very good teacher
Great teacher, nice understanding guy
lazy, not helpful or understanding though he tried good for lower level econ
hes a really good teacher, helps out and lots of extra credit
great guy, one of the better micro techers, lots of xtra credit!!
Bruce is the boy! take him, not too bad.
great professor, better than most econ profs.
Fun class, lots of extra credit. Nice guy.
GREAT GUY, X-Tra Credit, killer final...go to class and seek out help
I'm a history guy, but he made me love ECON - very funny
Nice guy, lots of extra credit and not a lot of work outside the classroom, just go to class.

Such a great guy. It's hard to find a good econ teacher, but he made it relatively easy to understand the material and was always willing to help out. Funny and good personality too. Don't take any other econ teacher.
He's such a nice and understand guy, however his class is a BEAST! It's SO hard and the final was the hardest test I've ever taken since I've been in college!
He is a nice, laid-back guy, but he is a sloooow grader and his expectations are sometimes unclear.
Really nice guy, kinda goofy. First three tests arent bad, FINAL IS SOOO HARD! But hes a great teacher and makes it easy to understand.
didn't have a clue what was going on but somehow passed.. real nice guy though
Don't follow him in class unless you read beforehand
Hard to follow at times, I kicked ass in macro, but this is killing me. Tests are straightforward, as long as you read and understand course. I dunno why im having trouble. Hes nice though, seems better than most.
awesome guy and teacher... class is alittle boring...but he is more than willing to help students. He really wants his students to do well.
hes an awesome teacher but the subject is so boring
Good teacher. Doesn't count attendance, posts evrything on blackboard.
He's experienced in consulting and is helpful in pointing you in the right direction. However, he's not 100% clear as to how he'll grade a paper or what he expects to see in it. That's the field, though. It's the closest thing to real life work in
really nice guy! integrates outside reading to make it relevant to class. a "non-econ" sorta class... current events, poli sci based. essay tests, 1 short paper. attendance taken. learned lots.
I hate econ, but econ with Brunton wasn't so bad. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he lectures sometimes on stuff that can't be found in the book. That's kind of annoying. Overall though I'd reccomend him if you have to get econ out of the way.
Very nice guy and really concerned about his students and can relate to you very well. Explains well and its easy to pull out a B+ if you do the assignments. Being such a rad guy, I wish I could take other ECON classes from the stud.
Excellent Class all the way around. He listens to the students' input and teaches very precisely. Always willing to explain stuff multiple times and the class is challenging yet rewarding. Best econ teacher I've found at JMU
Some of the stuff is confusing, but he's pretty good at teaching it. I'd recommend him. There's like 8 assignments (either in class or hw) the lowest one is dropped. And like 4 tests.
Brunton is a good professor, really nice guy, but his monotone voice will put you to sleep in his class. Tests aren't that bad, teaches the material well.
Professor brunton is a good professor and teaches the material well. He will put you to sleep at times but its econ so any professor will put you to sleep. Test are kind of hard but you should read and take notes when is talking. Athletes class
Awesome professor!
Very boring class made interesting by a fun, great teacher!!!
Nice guy-easy class. Tests based on notes. Always gives study guides. Go to class and you'll do well. He's a good teacher and I'm recommending him to everyone. Not too boring and some class assignements are extra credit.
Sexy and Nice.
Interesting class... a lot of reading. Very nice man.
Not bad. There's lots of easy assignments to help with your grade. Classes are a little boring but overall not bad.
Professor Brunton is a nice guy. Tests are fairly difficult, but that is expected in any micro class. Can be boring, but the small assignments and extra credit will really help out.
This course is thought provoking and Dr.B knows how to explain complex theory and models, I would recommend him as and advisor and one of the standout in the dept. Ask a question and you'll get the knowledge. Great Class and Prof.
he's really hot for an older guy, but pretty difficult to follow. his tests seem to make sense, then you'll get your grade back & it's low!
Hottest econ professor alive... I can't wait to take another class from him!!
If this is the easiest econ professor, then you're still in trouble. class is HARD. You think that you know what you're doing and then you get test grade and its a D. other assignments/extra credit but will not help that much. only take if needed for your major bcs it is a GPA killer
TAKE HIM!!! I took him for repeat forgive for econ 201 and got a B without too much effort. The econ profs such at jmu except for brunton!

Even though I really hate ECON, I have learned more in his class than any other one. Tests are hard in my opinion but homework and in-class assignments really help your grade. If you really want to understand ECON I recommend taking this class!
