She is wonderful. Her class is extremly fun and educational. She grades very fair, and if you pay attention and read the material the exams are easy. If you ever have to take a history class again, be sure to take her.
Okay, she was awesome at first because she was so easy and is in her 20s so i figured she'd be super chill (which she is). however, her tests are all essays (and im a pretty good writer) but she grades like a NAZI. i got all A's on her tests and quizzes and on the final i did well until the final essay portion and somehow it moved my grade down to
She's really nice and helpful! Really helps you out if you have questions. She's new to IVC so she's pretty dedicated. Clear and well-informed lectures
Very organized and lecture is interesting. Test (only had 1 to this point) is easy and not overwhelming, but you need to study. Text isn't needed, but Primary Source Reader is a must!
I took Prof. Adams during an 8 week summer school course. It was twice a week 11-2pm and It went by so quickly. All of her exams and quizes are essays, and she lets you use your notes on them. Shes young and very approachable. This class is very easy if you take notes on what she says in class; Its more helpful then the actual text book.
She is one of my favorite professors to date. not only are her lectures interesting and clear...but very relevant. her tests are easy as long as you devote hours to studying and completing all assigned readings is definitely recommended. just be a diligent note taker and this class will easily become one of your favorites.
One of the best teachers I had at IVC. She makes the lectures interesting and she definitely knows what she is talking about. You can tell she really cares about you learning the material. She is helpful, but make sure you take good notes and attend class. You can do good on the tests if you study a lot for them. I recommend!
She was wonderful, lectures were interesting to listen to, she was relatable, knew her stuff, and a passionate teacher. I took her 110 class just because I liked her so much, 109 was better, it's more in her expertise. There are a few reading quizzes on the primary source book, easy if you study, and an in class final. Really great teacher
Take her! She is the best history professor ever. She will help you succeed. Her lectures are not boring. She is helpful.
Extremely easy teacher ! and knows her stuff.not a usual boring history class.highly recommend her
Very helpful and and easy teacher
She is a really good teacher, she makes learning about history interesting. Get ready to write about 2-3 pages each class. There are two take home essay tests and and in class final. You do not use scantrons whatsoever all semester. She cares about her students success and is willing to help you during office hours or via email.
By far best history teacher I have ever have. Yes, you take lots of notes but it is really beneficial to you in order to pass the class. She makes the material easy to understand. If you pay attention in class, keep on top of notes and the readings, you will do well in the class. I will now only take history with Dr. Adams!
Difficult class, but it was honors. Wrote an essay and identification for each of the three exams. Also had a paper due plus points on discussion. Still, I loved the class, and I would take her again. She's super nice and always willing to help you out. Also passionate about history.
Good teacher! Her lectures are so interesring and informative. She is willing to help her students. Quizs are easy if you read the books. But she graded essays like a english teacher, as an international student I never got an A on essays bc she took points off from grammar mistakes. Overall she is great, I will definitely take her again.
VERY good teacher. She is very clear, and very knowledgable in her subject. I mean come on, she went to Berkeley. By attending every class and taking good notes (though she does put them on Blackboard), I was able to understand everything by only reading the primary source book, which is a really easy read already. Take her class!
Very nice teacher and very passionte about history. Used the text book ALOT, so definitly need to buy it. Quizzes are easy, midterms are essays and she grades them REALLY hard. Got a C and I really tried. Is never in her office so it's hard to get help but if you read and attend class you should pass.
I failed, but, she was overall very very intelligant, and a real professional teacher, she is an overall true educator, and has a vast amount of knowledge, i'm not good at taking notes, and she goes over a'lot quickly, i wasn't able to keep up or study, because of my Business, but one of the greatest history teachers IVC has to offer by far
I usually got A's for her essays and once got a 100. I rewrote my notes everyday after class and I memorized even the details prior to tests and in-class essays.. I loved her class because it made me work hard and her lectures are interesting. She's not one of those teachers who fill their slideshows with words. She's awesome & really nice! ;)
She is so sweet! You just have to know your stuff. She leads notes and you really have to go over them more before quizzes and the final. Her lectures match up with the textbook she assigned so that's good too. Also she is flexible with special occasions - she will work with your schedule! I enjoyed her class but i could have worked harder.
