I ACTUALLY THINK HE'S THE ONE THAT MADE MATH HARDER FOR ME. AND I THOUGHT I COULD PASS
He is the worst math teacher, I have ever had. He did'nt give me an A for half point. I got a B in his class, but it is not because he is a good teacher, it is because I am good at math. He does'nt explain anything at all. You have study by yourself.
Don't ever bother to consider taking him. Just don't. Trust me. He tries to make math 130 seem as challenging as taking advanced calculus. He is very unclear when teaching. Recommend Killian,Rosenberg,or Bortis.
he tries to make kath more compledx than it already is. don't waste your time or money
Eventhough he is very strict, I found that he can be a really nice guy if you ask him for help outside of class. He just doesn't believing in holding up an entire class for one person's question. But I agree, he tends to challenge you more than is necessary.
This teacher came in as a sub. for my Math class, and he sucked. Math was hard enough, but he made it harder. Please, I beg anyone who reads this not to take him. If you take this teacher, it will come back to bit you in the ass.

he straight up is the hardest worst teacher out there, and even if youre taking the easiest classes he makes them very hard.you will hate your life and want to drop out of college after his class,if you take him in your first semester your motivation will be screwed for the rest of your school life
NOT GOOD AT CLARIFYING WHAT HE IS TRYING TO GET ACROSS. MAKES A LOT OF MISTAKES WHEN TEACHING NEW LESSONS. IF YOU THINK A MISTAKE HAS BEEN MADE ON YOUR GRADE GO IN AND DOUBLE CHECK BECAUSE YOU'RE PROBABLY RIGHT.
Good professor. Keeps students on their feet. Lazy students don't like him.
no one in my class got an A. only 2 girls got a B and everyone else failed and a few got c's and d's... worst teacher on campus and i have taken 88 units so i know teachers. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.. CHAFEE ..GO RETIRE
this man is strange ..his teaching method is not that great and trust me if you do past his class you wont learn anything...
The class was interesting, but that might have been because of the people. But, if you don't have to take the class, don't take it!! The information given was hard, but he did an ok job teaching it. Tests were hard and long, but he did prepare you with practice tests. It just matter whether or not you completed the practice test or not, because
Chaffee is very strict, but he's a great professor. Makes mathematics fun and easy. If you are lazy, or don't like to participate in class, don't get Chaffee as your professor or he'll make you look silly.

Mr. Chaffee is an easy happy-go-lucky kind of guy. However, math 110 was very difficult for me because he explains the material but he expects u to learn it from one day to the next...like as soon he finishes writting an example...by the time you finished copying it down, he has already moved on to another example. But other than that his class is pretty hilarious and you should think twice about choosing him.

The worst teacher in the college, his class is easy but he makes it as difficult as possible for anyone to pass. he dislikes his students and wants them to fail. takes his anger out on us. very bad. 23 students dropped the class so that proves my point. i stayed and still got an F
If your lazy, I recommend that you don't take his class because he gives out a lot of homework and goes through the lesson quickly. However, if you pay attention and do all your work, you will do just fine.
Dr. Chaffee is not an easy teacher, but he makes algebra easy. If you listen in his class, do the work assigned and most importantly, do the practice tests, the class is easy. If you do not do the above, you fail. That is not the instructor's choice, it is yours. GREAT TEACHER!!
Dr. Chaffee is sweet! He straight up assumes we're all retards. I won a dollar from him because he bet that nobody in the class knew what the inverse of y=e^x was. He was so angry! It was great! And, come on, the dude wears a fanny pack...you gotta appreciate that.
this guy is more interested in showing you that he knows more than you and has no problem embarassing you about it. ugghh... the worst teacher i've ever had. i don't even think he should be called a teacher. seriously, DON'T TAKE THIS GUY!! EVEN IF YOU NEED THIS CLASS, DON'T TAKE HIM!!
