacher in SMC.
Very funny and enthusiastic teacher. The class itself is very intense but he makes the subject clear and enjoyable. I strongly recomend him but not for those looking for an easy class.
His lectures are excellent. You don't need to read the book at all to do the homework as long as you have your notes. Tests were horrible though. You don't have enough time to finish the tests and he puts questions on them, that are above and beyond what was on the homework or web assign.
A very good teacher, if you want to learn Math you should take him, his lectures are really clear, and not boring. But if you think about easy grade, then maybe you should look for a different teacher, because you need to work for your grade.
Mr. Rodas is a very nice guy. yet the class is not that easy. You have to work hard for your A! BUT overrall i do recommmend him.
He was a nice guy who seemed to care even though no one else did!
He is not good for international students who can not speak english well. His lectures are not clear..
One of best teachers I know (best teacher of math that I know so far). The classes aren't boring, he explains the subject very clearly. Tests aren't too easy, but he grades fairly. If you want to learn and you are not affraid to study, then take him. If you're lazy, then don't! (you'll probably fail the class!)
I gave him 3s in all, since first the class is not that long. Due to the time contrainst the class seems to be a little too fast. Mr. Rodas is a great teacher, but having a hard subject, just as College Algebra, for an hour and a half will make any great math teacher seem like he is a bad one. He is a good teacher worth taking, a longer class.
I took Math 23 with Mr.Rodas.He is a real nice guy.Very patient with his students.Clear lecture.Tests are not very easy, but everything is based on homework, quiz as well as web assignment. You have to work hard to get an A.Effort does pay.I recommend you to take him IF you are hardworking enough.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!! he expects you to know everything, so unless you are a 4.0 student who loves calc. Tests are diff from lectures. Doesnt grade on a curve even to make up for the horrible tests. I worked so hard and was in the math lab 4 days a week and he barely gave me a C. All the good ratings are just suck-ups, dont listen to them!! BAD
If all the good ratings are just suck-ups, then all the bad ratings are just idiots. He makes everything as clear as possible, and his tests seem designed to push how hard you're thinking about the material. If you're just plain bad at math, and you never get it and never will, then you shouldn't be in his classes anyway. Really good teacher.
This is a great teacher! It is a FIVE UNIT CLASS so prepare to work hard! You need to devote a lot of time to this class to get an A. Most of the bad reviews are not the teacher's fault, it is just a difficult course. Mr. Rodas makes an otherwise boring subject very exciting and fun to learn. He is also very helpful and a fair grader.
i never feel i understand math stuff before take his class. Before his class, i just try to remember how to solve questions, but now i can see how these formula come and why use it. He is amazingly clear and organized!!! Do not suppose easy, this is math23. If you do hard work you can get A. GET READY TO LEARN!!!!!!
Rodas is not an easy teacher. The material and pace is very difficult. However, if you work really hard for an A you'll get one. He is very helpful and available and is a fair grader. The class is just overall difficult. I got an A but worked me ass off.
I think he is a nice teacher. His class was well organized, and his lecture was very clear. He was always helpful whenever I asked any questions. I like his class. He is wonderful.
Horrible prof. if you don't understand a concept you become way behind and he doesn't make any effort to help you catch up. Only reccomend for math majors!
TEST ARE EXTEMELY HARD!!! Expects everyone to be a math major. Does internet homework! Half of the class dropped and who knows how many passed!
I liked his class very much! He doesn's an easy grader though, helpful, fair, and fun! Take his class if you would like to improve yourself!
Challenging, helpful, and funny. I definitely recommend him if you're one of those students who want to learn the material instead of just looking for an easy teacher. He is very clear and his notes on the board are very neat and organized. I loved going to his classes, :)!!!
This is my second time taking this teacher and I still think he is one of the best math teachers at SMC. His lectures are clear, he is a fair and fast grader, and his examples are hilarious. He also goes out of his way to answer any questions. The classes he teaches are FIVE units, so they are very challenging! Be ready to work your butt off!
he's a great teacher, teaches very clearly. KNOWS what he's teaching. tests are pretty hard, but if you study the material,n come to class everyday, u'll do well. do the hw and web assign. theyre good exercise
Im taking his class right now and WOW probably the best math teacher i've ever had! He is clear, he keeps you interested, and keeps you on your toes! He gives online hw, book work and quizzes...but he really prepares you well for tests and quizzes with the online and book work... GREAT teacher for math 22...no doubt i will get an A in this class
Easy exams and fair grading. Get involved in class.
took him last fall. Excellent teacher.. easily the best in SMC. liked him for his enthusiasm. Just work hard and get A.
very rude, very bias.. give hard exam and if he ignore u prepare to get an F... he always compare ur work with other..
He is dedicated. His exams are fair. He is well-organized and his lecture is really helpful. You don't have to read or refer to the book to get certain concepts. As long as you come to the class and do the homework, you can get a good grade.
I'll give him two thumbs-up for the way he teach, his helpfulness, his dedication, his clarity, his jokes, and his appearance. Although I ended up with B, but I wont ever regret taking his class. He's simply the best. I took Math 23 which is a hard class and we met 4 days a week, however, he made it real fun to do. Yet he gave lotta hw!
