this professor is totally not prepared with the lectures.. he always get corrected by his students. he's not HOT and very dependent with his "little book" .... anyways no notebook no class! hoooray! for you guys! if someone have his class try stealing it and burning it!!! have fun!
Had him as a Lab TA and he was always around to help and answer any questions you have. His labs weren't always well prepared, but at least he was there to teach (not like most TA's).
He is THE BEST LAB Prof. He is awesome. I stayed after class with him for hours, and he was smiling and laughing. He really wants to teach. I hated the lab, but that would have been true even if a supermodle was teaching it naked.
Brian is a very good teacher. He is always willing to go back and explain the material if any student has a problem. He is very approachable and I would recommend him to any future students.
something about this teacher .. makes him real cute but besides that.. he is a GREAT teacher, my second time taking chem 110 i had ozkan before and i dropped it. He explains everything soo well and his quizes are easy but his test are kind of hard. depends if you read his notes before.. but if you are visual like myself TAKE HIM GREAT GUY!
if you watch the food network show and is familiar with alton brown.. MR SCHMITT IS JUST LIKE HIM... he explains things very clearly step by step, and if you dont understand... well he will explain it to you till you do.. haha.. GREAT teacher HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.. if you are already familiar with chem then other teachers will do
I love this TEACHER!
nice teacher..very helpful!
Good Class. Easiest chem class I've had. He is very approachable.
I totally love this teacher & recommend taking him for lab as well as lecture. His tests can be a little difficult, but if you do your homework problems(not mandatory) then you will do fine. He is an awesome instructor!
Havent taken chemistry in 15 yrs. Was able to understand and pass with a B. Highly recommend him. Important to take him for your lab too. All you need is his notes in lecture. Use the book only if you need more clarity & practice. Homework not mandatory or collected.Grading is very fair. Gives partial credit. Attendance not mandatory, but advised.
Brian was great. Super helpful and has amazing patience (gives opportunities for extra credit too). I had him for lecture and lab...couldn't have asked for a better experience. He is able to relate to the students and you get the feeling that he actually cares about your success.
Awesome instructor. Very clear at explaining 90 percent of material. Although the tests get harder through the semester. TAKE HIM! Do all the homework problems and the tests should be easy And he is cute in his own little way.
The best of the best. If you have'em, you are lucky. He is the best and funny. He knows his subject very well, organized too. A lot of extera credit, well, if you want it. He calles it "mock test'' for thos crdts. No multiple choices unless the mock test. All quizes and exams are work out.
....continued from below comments. Eventhough all work out, Don't worry all you need is his notes along with examples. But don't forget to do his assigned problems located at the end of each chapter. The problems will help you to prepared for his exame incase of different quations from his example. If you do this..It is easy to have A which I have.
To all of that read the comments below...I am really sorry but it supposed to be chem110, not chem111.
He knows what he is teaching. Very helpful. Very Clear. Very good lab instructor. Definitely recommend him.
He is a great teacher. Really helpful and will always help if you need it. Really nice and knows what he is talking about!
HE WAS THE BEST TEACHER.!!! HE IS SO ORGANIZED UNLIKE OTHER TEACHERS AND IS SUPER NICE. HE TEACHES YOU LIKE YOU'RE A STUDENT AND NOT IN A HIGH LEVEL CLASS. HE IS VERY HUMBLE IS NOT LIKE OTHER PROFESSORS THAT ACT LIKE THEY ARE SO MUCH BETTER THEN A STUDENT. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM, WISH HE WAS TEACHING CHEM 111.
He really tries to get you to understand the material, and he uses so many examples to do so. His passion for Chem really helps to. He also tries his hardest to get you to do well in the course.
He is a very good teacher! Take him if you want to get a good grade:)not easy, but if you study, should not have any problems
Very average instructor. Some exams were a piece of cake, others were outlandishly difficult and they were too lengthy to complete in the test time allowance. I think you can find a better instructor.