THIS GUY GREAT! HE REALLY DOES HELP YOU IF YOU ASK... HONESTLY, HE FINDS EASY WAYS TO TEACH AND EXPLAIN THE "HARD" STUFF... IM NOT A MATH PERSON BUT YOU FEEL LIKE ONE IN HIS CLASS... PLUS THE PRACTICE TEST HE GIVES HELP U SOOO MUCH BECAUSE YOU'LL KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT ON TE TEST...DUH...TAKE HIM!!! BUT ASK ALOT OF QUESTIONS, I RECOMEND IT!
He is horrible, he teaches and covers what he's writing with his body and then eraseses it then moves on and continues this practice. Hard to learn because he kinda of errogant and really doesn't like to answer questions. He lets you know he went to STANFORD.
he was really funny, kind of dorky.. he kept interesting.. he explained everything really well.
He's ok. Takes his time with the first few chapters then rushes through the rest of it. Tests are not hard and if you get an A on the first 3 or 4, you don't have to take the final.
first of all, he doesnt care about roll!.. second,he is really good at explaing things and he takes the time to show u so u understand especially with homework problems. and if u understand his examples then pretty much ur going to do good on the test bc theyre just the same questions with different numbers! hes cool
He's great! He is very helpful and if you have a question he has no problem explaining it to you. The pratice test really helped he says "if you don't pass the test with a B or better, you should be mad at me." So make sure you do your practice test and understand them; you'll easily get an A. I did.
Teaches well, and explains things fully if you didn't get it the first time around. Grades pretty good and fairly.
This teacher is incredible. At first for me this was like a foreign language, to get an A, just follow these steps. Do ALL homework assignments and ALL practice tests, show up everyday and pay attention. He does the rest!! Really !!!
Great teacher. Do the homework. Final is taken from chapter quizzes. He won't move on until everyone understands. If you get an "A" on all quizzes, then you don't have to take the final. Very clear, concise instructor. Makes math fun and easy.
I have never in my life been good at math. But Mr. Chaffee made math very easy for me to understand. He is awsome! As long as you show up to class & pay attention, it's easy to pass. But he expects you to work! If you are lazy don't take him, you won't like him. If you are willing to actually LEARN something, then it will be easy for you to pass.
THIS TEACHER IS HORRIBLE...DO NOT TAKE HIM...HE MAKES NO SENSE AND LOVES TO PLAY WITH CALCULATORS ALL DAYY! HE DOESNT EVEN MAKE NOTES ON THA BOARD AND STILL EXPECTS YOU TO FOLLOW ALONG...DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! HE SUCKZ!
chaffee does not teach anything during class. he never wants to give u an easy way of doin the problem. he says rules are stupid so u have to know why exactly that is the right answer. not a great teacher at all!
I dont know what other people are whining about. He is funny and has no problem answering questions and stoping the class to help others. Moves at a nice pace and if you ask to take a break, he lets you.
I have no idea why these idiots r saying he is good. He is awful. He sucks at lectures and does not give you any notes. Do NOT take this teacher unless you wanna hear a guy that loves to hear his own voice all class...
Not a hard teacher but a very boring one. Makes attending class miserable but if you want a pretty easy A then take him. Even his voice annoys the crap out of me and he also can't refrain from asking "WHY" on anything he can. So annoying.
He's really funny...seriously!! He's a tall geeky man. He hardly collects homework. He goes over every single problem on the practice test so you can study all the right answers and sometines even uses some of those problems on the tests. He always askes if you understand or need more clarity! JUST BE PATIENT!!!
Mr.Chaffee is a real good teacher. He is awsome! Take him, must pay attention! He sometimes goes fast but if you ask for an explanation he gives it to you. Not easy, but very helpful taking him again for Math 130 for sure. && Hes always happy to help during office hours! Great help. Your awsome Mr. Chaffee!
He's an alright teacher. he teaches at a pretty face pace. i had to really focus in order to understand. really helpful just raise your hand and he'll answer. it seems like math is his life cause he actually knows his stuff and kinda expects everyone else to know it as well cause he skips in between steps. other than that he's an alright professor.
He's a really helpful math teacher and is willing to do anything he can so that his students understand the material. if you get all As on all the tests, then you don't have to take the final. he gives you excellent notes, does all the practice test problems for you, and make it really easy to prepare for the test so you know what will be on it.
