love her, makes things understandable.
A very good teacher; her lectures are clear and go at a good pace, so you are never worried about missing something that she's said

Awesome teacher, she knows her stuff!!!
Keeps me awake in class
She really cares about what she teaches and it shows. I really enjoyed this course and I had not expectex that I would. she made it accessible and interesting.
Interesting class, assignments were all written - by they were quite easily and preferable to multiple choice.
She is middle of the road on helpfulness (not great). She is very articulate and clear. Even though her classes are difficult she does a good job of explaining. Her personality is a little snarly. She is a bit grumpy and gets frustrated if people don't respond to her class questions.
Well organized lectures and she explains the material well. She's very snarly though and not very approachable. God help you if your cell phone goes off in class. Her jokes are really lame but hilarious. Overall good teacher but kinda scary.
She is a great prof. I've had her for 2 different classes. Her tests are challenging, but they are fair. Don't try to cram the night before or you'll be in trouble. I didn't do so hot on the first test, and I went to her for help and she was very good about telling how to improve, and I finished the course with an A-.
Fantastic prof! Her explanations are really clear and she seems to actually care about the well-being of her students. :)
Good teacher, notes well organized and fully online.
Not hot, first of all. Lectures are useless and teach at best 3 concepts from each chapter.
Easy class, wasn't a fan of her lectures though, didn't teach much and just went on tangents. Eventually didn't end up going, she has her podcasts online so you can just watch them.
She is a great prof! She explains the material very well in class, provides good practice material and is useful in clarifying questions. She is also concise in her lectures not adding worthless filler material, which is a bonus.
Hands down, my favourite prof so far. Her explanations are crystal, she's concise and makes great connections to current events. I will advise you to NEVER use your cell phone in class because she'll call you out infront of everyone in MDCL 1305. WAY better than micro (econ 1B03).
The best prof I've had at mac... it was my first experience with econ and she really changed the way I see things.
A great professor, easy to listen to and very clear on explaining concepts learned in class.
She is smart. Enjoys her area of work.
My favourite prof of first year hands down :)
Get her lecture notes and do Aplia. It helps. Pretty fair all around.
Such a great prof!
Speaks very clear and grabs your attention, one of my best profs so far.Aplia and the textbook are very helpful
evil, mean, doesnt even post notes on avenue, tests are hard as hell, hannahs a way better lecturer than her as least she puts up lecture slides on avenue so that we dont have to buy the textbook
She's knows her stuff, and can communicate it to you really well.
She was an excellent prof! She was engaging and taught the material effectively.
I've had her twice and I found her very approachable and clear. One of my favorite profs at Mac!
She is such an awesome lecturer. So many times near the end of the course I didn't understand the textbook and she explains it perfectly in lecture. Her tests aren't easy but if you go to class and do the readings, you'll definitely be fine.
Really great prof! Very fair, offers many resources for you to do well such as easy online homework to keep you in check, answers questions well. Always had organized lectures and slideshows. Do the readings and the homework and you should get a great mark easily.
Great lecturer. Loves to teach.
Mean, terrible teacher, if you have a choice, avoid her.
very helpful and clear when it comes to explaining the conent
tough course but not impossible
Shes a good prof, seems like it all makes sense in lecture. If only she'd make her tests a bit easier, she'd be an outstanding prof.
I found this class even easier than econ 1b03 mainly due to the fact the material made more sense. Pretty easy to get over a 10 if you study.
Professor O'Shaughnessy is an excellent lecturer and makes it worthwhile for students to come to class by explaining the course content in easy to understand ways and sometimes giving away bonus questions. She is also very thorough, understandable, and reasonable. Highly recommend both attending her lectures and reading the course textbook.
Her macroecon class was such a stark contrast compared to micro. She is very clear and makes going to her lectures very worthwhile. If you attend every lecture, there is no way you shouldn't be able to get 10 or more.
Honestly enjoyed her class, the tests were fair and the lectures always had something interesting involved with them.
as a person she's really nice, however her course was difficult because i felt lectures were confusing... she knows her students very well and often spent extra time on topics she knew students typically had difficulty with. enjoyed course content but it was quite difficult. read the textbook!!!
She's a great prof, would definitely take again. If you go to the lectures you'll do well. Her tests aren't particularly easy, but if you do the assigned work you'll do fine. Great lecturer, so don't skip!
Very clear about what she expects from students, and the format of her lectures is really efficient as each lecture consists of only 4-6 slides each. O'Shaughnessy knows what students find hard and spends extra time on the material, she also reviews test questions that people did poorly on. Great prof overall, though slightly scary
Great class. Easy enough to receive a good grade if you put a little bit of time in. I'd suggest doing the optional online homework. Lecture podcasts are very convenient if you happen to miss a lecture (at 8:30, this might happen every once in a while).
Loved the online lectures that she posted before the weekly online quizzes. Was great to be able to pause and rewind while taking notes. She knows her stuff and is thorough in her lecturing.
Lectures are pretty useless, one a week the rest online. Easy 12 if you watch her online videos and do the aplia homework. If you have any basic math skills, the algebra in this course is trivial.
I HATED her flipped classroom situation for macro 1bb3.
She is the worst teacher. One lecture a week and is behind the class. You are a week ahead and most of her lecture is spent answering questions and not covering material. Her online videos are nice, but she you cant get your questions answered usually. Tracks if you watch her videos. If you dont your questions will be met with rude replies.
She can be rude at times in class (i.e. do NOT walk through the front doors in MDCL after lecture begins or she will literally sneer at you). In-class lectures were mainly iclicker questions, very little in terms of new material. Some questions are on midterms so make sure to copy them down. Just make sure to watch the videos and you'll be fine.
