Teaches Macroecon. Horrible class!! If you like economics do not take this class because you will hate it in the end. I feel like I'm in class with the teacher from "Peanuts" whah-whah-whah, that's all I hear. Nice guy but not a good teacher. If you don't believe me look at St. Cloud State...
He is a nice guy but lectures are boring and dry. He is more then willing to help outside of class. Don't show up late, eat, or have a cellphone. Sometimes he has wierd burts of anger and then laughs about it a minute later and apologizes. Can be entertaining. Tests are fair to what he goes over. Show up take notes and you will do well
I thought Brooks was a fair teacher and is a pretty nice guy. Sometimes a little boring but I thought he does well, especially for an econ Prof. I will be taking his macroecon class and will leave another rating.
Definitely knows his stuff but the tests are a pain - lots of ambiguous answers. Also - he makes you write down notes from his powerpoint slides, but he's lecturing while you're writing, so either you miss the lecture or miss the notes.
This is a difficult subject from the getgo. I only did well in this class because brooks was such a good prof. He makes class fun and doesn't take anything from anyone. Hates it when you're late and don't let your cell phone go off. He curves decently. I took micro and macro with him. Take this class if you need econ.
Brooks is a nice fella and a descent professor. Answers a lot of kids' questions with "I'm not going to get into that". Lectures are a litte long winded, a monkey could do his assignments, and his tests are very fair. Good class to take if you want to be a penny pincher.
He tries hard to make class interesting. Tests are somewhat difficult. You will need to study for these tests. Homework is very easy and useful.Homework is done online so you can do it whenever you want. I would reccomend Brooks.
Great teacher explains everything in detail, will help with any questions that you have. Online homework is easy and quick, gives you multiple chances to do it so you should get near 100% on every one. Tries to make class interesting, with moderate success.
Great teacher, KINDA funny. Nice guy homework is easy, tests are easy, interactive lectures and notes. TAKE THIS GUY!
Funny Guy and great techer. Very willing to help
Brooks is an alright teacher. His classes are really lame though, he tries to make jokes but they dont work and half of the class always sleeps. His quizes are really easy but his exams are really hard and a lot of questions that you wont know if you wont study
Brooks is a great professor. He tries to make class interesting which is more than you can say for 90% of prof. at this college. He answers everybody's ?s so he can get a bit behind but it's not hard to keep up. quizzes are extremely easy, tests are easy as long as you study. (goes with out saying) I recommend him.
Brooks is really a great guy and a good professor. The material is so incredibly boring, but he tries really hard to make it interesting! The homework is really easy, you should be able to get 100 percent on every one, and the tests are too bad either. I would definately recommend Brooks if you have to take economics!
Good Teacher, answers all questions and willing to go the extra mile for his students. Very understanding about missed classes for military reasons. Homework is easy, just don't forget to do it. Highly recommended.
Brooks is able to make a deathly boring subject interesting. His homework is easy, but his tests are hard, so study for them. Thankfully I don't have to take anymore econ classes, but if I did, I would sign up for Brooks again.
Brooks loves what he does. If you want to take econ classes for electives, think again. econ if very hard. If you miss class, then it is tough to get back on pace. Brooks is an awesome teacher though. likes to include the class and makes up awesome stories for examples.
Good teacher with a sense of humor. The course is taught in a linear fashion and follows the syllabus.
is a good prof, but does get a little annoying at times. has very very good powerpoints that cleary explain class topics. sort of boring structure just lecture of what is on the board with a few minutes of news clips every chapter. has strict rules on homework and such, but is willing to work with the students a little.
Personal Finance sucked. Seriously, if you have ANY knowledge on checking accounts, making large purchases or anything don't bother taking this class. He was convinced in the middle of a snow storm that people were going to go to class! He took attendance and wouldn't cancel class because if he was there everyone else could be! HORRIBLE!
He knows his subject very well, but unless you're able to listen to, possibly the most boring lectures you will ever hear, you will not learn much. The first day he said, "You know.. Love conquers all, until the first payments due." After that he had little of my respect. His grading is unfair at times, and he turns simple questions into debates.
If I hear Goldy Locs syndrome "jeeest right" again please shoot me! Won't answer questions, insists that you see him after class or during office hours. Working FT that's the last thing I want to do! Very annoying, tests are geared for class avg of 76! Class lasts til bitter end even if he has to fill it with all of his BS! SUCKS!!!
