SHE IS AWFEL!!!!!!!!!!!! So much work that requires time. Easy are hard and anything will make you fail you and get a low grade. She gives feed back but they are not understandably. So much effort is required in this class.
Professor Thrift made English class enjoyable. If you have questions about any assignments, she is always there to help. She is respectful and organized and is overall an AMAZING and sweet professor. I took this class online, there is a lot of writing, but you will do great if you manage your time correctly. Take her class you won't regret it!
Professor Thrift gave not easy but not hard essays to write, and her instructions were clear. If there is any question, she will respond with a nice tone, and not simply respond to get it done with, but to help. The only thing is she doesn't respond on weekends (Friday-Sunday), so just email her before.
Professor Thrift is great responding to questions and giving feedback. She walks you through each assignment and lays everything out so no surprises. She breaks down each assignment and has a detailed calendar for due dates. She offers extra credit to turn in rough drafts and patriciate in peer feedback. I highly recommend her for classes.
I just finished taking Professor Thrift this semester and she is amazing! She genuinely cares about her students and is always there if you need help!
Prof. Thrift is a great English teacher!! Take her class.
she cares about her students very much
I took professor thrift just recently and I honestly would take her again! She is an amazing English teacher!! She is super caring because she truly shows that she really cares about all her students. She gives really good feedback from your papers. If you do your work on time then you will get an A! She provides so much resources that are helpful!
Professor Thrift is a great professor, but not for everyone. The class is nothing but writing obviously, but I will say she is a tough grader. If your paper doesn't meet one of the criteria on the instructions do not expect an A. On some papers I would try my hardest and still end up with an 80 after check listing every box in the instructions.
Professor Thrift is amazing and well organized. I struggled in her class a lot but she was always reachable and tried her best to help. She is somewhat a tough grader and knows what she is looking for, so if you are struggling and can actually make time to meet with a librarian like she advices you to do then I think you'll be set.
Very good professor, the extra credit she gave was very helpful, and she gave feedback on rough drafts to fix for final essays.
Professor Thrift gives specific directions and grading criteria. She also provides opportunities for peer review and then gives feedback too so you can get lots of help on papers. She also recommends getting help from the LSC librarians which is good advice. It is a writing class so you will do a lot of writing. It takes a lot of time.
Though the past 1.0 rates were valid according to Professor Thrift, you can tell she's used those critiques and applied them to future classes. Extra credit was offered, though unnecessary since the assignments were manageable. I appreciate the 8-hour grace period as I had to use it once. Overall, she's a good teacher, if a little too lenient.
I took this class online. She is a very good professor. I found some of the essay guidelines a bit unclear as I thought I answered the prompts sufficiently but ended up receiving points off. The extra credit opportunity was extremely generous and helpful, given so few assignments. She is more than willing to help and answer any questions.
Professor thrift has been great she is a though grader over the smallest things but overall reasonable she gives a decent amount of time to complete essays and gives you good feedback she also gives examples to help you understand assignments as well overall a great professor and I would take her again.
I didn't have an overbearing workload, unlike many other English classes. However, Professor Thrift was picky about small details, which was understandable. I took it as though she wanted me to be aware of the things keeping my paper from perfection. I also enjoyed the extra credit, but she could have used more detail when teaching new concepts.
Just make sure you get your work done as in any other class. She is a really good teacher I never had a problem with her. Mrs.Brooke is always willing to help, I don't know why people say she is not good but she cares and is cool to know. Always engages with her students, and is very organized with her work, I like a teacher who has structure.
Prof. Thrift was a fantastic English 1301 professor there were three essays in our semester, with lots of extra credit opportunities. if you struggle with writing essays I recommend taking her class.
Very good professor. Always gave feedback and helped with essays in class. If you show up to class your essay will be close to perfect. I would take this class again. I have high hopes for 1302.
Professor Thrift was such a great professor! Her 1301 class was so easy, we wrote 4 papers over the semester, one of them just a diagnostic paper. Each paper had a period of 2 to 4 weeks to be completed. Lectures are short and easy. She offers lots of extra credit opportunities and she's very open to help. Don't have to be a great writer to pass.
Professor Thrift is a great professor. Over the course we wrote 4 papers and every assignment she provided many extra credit opportunities for your benefit. She also gives great and clear feedback on your papers. I recommend taking her courses. She was so great that I am taking her for another semester !
Professor Thrift was amazing! She is so nice and caring. The work was not difficult and she offered plenty of extra credit opportunities. She will gladly help you with your work and you'll leave the class being a better writer as she does give good feedback as well. I 100% recommend you take her class.
I have always struggled at writing essays for my English classes and Professor Thrift helped me expand my love for writing. She was always there whenever you needed her, class issues or not. She was not a hard grader but expected college-level work as most professors do. She was amazing and I am excited to take her ENGL. 1302 class!
Professor Thrift is the best professor anyone could have. She treats every student with respect and constantly roots for them to do better. She likes to check on you and ensure that you are not falling behind. She's an amazing person and very understanding of her students. She offers a lot of extra credit, so it's almost impossible to fail.
Professor Thrift is amazing! She genuinely cares about you passing and encourages for you to reach out to her for any help/support. Most assignments are optional and we only had 3 major essays. Highly recommend!
Best professor anyone could ask for! She gives enough time to complete assignments and gives extra credit opportunities constantly. She is very helpful and wants to see everyone succeed.