I personally found this class easy but I also took Econ in high school (IB). Aplia is basically free marks and is easy if you do the readings. If you do the readings and take your own THOROUGH notes/study your own notes you'll ace this class. Her powerpoints and vids don't have everything, use just those and you'll be fine but not amazing
everything is online, one class a week. tutorial is useful! midterms are hard, exam was easy READ READ READ. watch all her videos
Tests/Exam are weighted heavily. She does a good job preparing students and is aware of the concepts students struggle with.
She didn't talk much during lectures and wanted us to learn from her videos only. Also forced us to buy her useless textbook. I learned next to nothing from her.
her lectures suck and you need to watch the videos and read the book to actually understand whats going on
You really don't need a textbook for econ courses! She was a decent professor but the tests were worded very strangely! The concepts of the course were really easy, but they required a lot of time, which I found were not necessary.
If you enjoy teaching yourself and have previous experience with Economics, you will do well in this course. If not, you may suffer. I recommend reading the textbook and then using her videos for clarification.
Hate this prof so much she doesn't teach at all you literally have to teach everything yourself
Dr. O'Shaughnessy is an alright prof, not too bad but not too good. Most of the information for 1BB3 is in the textbook, which needs to be understood thoroughly, and the in-class information is almost useless.
I thought she was great. Really strong willed and respectable teacher. Not the most accommodating to students with SAS (accessibility services) but very understanding and makes efforts in advance to make the course material accessible to everyone.
hard midterm test :) class average is too low
Great Macroeconomics professor. Lecture's are useful as she goes over important concepts and does practice questions/ However, the class has 1 or 2 chapters to read, with each chapters accompanying quiz every week, plus videos for the week; by no means is it an easy A. If you do the work and go to class you'll get a good grade though!
midterm and exam are hard
Shes the worst professor that I ever have
she's really rude and the worst prof in the school.
She is rude, and she tries to make the course overly difficult. There is a lot of homework because, it is a blended class but its easy. I never went to lectures since they were essentially useless, she spends half of the class talking about nonsense. Econ 1B03 is not an easy A with this prof, so don't take it if you think it'll be a bird course.
Teaching is clear and concise and covers everything you need to know. Solid choice.
I really struggled at times with this course, finding it really frustrating that there seemingly isn't enough practice problems. The homework isn't similar to what is found on evals, and there aren't many practice questions. Lectures are really important and lots of people skip which I would not recommend. Overall, fair but a lot of work.
Textbook Mandatory for homework :) An average professor and chair of undergraduate studies with no people skills. She is rude in general.
This Prof only spits out what she thinks in her mind in a COMPLICATED way WITHOUT caring how a year1 student who knows nothing about macro. can understand. Midterms were so HARD and surprise because it is different than what you normally see. Her questions only confuses you rather than helping you ready and become familiar with the test question.
Terrible prof. She is rude and treats her students like children. The lectures are irrelevant and her videos dont explain anything. Textbook isnt much better, get ready to teach yourself the whole course!
She is the worst prof I have ever met, I hope I will never see her again.
A really rude person that does not really care about her students. Treats us like kids and when you get answers wrong during lectures it's almost like she finds it amusing or funny that you do not understand the concepts that she is bad at teaching. Also do not rely on practice tests and exams, everything is completely different on the real thing.
She is a very strict professor. She expects her students to work hard to get good grades even though Macro is a bird course. Overall, a lot of work but still fair.
Made us buy HER textbook, which was bundled with software that was required for the course because Avenue iSnT gOOd eNoUgH for Miss Bridget. Making hundreds of people buy the book each year isn't very good for the environment hun, but I'm sure its good for your pocket. Can't even resell because you need the software which expires.
Good prof. Quite demanding. Lot of self-guided learning because of the online element but that's to be expected, especially since this is uni now, people. A lot of people in my class disliked her but imo those people tended to be the slackers, so obv they won't like a prof that makes them work. Can't blame her for having no patience for them.
I read some bad reviews on this prof but I honestly thought she was a nice person and a decent teacher. I feel bad that this semesters course was so heavily impacted by covid-19 (our final was cancelled) so I give prompts to her for having to deal with such a change in plans. I wish I could've fully experienced this class. (it is difficult tho!)
I personally did not attend Lectures except for the first one, but she seemed nice and well-organized. The course requires lots of work with difficult midterms. If you put in the required amount of effort you can achieve a good grade but definitely not a bird course
If you want to succeed in econ 1bb3 then 1) watch the videos and take extra care to make a few notes! 2) read the chapter(s) for each week and 3) force yourself to ask questions, as it keeps you thinking about the material you learned. She may not be the most bubbly type of prof, but shes respected and you can tell shes a hard worker and cares!!
A lot of textbook work. Lectures aren't too important as long as you do the weekly readings. Online videos should go into more detail such as microeconomics. Instead the videos are 3-9 minutes long talking about the chapter you just read.
She is a nice person. You have to do the readings as she expects however she has videos on things not in the textbook and will test you on so watch them. You also need to pay attention to the sample questions in class as they are hopefully! Her test are not the easiest but if you put in work you can get an A- I would say A .
Due to COVID-19, all the in-person tests were cancelled. While most professors moved the exam to an online format, she actually cancels the final exam, which is amazing for students who are experiencing high pressure in current situations. In addition, she also offered an optional test for students who want to boost their GPA.
Uncaring , snappish person. Claims to be interested in teaching and learning, and who has done quite some research involving students, yet is quite unapproachable and rigid in her coursework and interactions. Forces you to pay $100+, otherwise you lose marks (probably for her personal gain).
Great professor, expected you to do the reading but tried to ensure everybody knew what they were doing.
Hardest marking prof and worst prof ive ever had.
She does not even care about her class. The time limit on quizzes are so low. It wants you to complete 20 questions some of which are calculation questions in 30 minutes. The averages for first two quizzes were 60 and 50. But even after mentioning the problem, she does not care. The last course that I would want to get in my uni life.