Best teacher ever! Not an easy A, but if you just put some effort in she won't keep an A from you.
Excellent teacher with a PhD in History from Berkeley. She really knows her stuff. Just read the primary source book and show up to class and guarantee you will have a B plus or higher! Love her!
Dr.Adams is way cool! She is so informative & im glad i chose to take this course with her. You must write essays so be ready for that, but if you know your stuff you should be in good shape. I love her teaching style and class so much, I plan to take another class with her next semester! She's the best!
A very informative professor. She has a wide-array of knowledge regarding American history. You just have to pay attention and write notes. The quizzes + tests are easy as well if you pay attention in class and answer the questions in the book. She has a nice ass too.
She is super clear in what she wants from the class. No homework really. Grade is only based off of 3 reading quizzes and 3 papers. The final paper is written in class. I would highly recommend hers if you can sit in a lecture and take notes. She is helpful and if you put any effort into your work she will reward you.
I took this class because it was to include the Civil War. We HARDLY spent ANY time on this period. Her class focused mainly on women, with some notable American Indians and black figures in our history. This is fine because I got to learn a side of history that is seldom covered. DO YOUR READINGS and TAKE GOOD NOTES and you'll get an A as well.
She's a very good teacher, and her class gave me great interest upon arriving each day. Attendance isn't mandatory, and listen to her lectures, they are helpful. As long as you read the voices of freedom, ace the reading quizzes, then use your lecture notes for the essays, you'll get an EASY A. I guarentee it.
This is the 2nd course I've taken with Professor Adams. She's a great teacher who has a passion for History. Its not an easy class where you can just cruise along and expect to get a passing grade you actually have to work for it. All exams are written and one term paper. She is always willing to help take advantage of it I strongly recommend her.
Prof. Adams is clear, informative, fair, and helpful. I am not a native, so I was intimidated by her essay exams at first, but she'll give you study guide, and if you answer the questions by using the textbooks and her lecture notes, you will do well in her class. I enjoy her lecture so much that I'm now taking my third history class with her.
Prof. Adams is great! She's very passionate, and very helpful. Go to her office hour, she will be more than happy to help you. I got an A in this class, although I really hate history at first, but she inspired me. Tips: Read the book, esp the materials she mentioned in class and take good notes! That's all u need to get a high score for ur essay.
Took her this summer, got an A. Two exams, she gives lengthy study guides, but exam questions come from that; don't put off studying that. Had 5 free-writes w/ open notes based on primary source docs we were assigned, easy points if you do the reading. Her lectures focus on social history and how policy affects ppl, which makes class moreinteresting
Lectures\power-points are long, but interesting! I took this class as gened requirement, and was expecting an easy A from a boring class\subject, but I was wrong! Definitely a great professor.
"It's a thankless job." Nice person, good teacher. Reading is certainly not a strong suit of mine (and there was lots of reading) but I was able to get an A in the class. Also she didn't get mad when my only pen ran out of ink during the final and had to go up and she gave me another. Then that pen was dry too. Regardless, awesome teacher!
AMAZING teacher, lots of compassionate and understanding. great lecturer, tests are all written, not multiple choice. One paper based on analyzing historical accuracy of a piece of literature. does not grade on a curve. quizzes are open note, take good notes for yourself. midterm and final are not open note so take time to study.
She is a good person but not a good teacher. She does not want her students to get good grades. You will die studying her study guides and still get bad grades. She grades hard. Effort is meaningless, you just have to be so perfect no matter how hard you try; this is what I learned in this class.
Without a doubt the best history professor at IVC. I've taken 2 classes with her and have actually retained the material. Her lecture style forces you to take lots of notes but you'll appreciate the passion she brings to class. Take her class serious and ask lots of questions. Do both these things and I guarantee you can get an A or B in her class.
Had her last semester, and she did make history a little more interesting. But, she is not too great at not showing bias or her political stance. I just want to learn, not feel as though I am being fed propaganda for her views… Grade based off of tests and a paper. Lengthy study-guides. Doesn't take attendance, but gives pop quizzes.
