Bruce is adorable!! He is sooo intelligent that it's a bit itimidating at times. He actually cares about his students. His class was very hard, not impossible to get an A (i did) but must work very hard in the essays. So sweet and won't screw u over, he's always available and ready to help.I<3HIM
bruce is awesome
Ah, Bruce, what can one say? He's brilliant, funny and...affectionate. Really cares how you're progressing, won't be hard on you for no reason, and even though his intellect can be intimidating, he won't be a **** about anything. Just get ready to listen to Bjork a lot. Other than that, he's great.
Bruce will inconvenience himself and go out of his way to help you. And he encourages you to ask this of him. The man takes genuine interest in how you develop over the course, he marks your progress and while he is tremendously knowledgeful, you can see that he also takes the time to learn about his individual students. My favorite professor!
Bruce is the sweetest guy in the world. He loves to challenge any preconcieved notions you have about the world: so he loves original thinkers.
Bruce is quite possibly the nicest and most brilliant man who ever taught me. I think that I am going to miss him next semester. If you can get him, get him; he taught me to use semicolons.
Bruce is the most annoying professor I have. He start class 10 minutes early, and we leave 20 minutes late everday. He is highly intelligent no doubt, but if you buy into half the stuff he says you are dumb. Did not learn a thing about writing, only about Bjork (he cries in class thinking about Bjork songs). Steer clear if you are sane!
Bruce is absolutely wonderful. Tells fabulous stories, doesn't tolerate laziness or ignorance. Will make you feel curious and bewildered each class. Will push you to your limits, make you think, make you listen to Bjork. If you are not a complete **** you will take his class. I loved it.
Bruce is the most flighty person I have ever met in my life. Everything he says is based on bizarre philosophy and his train of thought is completely impossible to follow. Every lecture is a fight to retain your sanity; it reminds me of the 2-minutes hate. Bruce's lectures are incoherent, boring, and generally painful.
Oh yes. YES! Bruce is the man.
The best professor I've had at NYU!
sometimes bromley says ridiculously obscene things but they are always hilarious. he can be a real hard-ass and snap alot, but all that just adds to his ability to motivate and teach his students. he made me a much better essay writer in just a few classes.
I dropped this class because the man speaks gibberish and makes no sense. For a writing teacher, his writing is absurdly poor.
Amazing teacher, intellect is astounding. Will go out of his way to help you. Will give extentions on a paper, but you must ask. You will learn and develop as a writer. Not easy to get an A, and he expects your best effort at all times. Listen to his corrections or it will hurt you. His intellect can be intimidating. Be prepared, but worth it.
Bruce is an amazingly gifted and caring professor. Attendance is mandatory, but it's worth it. If you don't go to class, then you can't succeed. Not easy to get an A, but if you put in your best effort all the time, it is 100% possible. Loved this class and this prof.
Bruce is extremely intelligent. While this is helpful to your learning experience, it makes the class somewhat difficult. Bruce's intellect is scary sometimes. You must go to class, you will listen to Bjork, and make sure you take his advice and corrections. You'll pay if you don't pay attention here, but you can learn a lot.
Bruce is amazing. He is one of the most intelligent individuals I've met. (NYU has so many!!) He really cares and wants to help everyone. He is the most eclectic man EVER. You will never be bored. Take him, you'll be a better person after, owing it all to this man.
Bruce is a great professor. He's original, witty, and interesting. Though I may not have always agreed with all his comments, I appreciated his thoughts. He's very kind and willing to make your life easier if you ask and work with him as well. Not difficult to get an A, but you have to care about your work and learn to think outside the box!
Bruce is one of those professors you MUST have before leaving NYU. He is a phenomenal teacher and is possibly the MOST compassionate professors on campus. His class is challenging yet rewarding. If you have the opportunity to take him, you definitely should. He makes writing the essay enjoyable, so much so that I don't want the semester to end!