For all those complaining about Mr Chaffee always asking "why?" The reason he does this is so that, not only do you know what to do, but you know WHY you are doing it. I finally understand math! I am very grateful for him asking "why?" If you want to actually LEARN something, take Mr. Chaffee. He's a great teacher.
A highly recommended teacher for Math majors; he not only teaches how to do problems in math but why your are doing them as well. Nevertheless, if math is not your strong subject like myself you'll do fine with him as well, he tries his best to not let anyone fall behind and offers extra credit in his tests which I've found other math teachers don'
If you struggle with Math at all, this is NOT the teacher for you. I wish I had read reviews before signing up to take his class. He goes super fast and tends to act like a pompus jerk. I went to his office and asked what he could do to help me understand better and his response was that I should drop the class and take it another semester. Unreal.
He is one the best math teacher's and I was content to take him during the summer. He is extremely helpful and cares about his students who has the desire to learn and pass this course. He gives out practice test sheets to study for the exam and if your lucky enough to pass all exams with A+'s you don't have to take the final. He is also generous
Very direct about what he wants from you, and what will be on the test. He tries very hard to make everything clear and easy.
This teacher is AWESOME, whether ur taking him for math 110 or 130, he is easy. He does not check h.w(other student do it).he has practice test that are 98% similar to the exams, plus they are worth pts if u do them. E.C is available by doing DLA's. Final is not necessarily to be taken if you pass all 4 exams wit an A.
This guy rushes his lessons too fast, he answers questions when your struggling, lots of quizzes, hw is check by classmates, test and exams are worth a bunch, if you get an answer right or wrong he always ask for an explanation, only take if you know your math pretty well... He can be confusing at times as well
This guy will not give any credit to a correct answer that uses a different set up than what he shows in class. He is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life.
Chaffee came off as a jerk at first, but he's a funny professors. Though, I had a difficult time understanding his lectures. He goes way too fast, unless questions are asked. I HATE it when he picks on his students, one of the many reasons why I didn't attend to class, much. I wouldn't recommend him if you are shy.
Do not take this class if you do not already know all of the course material. You will not learn anything because he goes way too fast through every lesson. He patronizes students who ask questions and merely giving him the right answer isn't good enough. Don't take this teacher if you want to learn anything worthwhile.
He is rude, disrespectful, and useless. When we had questions, he made us feel stupid. He doesn't help you at all. Don't bother using your text. If you don't put your answers the way he tells you, he marks them wrong even if they are right. Doesn't explain things well and confuses you more. Only take this class if you already know the subject
Everyone just loves chaffee's classes! I definately recomend him if you want to learn everything about math.
He is very helpful. 4 exams, homeworks, practice quizz and 1 final. If you get A on all exams (4), you will be excused from the final and recieve an A in this class. Do practice quizz many times! It will help your exams. Good luck! If you do not take his class, I feel sorry about that.
I recomend Chaffee. He is the most helpful when learning math. He gives practice quizes and goes over them. He has office hours too. Take Chaffee.
Hes hard. If you arent good in math dont take him. He needs an explanation for every answer you give. Way too much work in the class. Tests are hard. Way too much word problems. If you are really dedicated take him, if you are not dont waste your time. Worst math teacher I had everrr.
amazing teacher! i got an A, and i took him in the summer!so if that is possible Duh u can get an A in a regular school year.idk what these other people are saying, they just didnt try.the only thing he demands is that u try and do the work and actually study! like any class...
Don't take this class if your lazy if your looking to continue in math take him every chance you get. I haven't done anything math related for almost 5 years took him in the summer and did every well learning a bunch of rules is pointless he teaches why math is the way it is so when your done with the class math is like riding a bike
Chaffee is not the easiest teacher in the world. However, if you study up on the material, do the practice exams, and ask questions you will do just fine.
I was recommended to chaffee by another professor. If math isn't your thing, he will probably change your mind. He is very helpful and explains problems step by step for any situation. I am enrolled into his fall 2010 precal class. I can't wait to get started. His only thing is that you believe in yourself and go 100% while in his classroom.
