The best professor I've ever had. He answers every question, no matter how difficult, and if he doesn't know the answer right away he will find it on his own time and email the class. He's very passionate and dedicated to psychology.
By far the best professor you can get. Attendance isn't mandatory but he doesn't post the lectures/slides on Carmen and he gives 1 point quizzes almost every class (easy quizzes) so going to the lectures is the best way to do well. He is very passionate about psychology and his students and it makes the class enjoyable.
Brian is a great teacher. He presents the information in a clear and interesting manner. He was very easy to set up an appointment with. He doesn't take attendance, but we get short 3 question multiple choice quizzes at the end of most classes that help our grades. Attendance is not taken, but showing up definitely affects your grade.
Definitely dedicated to student learning. Does not allow laptops/cellphones in class, but that helps for being focused on lectures. Lots of material to learn and most of grade is from tests. Does not take attendance, but going to class definitely helps because there are short pop quizzes almost every class period.
SO cool. VERY laid back and easy going. He really wants you to succeed. It's more a friend teaching a friend instead of professor to student.
Class is quite easy. He is a nice guy but he teaches at a level below many of his students. Tends to read off slides and go very quickly toward the end of class. Sticking to a schedule is very important to him. Exams are easy. Gives short quizzes each class in place of attendance. Gives 3 assignments which is only outside work.
Lectures are incredibly boring. This is supposed to be the joke neuroscience intro class but he really make you work for it. Reads off slides, gives 3 question quizzes every class which you actually have to study for, and he speeds through notes so it is impossible to get them all. says exams are easy but worded weird.
Horrible teacher, blows through notes, says things will not be on the test but then puts them on there. Pop quizzes at the "end" of every class but changed it to randomly during class. Extremely boring presentations. Supposed to be an extremely easy class for neuro majors, it has been my hardest.
Feels like you're taking an advanced neuro class when in reality it's supposed to be an easy intro class. His lectures are boring and the material is heavy, avoid taking this class with him.
Excellent teacher. He kind of has to dumb down and simplify the material for some of the students, but is definitely dedicated to making sure you get it. Always willing to help outside of class, too Not very hard class at all if you do the reading and go to class. The pop quizzes every class are easy and also a way to get extra points by the end.
He's a good lecturer, although the subject matter can be a bit dry. Communicates clearly and gets really excited about neuro. Pop quizzes are kind of hard but reading the book help a lot. Exams are average difficulty.
Pop quizzes every class that are easy IF you read the book, which is super long and dry. Even he admits that it's filled with too much information, but still tests off everything in the book. Includes very specific questions from the reading on exams that aren't discussed in class. Took 3 weeks to grade a scantron. Would not recommend.
Overall, he seemed pretty out of touch with his students. The majority of us are neuro majors who have seen most of this material before, but it often felt like we were being coddled. His idea of teaching "critical thinking" is to constantly preach his own biases on topics covered in class. Reading directly from slides makes for boring lectures.
I met with him 3 times and he is a great instructor who cares a lot about us. The book WAS kind of dry and detailed, but it wasn't that bad. I disagree with other posters that lectures were boring! He knows a lot about the material and mixed it up with videos and experiment demos sometimes. The quizzes are not really that hard if you come to class
Easiest Class Ever Today I take Exam 3 and assuming I get above a 40/60 it will mean I'll have aced the class AND won't have to take the final. This class is ridiculously easy, go to lecture, you're paying for it after all, and study for the first couple exams
Brian is a great instructor and I really enjoyed taking his class. He has a pop quiz every class but once you receive 20 points you will get extra credit. I had over 10 extra credit points! The pop quizzes are easy as long as you look over the lectures before class. The exams are a little tricky but he will add some points to increase the average.
Lectures were long and got boring quickly. Repeated himself a lot and then blew through important slides. Exams 1 and 3 were average, but Exam 2 was hard and clearly drawn from the boring textbook nobody reads. But, assignments were easy 100%s, and pop quizzes gave me 14 extra credit points, and I didn't have to take the final. Pros and cons.
He is a very good professor, he cares a lot about doing well in class. This class isn't too hard, he gives you many opportunities to get a bunch of extra credit. Lectures are long and can be boring but he shows a lot of great examples. Overall, he is a great professor!