AWFUL! AWFUL! AWFUL!
Professor Herrboldt is a good instructor. Homework is pretty easy, but the tests are really hard. Count on using your textbook quite a bit if you want to have any success at achieving a good grade in this class.
Lots of energy - you won't sleep in this class. Uses different methods - mixes it up. Some lecture, then examples on board, then in-class worksheet. And it's a great book! Also, he uses online Aplia program for practice and homework - I like this tool.
Great professor. His lectures are well organized and gives you partial power points ahead of time so you can follow along easily. He knows a lot about economics so he can answer questions in depth, yet he keeps his answers appropriate to a intro class. Homework is all turned in online which I really liked.
Such a great teacher! This was my first exposure to econ & now I'm majoring in it. I appreciate him more now; my current profs are unable to teach the subject because their heads have been in books since kindergarten. He makes the class interesting & relevant. It is not an easy subject, but he's gifted at teaching it. Use the textbook for clarity.
I would not recommend an online class with him. I don't know about on-campus. Online, he was very condescending and snotty to his students - always trying to nail them for being wrong, never pointing out where they are right. Discussion board was useless charade. Still, homework and tests are straightforward and you can still learn the material.
I dont like him at all. I took his online class and he seems like a prick. He doesnt want to hear opinions on the subject and anytime I stated mine via email to him or on the discussion board he said I was 'inappropiate'. The class doesnt help apply the concepts to the real world either. He claims you have to put in 20 hours of work each week FYI.
Brooks is THE best. I hadn't really thought about 'enjoying' Micro and Macro Econ, but he made these classes so enjoyable and involving. Pay attention to his posted videos online (they are there for a reason) and his quizzes. Tests are pretty difficult, but they are graded on a curve. I had Bs on the tests but ended up with an A in both classes.
This guy is great. The only negative aspect about him is his bad jokes. They are not mean and not funny. He is a bit off, but he knows his stuff. He is very understanding and is legitimately a great guy. I am very happy that I just finished his class. His class is truly very easy but you just need to read half of the book.
He is simply a great guy. His class is very easy too. If you read half the book you will get an A for sure. He is understanding! Down side: he isn't' funny, but he tries.
so easy. but still fun. take this class!! it makes econ fun. : )
Haha brooksie what a class. That's all I got to say brooks what a guy
Brooks is great! He was born to be a teacher... it's clear he loves his job!
Brooks is a great teacher, however not very challenging. I didn't even attend class for the first 4 weeks but i did read the book. I attended for the first time in order to take the first exam and got a 87 while the class average was a 77. He could challenge his classes more...
Brooks is very odd. He is one of my favorite teachers by far. He really enjoys what he does. His humor is extremely awkward but always kept me laughing. He also helped me get my foot in the door at the U. it's an easy class if you attend.
This economist knows his material, but has very annoying manners. His powerpoint slides are very helpful.
He made learning economics interesting because of his quirky personality. I really enjoyed the class and was nervous about it before taking it. Would definitely take another class from him.
He is not helpful and I am a 4.0 student. If you want an A, take any other teacher PERIOD.
MOST USELESS INSTRUCTOR I HAVE EVER HAD. Doesn't help with anything. Do not ask questions like "Can you help with this assignment" or "How is our grade calculated" he will tell you to look to the incomplete syllabus - which does not tell u which Ch to study by week. Took online, little points which makes it hard, no disc. Recommend diff instructor
Very good online teacher. Powerpoints are very useful. Very funny and entertaining and makes the class interesting after going into the semester having no knowledge in Macro. Would definitely recommend.
it's obvious that he loves his job and those who take his class. He gives many examples that help you understand the concept. Also, his humor is so awkward and strange that it keeps you awake during class
i took this class online. he made his own powerpoints with him in the video explaning vocab and problems, etc which is extremely helpful. u get to take each quiz 3 times and you'll get the best score. just study and ask ?'s and you'll do fine
He can be funny at times but overall I didnt understand ANYTHING from that course. To this day I cannot recall one thing I learned. Pretty bad. Last Resort.