If you take this class seriously and give a sincere effort, Bruce will by far make this one of your most fulfilling academic experiences at NYU. While at first the papers seem daunting (I remember thinking how the hell am I going to even get a B in this class)if you utilize Bruce and his generous willingness to help you, you can get an A.
In his class I learned nothing about writing except for Bjork. And it is hard to follow what he is saying. Your writing basically have to be similar to his style of writing or else it isn't good to him. Overall, I really didn't like his class.
Bruce is certainly an interesting man. Sometimes I'm too distracted by his manner and appearance to follow his strange trains of thought. He curses randomly, but in the end he really cares about you and is willing to help. And he loves complexity... a lot. You'll definitely learn how to write better and more imaginatively after this class!
I had Bruce during my first semester of freshman year and he honestly made the experience unforgettable. He is brilliant, deep, totally outspoken, knowledgeable, creative, and, deep down, very compassionate and generous. At times he can seem intimidating but when it comes down to it he legitimately cares about and supports all his students.
Bruce is possibly one of the strangest people on earth. I am convinced he is an alien. BUT he is certainly the smartest, most interesting, creative and devoted alien ever. He curses like a sailor and once you get over his weirdness, you'll really come to love him. Hands down one of NYU's best.
I had great expectations coming into this class because I saw that he had extraordinary ratings on the NYU course evaluations website. However, I was pretty disappointed because I found out that he treats the course as a music class, not a writing class. Even though this does make it less boring, I feel like I didn't learn anything this semester.
He rambles on a lot and has a stuttering problem, so its hard to follow his train of thought. His class was easier than other WTE classes because it wasn't as writing intensive. We spent a lot of time analyzing music instead of writing, so it wasn't too dry. He often postponed deadlines for papers. You won't learn much but take him for an easy A.
Bruce is one of the most interesting and inspiring professors I have ever had. He truly cares about all of his students. I feel extremely lucky to have had him this semester, and would recommend him without a doubt to anyone. I was dreading having to take Writing the Essay, but it is now a class I look forward to every week. Bruce is amazing!!!
To believe that this class is a music class is to disregard the very lesson taught in Writing the Essay. Bruce is an incredible professor teaching a class that's dreaded across campus. However, he returns the subject to its students with media that you will not see/hear/sense otherwise in ways that matter the most to responsible writers.
Bruce is fabulous -- if you care, that is. I would only recommend him to students who actually wish to improve their writing and take time to think about, reflect on, what each text provides. Don't waste your, or his, time otherwise. He honestly cares and you can benefit so much more from his class if you genuinely want to learn. Thank you.
I really appreciate the time Bruce devotes towards helping each student improve his or her writing skills. Sure he's an eccentric guy and may teach the class differently from other writing professors, but I believe he is exposing us to a richer variety of texts that will help us open our minds and develop our analytical skills.
OhMyGod. Bruce. His class was hands down the BEST class I've ever taken in all my years of education. I am grateful to have the fortune of basking in his eternal wisdom. I also LOVE his music lessons. They provide so much more depth into the writing experience and think it's a great way to practice writing. I highly recommend this class. Thank You.
Bruce is an amazing professor who really cares about his students and their improvement. If you care to listen and actually apply his lessons then your writing will improve, significantly. He may have some eccentric ways of teaching; but, as he would say "this isn't dry****!" I highly recommend Bruce who turns a required class into a pleasure.
I lucked out by taking Bruce for WTE- I leave literally every class with my horizons expanded and my previous ways of thinking questioned, and therefore growing. Bruce also REALLY cares about his students and if you need help, he'll do his best to help you. Put simply: inspiring, intelligent, genuinely a caring person, will improve your writing and
Of course I'm fabulous!
Take this class if you want to learn about Bjork. Take another class if you want to learn how to write.
He is awesome:) You will learn so much in class if you ACTUALLY try. If you don't get what he's trying to say or explain, it's because you are not thinking hard or deep enough. He really cares about his students! A Must Take.
