Very nice teacher! I would take him again in a heartbeat! Do not buy the text book unless you are a nursing major, you may need it in the future.
He is so nice! Very good teacher! He is hard, but if you go to SI and study you will do just fine. Don't think you can study just the night before a big test. You get out what you put in. I recommend him to anyone! Very Funny & makes things interesting!
It's a hard class, but only because the material is hard. He's a great teacher. Explains everything and doesn't mind helping or answering questions. He isn't monotone so he's easy to listen to, and he is pretty funny. And he's not to bad to look at either, so that makes the class a little more enjoyable also.
Great teacher. Pay attention and take notes. Ask questions. HE TAKES ATTENDANCE. Overall, not a difficult class.
If you come to class and take notes you are sure to pass. He explains everything in depth you just have to study. Makes class fun and interesting so you want to come. He also does take attendance but it will help you in the long run on grades if you come. He is also easy on the eyes.
He gives you every bit of information you need for the tests and makes it impossible to fail if you go to class and listen. Do the quizzes even though they're only worth 5 percent because it'll help. No text book but study, study, STUDY that lab manual.
Very clear with what he expects on the test/quizzes. Quizzes are typically online. MUST MUST MUST study for test and lab tests.
Love this teacher !! Very clear on what he expects and cracks jokes when he can tell students are stressed. Will help any way he can, even meet a group outside class, DO THE QUIZ'S! Study for lab ALOT,all notes are PP so test info is straight from notes. Go to practice labs that are set up!Enjoyable lecture, never boring ! :)
I enjoyed his class a lot. He was very helpful with any questions or clarifications about topic. It was a summer class so it was fast paced but, I learned a lot. Definitely utilize SI sessions and make appointments to look at old tests. The only thing that wasn't cool was the timer shown on our online quizzes. They always made me nervous.
All of the material you need is in the notes. New notes every class so ATTEND CLASS, HE HAS AN ATTENDENCE POLICY. You can't pass is you don't attend this class. Lectures are awesome and he's hilarious, so why wouldn't you go? Must study for tests and lab, but if you pay attention, study, and have a liking for the material, it's an easy A.
would take another if his name comes up for sure
Scoggins is a wonderful teacher, but if you don't take the time to study, you will not pass. There is an awful amount of information and you need to keep up with it to make the grade.
Hes a great teacher and really will go out of the way to help, IF you show the effort.
Scoggins is a good teacher, your best bet at tarleton.
Scoggins is an extremely fair guy. If you goto class and participate you will do alright. he is fun to talk to and cares about his students
I learned more from this teacher than I have in any class that I have ever taken. He is fun to listen to and will answer your questions if you ask them. I would recommend this professor to anyone.
I had him for a lab instructor. He was pretty good. He was very chill and relaxed. If you go to class and pay attention you should do just fine. He genuinely cares about his students. He is great to talk to and loves to help out.
I loved him! Anatomy in itself is just a hard class but Scoggins makes it as painless as possible. He's cool enough that he understands his students, but also mature enough to be respected. I would take him again no doubt
His tests are extremely hard. Each test covers a ton of information. Test preps are always the night before the test and average 15 pages long. Too much information to remember for the tests in one night. There are several answer choices to choose from on the test and it makes it very confusing.
He rocks but it's a hard class
He is always encouraging students to come to his office hours for help. He always reminds us of test prep and SI because he truly wants his students to do good. His quizzes are online so you can use your notes. Test are tough but straight from notes. It is a tough course but I would definitely take Scoggins again if i could! DONT BUY BOOK
Scoggins is a really good professor anatomy is just a hard subject! i enjoyed taking his class, and would take it again! he is there to help you just have to ask for it, and he is willing to work with you if you work with him.
LOL GO TO CLASS, GO TO TUTORING AND ACE QUIZZES!
