Hard, but very good professor. Explains things clearly and will give out sample exams before each test that are formatted exactly like the test will be.
Probably one of th emost challenging classes I've taken so far. Skromme's tests are difficult, with very low class averages. He does not allow graphing calculators, so brush up on your scientific calc skills. However he is an excellent teacher, and works hard to ensure you understand the material. I would highly recommend him, just work hard.
He uses his own notes, which are much much better than the textbook. He definitely knows the material and can explain it well. The exams are not easy, but are not tricky in any way. Remember, wave functions are ALWAYS CONTINOUS.
if you have option to take this class with someone else, don't take it with Skromme. It's not an easy class and he doesn't make it any easier.
HE IS VERY HARD!!!! and insensitive
hard as hell, belittles you when you ask for help, does not curve!!!!!! stay far away!
Circuits is a tough class regardless of who the professor is. However, once I realized I was going to fail if I didn't do something fast and went to Skromme's office hours, he helped me quite a bit. He gives in class problems and pop quizzes, to keep you coming to class. If you do everything he assigns, including the reading, the class is ok.
The class seems easy but He doesnt make it any easy. Too much unnecessary information. Doesnt curve. Dont ever take a class by this guy.......He shud just stick to research not teaching
He is a pretty good teacher, but he can be kind of annoying at times. He spent a lot of time during lecture talking about trivial things, which put the lecture off-schedule. Despite this, he still assigned the homework, even though he hadn't taught it to us yet. He was also very nitpicky on grading.
He's a really smart professor and he certainly knows his stuff but he's very ambiguous with his directions and he's a very difficult grader. If you go in to his office hours he'll make sure to help, but he'll condescend you in the process. It's not the end of the world if you have Skromme, but try to avoid him if possible.
A great teacher, explains things clearly and completely, and gives good reviews for the exams. Not too hard on the eyes either.
Tough Grader, very picky. Skromme is helpful, but you have to make sure to go to office hours, especially for lab reports. Good teacher, tough excel assignments. Make sure to attend classes.
HORRIBLE professor! Assigns too much homework, his exams are ridiculously hard. Very incosiderate, and has no compassion for students. Doesnt use Blackboard, so you dont know what you grade is until the last week of school so you cant even withdrawl anymore...stay away from him, and take this class with another professor if you can
Not a bad teacher, but need the book to make sure you understand his lectures. His lectures can be a bit dry but the information is there so take notes and make sure you get 100% on hw's cause thats all the test is on.
Great lecturer, even if it does get a little dry at times. Just go to office hours and Dr Skromme is really helpful.
This is honestly a hard class, the homework that is assigned honestly doesn't make you think you are learning much because it is so difficult and lengthy. However, Skromme is not a bad lecturer, it can get VERY dull, but he isn't a bad teacher. I would say look at other options first, but he isn't a bad choice.
Skromme is a fast lecturer, but he does it in an intuitive manner. The class will seem easy at first, but it will get harder when you get to AC circuits. He is very helpful and sets up a lot of test reviews so go to them!
Overall a very good professor, just make sure that you go to Office Hours. He's a little fast and intimidating during lecture, but explains very well one-on-one. Tough but fair grader.
Tough grader, tons of hw.
Circuits is a difficult class unconditionally, Prof. Skromme knows his stuff very well. He is a fast lecturer and has very high expectations. To do well in this class you've got to put in the work plain and simple. He assigns textbook readings, DO THEM, SERIOUSLY! And to whoever said he doesn't curve, FALSE! HE DOES CURVE! A 64.7% was a HIGH C!
This is a physics class, so if you're into physics, absolutely take it. A lot of quantum mechanics stuff but the way he presents each idea makes it seem intuitive. He takes a very methodological and pedagogical approach to the material. I don't know how someone couldn't learn in his class. He'll challenge you but I think he is an ideal professor.
If you are serious about learning the material take Dr. Skromme's class. His course was very difficult but I never lost interest because he is an amazing lecturer. Be prepared for a lot of homework, but if you can do all the problems the exams with not be an issue.
