Great human.
Great professor! He is always willing to help students, and he grades hw and exams very generously. If you go to his class and get used to his exam style, you will ace the course!
The best professor I have had in the Econ department. Professor Pinto is always accessible via email, and is very helpful during office hours. He has real life experience that enriches the class, and the educational experience as a whole. He is overall a great person. Get to know him, and go to him for help. Really cares about his students.
Professor Pinto (that's fun to say) is quite entertaining and uplifting in his own unique way. His lectures are great at conveying the underlying concepts of economics, but he also makes it pretty clear how to solve the problems for the tests. Easy class, the lower of your two midterm grades gets dropped. Textbook not really required.
Pinto is a wonderful professor. He is passionate and really cares about his students. Clear and straightforward lecture with real life examples. 7 HWs (lowest 2 get dropped), 2 midterm (lower of the two get dropped), and I final. Easy A if you take notes and review the materials. Really great class, Definitely willing to take his class again!
Pinto is awesome! His lecture is easy to follow and he has a special sense of humor. Don't worry too much about reading the textbook as long as you go to the lecture. He always gives clear instructions about what to expect on exams. Just do the homework and review lecture notes, you'll be fine. Looking forward to taking other econ classes with him!
Prof. Pinto is not a bad teacher by any means. He explains the material well and shows he his passion for it. However, his lectures are incredibly boring and drove me to put in low effort in the class.
Really nice guy. His lectures can sometimes be a bit boring, but his humor makes up for it. You don't have to go to class, I learned most of the material through the book and the internet. Also don't buy the book, he has the link for an online version for FREE.
Great guy, great professor. Gives reading from the textbook and the following lecture summarizes the important points from the chapter. If you show up to no classes, it won't hurt your grade, but I recommend you read the textbook. Gives one multiple choice HW every week which are pretty important for your grade, but you can collaborate with others.
The best! He cares more that you come out of his class knowing life skills like how to negotiate a job salary or start a company than if you memorized a bunch of formulas. He even helped me with my internship applications in his own free time without me even asking (so GO to his office hours, seriously). Also just super chill and funny in class!
Such a gem! Had the opportunity to get credit for a course he will be teaching in the fall over the summer for free, but decided to take it with him instead. He explains concepts really well and is easily accessible. He gives students multiple chances to do their very best in his class.
Good guy, mediocre prof. He tries to make the principles class highly mathematical for purposes of rigor, but in a way that makes the material far more confusing and less intuitive. Problem sets aren't really related to what's in the textbook so go to lecture, and his way of explaining economic principles is often difficult to follow.
This man is simply a gem. As long as you show up to lectures you will do well, I guarantee it. Has some simple homeworks (drops the lowest two) and even drops the lowest midterm.
Easy A class but no real credit to the professor - he has the right intentions but his lectures are extremely boring and most of the content is better explained in the PPTs/textbook. I barely ever ended up going to class. Drops two of your lowest homework grades and drops the lower of your two midterms though - love the guy
Super straightforward and easy, and he publishes the lecture slides online. I don't think I went to class after the first week because using his lecture slides to do his weekly online homework quizzes teaches you everything that you need to know anyways. Two Midterms are both multiple choice, he drops the lower of the two. Final is worth a lot.
Hardest class Ive ever taken. Dropped it halfway through the semester. Super nice guy though and wants to help you succeed.
Awesome guy who wants you to succeed. Provides the tools for you to do well and is straightforward.
Brijesh is a great professor, and it is clear that he is very passionate about econ. It is definitely possible to do well in his class as long as you go through his slides or the textbook, and he is very clear and specific about what content will be covered. Very reasonable and amusing professor.
Prof. Pinto is not a great teacher. Much time is spent listening to him laugh at his own jokes. Slides posted online dont include answers to solutions (he stated he hopes the answers come to you, which is of no help because he never teaches you). Ask him to clarify, he might laugh or get mad at you (routinely). The avg. midterm score was 66%.
He is super funny and a really nice guy. Econ is hard in general... so he does a decent job of teaching. No one shows up to lectures since he posts his slides online, but he does post the solutions. Honestly, just study and practice and you'll do fine. Attending the lectures does help though, and he is always very kind and answers questions.
