By far the best class I've ever taken and definitely one of the best professors I've ever had. The lectures were so inspiring and interesting in so many ways and made me really excited to study for the class which is something I've never felt before. I could tell she really cared about the students and what they learned during class.
The best professor I have ever had... she cares so much about her students and genuinely wants students to do well. Lectures are so interesting and the class is structured in a very fair, organized way.
Hard is a phenomenal lecturer. She's extremely well prepared and I feel like I'm in a Ted talk every class. The tests are heavily based on what's said in lecture, so pay attention, but there are several questions every test based on the readings. The writing project is quite manageable as you work on it slowly over the whole semester.
Dr. Hard really does a great job with the lectures. Always engaging and interesting. This class is not a walk in the park, but if you put in some effort you will be fine. In addition, it is really interesting.
Dr. Hard is one of the best professors I have had at Duke. Her engaging lectures and caring attitude are nearly unparalleled. I could not recommend taking a class with her more. The class itself is not incredibly difficult, and you will be fine if you read the textbook and pay attention to the lectures.
Doctor Hard is definitely one of the best professors I have had at Duke. She has her own unique way of delivering the content during lectures, all in a very interesting and engaging way. I wish I could take more classes with her! 100% recommendation for anyone thinking about taking her class.
Psy101 is one of the best classes to take at Duke. Professor Hard is a phenomenal lecturer and makes each class feel like a TED Talk. The material is extremely interesting, and if you stay on top of readings and review your notes for the weekly take home quizzes you won't have to cram for the tests. I would 100% recommend this class .
Absolutely amazing professor. Every lecture is like a Ted Talk. Great class for everyone, not only psychology majors
Dr. Hard is a phenomenal teacher, researcher and advisor on so many levels. She confirmed my love for psychology, knows how to teach, and is incredibly knowledgeable. Although her class involved a lot of reading and memorization, I learned an invaluable amount across such a wide range of topics. She's a natural teacher and a fantastic human being.
Professor Hard couldn't have been nicer or more caring. She genuinely cares about teaching students and is always available after class for questions or concerns. The class is very general and requires a lot of memorization but there are enough assessments to boost your grade if needed.
her lectures are freakin amazing. she's hilarious but also actually teaches in a way that gets you to remember everything. midterms are easy, just read the textbook bc sometimes there are specific details from the text. final is so easy bc she tells u exactly how to study. for the R&W, just make sure u revise it a lot so ur TF knows u tried.
Cannot recommend Dr. Hard enough. She is unbelievable: every lecture is like watching a TED Talk. She made me want to major in Psych. Midterms require a lot of memorization, but once you study enough the exams themselves are not too difficult.
This class helped me to really invest time into lectures. She made the class interesting. The tests were not terrible although they do require a substantial amount of studying. You will learn a lot in this class.
Bridgette is one of the best lecturers at Duke. It feels like you're attending a Ted Talk and she mixes things up with videos and studies so you don't feel like she's reciting material. Additionally, all of the logistics of the class are incredibly clear and fair and there's a lot of buffers to your grade so it's easy to do well.
Hard is the best lecturer I've ever had. Discussions are interesting, engaging, and funny. The class was a lot of memorization, but the content itself isn't too hard. Lowest 2 quiz grades were dropped, and you can replace your lowest midterm grade with the optional final MC grade.
Dr. Hard's lectures are easily the best I've had at Duke. They are extremely engaging and informative. She makes the expectations for the class (psych 101) very clear and grading is fair. Textbook readings are sometimes annoying to keep up with, but generally interesting.
Dr. Hard made this class interesting, as she is a great lecturer. However, she made the class mostly based on the textbook. Tests we heavily based on the readings and barely any about the lectures. The grading is also very harsh as many of her writing prompts are unclear. Not a good class
I was excited everyday to go to Dr. Hard's lectures. They were extremely engaging and applicable, even though I am not a psych major. Tests are easy if you go to lecture, study, and learn the studies. Very thorough course (and you get an NS) and a good break from hard classes, but you learn a ton of useful information. Definitely recommend
Dr. Hard's class was by far the most logistically sound, efficient class I have ever taken. Lectures were amazing with several cool guest speakers, grading was broken down line by line, and covered great concepts. Amazing professor, amazing class!
