His teaching style isn't teaching at all. He reads aloud and babbles incoherently about examples that never meet the subject. Tests and quizzes are easy though. You don't learn much but the class (POL135) is easy.

He was a pretty good teacher. However he talk quietly and doesn't get to excite how his job.
He never gave me legitimate answers of why he deducted points away from me on essays. He was very unclear and had very bad grammar skills

This professor has a PHD but he is absolutely horrible in conveying that information to the students in his class.
Quite possibly the worst class that I have ever experienced. The professor was incapable of answering students questions concisely. The questions he did know were answered very ambigiously. No lecture. Role playing games part of grade. Perfect for the D and D dorks everywhere.
I took this class because I needed it, but this class was taught like a 3rd level class not a 1st level class. Lots of summaries, essays and a debate in class. lots of info to absorb do not take with other hard classes.
not a great teacher but if you take the time to go by his office and ask what you don't understand he will explain everything.tests are mult choice and essay but not too bad if you really study the review.hardest class i've had yet but got an A... i worked for it. do his extra credit, you'll need it. i did learn a lot in the end. role playing is fu
The test were some-what difficult, if you read everything your test grade would reflect that. The essays were thing to take the most time on (which includes preparation and during the test. The notes in class were mainly a waist of time. The only thing fun was at the end of the semester a game we played for the last few days.
Dr. Wright is a great teacher. He knows what he is talking about, but leaves it up to his students to actually work. This class will require extra work, so be prepared. There are two simulation games that are actually a lot of fun if you go to class. Tests are hard, but tolerable. Study the guides.
Horriable teacher, reviews for test are 13 pages long, 25 questions on test plus essay. He hardly reviews anything. Half of material is not even taught by teacher and discussions are so far off topic it is hard to follow.. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM TAKE IT SOME WHERE ELSE!!!!!
Dr. Wright is oblivious as a person, but knows everything about political science. He can be moody, which is scary, but I learned more than I expected from the class.
The only thing that makes this class something that I didn't care for is the debate. The study guide for the test gives you the info you need for the test including the essay questions. I just wish that there was more opportunity for current events, didn't touch on very much.
he has serious communication problems and lacks the maturity to handle frustration- he'll get mad when you don't understand something.
Kept class very intersting with discussions relevant to current political events.
I took his Political science class and it was a breeze. If you do the study guides or atleast the short answer questions you will do great on the tests. He is also an easy grader, if he thinks you care. He does have a hard time communcating but for the most part you watch movies and take notes on the overhead so it doesn't really matter.
Easy thing to say that I like to rate classes by what I leared. I learned nothing in this class and still got an A. The test can be difficult if you don't study and you have to study because going to Dr. Wright's Class is useless. He confuses the topics at hand and lets the class get out of control. I suggest this subject but no this prof.
Nice guy, dosen't hide his liberal view. Knowledgeable, but dosen't convey it well to the students. Has very little control on his class. Soft spoken. Tests are pretty intense, but the class isn't too bad over. Lots of writing.
This professor lacks the communication skills required to help you in a teaching role in this class. If you sign up for his classes be prepared to complete the course on your own with no help from him. Also be prepared for nonsensical games which have no relevance to your class and bring the constant reminder of "Where is my tuition really going?"
I learned a lot in this class. If you dont learn anything from this professor than you either did not pay attention or you're one of those morons that reads or hears something and it makes sense so they think they "already knew it".
Terrible Class, Terrible Teacher least to say, I was very interested in IR as my major , but because of him and his class i dont intend to major in IR no more, he is very hard, and makes you write several papers and has a test every other week, not at all help full, very difficult to understand and has no control over class what so ever
He has a pretty dry sense of humor which I LOVE! most people don't get all his jokes but y'all know how that goes. It's easy if you do what's expected and it's not overkill by any means.
Highly not impartial. Material covered in class is not material present on test. Generally rude to students. Class discussions often lead to nonsense.
Highly not impartial. Material covered in class is not material present on test. Generally rude to students. Class discussions often lead to nonsense
AWESOME!!! Extremely intelligent and passionate. Class was always fun, relaxed, and discussions were encouraged. Barely any homework. Tests were straight from the study guides.