Gained little to nothing. He talks at his students and not to or with them. I would think a class that doesn't have a high success rate on exams would reflect poorly on the teacher, but he just continues on with his rants, jokes, and digs at confused students... why pay for a class when he just tells you to read a free online book
Always trying to make everything simple and clear and help students succeed. Super funny and nice guy. Take his classes!
BAD lecturer: reads off the slides, provides no supplementary instruction - I stopped going to class after about 2 months (he posts the slides online). 2 EASY midterms (drops lower one), 7 homeworks (drops lowest), 1 cumulative final. I wouldn't take him for an upperdiv since he just reads off the slides, but he's great for an easy class like 205
Brijesh is honestly one of my favorite professors at USC. I can't lie; he does ramble a lot and goes off topic during class, but he's still a great person and amazing lecturer. He's amazing in the sense that he makes it extremely clear about what he wants from the students, and as long as you follow his rubric, this class should be an easy A.
Super nice guy and a pretty easy math GE. There's like one problem set due every week or every other week. 2 midterms and a final and he takes higher midterm grade. Problem sets are super doable and can be found on Chegg and attendance is only counted for discussion sections not lectures.
Dr. Pinto is a good teacher in the sense that he gives all necessary information in lectures and discussions and goes over plenty of practice problems. Midterms were generally easy if you took notes, did practice problems, and studied. Rambles a lot during lecture so it is more beneficial to take notes from posted powerpoints. Overall good class.
Prof. Pinto is an excellent prof. He always makes sure everyone knows what is expected of them at all times which is super helpful. Also, every single thing that you have on the exams is in the lecture slides so you don't need the textbook or outside sources. He has also been very nice and accommodating during this pandemic.
Makes it clear what is expected and what will be on the test. Lectures can be dull but if you review the slides and study by doing practice problems you'll be solid for the test. Gives multiple study resources. Tests are pretty easy but you just can't miss a lot since they are 42 questions. Overall, easy A if you put in the effort to learn.
I loved this professor. He tried to make Econ more interesting. I had trouble focusing in lecture, but he does a good job explaining or you can just teach yourself the material. The midterms and final are based off the problem sets, so if you understand those you're good. Very caring and reasonable professor.
Professor Pinto is a great professor. He makes the concepts understandable and even enjoyable at eight in the morning. He is humorous and makes lectures bearable. The exams were not difficult and there is not a lot of homework.
Brijesh sets easy tests and always makes an effort to ensure that his students understand the course content clearly. However, he tends to deviate from the subject matter for extended periods of time in class.
Don't get me wrong, Brijesh is a nice guy. However, the way by which he conducts his slides is extremely ambiguous. He will hover over a slide with little to no content, rambling about something that's irrelevant in terms of understanding the topic at hand. Then, he'll go to an important slide with a concept presented, and skip through it.
Pinto is always willing to explain things to you and help. He's very caring and kind, but sometimes his lectures get really boring and go off on tangents. But still a solid class and the grading is amazing- you only get graded on the test you do best in between the midterm and the final.
Prof. Pinto is kind and makes sure you understand the material after asking a question. But while trying to make you understand he might go off on a 25 minute tangent. This might happen 2x or 3x a class. I watched the recordings at 3x speed. Weekly problem sets are good if you work with friends and the two exams you should make a formula sheet for.
I really have no complaints with Professor Pinto, he is extremely clear with his instructions in the syllabus and, if you follow it and do all of the work (easier said than done), your grade should be pretty good.
100000% recommend. I've taken him for both ECON 203 and 205 and I honestly wish I could take his class for the rest of my degree. He explains concepts in a more wholistic manner, so while it may not come out on the test, it really helps to know in the long run. His classes are usually pretty early in the day so get ready for an early morning start.
Prof. Pinto's a great & caring person. The class was relatively straightforward. He only gave us a 10 question problem set a week as homework. Exams were similar to the homework. He gave all lecture materials to students. Go through these lecture materials and you'll do fine. Also shoutout to my TA Kristen Tran for the great help.
Great choice for econ. He gives clear criteria on what is graded at the beginning of the semester. As long as you pay attention in class, you'll be fine on the hw and tests. The TA's are also really helpful and you learn a lot.
I would guess that for the vast majority of students, Pinto is a great fit. Note, however, that I said great fit, and NOT great professor. His class is easy, simplistic, and overall the least demanding an economics course could possibly be. Ultimately, if you are intellectually curious, do not take him; he clearly wants to exert minimal effort.
