I loved this class! Definitely one of my favorites! Dr. Wainscott made all the material fun and interesting and made the class an enjoyment. He was very concerned about having ALL the students learn the material, too. He was a great teacher!

I don't like bio at all and i'm not good at it but brian W. is very cool teacher, funny. But u have to study all of your notes for the test. The study guide is like 180 question

Nice teacher. Very helpful and interesting lectures. He provides the notes and study guide on webct, so really all you have to do is show up and listen to his lecture because he adds information that are not on the notes. And clarafies everything the notes.

He is VERY nice! He is very helpful, gives you a lot of info but it HELPS! He is very enthusiatic about Biology and makes it an enjoyable experience. Makes a hard class fun and painless. Although he put up with too much with some terrible annoying student (crazy girl in front row!)...but hes one of the best prof.'s yet! A++ for Brian!!! :)

He is hard, but he is fair and if you study he is very helpful, but you only get out what you put into it.

He is the coolest teacher EVER!I don't know why that other person said the notes were not on the quizzes.I haven't even really read any of the book because his notes and lectures are so useful!He's funny, enthusiastic, and makes lectures a blast!He's very creative with using visuals to help students understand the subject matter.Highly recommended!

Great man. Very challenging and not always clear with direction - you must ask specific questions to get specific answers. He wants you to do the work and that can be challenging. Use the study guide daily - that will make or break your grade and pay attention in class. He hints throughout the lectures about "test material". Very kind & helpful.

I love his class. The teacher is very helpful; he makes you understand the terms in a fun way. So if you go to class and listen to his class you are not gonna have any trouble on the exam. I would highly recommend his class

He is a helpful teacher but the class itself is very challenging, by far the hardest of my semester. Make sure to attend class even though it is not mandatory as he will cover material not in the study notes in class. Study hard and you will do well.

Fun teacher! I love how he talks about frogs somehow during each class, he makes hard concepts easy to understand in interesting ways, I did learn a lot as well. I would definitely take one of his classes again.

Brian is by far the best teacher you could ask for to teach biology. He loves what he does and it shows. He is very charismatic in class which makes it fun to attend. I recommend printing out the lectures and studying the study questions he gives you. I also recommend him for his lab...HE IS AWESOME!

Prof. Wainscott is awesome. Patient, clear, in-depth and keeps it pretty interesting too. Would definitely be a professor I would want when taking a more difficult science class.

all of the study material is on the tests. if you study you can pass. assignments are easy. for those who didnt pass this class, you are just stupid! if you study, you'll pass with no problem. his class is great and im taking him again next semester.

Excellent professor! He makes sure that everyone understands the material, and uses great examples and metaphors to make science easier. Class is fairly easy, as long as you study and pay attention in lecture it's an easy A.

Can't understand how anyone would have a hard time, all you need to do is study right out of the Power Point notes and it'll be a breeze. Great professor, very interested in his subject, and will definitely help you understand the material. Highly recommended!

I HATE science...but this teacher made biology really interesting to me. He is very good at explaining concepts and answering questions. Attend EVERY class, & review the notes a couple days before tests. Questions come straight from the notes and Assesments. (Don't bother with the extra work he gives online) Easy!

He is an excellent teacher. If you need help, he'll spend as much time as you need helping you out. He gives you a study guide for the test. Everything he'll test you on is on that sheet. His lab is very fun and exciting. I would recommend his class and lab!

I took his class on line and it was the easiest class i have ever taken. Dont buy the book, all his questions come from the lecture which is a podcast. He provides lecture outlines, and if you listen to the lecture, read the outline and study for an hour before the test you should get at least a B in this class. Super easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i agree that the online class is quite easy and the Professor is very helpful and enthusiasticbut expect to spend a lot of time watching the podcasts which get a bit boring..

I love this class. I had no interest in Biology and was dreading taking this class, but he makes it so interesting. And he's so funny. All of his tests are multiple choice/true/false. And he covers the material completely. You really don't even need the book. He provides the outlines and the study questions!! LOVE.. LOVE.. LOVE this class!!! :0)

Professor Wainscott is by far the best instuctor I had this semester. I learned a ton of interesting and useful things and I really enjoyed his lectures. Yes, you have to study for the tests, but he is really straight forward and doesn't try to trick you. If you put effort into studying you should be able to earn an A and enjoy doing it!