Nice prof. Makes jokes and does best to keep your attention. Take notes. Read the book. Use the chp study guides in econlab; watch the recorded lectures and videos in D2L before exams. Helps a lot. Cares about students. Will explain things if you don't understand. Not easy material but doable if you work hard.
Brooks really cares. He finds time outside of class to help students. Prepare to talk back in lectures. He loves debating! Personally a great guy and educator. Reading truly helps.
Brooks is awesome and I will take any courses I can with him. His online Econ courses are well planned out and I learned a lot from his instruction. He uses Power Point presentations and videos to augment the text which helps tremendously. By using his digital material and MyEconLab I never opened the text and got an A in the class.HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Horrible teacher, wouldnot help with any questions. I am a 3.8 student and i recieved a D+ in this course. If you have him, Get Out.
Everything seems so easy when doing Powerpoint notes and doing homework on MyEcon lab but when you get the real daily quizes they are nothing like the practice, Test are timed and not evough time is given! No feedback on online quizes to study off of, horrible wouldnt recommened
I expected Survey of Economics to be a breeze, being that I am a student with a 4.0 GPA. Brooks' assignments and quizzes are misleading; the test is about ten times harder. On top of that, the class itself is unbearable. Every hour and twenty minutes is a struggle to listen to his useless power point lectures. This class is lacking in many areas.
Very helpful teacher! He works really hard to make sure you understand everything and gives many avenues of explanation (power points, practice problems, videos, practice quizzes)to make sure you understand everything.Very structured and organized for each week.
Brooke's is a great professor. Put in even a mediocre amount of effort in this class (very little of the students in it seemed to do this which I found sad) you will be rewarded a good grade. Very easy grading structure. GREAT NOTES. He's just a fun guy to be around and learn from. Don't listen to the nonbelievers! (IE the #1400 below mine)
Brooks is a great guy. He sometimes digresses, but he is helpful. When preparing for final exam, he and my class went to a room and together study for the test. Highly recommend.
I'm taking this online summer class and I've found out that Brooks is uniquely humorous and his lecture is really interesting and easy to understand. Be sure to read the textbook also, if you like to get the best grade.
Good Guy tries to remember everybody's name and will by the end of the semester and into next term the class isnt that bad but most of the time hard to pay attention but when you are drifting off he will call on you and say you are a farmer or pizza restaurant owner and use you in his examples for class
I was expecting to hate Econ, but Brooks totally changed my mind. He has a passion for his students and makes an effort to remember everybody's name. He makes lectures interesting with his strange and energetic personality. I attended every class, and I studied for 20 minutes before tests and got Bs, but the homework was easy (just open the book).
the class itself isnt very hard, however the way its taught does make it quite a challenge.he's a quirky guy who goes off topic a lot and a lot of the time his in class notes rent very helpful. i had to do alot of out of school notes, my advice would be do the my econ lab chapter reviews online, the are way more helpful then in class notes.
I took microeconomics with Brooks online. He is very structured with his assignments and expects everything to be turned in on time, no exceptions. So, he is very rigid about that, but he is a nice guy. I like the format of his class, so I will take his macroeconomics class next semester. I would recommend him.
The material is presented in a good manner… however I found Brooks to be a little out there…
He knows plenty about the subject, however he goes off of several tangents which makes the material more difficult to understand. He also seems to expect you to know that answers to his question "verbatim" even when just learning the material. The hw is nothing like the exams. I HIGHLY DO NOT SUGGEST THIS CLASS!!! GET OUT NOW! DROP THE CLASS NOW.
Brooks is a super nice guy and is helpful if you need the help. The bad thing is this class uses My EconLab by Pearson and the HW is not the same material on his tests to an extent. If he just thought it himself and gave his own HW assignments the class would be A LOT better.
Brooks is knowledgeable in his profession however when he is teaching, he is confusing at some points. His teaching is not the best. The homework is nothing like the quiz. I dont suggest this class with him as the professor to anyone.
NO. WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER TAKEN. He will also try to regulate your actions in class. (ex. if you are sending an email in class on your OWN laptop he will tell you to get off the site, even though it is not disturbing anyone)also he doesnt allow eating while he is teaching. how am i supposed to stay awake during your boring lectures?
honestly one of the worst teachers I have ever had. His tests are nothing like his homework or quizzes. He also words the tests in such a confusing way. I have never struggled with a class like I did with this one. He keeps the lights off all the time even though it's early in the morning which makes it nearly impossible to focus. AVOID THIS CLASS.