Terrible, worst professor i have. Quizzes are extremely difficult with little time. Live by the textbook!
took her econ 1bb3 in fall 2019, lecture are basically question explaining, test are ok, exam are fine, 70 questions (mc), spend some time on it and you can easily get an a on it
She is not understanding at all!
She was absolutely horrible and evidently did not care one bit about her students. Was not understanding at all in a time like the pandemic and every time she was reached out to for help, she made the students feel stupid. The quizzes were hard and long with not enough time and her response was "many people did well". The average was 60% -_-
Puts zero effort into teaching. The videos are all from 2017 and there are usually 10-15 minutes of lecture a week. Most of the time she doesn't even lecture and just does interviews with other econ profs. Gives almost no time on quizzes. Ironic that the course is called 'Economics of Bad Behaviour' when her behaviour as a teacher is shameful.
She won't hear your reasoning to anything. Basically, if you have a complaint, missed an assignment, or anything, she'll just tell you "i hAvE pOsTeD iT aLl oN tHe SyLlAbUs". Around 3 assignments a week, even though they're pretty easy, but her lectures aren't informative and you basically have to rely on the textbook if you want to pass.
She gives bad marks for literally everything. I got 6/10 even from a reflection in which the students comments. Probably she did not like my comments and give a low mark. The quizzes are so tough. You have to complete 20 questions in 30 mins. Our quiz averages are around 55 percent. The only change she does is the change in weigh of quizzes.
Every single thing in this course is a tedious waste of time. The tests are horribly difficult because of which the class average is super low, and it's impossible to contact her.
Professor does not teach the class well, communications outside of class are not helpful, and no mercy is shown. Most of the grade was based on only a few quizzes with inconsistent due dates. Quizzes were also poorly organized as moving between questions was not allowed. One of the worst professors I've taken.
First, her quizzes are unreasonably hard but she blames the bad marks on people not watching her videos, which are 5-minute screen recordings of her drawing graphs. Second, she is very aggressive when replying to emails. Be ready for her to just tell you to check her announcements then make a passive-aggressive remark, but that's IF she replies.
Didn't do as well in this class as I could've and here's my advice: #1 - Skim over the textbook, 3-5mins/section, no more. #2 - Work on something else, or look at the homework on Pearson. #3 - Go back to the textbook reading and take notes this time, you'll have a better idea of what's challenging and needs to be recorded. #4 - Pray. Good luck!
From the beginning of the course she was already terrible. One of the last to update the course webpage yet one of the first to assign major homework. The course was graded very heavily on short quizzes. Marks on critical reflection were arbitrary. Communication with her is not helpful at all, avoid this prof
Don't take her class if you're not good at self studying. Worst Professor Ever
Took prof. O'Shaughnessy's first year macro Econ class in my 3rd year(fall 2020) She is EXTREMELY RUDE, her posts on avenue are very defensive and condescending!!! She continuously posted the weekly content late, made so many little assignments due every week that it was inevitable that you would miss a few. Ruthless grading. Overall, horrible prof
Quizzes are nothing like the homework, you only get 30 minutes to do 20 questions and there are calculations.
Asynchronous course. Need to read the textbook and watch her videos. Quizzes are time-limited and not easy.
My advice to you is to stay away from this prof, she is really rude and not a good teacher if you are going into first year you will have a bad first experience with her as your teacher, do your self a favour and take any one else and you be fine.
I do not know how can she be a prof. For the group discussion, she focus 80% on the name of the discussion you post and ignore the content you write. If you use wrong name, you get zero, no matter how fantastic you wrote in the content. She does NOT teach all the knowledges you are required in the quiz and the quiz take 78% grades. DO NOT TAKE IT!
Worst, worst Prof ever meet, have no idea why she can be a professor. When you try to ask her questions, she never gives you the feedback, it seems like an automatic response.
Okay, honestly how is this person even a professor. I mean she is extremely rude and unprofessional, her "teaching" is terrible she has no passion for the subject and her overall attitude is just terrible. She does not care about her students one bit, if you try talking to her she will just be rude to you, she is the worst professor in the school.
VERY RUDE AND NOT UNDERSTANDING.
The rudest prof I'd ever seen.
How can she be a prof? Shame for her
This rating goes along with the entire economics department at McMaster. Overall, makes the quizzes extremely difficult. I complete all homework, lecture videos, and extra work and completing the quizzes on time *with confidence* is still not manageable.
Honestly the worst prof at McMaster I've had so far! Literally never responds to emails, says she cares about students but actually doesn't, and worst of all, she can't teach a lecture to save her life. Not possible to avoid her since she teaches all first years, but prep yourself for one of the most arrogant and worst profs ever.
The weekly quizzes for econ1bb3 don't make any sense. I did all my homework, watched all the videos, made notes, finished all the suggested questions, still could only get around 75% on the quizzes(which is already higher than most of the averages). And she doesn't even reveal the correct answers to quiz questions...
tests are quite difficult, lectures are useless, definitely need to read lots! Very tough marker
If I could give this prof a -5 rating I would. Worst prof at mac. She has 0 empathy for her students especially during a time where students are going through a lot due to the pandemic. She focuses mainly on the title of the group discussions rather than the actual content and quality of the post. How did she even become a prof is my question
Worst course Ive taken at McMaster . The economics department overall has been horrible but this prof really made sure youd leave the course wanting nothing to do with economics again. Very inconsiderate to international students with her assignment/ quizzes timings, stubborn, and unfair with her quizzes. Dont bother studying, it wont matter.
She isn't really nice and she doesn't care about her students. The professor doesn't even let us see what we got wrong on quizzes so we can't learn properly. Her excuse is that there isn't an exam, but micro-econ didn't have an exam and we still saw what we got wrong. Horrible prof that grades opinions when they shouldn't even be graded. She sucks.