I think teacher is the worst math teacher I have ever taken...if your work is not neat and you get the right answer on a test you will receive no credit for that test problem...I took him for math 45 and dropped him after the first test... I had a D on my first test he marked 3 answers wrong because my handwriting is not neat...when I disputed my t
I really like taking this class because of how the professor explain everything. Yeah, he gives EVERY detail, but honestly it's really helpful & it makes MORE sense that way. Some teachers will TELL you somethine, but never EXPLAIN the concept. But, this professor will do all that & more. The thing is, to pass his class, you have to be there.
HE IS A GOOD TEACHER, BUT IT IS A REALLY HARD CLASS. IF U ARE GOOD W MATH TAKE HIM... IF NOT JUST DONT TAKE IT W HIM. HE GIVES PRACTICE EXAMS :)
Had him for math 45 & 110. Can't believe these negative post. Some dont respond to his teaching method b/c its not formal. This guy teaches math in simple/unconventional/"for dummies" style, I loved it. Dont let demeanor scare you, the key is for a live class(always asking questions/joking/engaged). Do all HW/practice test/study. You should get A.
Don't her class is too rush for adults learners. Take Simone or some one else trust me. But if you have some potential, he is might be okay for you. But for me no, he is way too fast.
Best math teacher I have ever had. I am not good at math at all, math to me is like teaching a dog to pilot an airplane. But I got A's on all of his tests and he explains everything perfectly. He also gives many chances for extra credit.
Avoid this teacher. His teaching pace is too fast, even when you ask him to slow down. His tests are incredibly difficult. The homework from the book does not always prepare you for his tests. I spent a lot of time with the school tutors this semester. I?ve received A?s in all my other math classes and was fortunate to come out with a B this time.
The class is really fast paced so if you are unfamiliar with algebra, i might suggest taking the course in two segments with someone else. Overall, Mr. Chaffee is a genius when it comes to math, and his teachings make me feel prepared enough to pursue calculus! If you wish to succeed, ask questions!
I wouldn't take this professor if you weren't determined to do some math. He doesn't slack... He goes fast unless you ask questions, so ask away...remain silent at your own peril, and it shall be perilous. If you know what to ask he can be one of the best teachers you or I have ever had. Nuff said
He just restates the example problems from the book, so there is no point of going to class if he just does the EXACT problems from the book. might as well just read it yourself! he includes unnecessary info during the process of teaching How to do the problem. His teaching method is just terrible.
If youre not a math major or isnt remotely interested in learning math then dont take him. Hes harsh on his student because he wants you to learn, if you dont understand anything from the lecture his office hours are free. Hes blunt and isnt scared to call you out. teaches from the book so be prepared before class.
I do not trust how he grade things or put in grades. Also, he always forget things, especially homeworks. I did all my work, homework, pass all my exams, completed all my DLAs, and went to class on time everyday...and I don't understand the grade I received. Be sure to check up with him OFTEN about your grade.
His class isn't easy, he actually teaches and cares about teaching. He's not for the lazy students who just want to sit in the back and get bad grades and someone how still pass, he actually makes sure everything and everyone tries their best. I got an A and I genuinely hate math I was surprised. But he is a great professor in a hard way.
He's one of the best math teachers I've ever had. He takes the time to explain a problem and gives a lot of extra credit on tests. This is a man that knows how to teach.
Do not take him, especially if you struggle in math. He is not clear on how to solve the problem. He will give you one or two steps and then let you figure the rest of the equation out on your own. He also constantly asks you why, and he picks on you if you do not know the answer. He also gives lots of word problems on the test.
He does not take the time to go over any questions you have. He puts you on the spot when you are clearly struggling. He teases you until you finally give up. If you want to go over a problem from the homework, he says he does not have the class time to explain. Not a good teacher if you need clarification. Do not take if you struggle in math!
