Knows what he's talking about. Really enjoyed research methods course with him.
Great teacher, available for meeting with students, very intelligent in his field, easy to listen to, I highly recommend his classes!
He has a Mid and a Final and that's it.Tests are way too hard. I got a D- on my final and he wouldn't even return my email to tell me what the % was. Wandering lectures.
i would recommend this teacher. he is great, although talks a lot and drags the subject on, his test are VERY easy there is nothing on them that is not covered either in class or the book.
Real easy, don't have to show up. Shows a lot of movies. Real laid back. Read the book and you're fine. Notes cover book.
EASY CLASS
the class is tough but if you attend, take notes and study its all good. professor is okay.
As long as you go to his class and take notes, it's really easy, not to mention interesting. His tests mainly consist of his lectures.
DO NOT miss class, not even once. I went to this class **** a few times, but still took notes. As long as you have the notes, you'll do okay. Gives good reviews, nice guy, has 80's cop haircut. Overall, good teacher.
He's a cool teacher. The way he talks is weird, but you'll learn to adjust to it.
Very easy class, just get the notes and skim the chapters and you'll be fine
Class material is horrible, but Arneklev is a good guy. He does his best to help everyone in the class, and most get outta there with a B or better. Required class for CJ majors, and I wouldnt trust anyone else as my teacher for this boring class.
Good professor. Talks a little fast. Never read the book just studied the notes and get A's. Gives extra credit on test and adds pts to curve the grade. Good guy. Easy A
Very easy! Don't miss a day of class, test are based on lectures, don't need to by a book, you will get nothing lower than a B
great teacher. goes over everything that's on the test. book is good for highlighting instead of writing everything because he goes over a lot of material. interesting movies. strongly recommend
THIS IS THE BEST TEACHER IN FAU PERIOD! Everything he says in class and on the notes is on the test. No tricks or anything. Just take notes. Don't miss a day of class. Great class. Must take this class.
GREAT TEACHER, BUT WORD TO THE WISE,* PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS OR RECORD LECTURES*. HE GOES SUPER FAST. GIVES MID-TERM AND FINAL ONLY, NO PAPER DURING *SUMMER*,GIVES GREAT CURVES ON EXAMS. JUST GO TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES, YOU SHOULD PASS W/ NO LESS THAN A "B"
In reference to the rating about not taking this class because he is a **** is utterly ridiculous. I am black & I took his class in the Summer and made an A. It is all about applying yourself. As I mention in my rating on 8/04/06 This is a hard class & the only way to pass is to either tape the lectures or write good notes, but mostly study!!
i like his class
HEs a cool teacher, youll get a few laughs here and there but u gotta take notes thats the main thing. I liked the class, the exams were fair to me and he gave out oppurtunity for extra points.
hes a good teacher. you must go to class and take good notes. all of his tests are straight from the lectures and he always gives extra credit on the tests
This is a great class to take. Always go to class, and take good notes. You're guaranteed at least a B if you do this. He made the class interesting, which was also very helpful. Good luck!
this class is really good and interesting. prof. is really good and straight forward. if you go to class and take the notes, you will do just fine. :)
Prof. Arnekelev is a very hard teacher. His exams are awful, and he only has 2 exams and an extra credit assignment that is a paper that he only gives 5 points towards the final grade and it is extremely long and hard. I got an F in his class and retook this class with Prof. Hinduja in Jupiter and got a B. Consider yourself warned, take someone els
Very good teacher. interesting discussions n videos! not difficult if attend n take good notes...exams not hard
This is by far the hardest class I have taken at FAU. You must attend class everyday and take detailed notes. The first test was hard and then the second test wasn't as bad. I got an A, but like I said, go to class everyday and take good notes.
Easy class...if you take notes study them well you'll do well on the tests...they come straight from the notes...
In tie for the best professor I've had
so easy! Gives handouts and shows power point outlines during class. Tests exactly from lectures. I got an A in the class and didn't open the book once! Shows movies very often.
If u take good notes its an easy class. he basicaly spoon feeds you the exam. This is a pllus because it's the most feared class in ccj.