A&P is a hard class, regardless. Scoggins expects you to work for it, but A's are possible. There is a ton of information. It helps if you get someone's notes from the semester before, as they stay the same. Tests are really hard. Quizzes are online. Don't buy the book. Try and pay attention in class, but ultimately it's up to you to learn the info
My favorite professor at TSU. Its an easy A if you actually put in study time and go to class. Go to SI. When he says he put the review up go look at it that day. He is very straight forward on what will be on test and what he expects. There is no reason not to pass this class with an easy B+ - A.
I had him for the second semester biology class. He gives you the notes before class but leaves blanks for you to fill in.
It's anatomy and physiology, of course it's going to be hard. Don't be afraid to ask questions or go to his office hours though.
Definitely the best anatomy teacher
He gives you attendance questions in class that kind of jog your memory on information that will be on the tests to come. His tests are NOT hard if you actually do what you're supposed to do: go to class, take notes, and read over them at least once. He keeps the class lively with jokes and such, also you can save your grade with take home quizzes.
He makes the lectures fun and he'll make you laugh, but the tests are pretty hard. He gives online quizzes, which are pretty easy, and drops the two lowest quiz grades. He's a pretty good professor, take him!
Overall a good teacher!!
Tests are tough but that is to be expected from an anatomy class. Scoggins is extremely hilarious and explains things in a way that you can understand. He also gave quizzes to boost your grades and would help you anytime you came in during office hours. He also wasn't a sight for sore eyes. (; I'll be taking his class again!
Go to class and pay attention and you will do well. Quizzes help your grade. Tests are very tough and a lot of information. Will gladly help you if you go to his office. Super patient with you.
Scoggins is a great professor if you attend class regularly as well as all of the SI's! Wasn't too hard on the eyes either... Really enjoyed his class overall. Learned a lot that will be helpful to me in the future!
Scoggins is the best teacher on this campus! If you go to class, right down what he says on the slides and ACTUALLY STUDY, there's no way you can't pass this class! He is super helpful and is always available during office hours for homework or just to chill with. I would for sure take classes with him again! Great and caring teacher (& hot too) ;)
Took him for A&P 1 even though I don't need that class now I definitely don't regret taking it. One of the best teacher I would definitely take him again he make the class fun!!!
Anatomy is a hard subject, but he was great at "dumbing" it down! Pretty funny with all his stories. Be prepared to learn a lot! Need to study the powerpoints for a few day to really know the info for the exams.
Brian is a very good professor! If you don't go to class you will not pass! You need to take notes, and you will have quizzes on blackboard that come straight from the notes! If you study, and go to SI you will make a good grade! Do not expect to pass by just showing up and not putting forth any effort.
I love Scoggins. Lectures are really hard to listen to, but if you show up, take notes, and study you will definitely pass.
Scoggins is really clear with his expectations. As long as you review your notes daily, the class is an easy A.
A&P is hard in general if you are not interested. This is actually an easy class he gives you all the notes and you just have to know the material. He gives you extra credit quizzes that are easy and maybe 1 pop quiz. Overall a good teacher and TSU alum so will give cancel class for LJT and try not to give you a test/practical after SB
Great professor! Makes class interesting. Gives quizzes to help with grade, however beware of a few pop quizzes! Put in effort and he will help you out
Scoggins is a good looking man who also happens to be a pretty awesome teacher. If you have a question he'll answer it, and as long as you show up he might even bump you a half letter grade! His tests only get more difficult, and the book is helpful, BUT NOT A NECESSITY! Just put in an ounce of effort and you'll make a solid B.
The entire lecture is him just going over a power point, you basically have to teach yourself and study 24/7 to understand the material. If you do go to class everyday and do all the work he will take that into consideration, for you final grade.
He's a solid teacher. Super clear on his expectations and willing to help when he can. Make sure you're going to lecture & actively taking notes, as well as going to SI. If you aren't studying & using your resources you won't pass, but if you do, you'll get by. He's hilarious and you can tell he actually likes to teach.
Scoggins is hilarious, a straight forward professor, and is lecture heavy. Quizzes are usually online but this semester we had one pop quiz; he drops one quiz. Tests are challenging and require a great amount of studying but if you know everything you're fine. Studying hard will get you an A for sure.
