He teaches, doesn't just make you read from the book.Tries to keep things interesting by telling small jokes.Allows drinks+food in class if you're discreet(don't bring a 12 inch sub).Gives excellent notes,4 minute breaks, occasionaly lets out 10 min. early
He makes the class really interesting. Wish he taught HISTORY II in a campus closer to my apartment :( .
Mr. Walter loves history. He is a funny guy and gives good lectures. The only problem I had w/ him is that he was pretty disorganized and his young daughter was always getting sick. This seemed to keep him from returning things in a timely matter.
Nice guy. Tests are pretty easy. The lectures seemed slow at times but he lightened it up with jokes and acting silly.
I love Mr. Walter. Took him for 1 and 2 made A's in both. Just go to class and take notes.
Brian's an excellent teacher. I've never been very interested in History, but I loved going to his class. He was always in a good mood and made me laugh often. As long as you show up to class, he'll keep you interested enough to pay attention, which = doing great on your tests!
He gives you all of the notes that you need. Just study the notes and that is what is on the test. Extra credit is offered too and one paper that's only 3 to 5 pages typed, double spaced! VERY GOOD HISTORY TEACHER!! TAKE HIM!!
Great Teacher!! Gives you all the notes that you need to get in the class. Three tests and a paper. Show up to class and take notes and you will do well. Took in 5.5weeks, easy A. Recommended.
Brian is a great teacher. His class was pretty easy and we had no homework. If you take good notes you will do well. The only negative thing to say about him is he takes FOREVER to grade tests. And there is always a B.S. reason for it.
He is a great teacher just like everybody has been saying. Show up take notes and study. he gives you great explanations so you do not really need the book unless he needs you to read a paragraph or two. one paper 4 pages and he gives extra credit :)
Lecture format w/ notes on overhead. Covers the standard History I curriculum, but he's got a good sense of humor, so that makes it more enjoyable. Lets you use old edition. Very little book use. Does not take attendance. Easy writing assignment at end of semester
He is by far the best teacher! He is easy and doesn't care if you have a book or not!
Doesnt care if you come to class or not - says its your grade not his. I never used the textbook...occasionally he would say read these 3 pages but i never did and he went over them the next class. He puts all the notes on the overhead. Just copy them down and study those for the test and you'll do fine. No homework (except studying). Easy
He is an effective teacher. Tests are not very hard-multiple choice, fill in the blank, and Sentence length explinations. He is entertaining to listen too, and trys to make History as interesting as possible. Good teacher! Take this class!
better be the 1st one to sign up for his class, they fill up quick...i never studied for any of the tests and always made excellent grades. he has a great lecture class, just take good notes!
The best history teacher Ive ever had. Expects that you understand the overall purpose and reason that things happened, not the details that are irrelevant (like most teachers!) Big on individual responsibility - its your grade not his! Great sense of humor. Take his class!
Hilarious, effective, laid back. If you attend & take notes you should get a B. Exams NOT cumulative knowledge, so a lil cramming before each exam will get smarties thru w A's. So take good notes! Assgmts r short, easy. Take him! HE IS THE WIN! +1 +1
He is so good I took him for both Hist 1301 AND 1302. I forgot about the assgnmt but all he did was deduct 12 pts off my grade & I still passed. Extra credit only happens 1-2 times & EASY, so take advantage of it, it got me through. If you got HIST prereqs you may as well enjoy em. Take this prof's class.
He is the best history teacher ever!!!. You can not go wrong in his class. Great exams, extra credit. AWESOME!!!!! must take his class.
If you want to great history teacher, he is the one.
Great teacher, great notes. 99.9% of the notes are in the test, he's got an outline on the bored, you just basically have to fill in the details. Doesn't talk to fast, easy to keep up. Attendence mandatory, Tests Fair, and he gives extra credit. Nice Guy, Great History teacher. highly recommend.
Mr.Walter is the teacher to take for both HIST 1301 and 1302, I did and had a lot of fun in his class. History is not my cup of tea and I pass both History classes with "B" he is very passionate about history it can't get better than that.TAKE HIM!!! lots of extra credit.