I agree with the person below on how he's a great professor. Hes very dedicated, will help if you need it. I thought this is a very good university quality course and I felt I learned alot (unlike alot of other SMC classes). I got a B too but its a math class and im not a wizz. Just make sure you DO YOUR HW and youll be fine : )
I placed into Calc but figured I would take this class b/c it would be more of a review. I got a B+ in Trig in high school and ended up failing this class. He's a tough grader and his test format is all over the place. He talks REALLY fast in class so its difficult to follow him. When asked him he could repeat something slower he made fun of me!
His exams are tough, but he gives partial credits. He gives online hw periodically, but thats a way to train urselves up. Thou he acts as if he is a gay, but i really like the way he teaches. He is so helpful in explaining materials. Afterall, I got a B in his class, and i believe that this is what i deserve.
Dang, DONT TAKE HIM. he's a disaster.
I had to take him for 24 since he was the only one teaching it. That been said, this instructor needs classes on teaching. Much like the rest of SMC math profs he knows his math but can't teach. Hard grader, partial credit is helpful but biased. Acts friendly in class but hates you if u go to his office. Lectures are boring..calc Work very hard for
a very fair grader. i think people who **** and moan like a little kid were not working as much as they were supposed to. so i'd say take him if you're ready to learn and work.
Good teacher, do not try to be a smart a** with him, it will get you no where. He is fair, but be ready to work! The material is hard and heavy not an easy class, but many people got A's and B's.
if your 1st language is not english then take other teacher speak really fast 75% people are 2nd time to take his class fisrt they got F or D and then they are taking the class again I saw several people who's third time to take his class because not many teacher teach MA23 one girl who from Peru who study really hard cried after TEST beacause hard
Rodas is definitely a good Math teacher. He explains everything well, though his exams, especially the final, are somewhat difficult. But dudes, that's MATH! He is friendly and funny too. You'll never get bored attending his class. Go to class and do the hw, then u'll do fine. I got a B.
I got an A in Math 20 so i took this class cause someone told me this teaher is easy. However. I'm getting a D in here cause he only likes certain students and grades them well. He gives too much HW but tests are way more difficult than the HW. No I'm not a flaky person, I go to every class and do all the HW in time.
Very enthusiastic, positive, and helpful.
Rodas is a really, really good teacher. His lectures are precise and to the point, and he makes sure to cover everything that'll be on his exams. It's all fair game. But you also have your part to do, and it's a big one. Also, he's got a really geeky sense of humor, so it's entertaining to listen to some of his stories. He's quite brilliant.
I'll give it to you straight: he's definitely one of the best professors at SMC. Sure his tests might be difficult, but he goes over the material in class. I wasn't an ideal student, and yet his experience in teaching and sense of humor made the class fun. You come to realize how much you've learned after taking the final. Take him but be attentive
I took him for math 23 and 24... and i can conclude that HE IS THE VERY BEST MATH TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD!! nuff said...
Great teacher, really knows what he's doing. His lectures are the core of his class, and his tests are hard, but a fair grader. Recommend if you want to learn, don't if u want an easy A
this class was really tough, Mr rodas is a good teacher but his tests are really hard to pass. If you are not a math major take someone else.
He is a good teacher, who explains really well. I like the fact that he is a well organized person. His lectures are clear. HOWEVER, the test.....tests are really difficult to pass. If you want to challege yourself, go ahead. If you care about your GPA, look for other prof. like Jimenez or Murray
If you take math 7 in summer or winter, and if you haven't taken the course before, good luck, regardless of the teacher. I had to drop, but Rodas' teaching is so great that I'm STILL going to the 7:15 class every day and doing homework. He explains the WHY, in addition to the how. Because of Rodas, I'm sure I'll be ready to ace calc in the spring.
he is really nice
Rodas makes a difficult subject under any circumstances easier, but still not easy. This class is challenging and fast paced. A lot of material is covered, however, Rodas prepared us with extensive exam reviews and quizzes. He's always available for additional help and, awkward joking aside, fairly patient. He's one of the best profs in the dep
Nice teacher. When he is in good mood he will be funny in class. He explains fairly well. Homework is usually easy. His exams are hard! you gotta study a lot to get an A in this class!
very helpfull. HE makes u feel like he wantes u to understand and like math. He has such a great personality
he is realy helpfull.
This is a hard class no matter what. Rodas presents the subject in the easiest way possible, his lectures are fast moving but he gets all the information for you, you really gotta go home and think about it for yourself. The tests are damn hard you really have to think about the concepts. This class is hard but not impossible. I managed to pass.
I really enjoyed his lectures. He's very clear, concise, and presents everything in the simplest form. He likes to challenge you in the exams to see if you actually understand the concepts or you're simply memorizing the procedures. If you're a serious student, this is the class to take. I'm def prepared for Math 7. Note: lazy students, stay away!
Everyone was complaining about how unfair or assumingly lazy he was in grading, but his lectures are very clear and he explains nearly every step. College Algebra isn't the hardest thing in the world, but the reason why people didn't pass was because they were very lazy. Highly recommended.
his lectures are very clear and detailed. he keeps class fun by making jokes so you won't fall asleep during lectures. his test's are challenging but he is really good at giving partial credit
GREATT teacher. Really learn so much from him. QUIZZES are a joke, wksts are a joke. TESTS are challenging, but you're in math 8 for a reason. If you want the a you need to work. Tests r straight forward however pay attention, very easy to make mistakes. Teaches the material really well specially for an abstract subject
he is a cool guy teacher BUT he talk ways too fast. I've never had problem with math in my life and i had to go home and re-read everything he taught to understand. he would be awesome if would talk like he wasn't on crack (i'm not saying he is by no means)
good teacher, funny, good ways of teaching, willing to help after class. his exam is a lil difficult i have to say. but thats fine if u work hard, probably would get A or B
Best teacher ever! A little lot of homeworks..but it helps your understanding. His lecture is very clear. Just take this class, you won't regret.
