Very young Prof, fairly give you, your grade. If you have any problems just have to ask, he will be happy to help you in his own time. Great Prof take him, you will understand what's MATH.
he was very rude to the students and did not seem like he wanted to be there at all. sometimes he would make sense other times not so much. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
very young Prof. However, He knows his stuffs and he is very helpful to his students. If you need help just talk to him, he will use his own time and go over the problems with you 1 on 1. Great Prof take him.
Young teacher, was nice in the beginning of the course. However he teaches at a fast pace and you can't miss class or you will be lost. Gives hw after every class, plus aleks, and his tests are difficult.Unless you want to work everyday on math hw, do not take him.
wonderful. just dont interupt while he's teaching! leave your side convo's for AFTER CLASS :) he's simple. only h.w you have all semester... ALEKS!!
young guy, but doesnt explain problems. the only way to pass is to due aleks because his tests are extremely hard
he's ok
please dont take his class vaer fast going teacher
great math professor. brian is the only math professor ive had in college so far that i actually felt like i learned from. the class itself is fast paced but if you keep up with the work, its 100% possible to get a good grade.
I had a 7-week semester with him, so it couldn't be helped the course would be fast paced. If you take notes and do your homework, you're set. During class he'll give an introduction for the topic, give definitions, then do a few problems and break down the steps for you. Then it's on the the next thing; MAKE SURE TO KEEP UP!
Miserable class. By the end there were only about 7 students left. Tests were ridiculous. I'm retaking the course w/ another professor & my current average is a B. Looking back at old tests from Sicilia, I still don't understand the material. If you ask a question about any previous material, he'd give you a lecture about how you're so far behind.
Do not take him, hard to follow. He is showing of in the class with his sudoku skills and writing with both hands instead of teaching and than he blames you, you didn't learn anything. I tried hard, but hardly passed. If I can suggest, take another professor.
He really isn't as bad as everyone is saying he is. He is a little proud, but he writes VERY clear notes and will stop to explain something if someone doesn't get it. COME TO CLASS AND DO THE HOMEWORK! He gives extra credit points on the test for attendance. He goes through the material quickly, so be sure to ask if you have a question.
Great profesor, took him this semester and next, i always had problems with math but not anymore
Awesome Professor. I had him for this semester 9/7/11 - 12/14/11 and he makes sure that you understand what he is teaching (or introducing new topics). Do not be afraid to tell him that you don't understand. He is a few out of the many that cares. I wouldn't mind taking him again for next semester but maybe some other time. Also gives extra credit
He is a very neat and organized professor. His notes are perfect as well as his writing. If you are willing to put in the effort and really try hard to earn a good grade he will help you, otherwise if you don't care, he won't either. Overall, he is very confident, helpful and sarcastic. Good professor.
I enjoyed this professor very much. He is straight to the point, offers help, and is willing to work with you if you show great effort. If someone complains that he doesn't offer guidance it is because they do not make the effort themselves. Tests are challenging but I enjoyed the class none the less.
I had this professor fo precalc over the summer and honestly he was easy on the eyes and very enthusiatic abou the subject! Mind you this class moves very fast and you really don't have time to grasp all the information so don't go into this class if you haven't taken AT LEAST TRIG. it'll help swear! But he's really helpfu!
Good professor. Moved fast, but it was a summer class, so that was a given. Do the homework and come to class and you'll surely pass. Test questions pretty much mimic the homework questions. He calls himself an a**hole, but he isn't. He will help you when you need it.
He is quirky and young so he somewhat keeps the class interesting but at the same time tries to teach concepts that are way beyond what this course is supposed to entail. He is also very intelligent, definitely knows what he's talking about but I think his ego gets in the way of his teaching at times. If you're not good at math, don't take him.
This professor teaches tremendously well. I actually enjoyed his lectures. His notes/handwriting is soo clear and nice. People only write bad things about him because they just want to get an A without working (which is no way of passing). His tests are intermediate not too hard or too easy. His final exam was awesome! Overall he is an amazing prof
GREAT professor in that he is really clear and helpful. He comes off as condescending but is very open to helping. He often offered to come in for office hours on days he had off. I'm not great at math but found this course very comfortable and realized this was honestly my favorite class. Just pay attention, do a little HW/study & you'll be okay!
Extremely helpful and clear as far as the expectations of the class - he has several hours open for extra help and explanation. It was a combo course and I hate math, but I still got an A in the class. Just do the homework, go to class, and make sure if you don't get it to ask a question. The calculator & book are needed & you do actually use both.