Super easy exams, attend class, take notes, and study them - Guaranteed A. He had ALOT of personal stuff going on the last 1/2 of the summer semester - so we didn't get to cover too much material. Overall, good lecturer. Easy to understand.
Great teacher! As long as you show up for lectures you'll do fine. His tests aren't all multiple choice, so you do need to attend class. However, amazing teacher, and actually makes the class fun and entertaining. I would highly recommend.
This teacher is ok.. He is really not as great as you might think. He has a variety of questions which makes it good. But not much extra credit. Doesn't really care if you do well in his class.
This teacher is ok.. He is really not as great as you might think. He has a variety of questions which makes it good. But not much extra credit. Doesn't really care if you do well in his class.
Not that great of a teacher. I took this class along with Cellular and Molecular Bio and other harder courses and found this one to be harder. He was rarely in class himself this semester which made it hard for us to cover all of the material in class. He also took 3 weeks to get test back.
Really nice guy! Pretty much all of the test material comes straight from his lectures. If you go to class and take notes, it's an easy A!
This professor is a flake. 60% of the time he cancels class. The other 40% he zooms through his lecture with some lame excuse on why he has to leave early. He hardly ever grades anything on time and he is unprepared. He is funny and has interesting lectures, but that definitely does not make up for his lack of consideration for his students.
Awesome professor! Very energetic during "Lecture". Very easy to take notes. He gives main points on overhead and you add addition notes to it. As long as you take notes and study, even if just reading through notes once or twice, then the tests are easy. Roll is not taken, and there are 3 tests and a paper. Those are the only grades for the class.
Very easy professor. Gives you info you need to know for the Tests and plenty of time to write the one paper assignment. Do not need textbook for class
When Walter made it to class he was a good historian. My gripe is that he didn't email us in advance to warn us that the class cancelled-a waste of time & gas. Never used Blackboard. Tricky test questions so study your class notes/glance through the book/study the Objectives. Gives extra credit opportunity. Nice guy but barely got past WWII.
Worst prof ever! Never shows up to class had an a in the class until he botched my paper and gave me a "c" in the class. He wouldnt even let me see my paper until the next semester. Horrible stay away! I'm an "A" student and got a "c" in a basic class.
Great teacher!! Registered for history 1302 with him!!
I took the 5 week Friday and Saturday schedule and it was a piece of cake. He tells you all the notes you need and doesn't make you read the book. He makes sure all the questions are from his lectures which aren't too boring. I got a 98 and didn't really do much. I recommend him if you want an easy A and don't actually want to learn history.
Mr Walter teaches you history. He doesn't teach you political science, historical theory or in depth historical analysis. He realizes that the majority of his students are only taking his class because they have to. He does not give extra credit for poor performance nor does he have a review. You either learn the material or you take the class over
Really cool professor and very easy! I am not a big history fan and I feel like his class was very easy and I learned a lot. Tests are easy as long as you study the review. Talks very loud and uses funny examples to keep you interested in the class. Highly recommend
Took the 5 week course with him. Classes were Friday evenings and Saturday mornings. I regretted it as soon as I registered, but it was done. Mr. Walter kept lectures interesting and to the point. He did add some comic relief to keep us awake on Saturday mornings. I recommend him and plan on taking him for HIST 1301.
Great teacher! Engaging, funny, and makes class super easy if you attend. Tests follow his lectures exactly. So go to class, take notes (he makes it easy with overheads), and enjoy!
Brian rules. Easy as that.
i took this class for a 5-week course. I wish I had taken this same professor for 1302. He was great. Very clear, always kind. He's a little slow to get things graded, but it's understandable for a 5-week course. There's only 3 tests and one written assignment. Very easy! Don't buy the book, it all comes from his lectures.
Just show up and pay attention and you'll do great. Very passionate about history. Gives very good study outline. One paper on a random recent-ish event, and 4 multi-modal tests. You'd have to make quite an effort to NOT pass this class. Attendance not mandatory, but if you miss get someone else's notes. Would definitely take again.