Awesome teacher. Makes learning and understanding the subject easier. It is a hard subject, but as long as you take notes and read them you will be fine. He has a lot of extra help and extra credit to help with the grade.
His classes are good, but he just teach very simple things in class. When it comes to exams he put stuff that he has not explained before and you have to figure out. Very difficult exams. He speaks way too fast even for native Americans to understand. He makes too hard and it does not have to be that way. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
The instructor does not care if the student pass or not. His exam is hard , nothing like he shows in the class. His way of grading is awful. Ex. A question is worth 8pts. There 3 correct ans and you got 2 right out of 3. He will give you only 3 points out of 8? Plus if you ask him a question, he'll throw it back to you but the ans. Do not take him
Great lab prof. w/ that said, horrible lecture prof. Will teach easy concept but test you on hardest material and makes it worth 30 points of your grade. his review is nothing like the exam and will not throw out a question even though the whole class got it wrong. And if you ask him a question, don't expect a direct answer
Tests and quizzes worth so many points no room for error. One question wrong and your down 20%, he sets you up for failure, lecture seems straight forward and simple (its not) if studied but exams are so hard he does not show you how to use what he teaches. Textbook was useless and confusion, he is nice but thats it33
Exams are 4-5 levels higher in difficultly than what is taught in Lec. Can have a standing A in lab and all other aspects of Lec but still only get C+ or lower on exams. Prof has no problems tanking GPA's and will set students up for failure without a second thought. NOT WORTH TAKING IF GPA means anything.
generally all science professors are tough, but his tests are ridiculous. He sets it up so that if you miss certain questions, you fail the test. Its insane. Example 20 question test.... 15 of those questions are worth one point, then he throws in 4 worth 16 pts each and one worth 21 pts. questions are not clear.
This class was the most challenging class I've ever taken where no matter how hard I tried, I still had to try harder to even come out with a B+. Professor Schmidt gives a lot of room for extra credit, but make no mistake, you will still have to put in the time for that too. He is a reasonable, very helpful, attentive instructor. Def take again.
Very good professor class is a bit hard if you weren't to study, but studying makes it a lot easier, he is very clear and low key he is kinda cute
He is a great professor and his test are okay ,not hard if you study.. your grade is basically based on how much time you study. But I really do recommend taking him plus he is cute ..
Professor Schmidt is a great professor and is very clear on his syllabus how you will be graded throughout the course. I also had him for lab, But he is an excellent lecture professor, gives you clear notes and examples of what will be in future exams. As long as you put in time and effort in this class, you will be in good hands with Prof Schimdt.
Professor Schmidt is an amazing professor! I had him for both lecture and lab. He makes it clear what the grading criteria is and grades exams and homework assignments fast. His notes are clear and well explained. Also, tests are easy to prepare for because he posts old tests and also gives mock tests! Great professor overall! Would take again!
Professor Schmidt is awesome he makes chem fun. Subject matter is tough so are the tests. lot of math involved. Just study and do the work. Worst part about this class was the online homework bc was hard to figure out how to do some of the problems in it. Homework was a regular complaint throughout the entire class.
He's an okay-professor. His lecture is alright. Notes taken in class is clear, but when it comes to exams, it's very difficult!! I wish he provided formulas on exams. He doesn't need to give us the answers, just formulas so we know what to plug in. There's so much to remember! He's not much of a help. :( so I suggest u make friendsstudy group
Prof. Schmidt is clear and thorough on the concepts presented in the course. However, you REALLY need to know dimensional analysis in order to succeed, so I highly recommend reading up on it outside of class. Without a very good handle on it, you will do poorly on the tests, no matter how well you know the material.
He's a tough grader, but he's fair. Make sure to study for the quizzes that he gives out prior to each lab. DON'T purchase the lab notebook, most of the worksheets are on canvas. Go to the library and check out the lab notebooks when specific worksheets are not on-line.