Awesome professor. I highly recommend him. He really wants you to learn the material, and works his butt off to make sure you do. He gives you study guides, and also gives you podcasts and power point slides on WebCT in case you miss class, and also to have to study. If you try, there is no reason you should not get an A or B in his class.Great guy

he is a really good teacher. I didn't know much about bio but I still got an A. His study guides are practically the exam itself. He really wants you to learn and cares about his students. He doesn't care if u go to the class, but it is much easier if you go. U don't have to buy the book just photocopy it from the library for the things he tells u.

Prof. Wainscott was a really good teacher. The class can be intense though. Memorizing each of the study questions from note cards enabled me to get an A. I recommend you do the same, it will definitely help. I learned a lot from this class and am glad I took it. No essays or homework, just 5 tests and lots of studying.

After taking this class online, I can firmly say I have learned a lot about ecology. You must read the text book and utilized the chapter notes if you wish to excel. He is very organized, with a detailed syllabus with the due dates noted. Will take again!

Fantastic teacher!!! I currently have him for Bio 189 and he explains biology in a manner that actually relates to students and makes sense. Takes the time outside of class to help students for as long and as often as needed. Don't need the book for this class. He should be at a University- definitely at a caliber above community college professors

He is a fantastic professor and really engages you. I've never been excited to learn about Biology until I took him. Though, I have to level with you... He might be hilarious, but those exams aren't. They are killers! But that's the point of 189. You have to study and really know your stuff.

Great Professor! Attendance is not mandatory but you will want to go to class because his examples really help you understand the material. Biology is not an easy subject and obviously it requires a lot of work on your part. He is clear in his explanations and tries his best to help you understand! I totally recommend him!

Dr. Wainscott is a model professor. FEW of his peers at CSN understand that science courses are both fun and exciting to learn. He makes this class and this subject something to look forward to. It is not an "easy" class, but you will want to study and do well; it is like being introduced to a great new world by a good friend. Best Prof at CSN!

Very engaging Prof. Has humor similar to Bob Newheart (funny but subtle). Extremely welcoming of all questions and does not belittle people. Tests are MC but if you show up, review the powerpoints and go over the book you'll do GREAT!!! Sorry Prof Wainscott, if your reading this but you are not hot!!! LOL!!! (Favorite Subject)

This was my first foray back into a "serious" college course in more than 20 years. So I was nervous about the class. But Professor Wainscott used incredibly effective power point presentations and fun lectures to help me learn. Study those PP slides as if your life depended on it if you want a good grade!

Professor Wainscott knows his biology. His class is based off 4 exams and a final. Study his powerpoints and you will do good on exams. He makes the class interesting and likes to joke. I really enjoyed his class.

I Loved his class, clear when presenting complicated chapters and really trying to explain it as simple as possible. But, you have to study hard bc its not an easy subject and you can't just read it once-you have to really understand the material.Don't get the book, just study the PPT lectures(Loved it) and you will get an A as well.GREAT TEACHER

Wainscott is by far the best instructor I've had at CSN. He's great at making hard concepts understandable, and he's super funny! The person who gave him a low rating obviously didn't put anytime and effort into the course. No matter how great a professor is a lot of time studying needs to be put into the course.

Loved this professor. There is a lot of material to be learned but Wainscott made it easy to comprehend. The study guides make you overstudy but that helps because then you're really prepared for his exams. Had other assignments online, which helped because you were given unlimited attempts. I'd recommed him to anyone who needs to take this course.

The way to an A: do the study guides before each lesson, memorize them word for word, and also look at the figurespictures on his powerpoints. If you do this, i guarantee that you will get an A. He is an amazing professor that makes hard concepts easy to understand.

Very fun class for both lecture and lab. All tests are off PowerPoint presentations which are available online. Has study guides for every lecture which help with his exams. Wish he taught microbiology and A&P because I would definitely love to have him again.

Prof. Wainscott is a good instructor. I have had many college instructors over the years and I would say he does a good job of making the material understandable. His tests are strictly multiple choice and the information is taken directly from the material he presents in class. I would take another class from him and recommend him to others.

His lectures were very interesting and he would joke around making them fun. The tests have a lot of information but do come straight from the study guides. One of my favorite things about his class is how he tried to apply everything to the real world or job opportunities.

Wainscott realy goes out of his way to make lecture and lab interesting and tries to inspire his students. 197 covers a lot of material and he is quite specific on tests so if you aren't great at studying beware but if you put in the time you can get an A. He made us laugh everyday in lecture and truly enhanced my knowledge of plants and animals.