Solid professor for an intro economics course. Clear grading and expectations, pretty easy if you take good notes and study. Lectures weren't super illustrative, not really mandatory if you can self-study. Nice prof overall and has a good teaching attitude.
Amazing professor. The class only uses ALGEBRA 1!!! Many classmates complain because they're not great at math, but this class does not use calculus at all and it's really easy! Professor Pinto tries his best to explain the materials as best as possible. He's really sweet and always encourages students to ask questions. 1 midterm, 1 final exam.
I took Professor Pinto for both ECON 203 & 205 and both were pretty easy A's, his curves are pretty generous so just stay attentive to the content (you could get away with not going to class as long as you look at the lecture slides) and you should have no problem.
Lectures have less material than expected, so you don't have to learn anything or teach yourself outside of class/discussion. Problem sets around every week; make sure you check so that you don't miss any, because they aren't announced in class or scheduled on the syllabus. 83-90 is an A-, and 90+ is an A. Midterm and final are pretty easy.
Good lecturer and a nice guy. He goes more in depth with his teaching than what is demanded that you know on the tests/hw. Haven't finished this course yet, but an A is very much achievable.
I took him for both ECON 203 and ECON 205. For 203, he wasn't as terrible and was pretty easy so I decided to take him again for 205. He's very kind and organized but his explanations often make the material harder to understand so just read the lecture slides and ask for clarification when needed. If you understand the problem sets, you're set!
Honestly super easy prof. Never showed up to class and just looked at my problem sets and did good on exams. Just salty he didnt round my grade to an A when I missed the cutoff by 0.12%.
Cool professor. The class is very straightforward - you will come out of the class with both an A and a solid amount of knowledge gained if you stay dedicated to the course.
30% was 10 problem sets, had a week to complete on Blackboard, allowed work with students and google answers if you want for these. Midterm was 30% easier than homework problems. Final was 40% very similar to midterm. Both exams were open note as to not make sick students come in for it. I am taking 205 with him, great professor, take if you can.
His lectures can feel a bit long. The class material is easy to learn and the tests are straightforward. 2 tests that account for most of the grade but you are given a study guide and the question are tricky just study and you'll get an A. I didn't attend the entire second half of the semester and was able to teach myself the night before finals
Professor Pinto is an amazing professor and lecturer. He is always extremely clear about his expectations for the course. The material can be confusing if you want to wholly understand it, but if you put effort in it is not difficult to get a good grade in the class. Very helpful during office hours as well and willing to explain confusing concepts
Easy A. I recommend taking this or any of his other econ classes.
Pinto's amazing. If you miss a lecture it's not the end of the world. His notes are very detailed and the textbook is straightforward. Probably one of the most organized professors I've had. His syllabus and grading rubric was clear. He wants his students to succeed, he knows not everyone's ECON majors so he teaches to accommodate all students.
Professor Pinto is a solid teacher. Good choice for ECON-205 and a pretty straightforward class.
Makes the material simple if you go to class and pay attention. Overall a good experience in a somewhat challenging subject.
I took this as an 8 AM so the lectures were boring, but if you go to your TA section you'll be fine! He's nice and answers questions if you ask!
W teacher. Great class if you need to take a GE. We have 7 homeworks total on the year ten problems each. The midterm is open book. As an Econ major myself, Im taking him again for Econ 205. W teacher
Very fair prof: no participation grade (you can skip lecture and do fine), 7 problem sets (drops the lowest 2), midterm/final are open book. When asked questions, he sometimes goes off on tangents, but it's fine because the slides have everything. Probably the most organized prof at USC. Overall, nice guy and really just wants everyone to pass.
Idk what it is but econ professors are just the best man. Easy course with exams so straightforward you can answer every single question just with good notes.
Professor Pinto is a gifted lecturer and his teaching is super engaging. He clearly cares about his students, and wants everyone to succeed. Attendance isn't required, but the key to doing well in 203 is going to lecture. If you do, the material makes sense and is honestly easy- I never read the textbook or went to discussion and still made an A.