Unfortunately I did terrible in his class but I was to blame not him! He was a great professor all the way around and considering HOW TERRIBLE BIOLOGY is in general he made it more bearable.
Great professor!
He's honestly an amazing teacher. He has a very sarcastic attitude everyday and makes jokes. He will work with you if you try in his class! He takes attendance seriously, if you miss more than three classes then he isn't so nice about helping you out so you can pass.
Scoggins is straight forward and it's an easy class as long as you show up and fill in the notes. The tests and quizzes are straight from the notes. I didn't open my textbook once.
As long as you go to class and take good notes you will be able pass. Highly recommend going to SI.
The class can be challenging if you are not good at taking notes. He can be sneaky and will ask you trick question on the test. He wants to make sure you are an expert on the material. Try to go to SI and find someone to study with. Be prepared for this class and don't think it easy.
Took him in the summer for AP2. He teaches well and knows his stuff. Go to class with the intention of learning and have slight interest in the topics and you will make an A. He is not a tough professor
Scoggins saved my life this semester. I think he knows it but I feel like I put him in a bad position. he was there for me on matters outside of school and handled everything so professionally. 10/10 great professor and person. he is one of your best resources. please treat him as one
Scoggins is an amazing teacher! I took him for A&P 1 and 2. Attendance is mandatory, he's strict on that. Class is all notes over PP. if you take all the notes and study, you'll pass easy! He gives a lot of quizzes online but they're open note, so you should get and A on all of them! He's a really funny guy and super sarcastic! He makes class fun.
best professor i've ever had.
Every class is lectures, and the notes are extensive, but they are fill in the blank and most of the notes you take are on the test.
Great professor but just a tough class in general. Scoggins is more than willing to help those that put in the effort. Pay attention to the attendance and quiz questions, they will help with your exams. Don't wait until the last minute to study, there are many notes and the exams are not easy. Know the material thoroughly.
Scoggins is seriously such a great professor. Very willing to help if you're willing to put in the effort. He even took time to set up his own study session to help us for our final. He's a teacher that really wants to help you understand the material and succeed. Take him if you get the chance. It's a challenging coarse but it's doable.
Scoggins makes the long lectures bearable. He applies the material to your life to help it make sense and throws in a few jokes to keep you interested. He reminds you of upcoming test and quizzes and cares about his students grades. At the end of the semester if you are a leaning grade ending in an 8 or 9 he will round up if you put in the work.
Very lengthy lectures can be somewhat vague but honestly if you listen you can get the idea, tests are HARD, quizzes can be difficult must know how to take good notes and study well
Very understanding and makes sure you know the material well. Always replies to emails quickly and is easy to talk to. Make sure you show up for class and look over your material after each lecture and you will do fine.
He has heavy lectures but focuses significant information and gives you appropriate test questions over the material he presented. Has some entertaining anecdotes and provides a relaxed environment.
notes are fill in the blank. if you dont show up to get the notes, you can copy them straight from the book. lecture is boring but he does take attendance. if you don't miss often, he is willing to boost your 88 to a 90 for example. Pretty easy class, tests cover a lot. A few online quizzes given.
I too him for A&P 2. The test material is extensive and there is a lot to memorize. However if you study your notes between classes and stay on top of quizzes, youll pass. He is also always available outside of class unless something personal comes up. Very easy to reach.
Scoggins gives pre-made notes on blackboard so all you have to do in class is fill in the blanks. I went to a lot of his SI sessions and those helped a lot for tests. If you do the online homeworks those are easy grade boosters. Scoggins keeps lectures interesting by adding humor and stories every now and then! Dont slack and youll pass!
I took Scoggins for AP2 and his notes, reviews on blackboard and office hours made everything much easier. As long as you actually show up to class and pay attention, it shouldn't be hard to pass.
The BEST science based professor I've ever taken!! Easy 100 if you put in the work. FIll in the blank notes and everything you're tested on is from the notes.
