Really smart, knows her stuff.
Undeniably smart but hopelessly flawed. She has explains concepts in a convuluded fashion that makes it hard to comprehend. Poor study material provided and in-class examples are either too complicated or solved before you have a chance to do them youself. Does try to help but does not explain anything concisely enough.
Ms. Bronwen is a smart teacher but instead of having the class do one hard question a week she should also incorporate multiple questions to do independently each class to help students understand the material better. All-in-all I have enjoyed her class so far.
Bronwen is a decent prof she is a fairly easy marker but her questions sets can be tough, Also her finals are tough more like a first year university chem course instead of upgrading and it really is hard to study for it as not much study tools are given the old finals are totally different then the one she will give you. Work hard you will be OK
Dr. Wheatley is great. She's very kind, sweet, obviously passionate about what she does, and is continuously there for you if you need help. She's a generous marker and does her best to convey concepts clearly. She knows her stuff and is an admirable prof.
Bronwen is absolutely brilliant and really knows her stuff. She is very helpful and willing to take time out of her day to answer emails in great detail. Her class might seem intimidating at the beginning, but she is very fair and a generous marker. If you're willing to work, you will do well in this class.
Dr. Wheatley is clearly very knowledgeable about complex chemistry concepts but can break it down and explain it in a way I understand. Her exams are tough, but if you put in the work, show up to class and participate in the group assignments and study, you will do well. I really hope to have her as a prof again sometime.
One of the most, if not the most caring and kind prof at U of C. I personally found her teaching style complicated but that would have beem remedied had I read the textbook before class. She understands if you struggle and will go out of her way to accomodate accordingly and provide additional assistance on course material.
Dr. Wheatly was probably one of the worst professors I've had all year in terms of instruction. She had no templates, unlike the other first year chem profs, and wrote her notes on a screen. Her writing is difficult to read, and her quizzes are unrelated to her notes. She is also never available outside of class, even if you ask. Poor experience.
Dr. Wheatly is a terrible professor. Not to sure whats going on in class ever even if im sitting at the absolute front. She has no set agenda an is all over the place. She does her lecture on some sheet of paper that isnt even legible.
Does not care, plan and simple. Lectures are a mess and hard to follow. Does not respond to emails. Tests are not based on lectures or from stuff in textbook.
I don't know whats going on in her class. Nice, but cannot teach.
Her notes are handwritten and ridiculously hard to follow even when you pre read before hand. Her handwriting is also bad and everyday it feels like totally new material Unrelated to the previous lecture. One day you learn about why dogs bark and the next day she is scribbling away the blueprints to a rocketship by NASA. She's a nice person thoug
Notes are hard to follow if you don't show up to class, and even if you do. I think the course seems harder because of her teaching style, but going to her for help will help so much! Tutorials are also where things finally made sense to me. Takeaway: use her office hours it will save your life (email before just to make sure she's avail)
She is incredibly smart, but her lectures make no sense. You cant read her writing, her lectures and train of thought have no clear direction, and she makes every topic more confusing than it needs to be. She has not taught me anything, just frustrated me. My textbook is my prof.
Wheatley seems like a kind and knowledgable person, but her lectures are abysmal. They are all over the place, even jumping between multiple topics in one lecture. Her voice is low/monotone and hard to hear, even though she uses a mic. Her lecture notes make no sense and are hard to read, even if you attend and are attentive during lectures.
Wheatley really adopts a whole pioneer experience in her class as she teaches from a piece of paper which is literally just scribbles. She jumps from one idea to another barely finishes her sentence and goes way too fast. I went to her office hours and she's okay. Just make sure that you guys are ready to teach yourself.
She is a nice prof overall but, the lectures are all hand written and very hard to read. There is like nothing to read its just pictures! The term tests were hard and I am going to have to redo the course. The lectures go by really fast so, please buy the textbook! Make sure to do a lot of homework as well!
The worst teacher I've ever had. She drones the entire lecture, has super messy notes, and explains higher level course material in an attempt to clarify what she's explaining. If you skip lectures you'll be lost, but you need to read the textbook in order to understand what is going on in the lectures.