He's pretty passionate about the topic, but can get boring. Syllabus says the textbook is required, but I never read it and did fine. Do well on the pop quizzes, because you can get a ton of extra credit from then; I got so much I didn't have to take the final. 3 midterms, 1 final, lowest of any dropped, 3 short papers
AMAZING prof for cognitive neuro. Extra credit pop quizzes at the end of every lecture. Doesn't use textbook, so always go to class. Exams are off of his powerpoints, but very detailed. Cares about his students but doesn't deal with slackers. He will answer every question he knows and research ones he doesn't.
He really cares about his students, he loves when people ask questions during lecture. Very open outside of class. Exams only cover lecture content, but he can move fast in lecture. Wording on exams can be a little tricky so watch out for that. Drops lowest exam score!
Brian is a cool guy overall but he's a mediocre lecturer at best. He flips through slides extremely fast and leaves students frustrated at the end of class. He is more than welcoming to help but also makes lecture a little confusing. You really should read the book if you want a good grade. However, he does drop your lowest test grade so thats nice
Class isnt mandatory but he really does highlight what will be on the midterms. Do the study guides and you will ace the tests. Great lecturer, engages with the class with demonstrations and really does care about his students. If you can take him for this class i would highly recommend doing so.
Brian was an amazing teacher. While its true that his lectures were a little fast paced and confusing, Brian always made sure his students understood the material. If you had a question, no matter how dumb it seemed, Brian would answer it without judgement. Brian made Psych 2300 an easy A. Plus, he dropped the lowest exam score.
Brian was one of the most caring professors I have ever had. He really makes sure his students are set up for success. He provides a ton of extra credit quizzes(he didn't do pop quizzes with us) and his assignments are easy 100%. Midterm two was definitely the hardest, but pretty much all exams are lectures and study guide material.
Brian is awesome! I've never had a professor care so much about my progress as a student and I felt prepared for every exam. I like his teaching style and when he calls people out who are absorbed into their phones during lecture. He always asked if we had questions and gave us plenty of opportunities to get the grade we wanted. Learned a lot!!
He cares about his students' success and is very thorough and easy to understand. One of my favorite professors on campus
Great professor. Very enthusiastic and realistic. Extremely approachable and caring about material. Slides posted online, no attendance grade. Tests are straightforward and easy. Disclaimers: Does not allow electronics in his classroom. Requires 2pt quizzes every week (online) but are due at 12pm on Monday, so are easy to forget.
Communicates the material extremely clearly and does a lot of examples in class that make sense; he always lets his students know that he cares about their success in his class and is always open to questions; best prof I have had so far in psych department
I have had this professor twice now. Once for Research Methods, and now for Cog Neuro. He treats students fairly and offers a ton of extra credit. Although it is true that the reading is pretty boring, he makes the central ideas in lecture interesting & he puts the slides online. The assignments & exams are ok if you study. I definitely recommend.
Dr. Siefke is one of the best professors I've had at OSU. He explains the class material throughly and is extremely helpful during office hours. Even though this was his first time teaching Data Analysis, I believe most of my classmates also loved his teaching style. He gives a lot of extra credit and is a fair grader! Definitely recommend 10/10
Siefke is an incredibly relaxed man. He has very few assignments or expectations, and a lot of the class only shows up for the exams which can be aced from the online posts alone. That being said, I gained a lot from going to lecture because this man is truly personable and funny. He's the type of professor you want to have a beer with. Easy exams.
Brian is one of the best professors I have had at OSU. He is very quick to respond to emails if any issues arise. Easy short online quizzes every week, 3 assignments, and 4 exams (get to drop lowest one). Gives extra credit quizzes and extra questions on exams sometimes. Great lecturer; very helpful to go to class but is not absolutely necessary.
He is passionate about teaching but sometimes gets himself too wound up and confuses terms and concepts leaving himself to clarify his mistake later in an email. Funny guy though and gives you plenty of chances to earn points in extra credit if you show up to class.
I took him for Psych2220 and Psych3513. Dr. Siefke is a great professor who really cares about what he teaches. If you pay attention during class and go over his slides, you'll do good. The material is on the tougher side, but Dr. Siefke does a great job explaining it and making it easy to understand. I wish I could take another one of his classes!
Dr. Siefke is a nice lecturer, and really cares about the content he teaches and your understanding of it. The downside is he often uses a lot of jargon, and he moves at a relatively fast pace as there is a lot of content to cover. Sometimes you can feel overwhelmed because of the amount of information he crams into a short time frame.