I took this class over summer and he was an amazing teacher. Very well organized, funny, and prepares you for the exams. There were 4 exams and one final. I would love to take him for all my chemistry classes.
Lectures are clear, never enough examples, you DO have to read the text to stay on top of your grade because of lack of examples. Definitely do the opt. h/w, study like your life depends on it, and never expect the tests to look like the practice extra credit tests. EVER. Most test questions will be from things you didn't get enough notes on.
Hard class and you really have to study. But a good teacher who goes over the material well. As long as you supplement with book questions and actually try you will get a good grade!
He gives 4 exams: 3 exams and 1 cumulative. He gives worksheets every after the chapter and online assignments. He gives mock tests before the exams that serve as extra credits. He discusses very well and explains things thoroughly. He is very helpful too if you have any questions. I would take him again for my future chem classes.
Ew!!!! I hate his teachings! HATE it HATE it HATE it! He acts kind of cocky and a little bit too serious. I've never saw this dude smile, ever. I would not recommend him. His class is hard. His tests have questions that were not even covered in class. So whatever he teaches in lecture isn't enough! You have to go beyond that. Please DONT TAKE HIM
tests covered a minimal portion of the notes/lectures. Don't rely on mock exams, quizzes, past exams to help out on the exams he provides. Professor was dismissive during lec. Don't expect to have grade rounded either. Not enough time for the amount of work on exams. Get two answers right on one question, miss one, you will get 2/15 Pts. Not easy.
This professor is unwilling to work with students. Beware.
Professor Schmidt was a really good teacher. His tests are hard but if you study for them, you will do find. I had him for lecture and lab which helped a lot if i had any questions about mock tests or lab questions. He gives out a lot of extra credit so keep up with it because at the end of the semester it will pay off
You have to read your lab and be ready for the pre-lab quiz, but if you have any questions during lab he actually helps you quite a lot. He clearly answers your questions and overlooks your projects if you think your messed up. The vents are really loud so he kinda gets drowned out if you sit near the back.
Chem seemed daunting/scary in the beginning. Professor Schmidt, was very thorough/easy to understand. DO THE HOMEWORK/PRACTICE EXAMS/ETC. I left lectures inspired to learn more. Very caring/patient/funny. Thankful I had him as my 1st CHEM Prof @ CSN. Provides strong foundation for follow on courses. Never EVER thought I'd do as well as I did.
I struggled heavily with this class. Ochem is already a hard subject to begin with. Schmidt gives weekly chapter tests, resulting in a total of 11 tests for the semester which totally killed my grade. If you take this class, you just have to prepared to study every day for his class. On the bright side, he is super nice & very helpful.
There are 11 total test worth 50 points each and a final worth 200. Almost of the tests are cumulative so make sure to study all of your notes. He only lectures on objectives that are relevant to the tests so always come to class. This class is all about conceptual MEMORIZATION problem solving. Do all the homework problems he suggest in the book.
Took his class for lab and lecture, 10 tests worth 40 points each. Study only what he gives you during class, TAKE GOOD/clear NOTES! Study and study, learn/memorize/understand each problem he gives out. Textbook is not needed although i bought it. He does give you extra credit, but you also have group assignments and post-lecture questions.
Honestly, one of the best Chem professors out there. He is extremely organized and does his lecture notes in a very structured manner. O Chem is brutal. Understanding that and being prepared is the best approach to the class. He was always there to help me when I needed it. Make notecards, do the book problems, and study hard and you will be fine.
Very good at explaining things but his tests are hard and so is the homework. There are no multiple choice questions on his tests so know what you need to know! He is a tough grader. There are mock tests that are worth 10 extra credit points that help a lot! He is great at teaching what he does and certainly knows his stuff. Would take him again.
I took Schmidt per the recommendation of a friend. I supplemented his lecture notes with Klein. His class is designed to correspond with Klein. He might not recommend it but you need to buy it if you want to make an A. This is a hard class. Study hard and you will do well.