Please ignore the fact that her rating is low. I took the chance and did not regret it. She offers so many extra credit assignments and just had three essays for us to do. She gives you more time than you need to work on your essays. She is very clear on directions and I wish I could take her again! She cares about all of her students.
Best professor, LOTS of extra credit & papers are due at 8AM mon. instead of Sun11:59 lol. Just do the work on time! most class days are "work days" and gives time to ask for help and get the papers done. There's 3-4 essays in 1301&1302 classes, the 1st being for her to analyze your writing style. The rest are longer but have 2-4 weeks to finish.
I took the risk of taking her class last fall, and I'm glad I did. These ratings do not represent her as a professor. She is very nice and offers plenty of extra credit, making it impossible to fail. There is also an 8-hour grace period for essays. Just do the work, submit it on time and you'll pass.
Professor Thrift is an amazing instructor who genuinely cares about her students. She offers plenty of extra credit and flexibility, making the class manageable. Unstuck ai was a great study tool alongside the free textbook. Highly recommend!
I will take this professor again. I took her for 1301 & she was helpful & flexible. She is kind & understanding so if you have a problem, let her know, and she will work with you. When she grades she gives great feedback for improvement. Overall this was my favorite professor, so if you want to have an easy & fun class take Professor Thrift.
Prof. Thrift is an amazing teacher caring, understanding, & overall nice. She gives tons of extra credit opportunities & prioritizes mental health over anything else. Mexican American Literature was informational to learn about folklore and magic realism. She's passionate about her teaching & cares for her students. You won't regret taking a chance
For an entry level course she was one of the hardest. Thrift makes up her own rules and refers to herself in 3rd person. I worked with writing lab on almost every assignment. They weren't much help because she created her own rules for writing so how could they help?. I would not recommend her at all. She very sarcastic and rude at times.
She's a good teacher but way too emotional. She'd freak out if you hadn't done an assignment or read the readings. I liked her lessons and assignment, as well as topics she chose to talk about. I wouldn't take her again due to her attitude.
Prof. Thrift is an amazing teacher caring, understanding, & extremely nice. She gives tons of extra credit opportunities making her class hard to fail. It was fun and interesting learning about Mexican American literature. She's passionate about her teaching & cares for her students. You won't regret taking a chance and taking her class.
Professor Thrift was an amazing person to work with, as she was very kind, thoughtful, and considerate. Although there were four papers for the class, she was not a very harsh grader, and as long as you follow the grading criteria you should be fine. Professor Thrift gives lots of opportunities for extra credit, which I definitely appreciate!
Professor Thrift was a great professor in my eyes. She grades lightly and makes sure to double check our work so we do everything properly. She is kind and very approachable, especially if you have any issues. If you are to join her class be prepared to read and write essays (Its not a lot, just make sure you have time), and turn in work on time!
Prof. Thrift was great, very well organized and she always responded to my emails very fast. There's a discussion and a quiz every week but they're all easy and open book + four papers in total but you have two weeks for each one and you would get extra credit if you submit your draft. There's also tons of extra credit opportunities! Take her!
This professor creates a very negative and stressful class environment. She's rude when students ask for help, and the workload is excessive. The grading is harsh, feedback is confusing, and rules seem to change without warning. I would strongly advise others to avoid this class if possible.
Amazing teacher! Very understanding and helpful, very easy to approach. We only wrote like 3 papers and for our final paper she gave as an opportunity to attend an event and she would give us an automatic 80 on our essay, so we didn't have to do it at all. We read 2 books and some short stories, not boring at all and very fun readings!
I loved this class, and it opened my eyes about the issues that Mexican Americans face daily. I got the opportunity to learn about different great authors' works and how they impacted literature. This class is a must, so please take it. Professor Thrift is the best, and these reviews do not justify how amazing and caring she is.
An Amazing teacher. You only have two read two books and write three essays that are about the books. As long as you read the syllabus you will do fine!
It was online, however, it pretty easy to follow everything was laid down clearly. One discussion a week and a quiz/assignment a week. The books needed for reading are great. The professor is engaging and provided feedback on essays.
She's a great professor, and is very understanding. If you have any questions on any assignment, she always answers them.
Professor Thrift is great, took her for Summer classes, there was a moderate amount of assigments and they were all easy, she lets you turn in late work (with a penalty of course) and is just in general really easy going. 100% pick her, English is usually such an annoying heavy class and she makes it super easy.
She was not only a tough grader but carried an entitled attitude and gave little inspiration or help. Many students struggled to finish, myself included, and I rarely withdraw from classes. Education is an investment, and with all due respect, this course failed to provide the supportive environment we deserve.
I took Prof. Thrift's class as an online 8-week course and I would say it was worth it. The class is not the easiest, with lots of papers and reading required in a short time. However, she is not a tough grader and is very easy to reach out to in case you have questions, for which she is flexible and understanding. Take it if interested in subject.
I had an excellent experience taking ENGL1301 with Professor Thirift. She is kind, thorough, and fair. Her replies were fast, and she always answered all of my questions. I highly recommend her class.
I loved Professor Thrift, even though I was an online student; she was always available. She's very easy and understandable. She gives you three main essays, with about 2 weeks to work on each, and no final. Everything else is discussions, journals, and one or two quizzes. And she gives extra credit for peer editing, essay points.
I don't understand why this professor is rated low. She's very easy if you diligently do essays in your own words - no AI. A tutor is available to help with writing. Low scores or accidental AI detection can be retaken. One low minor assignment can be dropped, and there's no final exam.