The quizzes has nothing to do with the lectures or the readings. I would study 4 days before each quiz to prepare and I'd still end up with 70s. There's honestly no point in studying, as the quizzes are only 30 minutes, with 20 questions and many calculations.
The prof is complete garbage. Didn't care her students. Failed many assignments for petty marks such as not using the proper naming convention or spelling my full name instead of my shortened name that appears on avenue. Wouldn't recommend taking unless you absolutely need to.
The content she teaches aka the textbook required for the course does not contain 50% of the information used on the quizzes. When confronted about the issues in the course she blames the students. Does not take any responsibility for the poor quality of her course. Worst prof I had at Mac easily
Did not really teach just made us read the textbook. Posted videos from years ago and called that the content. Marking based on whether or not you used the right naming and if not gave you 0% on the assignment. Take if you are good at learning on your own
I have never seen a prof so SERIOUS about naming conventions rather than THE ACTUAL CONTENT WRITTEN. I pray she gets fired. Worst prof to ever exist
Literally the worst prof I have ever had in my 4 years at McMaster. Took her macroeconomics course during covid as a complementary course. I have never had a prof care more about the naming convention than the actual content. She literally thinks an assignment should get either a 0 or a 100. I have literally never disliked a prof this much.
Makes a big deal out of tedious naming conventions. I am literally less than a percent off of a 11, and I would have got it if I DID NOT GET A ZERO BECAUSE I IMPROPERLY MISNAMED A DISCUSSION POST. No penalty assigned, but instead a fat zero. Stupid mistake, but she has no flexibility whatsoever. No empathy during these times.
Does not care about students. You can write a discussion post with good content, but will receive a horrible grade if the title is not written the way she wants it. The lectures she posts are from years ago and are out of date as most of the content on the quizzes are not covered in the lectures or even the textbook.
I absolutely hate her. Very rude and annoying. Please I beg you do not take this class.
This professor does not budge with her grading whatsoever, and she is too worried about proper naming of titles. For a report worth 8% of the grade, she automatically gave a mark of zero to students who submitted the file in anything other than a word doc, regardless of how well written the report was. She does not give part marks only 0 or 100.
It's clear that Professor O'Shaughnessy severely lacks empathy and sensitivity towards her students, especially during a pandemic. A professor is only affective if they are able to sympathize and understand their students, something that she specifically lacks. This course was extremely disappointing - thanks to prof. O'Shaughnessy.
This teacher makes this class way harder than it needs to be. The tests and the lecture content are never the same and she doesnt even go through all the topics in the lecture videos. Safe the say the econ profs are terrible
Very rude prof who does not respond well to questions. She seems to care more about arguing than helping. Her 'lectures' don't match the quizzes and it's overall just a bad experience. Would never take again. Pretty much paid to experience the most god awful , useless course with a prof that is not capable of being professional (very petty.)
Discussions allowed students to connect what we learned with real world issues, which is helpful. The professor is very respectful, and takes time out of her day to host office hours and extra meetings with students. She does make the quizzes quite difficult. Preparation is very important for students to find success (drawing graphs before quizzes)
Dr. O'Shaughnessy is a fine professor. You have to read the textbook to do decent. The quizzes are tough, but if you read the textbook and watch the videos you'll be fine. She makes an effort with her students by offering office hours after some were struggling.
Easily the worst econ prof I've ever had. I feel bad because she isn't avoidable in the first year and you will end up having her for Macroeconomics. All I can say is be prepared to work hard, participate, and suck it up because she is absolutely HORRIBLE. Doesn't help out, her videos are mediocre at best, and she never answers her email.
She's the worst prof i have seen in my life... I'm currently in her macroecon course and she doesn't give feedback on assignments or tests just a mark... The one bit of feedback i received was this doesn't answer the question. A sizable portion of my class is in the same boat as me and an email just leads to her belittling you
I found that learning the course online to be extremely difficult. The quizzes are hard so my advice would be to study for them in advance (don't procrastinate & study last minute). You also have to do discussion posts and if you don't name it properly she will give you a 0, so be careful. I wish you the best of luck :)
Super lazy. 2 units were not released because she just didnt release them. Grades were super late. No feedback. I did very poor in the class because I had nothing to work with and she grades crazy hard. No textbook was nice but she just gave huge readings through the e reserves. Supposed to be a bird course and almost failed cause of her.
It definitely was not as easy as past students described it as. Personally, I found the MyLab homework to be more useful than the lecture videos. The quizzes were difficult because many of the questions involved calculations and you could not go back to past questions. You need to devote quite some time to do well in this course.
Not a recommend Econ class unless you need to take it.
Bridget is very apathetic. She reuses these very boring lectures that you have to play at 2 times speed to not die of boredom. All my learning was through the textbook I paid $100 for, not the $1000 course. Grading hilarious, laziest scheme on the planet. On projects, you either get 100%, 60%, or 0%. So lazy. 77% of your grade is multiple choice
Don't try and reach out to her, she won't answer. At the end of the semester our grades disappeared from Avenue and the mark showed up on Mosaic during week 2 of 2nd semester. We didn't get a grade for our final and I needed a 55% on the final in order to finish with the mark she gave me on Mosaic. No transparency and terrible communication.
I had her for first year Econ and she was the worst. Looking back as a third year I realized a lot of professors arent like her. She was very rude and did not help our plus she had this rule where if you failed more than 1 test you failed her class which to first year students, this is a horrible thing to do. I recommend you not take her classes
The course material is fine. Most of the mark, 80%, is from quizzes. If you do well on the quizzes and homework, you can get a B without much studying. Though, O'Shaughnessy does have a passive-aggressive tone during office hours and was not helpful.
I'm really disappointed because I was looking forward to this course. I study like 4 days ahead of the quizzes and still get horrible grades, simply because the questions on the quiz and the required readings/lectures are mostly unrelated. Really passive-aggressive in her office hours, don't take this course if you don't need it.
