Great teacher. Very intelligent!!

Makes sense of Philosophy and always gets a laugh
He's the number one!
Too hard and confusing. Hard marker
Good method of course layout. Good course.
Got an uninterested person very interested.
Hands back assignments promptly. Classes interesting, makes phil enjoyable.
hey Bruce, show me your riffs!!
What the hell Bruce, don't get mad at me 'cause your class sucks a donkey dry.
He makes the class really interesting and amusing... hands back assignments really fast with a ton of feedback. Awesome teacher.
Returns assignments very quickly.
Pretty good teacher, a little odd.

a typical gentleman, but a bit mean. well-prepared exams but tricky, you gotta watch out for every words, never have MC questions, a student killer!
You can see him thinking. Constantly. The type of person who you really believe when he says he'd rather read than watch a movie. The best prof in the phil dept, too.
He can be quite humorous. His class is not boring.
Obviously loves his field. He will cut you down if you dont have a good argument, so its probably better to think really thoroughly before speaking. Takes a relatively dry and complicated process and subject and makes it funny and interesting.
He's great! So helpfull. He interacts with the students and applies the material to our lives. Definitely one of my favourite teachers. Take his class if you can
i hated it i didnt understand anything. class is boring and way behind. Marks essays rough expects a perfect philosophical paper...Sorry for not ever taking any other phil..classes and not being philosophical enough!!
Anybody who likes Clapton as much as this man can't be a bad person.
More fun than a barrel of monkeys. B-Baugh is a philosopher king!
Bruce is a great teacher, although he expects a lot from essays at times. Seems to be a bit of an inconsistant marker. Overall a first rate instructor.
I loved this class. I took the second part of it to be in his class (but the prof changed :( ) He feels A's are reserved for the best but it doesn't mean everyone gets terrible marks. He was interesting and incredibly knowledgable about everything! I heart him.
this guy is awesome..I had no clue what he was talking about half the time and I still passed with a good mark :)Too much review..so you can skip his class and not miss a thing..
I did not enjoy this class. Philosophy is not for people who need evidence and facts. Seemed to abstract and vague for me!
I heart Bruce too. Awesome teacher! Everything a Philosophy Prof should be. Funny, smart, a dry sense of humour. It is true though, that before you try to argue with him, make sure you have the facts. He expects alot, but if you do the work it is really quite simple.
I wish he wasn't teaching so few classes. Thoroughly enjoyed learning from him. His sense of humour is the best, and he knows everything about his subject. Do the work, ask questions, write a clear paper, and everything will be fine. Plus he loves Clapton and Hendrix.
Bruce is great! He makes the topics really interesting and gets the entire class active in discussions. I didn't want to miss a class I enjoyed it so much! He loves what he does and he's really easy to talk to. He respects everyone's opinions and if you attend class, it's easy to do well in!
I disliked this guy soo much, he was not positive and a total prick
Anyone who needs evidence and facts will not enjoy this class. Hard marker to those who dont voice opinions in seminars.
If you don't ask questions, he'll mark you in such a way that your GPA will plummet. In addition, he tends to favour those people that can spurt off some verbal diarrhea about something irrelevant and apparently it doesn't matter if you attend class or not if you're one of the creative souls that can quickly make up BS in class that sounds okay.
Sure, he's not an easy marker, but he's fair-- no pets, no enemies. It's amazing how much stuff he knows. People who want "facts" should take science, not philosophy! The ideas in this course are really interesting, and he explains them really well.
He does not favor bs-ers-- maybe that's why they've dropped out. He makes difficult ideas easy to understand (almost). Lots of comments on essays.
He lets you do creative assignments in this one (philosophy of art). Very supportive.
Very good at making complex ideas clear and simple. Encourages and rewards participation, but makes it easy to participate. Good sense of humor. Marks very fair. Somewhat scatterbrained.
A lot of unecessary assignments.
great prof! trustful person!
Sometimes did not explain properly. Sometimes confusing. Boring, no interaction with the class.