He could be a good instructor but I think he doesn't really want his students to get good grades. Uses MyEconLab for textbook, quizzes & homework but then administers his own exams that are confusing and inconsistent with MyEconLab. Exams are heavily weighted, so if you don't do so well on them, there is very little chance to bring your grade up.
This is my second time taking his class. Although his lectures are a little boring, he is very enthusiastic in teaching. He also has online lectures where you can watch and review for the exams. His tests are not hard if you put in the effort and review the materials..
He gets very off topic really easily. He talks way too fast and doesn't make sense most of the time. His tests didn't really match what he explained and taught in class. He is a good person but needs a lot of work to improve his teaching skills. He is very confusing
This guy is absolutely terrible. He thinks hes funny when hes not and isn't specific when assignments are due. Honestly if you have the option to take a different teacher go for it.
Professor Brooks is one of the best, if not the best professor I have taken at Normandale. He is by far the best economics professor. His class made me love Economics and want to be an Economics major. I took him in Spring of 2015 and he made me enjoy coming to class due to his teaching. I highly recommend you take this class with Professor Brooks.
Pay attention to lectures and take notes of graphs and you will be fine. Tests are not very hard if you understand the graphs. Don't be afraid to ask questions he is a genuinely nice guy. I would recommend taking id economics is new and you want not have to spend too much time learning it. Don't need the book, just do easy homework.
He's a meh teacher. He can be helpful if you just ask. You mostly learn from his long lectures. Before taking test, just run through the slides and review that and you should be fine for the test. Homework is pretty easy as well.
He provides a lot of resources to learn the material. He only lectures in class. Gets off topic easily. Very few in class assignments that don't count for anything, and same with the online homework. Quizzes and tests are the only things in the grade book. Normally the class averages for tests range from a C-D. Tests are very difficult.

Brooks is extremely helpful, his lectures are full of discussions, and he made me fall in love with economics and want to learn more! This is NOT an easy A class, but if you work hard, you will succeed. After taking his class, I feel prepared for the Business school. I appreciate everything he has done for me, and I honestly think he's THE BEST!!!!
Be prepared to study hard for the tests. He posts very helpful videos and always lets you know when the homework is due. Overall a very clear and organized course
super easy, but the four exams are pretty hard. week by week is sosos easy though. definitely take online, he sets up the class very nice and clear for the online class
I love taking Professor Herrboldt's online class. I find that MyEconLab is a great studying tool. I love the fact that you can quiz yourself as you go each sections of each chapters in the ebook. The class is easy as long as you utilize all the helpful studying tools. I would definitely recommend his class!
Brooks is a great teacher and the homework/grading expectations in his class were very clear. I would strongly recommend watching each of the lecture video clips (and taking notes) each week, this makes all of the homework and tests much easier. If you put the effort into this class it is definitely manageable to get an A.
Brooks was OK. Took the class online, I would HIGHLY recommend that rather than in person. Much easier. Would've been more helpful to have a physical text book. Passed the class with a C thats all that matters. Make sure you do the HW and quizzes on time and you will be fine
Takes the time to explain the material in a very clear and understandable way. A little quirky, but it makes him kind of funny.
He's a nice guy, but he isn't that great at teaching. I guess the class is alright, but it didn't make me enjoy economics like other professors have.
Took a hybrid class with a flipped classroom; we watched lecture videos outside of class and worked in class on examples. He's nitpicky about people talking while he's talking, but he's a good teacher and knows what he's talking about. He's very willing to answer questions. He's got a very strict syllabus, but if you follow it, you'll get an easy A
An easy class with Brooks! A homework assignment each week, and 4 scantron tests. He is excited to teach and sometimes tells random stories. If you miss class a lot you won't pass because he also teaches stuff thats not in the textbook.
Brooks is a great prof in Econ. He gives great feedback and responds quick through emails. He gives tons of reminders for due dates and has a clear expectation for his students. His video lectures could be a lot, but they're all very informative and easy to understand. Time management is key for this online class.