I really enjoy Dr. Brians lecture. He is very knowledgeable and wants his students to succeed. Hes very helpful in class and over email if you have questions. For someone who has never taken a stats class ever, he made the material very easy to understand. Highly recommend him!!
Brian is very chill and relatable. He knows his stuff and loves to answer questions in class. Be prepared to read the book and go your notes a lot if you want an A. He makes really helpful powerpoints and tells you exactly what is going to be on the test and what to study which is nice. He also likes to put extra credit on the tests and curves.
What a good guy. This man made a very awful semester for me a little bit brighter with his class. Yes its stats. Yes its sometimes isn't SUPER interesting, but he cares about all of us and you can tell. What a warm spirited professor, he deserves your attention.
Brian is a really awesome professor. He understands a student's life and is overall a genuine person and it shows in his teaching. I definitely had to read the book thoroughly because he sped through the lectures every time with a bunch of info, but I still went because he sometimes gave extra credit. I was worried about the course but he was great
This is my second class with Brian, and I found him to be GREAT for 2220. He goes over material time and time again and truly acts like a "servant to the students." 6 HW assignments (about two hours each), 4 exams (multiple choice 40 questions), and weekly online quizzes (most end up being extra credit). Show up to class bc he gave out EC 3 times!
Professor Siefke is the most helpful professor I've ever had. I had him for Cog Neuro and Research Methods, both topics that could be very dry and uninteresting. However, Professor Siefke's fascination with psychology is infectious which makes the topics all the more bearable.
At OSU Ive had so many professors not take the time to address individual student needs, but Professor Siefke has been considerate and helpful so far this semester! Its not even the end of the semester, so the fact Im taking the time to write this should say something about the quality of his character. Deff select his class. Worth it.
Amazing teacher, 10/10
Brian is more than happy to answer any and all questions in class and his lectures are very clear and interesting. His love and passion for neuroscience is clearly demonstrated everyday in lecture. He is a very understanding guy and truly cares about his students. 11/10 take Siefke if you can !!.
Dr Brian is a great professor and cares a lot about his students and making sure you grasp the concepts of psychology. I recommend reading the textbook so you don't have examples of studies/cases that may appear on the exams. Daily pop quizzes are a thing so attendance is basically mandatory because points for the class are scarce. Overall great.
He's very kind and wants his students to do well. The content wasn't hard at all, I thought. The quizzes he makes us do every week are annoying, because they're due at noon, so it's easy to forget. The learning lab offers extra credit, so go there!! Also, get help from there for assignments. Overall, a manageable stats class!! Take him!
Siefke is a good lecture and is very helpful with any questions. I thought his class was extremely hard, but I ended up with an A. I have talked to Neuroscience majors (I'm a Psych major) and all of them say that his class is easy. So it just depends on your perspective.
For an introductory neuroscience class, PSYCH 3513 taught by Dr. Brian is definitely not recommended. Unless you are trying to minor/ major in neuroscience and this is the only available class, I recommend taking other classes. Even though I got a good grade, looking back I spent so much time on this class when I only took it for my requirement.
I'm sure he's usually a better professor, but in these weird COVID-19 circumstances he was... frustrating and unwilling to adjust his course accordingly. His tests are difficult, but the 3 other assignments were easy (but also time-consuming busy work). Attend lectures, test questions sometimes directly refered to lecture content not on the slides.
He's a great professor and very caring, but this class was kind of difficult. Assignments are really time consuming and a pain and his exams are somewhat difficult. Even if you study, you'll see something confusing on there you're not familiar with. He does give extra credit though which is nice and helps. Also drops your lowest exam score!!
Siefke is a fantastic professor. I took Intro to Cognitive Neuroscience with him, and I've never taken a college-level STEM class but he explains everything very clearly and genuinely cares about making sure we understand the material. He also loves to discuss with students who stay after class and answers every question nonjudgmentally. Take him!
A really funny and caring professor. He makes lectures interesting just by how passionate he is about the material. He is always willing to work with students and homework is minimal. Quizzes only cover material directly covered in lecture, so no need to over study. Great professor, awesome guy.
Dr. Siefke gives *very* good lectures, strongly encourages participation in class and gives a very reasonable workload. He has a great attitude, being very laid back during class and can be funny. He puts a lot of emphasis on reading the textbook but almost all material is still covered in lecture. If you apply yourself, you can easily get an A.