If you dont go to class it will be hard to pass. He gives you fill in the blank notes and is entertaining during lecture.
Dr. Scoggins is accessible and responsive during office hours. His lectures have relatable examples and explanations. You will be successful in his class if you do your work, pay attention during lectures (especially to the attendance questions), and study the reviews. He is fair and gives consideration to attendance, communication, and effort.
I took Mr. Scoggins for A&P 1 and I made a 106. He's a great professor with an interesting teaching style and while I usually hate science, I enjoyed this class.
I highly recommend taking Professor Scoggins class. As long as you study and and do your best on homework and quizzes (both are online) you should get an easy B. He is funny during lectures and as long as you are willing to reach out for help he has your back.
Scoggins is a great professor! I took him for both A&P 1 and A&P 2. You have to study but he prepares you through fill-in-the-blank notes and attendance questions that always end up being on exams. He is super funny and tries to make class enjoyable. The class was difficult but he is still a great professor! Highly recommended!
He's funny w/ his lectures, but you need to study for his tests or you won't pass. Show up to class for his lab and lectures.
Very rude and not very helpful. Be ready to be degraded and spoken down to. There is a lot of homework and if you skip class you WILL fail.
Terrible professor he is mean and he makes his class impossible
I'm going, to be honest, the people who failed this class honestly didn't try, study or seek out help such as tutoring. Scoggins is honestly a great professor, we never used the textbook so don't bother wasting your money. We do have a lot of homework but it's super easy, most of the answers are online. Also show up to class, he has a seating chart
This is a hard class lead by an average professor. Honestly would choose someone different. Go to class or you will not pass and study all the time when you can.
He was very accessible outside of class and answers any questions you have. Very helpful and informative.
I would choose a different professor. Broad lectures, unlike the exams. Doesn't help a lot with the exam material.
Scoggin's is my fave professor at Tarleton. He will go out of his way to help you if you show him that you are helping yourself. Go to SI if you have one, do all the homework, go to class AND lab. Go to him if you're having trouble with the material and he will dumb it down for you as best as he can. Forever my favorite professor.
He is very entertaining, but his lectures can be very broad and then he doesn't explain very well what will be included in the exam. Make sure to go to SI, it was super helpful.
Does not work with you or give second chances.
relatable and he knows his stuff
Good professor with easy to follow along notes. The class is hard but that's because its anatomy , he doesn't try and trick you on tests. I would take him again
When you email him if you haven't done the assignments or been in class for a whole semester, he emails you back with a smart response then posts about you on his Twitter with a meme making fun of you. Actually, go to class and do your work and you MIGHT just MIGHTsucceed.
I love Scoggins. He is funny and makes class enjoyable. I had an 8 am but he made it fun. He has filled in the blank notes which help so you can focus on what he is saying. He doesn't put up with much and responds with sarcasm which is funny. He makes sure you stay accountable. Awesome professor!!!! Would take again.
Scoggins was by far the best professor ive had here at tarleton. He actually cares about teaching and goes above and beyond when it comes to lectures
The ratings on this page saying hes a bad professor are just written by lazy people with no work ethic. Hes a good teacher if youre a good student but hes not your mom and wont babysit you. Put in the effort to do well and hell put in effort to help you.
A&P isn't a course to take for fun. Put forth effort and you will get the desired grade. I hate labeling certain material as "easy" because what is easy for some, isn't for others. BUT Scoggins is pretty straight-forward, test answers come straight from the notes, he isn't tricky. I agree with previous rate; haters = lazyyyy.
Awesome teacher
Hardest class I have ever taken, hands down. Scoggins made it fun, interesting and make you want to come to class. I have never had to study and I had to study for HOURS and still made a B. The material is difficult and he is a great professor.
This man is quite hilarious at 8am in the mf morning. I had already taken anatomy in high school he goes a little bit more in depth but its still pretty easy if you listen. If you only show up for test day you probably will not pass. If you take this man you have to follow his twitter he loves his garden and likes to roast students.