She cannot teach. Everybody I knew struggled in CHEM201 if they had her as a prof. Her notes are extremely messy and disorganized. I learned nothing in all of her lectures. She is not engaging at all and never looks at the audience. When the whole class is confused, she moves on and doesn't care. When someone raises their hand, she never notices it
Everyone in CHEM201 who had her ended up self-teaching and using Khan Academy. She is very smart and nice, but is horrible at teaching. She always stares down at her paper when she's teaching, even if she's not writing. She does not care if the class is not learning, only cares about covering all the material in time.
I sat at the front of the class just so that I could read her writing. Still had no idea what was going on. Most people gave up and stopped taking notes during her lectures, we ended up going on Youtube or reading the textbook to self-teach. I heard she's good at 1 on 1 help though. CHEM201 was supposed to be easy but she made it hard.
Her charm and approachability don't make-up for the fact that she can not teach. Her notes are illegible and hard to follow. Although she attempted to "lighten" the mood by making occasional "Pavlov dog" references (are you salivating yet?), lectures were boring and lacked engagement. I didn't attend lectures and taught myself most of the material.
If you have a class with her, drop it. Just drop it. The ratings aren't lying.
I really struggled in her class. She spends half the time writing down the lecture and the other half trying to teach the course. I taught myself this course out of the textbook and spent many nights trying to understand the content by myself. I did not learn orbitals in high school and though this course is introductory, it did not feel that way.
Dr. Wheatley is a great professor. Attend lecture, listen, jot down your notes and don't complain. One of the most approachable profs at the university-makes learning less stressful knowing you can always reach out to your prof, even outside of class time. There's always the textbook and online tools for extra practice/clarifications.
Very confusing lectures. You can see shes a kind/weirdish person, but she just jumps from one topic to another. You never have the feeling you grasped something solid in lecture, its like floating around. Doesnt help when you have to do the detailed lab reports when you have no idea whats going on. Midterms and final was ridiciously hard.
Genuinely nice lady. Does not spend much time on theories and often just jumps straight into examples and application. Messy handwriting, but is always willing to explain it or answer students questions.
She has the most disorganized lectures imaginable. She doesn't introduce topics, just starts them and expects you to follow. She uses TopHat and assigns calculation questions without giving you numbers to calculate with. Does not prepare you for labs, tutorials, or exams in the slightest. I relied heavily on the text book to understand concepts.
She is a very very nice Professor who is willing to set her time aside and caring explain things to you. The issue is they don't make sense. Incredibly disorganized lectures that fail to drive a dirrect point about what you are learning. I had to heavily rely on 3rd source prep programs to survive. Whether you show up or not you won't learn a thing
Notes are hard to follow. Lecture is boring. Whether you attend class or not does not make a different. I had to teach my self the material. The use of TopHat is very disorganized and is unexpected. She would not use TopHat for several weeks and then just upload 30 questions. So be aware of that.
Dr. Wheatley is the WOAT. She gives the most dry lectures I've ever seen, has illegible handwriting and goes off on weird tangents that have nothing to do with course material. CHEM 203 isn't rocket science, but the way lectures are presented, it may as well be. If you feel like teaching yourself the entire course, feel free to take it with her.
Her lecture notes are disorganized and confusing, I recommend attending another professor's lecture and going to third party exam crash courses (beat your course, prep101). However, she is very friendly and approachable and will meet with you and discuss class material.
She sounds like a monotone, high-pitched flight attendant. Her lectures have no flow, and her notes are trash. Read the textbook and thank whoever made khan academy.
A very, very nice Professor, really responsive to emails, and very kind to speak to. But her thought process and notes don't make any sense. Her writing is incredibly hard to read, and her lectures make absolutely no sense. Had to go through the entire course using only the textbook and prep courses. Tutorials are useless as well. Uses TopHat.
Worst professor ever. Her notes are the most confusing thing ever put on paper before. She jumps back and forth on her notes and does not explain many topics well. I learned more from Khan Academy and from exam prep courses. Do not take a class with her.
Dr. Wheatley's notes are a bit messy to read and hard to follow unless you attend class; however, if you take notes WHILE she's lecturing and study, study, study from the textbook and Sapling Learning questions, you'll cover everything you need to know for the exams. She's very kind, knowledgeable, and happy to answer your questions.