One of few teachers whose lectures are EXACTLY what you will see on the test. Take notes and dont skip class unless you have a friend willing to do that for you. I didnt read the book once. Good teacher to take whether you want to learn or just get an A. Any one who does bad in his class, skipped or took poor notes.
Great class, recommend to all freshman, or 2nd year students. Easy A, interesting notes, movies, just attend class take notes, exams are clear reflection of notes. Interesting teacher, curves tests, and gives x-tra credit on exams. Can't lose by taking this class!
Great class! professor is very to the point and clear with his notes..all you really need to do is take notes look over them and the tests would be easy..you don't open the textbook at all. we watch interesting movies and he gives a lot of extra credit and a good 5-10 pt curve on EVERY test. Class is interesting and easy. just show up and take note
This class is not that bad i just cannot stand the way Arneklev organizes himself with his 3 sets of notes including an outline/handout, notes written on the board, and notes on the projector. Tests are hard, attendence is not mandatory, thank god. Class is boring.
He?s a good teacher, tries to be interesting but since he has several classes he may repeat points. Curves all test but they are pretty easy W/ extra credit points at the end. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK and come to all classes, the notes are all you need.
Great professor!!! Took him for Methods of Research over the summer. Intense class but with his notes and clarity of the material to cover for the exam very pleasant. No surprises just study notes! He is willing to help when needed. His curves and his extra questions on the exam really make you feel like he cares about students.
DONT TAKE HIM FOR METHODS OF RESEARCH. TAKE WALTERS, OR PRICE. TRUST ME, MUCH MUCH EASIER TIME. MAKES CLASS HARDER THAN IT SHOULD BE.
Easy A but class can get boring at times. Attendance is not mandatory but i suggest it because his notes are not posted on blackboard. He doesn't use the textbook but it is good reference. 3 exams and a final which is not cumulative, EC questions && curves on tests.
This was truly the only college course i have enjoyed! I loved it! if you just study the notes a little you will get an A because the test questions come straight from the notes. he makes class interesting by telling personal stories that are related to what we are learning. i highly recomend him!!!
Impressive because he really knows the subject matter, but at the same time makes it harder than it really is. You really have to go to class and pay attention. Only midterm and final with one extra credit.
Methods. Like he tells you in the beginning..."Don't freak out" Stick with it. Go to EVERY class. He will drill it into your head. It all comes together like a puzzle. He's passionate with the topic. DO the Extra Credit. Review your notes and LISTEN to everything he says. He goes over everything several times to clerify things.
VERY confusing - he sounds like there is peanut butter in his mouth most the time - He writes on the white board while using the overhead and the projection thingie all at the same time and makes stuff way tougher than it needs to be! He also talks to the class like we are in children at story time and english is our second language
Just go to class, try ur best , study his notes well, and u should pass with a good grade .
Law,crime, Cj system is a good class. He gives you all the stuff you need to know but you can't miss class or doze off during class or you will not do well
Great teacher! He's funny without meaning to be. Definitely keeps the subject interesting as the class is always full. Shows awesome videos, loves teaching, and is helpful. Just make sure to take good notes and study - he can get you on some of the tests!
Go to EVERY class. He will drill it into your head. It all comes together like a puzzle. He's super passionate . DO the Extra Credit, i would have failed without it. Review your notes and LISTEN to everything he says. He goes over everything several times to clerify things. Very friendly and helpful. nice guy.
Great professor! Personable, tells a bunch of stories to keep your attention and that relates to the topics at hand. Don't really need the textbook at all unless you want to look up a couple of things that didn't make sense during the lecture or some vocab you're unsure of. Other than that, he mainly provides you with handouts to write notes on.
This teacher is awesome. He is very passionate about what heis teaching. he makes criminal justice interesting and fun to learn about. he makes jokes and we watched a movies. just study for tests if ou even think you need to and you will be ok. i would definetely take other clsses with him
Dr. Arneklev is one of the best professors I've had so far. He is so passionate about the material. He makes class interesting and fun. There are several movies you watch in class as well. He advises you about the exams way ahead of time and stars things in the notes to make sure you study. Helpful beyond belief, he is very vey good. Take this clas
Methods of Research is one of the hardest classes in the CCJ major but Arneklev is the best professor to take it with. Class is boring and he doesn't take attendance, if you don't go you won't pass. Grade is based on mid term and final but he offers an extra credit project. Don't buy the book, just go to class & write down EVERYTHING & study hard.
