Very wierd guy! Boring...but easy.
Easy A+
Good guy. McGrawhill crap overheads? Easy A!!
Did crosswords in every class and got an A+. Nuff said
such an easy course--i wonder what would happen if he took the tests?
brock is a fun guy. made class interesting.
loves his overheads
He should be a motivational speaker.
live by the book and you'll be just fine.. i still don't know where the tests came from... you won't take a single note. good guy though.
I'm sorry to say I had him as a professor. He devalued my degree by not putting any effort into teaching the class. Exams were 100% off the textbook website. I didn't learn much of anything from the class (I mean textbook). I learnt nothing from him.
Terrible prof, doesn't care about the students. spent more time talking about his own businesses and coke and pepsi instead of teaching the course. don't know where the test questions come from! try studying off the book's website.
The most biased and opinionated prof I've ever had. If he likes you you'll get a good mark, if he doesn't, you'll have to work very hard to get a good mark. You have to suck up to him for him to like you. Hint: he loves Brittney Spears.
Terrible teacher. Don't know why he is teaching. terrible class. What a waste of money???
Horrible teacher. I have no idea where he gets the questions for his exams. Comes at least 5-10 mins late to class EVERYDAY. He just takes the slides off the teachers edition CD and reads them out.
Brock, Brock , Brock...what can i say? He's late everyday, he reads straight off his slides, and makes jokes that aren't funny (occasionally he makes a real joke) all this from a guy who's owned over 25 businesses in his lifetime.... although I'm not sure that's a good thing!
Really interesting prof. You will learn how to do a case study by doing the assignments. He teaches life lessons, not just business ones, and is very helpful. Easy to do well in this course without being a suck-up. Definitely worth taking this course.
Great guy with a unique sense of humour. His sales class teaches a pragmatic and optimistic way to approach management of a sales team. Hardly any emphasis from the text, except for case studies which I learned a lot from (which is good b/c the text is bs in the real world anyway!!)
-- if you're gonna take class....TAKE IT IN SPRING INTERSESSION!!! Cordes has a WEIRD way of teaching, i was always bored but the class was fun in the end. He made us do major group case presentations where groups HAD TO PROVIDE FOOD. i thought this was really weird, but it was actually fun! and i love that we had a TAKE HOME exam! (seriously.)
BORING! Unhelpful. Unclear. Stupid hard midterms. Final's not so bad. Assignments aren't too bad. Try to avoid him at all costs.
You'll come for the storytime, and stay for the food. Brock Rocks! Sales Management is Gold. I had no idea what I was getting into; the course is unlike anything else at Drake. Don't worry about the texbook, just listen to Brock. The course focuses on GETTING RESULTS rather than memorizing terminology. Take Sales Mgmt! Even Accountants!
RESPONSE TO ALL COMMENTS Brock is one of the best assets Asper has. He brings his successful marketing experience and shows you how the show is run. For those people focusing on how the easy or how hard the finals are dnt take this class. Take Brock because you want to learn from the best. Because of Brock's teachings I found the best job in th wor

Brock is a great person, but he reads directly from his PowerPoint notes, he does not go over information in a different way then the text, you could fall asleep in his class but every once in a while he tells a good joke. He's a very intelligent and successful person but that does not mean he is a good professor. Don't take Intro Mktg with him!
This guy is an arrogant ass. If you want to be forced to go to class and listen to him tell you how great he is, then take this class. Oh yeah and the tests are crap. They're impossibly hard and half the class fails. Also he marks from a key, and when the key is wrong, he doesn't care and refuses to give you the marks you deserve. Brock blows.
Easy course that was challenging. Midterm tests are kinda hard, but the final was easy. It doesnt matter that answers were wrong b/c he marks on a curve so everyone goes up or down by the same amount (the person who made the previous comment is sour b/c they prolly got smoked!!!). Overall he isnt as bad as ppl say and he did a decent job. Make sure u read the textbook.
This class was a joke. The tests were crap, opinionated multiple choice? yay. Thats why he marks on a curve. I got an A in this class, and I don't know a damn thing about marketing. If I was a marketing major I'd be retaking it.

Brock is crazy... He needs to do a little more teaching and a little less story telling! get over it your not that great.