She is a very nice person but a horrible prof. Skipping class has the same effect as going. It's all self-teach. She's not good at teaching, just reads off her notes. Doesn't use powerpoint, writes on paper and projects it. Tophat questions are useless. Tests are not fair . The textbook, sapling, and tutorials are your teachers not her. I
Her lectures are very unorganized, no ppt or anything. She just reads out her notes. Had trouble understanding her and when I asked her for help in an email she simply said I am at a loss on how to help you. Youre better off watching YouTube videos than listening to her.
Lectures are somewhat unstructured and her handwritten notes aren't the most legible. The textbook will be your friend. To do well you MUST study the tutorials because she won't always go into depth about them. Other than that, she does cover all of the testable material. Mediocre lecturer but amazing 1 on 1. I STRONGLY recommend her office hours.
She is a really sweet prof, I can tell she loves chemistry. However, when it comes to teaching you can immediately tell it is not the thing for her. Please take the course with another prof if you can, that is if you want a good grade. She does not use powerpoint, she talks very softly and handwriting is barley legible.
It is a bit difficult to understand her in class. However, her one on one is amazing. Really helpful and kind. Teaches concepts as many times as you need during office hours in a nonjudgmental manner. Best professor I have had for one on one teaching.
Dr. Wheatley's cursive writing makes it really hard to understand what's going on. She's a kind person but not a very good prof. GO TO OFFICE HOURS IF YOU WISH TO DO WELL!
She's very sweet & I personally liked that she wrote notes along w/ the class. But she would often say "we'll get back to that later" but never did. Sometimes her teaching was vague and sometimes did not talk about the more important tested material that, if it weren't for tutorials, I would've gotten a worse grade. Definitely read the textbook! :)
Dr. Wheatly was a great intro level chemistry professor. She has a gentle demeanor that makes her seem very approachable. Lectures were good as long as you spent a small amount of time reviewing the daily material afterwards. But, the best thing about Dr. Wheatly was her one on one. She immediately cleared up confusing topics and was very kind.
she does not know how to teach and i can no stress this enough. You will have to self teach yourself a majority of course as she is not one bit helpful. Frankly, she shouldn't be teaching such a detailed course that requires clear and helpful explanations and teaching.
Her lectures are always behind schedule even though she moves really fast. Her notes are extremely messy and her handwriting is hard to read. TA reads the chat, she doesn't, so she moves on even if people don't understand whats happening. She's nice but a very bad chem teacher. If you want to do well in this course, YOU HAVE TO SELF TEACH.
She seems very kind but this is a terrible class, cannot use D2l, every test so far has been graded incorrectly, cannot teach or properly articulate the details of this difficult, understanding-heavy course, cursive writing nearly impossible to read. Don't take this is you can avoid it, textbook will be your only saviour, confusing grading.
Shes the sweetest person and best online prof Ive had! Very helpful over email and during office hours
Professor Wheatley genuinely cares about her students success. With online learning, she has gone the extra mile to ensure everyone understands her lectures. This includes frequent breaks to double check if things are being understood, and staying for up to an hour after class (on days that she can) to give extra help to anyone who needs it.
Professor Wheatley is very caring, always willing to help, and responds to emails almost instantly.
Dr. Wheatly has done an amazing job with online classes. The work load for the class has been very manageable and she genuinely cares about her students. She responds to emails quickly and in lectures she stops various times to check in and answer any questions. Overall, the course is very well organized and lectures cover all necessary content.
Absolute angel of a human being. Extraordinarily kind, literally will take all the time to help you and make sure you succeed. Has no problem with explaining anything from any point in the course at any time. The closest thing you can get to an angel.
Love this woman. The nicest prof you will ever have!
Her notes could be better organized, but all in all, a solid prof.
Wheatly usually spends most of the class time working through practice problems and responding to students' questions. If you're taking this course I highly recommend getting the textbook since the classes are helpful, but only if you've already done the reading. Marking did take quite a while for this course, and regrading was often necessary.
Dr. Wheatly was probably the sweetest prof I had this semester. However, her notes were often vague. I recommend copying down not just what she writes, but also what she says during lectures. It makes way more sense when you study your notes later on. Her midterms were kinda tough but the final was really fair.