ARNEKLEV IS HILLARIOUS! HE TRIES SO HARD TO BE FUNNY BUT ITS MOSTLY UNSUCCESSFUL. HES REALLY EASY JUST GO TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES NEVER USED THE TEXTBOOK ONCE DONT EVEN BUY IT TESTS ARE DIRECT FROM LECTURE!EXTRA CREDIT QUESTIONS ON EVERY EXAM NOT TO MENTION CURVES OUT THE A**.HE TALKS SO FAST SO PREPARE FOR WRITERS CRAMPS BUT ITS WORTH THE EASY A!!
Very hard material but if you go to class and study the notes, especially the ones he writes on the board you will be fine !
Awesome teacher. Homework is to mainly study the notes you take in class. Attendance is mandatory if you want to succeed in this class because every test is based on his lectures. He provides curves. No surprise quizzes. Interesting lectures! I love him and his class! Textbook is used but he uses it. It's a good book to keep for future reference.
The material of the class is hard but he makes it harder than what it is. He goes too fast and he doesn't explain the material that well. Try to avoid him. His the hardest professor in Criminal Justice.
This class is very easy IF YOU GO TO CLASS AND LISTEN TO HIS LECTURES!! I decided I was too cool to go to his class and I ended up failing almost every exam even after studying the chapters on my own. I received an F but I know if I would have gone to class I would have had an A. GO TO CLASS!!
I don't know what everyone is complaining about. As long as you attend his class and follow the material he is covering, you will pass the class! He doesn't sugar coat any of the material, but he doesn't just give you the answers to the exams either. Show up, take good notes, you pass. Plain and simple.
I absolutely loved him!! He gave great notes, extremely passionate and has an extensive background in the criminal justice field. I would recommend taking this course and him as a professor. I will definitely be taking other courses he teaches!
I loved him! He's such a nice guy. He gives you a daily handout with a basic structure of the notes for that day, but make sure you do attend class and take notes on his lectures. He moves kinda fast, but if you pay attention you will learn the material.
Research Methods is extremely difficult to understand without reviewing the notes everyday, night and day!!! He goes extremely fast the exams are fair only if you study everything!! you will fail if you don't attend class, attendance mandatory!! very few people pass the course, but I was one of the lucky ones. Best to take the class in the Summer.
He is basically the man. Gives you a handout everyday with the outline of the topics for the day. You just have to fill in the blanks. Tells you exactly what to study for the exams, and puts everything into easy terms. You can tell he really enjoys what he does!
Hes actually really good teacher. His test are a little hard. They are mostly based off scenarios to make sure you understand what your learning. He does curve each test by 8-12% Based on the class grades. You MUST attend class. Learn the review, and understand each topic. His test are like For example A)Car B) Dog C) Cat D)both a & b E) all/none
Had him for CCJ 2002, awesome class. Took him for CCJ 4700 two years later... terrible. He is a different teacher for 4700, very hard to understand, goes over material way to quickly. He was very willing to help though. got a B+ in 2002, got a D+ in 4700
Dr. Arneklev is one of the best professors FAU's CCJ department has to offer. He does talk fast but will explain everything. He is more than willing to help his students. He really knows his stuff! I never once used the text book and got A's. Go to class and study your notes! If you are a serious student you will love his teaching abilities. TAKE!!
Awesome Professor, easiest class, so long as you show up and take notes! No classwork or homework, a few exams that are straight forward and that's it! Study your notes and you'll do fine. Answers are always said aloud or in the notes, so just write it down.
Great professor. Class is really easy as long as you go and take notes. Tells you what to study for the exams and he curves all of the exams. It's hard to fail as long as you study.