I would like to note that, most "criticisms" here are from those of you who SUCK in this class, and didn't get A's. I'm sorry you didn't do well, but THAT EXPLAINS WHY you are here "criticizing" highly relevant stuff like his stutters. He does not complain to you of how INCREDIBLY STUPID you are, although he should, in my opinion.
Amazing professor. Very intelligent and analytical and really cares about all his students. He goes far out of his way to help every student who needs it, and he will make you think about things in ways you never have before. Take him!
Do EVERYTHING you can to get Bruce as your Writing the Essay prof. It will truly be a mind-altering educational experience. He doesn't just teach you how to write an essay; he opens your mind to the nature of the world we share, and teaches you how to think critically about life's boundless implications. I swear, you'll never meet anyone like him.
A great guy, very alternative and interesting, but in my opinion rather over-hyped. He tends to repeat himself a lot, that is, he speaks in generalities and all ties them in to the same two or three over-arching themes he likes to talk about, and his use of evidence in backing up his thoughts is sometimes spotty. Still, though, a good guy.
Had him for Writing the Essay. Honestly one of the best instructors I have ever known. He is brilliantly smart, so don't BS him. Really get to know him, if you can, he actually cares! (which is odd, for an NYU professor). You would be a fool not to take class with him. Like. . .seriously. . .so worth it.
Fantastic and passionate teacher. He'll open up your mind in ways you can't even imagine right now. In class writing involves paintings, music, movies, and performances. He's an artist and communicates to us through art. Had him for linked WTE (with Renzi), and was always willing to help. Emphasizes that we can always email or talk with him. Great!
fantastic teacher, very good guy, extremely helpful and really cares about his students. one of the best at NYU. I was very lucky to have him. I recommend Bruce 100%
Took this linked with Renzi's Texts and Ideas - Bruce is the BEST, he cares about his students so much, literally the nicest guy ever and a fair grader, I got an A and didn't think it was too hard.
Out of college for several years now and still fondly remember Writing the Essay with Prof. Bromley. Dedicated, smart, funny, entertaining and a hell of a teacher. You will become a better writer by taking a class with Bruce because he will tear your writing apart, which is what any freshman year writing prof should do.
Best, most compassionate, teacher on campus. even if you do not care about the material (which you should) it is his mission to get you to react! Take this class if you consider yourself "not a wall-flower" (one of Bruce's catch phrases). This man changed my experience at NYU forever and altered the way i think of the world. Take This CLASS
Bruce is a great professor. If you care, he will care in return. There is no doubt you will be a better writer if you work hard in his class. That said, he expects a lot from his students, but it is well worth it. He will make Writing the Essay your favorite class of the semester.
He's a fair grader, and helps clarify things when you need them clarified. However, I felt that a lot of what we learned, we could have done on our own. The exercises in class were mostly pointless. Regardless, he'll take you from a good writer to a very good writer, and that help is necessary.
Take him if you can - he'll turn Writing the Essay from something unbearable into something interesting and actually useful!
Whenever you need help, he makes it clear that he is there for you, but I would suggest also taking advantage of the Writing Center at NYU. His lectures are actually quite life altering! They really give you another way of looking at nature and human beings. Bruce tells you to "feel" the writing, or else ours will be stale.
Your grade in this class is directly affected by how much you care about the class, and to be honest this is a class you should care about because unlike other Writing the Essay professors, Bromley actually cares not only about the subject, but about his students even more.
Best class I have ever taken. Amazing teacher, inspiring, funny, incredibly smart, and shares the most interesting texts/art/history with the class.
Bruce is an absoute maniac with a unique worldview. That being said, if you can get through a lot of Bjork, this class will improve the way you think and write. He's extremely helpful and open.
Bruce is one of if not the most caring professor you will have in College. He truly cares about his students' wellbeing, and their growth both inside and out of the classroom. Gives great feedback on all homeworks, and drafts. He is also extremely accessible. If you have the chance then it is a no brainer to take one of his classes!