Super easy. Don't waste time taking a full 16 week course, his 5-week course was a breeze! Not into history, but he made it fun and gave modern-day examples. Long class times, but he let us out early every time. Three tests and a paper. Everything from his lectures, don't buy the book. Would recommend for anyone trying to get their history credit!
I took his 5 week class and it was a walk in the park. I absolutely recommend his class. It's super easy just show up to every class take notes and you will easily make an A in the class.
He's a goofball, & a really good teacher. He likes to talk loudly. I found his tests to be a bit difficult tho. You definitely need to study-not a slack off class. If you take good notes, you should be fine. Gives 2 tests, a writing assignment, and the final (non-cumulative) The writing assignment is pretty simple. Don't really need the textbook.
I took Professor Walter for History 1 and really learned a lot from this class. He realizes that most of everyone in the class are not history majors so he tries to make lecture interesting and will keep you laughing. Make sure you stay on top of your studying for the tests. I will definitely be taking him again for History 2!
I just finished his 5 week course. It was super easy. Just make sure you go to every single class and take notes. There are 3 tests and one writing assignment. His tests are a mix of MC, Short Answers and sometimes Map questions. GO TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES YOU WILL GET AN A I PROMISE!!!
A GREAT professor! Have fun lectures and make you like history. You have to get 70+ to pass. Not hard to pass but pretty hard to get an A!
Best best BEST teacher. He's funny and makes learning fun. He cares about his students and the subject. He also understands not everyone is in his class by choice. He's one of the best professors I've had at ACC. Hands down.
Took 5-week class. He is a GREAT professor. I have never had any interest in History but really learned more in this class than I have in any other History class. He teaches a lot but is very understanding of your work load and does everything to help with that. His test are based straight off his lecture so do not miss any class!! STUDY STUDY- A+
He's funny, that doesn't make the class easy. Be ready to read a lot, memorize maps and a ton of information. Tests are ridiculous - few multiple choice, sentence long answers, full page essay on every test - too much to memorize and has to be VERBATIM. Repeat: Verbatim. Not flexible, no extra credit, no curve . Unsure of all those good reviews...
Love this guy, he's just a rock solid professor and gets you interested in learning, also he's very funny. His class is really easy to get an A in, IF AND ONLY IF you show up, make it count!
Great professor! 4 Tests/ Non-Comprehensive final/ 1 paper 1500 words.
Excellent professor. Lectures were fun and energetic. He is passionate about History so it tends to rub off .
One of the funniest professors I've had at acc. Makes history extremely interesting and easy to follow. The tests are fairly easy as long as you study the notes you took in class. Attendance isn't mandatory but he tells you what will be on the exam during the lectures.
Veeeery long winded, rambles and rambles forever. Over explains things til you want to bang your head against the desk, but a easy class. 3 tests and a essay
Great professor and very energetic which is great because he keeps you engaged throughout the whole lecture. He's funny and really knows his material, take good notes and you won't even need the book.
Professor Walters is hilarious, engaging, and knows his stuff. Take notes on everything he puts on the blackboard, and then study those notes. That's ALL that will be on the test. He will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know, just study it and you'll have an A.
I took HIST 1302 with him and loved his class so much I took HIST 1301 the following semester. I took the 5 week session for both classes. Def make sure you show up to class everyday if not, be sure to get the notes from a classmate. 95% of the tests are from the lecture. Read your lecture notes, Easy A. Don't get the book, 3 tests & an essay.
I took him for 1301 and he made the class entertaining, his class was very easy. Brian Walter is an awesome professor.
One of the best professors I've ever had. I took his condensed course, with 3 lectures a week. The lectures are long, but he's also funny. He'll give you an objectives sheet that contains all the material that will be tested. Memorize that material and you'll pass.
Awesome teacher! Fairly easy course, light grader. There weren't a whole lot of grades to make up total course grade but if you study its an easy A. Tests are made up of multiple choice, short answer, 1 essay question (not hard though) and sometimes where cities were on a map (like the colonial one) relatively easy overall.