She makes the material a little more relatable. But she grades like an English professor! This is just a basic history course, not a theory course. I think she should be more lenient with the grading. Lots of notes. Gives big study guides, but only uses 10% of it on the actual test. Attendance not mandatory.
Rate my Professor brought me here and thought I got the best teacher at IVC. I wasn't entirely right. Although she goes into detail in her lectures, the lectures were VERY dry. I would tend to stop listening after the first 1.5 hrs. The reading assignments were dreadful and time consuming. I ended up withdrawing and taking a different professor.
Brittany is amazing. I hate history, and have failed this class once before. I managed to pass this class with flying colors. Yes, you have to do the work- God forbid. However, the workload is not obscene. Read a few pages every week and write some short answer questions. Just show up and pay attention. She makes the material really interesting.
She's super understanding when u have lots of work at the same time, just go talk to her. Attendance is not mandatory but her lectures will help a lot. This class requires LOTS of readings but all history classes do!She's a good grader and very kind as a person. Didn't believe I can get a good grade on History but I did thanks to her. RECOMMENDED!!
Okay class. I don't like history at all, but she made it somewhat interesting for me and it did help a lot. I thought I would barely pass the course, but ended up doing alright. I barely touched the books. Just go to class and take A LOT of notes. Details matter. Responds quick to emails. 2 tests, 5 page paper, and 5 free write quizzes.
This class has taught me to become one with my ears because all you do in this class is listen to the teacher and take notes. I mean yeahh you could look up at the powerpoints, but pictures won't help on the tests
This class was one of my favorites. I thoroughly enjoyed each discussion and I looked forward to the class meetings. The tests are easy because she gives you a study guide and the essay is open book.I would love to take another class with Adams! She's definitely one of IVC's best.
Fabulous! Take her and any other class she teaches. Worth the effort and lectures at awkward hours
Awesome teacher and very interesting class. She was very helpful with my research paper, even lent me a book. My suggestion is to go to class, read the material, participate, and go to office hours. The discussion sometimes felt only surface level and occasionally people were shut down for their opinions, but other than that great class.
I've never been a fan of history. My major doesn't need it, but I chose it just for the credits. But this class was something else. The way the class is taught including the level of assignments we had to do was perfect. You had to take notes from lectures and read supporting text from two textbooks. It may sound tedious, but it's a huge help!!!
Come to class, pay attention to lectures, and do the assigned reading and writing, and you should have no problem passing this class. She's a good lecturer, easy to understand, and not boring in the least.
Best Professor at IVC! Prof. Adams is super nice and really helpful. There's a good amount of reading but that's expected for a history course. 4 reading quizzes (can use notes) and 3 writing assignments. If you need help just ask, she's very willing to help. Easy class as long as you take good notes, pay attention and don't procrastinate!
Professor Adams clearly loves what she does and inspires me to love history, too!
I did not pass this semester because I had to postpone school for health reasons in late November. Sadly I had an A up until the last few weeks but I was not able to attend class which killed my grade. This class was very difficult but I will be taking it again and attempting to get an A, another semester. Show up, do work and attend office hours!
Prof. Adams is wonderful. She is fair, composed, and very organized. She is one of the most competent instructors I've ever had at IVC, and she is very witty and clever! You'll need to use the companion to the textbook for all assignments, but I found that the main textbook was more of a supplement to her lectures. She is totally involved in class.
Great Teacher! Knows her history very well. PhD from Berkeley. Really nice and wants her students to do well. Meaningful lectures. Definitely learned a lot
Wonderful teacher! She'll be there if you have any questions about the class. Lectures are typically on Mondays and Wednesdays are discussions. Absolutely loved this class and it is very very interesting. I would definitely take it again!
This was Professor Adam's first semester teaching this Race and Ethnicity course. I absolutely LOVE her! This was my 3rd class with her and I recommend it! She's really helpful, understanding, and gives you every ounce of knowledge she has on whatever question you have about ethnicity. There was a lot of good debates and not an overload of homework
I hated history before taking this class with Prof. Adams. She is very cealr, helpful, and I personally wouldn't say shes difficult. Some people complain cause they're lazy. Take notes and you'll be set for the essays and quizzes which are open notes. Definitely recommend!