Dr. Siefke was an amazing professor. I could definitely tell that he cared a lot about both his students as well as the material he was teaching. The class was graded based on the best 3/4 exams, 3 papers, and weekly quizzes. He gave plenty of opportunities for extra credit. You do have to know a lot of material, but his exams were straightforward
Dr. Brian is an amazing professor and you can tell he prioritizes the well-being of his students. He teaches the material well and everything is understandable. The exams and quizzes are fair and he gives lots of opportunities for points in class so if you do all the work and attend lecture you should be able to get an A.
Definitely take Dr. Brian if you can! He always says this class isn't a math class but it sadly is (esp. towards the end) BUT he is always there to help and truly wants his students to succeed. He's super laid-back and makes class easy to get through. He does have weekly quizzes but that was the only negative aspect of his class.
I loved having Dr. Siefke for Data Analysis! He's very approachable, and he really wants to make sure everyone understands/is comfortable with the material. I would definitely reccommend staying on top of the reading and taking quality notes, as these will make it easier to follow the lectures and complete the assignments.
Dr. Brian is a great professor, and I really enjoyed 3513. It was a fairly easy class as compared to other neuro classes. I would highly recommend the class and professor!
I took Data Analysis in Psychology with Dr. Siefke and I have to say it is probably one of the most rewarding classes I've had at OSU. The material is rather challenging, but Dr. Siefke does a great job of keeping things easy to follow and make sure that everyone in the lectures are keeping up with him. He offers extra help if you need it, and EC
One of the best neuroscience teachers I have had the pleasure of taking. Funny, respectable, and always willing to help a student. He is very clear with how the class will be graded and drops one of the exams. I did not attend most classes and still achieved a 100% in the class.
Dr. Siefke was a great teacher. I only attended half of the first lecture and never went again. Weekly quizzes were very easy, and you'll need to put in some effort for the exams and assignments but they were still fine. One exam is dropped and there's lots of extra credit from the quiz points. Easy and smooth-sailing class overall!
Dr Brian is a good guy! His class was easy and he goes verrrry in depth on the material. Sometimes lecture can get boring because we would be spending way too much time on some topics. This was mostly due to questions asked by students. I found myself skipping some lectures ONLY because I had a base knowledge of stats. He is really helpful though!
This professor doesnt care about you at all. When you have family deaths and forget to turn an assignment in and ask literally the next day to turn it in he says NO. It sucks because we are going through this tough time with covid, we have to take online courses which sucks even more because its so confusing but death in the family & he says so !
Took his 2220 and 3513, his energy is lil awkward online but works well in-person. 3513 ppt is not as useful as 2220 (you can pass the exam plainly rely on the ppt in 2220). Recommend 2220. 3513 is okay but the content isn't very interesting & need to remember lots of facts.
The Exams are difficult. Weekly quizzes are fine, and Assignments are graded a little harshly. Lectures are not mandatory but try to go around exams for the course. Not graded by many things, so it is important to do well on the things that are graded. Overall, just okay. Dr. Siefke is a really nice guy, though. Just was a lot of information.
Amazing
4 exams, one gets dropped, only 3 assignments which take some time but not very difficult!! I found the class very interesting as a neuro major, and the lectures were clear as he thoroughly explains concepts that students have trouble with. Also, exams are more than fair, the study guides are all you need to do well!
Dr. Brian is great. Exams were fair & straight forward, esp. if you went to class. Lectures were clear & engaging - he made a point to answer as many question as possible & still paced the lectures and material well! You can easily ace the assignments if you put more than minimal effort in (make a draft or two). Was very supportive. Take his class!
There are 3 research papers, 4 exams if I remember correctly and weekly quizzes that are no longer than 5 questions that are review of the chapter done last week. Gives out a few extra credit opportunities although their not worth a lot but extra credit is extra credit. Easy to digest lectures, he is very nice, would take a class he teaches again.
Dr. Brian is amazing. He really cares about you understanding the material. I am not a math person, but I understood every unit with ease because of the way he lays it out. Boils materials down to nuts and bolts, makes sure that you understand WHY the information is helpful in the real world, and is so encouraging of questions. Gem of a professor!
Great professor! Taking him again next semester
GREAT professor! Always available if you need help. He really cares about his students. He always checks to make sure the class is understanding the material. He understands the stress of college students. Overall amazing professor. Always open to answering any questions during lecture with no problem. Would recommend.