Great Teacher. One of the most amazing math teachers Ive ever had. BUT WAIT! he is NOT easy!! Lectures are crisp/clear/funny. however, tests are very challenging and difficult. If youre ready to do all the HW and study, take him...
Rodas is probably one of the best teachers SMC has. Unfortunately for me, I had to drop his class due to poor study habits. This is not an easy class. You will be challenged all the way through it! He's EXTREMELY HELPFUL and wants you to succed. Just don't waste his time by doing the bare minimum.
Prof. Rodas is an amazing teacher. He wants every single student in his class to earn the grade they want an is extremely helpful. He answers all questions and is very concise and clear. He is also very challenging and makes you work hard for your grade. I recommend taking him if you either enjoy math or are a science major. Got an A, not an easy A
He is great teacher, crazy, evil, hard, but he makes the class so enjoyable and that's what you need for math classes. I love him! Best math teacher at SMC!
professor Rodas is great! He is very very clear in explaining.Homework every class but he doesn't check it. Regular quizzes, taken from homework questions(Easy). However, his tests are not easy. It's manageable but not easy. Online work has to be done and is counted towards the grade.
BEST MATH TEACHER EVER!Must say, tests are hard as they are NOT scantron but if you study hard you will certainly pass. His lectures are better than ANY book will teach. The point of this class is simple, Rodas wants you to LEARN math, not memorize it.People who memorize formulas, this class is NOT for you. HE EVEN DANCES IN CLASS! BEST PROFESSOR EVER!
best math teacher at smc! take him if you have to go onto math 7 and 8 because he really prepares you. his tests are a bit challenging but nothing too hard to handle. if you put in some effort, you could leave the class with a B. Hes funny & makes the class fun & interesting. i Loveddddd his class.
Professor Rodas is definitely the teacher to take for Math 8. He is very clear during his lectures, class is never boring or quiet, and encourages questions. But you MUST do the homework and study like every test is your Final if you want to get a B or higher in the class. Memorize everything you learned in trig and remember skills from Math 07.
He'll push you to better yourself by yourself. He uses the words stupid and dumb to insult students, unacceptable for a professor. He also talks about personal life too much wasting valuable time. If you need to take the class and don't need help from a teacher this is a very fun and entertaining show. If you need a supportive teacher go elsewhere.
Professor Rodas is very clear on his lecture and his tests are very straight forward! BUT..YOU HAVE TO STUDY..I read some comments like "I did homework and I couldn't pass the test"..duh!!!!! Do u expect good grade with doing just homework in mathematic class? DUDE..anyway he is the best teacher at smc!!
the class was hard and the lecture was hard. but he made it fun and he was prepared and good at teaching... but made me stress alot because the material was so hard..
As Professor Rodas said about himself"he's nice but his tests are hard"Which is true!We have around 14 quizes,he drops 2 of the lowest score.4 tests and he counts 50% of the lowest test & a final. He post up weekly online hw which is compulsary.Overall, his test are extremely tricky but if you put in the effort and understand the material.U'll b fine
As Professor Rodas said about himself"he's nice but his tests are hard"Which is true!We have around 14 quizes,he drops 2 of the lowest score.4 tests and he counts 50% of the lowest test & a final. He post up weekly online hw which is compulsary.Overall, his test are extremely tricky but if u put in the effort and understand the material.U'll b fine
He's a cool guy and very good teacher. Tests were challenging but he gives partial credit when deserved. The lecture and notes were very clear. He's extremely fast at grading which is good if you get nervous about scores. My first ever B in a math class but I still recommend him highly. The final was unusually easy in our class. Take him if you can
The worst teacher. I killed myself and got tutors but he is such a hard teacher. Hardest exams I have seen. Expect getting a C or lower going to his class. More than 70% dropped out of his class. :(( don't take him.
Unless you're a math stud he is NOT THE BEST teacher for the avrg student. He "dictates" everything once nd FAST, expects you to comprehend right away, if you don't your on your own w/ h.w. His priority is to fill the class w/the most material as possible, not your understanding..that is bad. I'm an avrg B+ math stdent sadly my first class i FAIL!!
Lectures very fast! lots of homework,on-line work. easy to fall behind. He will use the online HW for the exams. If you didn't complete your on-line work you cant take the exam. so, if your behind you're screwed! Don't take him unless you're a math major. If you do take him, I suggest you review functions before this class.
He is definetly changed. Some people think he is the best math teacher in SMC, which is not true. His both Quizes AND Exams are extremely tricky. Remember it is hard! and think he likes guys so if you are not his type he will treat you unfairly...I took him last semester and it all true!
I dont disagree with the rumor that hes changed but I think he's still a fine prof compared to other math profs. His quizzes actually prepared me for the exam and problems in exams were just reflecting lectures and hw. And, hes really fast paced but, thinking the other way around, he covers all of important sections in order to prepare me for math7
He is changed. I dont recommend taking him...Trust people when they say this professor is difficult cause it is true. I AM NOT JOKING!