Best teacher I've had at IVC! Loved her classes so much I took 3 and changed my major to history and I used to hate history! She knows her material and is always willing to help you! She really cares for you to do well and is highly respected and recommended.
She is truly passionate about her classes and her positive attitude is absolutely infectious. Took her summer class and her lectures were clear and concise, she knows her s**t, and she is really encouraging with her feedback. I really appreciated how her lectures were organized, the whole class went really smooth. Wish I could take her again!
The BEST historian in America. That's probably enough to describe how awesome Prof. Adams is.
Really delayed on grading in our class, and doesn't help too much. But get ready to read the textbook and memorize. It's easy if you can memorize stuff. Also, here's a tip: to get an A you can try memorizing details about certain events so you can include them in your exams (heavy in essays).
Adams is a big history buff and incredibly dedicated teacher. Her class is focused on understanding and developing personal opinion and appreciation for history as a whole. Grade depends on class participation, tests, and paper. Attendance important because she has small pop-essays. But if you stay on top of your material it shouldn't be an issue.
Took her online hist 21 class over the summer & everything was clearly laid out in the syllabus. Weekly posts in disc. board w/ response to another student; 4-hr. online midterm & final; weekly quizzes 25 q's typically; 1x 4-6 pg essay. Got back to student's emails/q's quickly. 2 ch's reading/week (70 pgs). Lots of work but would take her again!
This class requires a lot of reading but it isn't bad. Professor Adams is a somewhat hard grader, but it's not too bad and she gives feedback. She's super nice and is very clear on what's due. A lot of quizzes, some multiple choice some free response. Overall I think this class is great to take for GE's
To say that I love Professor Adams is an understatement. She is the best teacher I have ever had and I would take her class again and again if I could. Not only is she very clear at explaining the material but she sets you up to succeed in her class with clear instruction and her own personal help. Great teacher and an even better person :)
There are 5-6 readings every week and it can get to be al little much. Its a great class regardless and Professor Adams is very helpful
She assigns a lot of readings! It can range anywhere from 2 to about 6 articles per week, some longer than others. It can be difficult to keep up with them at times, but other than that she is a great professor. She is always willing to help you if you need it.
By far, the best class I've taken at IVC. She's very passionate about what she teaches and you really do learn a lot from this course. She does assign a lot of readings each week (chapters from books and online articles) but some of them are very interesting to read. There aren't any tests but there are essays. I definitely recommend this class!
Nearly everything you're graded on in class involves writing. The midterms, final and quizzes are all written and being able to make your point in a clear and concise way is vital. The only non-writing grade is participation and there's no feedback throughout the semester for it. Quizzes aren't scheduled and there is a lot of reading.
I took Professor Adams Gender studies 10 class during the spring semester. I really enjoyed this course & I do have plans to take other courses offered by her. Our class times was TTH. T was a lecture &TH was a discussion on the text she assigned. The text were very informative & enjoyable. Not a hard class & I recommend this course to everyone!
Writes criteria in syllabus she doesn't follow, so it'll be an easy grade challenge at end of semester. She wants students to regurgitate knowledge in the course text and not critical think. A lot of reading. Class average is below a B on most tests so she curves to get the average to a B. If you want an A this can be risky.
I'm not sure what the guy below is talking about. Professor Adams is very clear and she's always willing to help. I took a gender studies class with her and it was one of my best classes at IVC. I'm taking her US history class next fall.
If you have to take a history class, I would recommend taking this course with Professor Adams. The online format is great because the class involves a lot of independent reading and writing that you can do on your own time, which I liked. The deadlines are doable and Professor Adams will help you if you need it. Stay on top of your work! Enjoy!
I took this class online over summer (8 weeks was very crammed with assignment!) I spent majority of these 8 weeks reading the assigned 1000 pages of bookwork. You must and I repeat MUST read the textbook in order to pass! Her quizzes and assignments are difficult. Lots of reading and writing but it was a great class. Glad I took it.
Took her gender studies course. Although there is no exams for this course, her class format is giving out three essays that make up a good portion of your grade, especially the final paper. Its also a very democratic course so contributing to class discussion is important. This course also has a lot of reading but interesting class overall.
