Great teacher!
Very Hard. Did not do much teaching. Talked about unrelated topics. Won't let class out early.
Excellent teacher
Great teacher!
Smart,funny,good lecturer.
He means well but he is not clear when he teaches. But out of all the Accounting teachers here he is the one I would take.
Good teacher for tax, very understandable, gives extra points for all tests, Very fun sometimes funny, Only Bad things is he goes on tangents
Seems to know tax law. Not very good with examples. Gets off track easily.
He is the best teacher in the department. Gets off track easily. Has a reputation of pulling grades out of his arse. Thought I would get an A, ended up with a C. Sometimes steals your pencil during break. Just kidding.
He does not explain things well. His tests are very hard.
Smart guy and filled with information, too bad it had nothing to do with accounting. He is basically a genius who think everyone is as smart as he is, so he doesnt teach.
This teacher talks about everything except what you should be learning. He starts the class off so slow just dragging along and is speed racer at the end of class. Never gives effective examples. The things he does and says in class have nothing to do with class, quizzes, or the test. he is bad.
I like that he is more laid back than other accounting teachers. He gives curves, which I know someothers that don't. This might save your grade. Professor Bird does go off on a lot of tangents and usually explains things well. His tests are hard because the whole acct dept. makes them up. I would reccomend him.
this class was sooo hard! Dr.Bird has ADDDDDD! He never teaches, and his test has nothing to do with the jerald Ford or Jimmy Carter the only thing he talks about in class
Would have made an A if the test covered the free hawaiian vacation material he spent an hour telling us about in class. Requires attendance, and spends the whole class talking about road construction or something else completely unrelated to accounting. Do not take this class unless you can learn the material on your own.
He's a great guy, but has a propensity of getting off subject (namely accounting lol) When he's focused, he's clear. READ YOUR TEXTBOOK! DO THE HOMEWORK AND QUIZES and you CAN make an A.
Thanks goodness the semester iis over! Mr. Bird talks about everything other than accounting. Some evenings there was only like three people in our classroom but he talked like he was speacking in a huge auditorium. HE drove me nuts.
Mr. Bird seemed to have lots of information, none of which pertained to accounting though. I took him during MayMester which was a big mistake. He had 3.5 hours to talk about whatever he wanted M-F. It was horrible. I ended up dropping. I would only recommend him if you can teach yourself from the book.
He was a good professor and yes he did tell many stories that had nothing to do with ACCT but, it keep the class entertained. All you have to do is read the book and do the events and you should pass.
Dr. Bird gives great hypothetical examples dealing with tax implications. He is very fair, but the content is pretty dificult. i had him during summer term and thoroughly enjoyed the class. I was interested in Tax Accounting which helped with the somewhat boring material. I highly recommend Dr. Bird.
Never stayed on topic, always taking about something he watched on t.v the night before. Not good at explaining course material.
This class is HARD! Dr. Byrd is very intelligent but is not an effective teacher for those of us with no accounting background. He speaks so fast and you cannot read anything he puts on board. He talks about anything but accounting. He does not answer emails and does not return calls. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!
Great guy. He does like to get off the subject from time to time. He does cover the material straight from the book. The book is very boring and dry. The class is not boring though. Dr. Bird does a good job of using humor in his examples. If you read the book and attend class you'll do fine.
he is a friendly person, but not an effective teacher. He may b smart, but when it comes to student-teacher relationships and just teaching, he has no clue.
he is okay but get off subject and does not teach good he expects you to know the material when the class is an intro to acct. DONT TAKE HIM IF YOU CANT TEACH IT TO YOURSELF 1ST
This teacher is very smart and knows what he is talking about, but doesn't explain things well to the class. You really have to work the problems in the book to understand what is going on.
Spends about 10% of the time talking about the topic, and spends most of the time talking about something he watched on t.v or a recent conversation or his personal life.Who cares. Teach us what we need to learn, we are not interested in your funny and stupid jokes!!!! Not good at explaining course material.
I am an A student. But, for this class, whether you are good or not, it doesn't matter. If this instructor likes your face, you will get a good grade! Not fair at all!!The accounting department or the University should do something to avoid this kind of issue.
This clss has two exam, seven pop quiz, and one assignment. The first exam has two part, MC(close book)and problem solving(open book). The second exam is open book, and the over 90% is problem solving. The total question is 32 and 20 point bonus. The test time from 8pm to 10pm, but most of us spend almost 3 hours to finish it.IT IS RIDICULOUS CLASS
Is Bird the only tax professor available in Georgia? I guess the University shouldn't have any other option otherwise they would have fired this ...! I'm sure they are well aware of what's going on in his classes, how he teaches, how he treats his students and how incompetent he is. It is time now to get a good tax professor!
