He may be one of the easy teacher for econ. at UC Davis if you study!! Through he might left for more money else where :(
A nice laid back teaching approach. He wasn't the most organized professor. Would often change his lecture slides in the middle. However, his tests were easy enough if you studied. I would recommend him.
Lectures off slides which are posted online so no need to go to class. Boring, but exams are easy. Opprotunities to earn extra credit.
No need to go to lectures at all. Notes are always posted online. Never been to one lecture and still got an A. Heard the lecture is boring though. Great to take a nap.
easy with homework and such as. But the second and third exams are killer
Nice guy, dry humor. Obviously hates Compaq computers, or whatever his laptop was! The curve is hopefully really generous, homeworks are hard, it's kinda of impossible to get a check plus. The exams are hard too, crazy graphs!! good teacher though
FINAL WAS DRASTICALLY HARD, CURVE IS NOT THAT HELPFUL! SEEMS LIKE A NICE GUY. OUR TA WAS MORE HELPFUL THOUGH
Good teacher in general, however lecture is often dificult to follow, stays true to his powerpoint slides though. Tests are not dificult if you study, strong emphasis on graphs.
He rushed through a lot of material, but still expected us to know it for the final. He uses powerpoint slides from the book out of laziness.
I really enjoyed his class. You don't even need to read the book if you memorize the notes and do the hw. He has an odd sense of humor that I will miss.
Lectures directly from notes and misguides you in exam aside from HW Probnem Sets. Multiple choice questions are not what he tells you to study for. Take this only if you're ready to study on your own.
he seemed very nice but he was very unclear, just showed us powerpoint slides and his examples were nothing like what were on his tests. I basically taught myself the material from the book. his TAs were horrible too.
dont bother studying homework or lectures. the tests have nothing in common with them. incredibly bad teacher, incredibly unfair tests.
He is not a very good teacher. His tests aren't anything like what we do in class. Gives us no practice problems and expects us to know difficult Math without teaching. Poor teacher!
Horrible teacher. You can attend all the lectures you want, memorize it, understand it and still do horrible on the exams. What he teaches is not what is on the exam. He makes us do Aplia but to pay $20 to do homework assignments which you haven't been taught to do yet? The TA tries his best though.
very very bad. tests do not resemble homework. homework does not resemble lecture. lecture does not resemble tests. save yourself the stress and agony.
come on, you guys, quit whining. This is econ, expect to do math. Best econ teacher except for Constantine. Take this teacher, he is funny, and uses many examples. Quizzes just like test. Easy B, read the book, easy A.
Is disorganized, boring, doesn't seem to know the material very well and to top things off his tests are hard and he fails to give you adequate time to finish them. Take him only if you want to see the embodiment of a "HORRIBLE TEACHER".
ok, the class that i took was at 8am in the morning so not too many students showed up. because i came to class every day and went to a few of his office hrs, he liked me that totally helped my grade. the tests are hard and the lectures are boring but there's not much you can do about it.
This is class was crap. I read the book and went to every discussion and to most of the lectures (8am class) and still did poorly on the midterms. The Aplia problem sets don't resemble any of his tests. He doesn't give sample midterms or finals. He is a really bad teacher. Don't take this class!
This class was ridiculous. Rosario's homeworks were pointless. His lectures don't relate to the homework due for that week at all. We spent 2 weeks going over one subject and it wasn't even on the midterm. His lectures are the most boring I have ever had at UC Davis. Find someone else!
Worst professor ever! I wanted to band my head against my desk every time I came to class until I would blackout and enter sweet oblivion. The homework is pointless, his lectures cover the easiest parts of the book, the tests are disproportionately difficult. WORST PROF EVER!!!
i didn't think his lecture was too horrible, i mean it was at 8 am... not much you can do about that, if you can pull your own weight and be responsible the class is a piece of cake and pretty self explanatory...