Makes You Want To Drop Out Of School. Extremely Difficult.
he is the hardest teacher i have ever had. the exams only have 5 questions, and are worth 100 points, so you get ONE wrong and you are SCREWED. worst teacher. if i didnt absolutly neeeed this class now, i would drop without a doubt. i regret taking him so much. BTW I actually am a math major, and he is still the worst teacher.
yeah!he is a very good teacher!many people say that his teaching is too hard, and his tests are extremely tricky~but think about this, if you just memorize the questions without knowing exactly how to do it, you'll never learn anything!he is just making sure that we all understand the concepts which prepares us for next level~~
Prof. Rodas knows his stuff and is pretty good at teaching it to others. The reason he did not get top scores from me is because at times he can be frightening.. He is very strict with hw and will not let you do your test if you didn't bring it to class on exam day. And also at times he can be a bit mean/b*tchy (he'll make unnecessary comments etc)
He speaks fast. His tests are hard. Have lots of quizes, tests and exams. I Do Not Recommend Him.
easiest math teather at SMC, i got an A and I didnt even study! love this guy
Hard class
He has his own way of teacher which is not always a good thing. But he explains fairly clearly and makes math not so unbearable. Like all math classes, doing the homework is essential. You can pull an A by studying regularly. DON'T MISS CLASS. COOL teacher.
Not that hard. Ask questions and do homework and all the other stuff he tells you to do, study and you'll pass. Not a hard professor.
Great teacher - clear, fair, fun, and willing to help even until late hours! You don't find dedication like that around much! Do the homework, ask lots of questions, and listen to everything he says. A must take for anyone preparing for the real world work situations and up for a challenge.
a great person. it is an easy class. clear lectures. but you'll need to study 15+ hours per week to get an A (excluding homework hours). I study around 7 hours per quiz/ exam and keep getting average C on the exams. You'll get an A on the quiz, then get a C on the test. I'm planning on receiving a D/F and retaking in on winter. (a lot of quizzes)
Hardest math class i ever took. Rodas is a great teacher and he is so clear, but the material just moves too fast and there is so much studying that you need to do in order to pass. I had a 4.0 before this class but I'm gonna end up getting a B. Go to the math lab, do his review sheets before tests, and STUDY. Hes is funny, great teacher, but HARD
the best teacher that I've ever met and the best class that i've ever had! his lecture is really clear but you have to read book in oder to catch up with the material bucause he goes over the meterial really fast in the class. the study guide is really helpful~no tricky tests~ great teacher! highly recommended!!
Prepare yourself - u will be told "this is really hard" repeatedly - lecture material not equal to test material - he's available to answer questions when he's eating and then acts annoyed - 3 credit class requires way more than average study time - tries to be cool and funny, but ends up making an inappropriate remarks - NOW you decide ...
Good class. Rodas makes math manageable but still challenging. Like all other math classes, do homework everyday and you'll be fine.
Highly NOT recommended. No explanation needed really, just a really bad professor. I had a really bad experience. Got a good grade, but no thanks to the professor
WORST professor I ever had.unhelpful, ungracious, sarcastic, rushes thru syllabus to keep up with his selfish timetable, does not test whatever is in the homework, does not give hints for what to study for exams, expects you to know EVERYTHING just coz he does.STAY FAR AWAY IF YOU WANT A GOOD GRADE.
Rodas is a great teacher. Tests aren't overly difficult and he's a fair grader. Lectures are clear and engaging. Best math teacher I've had at SMC, highly recommend.
Professor Rodas is a very good math teacher. Very clear with his lectures and what he expects from you. Unfortunately he is extremely se.xist. I've never seen him get mad at a female student. If he treated female students the way he treats male students(humiliates and berates males), there would certainly be an inquiry by SMC of discrimination.
professor rodas is a cool teacher ! He is funny ! But his tes never been easy, and not really following books .If u need an A for ur gpa ,he is not your cup of tea sorry
I failed the first exam which motivated me to do well and ace the rest of his exams and the final. Attend every class session and listen well. Keep up with the class material and you will do fine. Do all your homework. If you want an A, then you better be diligent and earn it. Rodas is not an easy professor. Class could be fun and humorous.
Definitely not recommended. Homework is so complicated. Super hard tests, you ended up teaching yourself, confuse and retake it again. Homework material isn't on the book. You gotta be genius to figure out his exams.
A very interesting professor. Entertaining and clear lectures. Be warned however, his homework load is intense, quizzes every week (loaded with tricky questions), won't let you take exams without homework being completed (exams are also tricky). Very fast paced and difficult to keep up. I do not recommend, had to withdraw (among many others).
I took his Bus Calc class. The class is really hard, but he tries to simplify it for you so you better understand. He is also really funny, he tries to lighten your mood when your stressed for exams, but he does so by making fun of you, in a nice way.
Omg, he gave too many homework. supplemental hw, online hw, hw from the book. Hard exams, do not recommend taking him. Giving lecture straight from the book, the exams nowhere you can study for it because it is so tricky. Quiz every week. Not good. Have to pay money for online hw. Regret taking him
Great teacher! Gives great explanations and is straight forward with his lessons. As long as you do the homework and pay attention, you will do well.
Excellent teacher. Very clear, well help you understand no matter how long it takes and leads an entertaining class. If you are not a "math person," however, you might want to aim for someone less interested in making sure you leave class understanding math.
He's the best Math Professor I've had. I've had professors at 4 year institutions now and they don't hold a candle to him. Class goes quick though.
By far the best math professor at SMC, but a LOT OF WORK. I studied minimum 4 hours a day and coming out of the final just now I'm a borderline B/C. Super clear with the material and super laid back guy you can joke with, but he makes damn well sure that you KNOW what he's teaching. Highly recommend if you think you can put in the time.