I'm not a psych major and just took this class as a pre-med requirement but Psych 101 became one of my favorite classes I have ever taken. If you put in the effort, an A is almost guaranteed. Dr. Hard is the best lecturer I have ever had and I actually looked forward to the days I got to hear her teach! She is an all-around amazing professor.
Dr. Hard is amazing! She is one of my favorite professors that I've ever had. I took her class my first semester at Duke and could not have asked for a better experience. She is engaging, funny, and makes the material interesting. Tests will require you to study but are definitely not overly difficult, you WILL do well if you work hard.
Dr. Hard is the best professor I have ever had. Her lectures are engaging and interesting, and she motivated me to want to learn and ask questions. I would highly recommend this class and any other opportunity to work with her.
Dr. Hard is the best professor I've had at Duke so far. Every lecture is literally a TED talk and she makes even the harder topics super easy to understand. Her research also involves students and learning so she sometimes even collects data from us in class to help us learn later on. The tests weren't hard but definitely read the textbook:)
Lets just say that Dr. Hard is not only one of the best professors Ive ever seen, she is also one of the most perfect human I know. When people say every one of her lecture is like a TED Talk, they are not joking. So many people were converted to psych majors after her 101
SHES A BEAST! best prof at duke and shes hot too
Dr. Hard is the best lecturer I've ever had and even though it's only my first semester at Duke, I'm certain she'll remain at the top for the next 4 years. Another commenter said her lectures feel like TED Talks and I couldn't agree more. Every lecture leaves you blown away and I was genuinely excited for class every day. 10/10 would take again.
This class is a must, even if you are not a psych major. It is a great NS (if that is what you are looking for) but overall so interesting and engaging! She makes the environment of a 200+ person class feel engaging and intimate.
Dr. Hard is an okay professor, but the curriculum design bothers me. The exams are not tricky, but they require a LOT of memorizations. Basically you have to self-study and memorize the entire textbook, since the exams cover both intersecting (40%) and non-intersecting (60%) contents on the textbook with the lecture.
Dr. Hard is seriously such an amazing lecturer and she made Psych 101 so so interesting. Even if Psych isn't your major take this class, you will really enjoy it! It's not super difficult as long as you keep up with the readings (which there is a lot of) and go to lectures because you won't understand her slides otherwise.
Every one of Dr. Hard's lectures is a TedTalk. Class was fairly simple and plenty of resources to help get the grade you want. She does her best to give everyone a fair chance to succeed and seems to value genuine student interest in the topic. TF's were the only problem but Dr. Hard is available to mediate. Several bonus point opportunities.
Dr. Hard is awesome! Her lectures are so interesting, but the course is definitely a good amount of work/reading/studying.
Dr. Hard is GOAT. Everyone should take her Psych 101 class.
Professor Hard is an incredible lecturer at Duke, who made my start in Psychology cause me to change my major to pursue it! She is interesting and engaging, and the lectures are very well structured. Exams don't generally contain difficult content, but you need to memorize a lot. Read the textbook, do the Inquisitives and go to lecture to get an A!
Professor Hard is the best lecturer I have ever had. She is extremely engaging, makes the material super accessible and interesting, and is also quite funny and personable. This class does require a lot of work though, like textbook readings, studying, and a writing project.
PSY101 is a class that caters to all levels of interest in Psychology and offers real-life experience by making you design your own Psychology study and participating in Psychology studies. Lectures are engaging, very interesting, and extremely well-delivered. Discussion sections could be improved.
Professor Hard is a brilliant lecturer! I took AP Psych in high school but had to take this course for a minor and still found it engaging. I liked the semester long project that had you design your own experiment too.