Seem like a nice enough guy but hes really uncomfortable in front of the camera and stutters makes me feel kind of bad for him and hard to watch/learn from. Otherwise decent class, get your weekly video questions done for some easy points. Would probably not take again, but hes a decent option if you need online macro.
A solid online class; lots of additional videos and narrated PowerPoint presentations to augment, or that could even supplant, reading the text. One irritation presents itself in that exams are only open Friday-Sunday instead of all week. If you need economics or a class for MNTC Goal 8, this is a good choice.
Really great professor. Clear assignments, tests that directly relate to the material in the homework, and lots of instructional videos and presentations that you can watch whenever you need them.
Videos helpful. Wont include homework into grades. 90% of grade calculated from four 100 point timed exams. Seems more focused on grading student ability to test well. No discussions, papers, or articles to implement real world application. Tests book knowledge. No interaction with students. Pre-recorded video slides for the semester. Disconnected
I took microecon online. He clearly outlines his expectations and has a clear syllabus, but his class is test-heavy. There are four 100-point tests, and since there are only 565 points in the class, doing well on those four tests is key. Homework isn't graded. I barely pulled out a B.
Loved every minute of Brooks, he got me inspired for economics, wish i could have him for every subject. He has clear assignments and is available for help if ever needed. He does power points in videos so you can go back and watch something if missed. 10/10 would recommend
Brooks is a stand up guy. He's wacky, but he's loving. Econ is hard, but there is so many online resources, that this class was a pretty easy A.
The material was given very straight forward, and if you watched the lectures, the quizzes and tests were easy A's. He provides many different lectures and study tools for each exam, and I felt well prepared going into each. There is also multiple scores that go into the gradebook.
Highly recommend taking this professor! The rubric is clear and easy to understand. The usual homework per week includes the homework assignment, quiz, and video questions. Everything is done all online and is through MyLab Pearson. You get 3x chances to take the quizzes and the best score is kept.
Grading is based on the work you put in, he lays out everything perfectly in the syllabus. 1 quiz a week worth 10 points that are easy to do if you watch the weekly powerpoint lectures, than every 4 weeks there is a exam worth 100 points. Also participation is mandatory if you want the A. He is a respectable professor who will help if you reach out
Took microeconomics online, he had hard deadlines, and did not drop any bad grades. no retakes or anything, and had ungraded homework and a quiz due every week. Not bad if you do the work
Prof Herrboldt made my online microeconomics class incredibly fun with his pre-recorded lectures. The class was very entertaining, and it was easy to reach out to him and ask questions about the material I struggled with. I was not doing too well in the class (not up to my own standards, not the worst grade) but I ended up doing well on the final.
Really easy to understand. Helped me with a high level tech problem over email and hit it spot on. Understanding and overall a very positive guy. Econ is easy but it depends more on the person, would take again.
Brooks was a very easy professor. Most of his coursework was online via Pearson, so attendance was up to you. But to make you attend class, he has daily questions throughout the semester each time you attend class as part of your grade. Overall easy course if you need the credit.
I'm taking his class online and I took Economics before with a different professor and failed miserably. The way he teaches his class makes it very easy to understand because he goes over it again and again to ensure you really understand it. He also uses a lot of examples and is very thorough with his teaching.
He is very good at his lectures, and is very thorough with it to really make sure you understand it. Would def take again!! I am taking Econ 2201 asynchronously.
3 things due every week: 1 ungraded homework assignment, 1 graded quiz, and 1 graded video question. Everything can be learned either through the textbook or through his detailed lectures and videos, you choose. He drops your 4 lowest quiz grades, but 4 exams (100 pts each) take up about 60% of your grade. Do the work and you'll be fine.
Watching the lectures and reading the textbook helps, but he goes over everything. He is also really detailed in his lectures. Amazing class in general!
Professor Herrboldt's class is well-structured with engaging lectures, whether online or in-person. The workload is manageable, and Unstuckstudy can be a helpful study tool alongside the textbook and resources. An enjoyable class overall.
Overall a pretty good teacher! The whole class is graded through mostly tests and quizzes. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there is a classroom problem every day which counts for 3 points, so don't miss out on those easy points.
He was a great teacher it was just the fact that his grading on the Exams were hard to pass. He gives you all the information to pass you just need to do the work. Assignments and quizzez are easy it's just the exams that are graded differently and harder to pass.