I love him! He was very clear in what was to be done in lab and the lab reports weren't hard. Answers any questions you have and is always ready to help out with setting up a procedure and is very patient. I wish I could've taken him for lecture but he didn't teach one this semester. Definitely recommend him
The class itself isn't hard. He gives "homework" that isn't due, but it is great practice for the test/quizzes. His worksheets and quizzes are not hard. He is very helpful and explains topics very well. He gives practice exams that are almost identical to the actual exams. He also gives extra-credit.
Prof. Brian does not give any assignment generally and he does not give any homework as other students are saying. Do not skip class you won't pass. This class is very hard, more Math than Chem. His tests are so heavy and long, that half of his class fail to finish tests on time. No multiple choices ever, develop your answers and show your work.
The toughest grader among all chem teachers at CSN. His exams are extremely heavy. He will tell you before the exam: There are 10 or 12 questions in the exam, once you get the exam. There are 10 question, but question # 1 has 10 other question withing the question. His lectures are heavy, very well presented though. If u can take this class alone.
Dr Schmidt is great. I wish he taught more upper lvl chem classes. Exams are heavy- up to 7 Questions, but those 7 have multiple parts. More algebra than actual chemistry. Hard class, but he made it super straight forward and easy to understand. Go to class and study hard or you wont pass.
I took Professor Schmidt for CHEM 103 few semesters back. I recently found out he is teaching Chem 121 now. He makes the Exams hard so if you plan to take him Please study and prepare!. As a professor he has by far the most organized lectures any can take. He doesn't digress from one topic to another. He is highly outstanding and helpful!
Best Prof. Ive taken at CSN. You will need a decent algebra base going into CHEM 110 to be successful. 4 tests, 8-10 quizzes (announced in advance). He posted all the tests from the previous semester to study off of, he is not out to trick anybody. Any poor ratings here are likely just a dislike for the material. You should take his class.
The time limits for multiple-choice online materials (initially took this class in person, but COVID-19) are plain unreasonable. He will claim that these time limits prevent cheating, but I don't believe him for one second. If anything, it would fuel cheating out of desperation. He has also ignored my disability documentation multiple times.
I love professor Brian's teaching method and really like it this course. Wanna get professor for all of my classes! You'll like the Chemistry after you took it!
This was an 8 week summer class and it was accelerated as expected. Had online assignments in MasteringChemistry along with written homework and 3 exams. The amount of homework assigned was very reasonable and wasn't that hard. The exams only ranged from 13-18 questions, but took awhile to finish because some questions would have several parts.
You can definitely find a better teacher for this class. He's not a completely terrible teacher and at first I was doing well in his class but when COVID changed the class from in person to online he was not very understanding and it was extremely difficult. His in person timed quizzes were really hard. You have an assignment everyday quiz or hw.
I took Professor Schmidt's class online. He records his lectures, so no attend required. 12 chapters total, 3 exams, homework for each chapter. Don't be afraid to ask question. He even helps math equation problems. There are a lot study materials packed in each class, but as long as you put in your time and work, you can pass.
Prof. Schmidt is great at explaining all his lecture lessons. He records them and post them at Canvas, so you can always go back to watch it. There's homework due every week. LOTS of HOMEWORK!!! It's a good thing! He wants you to succeed by doing the homework, practicing, repeatedly .Exams are not that hard. He gives good feedback on HW & exams.
I have studied many professor and professor Brian is one of the best teacher I ever have. The material is a little difficult, but he makes it clear for you. If you take his class and work with him, you WILL UNDERSTAND all materials for all later other classes and pass the class. 3 exams, 12 chapters, and hw each chapter. TAKE HIM!!!
He's an okay professor. Not mandatory to attend online lectures, but you should attend to take notes. One HW assignment and quiz per chapter. Need the textbook for the homework questions. Sometimes he didn't explain stuff clearly, but he allows time at the beginning and end of lecture to answer any questions.