Bruce was my most inspirational professor, and made me think in a whole new way. By the end of the course, I actually enjoyed writing. Very funny, artsy, philosophical, and fair. HW can be pretty long but it does directly help your final essays. He exposes you to a lot of art in several forms and uses it to enhance your writing. Highly recommend!
Listen to what he says in class and you'll do well. They are real ideas and are applicable to both your essays and life.
Professor Bromley is a handful. He talks A LOT, his lectures are long and winding, often complicated. He can go on and on about philosophical ideas, the importance of knowing Greek and Latin roots, and Bjork. Even though his assignment prompts were very clear, they were too demanding. He is willing to help and cares about his students, though.
Bruce deeply cares about, and believes in, his students. A Spectrum of Essays is not by any means an easy class, but he gives you all the tools you need to succeed and is always there for you if you need him. If you have a chance to take a class taught by Bruce Bromley - do it.
I took both of the classes Bruce has to offer. I had heard such horrible things about WTE at NYU but Bruce not only made it painless, he taught me so much. He is caring, he understand that people have lives outside of the classroom, and if you actually try, you are almost guaranteed to get an A. I learned so much from this man. Take his class.
A humane and very caring professor, both inside and outside the classroom. Probably one of the best, if not the best, professor that you can have.
Bromley was a great teacher. You barely have any homework, you're graded only on three final papers and a few participation points. He gives great feedback and really wants you to succeed.
One of the few professors who actually care about you and your wellbeing. He exposes you to a magnitude of art and forces you to connect with it. Pretty easy grader, too. I heard horrible things about WTE, but Bruce's class was the polar opposite.
Great professor, difficult but engaging class work, generous grader but not to a point where you can turn in trash, very invested un his students and their wellbeing and success.
One of my favorite professors at NYU. Clear instruction and will help edit your essays before you submit them for a grade. He's funny and really cares for his students, best professor for WTE
Professor Bromley is kind, caring and exposes his students to a variety of media that is worth learning from. I loved his class. Be sure to put in the work and send him drafts of your essays before time, and take notes during class and you will be okay.
Bruce is one of the most caring professors I've encountered at NYU. There are three progressions, and in each he pushes you to write in a style that is less conforming and open to interpretation. If you demonstrate excitement and determination, it is an easy A. Make sure to follow his writing tips he gives in class and the syllabus guide.
Literally the best. Easy A, and you actually write things you end up being proud of. As long as you follow his instructions and try, you'll be good. And make sure to send your drafts to him! He'll give you everything you need to fix - there's no reason not to get an A.
Professor Bruce is amazing!! I had the best experience in expos because of him which I never thought I would be able to say. He works with YOUR voice and doesnt try to alter it to his liking unlike other professors. I also loved how I got to write about things Im passionate about. 10/10 take his class if you can!!
After reading his excellent reviews, I was thrilled to have gotten Bromley as a professor. However, my expectations were completely different from my true experience in this class. He rambles to no end during classes, making it very difficult to remain focused, and provides very unclear instructions on assignments and essays.
Professor Bromley has been one of the best professors I've had at NYU. He was easygoing and the overall classroom atmosphere was very comfortable. The course materials were varied and it made the class engaging. Professor Bromley was also very accessible in-and-out of class, and always provided excellent feedback to papers.
Amazing professor that actually cares about his students. You won't ever meet another professor that takes so much time to carefully read all of his student's papers and give individualized feedback. His prompts are mentally stimulating and challenging in the best way possible. It's not too hard to get an A on the papers.
I loved Bruce for Writing the Essay!! Taught us how to write an interesting essay and let us write about what we care about. Not too many papers either, just three over the whole semester. Doesn't grade them very harshly, either. A little bit ramble-y in class, but what he says is interesting and you can tell he cares about what he's teaching you.