I took Pinto last year for 205 and got an A- so decided to take him again for 203. Pinto is easy if you know the material and don't want to come to class or discussion. However, the days where I did show up to class I was bored out of my mind and he likes to go on tangents. Beware however he said next semester will no longer be open note.
please take this professor. please. he is an amazing professor, and even though the class is relatively easy you actually learn a lot. lectures can get boring sometimes but his tests are identical to his lecture examples, so as long as you understand the lectures you will ace the test. exams are open note so just take write some good notes
All my homies love Prof Pinto. He rambles a little but is super knowledgeable and helpful. I reached out to him multiple times with questions (because TAs sucked) and he was amazing each time. I built a relationship with him by participating in class and he even offered a letter of rec. It's easy to do well in Pinto's courses. Would recommend 100%.
Very caring and approachable professor. Lectures can be boring sometimes but he tries his best to make them engaging and you can actually learn a lot. The class is relatively easy and tests problems are similar to those on practice exam. Great experience, would recommend!
Take his class. ECON 205 fulfills GE/econ major requirements. 7 problem sets (only the highest 5 count into final grade), 1 midterm, and 1 final. Remember to read the textbook. Professor cares his students and tries to remember everyone's name.
Don't take this class if you dont know economics. please dont take this as a GE. Pinto is fine, he's a good lecturer, just boring, but overall the topic is just super conceptual. Dont take as GE if ur looking for an easy one, it requires work and studying, more than I did for my major classes.
I think the best thing about Professor Pinto's class was the clear grading curve. That made the class so much more doable. Attendance wasn't mandatory and the lecture slides were self-explanatory. The exams were based on lecture material and practice questions and there were no surprises. Definitely worth taking his classes.
Straight-foward, simple class. Kind, approachable man. Lectures are really boring but it's econ so. Explains concepts and assignments very thoroughly.
Very nice guy, sprinkles some jokes in there, but overall a little tiring and lecture heavy. Very fair on homework, I found tests to be hard. Not my favorite class but doable.
I really liked taking 203 with Professor Pinto! The problem sets are very doable (he drops the two lowest scores). The midterm was pretty easy, but I found the final to be a little more challenging. He seems very caring and his lectures are pretty engaging.
I enjoyed econ 203 with Professor Pinto. Though sometimes the content was kind of confusing to follow going to his office hrs helped a lot and even going to the tutoring provided by the econ department was super helpful. The problem sets were not that hard the midterm and final were a bit harder. However, he made learning econ easier
Pinto is a great econ professor who has the clearest and fairest grading structure I've ever seen. There isn't much work you'll ever have to do outside of class, and it's easy. Sometimes he gets lost in tangents during lecture, but he teaches the content well. Overall, he class is really easy if you actually pay attention and go to lecture.
Lecture can get really confusing and boring, but he has clearly perfected the structure of his microeconomics class. The class is relatively easy despite being a daunting subject. Really good Taste and a nice guy too.
Brijesh is a G. He makes the class super accessible to everyone, and he actually cares about the students a lot. I once had a conversation with him on the elevator down from a lecture and you could tell he really cared about seeing his students succeed. He's a really good guy, and I'm glad I had him as my professor.
He is so nice however it was a hard class if you don't have an economics background. The only reason I passed was because of my awesome TA Issac who basically taught me everything. If you've heard he allows cheat sheets he literally stopped allowing them this semester which was a bummer. Hard if you don't have a good grasp of econ, great if you do
He was fantastic and communicative which is a must for a tough but doable class. The homework load is quite easy as he only gives a ten-question problem set each week (he drops the three lowest grades, too!) The only downfall was only being graded by the problem sets, midterm, and final. Overall, great class and a great professor! He can be funny!
Professor Pinto is a top G and an overall great professor. He encourages people to participate and even get questions wrong. Pinto is also extremely funny and caring. Blackboard page is extremley thorough and helpful; do all of his problem set questions and you are guarenteed an A! Probably one of the best professors I have had so far.
litterally the funniest man ever. its honestly not TOOO hard but defo take notes on paper for graphs and such. every week there is a problem set that can be low key hard affff but also some weeks SOOO EASY! also i did in fact flop the mid term but im on the up and up!! his office hours are the best. wish me luck on the final. :)
I took this class as an 8am and it was brutual, but not impossible. Go to discussion and ask for practice questions not just a reverb of the lecture. Drill the practice questions and homework into your head and youll be fine. Pinto can get off topic so reroute him so your questions are answered.