AWESOME Professor! VERY knowledgeable, very helpful, and down to earth. He's a no nonsense guy but do the work, aleks pie, and show up and you will pass! Loved him!
He is young but dosen't knows how to teach students. His class is really boring and his homework is also ok. I even felt that he is mean so not preferable for taking any course with him further and I might have to take this class again.......... his tests are hard .
This Professor is young and rude and very cold. Don't take him if you struggle with math. If you know your stuff than he is perfect. I have a lot of trouble with math and this guy was just confusing and a lot of the time very rude to his students. No respect. brought down my gpa as well.
please do not take this professor unless you are really good in math. he is helpful when you want to ask any questions, and hw was alot easier then the tests. he is really hard not an easy class. please don't take this professor unless you know what you are really doing. otherwise take someone else.
You have to work with the professor in order to succeed especially since this is college.Every student must practice the problems as much as they can to get the grade that they want to get. That is what I did and always. He always asked if anyone needed help and encouraged questions to be asked. He is one of the most decent professors at Middlesex.
horrible..horrible..he was my nightmare everyday and ruined my gpa now i have to retake the class!!!!
Horrible professor. Does not care about students. He failed 21 out of 25 students in class. Teaching skills are horrible and tries to blame the students instead. NOT RECOMMENDED unless you are try to damage your GPA
He lacks teaching skills and tries to blame the students instead. Extremely rude. His goal is to fail as many students as possible. Clearly he does not care about any of the students.
Explanations are lengthier than the textbooks and far more confusing. Examples done in class are easier than those given for work and on tests. Blames student for lack of knowledge. Not very helpful when asked for assistance.
Expect to work in this class. I took the course as a visiting student from another university and he was better than the professor I had there. He gives extra credit for attendance. Do practice problems from the book and you'll be fine. He's not an easy A, but he's definitely passable if you work and ask questions. Easy on the eyes. He's good!
THE BEST!!!! People just rate low because they DONT like to study but of course you have to study math.....he teaches PERFECTLY AND CLEAR and he's always willing to help you
I hate math, but he acutually explained it well enough for me to understand the subject. I loved his sarcasm and he is such a dork but it's funny. Attend his classes or you miss a lot. He is a fast paced, Has hard tests and expects you to show every little bit of work. But I thought he was cool.
OK, SO ONE MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS GUY: In his attempt to simplify certain topics he actually does the opposite...he confuses his students by talking in a nerdy dorky like manner, using big words, and throwing you all around the topic. In another words his methods of explaining ARE TERRIBLE! He OVER COMPLICATES HIS LECTURES! AVOID HIM!!!
Do Not take him, if you are scheduled to take his class please re-evaluate your time invested in failing this class. Not helpful. Base your grades off of tests and aleks only. Acts fresh with you when trying to ask questions on how to do a problem and most of all NOT HELPFUL. do not take him unless you're trying to waste your tuition money.
I am def. not a whiz at math but did just FINE in his class. I had to actually pay attention & do HW/study but this is necessary in any class where you're learning new and difficult material. I thought he did a great job. The only people in my class that complained were those who didn't show up or were on their phones 24/7. Vry helpful @ office hrs
Very helpful, offers visits during office hours. Gives advice on geting betr grdes in class. BUT these are FACTS. 1) He teaches fast! (he admtd it hmslf) if ur a slow learner DONT TAKE HIS CLASS. 2) In his attempt to simplify he OVER-COMPLICATES and CONFUSES 3) His tests have problems that require you to combine your knowledge inorder to solve them
He is a great professor, he cares about his students and wants them to do well. If you do not like going to class then do not take him as attendance is highly important. If you do not try then he will get on your case but that shows that he cares. He is very helpful! If you need extra help he has office hours!
Professor knows what he is doing and his subject, but be beware, HE IS VERY FAST. If you like a fast paced class this is for you. If you have a question or don't understand a concept, he will stop and reiterate again, BUT SPEAK UP, or he will move on with the lesson. Very fair grader on exams and likes to give partial credit, overall he is very fair
Professor is very fast. I advise not to skip class because he takes attendance and counts towards your grade. Might come off as cruel but is helpful when you ask for it. If you need a slow paced class, dont take the class.
BEST PROFESSOR ON CAMPUS!!!!! if your horrible in math he will clarify everything for you. he writes a lot of notes but trust me they will save your life when your at home studying. he also adds extra points to your test if you show up to class ( AWESOME!!!!) he can come off as mean sarcastic but our class found him to be hilarious.