Bruce is awesome. He makes this class very fair and possible to pull off a B. He makes it interesting and offers extra credit if you go to class. 8 assignments help pull up your grade and are not that hard. He is the best ECON professor at JMU. Gives options on his test of what you can answer. Funny guys, relates well with his students. Enough said
Great guy, REALLY interested in what he does. Went to office a bunch of times and he is just interesting to listen too. Really study for the tests though cause they can be tricky, but he gives you a detailed study guide way before hand, so no excuses!
Very nice guy! Tests are very long and are hard to finish on time. Sometimes is unclear when teaching.. he tends to mumble. Overall, he's a good professor but his tests are kind of hard and his other assignments are only worth 8 points. Go to class because he has in class assignments and extra credit.
Tests are very hard even with study guide. Nice guy and gives good extra credit but goes over material too quickly
a very nice prof. who really wants to help but is usually unclear in his explanation. Really need to do the reading and study a fair amount for the tests. Offers extra credit in class. Knows a lot on the subject but doesn't seem to be able to explain himself well. Not an extremely difficult prof. but not an easy B either
great guy, really knows what he is talking about, but the tests seem like they are fairly easy when you are taking them but once you get your grade back- it is a different story. study hard for the tests, material is difficult to begin with, but if you keep up with the reading material you will be fine
Really nice guy. Tests are hard, avg are usually in the high 60's to low 70's. 3 tests and a final. Gives you extra credit and study sheets for the test. No real homework, a lot of group assignments. Take him if you can, he's one of the best econ teachers at JMU, I'm taking this class without ever taking macro and I have a B avg.
Tests are really hard. He's a nice guy and knows what he's talking about. Study, study, study.
Probably the Best Econ Prof. @COB. Tests are extremely hard and never curve his tests. Doesn't offer a lot xtra credits. He's willing to help u if u don't understand sth. Tell some funny stories about his kids sometimes in class. Not easy to get B or above, but you might want to take him.
Hands down THE BEST econ professor at JMU.. I've learned more from him than any other econ class I've taken at JMU... Brunton is funny, nice and most importantly he knows how to teach econ.. Test are by all means not easy, but he is extremely helpfull and will make you understand it .. Just come to class.
Very interesting subject, but I thought he was a little boring at times. Explains things well, expectations are clear, and tests are fair.
Brunton really knows the subject well however economics is a different type of thinking from anything else. He is usually pretty good at explaining things but he only knows how to explain them in one way so if you do not get it he is not very helpful if you ask further questions. Tests are hard but extra credit HELPS A LOT.
Very nice guy, pretty good at explaining but Economics isn't the easiest thing in the world to learn either. Fair amount of extra credit. Attendance isn't mandatory but it's good to go so you can get any notes, extra credit, or assignments.
This class is boring. But he is a good professor. I just dont like economics.
The best econ professor at JMU!!! Very kind and understanding, explains things really well, gives easy assignments and some extra credit. A very cool guy.
I would not reccommend him...I ended up dropping out midway through the semester. I got an A in macro, but this prof was not clear when taught, tests very difficult (avg. 65) and I actually went to every class..although he may be one of the better for micro -- not good...
Brunton is a good teacher. He tries his best to answer questions during class but he is the most helpful during his office hours. Avgs for tests: 1)72 2)68 3)77 Final: 71... most of the tests are difficult but fair... Plenty of opportunities to get extra credit to boost final grade about 4%... going to class is a must
love him. the class is hard though, but he makes it worth it. the subject can be painful. I really having a prof who is actually a REAL person. you have assignments that should only help your grade and review sheets.
Take him! He has a great teaching style that makes class go by quickly, with lots of activities and examples. He also gives a few opportunities for extra credit throughout the semester. Attendance isn't mandatory but you get a lot out of the lectures and can avoid reading if you go, plus get extra credit for assignments some days.
i really like him, but the class is hard! he gives great review sheets before tests but they are still impossible. i'm killing myself to get a C. econ is just hard, but he does his best to teach it in simple real life examples. i would take him if you want to learn, not worry about getting an A.
subject is tricky, but he is good at rewording things when he explains. go to class to get bonus points, but not mandatory. pay attention and follow his study guides should make for an easy A. my friend used the book a lot, i didnt but we both got an A. Nice guy. good prof to have
I had never taken an econ class before and was worried about the difficulty, but Brunton is an awesome professor! He explains everything very well and uses lots of examples, always asks if anyone has any questions. If you read along and go to class, you should be fine. He gives lots of extra credit.