Best teacher at IVC! I love this woman. Actually made history fun for me. Tests questions are given to you to study and will appear on the exam. The grade is on you and on how well you prepare. If you didn't do well that is because you failed to prepare.
Very interesting class. Proff Adams does an amazing job lecturing and teaching about women throughout history. Lots of readings each week, but each played an impactful role on the content of the class. She is so nice and willing to help you and responds to emails immediately. Do not regret taking her and if you sign up for her class you wont too.
Prof. Adams gives the students the chance to do well during course of semester with comprehensible quizzes and exams based that the students read the assigned chapters. I would recommend prospective students to enroll since it will be an educational exp.
How to pass this class: 1) Read. Don't skim. Read and understand the material
10/10 I loved this class. Professor Adams was very organized, which is important to me, and honestly this class was just so enjoyable. Every lecture and every discussion was inspirational to me. I learned so much and this class actually touched my heart lol. I recommend.
I really enjoyed taking Professor Adams class she knows what she's doing in teaching. In class there was decent amt of reading but I skimmed and listened in our daily discussions (which were good) and I did fine. She's also on the younger side but still experienced which I felt helped her understand her students better. Overall great teacher.
Fantastic.
She lets you know how to pass the class on the first day. Attendance and taking notes will get you A's on the 3 quizzes. Three papers are assigned during the semester, and one of them is the final. Overall a really easy class that was interesting.
Adams was the best. The class was set up to take quizzes toward the end of the units and there were a total of 3 papers. One being the final, which was a 7-8 page research paper (but there is more than a month to research). If you show up to class you should get an A no problem. The class was very eye-opening, I highly recommend it!
Spring 2017. This class was super easy and really interesting. There are 3quizzes that she provides study guides for all easy. 4 papers that are lengthy but not difficult to achieve. I didn't read the assignments because her lectures were always based on explaining them in detail and there meaning. Take notes and you should be good.
Dr. Adams' classes inspired me to chose History as my major when I transferred to UCLA. An amazing professor. As long as you pay attention in class, take really good notes, the readings/tests/papers will be a breeze. Don't expect to just be handed an A. You're expected to show critical thinking so yes there are papers. MC tests can't show that.
Professor Adams is a decent history teacher. A teacher, yes, but not an educator. Honestly, she teaches like an AP US History teacher. I was rather miffed by her condescending attitude towards her students when she is mediocre at best as an instructor. I'm finishing my MA and moving onto my PhD atm, but my hs APUSH teacher was far better than her
She is a good professor. Everything online is organized. 4 quizzes, 6 or 7 blogs, one midterm, one research paper, and a final exam.
Professor Adams is inspiring and intelligent. Her lectures are usually done without Powerpoints so you will need to pay attention and come to class. In GS 10 we had a few quizzes; a single page 'cheat sheet' was allowed. Very easy. Professor encourages students communicate with her if they have difficulties and is very approachable.
Such a great professor!!! I was nervous this class would be boring but Professor Adams teaches it so well and it is now a subject I am very passionate about! If you have the chance, take one of her classes!
I took the online 8-week course. I took it because I had to for GE. this professor doesn't seem to know what she's doing. There are about 15 chapters of reading and each chapter is about 30-35 pages each, you take quizzes that vaguely resemble the reading and you write essentially 3 papers. And be prepared to wait every 2 weeks to see your grade.
Adams is like a story teller. I don't really like history but the way she structures her lectures and talks about it makes me feel like I'm being read a story. She's really passionate about her teaching and that just makes the class 10x better. Just make sure to pay attention in lecture and read like crazy. One of the coolest professors on campus.
This class is about how women and minorities faced discrimination. Good material! Professor Adams is super smart, caring, incredibly knowledgable, and always wants to help. Each week you have to read SO MANY articles. readings are CRAZY TOO MUCH. test are basically in class essays. Seriously dont take if you procrastinate. Take if ur hardworking.
Professor Adams is the coolest, smartest, most caring person. She's really smart, hot, with amazing personality. She makes you think about the material. Participation highly matters. But, this class is hard. Don't expect an easy A. Even easy B. So many readings, and you have to have a solid understanding of them. Do not procrastinate.