He is a very understanding teacher, offers to give help and to clarify any confusion. He uses stories to help you remember certain concepts better and it actually helps. I had him for lab and lecture, and they were both enjoyable classes. Very approachable, funny, and chill.

I took this class & lab by mistake. I am no bio major but he was very helpful. This is my advice for anyone wanting to take him for Bio 189. - DO NOT buy the text book. You will only need to do 1 assessment out of there and you can just use the copy they have at the library. - Show up to class & do all the study guides. Thats his entire test.

All questions come from his PowerPoint/study guide so I wouldn't sweat the book. Professor W. is a fair grader, and like all sciences you'll have to study. He lets you see what you missed on exams in office hours and was very funny and nice. I never missed a class and it definitely helped a ton. His lab was great as well. 10/10 would take again.

For such a difficult subject, he makes it very interesting. I loved his class. I would take it again if it was free. One of the hardest bio classes that I have taken but he is an amazing professor! Grades are not given, but earned. He will answer all of your questions, tells different ways to study. Absolutely hilarious for lecture and lab.

He is a really great teacher. His tests are unique, and require you to study differently than Bio196. I failed his first test because it was so different than the book. You have to take notes and study his lecture and power point slides. No tests are dropped, i had to get all A's on other tests and then be in his grace for an A, because i had a B+.

loved how he wouldnt mention anything you didn't need to know or how he'd relate the concepts to something in our own lives that could help us remember. i would print out the slides and do the study guides after each lesson. Biology 189 is a difficult course and I know it would have been way worse if I had a different instructor. He's a great man.

He is so hilarious in class and the jokes that he makes during class really stick in your head when it comes to the test. He is super laid back and his exams are all multiple choice and aren't super wordy and confusing. I would take him for every subject if I could.

Beware though, his lab quizzes are not easy, lol, they can be deceptively difficult so you'll have to study for those if you want to score well.

He will tell if something will not be on a test so you don't waste time on something you won't need to remember. TAKE HIM!! Just wish he taught bio 251, 223 and 224.

Great professor, I had him for the lab only, wish I had him for the lecture. Very helpful, willing to stay after class or make time for you if you needed it. Always post grades on canvas, very funny professor, attendance is mandatory. Everyday you have a test but he explains what will be on it and as long as you follow his instructions, easy A.

Amazing professor! Learned a lot from his lectures. The material was understandable due to him making it relatable and humorous. Try your best to get him for lab and lecture. This professor is amazing! I am taking Biology 189 for the second time and oh gosh, I wish I took the class with this professor to start with! He makes everything so clear to understand! If you don't understand, he answers your questions and gives examples for better understanding! Record his lectures and then listen to them using his slides!

This was my first bio class and Brain was amazing. He gives you all the tools to pass you just have to focus mainly on his slides for exams rather then the review questions he gives out. Great professor, he Made lecture fun and enjoyable.

He is one of the best professors I've had ! I passed his Bio 189 class with an A !!! This is after I failed Bio 189 last semester. Make sure you do all the study guides for the lessons , a lot of the questions are on the test and it helps you understand the material. Print out all his slideshows and READ every word on his slide shows.

He has a couple built in assignments that will boost your grade in lecture. Don't take this class if you're squeamish about dissection. BIO 197 you WILL dissect creatures. He is really passionate about teaching and it shows> His power points are amazing and if you take notes and review his power points you should have no problem passing his class. This professor was the best! Bio 189 is a hard course overall, but he made it easy and fun as it can get! I took him for lab and lecture and I would def take him again. His tests are off his powerpoint and the book is not required but it was helpful to get more information to understand the material! He was awesome!

He's a good professor! This class is tough, but he teaches well. Everything on his powerpoint is on the exam. As long as you study the power points then you will do good! He does not go over the exam and his grades only consists of exams. He also drops the lowest exam grade so that's good!

Wasnt required to attend his lecture classes unless their was a test or quiz. I do think that I couldve done better if I did go to all of them. He does modules so no text book was required for lec. You do have to attend all the labs. Make sure you study the last lab for the following week for the quizzes he gives them to us beginning of class.

Brian is funny and likes to use objects and students to get you to understand the lecture. You have to study the slides he has for you (they will be on the exams). I did not have to use the text book at all. You do have to study a lot. I wish he taught other Bio classes.

This professor was hands down my FAVORITE teacher of all time! I can not express how wonderful he is, he is available for professor hours, so if you are struggling there is no reason you can't get help. HIs love for the subject shows in his teaching and has inspired me to look more into biology as a career path, as I am currently Pre-Med student.