I had always heard horror stories about writing the essay but Bruce was amazing. The class was so engaging and each class we would do exercises using movies, songs, and art. It really made you think and it has made me a better writer for sure. Not to mention his feedback on essay drafts is so incredibly helpful.
This won't be your typical WTE experience. You'll watch Björk music videos, potentially some triggering things w/o any warning, and read some good essays. You'll do well if you listen to him and pander to him in your writing. You won't do well if you write about any views which do not align with his.
Dr. Bruce Bromley is amazing! He will teach you a lot about our world. This class honestly changed my life. Its a cliche thing to say, but youll know what Im saying once you take his class. We get a reasonable amount of work in and outside of class. Only three big papers. Take WTE with Bruce if you can!!!
Professor Bromley is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is an inspirational speaker, genuinely kind, and reasonable. He works with the student's voice, rather than trying to modify it. He cares about his students, evident from his availability for office hours and over email. Take his class if you can! He is AMAZING!
As a First year student at NYU, taking Professor Bromley's class greatly improved my transition to college. He is the funniest, kindest professor you could wish for, not to mention incredibly knowledgeable. The coursework is interesting and engaging. The workload was also very manageable: 3 essays, and minimal homework.
Great teacher. Offers to write you letters of recommendation, and ends up being your best friend. I love him to death. He is kind and very generous with his time. Workload is reasonable and you will be happy with your score if you put in the work. 10/10.
Bruce is amazing!! He really cares about giving you good feedback on your work and makes you a better thinker and writer. There are three essays and some assigned readings, so there isn't a ton of work. If you pay attention to the stuff he shows in class and really put the thought into making your essays good, you'll do great.
Wow he is one of the greatest professors I have had. ive heard WTE is hell for most people, but I can confidently say I have left his class with a greater appreciation for art and the world than the first day. His essay advice is incredibly helpful, and as long as you show interest in his class are care you will get an A. Wonderful professor!
This guy is awesome. He really helped me improve my writing. He lets you send revised drafts before the final submission so that you know you're on the right track, and gives you extensions if he doesn't reply on time. He truly cares about all his students. If you're not very good at writing, TAKE HIM! He will genuinely help you.
Professor Bromley truly cares about his students and their well-being. We have three essays overall and between those essays progressions where you write about artwork. He is a great grader and is lenient with deadlines because he understand we got stuff going on too. You can send in drafts and before the final essay submission and get good feedbac
Dr. Bromley really cares about his students. He is very understanding and brings in a lot of really interesting material to class. Really great writing the essay teacher!
Loved Professor Bromley. He genuinely cares about his students and makes his class interesting as well as informative.
Professor Bromley genuinely cares for all of his students. He is very understanding that we are all college students and that we all have other things going on. He gives the best feedback and is very easy to reach outside of class. My writing improved dramatically and I would take him again in a heart beat.
Best professor I had this semester. He is so caring and really wants you to succeed. The class is fun, not your boring old high-school English class. You watch music videos and write responses, discuss important issues, and engaging things. Essays are super fun to write and he gives great and encouraging feedback. Super caring. Take him if you can!
Definitely the best professor I've taken this semester. Gives so much feedback on your work and genuinely cares about the success of his students. Super kind and respected. Classes are very engaging and interesting. Loved this class.
Professor Bromley is super sweet and cares about his students, he can be a little strange at times but he is good at what he does and is genuinely on his students' side.
There isn't enough space to explain how wonderful he is as a professor and person. Hands down my favorite professor I've ever had at NYU. He genuinely cares about his students' work AND wellbeing. Very accessible for feedback, and he always answers emails. You are lucky if you ever cross paths with him.
I LOVE prof Bromley. If you are interested in art, music, & pop-culture based writing, this is THE class for you. He gives such in depth feedback which is so helpful. He is honest, yet very understanding of your circumstances. Not to mention you will probably get a good laugh! A very thought-provoking class. Gives Sikowitz from Victorious vibes.