His powerpoint slides contain mostly, charts, graphs, and definitions straight from the textbook. He tries to get everyone to participate in class discussion by calling on random people. Boring class, doesn't care much about students results (his curve will make up for his poor teaching), and I would wait for a new prof if Brock is your only option
Not one of my favourite profs in Asper. Seems like an ok guy, but as for his teaching style, I'm not too thrilled.(If consider reading directly from slides teaching...) Comes across as arrogant at times, cracks a good joke once in a while, and doesn't really like to go out of his way to help you. Always late. Qs straight from the MKKT text - know i
Lectures aren't that useful. He'll pick on random students at times to force you to pay attention, but it's hard to learn listening to him talk. You'll have to buy the text for his class and make sure you read it. You're fine this way if he asks you anything, plus it's pretty much your only resource to study for exams. BTW, he marks on a curve...
LOVE this guy seriously he is soo funny especially when he calls on random people and then insults them!! marks of curve which the best thing makes up for not studying too hard! all you need is the text and your fine
Very arrogant, thinks he's the best prof on campus. Lectures are useless but attendance is mandatory.. does not give reviews for exams and the entire class always does badly. However, he marks on a curve so everyone does decent. I got a C+ in the class and barely studied at all. Just bring something to do in class or you'll fall asleep.
Successful man but teaching ability lacks. Lectures are tough to follow and often irrelevant. Exams are quite long and all multiple choice. Big time curve! Overall not too bad but not too good. Nice guy though and has a sense of humor.
he 's awesome cause he is gonna curve the final grades
worlds worst professor. Unless your working on a degree in Brock Cordes, don't take his class. Egomaniac. He will show up late to your first class, guaranteed, just to prove his time is more important than yours.
I took the entrepreneurship class, expecting to learn how to start a business and sharing personal ideas. I wound up hating the class. Attendance= mandatory, computers= not allowed, and Brock himself= an a**. All we did was read about other businesses in the text and discuss why they suck. If there wasn't anything, it was always "they're too small"
Real business man teaches real business class.Yet he is very successful business man as well.Dress up in suit, very nice suit and different set of suit to class every time he coming to class for teaching.Nice person, might give you good advice for running business. One thing sucks,he is always late for class!Period.
This man is very stubborn, rude and egotistic. He promises at the beginning of the year that he is the best professor that school has, but completely missing the mark. He teaches directly from the text so classes are useless and he doesn't give clear instruction for what he wants in case studies. Very biased to his own opinion. Cannot teach.
There is absolutely no point to attending this professor?s class besides the fact that he takes attendance. He does not teach anything but instead just goes off on wild tangents that do not add any value to the class. You are expected to write papers that will be graded strictly with little direction.
Class didn't seem to have a point, learned nothing throughout the whole semester. Extremely boring, and attendance is mandatory.
Awful professor, doesn't care aout individual students or assignments until the last week of class. Instructions are unclear and he is late to every single class. Talks about himself every class but the exams are multiple choice straight from the textbook. TERRIBLE.
Skipped office hours, provided little to no feedback. Lectures completely unclear. Very disappointing class.
The guy really doesn't care about teaching. He can be brash and uncomfortable, but there honestly is something to be learnt from him; WHAT NOT TO DO!
This guy is a gem! Sure he lacks clarity and a general direction, but it is refreshing to attend a course in which the prof doesn't stick to a rigid schedule. Very easy A+, Business and Society = BS = Bull S***! All you need to do to get an A+. His lectures are hilarious if you have the right sense of humor, but I suppose it's not for everyone.
Really funny prof. I never got sleepy in any of our classes. If you just listen to his lectures, you'd understand the whole content of the book. The book is already easy to understand but there are a lot of important info in it that were in complicated business terms, and prof explains them in simplest terms, even uses weird examples.Really helpful
Definitely one of the worst profs I've ever had. Incredibly tough marker and I still don't know if I've learned a thing in his class.
His lectures encouraged a new outlook on certain concepts but this did not help with the exams. No feedback on essays but not a hard class
If you dont buy the textbook then you will do badly on exams. You have to read it yourself to get a good grade, theres things on the exam he doesnt reference which are in the textbook
Going to his class is kinda like listening to an audiobook with an ego. Every word he said was straight out of the book unless it was about him or his hatred for Air-Canada. Seriously, easy class though. Read the book and go to class for the extra tidbits, thats all you need to do.
I honestly do not understand why GMGT 1010 is a mandatory Asper class. If you know anything about politics, the economy, or basic history you will learn nothing in this class. He talks to hear himself, not to actually teach.
Puts no effort into the class. Just reads word for word out of the textbook. Not very clear on what he wants and has minimal office hours.