For me, this class is incredibly boring and very hard to pay attention. Everything Professor Brunton uses is directly from the text book except a few assignments (they boost your grade though so make sure you go to class). Overrall, it's a very difficult class, but possible if you put in a lot of effort.
Subject matter can be confusing. Uses lecture notes straight from the textbook (including premade slides). Wished he put a bit more effort into personalizing his lectures. Read the book and study for the exams and you'll do ok.
If you take him don't expect any help when asking him questions. He never answers your questions directly, which left me confused and without an answer. Unless you sit in the front you won't be able to understand him. He talks to softly and faces the chalk board when talking. I wouldn't recommend him.
Brunton is a very good professor imo. No homework, in-class activities usually every Friday. Tests are somewhat difficult but the class is generally difficult. Study for the tests (from the in-class activities) and it shouldn't be hard to achieve a "B".
He is a great teacher. I would definately reccomend him. He is interesting and makes it easy to understand the concepts. The subject is not easy, but he gives lots of extra credit. I have an A in the class
He gives Extra credit almost every friday. Group work at least once a week, he takes the highest five grades from the group work. And study guides from the test. The textbook clarifies but Bruce is so willing to help and he really wants students to do well. I hate ECON and had to drop MACRO, but he helped me pass MICRO with a B.
He's a good teacher and a really nice guy but this class is SOOOOO boring. the material isn't too hard, and he gives a pretty good study guide before all the tests. 8 assignments throughout the semester: top 5 count and 6th is extra credit. plus he gives lots more extra credit. overall, not bad.
Best teacher you can get for micro econ, plenty of extra credit chances, only 8 in class assignments which 5 count and 6 is Extra credit. Study guide for every test which are multiple choice and then the option of doing more multiple choice or open ended questions. Take this guy
Professor Brunton, is a nice man just not the best professor. If you ask him questions, he doesnt directly answer you. Although test averages were in the 60s he would not curve. You have to use the book a lot. The class is difficult and he makes it harder than it has to be. I had to drop at midterms had a D and definitely do not recommend.
Absolutely impossible class! Material is straightforward but tests are ridiculously hard!
Good guy, you have to read the textbook outside class to preform well on tests. He uses graphs and information directly from the textbook in class so if you depend on him then it will be more difficult than you need to
Micro is going to be hard no matter what. Brunton explains everything clearly, though. Allows you to miss two assignments or to drop your two lowest. Tests are hard, but if you study, you can get A's. Read the book. I reccommend him for micro!
Brunton is amazing, he's really clear with his examples, very funny and a really nice guy, and really helpful. Tests are pretty hard, but if you study, come to class and do examples from the book its okay. Definitely take his class!
Brunton is a really good teacher. Material is pretty straight forward. Tests are pretty hard but if you take advantage of review sessions and study you can do very well in the class. Gives lots of extra credit and does in class assignments on friday so that you can better understand the material. Definitely take Brunton.
love him love him love him! nice professor! gives a lot of extra credits! an easy A! the in-class-assignments are really helpful! no homeworks! easy exams!
Go to class in order to do the assignments and possible extra-credit. Micro is not that hard, try to get the logic behind the graphs and you will be fine. Textbook is very helpful
365 is a complex class. Tons of reading and tests are pretty tough. Bruce makes it bearable, though. He's the man.
Econ is a difficult subject regardless, but he's one of the best micro professors. His tests are a little on the harder side but he does a good job at teaching the material. Highly recommend him!
Unclear, unorganized, and boring. I've always gotten A's in Econ, and I thought development would be interesting and easy. He is too specific on tests while never truly answering questions in class. Save yourself a headache and HOURS of studying for nothing -- Don't take him
Great guy! Took him this summer. I did not read the textbook at all and got an A. Easy if you have a business/econ background. Tests are conceptually word for word based on what he says and notes he gives. Also his powerpoints are great if you have trouble with his lectures. Definitely consider taking him if you have a choice.
Brunton is a fantastic teacher! His notes are super clear and he explains everything in a way that makes it simple to understand. He has 3 tests that are very difficult and a final exam. Study guides are very helpful but require hours of studying. I had to use textbook a lot. Overall a great teacher and can be pretty funny!
The worst teacher I've had at JMU so far. Terrible at explaining the material. Very unorganized. His lectures are vague yet his tests get very detailed. Take someone else.
Explains the lecture way too difficult. The tests are really hard. All application problems. Econ is a hard subject in general but if you really try you can succeed. He is a nice and funny man, and willing to help. He gives 8 group in class assignments to help your grade and takes your best 6. Non cumulative final, and no homework. 2 tests.