I thought Dr. Skromme was a great teacher for this class. He knew all the material extremely well and really focused on the concepts which made understanding everything much better. He was also very practical about what we need to learn for the future which is super nice.
He's brilliant but arrogant. Tests are hard conceptually, and no written cheat sheet allowed. Expects everything from prior courses to be remembered (eg half-angle and double-angle trig identities along with their respective derivatives and integrals). When asking questions, he might respond with questions if considered "basic"
He is a very tough teacher, I found it very difficult to learn from him in lecture, the exams are tough and no cheat sheet is allowed, at the end it's up to him what grade you deserve.
He is a very very tough professor, avoid him, he gives final grades so weird, me and two others had the same points at the end, and we all received different grades.
Would not recommend him to anyone, obviously a smart man, but an awful teacher. His tests are hard, and he has a joy of giving grammar and spelling corrections, even though its a EEE class. wouldn't recommend him as I feel he didn't connect well with me as a student and that he is only really helpful in office.
Love him. Clearly knows what he is talking about. He is a little condescending because he is so smart, so he expects you to know everything he is saying before he teaches it, but he knows how to portray the concepts very clearly. Exams are very similar to his review guides and he holds a review session before every exam. He sees the effort put in.
This guy is awesome! Beware -- he can be a little pedantic about units and defining conventions used in your diagrams. I'm a huge physics nerd, though, so I kind of loved it. This is a tough subject, but Professor Skromme knows EXACTLY what he's talking about and will skillfully take any questions. He's funny in a nerdy engineer way. He rocks!
I would totally recommend this professor. He really cares about his students. He is the only professor I had in college until now who gives you problems solve problems to solve in class and walks around to help you understand and do it by yourself. I will definitely take him again for another class if I can. Don't listen to people who say he's hard
Excellent Professor. Quantum Physics is not an easy topic but he explains it quite clearly. A lot of lecture time, but class goes very fast imo. Very responsive to email and in office hours. One of the most fair professors I have had. Old school class layout (no online grades until the end), so make sure to chat with him to find out. GO TO CLASS.
Circuits was a difficult class for me and I had to take it twice. Skromme was definitely the better teacher for me and I really felt as though I was learning the material well. He can be very picky about grading and make you feel dumb for not knowing some of the things he does, but he really knows what he talking about. Final is very tough.
Under any circumstances, do not take this professor. He has extreme difficulty explaining concepts to students, extremely arrogant, and incredibly rude during office hours. The single-handedly worst professor I've had at ASU.
This guy definitely cares only about engineering and absolutely nothing else in his life. Smart person, but he is so old-school with Blackboard and lectures that I think it is time he stops teaching and sticks to research. Seems to take joy in proving that he is smarter than everyone else in the room. Hope he gets a family or something
Terrible professor, AVOID AT ALL COSTS! During the semester he reported half the class for using online resources like chegg but also NO tutoring allowed and NO peer to peer collaboration, otherwise you get an academic dishonesty violation. The only way to learn is to fail the homework and then wait for the solutions to be posted. Don't take HIM!!!
Can be pretty condescending at times, and is quick to anger when he has to explain concepts that he believes we should already know. However, he clearly loves the material and cares deeply about his students' success. Don't forget the dirty 'P' word. You will lose a lot of points if you mess up signs and/or units.
Genuine and reasonable person. Good at teaching. Tough material, he explains it well with plenty of examples. The online homework is a program that he wrote which is very helpful in learning/mastering the material. The class ramps up exponentially after the first exam. Know your Trig, Calc, Diff Eq. One of the best prof. I've had at ASU.
This professor actually sucks. This was my 3rd year at ASU and he was by far the worst of them all. When I say this I am not joking in any fashion. He WILL ask students questions during class, and if you do not know what the answer is he will make sure you know how dumb you are and essentially berate students that don't know the content well.