The best teacher I've ever come across, can't possibly see there being a better one. Extremely helpful and engaging, makes philosophy very interesting. Oh and he's really really nice.
Bruce is the best prof I've ever had. His lectures are the highlight of the week, even at 8am. He can be tough, but it brings out the best in you.
This guy was okay. He seems like a nice guy, who is knowledgeable about his stuff, but he talks super quietly and its hard to hear him. I find myself frequently confused about what he wants us to read/do now as opposed to later. He seems average/okay. Nice guy, not mean or anything.
I seriously love this man. He is amazing.
yaaa bruce!! phil of rock music was a great class, Bruce is smart, organized, clear and helpful! a great prof!!
Bruce kills it. Watch out if you think you're clever because he will shut you down if you don't know what you're talking about. Awesome prof though- brilliant writer and closet rocker. Think I even saw him at a RHCP show.
Awesome, clear, concise, one of my all time favourite teachers! if you are interested in philosophy, take one of Bruce's classes. This guy rocks!
On at least four occasions has spouted completely incorrect information about the sciences. On at least two occasions has been more than five minutes late for class or seminar. Simply misinformed and undereducated about science, but disregards his ethical responsibility to teach correct information to those who do not know better.
I highly recommend having Bruce as a professor. He is wonderful- fair, approachable funny, intelligent and clear. He is very modest and down to earth (no ego trips here!)
Have had him as a prof for alot of my Phil. classes the last three years. All I can say is the negitive comments on here are obviously from people who have a hard time with Philosophy since Bruce is excellent in lectures, encouraging in seminars, and fair when marking essays.
Okay, to the person who says that Bruce is not informed...whaaa? The guy is one of the smartest, most published, well read profs at TRU. He is fair and concise. The first day of class he gives out a reading list, topics for essays and due dates. What is so hard to get?
Phil. of Rock Music. One of the best classes I've ever taken. And not just because we listened to music in class. Bruce is so clear and he has a passion for all things Philosophy (and music) and that's clear in every conversation you have with him in and outside of class. He's not easy and you have to do the work - which should be obvious.
Bruce is great, I had two classes with him and in each I learned a lot about the subject matter.
Not the greatest philosopher. Good at spewing out facts he has heard over and over again, but he doesn't seem to support any further thought development. As a teacher: terrible monotonous, but not terrible at explaining. He's never funny either, which is kinda' lame. He's just super mediocre. Still not a philosopher--more like an English teacher.
A little acqueous sometimes in his explanations, doesn't seem particularily passionate about first year material or questions. Show us some passion! We want it Professor Baugh, I like him overall, but wish he would watch the gendered language and include more study of female philosophers in the cirriculum.
Waste of time. The class was extremely boring, he taught as if everyone was idiots. He just spurted facts, in a phil course. He facts were often wrong or inaccurate about history or the philosopher. I lost ten percent ( he takes attendance) because I didn't attend class because I could not stand people's stupid, pointless, and irrelevant comments.
Professor Baugh is wonderfully literate, and very passionate about some Philosophies and not others, aren't we all. He is a fair man, just, and works hard. I would like to see him include more female Philosophers, feminist critique of the bible, every other critique is given...overall excellent and very fair.
Such a good prof - very interesting and intelligent. I would love to have him again!
Assignments were very vague, and marking is too hard for a course that many attend as an elective. He is pretty reasonable if you need help but his courses are more suited to serious phil students as the strongly opinionated seem to do best. He can be entertaining but if you are the type of person who tries very hard your grade may disappoint you.
I have been reading some of the comments, and I have to giggle - especially the person who never attended classes yet is pretty sure he/she knows more than Baugh. Baugh is the brightest and possibly the most published professor at TRU. Anyone interested in Philosophy would do well to take a class or two of his.
Baugh is awesome. He's a great lecturer, very clear and distinct and clearly has a passion for what he does. He's always cheery and willing to help and answer questions. I'd definitely recommend taking his class - In fact, i'm disappointed that I wont have him for my philosophy class next semester. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!