I went into GS10 with no idea what I was getting into and left with so much to think about. This was one of the most amazing experiences of my academic life, I'm so so glad I randomly selected her class to fill a GE slot.
Fairly easy class. 1 paper, 2 exams (essay!), 8 quizzes, 16-17 discussion posts. You need the book and make sure to use quotes and examples from the book for the exams and discussions if you want to get an A. I just skimmed the whole book because it was very detailed and it's kind of boring for me. No extra credit given.
I'll start by saying I really enjoyed History 21. Professor Adams is very caring and wants you to succeed, if you need help reach out! However, this class is A TON of work, do not take unless you are ready to do all the work. I took the 8 week class & every week 2 chapters of reading, heavy lecture, reading quizzes, discussions, and essay exams.
Taking this class really opened my eyes to the world. A LOT of readings, one midterm, a final, and a research paper. Definitely an honors class. Prof Adams is extremely understanding and truly cares for her students. I 100% think that the extensive workload was worth the knowledge I gained from this class.
Dr. Adams is a very kind and helpful teacher. It's extremely easy to get a good grade if you show up and actually pay attention.
Really nice professor and gives great feedback on assignments Quizzes had general topics making it sometimes difficult to pin point an exact answer Does not give extra credit Discussion boards are super easy to do and understand, just go over the minimum word count and use evidence from text. VERY BOOK HEAVY, but lectures help summarize main points
She was an amazing teacher. She is really invested in the students and wants everyone to do well. Make sure to take lecture notes and participate because it really helps. I met with her outside of class and she was willing to help and gave great feedback.
I had taken this course for first 8 weeks and it was very easy class. There were 4 25 multiple choice quizzes, 2 written tests easy to write, 6 discussion boards, and 1 4 to 5 page paper easy to write. When I had turned in the assignments, I thought that I would get low grade, but I got a high grade. Easier than the regular high school US History.
Professor Adams is the best professor ever! I absolutely loved her Gender Studies 10 class and probably wouldn't have enjoyed it if there was another professor. There is A LOT of reading; about 4-5 readings for a week. There are 4 quizzes, 2 papers, and 1 research paper. One of the best professors! Definitely recommend!!
She is so sweet and loves what she teaches! If you keep up with the readings and take good notes for the quizzes you can get an easy A. The Midterm and Final is a bit more challenging than the quizzes but she helps you prepare for it and offers extra credit.
Professor Adams is a really caring and fun professor. Her gender studies class had about 5 readings per week, 2 short papers, and 1 research paper at the end of the semester. She gives you about a month to work on the research paper and she makes sure you are on the right track. There were also 4 quizzes on the reading and class material.
Dont take HIST21 class if you are taking it for GE and need an easy A. If you are majoring in history, great class youll learn a lot from this class because of the specific assignments. A LOT of long writing assignments AND she grades them harshly.
Weekly discussions, some quizzes (make sure you know your material you cant look it up on quizlet), one 4-6 pg paper, and two exams (3 hours and all essay) not a difficult class but make sure you look over the lectures and take notes, that helped a lot, moderate workload but nothing too hard!
She is really amazing! She doesn't grade too much, she does mini quizzes and a paper. She didn't like midterms when I had her in person before the lockdown, so we didn't have them. But, we did a paper from one of the books and she is a tough grader! I'd recommend asking questions, she's a great help!
Okay so I took this class and I am still in this class but boy do I have to say these quizzes are so damn hard I keep getting below 84 on all her quizzes. They are very hard and the reading is very very heavy! You do need the book!!!
I took her history class over the summer and it was very reading heavy. If you can stay on top of the readings, you will do well in her class. Her final, midterm, and quizzes were on analysis of the textbook and lecture slides rather than memorizing facts.
I do not recommend taking this class to be honest. IT IS HARD! SHE IS A HARSH GRADER!! I am pretty sure this is going to be the first class that I am going to be getting a C. If you dont want an A please do not take this class. Her quizzes are hard and her discussion boards get confusing sometimes
This was the worst teacher I have had. Lectures are late, grades too. Her discussions & quizzes are confusing & have nothing to do with the book or lectures. 4 essays timed. Lectures have poor quality compared to her class standards. Only recommended if your major is history. Not worth taking at all.