Awful, boring professor. His monotone will put you to sleep, and his lectures are so vague that you have to rely on the textbook or the peer adviser to teach you. His tests are detailed, and his review sheets are pretty vague. Avoid him at all costs.
Hist of the American Economy was not hard to get a B but impossible to get an A. Half the test was random facts from the readings that had no relationship to the major themes. If you're cool with getting a B/C, take it. It will be easy.
Bruce is the man. Curves the class a lot at the end and his in class assignments are really easy. Lectures are a bit boring but if you are a hard worker you'll get an A; with little work you get a B at minimum. Tests are very fair
i loved him! he's really sweet and funny. genuinely wants you to succeed. if you go to his office hours, he will help you out a lot! economics is hard for me and if i did well on the final, i will end up with an A in the class. DO THE ASSIGNMENTS AND COME TO CLASS TO GET EXTRA CREDIT!!
Good guy, the test are pretty hard so study for them. Also if you get the MyLab with you text book use it! He takes question directly from it for quizzes.
Great teacher and a good guy
Great professor and class if you have some econ background. Lectures are pretty vague but go to class especially on worksheet days. I highly suggest getting MyEconLab with the textbook for online practice tests. His tests are mostly application which is what I personally struggled with with no background. Overall, nice guy and was very helpful.
Professor Brunton is one of the better Microeconomics teachers. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed. His tests are fair. However the class is still challenging if you don't love economics. His lectures are also confusing because he moves around a lot. He goes from PowerPoint to Word to online resources, so it is hard to follow.
Came into this class with no interest/background in econ, barely ever read, and got an A. Just pay attention to lectures and ask questions after class if you are confused. His tests have options, so he allows you to answer the type of questions that best allow you to demonstrate your learning. Best professor I've ever had.
He's a really nice guy. His lectures aren't always that clear, but he really helps at office hours. Your grade is 4 tests and several in-class group assignments. The tests are really hard, but then again, economics in general is hard. He gives out a fair amount of extra credit, though. I'd recommend him.
Not as hard as they say. You just have to actually do the work and keep up. You will learn more in this class than others. Also, he doesn't put up with excuses and doesn't listen to fast-talking, which I personally liked. Good professor.
overall great guy who wants you to do well. knows how to relate everything to make it easier to understand. Tests are challenging and since four of them including the final are 90% of your grade, failing one can hurt you bad.
Brunton or "Bruceeee" is an awesome person. Very caring and funny and nerdy, but worth taking! Econ 365 is interesting and he is very enthusiastic. A lot of reading, but you learn a lot. Tests are difficult, but if you put in the effort and read you will do great! I love Bruce.
This is my favorite professor at JMU. He may sound a bit monotone, but he is really easy to understand. He is the most knowledgeable microeconomics professor ever. Will use analogies to help you understand the subject. Also uses group work and has pop quizzes. A+ 5 star professor
Says that to study you should use MyEconLab but in reality bases little to none of the test off of it. Vague review sheet. Not recommended.
Econ is going to be pretty hard no matter the professor. Brunton tries his best to make it a little less stressful. Study guides for EVERY test, including the final. The final was NOT cumulative. Probably one of the easiest micro professors! Strongly recommend!
He 's a nice professor and is willing to help . But trust me , if you are NOT Business major , this class will be a challenge for you . I read everything he required and studied for hours each week . SERIOUSLY , don't take this class or you will regret . I have A in math and pretty much B in every subject but this grade shrinks my GPA
I ended up withdrawal the class. However, half of his sections withdrawal. His tests are 90% of the class which are hard and 60$ for myeconlab is a waste! You have to work hard to get a B- He never answers questions right away. He likes to jump around.
Dr. Brunton is a very good professor. I had him for Micro and got an A. I did study hard and read before class but if you're not willing to work for it you won't get it. ECON is not an easy subject but he is good at teaching and available to talk to during office hours. Study guides are very useful! Do all of them and you'll be fine.
micro is a hard class, regardless of who you get. Brunton, i thought, explained every so clearly and I thought i always knew the information so well. BUT HIS TESTS ARE ACTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE. they are terribly worded. take someone else before you take him, but he's not 100 terrible. i got a terrible grade, and i got an A in macro.
This class was hard and he was a bit confusing sometimes. He made us work in groups which can help or hurt you. His tests are awesome because he gives you different choices about how you take your test (i.e. You can either take a test that is full multiple choice, or multiple choice and an essay.) Tough but that's Econ. for you.