She's a very nice professor and seems to genuinely care about the students. She took up to an hour after lecture to go over questions that we have and is also very responsive to emails. 100/10 would take again :)
Dr. Wheatley is super sweet and her course contains simple material. However, her notes are quite sloppy and it can be hard to follow her train of thought. She is super nice and easy to get into contact with though! It's an easy class to teach yourself so her sometimes confusing lessons weren't the end of the world.
Really sweet, intelligent, and caring prof. Great at answering questions and adjusted to the classes needs. However, took FOREVER to get grades but it was her first semester online because of covid. My complaints stem from the class being online, besides that, she's great and I'd take her class again.
Dr. Wheatley is kind of old school per say. So her lectures are synchronous and mandatory but the content really isn't that bad so you can get by with just the textbook in my opinion. She can get really long winded but she is a nice person and does try her best.
Professor Wheatly is the most caring prof ever. She goes above and beyond to answer student questions in a clear and descriptive way. I wish her lectures were more structured, as the lecture slides were nonexistent, making it challenging to follow along easily.
I was wary of taking this class due to Professor Wheatley's rating on rmp. Seems like she took those to heart, as she was wonderful overall. Doing the prereadings definitely helps. Some of her lectures start out as confusing, but she always ties everything up by the end of class!
For already having a difficult class to begin with Wheatley unfortunately made it harder. For a very intricate class with content heavy lectures she would not elaborate or define her expectations of what was to come for midterms and such. If you already have a Masters in organic chemistry then this class will be a nice review session for you.
If being a queen who responds to all your emails and try their best to help was a place, you would find her there
The sweetest professor!
Dr. Wheatley is very caring, and is one of the best professors I've had at the university. 100% recommend.
I think a lot of people give her a bad rating because she teaches courses that are inherently a challenging for many people. I liked the way she presented lecture, with a blank slide and she just writes all over it. I didn't think it was disorganized, I hate when otherprofs just give you a print out, and you fill in a couple of words and thats it.
VERY disorganized. And honestly probably needs to retire. Her lectures are disorganized and whenever I had a question she would just repeat herself over and over again. One time she even said Im at a loss on how to help you if I could rate her a zero I WOULD
Simply amazing. She responds to emails in minutes (even at like 2am) and she’s truly the best prof at u of c. You need an extension? She gives you one in a heartbeat. Love this woman.
She's an amazing professor she goes above and beyond to help you understand concepts. She's also really understanding of student burn out and helps if you contact her.
Chem 203 with Wheatley was like a breeze. Exams were fair game. She is very helpful if you reach out to her individually, which is nice. You can tell she actually cares and would like to help her students succeed. I wouldn't mind studying off the textbook as you go.
Very nice professor who is great at explaining concepts.
Illegible writing, unfocused when teaching, joke of a lecture, you won't ever know what's going on and nether will she.
Awful prof. Large portion of class switched to the other chem 203 lecture because her lectures did not make sense. If taking her class, don't go as it will make you more confused, just study out of the textbook or go to other lectures if you can. Accessible outside of class if you need individual help though.
This professor makes everything more confusing then it needs to be. Better off reading the textbook and not paying attention cause she makes it harder if you listen
I could never read her printing. She barely responded to emails and when she did respond to emails she never answered them properly. I asked her a question that was either a yes or no answer question and she did not answer it with a yes or no. I ended up switching to the other chem class.
Does not teach AT ALL. All our midterms so far most of us students had to teach our selves off the textbook or pay extra for Wizeprep. Her lectures are boring, and she only goes over questions on the textbook. 0/10 would not recommend.
This professor has horrible handwriting. She has no passion when she speaks which makes it hard to follow along. She will find a way to make the response to the question complicated when in reality it is a yes or no response. The majority of the class ended up switching to the other chem lecture because this professor could not teach at ALL.
Course content was easy however made difficult to understand. Lectures were disorganized with few notes given but rather multiple examples shown at too fast of a speed to comprehend. The textbook will be your best friend in this class.
Get ready to read the textbook and get ready to teach yourself.
Worst class of my life. Never went to class because the notes were completely unrelated and unorganized.