I LOVE BRUCE!! hes so sweet and very considerate of what you are going through I'm so sad I can't take his class next year because of his feedback on your essay's and because of all the considerate strength he gives you to motivate you to be your best. He is apart of the sassy apocalypse like HEAVILY so dont cross him but hes a doll
check his twitter :D
He gives so many great feedback on students' work. His lectures are so inspirational and useful in daily life.
The first English professor from who I actually learned something. Such a nice welcoming classroom environment. His feedback is super helpful and he is very available to his students.
Truly amazing, someone who really cares about his students. He's understanding and is responsive to emails. Gives wonderful feedback and exposes his students to lots of different types of media. He's a sweetheart and definitely a mentor I will always remember. 2 essays and 1 final presentation, but is tentative to change. Please take his class :)
I absolutely loved this professor, people might say he is sassy but he only lashes out if you ask questions that were listed in the syllabus. Participation through the shared docs matters a lot, really engage yourself in the material rather than just completing for a simple grade you actually learn a lot rather than satisfying a major requirement.
I was a biology major and took this class for an English credit. This is the first writing class I have ever taken that genuinely helped me improved as a writer. The professor is kind, helpful, and honest. I wish I had taken this class earlier in my college career. I would recommend Bruce to every student at NYU regardless of major
Bruce is an incredible writing instructor! He brings thought-provoking global issues into class discussions, provides detailed and constructive feedback, and truly helps students grow as writers. His sweet and charming personality makes the class engaging and supportive. Highly recommend!
Bruce is a professor who cares, you can genuinely tell once you take his class. His work is very manageable and he is a very reasonable professor. Best professor and teacher I have had.
An incredibly experienced faculty at NYU for 20+ years. His comments encourage students to think far beyond writing techniques and structures; you can tell he cares about everything you write. Easy A, lots of in-class writing, but only 2 big essays and 1 project. It is highly recommended if you actually wanna make your tuition worthwhile.
You are only getting a good grade in this class if you agree with everything bromley says. You cannot form an opinion of your own. You will be wrong. He is very moody, lowkey attacks people at times, thinks he's woke when he is just an extremist. All of the assignments are revolved around the same topics, and his prompts are 3 pages long.
Awesome professor who makes the class super engaging. Provides valuable feedback and is genuinely invested in helping students succeed. Unstuck study was a great supplement for study prep.
Bruce is smart and passionate about his work but I found him to be intense, unapproachable, and not very understanding. His grading criteria was a little unclear, lots of papers, writing, and final project was a presentation. Learned a lot in his class and I thought it was structured in a unique way. But he's very intense so be prepared for that.
He made me cry over an email. This could have been a really interesting class, the problem I had was that he was not good with his emails and would get rude when emailing students. I couldnt figure out the formatting for one test and he essentially berated me over email so much so that I felt like I couldnt ask him how to actually format the paper.
Such a sweetheart! One of the most memorable professors I've had at NYU. Genuinely cares about his students. If you respect him he will return it.
Amazing writing teacher! Super kind and inclusive to all backgrounds. The diversity of voices he incorporated in class was great. He doesn't overload us with work at all, and is very understanding of his students. The in class writing was super fun, and the essay topics were very nuanced and open. I learned so much from him, and he is very kind.
Prof.Bromley is very kind and great at communicating. I genuinely find this class interesting, and enjoy listening as he talks about our sources, and the greater issues relevant to them. He gives great feedback on the intro sections of your essays, and he gives amazing guidance how to continue. His class was a great journey, and I grew in many ways
Dr. Bromley was one of my first professors and by far my favorite. He strives to connect one-on-one with students and his feedback is super helpful. He is also incredibly wise. Literally a walking textbook of cultural knowledge, it's insanely impressive. If you say something ignorant he won't let you off the hook, but he will kindly help you learn!
Nice professor who introduced me to a lot of different forms of media. Very strong opinions, but nice to talk to.