At this point in your academic course, attendance shouldn't be an issue if you really cared about your education. Therefore, my review will be based on the fact that you're a student that does his/her part. Yes, this course is dense. However, he posts his powerpoints online and has lenient office hours. There's no reason why you should fail.

Prof. Wainscott is amazing/funny! Class consists of 10 EASY online assessments, 4 Unit Exams, & 1 Final Exam. PRINT OUT his powerpoints and write notes on them. Took 191 lecture and Lab with him. One of the best Professors I've had so far. His lectures are recorded so if you miss a class you're not behind. Professor Wainscott is the best professor I have ever had. His class is very lecture heavy and the only grades are for tests and quizzes. However, he gives you study guides and handouts to help you. Attendance wasn't mandatory because he posts lectures on youtube (lectures are a lot of info but it is relatively easy to understand) 100% recommend!

Professor Wainscott makes biology a lot more enjoyable. He has video lectures on canvas, but I recommend going to the in-person lectures as they are very interactive. His teaching style is very approachable. Fill out his study guides and memorize his lecture slides and dont be afraid to ask questions. Dont expect to pass if you dont study.

Professor Wainscott was my favorite professor by far, he was very passionate about lab and taught you the things you needed to learn. He left you to be on your own unless you needed his help. His quizzes were very easy and were only worth 10 points. He made lab so enjoyable.

Professor Wainscott is one of the best professors at CSN. His lectures were not required. He posted recorded lectures on CANVAS, but I still showed up to every one. He goes into detail over slides and answers any questions you have. His lectures are engaging. There are quizzes for each lesson and a test for each unit. No other assignments

Professor Wainscott was an amazing teacher and he doubled as my motivator! I hope to have more professors like Professor Wainscott in the future. I would recommend his class to all incoming Bio 189 students he is truly amazing!

Haven't taken Biology since HS, Wainscott provides videos so going to class is not mandatory, he really explains things in a solid manner, throws some jokes in there as well. Bio 189 is tough, if you don't study you will fail, but if you study for his class you will pass with flying colors, he provides the roadmap to success. TAKE WAINSCOTT! 10/10

Biology is a hard class in general but his tests were so easy if you just show up to lectures or watch recorded lectures if he posts them.

He is a great professor. He really wants us to pass and do good. He tries to be reasonable in quizzes and gives some good feedback for our lab report. He engages and actually helps us when we are stuck in lab. He is funny and really enjoys Biology. Definitely recommend for Biology 191 lecture and lab.

Professor Wainscott is a really kind person. I took him for Lab and Lecture and to be fair he was a harsh critique during lab (Lab Report Essay), and his lecture notes were filled with a lot of detail that is all important for his Unit Exams. If you take his class I recommend to study everyday until you memorize everything to perform well. GL

Professor Brian Wainscott is funny and makes good jokes. He also cares about students. I enjoy his lecture. However, if English is your second language, it might be tough since he uses big words a lot.

He is very funny and you can tell he loves the subject. For me, his recorded lectures were helpful since I can pause and write any notes. Get ready to study a lot because this class has a lot of info, but as a professor, he was good! Had him for lab too and the lab was easy. 4 Exams, 1 Final, and a quiz for every 3 /4 lectures.

Best professor available. Attendance is not required and all in person lectures are available as online recorded lectures on canvas as well. No homework and only graded on unit quizzes and exams. Its a very hard class, but you are given all the resources needed to pass the class and Wainscott has some of the best and funniest lectures to back it up

I wish I could have had him for lecture, but only lab for BIO189. He is funny, and relatable. Lab was fun, quizes were easy for the most part if you pay attention to his notes. Overall would take again, bummer he does not teach my next science class.

best bio teacher/prof i've ever had in my life. Made everything super easy to understand. Textbook is optional since exam is lecture based. Always asks if anyone has any questions, so don't be afraid to ask if you're confused! Exam grades take a huge toll on your grade since there's very little in the grade book, so make sure to study!(for lab too)

Dr. Wainscott is an awesome and talented professor. He's truly one of the gems at CSN. He's really passionate about his subject matter and you can tell he genuinely cares about students as well as conservation. He makes it VERY clear that getting the textbook or not is your choice, being one of the only teachers actually trying to save you money.

Had Wainscott for both lecture and lab; He is amazing!! (despite getting a C+.) I hadn't taken biology since HS & feel like I could've passed with a B+ or an A if I had committed 100%. Tip! Turn notes into quizlet study sets, study the day of the lecture, & have days dedicated to active recall! Compared to other profs I've heard abt he is the best!