Very caring professor. Opportunities for EC, and always open to meet for extra help. Really wants the best for his students.
This is one of the most difficult classes I have taken and barely hung onto an A. This professor is also one of the most passionate, entertaining and engaging educators I have ever had. He kind of reminds me of Jack Black in School of Rock. The book is the densest I have ever read, lectures are dense but I am glad I had this fantastic professor.
Dr. Brian is a wonderful professor! Although he teaches upwards of 300 students per semester, he finds time to answer questions quickly. He clearly puts a lot of thought and effort into his lectures and every interaction with his students. The material is hard but not too hard, and as long as you pay attention and engage you will do well!
Dr. Siefke is very passionate about what he teaches, which makes class fun. While I was hesitant about his "no tech during class" rule, I grew to appreciate it. He knows how to keep you engaged in a lecture. I did not enjoy the 3 written assignments, but they are helpful for future classes in the Psych major. Would recommend him.
Best professor I have had! I am taking his Psych 2220 class next semester because of how amazing he is! He knows what he is talking about and wants to help people understand, he loves when you ask questions! He is very passionate and his midterms are easy, median is usually around 44/50 and you find out your grade right after you take the exam!
Best professor I have ever had! I am taking him again for a stats class next semester! His class is very engaging and he explains things very well, and answers questions very well! The exams are easy as they are not trick questions, they are just like, what is the function of the amygdala? He loves his job and it makes his class wonderful!!!!!
Great professor. This was my second time taking PSYCH 2220 (Stats) and I did way better this time, thanks to Dr. Brian. He was super helpful meeting me for office hours and he really cares about students actually learning. You will do well if you do the reading and go to class. He's also hilarious and makes stats actually kinda fun.
If this your first time taking stats then you need to be going to every lecture or this class will kick your ass. He is a great professor and really really cares about his students. The hardest part of the class is the homework assignments so start them early and go in for help if you need it. He also gives extra credit quizzes which are wonderful
I hated the way he did the presentations, he had all the answers and explained them rather then doing step-by-step teaching. He's a super nice guy but his teaching style cause a good amount of people to struggle. Also, if you take this course I recommend loaning an Ipad from osu to take the best notes.
Dr. Brian is very genuine in wanting his students to succeed. He answers questions in lecture very thoroughly. My only complaint is that lectures started to feel repetitive and a little dry so it was really hard for me to pay attention. That's partially because of the content and partially a me problem too though. He gives some extra credit too.
Weekly quizzes which can be found on quizlets, attendance isn't mandatory but it helps to go to understand the course. Gives 3 larger assignments which re writing heavy but pretty easy. Exams are 50 questions 50 minutes open note online and he gives you several days to complete it. Exams are pretty easy and straight forward. Great guy, cares a lot.
There is a good chance Dr. Brian cares about your education more than you could hope to for yourself. He made me passionate about learning again as a burnt-out senior. Did not allow technology (phones, laptops, or tablets) in class which I hate to admit definitely helped me learn. Exams and quizzes were not difficult and mostly on Quizlet.
Hard exam questions.
Clearly very passionate about the subject and cares about students understanding and succeeding. Can't help but hate the course content, but that's not his fault. Pretty funny guy and he constantly tries to create an environment where people feel comfortable to ask questions during class time despite it being a lecture.
Very smart but hard class. One thing I wish I knew is there is no flexibility with exam conflicts. I had to move a doctor's appt so just plan ahead. You can get extra credit which is good, but exams are difficult!! Overall nice guy and loves teaching.
Dr. Siefke is my favorite professor I have ever had. he does not allow any technology in lecture which alot of people didn't like at first but it works great for me. He is so pationate about the subject matter and does a great job making lectures engaging.
First time teaching the class and he did great! This is part of his interest so he really understood all of the topics. Weekly quizzes and exams. They are easy, just need to make sure you can differentiate between all the terms. But its like your basic psych class honestly! Highly recommend!!!! Exams and quizzes were take home and open note!
Good professor but the way he taught this class does not work for me compared to his cognitive classes that I got an A in. Weekly quizzes, three exams that are mostly conceptually and not math, then you have the assignments. I hated the assignments though, actually the death of me but thats probably me being dramatic. I would recommend someone else
do not take this professor. in class you would think he explains things well and then you take your quizzes and it doesn't align with what he teaches. an overly difficult class for no reason. also finishes lecture notes the day of your test so won't give you much time to review beforehand!