He is extremely knowledgeable but has difficulty relaying it to his students over Zoom. One of his favorite things to do is to randomly call on students and he tends to be condescending towards them when they don't know the right answer. You'll also lose more points than you'd expect for small errors on exams. Try to find a different professor.
Professor was incredibly rude to people who didn't know "basic" stuff, and class was not fun to attend as a result. Lots of HW, but only matters if you miss one, because your grade won't go up but it will go down. Exams are insane and require hard curves to prevent class from failing. Minor errors lose you lots of points, and our averages were bad.
I didn't think he was a very good teacher and 90% of the time, th learning came from homework he assigned which was one of the few things that helped me learn. He gets frustrated very easy and can harm the effectiveness of his lectures. The homework is extremely tedious, especially when assigned over thanksgiving break and its due the next Monday
Skromme can sometimes come across as condescending. But, if you are paying attention and follow along in class, you should know what's going on. Go to the study sessions before exams - they are very helpful. Exams are difficult, but there is plenty of study material to prepare. Despite how long it takes, Circuit Tutor is very helpful.
So much homework for the course, the textbook professor wrote is incredibly confusing and hard to understandand. Terrible guy and one of the worst professors I ever had. No idea how so many students rated him so high.
This course mainly uses his software 'Circuit Tutor'.This absolutely expedited my understanding. Compared to my peers' professors Brian gave the least amount of homework and the lectures were great for student engagement, hence he may expect you to know the answer when he calls on you. If you don't know the answer don't be ashamed, you're not alone
One of the worst professors ive had yet. Super harsh grader on the exams, the average for the final was 50 percent that says alot about him. He is condescending, super picky with everything, calls on people in class instead of just being a decent professor! AVOID LIKE COVID
40% of my class either got an E, D, or dropped the course. Genuinely one of the most condescending professors I have ever met. Get ready to be expected to know topics in Diff Eq, Phy131, MAT343, and units for electricity early on in the course. If you are an EE major, avoid him like the plague. Insane test expectations and short HW deadlines.
Overall a bad professor. Ups: hw is through Circuit Tutor, less hw compared to other prof(s), curve at the end of the course, exams are similar to the practice exam. Downsides: belittles you if you can't answer his question, hard to understand his lectures, tough grader. Tips: Diff Eq, have a basic idea of circuits, read the book. AVOID IF YOU CAN
I'm writing this review to just say that circuit tutor is awful, not even taking circuits with him right now. Just needed to let you know you use his old 90's level coded software that runs like garbage. And its a huge chunk of the class
352 is a very hard class: you start off with quantum and transition to solid state devices. You will need to understand your calc, diffeq, and E&M extremely well in order to excel in his class, as QM and solid state build off of E&M. Dr. Skromme gave excellent lectures and gave good help. Book is well-written but dense, due to the tough material.
The course was difficult. Dr. Skromme is brilliant. Good TA. There is a lot of reading so I advise getting started on that part as soon as the homework is assigned. The textbook is not great, but it has some useful information regarding the derivation of the equations that are used in the course. There is a lot of complex algebra towards the end.
I was scared before bc his reviews were SO bad, but literally his class is not hard at all. His tests are EXACTLY the same as his practice exams which are EASIER than the homework. The only reason why he is a 4 is bc he has the worst attitude ever (gets pissed off if u dont know the ans) & due dates are VERY close giving u like 3 days.
Skromme is extremely clear and organized which makes him a wonderful professor for students who like structure. He makes topics seem ridiculously simple even when the topic is actually complex. His "frustration" other reviews refer to is often very justified. You should not be in a junior/senior ee class asking about what resonant frequency is
I wish I could give this professor a 0 I could. He is very socially awkward so going to his office hours is a waste of time. He is rude and not straightforward. No late acceptance on homework, even if you had a good excuse. Lectures are a big waste of time, you don't learn anything. This class was a nightmare combined with the awful TAs.
I really don't understand the bad reviews. Prof. Skromme is an amazing professor who really cares about his students. He is one of the best lecturers at ASU, by far. This class isn't easy, but you will do fine if you just attend lecture and do the circuit tutor homework. He truly wants you to know the material.