I enjoyed going to his lectures, he seems to really care about the students and he loves when we ask questions! Although, his slides were a bit difficult to understand so i had to find other sources to better understand the topics. We didn't need the lab book at all, and classes are not mandatory! BUT PLEASE STUDY LOTS you will need it!

I learned a lot from this Professor. The exams were very hard, even as multiple choice, but I got used to them rather quickly. Attendance does seem to matter but lectures are also posted online. And thank goodness for that because I had to watch each lecture two to three times! Exams are based mostly on lectures; the book is used only a bit.

I really enjoyed taking Wainscotts class for 189. SOME of his slides can be hard to understand at first, but make a lot of sense and are visually helpful as long as you go to lecture and let him explain. Exams make up the bulk of your grade with quizzes for each topic. He's a great professor to begin in the difficult world of Biology!

Textbook rarely used. His quizzes are mostly made up of his lectures which he post online. Very helpful when you reach out with questions. 6 exams and small online quizzes to take with each section of the unit. Bio is a hard class and you'll have to put in a lot of time studying but he makes it as manageable as it can be. Take him. Great Professor

Great person overall. His tests are all based on his lecture slides. As long as you do your part of studying this class will be easy. Would 100% recommend.

Brian is a good professor, he tells jokes all the time which makes it enjoyable. The workload is alright , not too much. There is total of 6 exam(40 questions taken in person)19 quizzes ( 5 questions each taken at home ). However his lecture are hard to understand, so I would suggest you to watch his video and read the textbook before each class.

Professor Wainscott was a great professor overall, and I would highly recommend him for BIOL189. This is a difficult course; however, it's possible to do well if you attend lectures or watch the lectures online, do all the practice that he posts on Canvas (even though they are not mandatory), and get extra help if needed.

Challenging but rewarding class. Lectures are crucial - watch them closely and take detailed notes. Unstuck ai was a big help with study prep. Recommend for motivated students.

He is a great professor and you can tell he loves what he does. Getting an A is actually achievable in this course if you put in the effort, while I felt BIO 190 was 10x harder. Class is very information heavy, but he does put up study guides.

GREAT lab prof, rly cares abt the subject and genuinely is a fun guy!! Says his expectations clearly, his quizzes are fair, and gives good feedback. Dr. Scott makes lab way more enjoyable.

Highly recommend taking Prof. Wainscott for Bio 189. This is a tough course overall, need to study and put in the time, if not don't expect a good grade. He made lecture enjoyable by giving quirky examples that was relatable to the material, He was also clear and thorough, felt like I set up for success, take him. He knows what he's doing

This professor is great. He provides the slides and the videos. If you strive for an A and don't mind studying you will kill this class! If you do bad on an exam just adjust your studying strategy and you will do better. Also finding a study buddy in the class is so so helpful! He drops your worst exam grade. White board method is great

Professor Wainscott is amazing. Biology 189 requires effort and time in order to succeed, and Wainscott provides all the resources necessary. He posts all the lectures and topic slides online along with other videos that relate to the concepts, so there should be no excuse to not be lost. Exams reflect the study guides and slides; effort = results.

Amazing resources outside of class. You are able to access his lectures and slides at home to study. He includes a study guide for each lesson which comes in handy when making flashcards. The professor makes the lectures fun and engaging with jokes and his quirkiness. Put in the effort when it comes to studying and you'll pass.

I took prof wainscot for 189 and 197 and he is great! His lectures are clear and to the point. He always has some activity to help you understand more of the material. I love that he had prerecorded lectures just in case yiu missed or need additional review, his study guides help ace your exams. Highly recommend him

Professor Wainscott is an outstanding guy all around. He provides lecture videos and study guides outside of class that have a considerable impact on test scores. His in-person lectures were entertaining and memorable. It's a truly challenging course, but he makes learning fun and straightforward, and he genuinely cares for each student.

Professor Wainscott is wonderful! Biology in general is very lecture-heavy, but he provides study guides. There are 6 exams, including the final, and they are only based on his slides! It's very important to study! He genuinely cares about students understanding the material, so ask questions if needed! I would definitely take him again!

YES, during exam questions are heavily worded and makes it confusing if you dont study. Per exams are include 4 chapters base on slides each chapters are heavy (lots of slides). Wish there is more extra credits. You just really need to study for his class.