I thought the class discussions were interesting. They had very little to do with the what was on the tests, but they stayed relevant to political science in general though. Tests come almost entirely from the book according to the study guides.
the worest teacher ever! he doesn't use the book at all, he waisted our time with a game called Diplomacy which we had to write two papers about, and his class discussion has no relevance to his multiple choice and few essay questions. he trys to be understanding and funny but as a teacher i don't recommend him at all.
the worest teacher ever!join his class only if youlike to play the game Diplomacy during class time
Dr Wright is a pretty decent teacher, ESPECIALLY if you get on his good side. He has full and very helpful study guides for every test and if you take the time to do them, you'll get A's. If you do Model UN you get 200 extra credit points which is a HUGE bonus. thats two letter grades. Not necessarily easy, but not impossible!
Dr Wright is a great professor if you're truly interested in Political Science. He is entertaining. His tests are straight from the study guide so if you utilize those, you will have little problems. Debate is a bit nerve-racking but survivable. He is passionate about his topic. He does go off on tangents sometimes,an F.Y.I.
decent class
Unorganized and disjointed. May grade assignments by arbitrary metrics. Read the text books that?s what will be on the test because and he may or may not cover pertinent information in class.
He was an alright professor. Be prepared to write 3 papers, 1 research paper, and be in a DEBATE! The test are 25 multiple choice with 4-5 short answer questions. Study the short answer questions on the study guide really well and you'll do great! Also keep up with the reading or go over other study guide questions. They are identical to test!
Really nice guy. Tests are incredibly easy if you answer every question on the study guide, and follow that exactly. There were 2 tests that I only missed one question on. If you miss 3 or less classes, you get 50 points extra credit (out of 1000 total). Papers are somewhat difficult at times, but be thorough, follow the book, and you'll do well.
I loved this class.
Dr. Wright offers a ton of extra credit, take advantage of it. I had to get a 40% on the final to get an A. That was after getting mainly C's and B's on my main tests. He is a great professor that really knows his stuff. He is very Liberal so if you are Conservative you may feel like he's picking on you.
Very kind, very helpful professor and advisor. If you take Model UN, keep in mind that you need to do a lot of work and be on the ball. Dr. Wright is very helpful and pushes the group along like a family though. Definitely would recommend.
Well at first I thought this class was backward because Ive never encountered a teacher that would rather have conversations instead of teach the subject of the day. Now used to his style and really like this class. You can do well by scanning the book and filling your study guide.
DR. Wright is great. He actually teaches and depending on what pols class you have him for the lecture method turns into game theory or debating and sometimes both. He is not trying to trick you on tests he really wants you to understand the material. Model UN is a blast to
Study guide questions are the same as the ones on the test. Easy class to take if you're good at memorizing. Saying that, you participate in one debate in class that is terrifying. Don't take this class if you're terrible at memorizing or public speaking.
Large workload. You will learn a lot. In order to succeed you MUST: Read required readings. Attend every class. COMPLETELY fill out study guides. DO NOT procrastinate. Great instructor. If you are looking for an easy A avoid, if you'd like to learn he will open up your eyes to the world.
READ THE TEXTBOOKS! That is the only way you stand a chance of passing this class. tons of reading and you have debates. he spends a lot of time showing videos, pictures, and open class discussion.
Dr. Wright is honestly so rude. He is someone that wastes your time during class and then makes the test over things that were not covered in class. He is condescending in his responses to students. This was the worst class I have ever taken and I plan on continuing Political Science despite the bad experiences that I had with Dr. Wright.
Very Subjective and abrasive if you share opposing view points. I prefer when teachers do no share their political ideology but he is very open and teaches to his radical liberal ideas. Gets off task very easily and likes to talk about himself and where he has visited. Doesn't assist very often.
I did not enjoy this class. All he did was talk about his trips and random events. He's very unenthusiastic about class...which is tiring. He seems like a nice guy and he knows what he is talking about for sure. However, it's all noted and random games that don't make sense.
He offers lot's of extra credit, but that is only if you do his Model UN team. He is very unclear about what he wants with tests and papers. He lectures on things that aren't even on the test, and then bases the tests over things you never learned about in class.
Terrible. Gets off track easily, so much so that you will never know what's on the tests.
Very knowledgeable and knows the subject.
Dr. Wright is very knowledgeable and helpful. He is willing to help student if you go and visit with him. Study guides are useful.
Teacher knows material and is very helpful to the students. Exceptional class!