One of the hardest and best classes I've taken. Requires coming to every class, being present, taking notes, and participating to really understand. Skromme teaches very conversationally so if you don't participate and answer questions, he can get frustrated and get condescending, but he's passionate about circuits and it shows. I've learned a lot.
Condescending, Rude, Expects you to be an expert in the subject.
He's extremely condescending and spiteful. If you take his class, be prepared to be criticized and called out for not being able to read his mind. He asks questions in a way where he trails off and expects you to fill in the blank where the answer he is expecting is neither obvious or something one would think of. Worst professor ever.
Homework is crucial for test preparation. Study guide is similar to test. Requires math skills like integration and differential equations; however nothing too complex. The first third of the class is about circuit analysis techniques with resistors; master this and the rest of the class will be much easier. Teacher can be condescending & rude.
While he can come across as condescending, he is still the best professor I've ever had. The class is demanding and he grades exams pretty harshly, but, if you put in the time and pay attention, you will learn a ton from a clearly knowledgeable professor. Seriously, I might even changed majors to EE because of how much I enjoyed the class.
IDK why he's getting some 1 or 2 ratings, but IMO he's a good professor. His exams are based on his lectures so attending to class is mandatory. He always holds exam preperations and I think it is NECESSARY to go because he covers some content and gives you hint from the exam, however 80% of the class doesn't attend. Learned a lot from him tbh.
If you are not a greasy haired, nailbiting, antisocial and jobless student, then u will struggle in this course If you have a life be prepared to suffer Prof does not care about student learning talks down on ppl who ask questions Test are free response. Textbook = useless No outside help available Homework takes HOURS Avoid at all costs
Honestly I hated this course and would give it a 1 star if I rated purely based off of difficulty and grading. If you are not a ee student I would not recommend, and you will feel dumb after every conversation with him. However, office hours are everyday of the week, he does care about his students, and you will learn a ton. Just be wary please
It's a difficult class; but, if you do the homeworks, attend lecture, and go to office hours to ask about parts you aren't understanding, then it really isn't too bad. His lectures are super helpful, but I feel like a lot of my understanding came from his Circuit Tutor homework program, especially on subjects I felt touchy on.
He sounds JUST like Merrick Garland. It's uncanny how similar. Other than that, he's an okay professor, he just comes off a bit rude sometimes. It's a difficult class so some self-studying is necessary.
Skromme may be somewhat blunt if we don't give an answer, but I'll never regret taking his class. I can certainly say that I have learned plenty about circuits, and a lot easier than expected to understand. Tests are hard, of course, but exactly what he discusses. (If you take EEE202 just for credit, not to understand circuits, don't take him.)
There will be multiple part of this review if I'm even allowed to do that because this needs to be said. I had a 4.0 going into this semester and this professor is pretty much the sole reason everything is gonna tank. The guy is a certified genius, sure, but an absolutely god-awful professor.
If you're in electrical engineering and want to make your future classes easier, then that is the only reason I would consider taking this class. He is very harsh on grading and tests are that much harder. This also applies to his homework. He can come off a bit rude but truly wants his students to be great at circuits. Rough Intro class however...
VERY tough grader and the tests are difficult themselves. Don't get me wrong he is good at circuits but as a professor overall, not so much. Hard to pay attention to his class since it's very slow and not enthusiastic. Quite condescending and expects you to know a a lot. Good luck with asking for help or even getting a response back from an email.
Skromme is a certified genius, and a fantastic lecturer, going to class is worth it. However, he is a miserably cruel grader on exams, taking off full points on the smallest of mistakes, and creating exams that are as difficult, if not harder than the HW. Speaking of HW, he assigned 10-12 hours worth of HW due the weekend before finals. >:( BADPROF
Tough grader, but he's a funny guy. He's very personable and understands the content. Tests are similar to the practice tests. Highly recommend.