This teacher does spend alot of time off topic, but students have 2 realize that he is a professor & has earned a degree in a subject you're still trying 2 learn. Being closed minded & getting frustrated over the random stories he tell wll surly get u nowhere. Use the extra time to review the notes & carefully read assignments & you'll do well.me=A
Worst professor.Doesn't teach at all.
He rambles a lot! You have to depend on your book to teach u most of the stuff. He's also not approachable!
One of the five best teachers at UWG! (But make sure to read the textbook, too.)
Unlike ACCT 2101, BUSA 1900 is not a hard course. Mr. Bird is an excellent teacher!
The best tax teacher around. Required course. Hard course. Upbeat and really knows his stuff.
I'm really sorry to say, this class was a total waste of my time. Bird is a friendly guy, but he was consistently unorganized throughout the semester. The class was really pointless. In my opinion, Bird is a bad professor.
I remember well the moment I realized that I had met the worst professor at UWG.
Bruce's grading and teaching strategies are extremely unclear and unfair. Not willing to give any personal assistance.
Not a very nice person. He loves to put others down. If Bird decides that he does not like you the first week, he will not change his mind. (Should be noted I received an A in the class. This is not posted due to bad grade.)
AWFUL!!!!
Excellent teacher. Some students don't like him because he tells them what they don't want to hear.
Terrible! He is very unclear and when you go in his office, he will make you wait for hours and will hardly get 5mn to respond you.
This course is pretty hard and Dr. Bird didn't make it any easier. He does keep the class interesting by telling stories and jokes, but the line has to be drawn somewhere. I wouldn't recommend this teacher.
Had a high interest in that course but this worst professor made it awfull. He is just too much interested in his own business and do not care about students. He gets some kind of happiness by seeing students fail his class.
I'm surprised how unpopular Bird is. He's an excellent teacher. The tests are hard but you'll do okay if you study everything. You won't necessarily make an A, but you will learn so much by listening to him. Tax is extremely boring but he makes class so much fun and so interesting. I disagree with other comments. I rate him highly.
Very unorganized, talk, talk, talk about absoulutley nothing! Very unclear and unhelpful. If you want to learn something do not take this guy, seriously.
I made a B in this class but no thanks to Dr. Bird he is not a very good teacher at all! Where he may know what he talking about but he supposed to know how to teach!! And he doesn't!
To me, Bird is a very confusing teacher. I skipped class probably more than I actually went, but I still made at least a 90, if not a 109 on every test with a ten point curve included. Tests are not hard if you study with the course packet and read the chapters. Not too bad of a class, I just never went. lol :P
Excellent!
This is a great course! All of the material you'll need is available on-line. One of the best courses at UWG!
I had a lot of questions about Acct 2101 and Dr. Bird was really nice and helpful. I called him on his cell phone a number of times and he always answered my questions.
Knows his stuff. Gives good handouts.
Most of the students who come to class seem to do well in the course.
I liked this course.
He tries to keep things interesting.
Does anyone else feel like a lot of these comments were made by bird himself? I mean so many of them are made on the exact same day, trying to get his overall rating up
Very helpful. goes a litle off subject sometimes. he actally likes teaching and students.
Don't expect to be easy. He's a very good teacher and his lectures are pretty good too, but his test are insane. Study for a week in advance.
Professor Bird tries really hard to be funny and interact with students but he CANNOT teach. He does not explain things in a way a beginner would understand. He acts as if the student is already an accountant and gets very beligerant if students ask questions and DOES NOT answer them. Is rude and does not care if students understand. DO NOT TAKE HI
Smart dude. Nice enough guy. But not a very good teacher I am afraid. Spent too much time talking about things not relating to the subject and too little time putting dificult concepts in the easiest terms to understand. If you do the work you can pass but he's not easy.
Overall I would say he is excellent. There are some areas that could improve such as he writes on the board crooked so you can't read it. But he is very funny and makes jokes in class and has a ton of useful real life information that is good to know. He is a little odd but a lot of very intelligent people are! He is very fair and patience with us.
I learned a lot. Nice person, too.
read the stuff he gives you to read or you'll be sorry.
Our textbook was too expensive! The tests were open book. He will help you if you come by his office during his office hours.
Rambles like crazy. Students must learn to teach themselves in this class.
Good lecture notes online but terrible teacher.
worst teacher ever. I can't believe the school hired him.