One of the best professor's I had at JCCC because he make you think. Test are multi choice and short answer but study guides are very helpful. Debates are fun and there are a few papers.
International Relations is a great class with simulations and discussions. The papers are an analysis of the simulations and discussions are from Global Issues textbook. Tests are multi-choice and short answer and the study guides are very helpful.
Great class.
Dr. Wright's Intro to Political Science is a great class and professor because he takes politics seriously and makes it interesting.
A great prof. if you're truly interested in Political Science. He is entertaining. His exams are straight from the study guide so if you utilize those, you will have little problems. Debate is a bit nerve-racking but survivable. He is passionate about his topic.
A great prof. if you're truly interested in International Relations. He is entertaining. His exams are straight from the study guide so if you utilize those, you will have little problems. Plays simulations games to help you learn the material which are good fun. He is passionate about his topic.
Dr. Wright is a great teacher! Yes, his class makes you think but we are in college so if you can't handle that then, sorry. His tests are from his study guides , but he wants to ensure you learn! Debates with papers throughout the semester over a topic such as culture, economics, environment and confliwhich arent too bad. Just dont procrasinate!
Dr. Wright was a really great professor. He has his PhD in political science so he really knows what he is talking about. He is very organized with his study guides and let's you know all of the reading you have to do. Tests are multiple choice and short answers. You can't fail unless you don't try.
Before coming to my american government class with this teacher, I HATED the subject. He is really laid back, which made the class fun. The tests are easy which was so nice. Overall, I had a really good experience.
Dr. Wright is extremely knowledgeable and gives a few papers and tests are from his good . This is college people you listen to what people with a higher education have to say!!!He knows what hes talking about!
Currently in the class and he helps prepare students for the exams. Also game simulation is interesting and fun.
Presently taking this class and it is interesting. We discuss material Dr. Wright connects material to current issues. I did well on the first exam and the study guides are useful and make it easy to review material.
Dr. Wright is very understanding and helpful to students. He study guides are clear and the lectures are helpful.
Model United Nations is clearly one of the best experiences. I worked hard but was able to travel to New York City and work with students from Xian China. Model United Nations at JCCC is well run and well worth the time and effort.
Dr. Wight works with students so they understand the material. Also has very helpful study guides and engages students during class.
Dr. Wright is an International Relations professor and he is in his element. He keeps it interesting via playing simulation games. His study guides help prepare for exams.
This is an excellent course to learn about Model United Nations. We traveled to St. Louis and New York city plus worked with students from NPU Xian China. Best experiences a must for Political Science, International Business, pre-law.
Dr. Wright's class was my one of my favorite at JCCC. His study guides are very helpful.
Dr. Wright make the class interesting with many discussions
We discussed what was in the book and topics important in politics today.
Dr. Wright is the greatest. I used concepts from his International Relations and Political Science classes as a foundation on which I based most of my essays that I wrote JCCC. He also offers students to join the Model U.N. The MUN has given me a chance to stand out compared to other students. My MUN experience helped me win award and scholarships
Brian is a smart detail oriented man and has a lot to say, but it gets sad seeing him mope around in class and not explain crucial things until after the fact. Hosts games in class, but it takes abstract interpretation to understand why and how it relates to coursework.
Dr. Wright helps you to explain and understand international relations. One of the best experience at JCCC. Truly a gifted professor.
This was class was pretty easy. I ended up with an A, with lots of points to spare. The class breaks down to four tests, discussion points, one paper, and a couple games and class projects. The test are simple because he provides a study guide and is a easy grader. Everything is else is show up and try. You can even miss three classes. SIMPLE!
Excellent class and professor. Uses simulations and games that are helpful for understanding International Relations. Great class.
Dr. Wright's class was a little crazy but he made it fun. The study guides are real helpful and debates were interesting.
This class was one of my favorite and held my interest. There was discussion and presentations and the semester paper we had to attend a local public meeting to see government in action. Great course.
This is a great class where there are game simulations that are fun but also help clarify theoretical materials. Great class.
Pretty good class, although it concerns me that he gives out the study guide for a test the class before you take it. Doesn't give much time to study. The group simulation is fun but you need to pay attention to see how it relates to the class.
Off topic, no material covered in class is on the test, rude, would advise not to take him.