Worst econ teacher i've got. Hw problems don't relate to the test, even TA more helpful than he is. Lectures boring, and test very hard, dun take his class
he doesn't always know what he's talking about but still manages to blow smoke out of his a**. his english sucks booty & his humor is boo boo. i didn't learn jack squat from his class cause his hw questions are extremo hard and not explained during class. the last week of class is the worse...beware
Not a very good lecturer. They were boring and a lot of the information needed for the tests had to be read in the book. His lecture notes are easy to understand though. The tests are east if you have study what is in the book and have gone to your discussion classes.
ugh. horrible lectures. so boring. i don't think there was one lecture that i didn't fall asleep in. basically just study off the book and do the hw and you should be fine. not the best econ teacher at davis but you can tell he tried.
His boring lectures are often fault of the subject, since the class is pretty much all review. Tests are pretty standard, and everything is on a curve anyway. Online homework is tedious but easy.
Please don't take him.
This guy was great for this class. He came prepared each day for lecture. In general, lectures were clear and organized. His homeworks are timeconsuming but helpful and tests are straightforward.Exams are not to trick you and as long as you understand lecture and read the textbook, you'll do just fine.
This guy rocks! Has a great sense of humor, and really takes the time to get to know the students. He makes the material much more simple and easy to understand and is very helpful in office hours. I took the class in Spring 2004, and the reader for the class graded fairly and curved well.
boo! don't take him for ecn. he doesn't even make his lecture material! his jokes are lame. the hw is so not related to the exams. i didn't learn anything from him or his TA. very redundant and doesn't explain concepts properly. tests are totally different from lecture and hw. don't take him...!
Brian is not very professional! His jokes are lame and when he talks about econ you understand why a person with a PhD is a lecturer and not a tiny bit more- he has no class. The TA's were fine, but not very helpful. Their favorite responses- IT DEPENDS! This class was stressful and NO FUN!
Didn't learn jack squat! This class sucks-BOO! HW is random and the TA's speak zero english, but everyone in his entourage likes to show off! (not because they are smart, but becasue they know all the answers ahead of time!!!) AVOID at all costs and you will save yourself a lot of headache.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS! Rosario is such a bad lecturer. He doesn't explane JACK! The tests are very difficult if youre not a math person. Also, his TAs are absolutley incompetent. No help whatsoever. Made me hate econ. Boo!
yeah..i hate how he goes off topic 9/10 times in class..tests really suck..but you gotta give the guy credit for a good personality and good attitude..Take Jason as your TA..he's good
Both ridiculously easy classes - no need to goto lecture or discussion. If you read the book and go over lecture notes online the tests are a BREEZE. A pretty informative class (I've never taken econ before) and Rosario is a pretty chill - had him for honors discussion also. The math is EASY (simple 7th grade pre-algebra), nothing to worry about
Easy if you go to lectures and discusion. He tries to be funny but he's not which makes him funny.
lectures are extremely boring...tries to crack jokes but isnt funny at all...tests are kind of hard...people fall asleep and leave during lecture so he usually lets class out early...book is extremely expensive
Lectures were okay. Learned the jist of it in lecture and the TA, Jason, clarified it much better in discussion. Jokes are lame but at least he tries to lighten the mood in class instead of just having a monotone lecture. The math isn't hard; I failed Math 16A twice and I'm saying the math here isn't hard, think about it.
Very easy class! I read the book, only went to half the lectures, and one discussion section and got an A. Just read and you'll do fine! One word of advice: Spend time making sure your homework is correct, the assignments are easy, but they count as much as your midterms so your score can hurt your grade, even with A's on all your exams!
Learn how to teach! Terrible lecturer and quite unhelpful out of class. Uses powerpoint, so u never have time to take notes. Although the slides are thorough, there's a lot more on the exams than he covers in lecture. Never gives example problems, only stupid scenarios relating to pizza. Speaks to left half of room only and no final review session.
Required class, lectures are a waste of time, but you should go because it's impossible to study from the aplia hw, practice exams & answers have mistakes so don't try cramming at the last second, b/c those practice exams don't help, they'll just leave you confused. Probably should go to discussion. I hate his voice.
easy class, no need to go to lecture, just read over the posted power point presentations. nice guy, kinda dorky. TA's are very helpful...just read the book for key points and examples.
Boring lecture and horrible jokes. I found the lectures to be pointless. Thank god I had a very good TA. I learned almost everything from section.
If you are in need of ECN 1B, I highly encourage you to search elsewhere for an instructor. Rosario lectures in a hall of about 350 and doesn't use a mircrophone. His jokes, if you can hear them, are senseless and his lectures consist of him reading the powerpoint slides. Going to lecture won't help you on the tests. Final words-thank God for TAs.