Always do homework as it is a large percentage of the grade. Do not forget any units or details, I forgot a ground in a circuit and got 6 points off a test. Circuit tutor though helpful in understanding how to solve circuits, the reading at times was way to long to engage with. If you don't go to lecture you probably won't understand the homework.
Skromme is a pretty good teacher who can teach the subject very well, however the amount of homework that he assigns is sometimes overwhelming, and his grading sometimes contained mistakes I had to email him about. Overall great guy, great teacher.
Professor Skromme is a great guy, very knowledgeable and cares about his students. However, the grading of the tests is extremely harsh you miss up the tiniest thing and you lose 90% of the points. He isn't lenient with homework like other professors as you don't get any credit past due date. Very accessible outside class and is willing to help you
Homework for this class is on Circuit Tutor, and towards the end of the year, the assignments take hours per problem. The written homework is graded extremely harshly. There are two exams and a final in this class for which he grades extremely tough. Skromme isn't understanding and is incredibly awkward.
Skromme's lectures are quite good, he loves what he does and shares that enthusiasm with his students. However, his grader is a horrible person who will mark you down by a lot for the smallest of errors, in exams and homework. He has strict grading standards, but the content is actually manageable and he does a good job breaking it all down.
Very good lectures, but very tough grader, would be unreasonable if he didn't curve. He usually did well with preparing students for his exams; I think they taught me more than I learned by failing every single homework assignment due to the harsh grading. Class was stressful because of this. Score near the class average on exams and you'll survive
Skromme is one of the best lecturers I've had in a while, with a great textbook; the only negative is how harsh the grading is and how much homework there is. Insane how there's no error-carry-forward in a physics/math-based class. Other than that, he teaches the material in an intuitive way and prepares you for his tests well. Curve at the end.
He gets a lot of shade from students that may have struggled in his class. However, I learned the most Ive ever learned in one class from him. He wrote a very detailed notes packet, that has ALL the information your need and all his lectures walk through the notes. Fun to participate and answer questions in class! Be wary of long homeworks.
He is a really harsh grader and is pedantic with everything you write, even if you write a personal reference on a test or hw for your own template or help, he'll cross it off and doc you points thinking its something for the submission. In addition, every time you ask questions, he'll give a disgruntled expression like he is inconvenienced.
Skromme is very knowledgeable and experienced both as an engineer and educator. His lectures are easy to understand and he is very thorough and patient. The only reason I can't give him 5 stars is because of how poorly designed his Circuit Tutor software is, it crashes often and difficult to navigate; be prepared to spend an hour on one problem.
Professor Skromme is an excellent professor. Some dislike him because he grades very tough, and you have no choice but to read the introductory tutorials in circuit tutor. REALLY read them to understand the topics. His lectures are excellent and you will learn circuits VERY well if you pay attention and do the readings.
If you're in EE, Skromme will make you truly learn and understand circuits through what feels like brute force from homework, lectures, and the exams. If not, probably better to find someone easier as you don't really have to understand the material the level of depth he teaches at. He is VERY knowledgeable on what hes talking about. a little scary
Overall, Professor Skromme is an excellent professor; he is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject he teaches. The tests are often similar to what we are given in the practice exams. My only nitpick with him is that he created a program called Circuit Tutor, which has its fair issue of bugs, especially if you are on an Apple computer.

Great professor, I wouldn't recommend if you're not an EE though. Test 1 and 2 are easy enough if you practice the review. Final is 90% Laplace and way harder than the review so don't expect it to save your grade. About 35% of the class failed and only about 30% passed with a B or higher. Lectures are very proof and theory heavy.
Not going to lie this class had me fighting for my life. However, Skromme does give you everything you need to succeed, you just have put in a lot of time which can be difficult if you're juggling a lot of classes. Finished this class with a pretty thorough understanding of circuits.
I would recommend only for ee majors as he sets u up well for the future. His lectures are great, and the hw for the most part is not that hard, just time-consuming. The reason I don't give him a 4 is cuz he is a pretty tough grader and the last 3rd of the class is rushed, making the final pretty hard. (First 2 tests are just hw problems).