If you can, take someone else for Political Science. His lectures are pointless except for his powerpoint slides. He wastes time in class talking about random things and goes on Facebook to show you his photos. HIs tests are awful if you don't read the textbooks or do the study guide. I definitely won't take him again!!
I took this class to fulfill a requirement and actually enjoyed it. He gives study guides so you'll know exactly what to study and learn. His lectures are pretty entertaining because he relates it to the real world. I would NOT, however, take this class in a 4-wk accelerated course like I did. It was WAY too much to cram into a 15 classes.
Only terrible professor I've had at JCCC. Tangents galore. Expect to spend 10 minutes covering material and 40 minutes talking about literally anything else. Some students intentionally distract him. Just read the book and ignore his lectures. Would not recommend this class to anyone. He is beyond frustrating.
If I could give Brian Wright a negative score I would. He is the worst professor I have ever had. In his international relations class all you do is play a board game he doesn't even lecture but expects you to have a nuanced understanding of all material. He also silences conservative and dissenting ideas and encourages the belittling of students.
I am very impressed with his ability to relate Internationals Relations to current events. He offers educated insight on current events. He is clearly extremely intelligent and offers many opportunities to participate in different events for extra credit. He uses a board game to demonstrate theories presented in class. Engaging and informative!
Dr. Wright is an awesome teacher! All his material is from power points and study guides, but a lot of stuff he adds in class. You HAVE to study! Easy A as long as you STUDY and don't skip class. I could have had an A, got a B+ because I didn't study as hard and missed a lot.
Best teacher I have ever had. Very organized and gives test study guides. If you need American Government pick this teacher!
He is AWESOME!! He makes it so you completely understand and breaks down everything in multiple ways. He uses great props and is very personable. He also makes sure you have all the information needed for the tests. He is by far one of my favorite professors I've ever had!
He is Great!! He makes it so you completely understand and breaks down everything in multiple ways. He has the class participate in simulations and is very personable. He also makes sure you have all the information needed for the tests. He is by far one of my favorite professors I've ever had!
I was skeptical of taking this class, but he made it easy. His study guides are helpful and you know what to expect every week. I would absolutely take his class again.
Dr. Wright is a phenomenal professor. He genuinely cares about your academic performance. His tests aren't hard as long as you read your notes and complete the study guides. He is always accessible outside of class.
Class is mainly discussion based, which is sometimes confusing. I would prefer Dr. Wright teach the class more as a formal lecture, but that's not his teaching style. You Significant participation is mandatory for doing well. Knowledgeable if you need clarification, though, and really nice and willing to help.
Dr. Wright is radically liberal and goes out of his way to harass students who he disagrees with. He's rude and belittling. He's distracted very easily and rarely teaches the material, instead opening Facebook, or talking about food, movies, etc. At best he'll prepare 2 PowerPoint slides. Just do his study guides and you'll be OK.
Dr. Wright is an amazing guy. Complete his study guides and you should be fine for his exams. There are plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Join the Model UN it is a great experience and participation will result in extra credit.
Terrible teacher. Actually how is he a teacher. He doesn't teach, he just talks and asks students questions until he gets the right answer. Wastes so much time off topic. Way too much reading. Way too many papers. Do NOT take his class. Awful teacher.
He is awesome!! I honestly don't see how you can't get at least a B in the class. He does have a style but you get used to it. He basically gives you the answers in your study guide and exams are pretty simple. If you come to class you shouldn't have any problems passing this class. I would recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Wright is an incredible professor. He has about a thousand ways to explain anything until you can understand it. To do well in his class, GO TO CLASS! He has great lectures that are actually helpful and when he says that something will be on the next test, it actually will. Highly recommended!
Absolute disaster of a class. He is easily distracted and will talk to students about food, where he drinks in Lawrence, and open Facebook. Doesn't moderate discussions and allows students to outright yell at one another. Don't expect a lecture or to learn anything in class. Just use the study guides off his blog, it's basically a copy of the tests
I am currently taking Dr. Wright class and he is the sweetest. His lectures are detailed & gives personal examples and gives lots of feedback on assignments. He does offer a few extra credit but his assignments and tests are a breeze.
Dr. Wright was okay, but he was such a tough grader. I got D's and C's on papers that I put a lot of time, effort, and work in to and I believed they were better than a D or C. There are A LOT of papers. Had two 3-4 page papers due a couple days apart. It was a bit much. The study guides were helpful though.