9-10 Quizzes, which are online + in class group assignments. Only your top 5 count. Tests are (fairly) easy if you've done the readings and pay attention. Getting an A in this class is not particularly difficult in my opinion, but some of my group members would disagree ardently. YOU DO NOT NEED THE MOST RECENT EDITION OF THE TEXTBOOK. SAVE YOUR $$
ECON is a struggle for me, but Dr. Brunton couldn't have been a better professor. Even though I didn't like the class because of the material, he was super nice and casual, and explained things pretty well. He's awesome.
Final is impossible and it will crush your grade even if you study a lot. Seems annoyed when you come for office hours. No one is engaged in class because he is so boring
This class was worthless. Brunton seemed not to care about it at all. Extremely unorganized, ridiculous amount of readings (you cannot possibly read all of them), covers information that will not help you impress employers or understand markets, tests focus on your ability to memorize tons of information as opposed developing skills.
Economic History was a great class. 3 Tests and and 3 papers. Expect to do a LOT of reading. Brunton provides a study guide and puts his notes on Canvas. Great professor and very helpful at teaching such an expansive topic.
Microecon is hard to begin with, but Brunton did a pretty good job of explaining most concepts. There's group work every week (graded) and the exams are extremely hard (both MC and short answers). Online HW is assigned every other week and reading the textbook would be helpful in grasping these difficult concepts.
he was a very nice guy, but his tests are impossible and it is a very hard class to get an A in. I studied for a whole week before each of his tests and still failed them! There are group assignments/ at home assignments almost every week that are also pretty difficult.
Professor Brunton leads a very challenging class, but he is very fair and offers help if you ask him. He helped me out on a few assignments I missed or did poorly on. He's also just a nice guy and will talk your ear off in office hours if you give him the chance. If you're looking to learn and be challenged, take this class but it is hard.
This professor is so sweet and he's a great professor. He knows how to teach and how to get the students to understand what he's taught. You are assigned to a group at the beginning of the semester and you will work with them on assignments throughout. The assignments aren't that hard, and the tests are a little difficult but not too challenging.
Had bruce for econ 201, very hard class for me personally. Worked my ass off and ended up with a C. A lot of your grade come from groups he puts you in so if you have a bad group your grade will suffer. Really textbook heavy but overall a nice guy. I think you really need to like econ to do well or just be smart
do NOT take this class if you have not taken an economics class. Also Bruce Brunton is a TERRIBLE professor. His lectures are SO BORING, Assignments are HARD, and TEST are HARD. He is unorganized and is so monotone and there is too much reading. I ended up dropping his class and using a W. I hate this class and I would NOT take it with Brunton.
Only grades are tests and these group assignments that are very difficult, in addition to the fact that you may get a bad group. Tests are very difficult, even more so when his review sheet only matches up with half of what's on the test. The guy is pretty nice, but definitely does not care about the students. Got a B in Macro, but dropped this.
Bruntons class was challenging and time consuming. Make sure you get the textbook and read/take notes before coming to class, especially before an assignment. His tests are hard but if you do practice problems on myeconlab it will help a lot. Talk to him if you have any questions, he definitely wants all of his students to do well
A solid professor for Micro. Was a little dry with the lectures but gives you assignments the mimic test questions and a study guide of exactly whats on the test. Not an easy class but gives you the tools to do well. He also explains concepts well.
Great professor for micro, explains material very well. Not an easy class, so he still is difficult but gives group assignments and some extra credit. Go to review sessions for tests.
3 tests, 2 short papers, and 1 long. He grades them very harshly and is little to no help outside of class. He is clearly interested in teaching the topic, but not interested in grading as it took over a month to get assignments back and it's difficult to know where you stand in the class. Can't recommend taking this class.
Professor is solid professor. I would highly recommend going to class, even though attendance isn't mandatory. He gives examples during class that are very similar to problems on tests. Test are 30Q multiple choice with an option to do a short answer or 10 more multiple choice. Def use the online study material, bc ALOT it is used on the tests!!
After taking AP Econ in high school, I expected to at least semi understand what was going on in the class, WRONG. One of the hardest classes I have taken at JMU. Go to the PASS sessions, for they are the only thing that will help you do well.
Bruce is very fair. His lectures may only be seen as a supplement to the textbook readings. If you don't read or you don't come to class, YOU WILL FAIL. Go to all the PASS sessions because they look exactly like the exam. Do all the practice problems online before taking the quiz because they are pretty much the same with different numbers.