Amazing lecturer - engaging and material is interesting. The material itself isn't super difficult but in order to get an A, you need to take notes during lecture, read the online textbook, and study. Exams make up 60% of the class grade so it helps if you're a decent test taker. Papers aren't so bad but my teaching fellow was a really hard grader.
Sent an extremely rude response to an email requesting a regrade (I ended up being right and got points back). She so desperately wants this class to not be something that people just take for an easy A by adding tedious and unnecessary discussion sections and busywork, but the class is still easy
this class is entirely taught by TAs who know nothing about the subject matter. barely saw the professor once.
Despite being asynchronous, every one of Dr Hard's lectures was incredibly engaging and well made. She is clearly very passionate about the material and about the experience of her students. She is an incredible speaker and provides interesting examples and engaging activities and videos to complement what she is saying. Would recommend to anyone!
I took this class fully asynchronous and attended weekly TA discussion sessions. I can def feel the prof's enthusiasm towards teaching and psychology. This class being online definitely lowers its difficulty since all tests are open-book so take it while u can. Most of the material is busy-work but intuitive & pretty clear. If u study u'll get an A
Dr. Hard clearly cares about her students. Her lecture videos have insane production quality and she gives so many resources to make sure we succeed. If you do the readings, watch the lectures, and study the practice problems, you will get an A. The tests being open note make it super easy so take this online while you can. Quality professor.
Did not enjoy this class. Most of the work felt like busy work. Tests were unnecessarily difficult and TAs were very harsh graders. Everyone said this was an easy NS and other reviews were good, so I wanted to take this class but it was my biggest regret of the semester. Don't be fooled by other ratings.
She's a pretty good lecturer, and the material isn't too difficult. There is some unnecessary ideological slant to the class, however. There's also a good bit of work (weekly quizzes and reading, research, etc.).
Best teacher I've had at Duke, if not ever. The lectures are amazing and her passion for the content is infectious. Class is super well organized. You def have to do the readings and watch the lectures closely, but as long as you do the work you'll get an A. Attend office hours! Not only an amazing prof, but also such a kind and caring human being
Dr. Hard is amazing in every way. She keeps class FUN and entertaining and knows her stuff inside out. Absolutely fantastic and every student should take Psych 101 with her regardless of major.
Dr. Hard is one of my favorite professors at Duke. She clearly cares about her students and their learning. She's very accessible outside of class and office hours. Lectures are like TED talks -- I looked forward to them so much. TAKE THIS CLASS! It's definitely a lot of textbook reading but if you put the work in it's an easy A.
There are a lot of readings/ quizzes, and you can't get an A on tests without studying. Don't fall behind! However, Prof Hard is awesome. Psy 101 was online only w her but I still looked forward to pre-recorded lecture because they felt more like TED talks than lectures. SUPER digestible and interesting content! I would def recommend 101 w Hard.
Dr. Hard is one of the must-take professors. She knows the material from inside out. The class is a lot of work - weekly chapter readings and quizzes and lots of deadlines for the final project, but I liked that she broke it down so that we didn't end up cramming in the end. Most of class time is spent with TA but you'll learn a lot from lecture.
Psych 101 is probably the best class at Duke. Professor Hards lectures are truly amazing. There is a decent amount of work but it is very manageable to do and get an A.
This was by far the hardest class of the semester. If you are hard-working, getting an A is easy. If not, RIP. The lectures themselves are amazing though, every single lecture is like a Tedtalk, and Professor Hard is perfect as a Psych 101 instructor.
Dr Hard is great! The class is amazing as well. However, it is A TON of work. I repeat A TON. If psych does not interest you or you are looking for an easy elective, I would NOT recommend this class. Great professor, interesting class, lots of readings, and a ton of assignments.