I have never liked a class less! This professor would read straight from slides that had text taken directly from the books. With little previous PolySci knowledge, I was unfamiliar with the topics and verbiage used in class, yet discussion was worth 300 of the 1000 points in the class. If you're a poor test taker, stay away from POLS 192!
FANTASTIC Teacher!! Who better to learn from. He gives great examples of how from Political theory. READ THE BOOK and get involved in discussions and you will have NO ISSUES!!! NO Homework! Tests are easy, but do the reading and you will pass! FANTASTIC TEACHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He used examples to clarify the political ideas. He made the class easier by giving students handouts which answered the questions in the syllabus. In his test are easy if you complete study guides.
Dr. Wright is one of the best professors I've had. You have to be in class in order to do well. His lectures are good he is so into them. The tests and homework are a little much but if you put the work it is worth it. He is so understanding and respectful. He has a big heart as well and wants you to enjoy the class.
Dr. Wright is one of the best teachers I have had in a long time. The course is unique as there is travel and participation at conferences in St. Louis and New York. He understands what it's like to be a college student, so he wants to help you in any way possible. If you like international issues take this course.
LOVED him! Genuinely cares and cares about you passing, clear lectures and easy to follow power points. Ask his for help and he will help you until you understand Highly highly recommend, you will not regret it!!!
Dr. Wright is supportive and encouraging and 100% reasonable. This class did not like to participate and it is impressive with his kindness and level of patience. He is a good instructor and made American government interesting.
He makes it so you completely understand and breaks down everything in multiple ways. He uses examples and is very personable. He also makes sure you have all the information needed for the tests. He is by far one of my favorite professors I've ever had! Worth taking the time to talk with him.
Dropbox assignments help you to completely understand and breaks down everything in multiple ways. The course makes sure you have all the information needed for the tests. Well organized course.
I loved having him! On the fist day of class, he gave out a schedule for the whole semester. It was nice to be able to plan ahead and not be surprised. He was very clear on all the assignments, and also had opportunities to get extra credit. He really wants his students to succeed, even if you're not doing well in the class.
I took two classes with this professor. He's pretty adept and knowledgeable. Most of the course work is reading and answering short answers. Listen to his lectures, as the powerpoints are just visuals and doesn't really help when you're writing long answer questions. He's funny and kindhearted. Knows a lot of his subject.
Dr. Wright is a good teacher. Usually just reads off of a powerpoint that is put online. As long as you focus you should have an easy A. He also gives extra credit for being apart of Model United Nations club.
not cool dude; very boring and doesn't give good feedback
Dr. wright is absolutely amazing! Honestly, if you do the homework for each section and listen to the lecture while taking notes, you will be fine. I also took POLS 124 with him and he does use the same teaching methods. Trust me, pick him!
There is a lot of papers you have to write and if you want a good grade you better love reading because thats the only way you're going to learn about the essay topics. The tests are really hard even if you do the study guide. His lectures are just facebook pictures of his past vacations and he gets off topic really quick.
You spend most of your class talking about nothing remotely relevant to what is actually on the test. He seems to be knowledgeable but is maybe the most boring lecturer I've ever witnessed. He also has no grading rubric and often just gives whatever grade he feels like on test essay questions with no reason.
Dr. Wright is awesome and so sweet! For his Political course, you complete the study guides. There are materials on canvas with some helpful videos. He so willing to help you in class and to do well in whatever career you're pursuing. Studying you can get an A.
I didn't think I'd like it, but I ended up enjoying it quite a lot. The teacher is helpful. We emailed quite a bit about the ideas in the course, and he was helpful. Simulations are fun and learned about IR.
Dr. Wright's class is not hard to pass. But it is not made clear to you until the very end when he explains the grading procedure a little better. He knows what he is talking about though. Attendance is very important for that class. 200 points are based off making it to class. Also, be prepared to learn a lot on your own by reading the textbook.
He has his Doctorate, so he definitely knows a great deal of information regarding International Relations, but that was not shown in the class. At best, during the 75 minutes for class, 20 minutes of it was used for lecture. At the beginning of the semester, he said that we should depend on the book, not him for information that is on the tests.
Dr. Wright is awesome and so sweet! For his International Relations course, you complete the study guides and also play games that are helpful for understanding. There are materials on canvas with some helpful videos. He so willing to help you in class and to do well in whatever career you're pursuing. Studying you can get an A.