Dr. Wheatley's lectures are a pain to live through. A very monotone voice, fast paced lectures, and disorganized notes. She is, however, pretty accessible outside class and replies to email within a couple days. Chem 203 is an easy course and the textbook will definitely get you through it. But be ready to teach yourself the entire course.
She was decent. Her lectures could be a bit boring, but she did use a ton of examples that was helpful to knowing how to solve the problems, but it is essential to use the textbook to supplement your learning and practice a lot of problems on your own to do well as the course moves fast.
Wheatley's notes were very vague and not really helpful, and so were her lectures. But she strictly follows the textbook for exams, which is why reading the relevant textbook chapters and doing the practice questions beforehand is more than enough to get you a good grade on the exams. Overall, the easiest chem course I've taken thus far!
Had lots of resources if you struggle with writing but if you don't you'll be fine in this class. Wheatley is a super sweet lady but class time was a joke. You had to attend because of daily group work that takes 10 minutes but wait an hour for the rest of the class to submit before she would go over the answers. Class would end early lots though.
The lectures weren't too confusing, but they were very dry and I would often zone out.
She knows her stuff and is available outside class time. There were barely any posts on D2L; almost all course content was via email attachment. The rubrics are very vague. My group members and I often referenced other rubrics to comprehend better what was needed since she was a bit of a harsh grader, considering the vague rubrics she provides.
Good feedback but not clear expectation
whoever sayin she unorganized is tripping bruh shes hella organized wdym. knows whats shes doin. you might have trouble reading her handwriting but thas bout it
Gotta disagree with the people who say she is unorganized. The lecture notes are pretty clear, and while she may go to fast on certain things, everything is posted after lecture. The lectures aren't phenomenal or anything, but they serve their purpose well and it's worth going to them even with the posted notes.
Her lectures are informative, but dry, and her handwriting is poor. She is a pretty nice person however. For the final, she informed us it would be mostly focused on the last three chapters, yet the test was as cumulative as can be, which was a surprise to many. Hardly any prep material either, she says it's because the course was "restructured".
Good professor, lectures were organized and would let us know hints for possible exam questions. She was hindered a bit by the end of the semester as we lost two days of lectures due to federal holidays so she had to fit the rest of the content into a smaller schedule, so some people may say she went too fast and skipped some content.
she's great. everything in exams were covered in lectures. not too much class interaction, if you have questions, they probably wont be answered. also her notes are clean but you gotta go to class to fully understand them
What was good about Dr Wheatley is that she has a very nice soothing voice, and sometimes it's very nice to sit back and listen to her. Her notes however, were disorganized, hard to read and most of the time she would go faster than the speed of light and you can not keep up. Overall a nice person, doesn't involve the class much though.
Wheatley was a kind professor and responded to questions through email with detail, but her lectures were hard to keep up with. She went extremely fast so I always felt lost despite attending class. I couldn't interpret her notes and didn't find them very useful, so one thing I'd say is use the textbook and that might help you pull through.
Very knowledgable in the material she is teaching but makes understanding/learning it very hard. Lectures are extremely rushed and sporadic, which almost always had me rushing to get notes down without actually taking in what was being taught.
Wheatley's lectures were very fast paced and content heavy. Personally, it wasn't a problem for me, although and I can see how it would be very hard to keep up with her style of teaching.
The notes very disorganized and she talks very fast. Definitely a class where you gotta put in most of the work, imo attendance isn't necessary because it was more confusing listening to her.
dunno why people hate her, she's a great professor. goes kinda fast and if ur not paying attention u can fall behind, but i never found her too confusing. reading her notes after class might be a little confusing, but as long as u focus and read the textbook with her notes, you'll be locked in for an A
Shows exactly what you're expected to do in exams, but oversimplifies sometimes.
Professor Wheatley's lectures are informative, though a bit dry at times. The course material is well-organized, but her handwriting can be a challenge. I found unstuck ai helpful for reviewing concepts and preparing for exams. Overall, a solid class if you stay engaged.
Avoid this prof if you can. Her lectures are a snoozefest, and her handwriting is illegible. I had genuinely no idea what I was doing in this class. I ended up going to another prof and it went much better. She's clearly very intelligent and knows her stuff, but I wouldn't say a great first year prof.