Absolutely the worst course I've taken at Mac. Lecture material is useless and doesn't relate to the quizzes. Would stay away if it's not a required course. DO NOT TAKE IT UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO.
She responds to emails fast, explains well and cares. For one of the toughest business courses, she offers many tips and resources and explains the content well. She explains what to expect on tests and typical performance. Multiple choice on some questions makes econ very challenging even with intensive studying. Definitely a harder course.
The professor was good up until the midterm where she seems to have lost the "drive" to teach. Her exams are tough but fair and studying will do you a good benefit for sure. The textbook readings should not be overlooked in the slightest since she can ask very specific questions during poling or exams. Overall, an alright professor on most days.
Mixed bag. I actually didn't mind O'Shaggy's lectures because they weren't highly scripted but fairly succinct. MyLab homework does a good job walking through maths problems. Worst part of the course was the textbook, and she seemed to agree. The exam questions were pretty complex theory, so you needed to thoroughly understand the concepts.
Pretty decent lectures, but does not give you sufficent resources nor tell you clearly what you should study. The textbook isnt very good for this class so be prepared to constantly be searching for resources to study and still be unsure if its related to the test. Overall I wouldnt take this course unless you had to.
The majority of the class is done through either textbook reading or online videos (which do not teach the content very well). the courses consisted of 3 large tests each very theory heavy, with many of the questions being contradictory from the textbook.
Bridget's lectures aren't really the most helpful, and if you don't read the textbook you're screwed. She hypes up her videos so much but they don't really do much to be honest. If you're good at econ in general you'll be fine. I'd recommend going to class but it's not crucial to success. And she gives no review material so good luck.
no help ever
Not really care about students and teacher.
The professor teaches poorly and you just have to teach yourself about the course. I don't get why I am paying all this money to educate myself. She is very passive-aggressive when asking questions to her and very unhelpful. Very test heavy especially with a 5o% exam and total tests weighting out to 85% of your mark. Overall horrible professor.
If you want a profesor to give you no support and dock you marks for naming your document wrong and giving you zeros for submitting as a pdf take this course. Ridiculous.
she is just the worst prof every please dont ever ever take this course. she is so bad i dont understand why are they letting her teach at the university.
Bridget O'Shaughnessy is one of the worst profs at mac (in my opinion). If you want to do good in this class be ready to read EVERYTHING in the textbook. 95% of the marking scheme is tests, first test is 15, mid term is 30 and final exam is 50. Minimal review questions are also given so have fun.
It has been over 20 days since the completion of the course and the final grade has still not been released. This professor needs to release the grades at a minimum before the start of the next semester. Grades are influential in selecting future courses to take. No reason we should be waiting this long.
She gives out 15-minute videos that cover the basic concepts and expects students to read the entire chapter for the rest of the content. she offers no other resources to cover the content. If you're taking this course as an elective, go for ECON1B03 with Colin Mang; he has about 4 x 20 min videos that cover the textbook sections extremely well.
Just generally a bad Professor!
worst prof ever. I hated her lectures her videos on avenue were bad overall very bad never again
The homework has the number of questions up to 30, and there 12 homeworks, which only takes 5% of the total grade of the course and often use a long time to complete. The participation questions also takes a small percentage in the overall marks.
avoid if possible. youre meant to read a chapter from the textbook every week, BEFORE lecture. gives you almost no resources to succeed besides a few videos a week that usually cover topics outside the textbook. 95% of your grade relies on 3 tests with the final being cumulative 50%.
Bridget doesn't teach! Her content is dulled down from the textbook and her slideshows are super short and incomprehensible. Even keeping up with weekly lectures and homework activities, its very hard to do well on her tests (as seen by test averages). Textbook reading is ok, but YOU should be teaching the course, not a textbook.
She was alright at teaching just her tests made you reconsider your life choices
Provided No Review Material. Online videos are awful, compared to econ 1B03.
Video and lecture content is practically useless so you just have to teach yourself everything through textbook. Just wrote the final and it was ridiculously hard compared to midterms. Was supposed to be half ch. 4-8 and half 9-12, was more like 75% ch. 10.
Level of difficulty for a first year macro course is ridiculous. Midterm and especially final exam questions are way harder than any practice given. Also, she gives really low grades for very small mistakes on the optional work. My friend formatted a discussion post wrong and got a 0.
Don't take this course with her unless you absolutely need to. This woman does not care about students AT ALL and will fail everyone if she could. Get ready to teach yourself everything.
Awful
She is poor at research but perfect at thinking nothing of her students. Exams are designed to be way-off her lectures and the textbooks, her explanations on questions are ambiguous and vague. Definitely avoid her for 1BB, even if she may be the only one teaching 1BB but there should be some other professors teaching this course later on.
Bridget wasn't as terrible as most comments say, you could see that she tried to motivate students to do some actual work and apply critical thinking. However, she did in fact made this course insanely difficult, I had to spend an extra 6-7 hours per week just to read the chapter and watch the videos by myself. Felt a bit scammed.
Nothing great but not terrible either. It's a university. Obviously, you need to read the textbook on your own time. Her midterms and exams force you to apply what you learn... which is a skill you might not learn in high school. In the grand scheme of uni courses, Bridget's actually pretty fair.
She is harsh when it comes to changing the tests a little bit (she wouldn't even raise our marks). Not only that but she expects us to learn the whole entire textbook when it comes to exam seasons, do past exam papers, and review the lessons we learned. She is quite difficult to work with and wouldn't really help you.
Very unorganized professor. Quizzes are okay but the format (where you only answer one question at a time and cannot go back) is very inconsiderate as it doesn't account for students who may need to think for longer than a minute or two about a question. This prof is confused about her own deadlines and needs reminders to fix things all the time.