Cannot say enough good things about this class and Dr. Hard. Every aspect of her class was designed to make learning welcoming and easy for students. Lectures are required but most people don't even mind because she is such an amazing lecturer. It is a reading heavy class though and you need to study for tests to get an A.
Loved PSY101 and cannot recommend it enough! Lectures are incredible (they're essentially TED Talks) and make you not care about the mandatory attendance requirement. This class is not hard at all - workload is one textbook chapter per week (takes an hr or so to read) + one 6 pg paper you work on over the entire semester. 10/10, would take again.
I was interested in psych before taking 101 with Dr. Hard, but her class convinced me to major in it. Shes an incredibly gifted lecturer and gives opportunities for extra credit. If you have the chance to FLUNCH her, do it!! You can tell she genuinely is passionate about what she does and wants you to succeed. Id recommend this class to anyone.
This is the best class at Duke and everyone - regardless of major - should take it. Lectures are super engaging (and if you go to them, the final is optional), the class is super well-organized, and the workload is relatively light. Seriously, take this class if you have the chance!
Dr. Hard's passion for Psych 101 was obvious, and her lectures were engaging. Never too boring! A few of the assignments were annoying and graded a bit strictly, but if you put some time into them you'll do well in the class. You do need to read the assigned textbook readings to do well on tests.
Dr. Hard is an amazing professor with very inspiring and interesting lectures. The content of Psych 101 is absolutely fascinating. Everyone needs to take Psych 101 with Dr. Hard!!
I absolutely loved Dr. Hard. She is the best professor I've had so far at Duke. Her lectures are amazing and extremely interesting. I highly recommend Psych 101 with Dr. Hard.
This class was truly amazing. I was in awe of Professor Hard's ability to completely captivate a room of 300 people. Never have I had the privilege of experiencing such engaging lectures. The content is remarkably relatable and important. This is the type of class that should be mandatory for all students at Duke.
Loved Dr. Hard. Truly one of the best professors at the university.
Likely the best lecturer I'll ever listen to in my lifetime. Extremely organized and clear class. As long as you do the (unfortunately/unnecessarily lengthy) readings and take good notes, you'll do well on exams. There's definitely busy work, but a lot of the material is interesting and applicable - more than worth it. Lotta AP overlap.
Not an easy class or that enjoyable. Test questions are not hard but there is A LOT of material on each exam which can easily be overwhelming. Must keep up with textbook readings cause there is material in it that appears on exams that aren't covered in class which is just wack. Finally, there is 2 essays and weekly quizzes.
Dr. Hard is probably the best lecturer at Duke. Every single lecture is so engaging and the 75 minute class period doesn't feel long at all because of how good she is at lecturing. Dr. Hard has clear grading criteria and the TAs are very accessible. Every student at Duke should have the opportunity take this class! Take it when you get the chance!
I took this class because everyone said it would be easy A. It was not true, I had to spend more time on my psychology exams than on chemistry or Chinese, and I got a C from the first test anyway. Still, I think it was worth the trouble and the professor is great. She gives lectures like a Ted Talk. She is also super helpful and inspiring.
I don't get the hype surrounding this class ... It's straight up tedious busywork. Unless you're a PSYCH major and have to take it, there are much better alternatives. Be warned.
Professor Hard is the best lecturer I've had. Her lectures are very engaging and she is extremely well prepared. The class as a whole was very interesting, and I would recommend it even if you're not majoring in Psych. There is a lot of work, but it isn't too difficult or overwhelming. Be prepared to memorize a lot of terms for the exams.
Dr. Hard puts an incredible amount of work into making this class a great experience. Lots of textbook reading and studying for midterms requires tons of memorization. Discussions were not the best experience, but the lectures are what made this class great.
Prof. Hard is a really enthusiastic teacher but the psych content is quite tough. There are lectures, weekly quizzes (you can take multiple times until you get 100%) and a reading & writing essay on a study you would like to conduct. I would highly recommend this class if you like psychology, if not don't take it.