Bruce is a wicked guy. He's a great professor and someone you can bounce ideas off of without feeling useless. Super helpful when asked and very approachable. A tough marker but he recognizes effort and appreciates original ideas. If the course is tough it's because it's a tough course, NOT because he can't teach it. It's philosophy, suck it up.
This guy is golden. I noticed a few people saying he was too tough a marker, but that's not entirely the truth. If you generally get good grades because you're a critical thinker, you'll do fine. If you get good grades because you've mastered how to memorize facts, you might not do as well. If you get bad grades then just stay home.
I've actually taken a few courses with Bruce; he's one of my favourite profs at TRU. Though he takes attendance, he isn't super strict on it. If you work hard, you'll be rewarded. He also looks for opportunities to mark students generously. Since Philo is my Minor, I specifically pick his classes because he knows his stuff and he's super friendly.
Great guy, not too clear on assignments. As long as you talk to him to clarify you'll do good. Uses text A LOT. Which is nice because he doesn't put in any surprise material.
this class was an absolute joke. three hours a week of watching him spit out word for word his power points. his essays questions were opinion based, but he marked based on and argumentative paper. his feed back in class to everyone who at any point spoke up was negative. it was and all around bad experience.
Bruce is super helpful if you ask for it. He's a little fuzzy on the guidelines for assignments but if you ask he explains it more. Class was sometimes really boring but some material has to be covered regardless. I found him enthusiastic and well informed.
Bruce's lectures are very funny and interesting; you can tell he's interested in his subject! He gives good feedback on essays, and is always available if you have questions regarding class content or assignments. He's a very personable guy and I always make sure to say hi when I see him outside of class!
Great professor, but his class was somewhat disappointing since almost all of his lectures were taken up by student presentations, meaning you barely learn anything in the classroom. If he got rid of the presentations and focused 100% on lectures then this would be one of the best classes at TRU.
Bruce is phenomenal for philosophy students. With great lectures and very interesting readings, you are able to learn and engage heavily. He cares very much about his students. His huge knowledge base and extensive feedback can assist anybody with an interest in philosophy to go further. You do need to be interested and critical, or don't bother.
Bruce is a great prof. Classes are engaging and interesting, but if you're not genuinely interested in Philosophy, pick a different prof. He expects you to read ALOT and be a critical thinker. His classes are very philosophically thick, but if you like Philosophy and are up to the challenge, his classes are like no other!
Bruce is an wonderfully brilliant man and scholar. He is a true philosopher. His lectures were so goodI will never forget what I learned in his class. The feedback he gives on papers exceeds expectations. To top it all off, the man knows how to party! I wish I could take all of his classes!
So took this course for a GPA booster... ended up bringing it down due to the way he grades. I'm not sure what his problem was but failed an essay because (&I quote) "should have been in class". He posts slides he uses in class, and give a textbook pages... Cuts students off mid class discussion and hard to get explanations from outside of class.
This was the first philosophy class. I was really nervous going into it, as philosophy tends to be very subjective. Despite this, Bruce did an incredible job simplifying complex ideas and making them relatable. His lectures are clarifications of material you should have already read I will be taking him again next semester, and any chance I get!
Had 2 essays 3-4 pages each. For the final exam he give you the questions that are going to be on it a few weeks before hand so that you can study. Overall amazing prof and a pretty easy class. He is a tough grader on the essays but makes up for it on the easy final.
Dr. Baugh offers a lot of clear feedback on assignments and his lectures are very well structured, expanding on what's presented in the readings. He very clearly loves Philosophy and was overall and excellent professor to have. His grading wasn't too strict and his thorough feedback aids in improvement. I highly recommend him.
Bruce kept his lectures interesting and he thoroughly explained the reading material. His feedback on essays was clear: for every student he typed out a feedback sheet where he pointed out improvements that could be made. For the final, he gave all of the questions in advance. You must work to get a good grade but the class is worth taking.