Dr. Arneklev is great! I was very nervous for Methods of Research, but it actually wasn't too difficult and I wouldn't have been able to pass without this professor. I love his style of teaching, and his exams are very fair. Meaning, you have to know and understand the material, but it's not impossible. He also offers an extra credit assignment.
This was my favorite class of the semester. He is a really nice guy. His lecture is very organized, making it easy to take notes and follow the course. Go to class if you want to do well on the exams. Duh! Grade is based on 4 exams. Always there to answer questions. One of my favorite professors ever!
BEST PROFESSOR! He makes the class so interesting and shows the best videos. The test aren't too bad if you attend class and take the notes. He provides a handout of the outline of the notes online and in class. I'm definitely taking another class with this professor!
I took this class in summer13, which was a 6 week course. I walked in intimidated with the course name itself, but honestly it's a difficult course if you do not study the material daily, and ask questions. Prof Arneklev is a great teacher he loves what he does and is willing to answer questions. I must warn you he does teach fast but you can do it
He is an awesome professor. I had him at 8am and was ezcited to go to his class. He had so much energy that i fed off of it. For law, crime, and crim., i had learned alot. If you go to class and take notes on everything he says, you will get an A. Study for the tests and you will get an A. Don't try to study the night before cause it won't work.
he was a very confusing teacher, he talked really fast...he did give notes but the material was still really confusing, l would ask him questions and he would talk in circles... never will take him again.
was the most confusing professor l ever had he talked way to fast.
Good thing he only teaches one course, I'd never want to snore through another one of his monotonous droning on and on and on.
boring. never answers questions, once his thoughts are on a path, he can't go off. it actually became a game in class to ask questions that he ignored and kept going and going and going
worse teacher Ive had. I can read the book, and im not as monotonous.
useleess waste of time. I can read the book myself.
Confusing and condescending.
Pretty awful class. I know this subject wasn't suppose to be easy but this Professor made it even more difficult. Don't bother buying the text book, you will never use it. Attendance is not mandatory but you will want to show up to class with the handouts from Blackboard and take notes. Midterm 50%/Final50%. Take with a diff. Professor if you can.
Dr. Arneklev is an expert in the subject, and although he might deliver his lectures at a million words per second, he's been teaching this course for a long time and has perfected the notes he gives to students, which are everything needed to pass the exams. Its tough, but he is the best professor to take this course with. Not impossible!
The subject itself is very boring and confusing, but he goes over and over the same material until everyone gets it. There are only 2 tests in this class, as long as you go to class and take notes, you'll pass. His tests come directly from the notes (no need to buy the book).
It is said to be the most difficult course of the degree, thats why so many people hold off to take it until the end; best thing is to get it done early in order to be able to retake it incase. it wasnt as difficult as they make it seem. The professor provides you with everyhting you need! make sure u print out all the work &take notes
Listen, this is college and Methods is a tough course, but Dr. A. makes it as easy as possible. Don't go in if you don't plan on doing your share. Its a very do able course and he makes everything as clear as day. I would take him again. Attendance isn't stress, but why would missed a day in this course?! A day is a lot in Methods.
Dr. A is an amazing, & helpful professor. The class is TOUGH. You have to meet him halfway. He gives A LOT of extra credit, but you still need to STUDY. Do as he says: binder, take LOTS OF NOTES, re-do your notes, MEMORIZE your notes. You might feel completely lost, but once you starts studying everything comes together.
Methods class is tough. He breaks it down to make it easier but he over explains things & talks A LOT so it actually might confuse you even more. You might have to skip through some of the lecture to avoid hearing him explain pointless things when he's trying to get to the point. He means well but it's just excessive to the point of annoyance.
He covers a lot of material in class, if you're looking for a easy class don't take him. only 2 test
Talks very fast and talks for the entire period of the class. His lectures are very long and boring. Only 2 test but you have to read a lot of material to understand what is going on. I wouldn't recommended since specially if you don't like to read a lot
First of ALL, you need to keep in mind that this is a VERY HARD Course.. so do not expect an easy walk in the park. you have to study, read the notes from all his units and you will be fine. Dr. Arneklev was a very professional and always willing to explain students out. 1 MID &1Final and that's it no HW, No essay, NO Blogs etc. only 2 test.