Very good teacher, usually doesn't take up the full class time which is nice. Only 4 grades in the class, so you need to make sure you study for the 3 test and do well on the paper. If you miss class, you miss notes, and everything in the notes is what he tests you on. So i recommend going to class or making a friend to copy notes off of.
Brian Walter was the man! 4 Test, and an easy paper. Didn't use the textbook. Go to class, take good notes, and record his lectures. You'll do just fine!
4 exams (MC, Matching, FB, Essay) Take notes, record lectures! 1 research paper. No extra credit.
Great Class. Motivating and carefully thought out lectures. Won't be disappointed
He has 4 tests that have multiple choice, matching, short answer, write-ins, and an essay. There is also one paper that he gives you a week to do. He teaches on his lectures and you don't even need to buy or read the textbook and explains history very well and goes at the pace of the class. This is a VERY easy class and I highly recommend him.
No extra credit, No partial credit grading style; its exactly as he requests it or its wrong. Doesn't communicate through email or blackboard so if he cancels a class you won't find out until you actually get there. He seems like he does the bare minimum, which makes it hard to stay interested/engaged.
Mr. Walter is a great teacher. He teaches like a story and there are NO surprises on tests. He hands out a unit review so you know everything that you will be questioned on. He only gives 4 tests and 1 essay, no extra credit or other assignments, and beware he doesn't curve grades at all. I highly suggest if history doesn't come easily to you!!
Mr. Walter was one of the best Professor's I had at ACC. He's super considerate when it comes to taking breaks between lecture and always trying his best to keep us entertained with his humorous comments here and there. 3 tests he provides learning objectives for (pretty much study guides) and 1 easy essay. Take his class!!!
Professor Walter makes the lecture fun. He really cares about history. He tries to make the class easy for all of his students. Wish I had taken him for HIST1302.
Professor Walter is a good teacher, I didn't get an amazing grade because I had other issues in the beginning. I do not recommend this class if you are not keen with lectures and or you don't have a recorder, because not everything he writes is what will be on the test. Be prepared to take a lot of notes. Other than that, I thought he was great.
Mr. Walter is a real good teacher sometimes during lecture he can get a little side tracked but its usually a good discussion. The test come straight from the study guide he gives you. We used ztc so our textbook were online but I wish he would have kept up with the book. Overall a good class.
I want to be clear that I took him for an online course. He does not teach at all when teaching online. There are only four grades for the entire semester and they are four essay exams. He gives course objectives, but it says to know everything in the chapters. You are expected to read about a hundred pages a week and remember every word
Some students took his online class and complained that he didn't teach. But it is a distance learning class without a meeting, which typically requires students to study all by themselves. So it's fair for him to do so. I took his online class too, and I think getting A's is fairly achievable if you work hard for it.
I don't understand how he's ranked so well on here. I have a 4.0 and his first test I made a 76. Second test I took 26 pages of notes, TWENTY SIX, and got an 80. There are only 5 grades in this class (4 exams & a paper) so there's no chance to recover from that. He is an extremely hard grader. Prompt on responses.
Prof Walter is great! I took his online Hist 1301 with no meeting times and He's a softy. Super understanding and helpful. You can use hand-written notes on his tests, which aren't bad. Online textbook.
I took professor Walter for an 8 week 1301 online class this fall. 4 tests and 1 research paper. No extra credit but the tests are honestly pretty easy if you take notes. He allows handwritten notes to be used during the test. He is truly easy going and very lenient. No lectures, as it is a Distance learning course but he is easily accessible.
If you don't really care too much about learning about history, this class is for you. 4 exams and 1 paper. The exams were short so you can't really miss many questions before your grade tanks. You do get 2 hours and open notes but unless you hand write the whole book youre going to miss the details. No lectures, just a textbook. Meh.
Super easy course. Really straight forward from the start on the grading protocol and how to get an A.
BEST PROFESSOR!! i wish all my profs were as great as him. You will not regret taking his class. All tests based on lecture and his lectures are great! And the paper was so easy. 4 topics-your choice. Basically a page for each topic. Take his class!