You have to buy the textbook for this class unless you want to bad. He is clear in his speech, but lectures kinda lack a certain sophistication. Overall not a bad prof.
His lectures essentially consisted of him reading the textbook aloud and giving sports analogies that one could only understand if you're an adamant football/hockey fanatic. I found it particularly annoying that attendance was mandatory, yet I didn't take anything away from the lectures... except some cookies... ok a lot of cookies.
The class is straight from the textbook. His lectures are him going over the online version of the textbook, with a little added insight from his own experiences. In order to do well in the exams you need to read the textbook chapters and study them. For the case studies try your best on the first one and use feedback to do well on the second one.
Get prepared for an early marriage...to the textbook. That is all the class is. The only effort I put in was for the Case Studies, the final and midterms were marked on a curve. Nice guy, but his teaching is iffy.
he is a funs about Coach brands, anyways talk about the textbook more
No point on going to class he teaches directly from the textbook. However, he does take attendance. Tests are a bit hard but if you study your textbook often there should be no problem.
Great prof, read the textbook and its an easy A. He encourages you to be your best and who doesn't want that!
Reads completely out of the textbook, absolutely no value added. Only reason to show up is he takes attendance. No one in class engages in class. He has a huge EGO get ready to listen to him blather on about himself and all sorts of pointless drivel. Would never take another class with him. However, easy grade.
I have terrible experience in his class. He is unprofessional and did nothing more than repeating the textbook. Reading the textbook is what I can do at home. But he force you to seat in the boring class by taking attendance every class. I think he should retire and let other prof teach this course. Think twice before taking his course.
Really bad lecturer. His class is boring. After taking his class, I totally lose interest in marketing.
His did not explain well. The exam is complicated. You cannot learn much from his lecture so that you have to spend several hours each week afterwards.
Not the worst prof out there, but not the best either. You could learn just as much as reading the book by yourself and skipping the lectures. But lectures are mandatory and you loose 1% of your grade for every class you skip. Tests are easy enough if you know the terms from the book. And he curves the grades up.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Get out immediately if you still can. He has no business being a professor. Final exam contained questions with definitions from another textbook. Reads out of the textbook during lectures that are mandatory. I reiterate. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
The guy is as good as brain dead. Case outlines are really vague and the feedback doesn't really help. He has a no technology rule in class so you can't use a laptop to take notes. Goes through a unit every class but doesn't expand on topics well. Exams are tough. Conclusion: Brutal prof, try to avoid him if you can. Highly not recommended!!!
LOL, this prof is by far the WORST prof I have had at the University thus far. There is literally no sustenance to his lectures, as they are completely useless for exams, papers, and the final. Get ready to read though because that is the ONLY way you will be passing this class. Memorize it word for word and I am not joking. GET A DIFFERENT PROF!!!
He is one of those people who is successful, intelligent, experienced, and acts like he knows it. He's extremely arrogant and views students as these little children who know nothing. I love when he gives life lessons pertaining to the business world. He can be inspiring and does have a lot of knowledge to share - just get past the cocky exterior.
Super funny prof! You must read the textbook since there is minimal writing on his slides. Coming to class isn't necessary, but there is attendance. No group projects. Would highly recommend taking the class with him!
This prof is by far one of the worst I've had to endure in university. - Classes are mandatory as he takes attendance - Lectures are boring and do not cover material that is examined during the midfinal - Examination material is originates mainly from course book or online questions Overall, he is okay as a person but he should not teach.
Inspirational, funny, expert, influential GET READY TO BE INSPIRED !!!
Brock is awesome. He engages the class by ranting about ridiculous things and encourages others to join in. He is an intelligent guy who teaches in an unconventional way. Go to class, have a laugh, get inspired
Took Marketing with Brock, he thoroughly enjoys teaching, and puts out the effort to engage the class. He does have boring lectures, and reading the textbook is the only way to do well. But I would still highly recommend him as a prof, especially with the grading curve you're guaranteed to do well on the exams if you study.
WORST PROF EVER. tests are absurdly hard, instead of questions about how to start a business and things like that, questions are about "who said this quote" and statistics!!! Syllabus not relevent at all, horrible prof. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
350 characters is not enough to say how awful he is. Spends most of the class talking about himself, dosen't answer questions, assigments and test are about quotes and defentions and have nothing to do with business. He expectes you to memorize the textbook which is long and overrpice and he rude to students. WORST PROF AT U OF M!!! AVOID!!!