Prof. Adams is the real deal whether you're a history major or not (I am!). I've taken her classes both in person and online. I appreciate that she teaches college classes, not a high school fill-in-the blanks approach to cartoon history. I thought I knew it all (after all, I am history major) but discovered there was lots more.
An asynchronous class, 8wk class w/ heavy textbook work. Weekly discussions (which were hard to understand the format the first 2wks) are not hard at all, just read the book, you'll need to cite it. Quizzes are quite hard, you really need to understand the material. 1 paper to write & 2 essays (midterm & final), not hard if u read. lenient grader.
Professor Adam's lectures are super informative and easy to read. Some of the assigned reading can be wordy, but for the most part, they're simple. Very informative class. Also, Professor Adams is super easy to talk to.
Do not take this professor if you want take this course as a class to boost your grade! History is quite challenging, but this professor makes it worse. Her quizzes, which are every week, are so unfair, she takes points off on discussions, mainly for not convincible reasons. Once again, DO NOT take this professor is this class is for a grade!!
Dr Adams is a very patient and understanding professor if you don't understand anything she'll easily help you break it down during office hours. Everything was open notes and open book, and as long as you did the readings and discussions you'd pass without much trouble. She'll happily provide more feedback on assignments/quizzes/exams when asked.
Professor Adams is really nice honestly, gave great feedback on my papers, but the only problem is there's a discussion every other week and for every other week we don't have a discussion, we have a quiz on the readings. There's also a lot of reading and papers one after another. You get like a decent break before you write your next paper.
Professor Adams is amazing, 10/10! Super caring, responds to emails quickly and goes above and beyond for her students. Yes, there is a lot of reading (which is mentioned on her syllabus), but I got an A by reading the textbook and received full credit on all of the quizzes and discussions. I don't know what the other post is talking about
Professor Adam's online class was organized and straightforward. She gives good feedback on discussion posts and papers, and all of the tests and quizzes are curved. The quizzes are a combination of multiple choice and written essay-style questions, and the tests were all essay-style. She is friendly and a good professor; you must read, though.
I honestly got through my 8 week-long online class this semester by using her lecture slides. The workload is manageable with just discussion posts & quizzes one midterm and a final. It was all essay questions so taking good notes on lectures is necessary once the test starts I go through the textbook's table of contents and throw the words needed
I took the class as a gen ed requirement. Didn't expect to love the class! This class is READING HEAVY. You will need to read and review lectures to be able to pass. Prof. Adams is great! Super understanding- if you need help, talk to her!
Took her 8-week class. This class is very reading heavy- over 30 pages a week. You will need the correct textbook to complete the assignments. Don't take this class expecting being able to slack off- quizzes and discussion posts are every week. Overall great teacher and would definitely recommend.
Professor Adam's history class was so straightforward and easy. The class was an accelerated class and you did have to read the textbook to do well on the discussions and exams, which made sense. She's such an easy grader and is so nice. Super fast at replying to emails and will help you out with anything you need, highly recommend.
Amazing professor! Obviously deeply cares about her students & the subject that she's teaching. She's always open to discussion & speaking about topics she's not too well versed in related to what we're talking about. She's funny & keeps the class lighthearted but serious and professional. She's also a pretty easy grader & responds quickly.
She was the best teacher I've had at IVC. She was funny and understanding. It was easy to listen to her lectures because she'd keep it interesting. She'd tell us cute/funny stories about her daughter.
Professor Adam's Women's in History class was the most interesting class I have ever taken! You have to read a lot but it honestly isn't too bad because most of the readings are interesting. Fair grader, just do your work and keep up with the readings and you'll get a good grade.
It was an ok class, she said in the syllabus she would curve all the quizzes but did not do that by the end of class so my grade stayed the same, other than that the class is very clear, aside from the final exam there is a term paper. Exam is the same layout as the midterm which is all free response, quizzes have multiple choice and free response
Professor Adams makes her lectures so interesting and even relates it to her own life. There are 3-4 readings of about 10 pages each every week and you NEED the textbook to pass (used for exams). On Tuesdays, she lectures and then on Thursdays, she goes over the readings. Overall, super engaging class and if you try, you can definitely get an A.