This teacher may talk super fast, have crazy confusing notes, not give many tests, but, he really does care about his students and their success. If you show him that are are trying he will help you out immensely. Keep up good communication with him.
I was told by my advisor that this would be the toughest undergraduate class I would take. I was prepared to work & there was a LOT of studying. However, Dr. A was very clear about the work load for this class and was very helpful if needed. I would recommend this class as an online one because you can go back and review lectures as needed.
Tests are hard and very specific. Gives 8 quizzes w/ answers as extra credit. Best practice is to read and study lecture notes. Study hard! If you are not a fast learner do not take this class online during the summer.
YOU WOULD BE A FOOL NOT TO TAKE HIM FOR METHODS!!!He gives Power points, forget the PP, he makes videos!!!! He is THE BEST!!! TEST ARE EXTREMELY EASY!! Yes, HIS TEST!!! He has an online video session so that students can ask questions before taking the exams! I took him this summer, if I wasn't taken other classes, I would I have gotten an A easily
So many were critical of Dr. A, but he is so helpful and caring. Yes the class was hard, but then again we are in graduate school. I did just fine in the class, and am proud to say that earned, was not handed a good grade.
Class is very difficult. If I could do it again I would not take it online. Tests are very hard, I got a B stats but did not do well here. It says book is not necessary yet there are questions on the test from it. Tests are hard, not like his reviews, he makes them very complicated. Video lectures are hard to follow and disorganized.
I took Dr. Arneklev for Methods of Research, full online class. This being a Stats class, I knew it was not going to be easy online. 2 tests, one midterm one final. few quizzes. But most of your grade is from the tests. He curved both tests 12 points in my class. It was not an easy A class. I worked very hard. Flash cards really helped.
If you're interested in taking methods online then TAKE Dr. Arneklev. I scored a 96 on the first exam and a 94 on the second. He gives you all the material you need to pass with his notes. You need to read and watch all of lectures. He will ask you questions on everything you have learned. He is the best teacher for methods!
Plain and simple; METHODS is a HARD class for anyone majoring in CJ!!!! Exams are HARD, must watch ALL lecture video about 20 times to fully understand what is going on, I passed this course because of studying, so be prepared to STUDY!!! Exams are curved at the end, so if you do really badly the curve won't help, if you do decent your ok.
IF YOU VALUE YOUR GPA AND GRADES, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! HE MAKES IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO PASS. HARD FOR NO REASON.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!!!!!!!! He gives you about 12 quizzes all worth 1% each and 2 exams each worth 40%. You must watch multiple 40min videos to understand whats going on and read tons of papers. Once you fail one exam you have failed the entire class. If you want to pass this class take it in class with a different professor.
Horrible teacher. Uses Lockdown browser w/ webcam (never had in all my time at FAU), mandatory exams on a Tuesday (& this is an online class for people that actually have day jobs). Only 2 exams, 44% each. Lots of lectures & notes, only for him to ill-prepare you for the class -- & I studied. Failed 1 exam, so I dropped the class. DO NOT TAKE!
Methods of research with him was an absolute nightmare. His tests are confusing and weighted unfairly. They have to be taken with a webcam(never have had too at FAU) and super difficult. I would HIGHLY recommend looking to other professors for this class because he makes everything difficult. I would give him a zero if I could.
HARD CLASS. Lectures are long and very specific. You won't pass if you don't listen to every lecture, take notes, and study. You can tell he cares for his students though, he is very understanding and patient. Quickly responds to emails and is very personable. If you are willing to put in the work, you won't be disappointed.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN. You can only pass this class (so he says) if you watch these long, boring, video lectures that you can barely make out what he's talking about. He's easily offended, if I had another choice to take another online professor I would. your exams are weighted 44% of your grade, and the exams are on respondus. LISTEN TO ME plz.
Dr. Arneklev was not as bad as people say. To pass the class, you DO have to listen to his lectures, ALL of them. He explains the material very well, and puts a star on important information that might be on the exams, which are curved. It's a lot of material to cover, especially in a short summer course, but overall he's a good professor.