This woman is awesome. Every class is like a TED talk and genuinely so engaging -- she gets the whole class laughing and entertained on the daily. Her class is very organized and clearly lays out the expectations and grading policies. Really great overview of all Psych topics. Beware, it is a lot of work + required attendance + tech free lecture.
The most interesting and engaging lecturer at Duke. She has a no technology in class rule but it makes sense. Both compassionate and fair. Absolutely love her!
Prof. Hard is a good lecturer but if you like lectures to be concise you won't enjoy the class. Textbook readings are tedious. Would say to only take this class if you are a Psych major. Tests are heavy on multiple choice so if you don't like it would avoid the class. It's not an easy A as you hear everyone say.
Dr. Hard is one of the most amazing professors that I've had at Duke. She is kind and truly cares about the well-being of her students. Before taking her class, I read that her lectures were like TedTalks, and that was so true. She made the content engaging regardless of the topic. Her tests were very straight forward and easy to study for.
Hard deserves the hype for being a cool lecturer, but there is an absurd amount of homework and busy work for no reason. I spent more time on this class than I should've and there is some weird rule against not giving students a 100. The material is nice but purely because of the sheer amount of work, would not recommend.
It is a lot of work for an introductory psychology class, but the tests are pretty straightforward as long as you review the textbook readings (which are long) and the lecture slides. Like others have said, there is a rule against giving out 100% for certain assignments, but that should not prevent you from getting an A in the class.
take notes in lecture and read the textbook!!! doing these things and using ur TA will help you get an amazing grade and learn a lot
Professor Hard is a great lecturer and ensures that the course is as organized as possible considering it tends to have around 300+ students. The TAs are excellent and section is also structured very well in addition to being a good resource to get questions answered. There is a decent workload but after the 1st exam it lightens if you can optimize
Prof. Hard is the best lecturer I've had in my life. She makes the entire content engaging, fun, and easy to understand. However, this class is A LOT OF WORK. It's not hard, but a big part of the tests is only covered in the textbook so you have to read it all. Grading criteria and course structure are clear from the beginning.
Great lectures. As someone who'd never taken a psych class before, I took a ton of notes so there was a fair share of work. Your grade is cushioned by attendance and discussion. Attendance was a pain in the ass though bc they actually track it. She's fun and makes the content engaging.
Professor Hard is an amazing lecturer! You may be upset at first with the mandatory attendance and the "no electronics" policy, but she will truly make you forget about all of that! She has the ability to keep over 100 students engaged for the whole class time. Class expectations are clear and you will do well if you keep up with the schedule!
Amazing lecturer! Has been teaching this class for 16 yrs and her lectures sound like Ted-Talks! You will learn a lot about many psych topics (thought, language, intelligence, brain, behavior, personality, MH). There is A LOT of textbook reading but they keep it engaging. Discussion section is fun & lots of opportunities to improve your grade.
Her lectures are like TED talks. It is good that there is no tech allowed because people are actually engaged. Stop complaining about the attendance requirement, tech, etc just do what you're supposed to do and it's basically a free high grade AND you learn a lot.
Amazing lecturer, always engaging and made learning interesting. Exams are straight memorization and get easier as the semester goes on. Big emphasis on discussion section. Not a difficult course, and you'll learn a lot of interesting psych concepts that can help you think about the world differently.
I really liked Dr. Hard. She's an amazing lecturer. However, I will caution you to beware the structure of Psych 101 in general...the class is easy if you put in the work, but I sometimes felt like there was useless busywork involved in the class. The class gets better throughout the semester; Hard herself was incredible.
Psychology 101 is an absolutely legendary class simply due to Dr. Hard. She manages the entire course so well. Even though attendance is mandatory, the entertaining lectures make it very worth going. I highly recommend taking PSY101!
Dr. Hard is amazing, her lectures are such a pleasure to attend and she's by far the best professor I've ever had at Duke.
Lots of reading and tests are very memorization heavy, but Dr. Hard is an incredible lecturer and very effective teacher.