Professor did not teach nearly well enough for how hard the final exam was, especially considering it was weighted at 50%. I definitely would not recommend this course as an elective. ECON 1B03 with Colin Mang would be a better option for students looking to get a feel for what economics is all about.
If you can avoid taking a course with this professor avoid her at all costs! The worst professor I have had at Mac EVER. She should not be a professor she does not teach anything and does not care at all about students. Even if you have an approved absence through your department she will refuse to except! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
horrible prof dont take this class if u dont have too makes everything so complicated
She is so mean!!!
Took her Macroeconomics class, blended option. The lectures were a little scattered, but overall the material was clear, she was a good professor and the online lecture videos were really great & concise. Expected readings and videos were laid out clearly each week, and although the tests were somewhat challenging it's definitely doable.
terrible teacher too strict
Bridget can be a tough professor, but put in the work and you'll do well. Lectures aren't super helpful, so rely on the textbook and tools like unstuck ai for study prep. It's a challenging course, but manageable if you stay on top of it.
The professor is tough, and her exams are challenging. However, if you stay on top of everything, you can do much better. I recommend attending each of her lectures, as they are very informative. Reading the textbooks and drawing graphs will help you gain a much better grasp of the material.
HORRENDOUS, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Unless you have her for a class you are required to take (even then I'd suggest switching your program) I recommend avoiding her. By far the worst prof of all time ridiculously strict for absolutely no reason has no care for her students and never responds to anything likely because she cannot face her own mistakes.
The exam is challenge
I never wore my seat belt while driving to school because I wanted to die before making it to her class. WORST PROFESSOR EVER
would rather drop out then be in her class again
She was great. Her "rate my prof" rating is unnecessarily low. Every year she works on improving the course for the benefit of the students, which is probably why some of the ratings are low since they're old. I just took the course and there are SO MANY easy marks. Tests were fair and If you watch the videos and take notes you will do great.
She assumes you know the content already and when you ask a question she makes you feel stupid and then proceeds to not answer the question.
Absolutely horrible, never take this course, if it is required, switch your program from Commerce to Eng, commerce is the hardest program in the world. This professor has to the worst human to live. Took my calculator even tho it was legal. I want to die everyday because of her course. GG
Only take this course if you ABSOLUTELY have to for your program. This course is purely self taught by students. O'Shaughnessy does not answer questions, instead she says, "email me" or "read the outline". She fails students on their assignments on not using the proper naming format.
Professor O'Shaughnessy was great! I don't know why her rate my prof is so low. She was great, kind, and taught very well, She provided so many options for extra credit. If you watch the videos she posts and take advantage of the extra credit you'll be great. No specific criticism from me!
Just wrote the exam for 1BB3 and this was likely the worst two hours of my life. Extremely difficult compared to midterms and practice exams, almost like I wasn't even writing for the same course. She gave me a 0% on an assignment without even evaluating what I wrote just because I named it wrong. Absolutely childish.
Prof marks super difficultly and makes tests super hard.
horrible prof avoid class at all costs
Sadly my first introductory class in uni, her pessimistic attitude made this class unbearable and I was quite worried that this would be the next 4 years of my life, fortunately it does not have to be this way, there are several great profs who contribute to an overall enjoyable learning experience, this cannot be said for Bridget O'Shaugnessy.,
I made an account just to write this. STAY AWAY FROM HER! I took colin mangs micro last semes and have her this semes and her homework is awful. The first 3 units of micro and macro are the same and she just complicates things. Incredibly hard marker and is very petty to the point where she has an entire document on how to TITLE a DISCUSSION POST.
I would say Dr. Bridget was OK, the videos were helpful, and willing to answer any concerns. But for real, the tests were definitely harder than microeconomics and some other courses. Homework were heavier. This course is a bit challenging, but if you study hard, good grade won't be a dream.
It is a week and a half into the next semester and I still don't have like 25% of my marks back on Avenue and my grade isn't in Mosaic. Feedback and criteria on rubrics is also terrible, so don't expect to know why you're getting the marks you are unless you go to office hours and ask about each individual thing you got marks off for. Hate her bro
Absolutely terrible prof. We didn't start to receive feedback/grades on assignments until the end of November and I am still missing some of my grades. It is almost the end of January and we still have not received final grades. She is incredibly difficult and picky when it comes to naming documents and discussion posts. AVOID.
awful in every aspect
No proper lecture, but assigns so much reading from random textbooks. The course content feels like an after thought. Picky with file names and formats. Department chair had to email students to apologize for her not releasing our final marks. It's been 45 days since the exam. (Still no marks)
Prof sucks
Very poor professor with very poor communication. Failed to tell us about file types for submission, then wouldn't agree to mark my submission...then finally agreed but penalized me unfairly. Unclear rubrics and no feedback. It's been almost a month into the second semester, and let alone our final marks, we're still getting term work marks.
The course was poorly run, with outdated readings and minimal feedback during the term. Over a month after the final, we still don't have our grades, and marks for mid-term assignments are appearing randomly. While the content was interesting, I wouldn't recommend it due to the professor's lack of effort.
prof is bad
Makes no sense why she is the only prof for macro. Very unstructured lectures and her notes are terrible. Always cancels lectures and if u don't title a discussion exactly how she wants u get a zero. If u are not in commerce do not take this course.
Had 1BB3 last year and liked her, which is what made me take 2Q03. This class changed my opinion on her significantly. It's been 7 weeks since we wrote the exam and she's still marking random assignments. No final grade yet and the Prof has been telling us "by the end of the week" since the break, which obviously isn't true. Very unprofessional.
AVOID HER CLASSES AT ALL COSTS; extremely unfair; I got As in all and failed in this course bring my GPA down. She fails discussion posts for switching the first name and last name place in the naming convention. Idk why she is still teaching; If you HAVE to take this course, do it in the summer with a different prof
Not a big fan of her marking techniques and her lack of care towards students.