Scoggins made AP 1 so easy to attend at 8am. The class is honestly not hard if you have good time management. Studying is definitely a must. Scoggins is easy to talk to and work with. He is also super funny!
I do like this professor as a person not as a teacher. If you have ADHD or dyslexic.I would suggest taking A&P at a juco.Lab is fill in the blank & multiple choice is 6+ questions if you have an idea of what the answer is, there will be three more similar answers. He leaves no room for half knowledge.(I know his response to that will be duh) Pt.1
pt2 I definitely was gifted more chances than I deserved. He's a good person and if you care about your grade he will. Just understand that moving from high school to his class will be difficult because of his expectations of his students.
Funnest teacher ever. Made a hard class understandable and is rooting for his students to pass. You have to work hard but its worth it.
He provided amazing lectures and was super funny which helped me to remember terms! Must show up to class + study quite a bit.
Overall Professor Scoggins is a great professor and really does his best to teach you what you need to know. This is just a difficult class in general but he usually does well explaining in lectures
Overall he is a great guy but if you have a hard time keeping focus this is not the class for you.Yes, there is a grade curve so a D is failing but that should tell you not many people do well in his class. Would not take him again.Felt very unprepared on all tests since he just read off the powerpoints.
Scoggins makes A&P 1 interesting, but every class is PowerPoint notes. Attendance is mandatory and he will know if you don't show up. Tests are easy if you do the exam checklist. The only downside to Scoggins is that he will pick on people who ask "dumb" questions, and anything you do can and will be used against you in a subtweet.
His lectures are boring and its hard to pay attention. i learned off of the homework. Lab is challenging as well. Before you take this class make sure to take it seriously.
GO TO CLASS! You need to study a lot for this class. Also, do not brush off lab. Study HEAVILY for the practicals.
Anatomy and physiology is not an easy course, regardless of who the professor is. Scoggins does a decent job for those who want to learn and the best examples are ones he relates the material to real life.
I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews. A&P is difficult, and to get good grades you have to put in the effort. Yes his lectures are just slides, but the book and homework have more than enough resources to help with studying. I thought he was a great teacher and would definitely recommend his class.
I almost quit nursing after this....now that I have taken this course with a different professor (grade: A) I would NOT suggest Brian he is vary test heavy and just a petty teacher if you naturally need to spend more time preparing before/after class to understand the topic this class will not be helpful he's a "teach your self" kind of guy.
Mr. Scoggins was very professional and knows his stuff, sometimes it gets a little boring and/or off-topic, and he does not tolerate any nonsense. Overall I would strongly recommend this course.
Tough grader. Only drops attendance grades and lowest quiz grades. ATTEND LAB. You won't pass if you don't attend lab and don't pay attention in lecture. Lecture gets boring, stay engaged.
Mr. Scoggins is such a great professor, he can be funny at times. Attendance is a must for any A&P classes and lab. A&p is a hard course, but if you study hard then you should be good.
He is a good teacher overall but can be very monotone during lectures unless he is telling a story. He always puts like 4-5 assignments due in one night but gives you a week or two complete them.
Professor Scoggins runs a challenging but rewarding class. If you put in the work and engage with the material, he's a great teacher. unstuck study was a game-changer for my study prep.
He does not allow extra credit and his exams are extremely hard and confusing
Scoggins was an entertaining teacher; his lectures are interesting, and he incorporates stories into topics. The tests can be difficult, but as long as you pay attention in class and do the quizzes, all the information is covered. Extra credit is included at the end of exams, boosting your grade. They are free responses, but it's not a long answer.
Relatively easy class if you are willing to put in the work. You MUST go to lab. His lectures are super boring but the notes/study guides are good, and the tests are easy. He gets too much hate!
Great anatomy 1 professor! He knows his stuff & will give you the tools you need to pass test but YOU have to put in the work! Every class lectures, with guided notes. Great Guy & funny. He also always gives great examples on how to remember stuff!
I only made an F because of myself. He was an amazing professor but I just had a rough time.