I really enjoyed this class. Mr. Chaffee is cool as long as you take the class seriously. Its not an easy class. Very very fast pace, but thats why its offered in sections. If your not good at math or willing to do lots of homework, then don't take this class. But as a teacher I really enjoyed being in Mr. Chaffee's class.
Great math professor! AND you can actually understand him unlike the foreign math professors that work there. You have get double and triple extra credit on some of his exams and if you get A's on all the exams you dont have to take the final. DO HW!!! that is said for any math class though.
Enter class with an open mind. He's a good instructor in the sense that you will learn what you need to learn, but he wont give it to you for free.It doesnt mean he wont help you and make sure you're understanding.Hes very nice about questions and thorough with explanations.I would definitely take all math classes with him if i could
Only checked homework once. Had to buy $100 calculator, but was only Able to use it once. The examples he uses from book are easy, but the problems on the exams are extremely hard and tricky. I was a straight A student until this class. One exam only 15 out 52 passed.
Good instructor. Expects students to take responsibility for their own learning by doing hw and asking questions. Do not expect to get an A if you don't do the hw even though he doesn't check it for credit. Will not do makeup tests. Lots of pop and announced quizzes. Uses quizzes and practice test questions on exams.
Don't buy the book, it's useless now that they do everything online using pearsons. MyMathLab will dominiate your life in this class. Chaffee is a math geek so it's great for learning, but you have to be an incredibly good student to pass. Do all the homework, study from the practice exams/quizes and don't sit in the BACK!
He is a nice guy and very funny, but a bad teacher. He gets off track a lot and bounces around topics. His tests are hard. If you have some trouble with math I don't suggest taking his class. All the home work was online which was very annoying and confusing.
this professor is really nice but he expects his students to be highly good at math. If you have trouble understanding math DON'T TAKE HIM... he is really fast when he teaches.
Chaffee is a great professor! He explains everything really well and tells you exactly what he expects! Double and triple extra credit on some exams. He really wants his students to succeed and you can tell he loves what he does. I would recommend taking his class for sure!
he is a good teacher because he wants everyone to know why math makes sense. he is pretty goofy and you can tell he enjoys teaching. I would recommend him, especially since he speaks english unlike a lot of other math professors at LBCC.
He is pretty cool and helpful, but only if you ask for help. His tests are easy if you attend class and pay attention, he doesn't try to trick students.
He's a cool guy. The key to his class is to pay attention the whole time, and be present! if you miss a day or get distracted you're doomed. I was doing great and then I started sitting at the back and my grade went down to a C. So make sure you pay attention and do your homework!
mr. Chaffee is really nice and helpful professor. Math classes are never easy if we do not pay enough attention. do all homework. Come to see him in his office hours to clarify your problems. you will be fine. He is always willing and patient to explain anything to his students. He is one of my best professor in LBCC.
Awful. If you ask for clarification he will respond with sarcasm and confuse you even further. Words cannot express how horrible of a professor I think he is.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! he sucks at grading he droped me because he messed with my grade and told me I didnt turn anything in. He doesn't even know his students by name. He always has a smart comment if your asking for help. AGAIN DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Hes a good but not organized as well like NO SYBULLUS to let people know. he didnt mention about turn in homework and I missed part. also He end up little mess up with three exam within one week for final exam. If you want to take this and you have to very serious about this class..
I really liked mr. Chaffee he always toke the time to help u understand. If u didn't like him it's because u dont understand that he teaches so that u will be able to pass math 130.
He classes goes by quick.one chapter a week.he doesn't allow calculators.he is very rude and has a smart mouth.he do give the option of extra credit on the exams.only take his class if you are serious because if you don't understand math you will be lost..
I took him for trig, precal, and cal. If you get an A on all tests you don't have to take a final!!! Just work hard, pace yourself and no stressful final! He's a good teacher, the negative comments are from slackers. Take advantage of Supplemental Instruction if it's available. It's the reason I got an A every time.
I took him for Pre-Calc and I found him super funny. He's mean, but he's hilarious at it. His lectures are clear and precise, and his homework really does help with the tests. Also if you pass all four exams during the semester; you won't have to do the final. Pretty sweet deal, well for those who got it.