Professor Sicilia is a good professor. Very fair grader. Make sure you always come to class because he gives extra credit for attendance. You must speak up or he will move on.
I would not recommend taking him. He offers help however when you ask a question his response is always something like this "You do this, this and this it's simple. Do you understand? It's simple." But if you are in a non credit Algebra class things are not simple to you. He is highly sarcastic, rude and arrogant. Save yourself and your dignity!
Came into this class hoping to at least pass with a C, and did better than expected. If you're lost speak up or he will fly through the lesson. He writes a lot of notes that are always helpful, be sure to copy down ever word. Attendance saved me. Definitely would take him again without a doubt!!! Highly recommended Professor!
Sicilia is okay. But he's too sarcastic. The tests are too tough. Tests are 40% of the grade.
Consistantly gives sarcastic and snippy remarks throughout the lesson. Expects students to recall every single year of math at any time and does not provide clear explanations when asked to elaborate on a problem. Often treats adult students like children. Does not foster an environment fit for learning or to ask questions in.
Sicilia is a good man, but his teaching is confusing. He goes too fast and he is too sarcastic when you ask a question. His tests are too hard, and there is few extra credit.
Pro. Sicilia is a very sarcastic teacher. If your really not a good test taker DO NOt Take Him,majority of your grade is based on Test and you really just take 3 test in total ONLY open ended.
Great professor. Does a pretty good job teaching. He loves Physics so be prepared for him to mention that a bunch. He also gives extra credit which is always nice.
He's really arrogant and expects you to get to his level. If you have the option of choosing anther professor for any math course, I highly recommend that you do so.
Sicilia is a good guy, but he's super arrogant and always makes racial comments. He makes fun of other people as well. I would recommend some other professor.
Probably one of the worst professors at MCC. Professor Sicilia is really arrogant and expects you to know things right away. He calls those who can't catch up stupid (he doesn't use the word, but it's heavily implied). You can certainly choose someone better than him. Choose Sicilia, and you will look backand regret that decision.. believe me.
He is fair and he hates cheating. He is very understanding, down to earth and, he is cute. He does give all lot of quizzes but he usually tells you when they are and the two lowest quiz grades are dropped.
Professor Sicilia is a tough professor, but an okay personality. If you ask for help, he gets annoyed sometimes. You have to understand the work in his view, or else, he will go on with the next lesson. He does not wait for the class to understand the material. Very tough grader.
arrogant, rude and sarcastic, unfriendly and not really helpful, becomes extremely annoyed when you ask for help, expects you to know the material immediately. Makes in direct rude comments to the class, uses profanity when he speaks to the class. Loves to talk about himself, has a very big ego.. His personality ruins his good teaching methods.
Great professor. Approachable and will help you if you seek it out. Homework is optional however gives a quiz every other class. Made math understandable and will explain processes in detail. Can be funny at times and I've never seen him get mad. Would have passed this class if I was a better student. Go to class, study, and you'll do just fine.
Knows more than head of the department does. Can't be more clearer than him. I love Math because of him
I'd definitely take another class with Professor Sicilia. He explains the concepts really well, and he's incredibly helpful (just be sure to speak up if you're confused by something).
The worse , looks down on students does not care about his students. Cocky obnoxious arrogant makes students cry right in the classroom. Make you feel real stupid and inadequate Never take him I promise you do not take him. Never let you go to the board no real hands on Don't waist your time nor your money.
Very good teacher. He cares for the student success. He will explain what you do not understand. He gives u credit for attendance, highly recommend him for students because he clears math up. The homework is optional. However, completing the homework is key for success of the class. work hard, give extra time for studying. You will be fine.
good teacher and has funny in class jokes but a really smart guy he definitely knows more than the department combined.
Professor Sicilia is one of the best math teacher I've ever had. He does a fantastic job explaining complicated concepts(Calc). He might appear a bit mean to some people, however in my opinion he is very funny and very intelligent. Also he gives some extra points for attendance. I wish i could take him again!
Explains concepts really well and helps you if you do not understand. Is very accessible outside of class if you need extra help. Test and quizzes are straight forward, If you pay attention and make an effort this class should not be too hard. Great professor, will definitely take him again.
Professor Sicilia's class was hard. He never gave extra credit or anything of the sort. He somewhat went too fast, and if you asked some questions, he would be too nasty in responding to your questions.
Professor Sicilia is probably one of the most competent math teachers I have ever had. He teaches well and really helps understand the material. If you struggle, he has office hours where he will thoroughly explain what is not understood. Do ALL the work, pay attention and you will do well!