The classes! Refuses to record them, so take notes and start a study group so you can share! The textbook was not helpful, so his lectures were most of what you could go off of. Stickler for rules and format, so be careful of that. VERY tolerant of questions, so ask away, during and after class. How you treat him & his class is how he treats you.
His class was pretty average, but I felt like I didn't understand his lectures a lot of the time. He also tends to gloss over important things. His tests are fairly easy and are much easier than the homework. I hate MasteringChemistry so that made this class a bit more of a pain. The textbook is required since the homework is in the book.
He is wonderful, will make sure you understand the work in each lecture. Is very patient and will answer any and ALL questions until you understand. Chemistry is NOT easy. Dont expect to pass the class if you dont know what you are doing. But he is the most thorough and most helpful instructor Ive had in a while. Will def take him again.
He is a very kind and caring Professor. Chemistry itself is not easy but I found that he made it very easy to understand and get the hang of. He gave extra credit opportunities and is always very helpful with any and all confusion during his lectures or if you need to email him, he responds fast! I would absolutely recommend.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF TRUST ME! He didn't have any lectures from himself, just added us to Chem "tutoring" course where another, woman, teacher was teaching & she was always on a completely different lesson. He doesn't allow any late work & any minor mistake is completely wrong. Chemistry is extremely hard & he made it 10000 times worse.
The exams are nothing like the homework or anything you might have seen in the lecture
I took this course over the summer, so it was pretty fast-paced. Professor Schmidt is very caring and will answer any question you have. It was my first science class in a while so it might have been a little tougher, but going to as many SI sessions as you can really help!!
Chemistry is a difficult subject, but Professor Schmidt explains things thoroughly and is always willing to go over more examples for us when we ask for it. There are a pre-lecture quiz, homeworks and post-lecture quizzes due for every chapter, which seems like a lot, but is actually very helpful in understanding the information. Would take again!
Didnt like his test, you have 5 test over the entire semester with 40+ questions in 1 1/2 hours because the other portion is on lockdown so you have to login and out waste a crap ton of time. His extra credit was barely even enough. His assignments are easy but the test could have been way less questions so we dont have to panic. Not terrible
Very hard he gives 5 big test that have to be done in a certain amount of time as well as a lock down test that all has to be done within two hours which is very stressful. lots of homework and he is a really tough grader
Prof. Schmidt is a tough grader and the assignments are hard, but Chemistry is a hard subject. He does it to hold you accountable. He does a good job at explaining things, but you have to be extremely attentive; the lectures arent recorded, and they are extremely dense. Hes open to questions, and he posts an exam key after the exams to review.
extremely hard and inconsiderate teacher do not take him
Hard and rude professor doesnt explain things clearly at all dont take if you dont have to
very hard and unrealistic the only good thing is that he respond to e-mails fast
Doesnt round up grades
Chem 108 is a loaded class. His notes are helpful for quizzes and exams but the lectures go real quick and are not recorded . The first couple of exams is more of a time crunch so make sure to be ready. If you organize yourself well and attend SI you can easily pass the class. He is very strict on his rules and not very forgiving.
GREAT professor! Made me understand and love chem. I took multiple classes with him on purpose for those reasons. If you dont understand something and need some one on one he is available for office hours but to be honest, someone else might need clarification as well so ask. Highly recommend this professor but you do have to put in the effort.
Overall professor isnt the best, took test and wouldnt give you enough time were way more complicated than his actual homework and quizzes would ask for more time or shorter exams and wouldnt accept the fact his students were having a difficult time. Professors that make their students life more complicated shouldnt really be professors.
He responds to emails right away with questions and give an opportunity for extra credit to raise our grades. He invited students who are part of his online class to attend his live lectures, and I felt that extra class and interaction with him helped me understand and love chemistry. Ask questions and communicate clearly. Amazing Professor!!
This professor does a great job at teaching an online course that is already a difficult class (for most of us). I was able to take this class and keep up with the pace despite having an EXREMELY BUSY schedule. It helps that his lectures were not dull and he does give opportunities for extra credit. Overall, I would definitely take him again.