Terrible teacher. Reads straight off the notes that he posts online so lecture is pointless. Gives the same examples he gives online. Unhelpful when you go to him personally. The TA's will save you when taking his class. Tries to trick you on his exams. Do not take this man

While Rosario's lecture is powerpoint based, he DOES give good examples and useful testing information (read: go to lecture). Topics not covered in lecture are covered in discussion. I got an A in the class, and without a ton of effort. Don't listen to these other kids, unless you are the type of student who expects an A to be handed to you.

all based on his power point slides, strongly suggest you to take this class with some other professor, test seems easy when you take it but you'll be surprised when you get the results back

By far the worst teacher i have had at UCD. Reads off his power point slides in this monotone that would put the most energetic person to sleep. His tests aren't hard but he often comes to class late so you have less time to finish them. Was very unhelpful in office hours(was more concerned about his fantasy football team to care to answer my quest
This is the worse teacher. i would not recommed anyone to take him. By far, his lecture and the sample tests are useless. It didn't help me at all on the studying. He always use the examples right of from the book. It really hard to understand him. The tests are very tricking b/c of the way he word it. The grading part was not fair.
GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. He may seem stand offish but he will try to help you if you seem like your really trying to understand the material. You have to go to class, you won't be able to understand the material with just printing out the notes. Do the problem sets, he mainly writes them himself so you can get used to the way he words questions.
Very unhelpful and not accomadating. Draws a mess of graphs in lecture. His performance is reflected in the low numbers of kids who show up to lecture
relatively easy class (compared w/ 101 & 102). Lots of things are just reviewed or directly drawn upon from econ 001. Just do the homework, read the stuff over, and you'll do well.
i thought he was a great teacher, tests weren't that bad at all... interested in lectures... makes some funny jokes... really not that hard... looking to take his upper division class
He is not as bad as his ratings suggest. Tests are not too bad, either. Sometimes goes a little overboard with the jokes, but a few are pretty funny.
Rosario is a fairly good prof in my opinion, 1st midterm was really easy, 2nd one was much more difficult, definitely read notes and book if time allows. He is a pretty funny guy and he makes his lectures quite interesting using real world situations. TAs are pretty helpful as they review what was taught in lecture. Overall, pretty good class.
teaches very well, but midterm is based on book. DOnt really need to go to class, just read book. Very unhelpful in office hours. He was reading the ESPN website while me and 3 other people were in his office hours. I asked him if he was a sports fan and he said no, hes just bored. Grading scale blows though, bottom 20 percent has to fail.
DO NOT.. Listen to me DO NOT take this class.. he's boring, and his style of teaching is worse... he doesn't know how to teach.. avoid him if possible.. otherwise good luck..
bad class to take. hard class to take. notes are online for a while but then they are gone. not that great a teacher. take 1b first, take 1b!!
I've never done well in his class. The most effecient teaching you'll get is from the TA's who hate you anyhow for distracting them from their research. The davis econ department is kind of a sad situation all together. Those of you with the major, i suggest you jump off this sinking ship while you can.
His midterm 1 was easy. I got a perfect on it. Second midterm was a bit harder but was doable. The TAs were very lenient in grading the midterms. The final was really hard and put me down to A-. Do homeworks, read book and lecture slides and you'll be fine.
Tries to joke a little bit, not the most boring teacher I've had. Super easy tests but then harsh curve so you may not end up with the grade you earned. Not the best professor but definitely a doable class.
So easy. His lectures are word for word with his tests. He posts his lectures online. I took it with 6 of my friends last winter and we're not the brightest students at davis but we all ended up with above a 95% with minimal effort. If you liked playing connect the dots as a little child and were good at it, you'll like this class and do well.
My first impressions were bad because he seemed rude but he is so funny! He is awesome, I enjoyed the class but I am pretty good at econ, I'm not sure if everyone else is able to understand when he is not clear. Lectures are important!