Professor Sicilia made Algebra accessible to me after years of convincing myself that I would never have any success in math. He's no-nonsense, but he's also willing to work with you if there's something you're confused about. I would absolutely take him again, I've NEVER had a more competent math teacher.
Math is a dangerous thing if it makes a man think so disgustingly high of himself. Not many positives worth mentioning.
Lectures are the only thing that will keep you afloat in the class, he has no passion in students and makes you feel stupid if you don't know what he's talking about a DAY after he teaches it.
This guy is probably one of the best math teachers i've had in a long time. His class is hard don't get me wrong but he knows what he's doing and teaches well. Also gives extra credit for every class period you're there. He's also super sarcastic and sassy as hell. I wish I could take calc 2 with him too
he is a really good professor and teaches very well, if you slack off then he isn't the professor for you.
Professor Sicilia was extremely unprofessional when answering student's questions, often using sarcasm and coming off as condescending. He was absent frequently throughout the semester but still expected his students to be ready for the tests/assignments. He uses many excuses for himself but does not want to hear any from his students.
He is as good as other professors in MCC. Just remind you guys, you can take his class when you have less work to do with your other courses. The reason is you need to spend a lot of time in learning more to get a decent grade on the quiz or test (suppose you are smart in math).
Go to his class and listen to his lecture first...
It is hard to let him keep you feel good about math. Everybody feels dull in his class.
If you want to register his class, please go to hear his present lecture and do his quiz, and then you will know why his students fail all the time.
Check ROD every time before you register each course.
Make more consideration when you want to take a course.
He should do better.
I know he likes teaching.... If...
He was the best professor I've ever had. Even though I didn't do well, he taught me many things about Pre Calc. He loves to interact with students by telling jokes and showing tricks to help solve equations. Great teacher and I want to take him again next semester. And by the way, he did tell me so!!!
Horrible, horrible!! Run away. He is very tough grader, rude, and very rude.
He is just great!
This professor is very unique. He learned his math well. Registering his class will give you an unforgetting experience. LOL
He likes teaching if he is really not under pressure. Prof. Sicilia likes telling you jokes only if you can really understand it. Don't register too many classes in the same semester We need to give him warmth to tell him he is wonderful. Hahahaha! Register his class. All the professors in the Mathematics Department are wonderful; he is 1 of them.
Bonus!!! To tell you a secret, do online homework in his class and it will let you do great!!!! He is a great guy!!!
Online homework every class with multiple chances to answer. 3 tests (he drops the lowest one) and a final. Pay attention, ask questions. A lot of notes, don't miss class. He's sarcastic, not always a good thing but he's funny sometimes as well. I actually enjoyed the class.
Belittles students under the guise of "sarcasm" when the class doesnt instantly recolect a topic from previos courses. No clear path to success on tests, just hope you get lucky and review the right 150+ homework problems. His ego really gets in the way when he blames the whole class for failing a test that he claims he made easier. Avoid.
SPENDS MORE TIME WRITING NOTES RATHER THAN TEACHING HOW TO SOLVE THE ACTUAL PROBLEMS. TESTS ARE EXTREMELY HARD, WHEN YOU ASK HIM FOR HELP HE GIVES A SARCASTIC ANSWER WITHOUT EXPLAINING. HAD TO DROP.
His method of teaching is very confusing.
The professor takes every minute of class to lecture you and writes a lot of useless notes on the board. He doesn't interact with his students well. He's very sarcastic. there were 30 kids in my class not there are under 10. Passing his class is extremely difficult. he gave 4 homework assignments 4 days before the final. In conclusion don't take.
I took this professor for Calc II. He is passionate about math, but he does not understand that his students are not on his level. His lectures are all just rewriting the definitions and theorems on the board, but nothing is conveyed in a simple, easy to understand matter. If he worked on his communication skills, he would be a better professor.
Honestly, I would not judge him entirely depending on the reviews. I read the reviews I was scared that his class is gonna affect my Gpa badly. But I got A+. focus in the class and take notes!! just do HW understnd it and manage to get 80% in the exams and you will be fine. You are a college student nd need to work hard for A dont blame him :)
You really need to spend time figuring out which math professor is suitable for you, more efficient, more caring, more respectful...
I took him online and he was literally the worst. He didn't do any teaching at all, no lectures or anything. He would just upload powerpoints that weren't even helpful to the problems and barley any videos explaining/showing how to do it. Don't take him you'll regret it.
This teacher has horrible access to him! Couldn't get ahold of him for anything and doesn't make any information clear. I had a hard time at the beginning of class and he didn't give me any chances to make my grade better after I had issues in my personal life. He might be smart but he's awful at understanding how to be a good person period. 0/10
He never answers emails even if their important so you basically do all by yourself.