Good prof, easy class. Every week alternates between discussion/quiz. Quizzes are usually short answer but she often gives full credit for just answering the question. There are a good amount of readings each week, but just skim over them and understand the big idea and you'll be fine. 2 papers that she grades fairly, and a lengthy written final.
the most understanding professor i've ever had. she clearly cares about her students and understood when i was going through a tough time with due dates. also the class has a lot of reading but i didn't really do any of it but still got an A.
I would not recommend taking her class if you don't have time to READ the book or want a quick and easy A. It requires heavy reading. But if you want to learn something from this class, I recommend taking it. She responds your questions quickly and gives excellent feedbacks. I enjoyed her classes and I learned a lot from her lectures and tests.
Heavy reading! If you prefer lectures and PowerPoint do not take this class. Lecture videos are only short preview summaries and most haven't been updated in 3+ years. Quizzes are a mix of multiple-choice and written responses, the majority of your points will be on your written response.
Easy class but SO MUCH READING!!!!! Professor was fair and very caring.
Make sure you do all the readings and make yourself a study guide since quizzes are open notes. Her class was pretty easy for me but only because I took so many notes. Her lectures may seem boring at times, but trust me just take notes of everything (including your readings) and you will get an A. Everything is open note.
She loves her subject matter, that's for sure. The class is very reading heavy and although the tests and quizzes are open note, they are quite difficult. She's fair and straightforward to work with. Communicates well and is open to meeting to discuss issues.
So much reading and points that u need to remember. (About 80 pages or more from the textbook, and some lecture slides PER WEEK) If u did not, get ready to fail the exam. All the sources that u use should be coming from the TEXTBOOK and LECTURE only. I recommend to take this class when u have enough time to focus on it. Good luck.
I loved this class! It was a lot of fun learning about new things in history from her class. She only grades the attendance, midterm, final, and research paper (honors). Her exams are open notes to the textbook we read every week and any notes from lectures you've taken. She's a lenient grader since she wants her students to succeed. Recommend her!

I would not recommend taking any class with Ms. Adams. Tough grader, a lot of reading, pointless lectures that don't help with anything. No study guides or outlines for weekly quizzes that aren't so easy even after all the reading. I have done all the work so far and I'll be lucky to pass with at least a C. AVOID ANY OF HER CLASSES!
Just as others said, she is too tough of a grader. She gives vague instructions and marks off points for small things. Her lectures are fairly useless. I would never take her as a teacher again! This is a freshman level class, not a doctorate one!?
Professor Adams is amazing - caring, fair, and keeps the class engaging. While reading-heavy, using tools like unstuck AI alongside the textbook can make prep a breeze. Solid choice for a gen ed.
There are over 30pg textbook readings every week plus her slide lectures that rarely relate to what's in the textbook. All the homework and tests information come from the class, you cannot even use google as a reference. Class takes up a lot of time with the readings alone. Not clear which information will be tested on
Professor Adams gave interesting lectures, the class is made up of few assignments (midterm, extra credit opportunities, participation, final paper/exam) that were all very accessible if you paid attention to the lectures and reading (which was very manageable), she gives a lot of feedback/guidance and wants her students to succeed in the class.
Professor Adams is a kind and dedicated instructor who responds to emails promptly. Both her online and in-person courses are well-structured and engaging. Her classes typically include a midterm, a final exam, one essay, and alternating weekly quizzes or discussion posts. She grades quickly and provides thoughtful, constructive feedback.
Super sweet professor who provides solid feedback on all written work, so you know what to expect! Make sure to keep up with the textbook reading though as the midterm & final (completely written) require all citations from the book/lecture notes. Definitely had to work for my A but it was an interesting course with a dedicated professor :)
This is my favorite class this semester, she is one of the most insightful teachers ever. The class is very reading heavy, but the readings assigned are really interesting. Taking Women's History honors, she does take attendance at the beginning of class, she has a day for lecture, and a day to talk about the readings for the week. BEST CLASS!!
I took GS10 with Professor Adams. In the class you have 4 reading quizzes all based on the readings (you can bring a cheat sheet) They are very easy! There are two essays but they are also very light. Aside from her teaching she is very sweet and kind.