All you have to do is attend each videocall lecture and do his in-class quizzes that are present in some videocalls. He gives so many participation points. He is also easy to communicate with. But beware, his exams do open at a certain time and LOCK on canvas. Make sure you finish all the homework and weekly quizzes for that A.
Mr. Schmidt was a really nice person, but not the best teacher. He got off track of the schedule, so the labs were all things we had not yet learned, and we were still expected to do them. He didn't communicate his expectations for assignments very clearly, and expected us to read his mind. He also wasn't very good at answering questions or helping
Professor was okay. I took the online class but he would get off schedule so there would be material on the exams we had not learned yet. Super frustrating.
Professor Schmidt is not a kind person. He is very inconsiderate and does not care about any of your own personal circumstances that may affect your schoolwork, even if you reach out to him before hand. He doesn't take late work, no partial credit and his exams do not clearly state the specificity of how he wants the questions answered. No no no.
Professor Schmidt is not too bad of a professor. His online lectures are easy to follow and they are all recorded so you can view them later. Joining the lecture is not mandatory and he gives extra credit for attending. You will need to use the textbook, though, (which he gives a pdf to) for homework. Very strict no-late policy though so be aware.
If you see any bad reviews they're most likely not exaggerating. He's VERY!!!! strict with due dates. I took an online course and if you attended the live lectures (arnd 1hr20mins) he gave extra credit each month. I highly recommend attending because if you don't pay attention you'll have a tough time. 20 chapters each have a quiz and a homework.
The lectures are structured very well, and if you attend the online sessions he gives extra credit. the homework based not only on the lectures, but on the textbook too, so you have to read it. Exams can be tough, as the problems are with the twist.
Main complaint is along with the other reviews with his lack of regard for students' circumstances. I had asked once for an extension on a homework assignment due to my dad's passing and he showed no sensitivity to it (only 3 days after his passing). I had to justify to him why I needed the extension which should've been handled better by him.
TAKE HIM FOR CHEM 108! One HW assignment due each week with only ten questions. Exams are every 3 weeks, you have 80 minutes to complete, and they're usually 15-20 questions that require work shown. This class is very manageable not sure why he has 3.5/5 ratings. He also gives study guides and practice problems prior to exams! Overall I recommend!
Of course chemistry isn't an easy subject, but this guy makes it easy to understand. One homework due each week, and an exam due every 3 weeks. As long as you turn in your work ON TIME and do the extra credit he offers, you'll pass. Giving that this is a chemistry class, it was a pretty easy A!
2-4 hw assignments a wk, 2 wkly mandatory lectures or else you won't know what the exams are on, free online txtbook, 5 exams/1 final, responds to emails. Just beware that he does not care about life outside of his lecture times being that he does NOT provide recorded lectures for you to view later. I dislike that ALOT. Students scared to ask ?'s.
5 exams plus the final, 10% extra credit available for each exam. As easy an A as you can get for chem.
LOTS OF HW! some hw has 60 question!! 5 exams timed only get an hour 45 to complete each has a written portion. weekly adaptive quizzes. no mid-term but final worth 150 points. Hw and quizzes are done through achive and most of the time does not aline with the lecture but exams do.
He was an okay professor, he doesn't explain things fully sometimes, but if you ask questions or self study you'll be good. There is 1 homework and 1 quiz per chapter for 11 chapters. There are 5 exams, each exam has a practice exam worth 10 extra points. Attendance isn't mandatory but I recommend you attend. Overall, not bad but not great.
The class had lots of hw on the program and didn't even apply to the exams. There's 1-2 hw/quiz for each chapter and we would do 1-2 chapters/week. One time, the hw had 63 questions. It was a very fast-paced course in my opinion. If you're taking him and have online meetings, go to the meetings. Five exams and one final and were all proctored.