Siefke is hands down my favorite teacher at OSU so far and even made stats interesting and fun. I had his neuro class before & this was WAY different. Not bad, just different content. He's super nice & really wants to help you learn. He is fair as long as you follow the rules in the syllabus. 4 Exams, 6 assignments (kinda hard), and a weekly quiz.
Dr. Siefke is a great guy. If you respect him and the class material, he will do the same for you. He was always willing to meet with me outside of class when I did poorly on a quiz or wanted to review what I missed on exams. Textbook readings are not required but helped me succeed in the class. There is also ample opportunity for extra credit.
Dr. Siefke is a nice person but he isn't a good lecturer. His exams do not align with the material that is presented in class. The class itself isn't worth a lot of points. Be prepared to read and study hard for his exams.
He is by far the best instructor I have had at OSU. (I'm a 3rd year). This was my second time taking this class and it was the lectures that made it for me. Attendance isn't mandatory, but the content of the lectures was AMAZING and actually helped me do well on the Exams. Weekly quizzed with only 4 questions. Homework is just summarizing articles.
SO much hype around this man, I had him for mem and cog and now im in his neuro class. He talks so fast. weekly quizes that if you do poorly on he will not open it to see what you do wrong. his lectures are long and boring and barely covers the content on the weekly quizes. he is very smart and professional but not good for a professor....
Excellent professor. Made lectures interactive & fun. He introduces a lot of material you don't get in other psych classes and he is very fair on grading and extra credit. Very accessible outside of class too, He gave me advice on getting into grad school and is a pretty cool guy. You can basically ask him anything and he will tell it like it is.
Just finished the 1st 3313 Exam. It was HARD. He covered the material in lecture & the lectures are great, but I didn't read enough of the book. I had his cog neuro class before and some stuff is similar, but 3313 is way more detail. He gives extra credit though. Only problem is when other students ask random questions about stuff not on the exam.
The best professor I had, the material is a lot and it combines a lot of bio but if you do the reading and lectures and study you would be in good hands. his lecture are so engaging and genuinely love going to his class. be aware tech is not allowed in the class and you need the old school book and pen in the lecture.
Honestly, I found the way he teaches to be hard to understand and confusing. If you don't read the textbook you will be lost and the exams are hard. He is a very nice guy, but it's a pretty hard course that I would not recommend taking.
Very lecture heavy course with little to no extra information to help you understand material. Weekly quizzes and a few exams and assignments but not many points overall so little room for error. Negative attitude during class and very strict about technology and anything that may come up or go wrong with your device, not willing to help you out.
I learned more from Dr. Brian than any other prof in at OSU. Don't know why there are low ratings because he is totally fair and the lectures are awesome. You have to read. Its a college course after all. He will also meet with you and help with the hard topics. No devices allowed in class, but honestly it is nice to not have the distraction. GOAT
Dr. Brian is one of the best psychology/neuroscience lecturers at the university. He has a no technology rule during class, which truly is justified after you hear his reasoning. If you are passionate about ipad notes, don't take his class. Otherwise, he is amazing.
Dr. Siefke is one of the best professors at OSU. He for sure knows his stuff when it comes to neuroscience/psych. He is also always willing to help his students outside of the classroom. I recommend going to class as it will definitely help out on exams. As long as you put effort into the class and do the work you should do just fine.
Brian Siefke. I am in his cog neuro class and some of the exams have been next to impossible. I come to every lecture and study so much. He is very knowledgeable and talks about his PhD but I think sometimes he thinks we have one too. You have to constantly decode what he is saying because he speaks at an insanely high level.
I thought this class was going to be impossible, but Dr. Brian made it interesting and understandable and even fun sometimes. Some of it is biochemistry, which I suck at. He answers any question you have and will meet with you to tutor you through anything. He restored my faith in myself as a student. Hard material, but worth taking from this prof.
Dr. Brian is by far my favorite professor at OSU. He is genuinely so interested in making sure his students succeed and understand the material, and he is so down to earth. If you're not the biggest fan of reading then I would advise not taking this course. If you read the textbook and attend all the lectures then you'll be in good shape.