Brock Cordes is very funny and inspirational, and if you have time to talk with him on a non-academic basis outside of class, he's also very interesting. But holy hell, this man cannot teach. Attendance is mandatory, lectures are useless, and instructions for homework and tests are unclear. All in all, great person, awful prof.
If AT ALL possible, I'd recommend avoiding Mr. Cordes' class. It is difficult to summon an adjective for how sincerely I implore you. Text book is great, a standout mkt text.
Great Prof!!! Even though going to class is pretty much pointless, Brock makes coming to class fun and enjoyable. I would definitely take this course again!!
He was probably the worst prof I ever had. First of all he does attendance, and his lectures are mandatory. Because if you don't show up you can lose 5% of your grade. Secondly, his lectures are useless, not helpful at all. He's always off topic. Mostly talks about his life, and what he's achieved in the past, blah blah blah.. Worst prof ever!
He is super awesome. I encourage you to take him
I liked this prof overall, he knows his stuff and he made the class interesting. Yes his classes can be useless to go to since he reads straight from the textbook and will sometimes go off topic a lot, but that makes his midterm/final much easier considering all you have to do is READ the textbook and take the practice quizzes for each chapter.
Brock is a great guy, don't get my wrong. Super nice prof. However, a word of advice regarding the two case studies. ITS A TRAP!!!!! Do not take them lightly!!he wants specific outlines of how to implement your alternative. You'll understand this when you get them. and follow the exact format of the case he lists. Do not waver from the template!!!!
This is my second time taking a course with Brock but i wasn't very happy with the outcome this time. His lectures are pretty close to pointless, when regarding course material, He doesn't really give any feedback, it is hard to get a hold of him out of class, and likes to think he's always right. Grade is also marked on a curve.
Most of his lectures are pointless. I learned everything from the textbook, but you have to go if you want the attendance marks. I got the vibe that he's full of himself and doesn't care much about the students. Make sure to follow the EXACT outline in the syllabus on how to do case studies or you will lose marks for not bolding things properly.
Coming to class is pointless except he takes attendance. He's very disorganized and needs lots of prompting to give you your groups and paper topics. Very little writing actually required for something that's considered a written requirement. His tests are unnecessarily hard considering his lectures have almost no course content in them.
Attendance is mandatory in his class. His lectures are useless; might as well read the textbook itself. He is passionate in teaching this course but he doesn't know how to teach. Grading criteria for case studies is very vague (he doesn't check it himself).
Never had a teacher show up so late so often. Class starts at 8:30 am and all the students are at their desks waiting for the class to start. At about 8:45 am Brock wonders in and starts the lecture by 9:00 am. Ironic since he's big on mandatory attendance. You'd think a past marine and president of a company would have his time under control.
Taking a class with Brock was really boring. I should have taken the advice I got from reviews on rate my professor. He doesn't know how to explain course material properly & I believe if you skip the class you would still get an A. You get no feedback & he just talks on & on about things not important to the class. Really boring class.
Hes there to talk, not to teach. he markers on a standard curve so you have to compete with other people to get a good grade. group presentation - make sure you try to outdo the other groups because he marks based on how all the previous groups did. never walk out of class early !! he will tell you to sit back down. 3
Lectures are completely pointless. READ THE TEXTBOOK. This is one of the classes you NEED the textbook since the exams and papers are based on it specifically and he doesn't teach what is in them very well. Attendance is mandatory for participation grades which is very annoying since the lecture is useless. Exams aren't bad, as long as you READ.
By far the easiest class I have ever taken, I crammed both quizzes the night before and got As on both of em, they were graded on a curve too. Although he is passionate about some debate topics his lectures are fairly pointless. If you didn't have to attend class and only studied the textbook you would do fine.
Professor Cordes is a knowledgeable man, who wants to motivate his students. His lecture does not cover the tests. Read the textbook and tests shouldn't be difficult. Marks papers and group work fairly easily.
If you skipped every class and read the textbook you could still get a good grade. Participation matters, but lectures are boring and irrelevant. Overall grade is heavily curved, no feedback on group projects.
I developed a new love of Accounting after taking this class with #Brock. With up to 30 years of experience in various business ventures, his insight on relating marketing concepts to the balance sheet as well as the personal sales process in calculating year and quarterly dividends for stakeholders. Make sure you go to class, and dont eat in class
good guy
I wouldn't recommend taking this class with Brock. He can certainly talk but he cannot teach! Very difficult to figure out where he takes questions from for tests. He takes a long time if he ever does reply to your emails. Will be mainly textbook reading. He doesn't seem to care or try to help students. Overall not a terribly difficult class.