Pretty demanding on his papers, considering that all of his teaching material is taken out of quizlet an can't tell the difference between were and where. Will ask you to write your OPINION on something and then give you a bad grade because your point was expressed from your point of view ??? Worst class I've taken in my life.
Professor Wright is a good guy! he is a little tough when it comes to the test. you will need to read and pay attention to everything. you're only allowed 2 absences per semester ( grades on attendance also ) you will receive 50 points extra credit if you miss two or less! he teaches based off stimulations. Test have 5 essay questions you are given
If you don't share the same political beliefs as him, he'll give you an extra hard time. Most of the class is just listening to him ramble on about liberal ideas and his trips around the world. His class is extremely difficult and test heavy. He adds things on the test from his own "Dr. Wright's notes" to make sure you know that hes smarter than u
Awful teacher my god. We spent an entire week looking at his Facebook of places hes been. He says that attendance is very important but yet he missed two whole weeks of class. Jesus dont start me on the final, 75 questions on the final review. Maybe 5 of those questions made it to the final. Be prepared for HIS definition of terms and not the boo
Amazing professor. Captivating and engaging lectures making an otherwise very abstract course interesting and intellectually stimulating. Really cares about his students' progress and easy to approach/talk with.
I was very impressed with Professor Wright as a teacher and a person. Very understanding of others situations. One example is when I misread some information and missed a few assignments, and was allowed to retake them without a penalty. Also, he went out of his way to grade one of my assignments during his free time. Great professor.
While Professor Wright is a great person I'm sure outside of class, He is absolutely an abysmal teacher. We probably had like, 5 meaningful lectures and the rest of the class was just random small talk. Mandatory attendance too so if you're bored good luck passing. Would never take another class from him again. You've been warned.
Dr. Wright's a great teacher. He really cares about his students success, he will help you with whatever you aren't understanding. I really enjoyed his class. Be ready to learn the material isn't easy.
Awesome teacher lots of material to cover. Does give extra credit particularly for participation in ModelUN. Will have papers and written exams over several chapters. He gives you solid study guides.
The online class relies heavily on reading - study guides for his tests can be 15-30 pages. Is a tough grader, especially on essays, and gives very little feedback. Instructions on his papers are very vague both on what he wants for content and what he's grading on in general. Won't answer e-mails a good portion of the time.
Tough course for 100 level. Study guides are insanely long but they do cover a lot of material. If you do them all in one day, it'll take you 7-8 hours. Papers are graded tough and difficult to understand how to connect the articles he has us read in class. Hes helpful and will give feedback on papers before submission. Book isn't easy to find info
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH DR. WRIGHT. For your own sake, don't do it... His study guides are extremely long and sometimes not even helpful on the tests. There are 5 papers throughout the semester which are time consuming and difficult. He is a nice dude outside of class, but a terrible teacher.
There are just 5 study guides, 5 exams, 5 discussion posts and 5 papers. Just a few assignments, so the ones that are assigned will take some time. There are lengthy study guides, but he gives you the page number where to find the answers so that makes it easy. Easy A if you do the work and give some effort.
he does lectures with audience participation, even if you dont know the topic of the conversation. Your grade is based on attendance, tests(with essay questions that, compared to his, are a page long), papers, and discussions. When finishing the lecture he doesnt let you out early, instead you get to look at vacation pictures of trips hes taken.
To start out this professor gives a very confusing and unorganized syllabus. During this professor's lectures, he often gets sidetracked and discusses his vacations with the class. The tests have essay questions that are based on how the professor interprets the question rather than the way the student interprets it. Overall do not take his class.
Lecture heavy w/ forced audience participation if answer is unknown will sit for minutes until someone googles the answer(if possible w/ the unspecific nature of many of his questions)or becomes upset, ends class early. Timed tests w/ little over a minute to answer, unable to go back to previous questions has 5 essay questions worth half the score.
Study-guides, papers, discussions, and tests: Study-guides are repatative 15 page word-searches from the text. Expectations for papers are vague and graded arbitrarily with zero feedback. *warning for online* discussion post requirements essentially create 'meeting times' at 9pm on due date. Short-answers on the test suffer the same as the papers.