There was 5 exams that each cover 3 units and there was 1 final exam. There is a extra credit practice exam for every exam which I HIGHLY recommend doing as well as the hw since it's 25% of your grade. To pass, read the ebook and watch the lecture videos. If you can try to take this class in person bc on online it goes very fast!!
Overall a 8/10.16wk online. 5 exams 1 final. Homework&Quiz due every other Tue&Thur. Teams live lectures, his lectures are not recorded/saved to go back & review, does not provide a study guide for exams, he does allow index cards to be used on exam 5, uses RespondusLockdown, requires you to show work/take pic. Focus on lecture material for exams.
This professor sets every exam but the final to only open and close on Saturdays. Say goodbye to some of your weekends. Every exam is closed note and proctored via video recording, and you need to submit proof of scratch paper. He doesn't give as much extra credit as before, but some grades get dropped. If you can, please take someone else.
It is best to go to all of the online teams meetings because that is where notes are done. Notes are essential to understanding in this course and will be the information that is on the tests. The tests are proctored but as long as you know the information in the notes, you will pass the tests.
I don't understand the lower reviews for this guy. I took his class asynchronously via Teams, and it was solid. You really need to attend to do well, but his lectures are great and super informative, and he is always available for help if you reach out. His tests are TOUGH and there is a lot of homework, but you'll learn a LOT! I'd take him again.
Professor Schmidt has a structured teaching approach, but engaging with it pays off. The lectures, supplemented by the free textbook, are worthwhile. Utilize Unstuck ai, stay focused, and you'll succeed.
Don't let these reviews fool you. Quizzes, homework and exams do not follow his lectures. Be prepared to teach yourself the information. He's not nice & sure doesn't know how to teach basic chemistry. He purposely makes everything difficult. Only 2-3 classmates passed. He'll expect you to be a chemist and already know the information.
This professor isn't the worst I've met, but I'd like to argue that this class was my hardest one ever taken. The material was rough, and the homework/quizzes barely reflected the material on the exams. There's no study guide so you have to make an educated guess on what's on the exams. Even with all of my free time invested into this class...TT-TT
Feels like this class gets harder each year. Exams always been lecture heavy and way harder than necessary but lectures are not recorded anymore. 5 exams, the averages were 82, 59, 48, 47, & 58 this semester and he'd still say something like "I think the last exam went well"... um no. Although approachable, his method of teaching isn't the best.
Exams 50% of grade based only on lecture. Homeworks mostly unrelated to lecture and he will tell you to not worry about certain info but then it's on the homework. The book also does not help because it only shows chapters we learn in class. If you need to take him, stay the whole class, he does practice questions like in the exam at the end.
He was an okay professor. Not the best but not the worst. 6 exams total and a tough grader. Wouldn't let us use our own periodic tables during the exams and wouldn't provide any study guides or practice tests but was alright at teaching. You need to study heavily to pass the class. If you attend the lectures and study HARD, you'll most likely pass.
Took his web-remote class for this last semester and struggled. Exams are worth 50% of your grade in the class, and he will not explain what will be on the exam during lectures. After the final exam, my final grade was 69.89%, and he refused to help me with the last 0.11%. When he teaches, he goes very fast, not spending enough time on each topic.
I don't understand the bad reviews for Professor Schmidt. I used to struggle a lot in chem, but this class made it not so difficult. Lectures are not mandatory but it's better you attend in order to know what you will be tested on. He DOES provide practice tests and study guides for tests as well as formulas and a periodic table.
Took the remote section of this class. No study guides for the exams, homework didn't make sense since it's nothing like we learned. Uses a lockdown browser for the exams and you don't get any note sheets except for the final and last exam. Wouldn't recommend this class at all.
He is a great professor, he is kind , always answering any questions you have. He is flexible if you email him. His lectures are based on the exam and super similar to the material he provides for review (worksheets on the modules) . Attendance is mandatory if you want his lectures notes , so important to be there. Other than he is great