The class was honestly just ok at best. The professor is nice and I felt like while he didn't teach badly, it just wasn't an amazing class. PROS: everything in lecture is on the test, answers emails reasonably quick, communicates concepts clearly, the paper and tests are pretty easy. CONS: extremely vague grading criteria, no feedback on paper.
I really enjoyed my class with Prof. Walter. When taking notes though, do NOT only write what is on the slides. Write things he says during the lecture too. I made that mistake for the first test. The tests are difficult I will say. You definitely need to study. Overall he's very reasonable and will work with you if needed. He's also pretty funny.
Pretty straight forward professor, no tricks, no hints. You have to be on lectures to pass the exam well, since in the textbook there is a lot of everything, but he will ask what he told. So to save time and effort - better to attend or ask your peers for notes. Possible to have make up if you have personal issues.
Class was straight forward, 4 exams and 1 paper. Exams are based on lectures so it's important not to miss. Take detailed notes during lectures, can also record. Follow class objectives for study guide. Textbook was necessary to read certain sections. Paper was pretty vague but not difficult, very informal. I would take a class with him again.
Overall, I had a pretty good time in this class! I took it during the summer, so we only had 3 exams and 1 paper. The lectures were super integral but, he does record them so you can watch them on your own time. I recommend watching on 2x speed! The exams are tough and the paper is vague so definitely study the objectives! Would take him again.
Love Prof. Walter. His lectures are funny & he is super into history and it shows. There are only 4 grades in the class, if you don't come to class you will NOT pass. I recorded all lectures so I could re-listen when studying. Paper guidelines are vague but on purpose, so don't overthink it. I am taking him again for HIST1302. NO READING REQUIRED.
Attendance isn't mandatory but it's highly preferred you show up because the test will be lecture based. Your grade is composed of 3 exams and one written essay which are fairly easy if you show up to class. He's very passionate about History and while I'm not much of a history guy, I genuinely enjoyed showing up to class!!
Great professor, understanding, and cares about students.
I took the asynchronous course this fall. Make sure that you are disciplined and can pace yourself. Grade is based on 5 items; 4 tests and one paper. Tests are a little challenging in my opinion. You really have to understand the material and answer questions that may or may not be straightforwardly answered in the text. Overall challenging.
Walter's tests were based on the lectures given in class and sometimes gave textbooks readings (once or twice). There were only four grades entered in the gradebook, three tests (usually consisted of 20-30 questions, some are true and false, multiple choice, and fill in the blanks) and one essay. Walter takes the stress out of history!
Don't take my rating wrong, Prof Walter is nice, and the workload seems fairly light. However, if you are chronically anxious and have ADHD, sitting through a three-hour history lecture at 6pm is a dealbreaker. It's convenient for students juggling jobs and school, but make sure you can hold still longer than a kindergartener before registering.
My experience in Professor Walter's HIST 1302 was phenomenal. It was a distance learning class, so expect to read/study off the textbook heavily. Professor Walter was clear regarding his expectations (outlined in the syllabus) and there were no issues. There was no extra credit, so be sure to study for your tests as they make up most of the grade.
This class is pretty straightforward — read textbook chapters and do ~30 question exams. Four exams + a final, each worth 20%. No extra credit, redos, curves, or extensions and no feedback on any of the assignments. However, this course is an easy A if you stay on top of things.
Nice Professor but always be prepared in taking your own notes during lecture, he doesn't provide any notes after the lectures. Just pay attention to whatever he says and take good notes.
Great professor for an online course—he responds to questions very quickly. The class consists of four exams and one paper, with no lockdown browser required. While there is a lot of reading, ample time is given to complete it, and students are allowed to use one double-sided note sheet during exams. I would definitely recommend this course.
This class was very easy, just pay attention to his lectures and answer the study guide. He takes 4 grades total (3 tests and 1 essay) and sometimes you have to read the textbook but rarely. This class was really interesting and Professor Walter does a great job explaining the concepts and making sure everyone understands!! Super fun
