Teaches boring criminal law in a humerous manner which made it easier to learn. Lectures are good and the book was a great resource. Try to take advantage of the mock trial, great way to boost marks and have a heck of a time.

He turned what I figured would be a sucky elective into an interesting course.

Brian was born to teach! His mischievous grin and easy manner made going to an 8:30 am class more than bearable. Having been a lawyer for several years before teaching, the man knows his stuff and manages to captivate and engage everyone. I retained more information in his class that most others. Can't wait to take him again in the Fall.

Brian is an amazing teacher, wish I could have had him for more than just two classes crim 154 & 270. He makes learning fun with great anecdotes and humour. Marking is fair but you have to work for it. Tests are great but you really have to read the questions well. The mock trial is a blast, would love to do that again just for kicks.

I you learn better from lectures than a text book then this class is for you. The only down side is he is big n class participation, but I have to say he makes the classroom atmosphere very stress free. He cracks jokes, but at the same time I learn't so much from this class. I highly recommendtaking any class you can with Brian.

great teacher, one of the best at camosun imo

Brian is an energetic prof, to say the very least. The mock trial in Crim 270 is almost worth taking the course. His tests are not easy, mind you. Sometimes its difficult to weed through the "humorous" possible answers on exams, but overall he is a good professor.

Beyond great. Was a lawyer for years and now teaches what he knows. He's totally into the subject and knows it cold. He makes it fun and interesting so you learn a ton. Everyone recommends him. So do I.

Wow. 10 pages of nothing but positive reviews... and only one bad one. Just left a Friday afternoon class and it was packed. For three hours. Best. Teacher. Ever.

His exams are tough. He asks specific questions and you have to know it. He marks the assignments really hard to. I've had him for two classes and they are by far the best classes I've ever taken at Camosun or UVic. He's also really approachable (helpful with law school stuff).

Excellent class. Gives you a real world perspective on criminal law. Not overly theoretical either. Seemed rushed at the end but always answers student questions. Good general intro for anyone.

One of the best profs in the college by far. Extremely funny prof who can mix in humor with course material so you actually remember it. The 3 hour class is long but it flies by very quickly. Focus on reading and understanding the concepts in the casebook & you'll be fine. The other text is not needed. Exams can be tricky though so take your time.

Really fun class. Highly recommend it even if criminal law isn't your thing. Probably the best class I have taken here. Only thing is the questions on the final exam were tricky. But it's worth it.

I'm not sure I get what all the fuss is about. I mean you go to class, get three of hours of outrageous criminal law cases presented in a way that makes you remember them, from a guy who is hilarious and really seems to care that you are getting it. Whoa, what a sec...I get it. I get it.

I love this class. It's what I thought it was supposed to be. Makes my other classes suck. Doesn't use text book though much and talks about things we are still supposed to know.

I entered the Crim program but other than this class i don't know if I like it. This class is the best thing about it. It makes sense and is information is useful and relatable. Plus Brian knows his stuff. It is way better than the new seminars they make us do which completely suck!!

Brian was easily the best teacher I had at Camosun. Funny as hell and his lectures were always interesting. For a Friday late class, he made me want to show up. You weren't afraid to speak up in his class. Would recommend taking his class!

I agree with all this. He's a great prof. Really fun and interesting. His tests are off the chart and can be tricky. Sometimes too tricky. But his style is unforgettable and I guess that makes your remember stuff.

Most helpful instructor there is. I had him last year and just met with him about law school applications. He helped me, wrote a reference letter all that. He's a great teacher, interesting to talk to, and has been really great for helping with other stuff. Highly recommend. Oh, and one bad thing I guess, his tests are nuts.

This is my first class here and it's the best. I'm in the crim program but this class makes it soooo interesting. I wish they were all like this. He's funny and is really nice. The stuff he teaches is interesting and he makes you understand it really well. I am taking another course from him again for sure.

The material can be pretty dry but his enthusiasm is great. It's a three hour class and while it's tough for that long he makes it go quick and makes the cases really interesting. I couldn't imagine this class with anyone else teaching it! Exam questions are tricky. Paper is a group project and pretty easy. Overall highly recommend.

If Brian doesn't make you laugh than nothing will. The guy is awesome. Lecture note taking is easy to follow. I have a 3 hour lecture with him, and if there is a teacher to have a 3 hour class with, it is him. Beware- READ TESTS CAREFULLY. He likes to throw a joke in questions so its often tricky to answer at times.

I wasn't going to do this, but I think he should know how respected he is. It's a three hour class and puts his all into it I think. He explains the cases really well and encourages us to talk and get involved. He does make fun of you if you don't but it's part of the appeal (ha ha). I wish he taught other classes here. If you can take him do it.

Brian's classes are pretty epic. The lectures are long but he makes fun of everything so time just passes quickly. If you have a chance to take his class, do it - you definitely won't regret it! If you take Crim 270, definitely participate in the Mock Trial. It's an experience.

Took this last term. Right from the first class it was a blast. He is a natural teacher. He's as funny as anything and the material is good so he's a perfect combo. My only complaint is doing a group project, but that a side he is the best I've had here at Camosun.

Honestly, Brian was the best teacher I've ever had. He explains things so well, and he's so funny. It's so easy to learn, and the way he describes things makes it so easy to understand as well. Sometimes he makes jokes that are kind of mean, so if you get offended easily, perhaps avoid him. Otherwise, you should definitely take his class if you can

Such a great class and teacher. Right from the start this class was fantastic. It totally exceeded what I expected eventhough I heard about him. My only complaint would be the room and he let some people talk in the back. It drove some of us crazy. But he did get on them at the end of the term. Made my term. I am taking him again in January.

This has been my favourite class in the program. The relaxed atmosphere made for better learning. The content was clear and the real life examples were really helpful. I remember stuff! He is the best teacher there is. I hope other students get a chance to take a class from him.

I have never had a class that I have ever been interested in until this one. His teaching style I felt helped reach students who normally don't listen. He has given me a better outlook on school and I appreciate that.

I haven't been to Camosun or taken a crim class but this is the best. My other teachers don't have the enthusiasm he does. And he is too funny. We spend about half an hour each day talking about recent news and by the end of it you know so much stuff. I never miss a class. Addicted!

A legend. Brian is an excellent teacher. The case battles we did were fun but the mock trial was the best. I'm glad I got a chance to have him for at least one class. The other teachers in Crim are good too, but he really is the best.

Other than the group stuff? A hilarious class. I didn't think I would like this but he made some pretty dry material really interesting. He picks some outrageous cases to help make a point. The case battles were fun other than a group fest, and the mock trial was fantastic. There isn't much homework until an exam and the classes are three hours.

Fantastic instructor --- he knows how to keep the class engaged and the cases he picks are so entertaining that it doesn't feel like you're studying! 25% Midterm; 35% Case Battle; 40% Final. All written work is done in groups. Wouldn't bother with getting the textbook since there was nothing in the exams that weren't covered in the lectures.