Dr. Hard is incredible. Single-handedly made me want to continue with psych as someone who took the class to fulfill the NS requirement. Her lectures are like award-winning documentaries in real-time. Genuinely cares about teaching and her students. This review does not encapsulate how amazing she is. Take the class to see for yourself.
The exams are easy, but there is too much busy work in the class, and the discussions are so silly. Lectures are pretty good, but Hard teaches with a very liberal bias.
Dr. Hard is hands down one of the best professors at Duke! Her lectures are informative and entertaining; it sometimes feels like you're watching a TedTalk. She is clearly passionate about teaching and cares about her students. I took this class because it was a pre-med req, and I am now minoring in psychology. You won't regret taking Psy101!
Great lecturer, and the tests are a complete joke so that's good! However, extreme busywork: it tries to be a actual science class, but forgets it's a 101. The work is also useless, and god knows why discussions exist. However, if you try even a little bit, it's kind of difficult to not do well. Overall, cut the BS, and keep the lectures.
Dr. Hard is by far the best lecturer I've had. Her lectures are eye-opening, engaging, and have helped me see the world in new ways. On a daily basis, I find myself using the knowledge from this class to be a better person in this world. I truly believe this is the one must-take class at Duke.
Loved Psych101. A little more work than i expected but not bad at all, and lectures are really fascinating.
Dr. Hard was an amazing lecturer and is clearly very knowledgeable in her field. My biggest gripe with this class was that it had a lot of work and, even if it was not a difficult class, it was extremely time consuming. The textbook readings are long and filled with fluff, and the project and essay at the end of the course feel a bit meaningless.
The lectures in PSY 101 were comparable to ted talks which really helped me learn the material. However, I did find this class to be extremely time consuming. I recommend this class for psych majors or students on the pre-law track/ pre-med track otherwise if you are not interested in psych this class will be a waste of your time.
Dr. Hard is a fantastic lecturer. This is one of those classes that everyone at Duke should take because the content is so valuable in itself to just know. If you aren't planning on being a Psych major/pre-med/ this class isn't required for any specific track you plan on taking - take it pass/fail so you don't worry so much about the exam grades.
I absolutely loved Psych101 and professor Hard. She is so incredibly inspirational and every class is like a TedTalk. That being said, the class is a lot of notes and vocabulary, but if you do the readings, you should do fine.
TAKE THIS CLASS AS S/U, or you will regret it. Too much work and too many grading criteria. You have both final exams and papers, horrible experience. But Dr. Hard is indeed a GREAT lecturer and could go to a TED talk.
Hard is incredible. Everyone at Duke should take this class, seriously. She is such an engaging lecturer and makes psych so far from boring. Course is a lot of material, but if you put in the work you WILL get a good grade. Also - utilize the lecture outlines to set up your notes before class and use the bonus resources! They're so so interesting.
Interesting lectures and good professor. Just too much work & the annoying tech-free policy.
Professors Hard and Grisham are insane lecturers. I would say it's a little bit harder than the typical 101 class should be. It was lighter for me because I took AP Psych in high school. The discussion seems dreadful but it's actually the best part of the class.
Exceptional professors who make every lecture intriguing
Dr. Hard is such a great lecturer. She presented information in such a well-organized, engaging manner that I really liked going to lectures. It was my fave class this yr. There is quite a bit of overlap w. AP psych, but there def is a lot of new content, so tests require some good studying. However, if you study, the tests will be super easy.
Listening to Professor Hard was like attending a Ted Talk every other day. She was so knowledgeable and passionate about the topic, and she made lectures super fun and engaging. There's a lot of reading to do outside of class, but the content is interesting.
Great lecturer. No tech in class. Very interesting content, but way more work than I anticipated for a 101 class. Spent so much time reading the textbook as some of the content is on exams but not covered in lectures. Exams are fine but require a lot of memorization. The essay stuff was busy work. Discussion was a joke but super easy.