One of the better Calculus teachers at SMC. Does what he can to make material as clear as possible but this is a 5 unit calculus course, it is definitely not easy. Attend class pay attention and do all homework and online reviews prior to test. If you dedicate and apply yourself to the course you should be ok. Recommend going to his OH or Math Lab.
He is the worst professor I have ever seen and heartless professor. do not take his class. If you want to take his class you need to be super good in math.
He is quite funny in class.Too many quizs and exams. Give easy examples in class ,But the Exams And Quizs is Very Hard !!!!!His points are not clear. Not suggest His class
He doesn't use textbook except for homework, so it is somehow hard to follow. He doesn't explain theorem rigorously. All he wants you to know is calculation. Exams have TONS of questions, though not too difficult. He thinks he is funny, but no. He tends to make easy concept sound really difficult and fancy.
Professor Rodas is heartless. Not only does he ridicule and pick on students, he is a hard grader. Once you get on a side of him where he has any reason not to favor you, you will pay the price with your grade. Unfortunate too, I was looking forward to his class in the beginning.
This class is super challenging. He enjoys making tests more challenging than they need to be, considering it's community college. He would actually laugh before handing out exams because he knew they were hard. 7 quizzes, about 12 online homework assignments, 3 midterms one cumulative final. Really hard math class that requires a lot of effort.
He is a good professor. As long as you study a little the class is passable.I got a B in the class and I really didn't study. The test questions are similar to the examples he gives and the Hw
I took this class durring fall of 2013. I got an A in his clas, but boy did I struggle. I had to drop my Chem class and my communications class just to keep up with his unclear lectures and struggle through the HW. Because god forbid if you ask a question and its stupid he will make fun of you.
Took him in the winter hence a rigorous learning schedule. I failed the 1st 2 tests but I buckled down for the rest. The tests were CONCEPTUAL & mechanical. He really puts a lot of effort to help his students to understand the material. I feel that I learned TRUE Calculus as oppose to others that just learn on the "how to" as to the "why?" Aced it!
took the class last fall.It was hard,he spoke so fast ,less examples in class ,tons of hw .Quiz every week and quizzes are hard.examples are easy in class but tests are very hard. he s so confident and make fun of student who ask easy question, i drop his class after mid term
Best math 8 professor at SMC
Professor Rodas is the best math teacher at SMC because he wants to explain more than what you're learning so that way it sticks instead of just going through the material. However, you have to put in the work. Otherwise you wont pass.
Quiz every week! Assignments from :book, notes and online work is at least 6 hours of work per day! Tests are ridiculously hard! Examples in class are easy but homework is tougher than the test! By the time you are done with homework, you'll have no idea if you learned the material or not! In the beginning 47 students enrolled and 10 were left!!!!!
Pro Rodas is the most amazing professor at SMC His lectures are clear and fun You dont feel the time. Quizzes every week.. which are easy.. they keep you from being behind.. his tests are not hard but long if you practice and do the homework and you know what you're doing, then you'll be fine.. He cares about his students i took 5 classes with him
Prof Rodas is the best math teacher in my life. (I really hated math). He's not easy grader at all, but as long as you practice a lot based on his lecture, you should be fine. He's very organized, sharp and clear. I struggled at the beginning, had to drop another class. But it was worth to do it. Take his class if you want to learn.
Professor Rodas is very good at explaining Calculus but his tests are impossible! He gives you about an hour to complete his tests which is never enough time. He also makes fun of students for just about anything. An A in this class is not impossible but you need to work so hard. Rodas doesn't just hand out A's easily.
Brian Rodas is a very clear professor, but if you're looking for a teacher who goes into the subject instead of scraping the top, then, Rodas isn't for you. I took the Winter course and it was accelerated like no tomorrow. Grading was incredibly HARD e.i. negative sign or equals sign lingering ? Minus 2-3 pts. Tests were the hardest. Don't take.
Very organized. Clear expectations. Exams are comprised of problems that come from in class examples and from homework. Putting in time out of class is essential and worthwhile. He said "Hard work pays off now!" Wasn't lying. Was very fast paced in winter and I was able to pass albeit having no life outside of school for those 6 weeks.
Rodas is one of the Archaic Math faculty at SMC. He has been there for years (maybe since the beginning of time?) and there's a certain level of perfection he expects. Tests are long and the time given is short. He takes 2-3 pts for negative signs etc. Homework is not mandatory. Calculators are a sin in his eyes. If u value ur life do not take this
Rodas is one of the Archaic Math faculty at SMC. He has been there for years (maybe since the beginning of time?) and there's a certain level of perfection he expects. Tests are long and the time given is short. He takes 2-3 pts for small errors. Homework is not mandatory. Calculators are a sin in his eyes. If u value ur life do not take this
I enrolled this fall and after the first week, I dropped it. I could not keep up with his pace since I am also taking chem 11 and physics 21. IMO, he's a great teacher, but not for me. He only go over stuff he thinks you have to know n expects you to learn the rest n master them the next day. He gives a lot of homework but doesn't collect it
While he is clear, he expects too much from his students. He really is a perfectionist. He does not understand that most of the students in his class do NOT have the same passion about math like he does. You know that hardest problem in the HW you can't understand? Expect it on the test, with additional unnecessary analysis. TOUGH grader.