Do not take this class with this professor under any circumstance! Class average was a C on *every* assignment. You have to grind for every point possible. Papers were vague. Writing center went over my papers and said they were extremely good... And I got D's. They were baffled! I have gotten an A in every writing class I've ever taken. BEWARE!
Do NOT take this class, especially online. You're better off taking a anything else to get that credit. This class is purely textbook orientated. He assigns tests and THEN assigns a paper literally right after. Study guide page answers aren't even accurate. Then the study guides aren't even helpful on the test. Waste of time and not worth the money
Every unit there is a study guide, essay, discussion, and test. Lots of reading out of the textbook and from multiple articles every unit and the study guides are extremely long. He also doesn't give enough time for tests, but every question on the test can be found in the study guide. Overall, Wright is a fair grader and gives great feedback.
awful
Terrible!!!! Not clear instructions, does not know how to communicate one bit. Discussions are graded extremely hard with the expectation that you "reply to everybody" at least once. Not a clear grading criteria, seems like random numbers just get inputted without feedback.
Textbook is hard to find as an ebook, Study guides are very long, exams force you to answer one question at a time and are timed at 50 minutes (25 multiple choice and 5 short answer), which is not enough time for the scope of the exam. Papers have vague instructions and discussion requirements require you to respond to all other posts.
Spends more time sharing his Facebook photos than doing lectures. Easily goes off-topic for more than half the class. Try to recruit you into other programs for extra credit because students fail otherwise. Has lost his passion and thinks little of his students. Notably bias (pro-left), harasses any other ideas; openly condemns Republicans.
Dr. Wright is a super nice guy and if you asked for leniency, he would give it to you. The discussion assignments are a little difficult because of how he grades them, the requirements are slightly unclear and his study guides/tests are a bit demanding. However, I really liked him. His class is pretty easy to pass as long as you do work.
he does the class in a really backwards way and gets off topic ALOT. not super hard but a bunch of busy work outside of class, we did 5 papers with lectures and 20+ page "study guides" that had to reference several articles and out book. so get ready to read and talk a lot
Took him in-person - he got off topic a lot, and didn't give much feedback regarding our homework and other assignments. Required textbook and participation, but if you do the work you'll be fine. Personally wouldn't take him again just because of his teaching style, but that's just my preference.
I would advise never taking this professor for any course. He counts being late five minutes to class as an absence, and at the end of the semester will give you an "extra credit score" for attendance. He gave me a -100/0 for attendance because I was late to his class a couple times. Dr. Wright is the worst professor I have ever met.
His organization is so bunk. Lots of the time he assigns stuff to be read that will be on the exams but isn't discussed in the syllabus and obviously doesn't have due dates on it. His grading criteria is also inconsistent. I always write a lot for my discussion posts and seem to participate more than my classmates and he takes off way too much.
The worst course I have ever taken. I met all requirements for assignments and gave 0s or low scores even when the papers were looked over by the writing center. I met every requirement at most at 75%. Never take a class with this professor.
Professor has an unfair expectation and criteria for an entry level class with zero pre-req. Received low marks, even a zero, despite meeting and exceeding requirements for online discussion, but was not present in class for one day and received zero credit for hours of work. Do not take with this professor.
This class is more like an online class, doing all the assignments outside of class. Exams have questions that were never in the notes or in the study guide. You'll read a lot and do a lot of homework (study guides and papers). Sometimes his wording doesn't make sense. I was very annoyed at this class, and how boring it was. didn't learn anything.
While he gives a good introduction to this course, the later units start feeling like they are supposed to be the beginning units rather than secondary units. The papers are vague, with no real objective to reach, and the discussions are strange to do. the discussions have a weird grading system. a this point I don't even know what I'm doing now
Expect a lot of reading and lengthy study guides with this professor. The exams can be challenging due to the time constraints, but using resources like unstuckstudy along with the textbook helps. Overall, he's a fair grader if you put in the work.
This class took up so much of my time due to the readings, papers, and discussion boards. Additionally instructions were very vague and grading did not feel consistent. Textbooks for this class are mandatory in order to get work done. The only good thing I can say about this class was that Brian responded to emails quickly.
Instructions to lectures hardly make any sense. Literally all over the place. Due dates and due times are very INCONSISTENT. Literally other professors make learning easy, this professor seems to complicate things so much. The readings are so overwhelming and truly unnecessary to the study material, nothing aligns just very frustrating class.