Worst professor Ive ever had at FAU. Tough grader. Only two exams, never ending homework that means nothing, the most boring lectures ever, and his study guides dont have ANYTHING thats on the actual test, so you waste your time studying things he doesnt even ask about. I dropped the class. I refuse to mess up my 3.8 GPA. Dont take him!!!
HE MAKES YOU TAKE THE TESTS WITH A WEBCAM FILMING YOU! Never had a professor do that before at FAU. How creepy is that? Only 2 tests, each make up 44% of your grade. He literally makes it impossible to pass, & hes really not as nice as everyone says. When I told him I was dropping the class, he didnt even respond to me. Find another teacher.
The class itself is pretty hard, lots of material and stuff to memorize. However, you can tell that it's in the proffesors best interest for you to pass the class so he'll try to help with the grades. There's weekly quizzes (these are worth only like 5% of final grade), a midterm and final. You just have to keep up with the class and materials.
His personality is actually ok, he's approachable. There are no research papers however there are weekly quizzes which are fairly easy worth 12% of your grade & consist of 2 exams which is extremely hard to pass, each 44% of your grade. I was so overwhelmed with lecture videos it's alot. He also uses Webcam & u can't go back to questions. I failed
This is by far the hardest class I took at FAU. He has you install lockdown browser with camera. You cant go back on the test questions. You get 12 easy quizzes worth 1 point and two exams worth 44% each of your grade. The lectures can be too much at times. If you dont catch on youll be lost. The professor cares about the class. Im glad I pass
2-3 hour lecture videos every week that you MUST watch to pass the class. Quizzes every week worth only 12% of your grade and 2 proctored exams that are worth 88% of the grade. Basically, if you don't watch the lectures and take notes, you won't pass the exams, then you fail the whole class. I have to retake the class now. DON'T TAKE THE RISK!
I personally thought it wasn't the material that was hard itself, but the long lectures you had to watch every week. But if you did not understand the material, he had review lectures before each exam. My advice is before exams (88% of grade) is to go over all your lecture notes and recitations. Tests are just throwing up info, not retaining long.
It is in the professor's best interest for students to pass his class. He sends weekly reminders to please submit weekly quizzes and very understanding. The class overall is hard, but his lectures and notes are on point!
Honestly this class was very hard. I got 100% on all the quizzes and it did almost noting to affect my grade, the tests are 88% of your grade and they are HARD!!!! He does curve them if needed but it's not worth it. Nice guy but lectures the entire time for nothing. No assignments, just hard tests that ARE proctored, camera and everything.
This course is not tough, but VERYYY time consuming. I do not recommend to take unless you have free time as lectures are nearly 1-4 hours weekly, although separated. Professor is very generous with grades as he understand the course is difficult and we're all struggling.
This subject is hard itself. There is two exams which is the midterm and final. I did take this class in the summer (6 weeks) so you had to make sure to be on top of all the quizzes and watch his lectures. He is very considerate when it comes to his grading he gives curves and extra credit. Hes caring and willing to help you pass!
There are quizzes and only 2 exams that make up the majority of your grade. His criteria for grading it unusual compared to other classes. So the grade on canvas does match how he grades. It is not an easy course, just need to study a lot. He does curve your exam grade and you have extra credit questions in the exam. He gives updates as well.
Professor is very thorough and detailed. You will need a big binder and printer. You will print out the assignment and follow along to a prerecorded lecture. DO NOT take this course if you cannot be organized and dedicate time to study. Professor does a great job preparing for exams but the courseload is a lot. STUDY for the exams
Every lesson or anything this professor needs to say he turns everything into a long essay. It's crazy how every explanation is so drawn out, it makes the course extremely exhausting.
I don't know if i just got lucky but I bombed the first test and buckled down hard for the second test. STUDY THE NOTES YOU TAKE FOR THE COURSE AND THE NOTES THE PROFESSOR GIVES!!!! get 100% on all the quizzes there is no reason to get less than 100% doing the quizzes helped retain the information. GREAT CLASS.
Don't take this professor!
Be prepared to teach yourself the entire semester.