Professor Rodas is a very nice guy and tries to keep the class entertained by joking alot. That is the only nice thing I have to say. His exams are very difficult and he gives book homework and online hw plus quizzes every week and exams about every 4 weeks. If you do take him, please make sure that you take no additional classes with his.
Great Professor!!Would take him again and again. Very well organized, lots of work hours, makes his lectures fun, makes very difficult material easy and understandable. You just HAVE TO DO YOUR PART!!! DO THE HOMEWORK! If you are lazy, dont do hw, dont complain about professor! Lots of quizzes, he drops 2lowest scores, 5exams, course is intensive
He's an amazing teacher but expect a few things from his class; lots of homework, very difficult exams that take up the entire class period, more course work than other math teachers. In the end, i'd take him again. So unless you're very strong in math, don't expect to pass.
Prof. Rodas is an amazing lecturer - he's funny and very clear. He gave a fair amount of homework, and is a very fair grader. Most of the questions on the tests/quizzes were similar to homework problems (from the book or from the supplemental problems he gives). His tests are hard because they're only on hour long, but he asks tons of questions.
Rodas is a great teacher. His lectures are the most organized I have seen from any professor. They are also very clear and it allows you to really learn the information. Homework was not due, but I recommend you do it every night. I'm not going to lie, the tests are pretty hard. But he is very generous and fair with partial credit. I got an A.
Extremely tough. I will admit that the tests got easier throughout the course though. Still, they were all hard because I never had a good idea of what to expect. Always nervous before every quiz and test. Get as much help as you can and do the homework.
I really love his teaching. Its super organized and he does everything by steps, making sure to explain those steps. This is the second time I take calculus and he does an incredible job in explaining. He gives online homework, non mandatory but recommended homework, quizzes every week and exams every 4 weeks. Its possible to pass with hard work.
Professor Rodas's tests are impossible and not enough time is given to complete them; they are NOT based on the homework. He makes fun of students for asking questions and is rude during his office hours. I am a straight-A student but dropped this class because it was ridiculous. He seems to get an ego boost from failing students. DO NOT TAKE.
Great teacher but lots of homework
He makes his tests, quizzes and homework extremely difficult. He will choose the hardest problem from the homework and put it on the test. He explains step by step but the examples he gives in class are way easy, compared to what we have to do for homework. I wouldn't take again. I have a D and he won't curve unless you pass his cumulative final.
I attended class everyday. This was a scholar class so he had 5 projects for us, and I have done every single one of them. I asked him for help and he didn't seem to provide much advice. I was really close to a C and he knew I struggled so he didn't pass me. This class ruined my GPA, and it is the toughest class I've ever taken.
Extemely hard class. I got bad grades until I chose to trust his teaching method of learning and perfecting the concept, instead of memorizing problems. I think a lot of people didn't do that and therefore had a hard time with him. Do all of the hw!!! He tends to pick the sneaky hard ones ppl don't do. Ask if you don't get those
Rodas is an amazing teacher who is always willing to help! He breaks down each concept and really wants you to succeed. The class itself is hard but if you keep up with the practice problems (which are not graded) and go to his office hours the class is very manageable. Just get ready to work!
Too much Homework. Doesn't give me enough time to learn the material. He gives you one day to learn the new subject, by the next day you'll need to know what he taught.
Brian is not an easy professor by any means, in fact he is rather hard. I had him during winter 2017, . Homework daily, exams weekly your expected to learn and remember everything in 1 day, but he is an amazing professor his lectures are phenominal and he is just AMAZING. He's hard because he wants you to learn and you really do learn so much.
Professor Rodas is one of the best math professor I had. Might be tough but fair overall. If you do all the homework, attend all the lectures, read the book, practice(the usual routine for any math class) you will do well in the class. Unfortunately, I had to drop cuz overloaded myself this semester but his lecture is amazing. Humorous and funny.
Having a light schedule (not working too much, not loaded with physcs 21 series/chem 11) would mean not shedding as much blood, sweat & tears & it would be more rewarding. Class feels rushed: M-Th for 1 hr. Always engages the class "help me out here folks," quite exciting w/ "Alright! Good Stuff!" & very generous grader, but keeps you on your toes.
Any math is hard! Prof. Rodas is a fair grader. To get an A: do all hw prob (every single one), dont miss class (great lectures), before exam make a list of concepts/theorems and do review (handout & in book). Trust me youll get a grade you want if you really do it all and on time. Good luck! Be honest w/ yourself, to succeed u need to work hard.
You really have to work a lot to get a decent grade in his class. If you don't have a good work ethic you shouldn't take this professor. He is really clear during his lectures and he gives a lot of homework which is really helpful and mandatory. Be sure to ask him questions if you don't understand something, he is more than happy to help.
Great lecturer but tests are INSANE. Far more difficult than any homework or class examples. And to be honest, this guy just doesn't care about his students. If you go to office hours he just makes you feel stupid and kind of tries to rush you out like he has better things to do.
This teacher was given a 3 unit class, however, he was treating it as a 5 unit math class with the amount of homework from the book + online. Why can't you just give 10 problems on what you want us to learn than torturing your students with a bunch of homework that is unnecessary. Final is cumulative, yet, he will not go over old exams.
Professor Rodas was engaging, caring, and filled lectures with so many inside jokes. Exams were more concept based so hw probs will help but studying lecture notes and his hand picked WebAssign problems will help a lot! Also, FORM STUDY GROUPS / HAVE A STUDY PARTNER! Having someone test your command of the material is an absolute must!