Great teacher. Makes economics pretty easy to learn. But the HW system APLIA is a horrible HW grading system. Harsh curve makes the class suck a bit, but there's nothing you can do except for study. Recommended.
rosario's jokes keep me awake in class. (even though it's not the funniest) reading is important and so is lecture. discussion helps clarify things a lot. DO THE practice exams.
He tries to be funny, but he ends up sounding cynical about the world - by far his best quality. Teaching is not his forte. Explaining economic concepts took a back burner to leaving early to watch American Idol or complaining about his salary. However, the tests were written as though he had actually explained things in class.
Brian Rosario is one of the worst economics professors at UC Davis. His lectures are unclear and boring, his homework is done online and costs you an extra $20 to register with the website, and more importantly the homework doesn't prepare you at all for the exams. I highly recommend NOT taking him, take another professor like Miyanishi.
His lectures are pointless and boring. His tests are very hard. You need to basically memorize the book if you want to do well on the tests. Plus,I paid and extra 60 bucks just to do homework for his class through Aplia. HOmework did not help with the tests very much. Over half of the class never go to lecture. Do NOT take ROSARIO!!
People need to cut this guy some slack. He's definitely not the best professor, however he's fair. Attendance is extremely beneficial since he draws many of his exam questions from examples he goes over during class. The aplia homework was pretty useless but at least was easy.
He isn't that bad. Give him a break. I got a C. I took the class my first quarter freshman year, (which i don't recommend!) The TA was VERY helpful and they loved helping. I had a 25% in online hw which butchered my grade.. KEEP UP WITH IT! Wasn't mandatory to buy a textbook. Going to lecture was beneficial.
I liked Rosario's class, I thought it was pretty easy. Homework was part of your grade which was a good thing cause it boosted my grade in the end. Midterms and exams were reasonable and fairly easy.
His class was boring and unneccessary. Exams were reasonable and fairly easy. I didn't study much for the exams and I still passed with an A-. Everything is pretty much self-explanatory when it comes to econ.
He was a good teacher. I thought he was pretty funny and his lectures were easy to follow. Based on his rating on this website, i'd say he's overall an underrated professor.
He's a great lecturer and it's obvious he knows what he's doing. The examples were original but helpful in lectures and the tests were pretty easy if you pay attention in class. Sections are useless though except after the midterms. The textbook was very useful in my opinion but you had to take the initiative to use it.
Brian is not lecture-type material. Lectures were pretty meaningless. You can just do everything based on the textbook. You need to pay 70$ for Aplia to do HW, but it does help your grade and understanding of the material. MTs are part multiple choice, and part free response. Final is like MT, but double the problems. This prof; not recommended.
Aplia is 70 bucks, on top of paying for a textbook, so this course is pretty expensive to take. On top of it being expensive, it was not an easy A, so I would recommend a different econ professor if you can to avoid the Aplia fee.
Rosario is a harsh grader. His grading distribution is very strict. You will probably end up with a grade lower than you expected. His first exam is easy. The second exam and final exam are harder because the multiple choice sections. He did give homework assignments. His lectures are straight off the powerpoint slides. He is not organized at all.
Professor Rosario was a great teacher to take Microeconomics from as he made it a really easy subject to understand... the thing is you actually have to do the work! imagine that! If you do the work he is always willing to help and answer questions after hours if you need help. Over all I would give him an A+ as a teacher
GREAT ECON1A PROF. People need to cut him a break and stop crying about their grade b/c the Econ department is responsible, not him. Crystal clear in lectures, the book is helpful, and Aplia is wonderful (despite the cost). If the first test is easy, he tends to make them harder. I like that b/c it separates the good students from the bad. TAKE HIM
He's really not a bad prof. His lectures may be boring at times, but he uses clear examples and the subject is pretty straightforward to begin with. The exams weren't difficult if you understand the homework (which was mandatory). The class does come with a rather strict grading curve, but that has less to do with him than the Econ department's.
Rosario is a nice guy and the curve seemed to me to be fair. This summer he changed the book and it includes the online program-myeconlab. Still expensive but not too bad. The book is wordy, but the online study plan is helpful. If you go to class and do your homework, you'll pass. And he is really helpful if you talk to him.
He gets all his lectures from the slides so you don't have to attend class. He has online homework and his tests gets harder as time goes on. His final exam was definitely harder than I expected. Overall, if you just read the book and do the homework you should do fine in the class.