I LOVED Dr. Hard. Her lectures were like Ted Talks every class, and she and Dr. Grisham made an excellent team. The class was sometimes a lot of work, but it was manageable and she did an excellent job preparing us for anything. I'm so happy I took the class, and I looked forward to class every single day.
Dr. Hard is the best lecturer that I have ever had, she presents the information in a clear and enjoyable way. Lectures almost felt like a story, the information all tied together in a coherent form. She expects a lot from students, so there is a lot of reading, projects are graded harshly, and tests weigh a lot.
Hard is an EXCELLENT lecturer who clearly loves what she does. Having taken Psych in HS, I was not sure what to expect — however, she made class very entertaining and her lectures really are like TED talks. The workload is medium-high but difficulty is low; textbook can be long and project requires decent time. Tests are heavily memorization-based.
Dr. Hard is the best. Take this class if you have the opportunity, material is not only relevant but extremely interesting, and Dr. Hard does an amazing job presenting it. The class is not overly difficult, just put in the effort and you will be rewarded.
This was such an interesting class!
Beware: people rave about her lectures and how they feel like Ted talks, but I could hardly pay attention in some because they were so dense. Tests are harder than they need to be. And watch out for the TA/TF screwing your grade over with the paper if they don't like you. Some give everyone an A and some have a God complex and don't give A's :(
Dr. Hard does lecture like a Ted Talk. She is clearly passionate about the subject and works to engage the class even in a large lecture hall. She makes the topics very personable. I even wish she taught another class, just to take her again. Don't miss the opportunity to take an amazing and useful course with her at Duke!!!
PSY101 is the best with Hard. Every lecture/assignment is so well-curated. Skim the textbook readings for bold only, don't waste your time. Only study those for exams. All other grades are easily achievable, but attendance and attention during lecture is mandatory. Hard makes everyone want to be a psych major, so don't miss out.
Lectures are very interesting. There is a reading for every class, along with a reading quiz. You can do the reading quiz until you get all the points. There is also a paper and other assignments and three midterms as well as a final. Definitely work, but worth it.
WHAT A GOAT! Take this class
Bridgette Hard's PSY101 is a captivating course - her lectures are like TED Talks. The workload is heavy, but managing it with Unstuck study and the readings can help you excel. Definitely worth taking, especially if you're interested in psychology.
This was by far the best class ever!!! I am a psych major and loved this course content, but even if you are not a psych major would still 100% recommend. Be prepared to put in a lot of effort if you want a good grade. You get out what you put in. Do the textbook readings and pay attention during lecture and you will be fine.
must take. amazing lectures.
Must attend her lectures - it's true what they say about every lecture being a TED talk + lectures are super important for this course! If you pay attention during lecture and do textbook readings you will be fine. Course is structured really well and also gets you involved through discussions and research participation. Take even if not in psych
The lectures are great! Though a lot of busy work.
Dr. Hard is AMAZING! I would highly recommend this class to anyone - even non-psych majors!
This class is the most bureaucratic and unnecessarily structured class I have ever taken at Duke. Useless research requirements and summary essays of the class provide zero value to anyone. This class is just an attempt at making freshman girls feel like being a psych major is a rigorous and respectable route.
Let me be the 100th 'awesome' rating. Because Prof. Hard's psyc101 is simply the best introduction to psyc one can have. She is absolutely incredible, bar none
Hard + Grisham have managed to end off an engaging class with a sludge of unnecessary, filler work, all while sending condescending emails. A midterm after thanksgiving, a useless 6 page reflection, and a project where no one gets full points are clearly attempts to make an intro class seem more important than what it actually is. Avoid.
Great lecturer and clearly a caring, thoughtful person who makes an effort for class to be interesting, engaging, and relevant for students. A lot of material covered, and the class is harder than it really should be. No individual thing is challenging, but there are a million minor concepts you need to know and plenty of busy work.