His lectures are really good and has amazing handwriting. However, his tests are really hard and he assigns a lot of HW. Had online HW, which counted for credit and textbook HW which didn't count for credit, but was essential for doing well on tests. This class is difficult to get a passing grade if you're taking another STEM class like chem.
He is a great teacher! He really takes his time to make sure you understand the material. I also loved the fact that he tells you how the math applies to the real world. He isn't easy but if you put in the time, you'll be good! Do the book homework, It really helps!
By far the most challenging class Ive taken at SMC but probably my favorite class. Online hw, Book hw (not graded), and 5 projects. Tests are challenging but he grades fairly. He cares deeply about his students and is willing to help you if he sees you trying. I would highly recommend him if you have time and want to learn. Thank you Prof Rodas!
It's my first Math class in SMC and I'm really glad that I got into Prof. Rodas class. Math 7 by no means is easy but prof. Rodas explanation is very thorough and he's accessible outside class for office hour. If you want to succeed you have to do the exercise he assigns, review his notes, and form study groups. Practice is the main key to success.
if youre good at math youll love this class. His lectures are neat and clear. But omg soo much hw. Hw in the book everyday, 2-3 online assign. /week., quizzes every week, plus other worksheets sometimes. It was a good class and and I have a good foundation for math 7 now but my A was a hard earned one. Be careful if u have other hard classes
Professor Rodas is one of the best math teachers I've had. Math 11 in a 6-week session is tough and work heavy regardless of professor, but his lectures are really organized and he teaches the meaning and derivation of every concept to make it all easy to understand, which a lot of professors don't do.
The teacher has recently made the entire class use Proctorio which is a rather invasive software used to catch cheaters while we take online tests. Super super invasive- feels like Im in a dystopian society. His attitude is not for everyone and kinda just a downer. He was bad before, but now its just creepy and bad. 360 pan of room for testtaking
Professor Rodas is one of the best Math teacher at SMC. Lectures are clear and organized and very easy to understand and willing to help if you ask for it. However, he is one of the tough teachers but only wants you to understand the concept of the material. DO ALL THE HOMEWORK, ASK QUESTION, WORK HARD. But avoid if math is your weakness.
There's one thing that should remain clear of Rodas and that is that he really does care for his students and only wants us to succeed. With that being said, these reviews are no joke he is TOUGH! Be prepared for hard exams with no room for error, he is the co-head of the math dept. so he knows his stuff, just be warned. He does use proctorial!
He tells you to ask questions when you don't understand! When you ask him, he replies with snarky comments like, "are you in the right class, why are you asking this question". He expects you to understand the material before he goes over it. Obviously a smart professor, but don't think a classroom setting is for him. Why waste your GPA.
If you're looking for a good teacher that'll set you up with a strong math background, come here. He's very clear with his work, but very difficult in testing. Only take this class if you're willing to put in work
I took Professor Rodas when COVID became a thing and omg he helped me so much. I was having a tough time but he has been very kind through the process and I am grateful. Thinking back, his tests and quizzes are really straightforward, still hard but if you study well, you will get an A.
Pros: Very organized, great handwriting, posts lectures & notes, great personality, drops lowest exam grade (/5 exams), responds to emails fast. Cons: Extremely difficult tests,Tough grader, will take out points even if answer is correct, around 1-2 lessons per day. Hmk: 5 exams, 5 projects, 15 Quizes, 60q's hmk (not graded) online hmk graded.
This class is very difficult unless you put in the necessary work. There are weekly quizzes but he grades them very fairly, and the exam questions are always stuff that you've covered. Go to office hours for questions and put in the time, or else you'll never get an A. Overall though, Rodas is a nice and understanding person who's a tough grader
He is a very nice teacher, but do not take his class if you are prone to procrastinate. He is a very tough grader and he gives a lot of homework. I would not recommend him to anyone unless you already is very good at math.
Do not take this class if you are not good at math. The exams are so hard and the homework is a nightmare. He graded a few of my exams and quizzes incorrectly to give me a lower grade than I actually got, so watch out for that. He based our eligibility for the next math on our first exam, so if you failed it, you can't enroll for math 28. Avoid!
I have been taking prof Rodas's classes for a long time. Math 2, math 7, and math 11. His lectures are extremely organized and his notes are very neat. Don't hesitate to ask questions, go to office hours, and go to the Math Lab! It's a lot of work but after spending a lot of time understanding the material it really sticks when it's time to test.
Just got the grade in his class in winter. He is an excellent math teacher that has passion and enthusiasm for both teaching and math. Professor Rodas like visualize the math, if you like that, you ganna like him as well.
Brian Rodas is a very strict grader on tests and quizzes, however the problems he will give you are very fair compared to the homework. There is about 5 hours of homework a day, it is not mandatory but if you don't do it you won't pass the test. He is the most skilled math professor I had at explaining concepts effectively in a short amount of time
This online class was horrible. This professor talks down to his students when they have questions. When you make a little mistake, he takes off 3 of the 5 points for the problem. I do not recommend if you struggle in math
I can't deny he is a good teacher when it comes to teaching math. He is a TOUGH GRADER. He takes off most points in tests for simple errors, even if the answer is correct. The main problem is HIS ATTITUDE, extremely rude. Snarky comments. He does not give 2nd chances, and he ignores emails. If you want respect, & to pass math, DO NOT PICK HIM!!!!!!