You actually learn something in the class but must be prepared in class to receive participation points. Do the HW assignments and read his online notes, and a B is definitely achievable!
If you need help, he is there for you.
Learned even more. Read everything that he gives you. Nice guy too!
bad teacher, talks down to students like we are stupid.
Dr. Bird is excellent. I don't care what anybody says, tax is a nightmare to teach and Dr. Bird teaches it very well. I would never want to be a tax professor. We are lucky we have him in our department. Imagine Moffeit or someone else teaching tax. Dr. Bird makes the graduate tax class fun.
Tax is a hard class. He's a decent teacher, but he rambles a lot. At least all of the tests are open book...
Excellent tax teacher. Helpful and nice person.
My favorite accounting professor at UWG.
This course involves a lot of reading and some writing. Dr. Bird puts all of his lecture notes on-line. He is very helpful and easy to talk to outside of class.
Excellent teacher. If you read the assigned material and come to class, you can get a good grade in the course.
This course is a lot of work.
I took his class over the summer. Its alot of work but its easy work. I made an A. Hes good at helping you and explaining things. I recommend taking him.
Dr. Bird knows a lot about tax. You will need to read the textbook and on-line material to do well in this course.
I learned a lot about indididual income tax from Mr. Bird. He is an amazing teacher.
I like how Mr. Bird set up this course. If you study some for the final and get a 70 or more, you can drop your lowest test grade.
Mr. Bird knows how to teach accounting.
Excellent tax professor.
Mr. Bird is a good teacher, but this course is too much work for non-accounting majors.
Took this over summer,at first class started ok but it turned into an accounting class. Not what i signed up for. Too much work for a 2 cred hour class.
Funny and knowledgeable in regards to tax. I only wished he did more examples in class. Overall, great professor.
I took the summer course and it was do at your own pace. Not going to lie, the class was kind of difficult. However, if you're good on financial, policies, tax, and terms/math like that, you will probably do good. The book reading didn't help with the quiz questions. Some questions came straight from notes though.
He is hilarious. I took him for an Accounting Seminar class and all you have to do is show up to the once a week class, and turn in your resume/cover letter.
Funny guy but a horrible professor. If you have him in class don't bother coming to class. He spends every minute discussing life stories that have nothing to do with the text or test. You have to teach yourself. You get to use your textbook during the test, however, the test is so heavy you won't have time to flip through the book.
Professor Bird is my absolute favorite accounting professor at UWG. Not only is he knowledgeable, he actually cares and is a very fair grader. He goes above and beyond to make sure you understand and pass his classes. I wish he taught all accounting classes. Don't be shy in his class and take advantage of his office hours.
Do NOT take this professor. Im doing well in this class and its because I have taught myself and studied outside of class. His lectures are almost mine-numbingly boring and he keeps you late after class more often than not. I seriously would have done better taking this online. What a waste of tuition dollars.
terrible professor. does not actually teach you anything and you have to go home and teach yourself. do not take this class.
If you can take another professor, TAKE THEM INSTEAD. At first I would come to class but all he does is tell life stories so there is no point honestly. Extremely boring I'm walking away from this class learning nothing. BTW, The class is not that difficult its his teaching method that sucks.
Professor Bird is a good professor, but you have to put in the work. Tax is not an easy class, but Professor Bird does a pretty good job of explaining the concepts taught in the course. The most important thing is to read every chapter as the exams are open book. Also, make sure to attend class as much as possible.
Professor Bird is a great professor. He had many great speakers lined up for this course, and they helped me to get a good understanding of what fo expect after I graduate from college. This course only has one assignment and it is a resume/cover letter assignment. If you follow the directions of the assignment, you will pass this course.
Professor Bird would show up late to class almost every night, and would never acknowledge his tardiness. He then holds us 10min past the end time because the first half of the class is used to talk about personal anecdotes. He does not grade in a timely manner. Exams, quizzes, and assignments are easy.
I don't know if he means to be, but he is hilarious. This class was really easy, all you have to do is show up and listen to speakers. Their presentations can be interesting and useful too.
First and foremost this class required a 300 dollar tax book CCH Federal Taxation- Comprehensive Topics. Look at the syllabus to see what year you will need. Basically just read to book. Label where the information is at and you will do good on the exams.
Dr. Bird is a great individual, but this class is better taken online. The TEXTBOOK is your primary teacher with Dr. Bird available for extra assistance. Suck it up and buy the expensive book (get it used if you can) and invest in some highlighters and colored pens. Everything is open book, even the final, so get ready to read. A lot.