This class and lectures fell very short. He is extremely strict when it comes to technology, has very difficult exams, and has extremely dense lectures. He rushes through slides & materials which are all extremely wordy, yet don't match up with the exam study guides so you are forced to look elsewhere. His exams are not straight forward at all.
The technology rule is pointless. Good luck passing when the exams are 40x harder than the lectures. He is not good at responding to and helping students when in need.
Some people hate Dr. Brian's no tech rule, but I loved it. The lectures are great and actually fun if you aren't distracted by a screen. I learned better without it. If you do the reading and go to class, you will do ok. He was also very helpful to me during office hours. I really struggled with the material, but he helped me get an an A.
Very friendly professor. Made me not hate stats. Made everyone comfortable & always says there are no stupid questions. Stats is boring but this prof made it less so. I thought I was going to fail, but he actually helps you learn if you go to class & ask questions.
Horrible professor.
Whatever you do, do you take this professor. Extremely hard exams, so much content, and no tech allowed in class. Choose someone else if you would like to get the most out of your education
Dr. Brian was genuinely one of the best professors I've had. The material he teaches is difficult and it can be confusing, however he does his best to define or explain words/concepts that are challenging. As long as you read the textbook, show up to lectures, and put in an effort to study, you will be fine. Would 100% take another class with him.
This course is challenging if you have not been exposed to statistics or haven't taken it recently. The professor offers so many opportunities to receive help and truly wants you to succeed. I had a rough start but got through it because of the help he gave and the learning lab workers. He focuses on conceptual concepts so be sure to pay attention
You have been warned. Please do not take this professor. You will have no social life, This class is so unreal. Super fast pace, high level and so much content. He never gets through all of his lectures, but don't worry...You will be quizzed on the things he didn't teach. Sitting in every lecture and taking notes won't even help you.
Dr. Brian is hands-down the best prof I've had at OSU. I took 2220 with him and he helped me a lot. In the neuro class he doesn't allow laptops or phones, but honestly, I found it helpful to actually focus and listen. I don't know why other people give him low ratings because everything he does he tells you about in the syllabus on the 1st day.
Awesome prof. Had him once for stats and behavioral neuro this spring. You gotta do the reading, but the lectures are the best. Definitely use the study guides to prep for Exams. No devices in the neuro class, but that actually helped me a lot. I could listen to him talk all day, and he really tries to listen to the students in the room. GOAT
Do not take this professor. His exams and quizzes are overly worded and frequently have more than one correct answer and your job is to pick the most correct answer. Studying, creating practice tests, and elaborative rehearsal likely won't save you. If you like studying 30 hours a week for a B, this class is for you.
Liked him for PSYCH2220, but I really disliked this class. He doesn't get through lectures on time and gets off topic a lot. He really cares about what he does, but this class stressed me out way more than it should've.
Dr. Siefke is a great lecturer and breaks down confusing case studies so that they are understandable. The exams can be difficult because they cover a lot of content, however, he gives you a study guide so you know exactly what to study. Attendance isn't mandatory, however, I cannot imagine doing well in the class if you do not attend lecture.
Best prof I've had at OSU in 3 years. Great lectures & does interactive experiments. Lots of extra credit with quizzes every week. Definitely helps to go to class & you have to read the whole book. Helps to go in office hours, too. Smart guy. Doesn't allow electronics in class, but makes the time worthwhile. I'm taking his neuro class in spring.
Though I found Dr. B's class engaging in some aspects, I found his no tech policy demeaning for the expectations he places on his students. He somehow lacks both the ability to concisely present the material and time management skills necessary to fully covering everything. He also constantly asks for student suggestions and then ignores them.
He's very enjoyable to listen to in lecture; however, he often goes off topic and lecture didn't help me much for his very hard exams. He is also very strict with deadlines and his no phone policy. His assignments in this class will take you at least 3 days with no distractions. It was unecessarily hard and couldnt see my grade the entire semester.
This class was one of the best I've ever had at OSU. Interactive lectures, A quiz every week, and you can use the slides or the book. 3 Assignments that are summarizing research. Exams aren't hard if you go to class and do the reading. No phones in class, but it actually helped me focus more.
OK, I am not a math person, and this class was HARD for me. The book was ok, but going to class helped and going to Learning Lab and office hours REALLY helped. He's super nice and will spend time helping you figure it all out. Lots of EC too, which I would have died without. He's fair and really wants the best for his students.