Completely unprofessional. He goes MIA and doesnt respond to anything. If you ask him for help he is passive aggressive in the email and makes you feel stupid. He is completely disrespectful and doesnt teach. Yes it is an online course but he doesnt help you just does bare minimum powerpoints and expects you to know how to do it. Do not take.
DO NOT TAKE. I was one of those people who ignored the RMP ratings and figured none of the listed scenarios would apply to me. I was wrong. Unprofessional, uncaring, and unreachable. A waste of money and dont you even think about asking this professor for help if youre struggling. JUST WAIT THE EXTRA SEMESTER AND SIT WITH A BETTER PROF. DONT TAKE
I failed in this class. He is not a good teacher, tough grader.
Professor Sicilia is knowledgeable about what he is teaching, however the class was VERY lecture heavy, and I felt that he could have gone over more examples in the class to make calculus more understandable. I did all my homework and tried to keep up, but it was tough. I passed calculus the next semester (and the course was all online)
He is incredibly unprofessional and is lecture/note heavy. He is passionate about what he teaches but he thinks that his students are on the same level as him and we're not. He can be very sarcastic and condescending. He'll even go MIA and won't respond to your emails either. Would not recommend it.
Professor Sicilia was super helpful and had a lot of office hours to attend. He held review sessions prior to tests which helped a lot. Math isn't my strong suit but he explained things very thoroughly and will explain any questions that you have. Overall the class has a strong trigonometric focus, but is very well explained.
While for personal reasons I will not be continuing college, for those who are, take his course if you need to. Yes, he is lecture-heavy, but if you show effort, he will be nice and help you. He is professional and kind-hearted if you take the time to get to know him. His course is lecture heavy so PAY ATTENTION ASK QUESTIONS AND TAKE NOTES.
While Professor Sicilia is a difficult professor if you go into the class wanting to learn he is a great teacher. He lays everything out and has the notes posted. As far as tests there are three, and he drops the lowest grade of the 3 at the end of the semester. He's flexivbe and will work with you if you need to take the exams at a different time.
This professor's teaching style is extremely challenging, it's quite difficult to keep up. The responses to certain questions and incorrect answers in class often come across as sarcastic or condescending. Unresponsive to emails, limited office hours for all forms of communication. I've frequently left the class feeling discouraged.
This course wasn't absolutely horrible, but it was definitely one of my harder courses. I had a good grade throughout the semester as all assignments were online but beware that the final was IN PERSON. But otherwise a pretty good professor.
Did not like him. Terrible at lectures, don't recommend. He gets bothered when you ask him questions, he can be very rude. Tough class for sure.
Sarcastic commenting after grading. When I asked for help, I was told my message wasn't specific enough. When I reply with an in-depth explanation, I'm ignored. The semester was about to end so he must've stopped caring.
Very lecture heavy. He will come off very passive aggressive when you ask him a question or to slow down. Do NOT take.
This professor is the worst I have ever taken in my life. Personally, I think his life is super unhappy and he takes it out at work. He'll get angry if you ask a simple question, has to be some sort of issues. Doesn't seem to care for his job, think he should have entered a different field, teaching is not for him whatsoever. Online vids are horrid
Sicilia's class is challenging, but manageable with consistent effort. The lectures can be dry, but the textbook and resources like Unstuck AI help fill the gaps. Stay engaged, and you can succeed despite the steep learning curve.
I took him over the winter and I only needed to take the final in person. When I took the final, most of the material on it was never shown in ANY examples throughout the course and jeopardized everyone's grade. AVOID taking him.
He was very passive aggressive and made students feel silly for being lost. He teaches statistics 1 like you're supposed to know exactly what he's talking about. I absolutely do not recommend if you struggle with math in any way.
Good lucky with this guy. He makes you feel stupid for even asking question and if you miss an exam for any reason, no retakes are given. No patience for anything or anyone and it comes off as extremely disrespectful. Avoid at all costs.
Expected his students to know the material, was very arrogant in his responses to students questions which was discouraging, would usually get frustrated when students didn't have the answer to one of his questions. Lots of homework, but tests equal a very big part of the grade. Wouldn't recommend if math isn't your strength or not very outspoken.
Taught us through youtube videos from other professors never taught us anything from him. I went to his office hours and he started to do the problem wrong.. For the final there was no help, no list of topics or anything. I had to teach myself everything there was no point for him to be a professor for this course.