Good guy and obviously passionate about the course. However his lectures dont contain any info you really need but they are mandatory. Also, gives absolutely no feedback on essays and projects. Didnt appreciate this because I went into the exam with no idea what my grade in the class was
Brock doesn't teach you explicitly what will be on the test. However, if you read the textbook chapters and study them properly, you'll be JUST fine. The tests aren't that hard, and if you've read the textbook you can obviously see that's where he gets the questions from. Marks you for attendance, however, so skipping isn't really idea
Brock is engaging in his teaching. Well, he does go off topic lots he does make his grading not too hard. He rewards people that go to class by taking attendance. Very interesting prof to listen to. The textbook is not mandatory in my opinion but could help for the group project or maybe the quizzes if the slides aren't enough for you.
Brock is not well organized. On the syllabus it said one due date for the case studies but he chooses another day. He swears at his students and is not very helpful. He gives attitude and is just not ideally. His lectures are very long. He doesnt talk about most of whats written in the slides. He rambles on about useless things.
I liked him as a teacher. He taught me marketing. Everything was very close to the textbook which was great. His questions for exams were a little weird. Very example based but ultimately pretty fair. He also graded my class on a curve which was great. Attendance was for marks. It was a good class. I'm thinking of taking another with him.
Great Professor, with so much knowledge. Cares about his students and gives great lectures with the use of his own background in the business world. He is a very successful well presented individual is very punctual and quite the nice guy! I HIGHLY recommend taking a course with him. Favourite professor at U of M.
not a bad prof care about student a lot but yall need to be careful about the marketing cases the formatting is very straight and i dont think he out line it very clearly on the course outline with the right format u can get like a 7/10 with really bad content. need to do a lot of reading tho
Terrible prof. Gives no instruction as to how to go about doing assignments, doesn't give feedback on anything, 5-12 minutes late coming to class everyday. Currently studying for my final exam, and only know 20% of my grade up to this point. He did not grade and give back any of the papers or projects that were due months ago. Absolute scrub.
Brock is funny to listen to in class, but was always 2 minutes late to class (didn't bother me). He specifically stated if you attend no one should fail. There was a group presentation with no direction what so ever. Marks back on the quizzes were quick (all MT q's) but written assignment from mid March has still not been received.. Great guy tho
Attend class and read the textbook for all exams. You must follow the course outline for each of the case studies, if you do, there is no reason why you can't get 9/10. I have taken many classes with Brock and hands down this guy is full of knowledge that will help you in the real world.
fairly easy grader, 15% of grade is simply for showing up. However, we learned almost nothing about marketing .. I had high hopes to learn specific strategies for crafting marketing campaigns but what I got was endless rants about American politics and random screeds against "technology". No laptops or phones allowed.
Brock is an old school prof. He doesn't allow technology and simply rants all class without any structure or relation to the course content. He is very entertaining, and is a great guy. The material is easy enough to just learn on your own.
Course was very boring. He just rants about current events for half the class then reads off the slides. Not a difficult class at all, just be prepared for little feedback on the assignments and he is not that accessible outside class if you have questions. Would not take a course with again as although he is funny, just don't get much out of it.
This is not an easy class, but it was enjoyable with Brock. Attendence is important and if you are looking for an A, don't miss one class. I did find the grading on assignments inconsistent and the marker provided no feedback on why he took off marks. Make sure you study the textbook and know all the concepts for the exams.
Absolutlely awful! It seems like he does not want students to excel he does not give good feedback at all
I'll try to be as honest and unbiased as possible. Pros: Easy A+ class. Seriously, study a day before and you're set. Cons: Extremely unprofessional professor Class adds very little value Mostly a waste of time and money
I'm doing two reviews rating brock a 1 and a 3 for an average of 2 so I have more space. First off, don't be scared of his rating if you have a class upcoming with him. All there really is to getting an A is reading the textbook effectively and try to follow his case study outline as close as possible. But while this is an easy class, there's probs
worst prof I have had in my multiple years of university. unable to clearly state what is expected for assignments. makes things way harder then it needs to be. would not respond to emails. make sure you have the textbook because his lectures are useless, all questions come from textbook. would show up late to class frequently.
really liked this prof, he gives real-world advice which is worth more than any textbook readings. He wants to see his students do well and it always easy to chat with about anything.