It wasn't until Professor Rodas' class did I get to really understand the concepts behind Math. He is a great teacher who wants his students to learn "how to think". He is very inspirational & wants nothing but the best for his students. As a student who relentlessly desires to know the "why?", I appreciate his patience & willing to work with me.
The class was the hardest I've taken which is justified, however the professor was the best I've taken. Expect 3-5 hours of homework each DAY, if you want a good grade. Best professor I've taken to teach me math, but is too tough of a grader. Takes out points if you don't do it his way. Really kind though.
Professor Rodas has to be one of the best math teachers at SMC! He makes calculus concepts much easier to understand and has clear/detailed lectures. Exams are almost identical to the textbook homework problems he assigns. You definitely have to work for the A but it is very possible with hard work! Super energetic and pleasant! Miss him already!
This class was insanely hard. The professor degrades his students. If a student asks a question he speaks to them like they are dumb. He is not caring in any way and does not try to help his students pass. There is lots of homework and he grades tests very hard. He docks multiple points for the smallest mistakes. Don't take if you are not a genius.
He is very nice when I took his math11 during the winter session. His exams are very fair and quizzes are helpful. I should probably get a B but it was a surprise because of his generosity on grading so I got an A.
Professor Rodas was so kind and helpful throughout the online class. If you participate and go to his office hours you should have no problem. He likes to see students putting in the extra time to learn the material. Probably learned the most I've ever have in an online class. Would recommend if your are willing to actively participate.
Rodas is an amazing professor. He is very flamboyant and engages with the class on a personal level. He also makes the class very interesting with his personality, I love it! BUT his classes are very intense. A lot of homework and grade is mostly evaluated on exams. MAKE sure to not fall behind the first two months, or you might as well withdraw
This class is a gem. I failed this class a couple of times intentionally because most professors couldn't explain this material well, so they would just copy-paste the textbook. But in his lecture, it's even hard for me to get distracted b/c no single word is bs. Definitely not a lenient grader but fair enough.
Such a great class! He's lectures were very thorough. There was a lot of homework, but he was also very available after class. He wants every student to do well! He was lenient in grading and as long as you participate and go to office hours, he will make sure you do well.
Professor Rodas really wants all his students to succeed and do well, and his personality really brings the class to life! There is a lot of homework, and his class is fast-paced, so it's important not to fall behind. Even though his class can be intense, if you don't understand something he is always willing to explain a difficult concept.
Actually my favorite math professor ever. I had him for precalc and calc and I would take him again and again. Definitely not an easy class but he makes it interesting and easy to pay attention.
Took math 11 in winter. Super fast-paced, tons of homework each day. But thank god prof Rodas is really great at lecturing, explaining difficult concepts and giving clear instructions on how to solve problems. Exam problems are similar to those in lecture notes and homework. So take notes, do all the assignments, and you should be fine.
Not the best teacher for Math 7. He is very lectured based and makes fun of you when you ask questions. Also does a lot of questioning on your ability to do math.
Everyone might not get his sense of humor and that's ok. He is an amazing prof who cares about the well being and success of his students. It is a hard class with a lot of work but he will be there to support you for sure! Make sure to attend lectures, keep up with hw and any problems that he goes over in class/guides. Fall 23
Mr. Rodas is an amazing professor. He always ca
Amazing prof. Easy A if you do your homework.
Prof Rodas is an great lecturer. Calc2 is a challenging subject but his lectures are excellent and he is very open to answering his student's questions. A very fair grader, completing the HW is essential to earning an A on the exams. Beware of the pop quizzes so that it doesn't hurt your grade. 95+ on exams is possible if you put in the work
Professor Rodas' class is challenging, but using resources like unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook helped me stay on track. Tough grading, but engaging lectures make it worthwhile.
Before you look at any of these reviews for any mathematic professor realize that you simply can't get an easy A in any Calculus classes unless you have previously taken them. Rodas truly cares and helped me countless of times outside the classroom. He does an exceptional job going over material and gives out great notes, no words can lyk, take him!
He truly cares. He is ready to discuss the lesson outside the class as many times as needed. Never gets frustrated, and always keeps himself and the class in an upbeat and excited mood. The tests and quizzes ask for minimal understanding of the topics and do not contain overcomplicated examples. NO ONLINE HOMEWORK. The best math prof at smc.
Of course Math 11 is a difficult course, but this professor makes it more difficult with his rude attitude and lack of patience with students. He rushes through problems and is unprofessional during office hours and over email.
there was too much hw in this class, ATLEAST 25 questions per day. He seems like a cool person but man this class felt very rushed, we often did multiple lesson a day. quizzes almost every week. Felt like a high school class meaning no phones, no getting distracted, and show up on time or else he will talk to you or call you out in class.
Took Rodas over winter, tons of HW but you can tell he really cares for his students. This is THE math prof to have if you are vying for an A.
He goes through lectures very fast, doesn't do well on clarifying what homework is, and doesn't focus much on helping students when they have issues.
I love Brian Rodas. Genuinely the best and most competent professor in the SMC math department. He's hilarious and candid. He gives worksheet and review packets. He teaches like a high school teacher. Hes responds to emails within the hour. Put in the damn work. If are looking for a teacher from whom you are going to learn, CHOSE HIM.
I took this class in the winter so it was definitely difficult! Professor Rodas is an amazing lecturer and really funny. There was a lot of homework, but it really helps prepare you for the exams. The class isn't easy, but he really cares for his students.
If you are late for even 1 minute, he will not let you take the quiz. He does that on purpose.