Honestly, people are just looking for a scapegoat. There's a lot of content but it's clear and well organized. She does a great job. If you are looking for a bird course with little to no work this is not that. If you're interested in economics don't let the low rating scare you.
Really bad Prof avoid if possible. Tough marker and very specific. Doesn't teach important concepts during lectures and says to watch her awful videos where she lets out disgusting gulps every 3 seconds. Do her extra work provided but make sure you follow every guideline or you will lose 50%.
Let me be clear material isn't hard. Her videos are incomplete, and feel loweffort. You cant rely on them. In Micro, everything was covered in the videos, so maybe I got too used to that. Not to mention she complains in the afternoon lecture about repeating herself from the morning lecture, which just adds to the feeling of low effort. Switch out.
Does not care about students well being/ success in the course. (Lots of students feel this way)
Worthless.
DON'T TAKE THIS COURSE IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO.
Her lecture notes are awful, terrible communication and she simply does not care about the students. Her videos are bad and discussion post guidelines are ridiculous. It's a shame that commerce students are forced to take her macro class as a mandatory credit because it is the worst. IF YOU ARE NOT IN COMMERCE AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
please run away
She couldn't be worse. Impolite, bossy, not teaching well, .... Should be changes with more educated and nicer people.
I don't know why McMaster University let professors like her teach to poor students. She is disrespectful and puts minimum effort into teaching properly. If she has survived so far, it is probably because of Aleksandra's effort, not her.
She is mean. I don't dare to talk to her because she may shout as she did before. I think those rare good reviews are written by her family otherwise no one would be happy with how this person behaves and teaches.
RUN AND DONT LOOK BACK
very unprofessional, dosent teach at all
guys people are not lying when they say she is the spawn of satan. avoid at all costs for the love of god. i would rather dip my eyeballs in bleach and eat them than take her class again respectfully
Got to the point where I made myself ignore she existed.
Literally horrible. Do not take this class willingly. Not only did she cancel lectures every other week, she gave next to zero practice for the midterms which left everyone totally unprepared. The only practice she gave us was 2/3 textbook questions per chapter. The content itself is not hard, it's just her that makes it impossible to learn.
She doesn't even teach I don't understand what she's getting paid for. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
She is awful. She does not care about the students. Take this course in summer to avoid her.
She's genuinely not that bad. Attending the in-person lectures is not necessary but if you want to do well you should put in the work: do practice problems, watch the lecture videos, and read the textbook. The hateful comments are from dumb people who don't know how to study and are looking for someone to blame.
The professor who missed three of his nine classes, I've been in school for years and I've never met a professor this outrageous. She doesn't care what you write on your assignment just that your name is formatted correctly
She is very bad at both teaching and communication. Someone called us dumb for giving bad comments (two comments below). I am wondering if this person is genuine how could know that got A on the course which is not finished yet.
Useless prof, everything in this course is self taught, the only point in going to lectures is for the bonus participation grades. She's missed 3 of 9 lectures, I have genuinely no idea what they're paying her for. Claims to be passionate about blended learning, yet she can't figure out how to hook up a computer to a projector.
Bridget is a terrible professor, take Macro with someone else if you can . SOS
terrible prof
She's boring. Don't even bother attending her lectures. Teach yourself using the textbook and online modules.
the fact that your reading this says enough
Words cannot describe how much I dislike this woman. She's the lazies prof ive had this year, no effort into teach the course, videos are horrible. Just dont take this course unless you have to because these the only option.
Can't teach, Doesn't know how to use technology, Worst prof at Mac
She literally cancels class 10 mins before start time and she's done this multiple times…
Would not even consider miss oshunussy a prof because she was away majority of semester due to breaking limbs, contracting diseases, and going on vacation. When she broke her finger she had some lady write on the board for her and they were not on the same pace. Tests are not generous and very heavy. No formula sheet. I would rather go 2 jail !!
cancelled so many classes, doesn't explain topics in class. Tough grader, terrible videos online, and doesn't even show up to her own exam.
Theres one reason i tagged it inspirational, i was inspired to die. Thats not even over exaggerating, everyday on my commute I hoped the go bus would just set ablaze. I got A+ in all my courses and this course I just took the exam and im expecting a C. I did over 10 practice exams but she changes the wording and makes it confusing so much.
exams nothing like the material provided
If you're commuting and this is your first class, check A2L often for last-minute lecture cancellations! She has cancelled with less than an hour's notice before. Exam questions don't match the video content and are purposely tricky in wording, so be prepared for that."
The final exam and midterms were not as bad as people are making them seem. Several questions picked right out of her study guides. However, she cancelled several lectures on short notice, was rude and annoying, asked us to watch her useless videos and made the course way more difficult than it should have been.
She does not want to be a prof I don't know why she teaches. She is very rude to students, a harsh marker, while there are lectures in person, the content is videos you watch at home and she just reviews the topics. Very lazy, messy course. I would never take a course with her as a prof ever again even if was graduation dependent.
I won the battle of 1BB3, but I have not won the war...(Econ major)
Worst class I've taken. The slides would be blank, and nothing taught in class. to understand the material you'd have to read the textbook, watch her videos and teach yourself. Also cancelled 3 classes (out of 12) and to get the extra marks you'd actually have to go to the useless lectures. Would never take a class w her again - choose a diff prof.
She's a grumpy lady
Honestly this course was so terrible it made me question whether i was qualified in pursuing a future in economics. I missed the second midterm because i had a family death and my final was worth about 75%. The way she worded the final was so odd and tricky for absolutely no reason. At this point i hope i just get a C so i can get into my program.
Took this class as an elective out of personal interest. Ended up being more stressful than my important courses. Stay away.