Pinto is by far the most engaging professor I have met. He makes lectures fun, he is funny, but also just ane excellent teacher. The thing I value the most about Pinto is that he encourages you to try, so much so that even in a class of 150 people, getting an answer wrong is completely okay. He is the first professor to do this. Ur the best Pinto
Great Professor! Really interesting lectures, can explain hard stuff in very simple terms, and will answer any of your questions. He gives a very clear outline of the midterm and final (so there will be nothing unexpected). Homework is one problem set every week, containing 10 questions (unlimited time). Also, very good grading scale.
class is alright, pretty difficult but manageable. just gotta pay attention
The class is insanely organized and Brijesh is funny. Just do all the practice questions and you'll be good for the exams.
Prof. Pinto was a great teacher. If you have taken micro before this class is really easy. He is extremely caring and the most friendly college prof. I've had.
Professor Brijesh Pinto is the GOAT bruh. He has a great sense of humor, is incredibly organized, and does everything he can to make sure his students will succeed. Economics is not my thing at all, but this ended up being one of my favorite classes here at SC. I ACTUALLY LEARNED SO MUCH! Now, let us begin the ritual silencing of the cell phone.
If you have any econ experience the class is pretty easy, Prof. Pinto is a good guy and clearly cares about his students. He's pretty funny and accessible outside of class too if you have any struggles. I stopped going to class after a while since he posts all the lecture slides online. Really clear and quick grader. Recommend for ECON 203.
He will know your name if you show up consistently and will put in extra work to ensure your success if you ask for it. The class is what you make of it, if you buy in you'll enjoy it. I looked forward to it and it was an 8am.
Prof. Pinto's lectures were sometimes all over the place. That being said, class notes as well as lecture slides will help you stay ahead. Worst 2 hw assignments dropped. Midterm and final very easy if you keep up and you only have to get an 83 to get an A-. Don't let my grade scare you, I went to 1/2 of lectures and crammed for tests.
Professor Pinto is reasonable and highly organized. Take this class!
Pinto is so chill, he posts the slides and lectures and there is no attendance requirement. Grade Is made up of problem sets and midterm and final so it is not too difficult at all. Exams are extremely easy and the questions are normally just the problem-set questions but with new numbers.didn't attend more than 3 times and still received an A
Very nice and approachable professor. His lectures are a bit all over the place and he goes off on a lot of tangents. I recommend going to his office hours and asking questions.
LOVED this class. Prof pinto was the best, take it if you can! your grade isn't determined by very many assignments (just problem sets, midterm and final) but at least when i took it (1 year ago) there was a pretty generous grading scale - i think a 90 was an A?
The best. Take his classes if you want a professor who really cares.
Amazing prof. Would recommend to anyone. Took for a GE and was fairly easy considering math isn't a strong suit for me. Pinto is super caring and passionate about his work. It is very clear he puts a lot of effort into structuring his class and writing his lectures. Grading criteria and syllabus very straightforward. BEST PROF EVER
All around great professor, showed up to every lecture enthusiastically and prepared. The practice exams and problems helped immensely preparing for tests. Would 100% take again.
Pinto is just as organized, caring, and knowledgeable in MKT333 as he is in his econ classes. MKT333 is based on submitted discussion questions and a few essays. All of the grading is fairly lenient, but be sure to talk to Pinto for clarification. MKT333 remains one of the most interesting, relevant, and applicable classes I've taken at USC.
Pinto is the Goat
He's funny af
Brijesh is great. Grading scale is insane (90% is an A and an 83% is an A-). Learned most of the material in TA discussion or on my own and lecture attendance is optional, but he's a funny guy and tries to keep students engaged throughout lecture. Would definitely recommend for 203.
If you want an easy A, take this class, but otherwise would not recommend. The lectures are rarely helpful and you're better off watching another professor's lecture on YouTube. Really nice professor if that's what you're looking for but as far as learning goes, not the best option usc has to offer.
Professor Pinto's class was very manageable - the workload was reasonable, and his teaching style made the material accessible. The practice exams and unstuckstudy proved invaluable for test prep. Overall, a solid class to take.
ECON 500: Lecture slides and homework are similar to the exams in terms of what to expect. It might be a good idea to view the textbook to see what other types of problems could appear on the test that were not in the homework or slides. 1-2 problems are different in the exams than in HW. Good professor, keeps the environment light with laughter.