His teaching method was okay but I rather crack open the book and read the chapters because it was more informative and understandable.
Awesome teacher. Great lectures, clear and inspirational. Very good examples from real world. Exams are not easy, but if you try you will do fine.
Had this professor for two semesters, both macro and micro, and I can say that he is one of the best professors I've had. Show up on time, DO THE HW, be respectful, study for the exams and you'll do fine. Gives hilarious but relevant life stories to help give the lecture material a bit of life. Would recommend this professor for any econ class.
He curves! Like huge curves, so bank on that. Make sure you show up to class and do the hw, he teaches you the material that's on the exams. He's funny and easy going so do your work and try your best and just hope your class is full of idiots.
He is one of the BEST PROFESSOR I met in UC DavisHis lecture was extremely clear and understandable without any other tricky things. His homework was also REALLY helpfulnot hardand VERY beneficial to the examsAfter this summerI did not get the ace but I still got the best Econ class grade so far. Alsohis TAs are so NICE on grading
the lectures are so confusing, i wonder if he really understands what he was talking about. Some of the homework questions are irrelevant to the lecture and some are the things he has not taught us, so i spend lots of time googling and reading the textbook.
Dont take his class!!! The worst professor I met.
Honestly, his tests are not that hard, if you have quizlet by your side. However, you probably wont learn as much. He is a bit unorganized and boring. But with that being said, he is not as bad as most people claimed, at least for ECN100A. You will probably ended up teaching yourself if you take him. Thankfully, our T.A. was great. Good luck.
He's a great teacher! His lectures are really interesting, but his tests are very difficult. If you don't like coming to class, you will not get an A. Don't worry if you don't do well on the tests, just focus on the online homework and quizzes, and do ALL of the extra credit opportunities, and you'll do well. I got 70s on all my tests, and got an A
Funny guy but he doesn't post slides/notes so you have to show up to class. All lecture is done on whiteboard. He says textbook is required but if you show up to class you should be good. Tests were overall fair but you have to study a lot.
He is really humor, and he uses a lot of personal experiences in class. Although he does not post slides online, lectures are clear and easy to follow. HW only count 5% of the overall grade and you will not spend too much time on it. Exams are overall fair, but I think he did not curve too much. Overall, I recommend this prof.
He is a good professor. He knows the stuff well and has a lot of experience on it. He uses many interesting stories for us to better understand the materials. He knows how to explain difficult materials in a easier way. TA and professor work very efficiently because the hw and exams are graded super quickly. And professor posts each hw on time.
The free response portions of his exams are brutal, but the multiple choice is relatively easy if you do the practice exams. He does his lectures on the whiteboard so it is important to attend and take very good notes. His curve is pretty minimal so don't depend on it.
Okay professor, but does not really care about his students. Barely any curve in the class and I ended up with a C even though I was above the mean every single test. Does his own weird curve that doesnt follow the regular Econ classes at UC Davis. If you dont show up to class, good luck because he doesnt post any notes online.
SS1- online: Avoid this guy, he is not suited to be a professor at all. His lecture videos have been a complete mess. He skips over slides, leaving gaps in explaining stuff throughly. He doesnt write his exams based on what is taught in lectures. He is not a fair professor and does not care about his students.
He is not a bad professor. At first, I was wary of him due to his style of teaching, however, everything he taught us was on the tests. It is also up to study as he does not post his notes. SO MAKE SURE TO TAKE GOOD NOTES!
CC profs are elite. Brian is great at teaching, curves generously, and tells jokes so I rarely fall asleep in lecture. Does his best to help everyone pass.
Brian is a funny prof who keeps lectures engaging. While he doesn't post slides, attending class and taking good notes is key. The exams are fair if you study hard using the textbook and resources like unstuck AI. Overall, a solid class if you put in the work.
Just Run! If you have other options, don't pick him. He basically reads slides, and many exam questions were never covered. Midterm is 30% and final a shocking 60%, making it almost impossible to score an A. Classes only cover about 2/3 of the content. Save yourself the pain and avoid this class(with this professor!
idk, its just reading powerpoint and self taught most of the time, test was extremely hard, the part being teached wasn't being mainly tested and the part being tested was taught in class.