This is NOT a bird. I repeat this is NOT A BIRD. If you take this class with her, it will only give you unneeded stress. She doesn't teach in lectures and relies on short modules (underexplains) and the textbook (overexplains). The examples given in homework also doesn't help you prepare at all. The exam was also very difficult to understand.
PowerPoints during lectures mostly contains information on textbooks, and sometimes more important information that is not mentioned on textbooks. The textbook reading takes a couple hours to just chew through.
Absolute no humanity.
Professor never responds to your email, doesn't care about her job at all. Do not take her class and waste time on if it's not necessary.
Terrible lady that just wanted to get paid and do not care about her students at all. Decided to go on a trip to some other places and skipped classes. Tests were very difficult and a lot of the contents weren't covered. Do not take her class.
Unclear grading guidelines and rubrics. Does not take questions at all if you try to ask her. Absolutely terrible.
A random lady puts her paycheck first instead of her students.
Awful exam, terrible experience, average was below 60 for both MIDTERMS AND EXAM. DON'T take this class.
Tons of homework, in the first day of class she basically said everyone needs to spend 18-24 hours per week on this course or else is likely to fail.
Never ever replies email after work, very unhelpful and don't take her
Incredibly inflexible and unreasonable.
DON'T TAKE THE COURSE UNLESS YOU WANT A 1.0 GPA
By far the worst prof I've had at McMaster. She was cold, rude, and unprofessional—responded to emails after ages with 1-line replies and spelling mistakes. Zero empathy, harsh marking on petty details, and useless feedback. Caused constant stress with her attitude. Harsh grading and zero support. Avoid at all costs.
Forces you to pay over $100 to access the MANDATORY homework. Automatically enrolled in a textbook nobody wanted. At least I get email replies, even though they're extremely rude. Why teach if you hate your job and everyone around you?
She never makes it specific which material is and isn't on midterms, just throws a bunch of slides and textbooks at you and tells you you need to learn material on your own, she doesn't cover any material in class.
Had her only for around a week and a bit and you can just tell she does not care about her students, she hates reading emails and discourages us from them, and proudly stated her grade average on tests is in the 60s
Good afternoon all, Frankly, I am horrified by your defamatory remarks - the formatting couldn't be more wrong! The fact that so many of you are perceiving the "mandatory textbook cost" as anything other than a masterclass in economics teaching explains why you all failed this course. Much love,
had to come back and give her a one
assigns so much work and tests, very inaccessible, and cancels all her lectures so you have to teach yourself
It would be nice to have lectures. We have had 2. We are in week 6. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Makes things due at 11 pm for some reason, reads off slides for lectures, cancels lectures for fun, and is just an atrocious prof in general
Professors tests are difficult but straightforward, the weekly videos are not bad but that is pretty much it for the good. All her mid terms are at 9 am the day after major school events, she focuses more on the naming of your assignments rather than the content for grading and has lots of textbook reading questions, why did i even watch her vids
Her lecture slides were just really uninformative, they were vague, lacked detail, and if you're going in studying the slides, she will have her ways to test you on things that weren't even on them, so good luck taking her class.
She is not very professional and does not care about the students. She also cancelled class and wouldn't curve the midterm even though everyone failed.
Take 1BB3 in the summer u dont want this prof. cancels last minute, she canceled 3 times before the midterm. everyone failed and she didnt curve it. DONT TAKE HER IF U WANT A DECENT GRADE
Missed like 4 lectures out of 12 and has been late to ever other one. She clearly doesn't want to seek advice from students who want to help her improve her course or teaching, and doesn't want to learn to use echo360 to give out marks as she gave up on it half way through the semester instead if learning how to use the tech. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!
Too much homework for no reason, useless slides, shows up to class 15 mins late (50 min lectures) and cancels 3 (out of 12) classes last minute when students take the effort to show up to class. Course isn't too bad, but she doesn't care about us learning and puts her paycheck first. Don't take her if you don't like grumpy old ladies. Avoid her!!!
engaging lecturers, makes things due at 11, I got a zero one time because I labelled my assignment with an extra underscore by accident, showed up to 8/12 lectures all year and didn't bother to fix her technology, makes things WAY more complicated than they need to be, didn't curve test when everyone failed because she didn't teach ANYTHING
Hard class
she is stubborn and just avoid her, class isn't hard, she just stuck up.
easy class, annoying prof.
worst prof at mcmaster
I had absolutely no issue at all with her for majority of the term - I attended lectures, re-watched on Echo, did all the practice questions. I got high grades on both midterms. However, while I got 95-100% on the practice exams she gave, the exam was WAY harder than anything we had seen before. I've never failed something, might now.
This is the worst professor I'll ever encounter. She constantly missed class and showed up late, couldn't get any of her technology to work which even led to getting rid of participation marks as a whole. Additionally, her practice material was unlike the final at all. It shows she does not care about her students, and her marks reflect that.
Worst Professor of all time!
The professor isn't great. The whole course is very exam heavy, and she's a really hard grader. If this course isn't mandatory for you, I honestly wouldn't recommend taking it with her.
THE WORST PROF EVER. I cannot express how much I don't like her, she is always grumpy and makes the final nothing like the content. She cancels every lecture a few min before. The average was below a 50 for the test and she still didn't curve it because she said no one shows up to class but SHE DOESNT TEACH. Don't take this class ever.
This class is basically an independent study with a very grumpy supervisor. Lectures are optional (for the prof), teaching is rare, and the exams feel like they were written for a different universe. Asking questions seems to lower the room temperature. Learned a lot about stress, not much about the subject.
If I had a DN I'd write her name down. Istg she's got an issue with everything in life. The only reason I got that grade is cuz I self taught and one of my other friends helped me. She's actually insane and should go to therapy
Definitely the worst prof I've had. If you have the option to avoid her please take it. I'm just lucky I took economics in high school which got me through to the midterm. My A- was achieved in spite of her teaching.
Often late, no study material
