New professor...very knowledgeable and helpful. You can tell he really likes what he does. No tests...take him if you like writing short papers. I recommend him.
Awesome professor. A lot of reading involved but only two tests a year - midterm and final with a few two-page papers during the semester. Class is mainly lecture but his good sense of humor makes it interesting in the end. Definitely recommend him for any class!
Great professor, very fair, listens to students.
Does have favorites, and comes down hard on who he doesn't like. Having said that, as long as you had things in on time you'll have a B. plus he assigns assignments that back up your main paper, so u dont cram it all down the last nite. So when he's not fair, he is relatively easy. Humors off but ok
Take him for 302 if you like working on your paper throughout the semester, not just cramming it all in at the end. He makes those 30 pages easy to write, and he gives excellent clear comments on proposals and during discussion
i took him for world civ and i had problems with my thesis statement and he didn't really help me at all.
hes boring
Erickson is one of those teachers that everyone should be required to take, however people are so scared about their GPAs they never will. He's decent, a real passion for what he teachers, he's actually been to some of these countries during revolution so he's got alot of cool accounds and firsthand stories. I'd advise everyone to take him
Awesome and fun.
Extremely well versed in the subject. Has great stories. Very helpful to students. Fantastic lectures.
good teacher, but if you think you're just going to get by doing nothing, think again.. lot of essays, which I failed all of them... not a facts guy, more into material, so ****ting is not the way to go... good luck, you'll need it.
I think he is a very hard teacher. He likes to go off on little stories very easy to get lost in class. Your research paper is worth alot of your grade and he is a very very very hard grader. class can get really boring.
horrible teacher! dont take him! he expects too much out of his students. i dropped him the second class
He is not very helpful. You are graded on how well your opinions go along with his. He is very pompous and much of his teaching is irrelevant personal stories.
Terrible tracher!!! Completely avoid taking a class with him. Class lectures are irrelevant to any papers. Expects too many papers-I had more work for this class than all my other classes combined!!
Must be hate on bruce Professor erickson year. I took him for Latin American His 1825+ and he was awesome. He is a very hard professor and demands a lot out of his students but he isn't one of them that refuses to give an A in his courses. This man knows his stuff like no others. If your not afraid to work and want to learn alot then def take hi
I hate him.
This professor was a jerk, and very arrogant. Grades hard, and hates young people.
Bruce isn't as bad as everyone says. He is hard, and requires work and grades hard, so if that's not your deal don't take him. He gives excellent notes and review sheets. Requires more papers than tests/quizzes. If you do the requirements he's not that bad, it just is work and he grades hard.
he is horrible
Ok, obviously freshmen hate him. but seriously, if you really want to challenge yourself academically, take his classes. He'll absolutely kick your butt because he is a genius but in the process you'll learn how to work...really hard. If you aren't willing to work, then safe yourself (and your GPA) the effort
he is a great teacher, knows SOO much information. And when he dosn't know the answer he will deffinatly go find it. It is NOT a difficult class just challenging but after taking a class that I could sleep through last semester he is a nice change, he keeps you intrigued
He's definitely a good professor and knows what he's talking about. He asks alot from you but it pays off. I would recommend him to any freshman.
requires a lot of reading and grades toughly. most material is uninteresting and students are very limited on topics for the research paper.
Strict about participation, marks down whenever you participate and to what level (like answer a question, ask a question, etc.) You need to read for this class in order to do well. Overall a good professor, just a little demanding.
Knows his stuff, but not helpful at all. Attendance is required and is a perfectionist when it comes to assignments. Quizzes are easy and he expects you to read the textbook even though none of it is brought up in class. A good challenge, but shouldn't be your first choice.
This professor is one of the best professors I've had as a freshmen. I went into his class thinking that it was just going to be awful, but I love it. Definitely a hard grader. Participation is a must, but he definitely loves what he's teaching. Great professor!
Hardest professor I have had in my 3 years of college. Do not take him if you are bad at pop quizzes or do not like to participate. You have to read the whole text book and nothing he talks about in class really goes along with what you are reading. Do not take him if you want to keep a high GPA, his class alone made mine drop almost two points
I've taken two classes with Bruce. My initial impression was that he was a massive jerk but after taking 302 with I've changed my mind. He is a very tough grader but if you meet with him independently he is very helpful. His problem is he doesn't come across as being very approachable but if you do seek him out you will do well!
He is such a tough grader and class lectures are not helpful! I read the book and tried to take good notes in class and still did not do well. He mostly just talks instead of teaches. do not take him if you don't like history to begin with
I loved Erickson. He loves to make jokes throughout his lectures and is a nice and entertaining guy. He is extremely knowledgeable about Latin American history. Expects students to participate. The class is a lot of work though. Two group research presentations, a 10-pg research paper, and a 5-pg final essay make up most of the grade.
This was the third class i took with Erickson. tough grader and assigns a lot of online readings. if you just skim them over and contribute one thing during class your fine. he loves class participation and it boosts your grade up if your down near the end of the semester. group project and paper instead of a final. tough prof but not the worst.
Dr. Erickson is the most arrogant human being I've ever met. He's a good professor and you will learn in his class, but he could not be any more rude to his students. I consistently tried to be kind to him, say hi in the halls, talk to him before or after class...nope. He doesn't belong at a school like Le Moyne.
Erickson is extremely intelligent, but don't worry he will be sure to let you know that. He is the hardest and most arrogant professor I have come across. If he doesn't personally like you just drop the class, or he will make sure your grade suffers. AVOID AT ALL COST!!
Not encouraging! Very rude at times, especially if you are simply asking a question in class to clarify. He takes attendance every class time. He also keeps a note pad of how many times you speak, for participation points. You have to pay real close attention to the reading to do well . There is only one book, however many online readings.
Bruce Erickson is the worst teacher I've ever had. He attempts to make witty jokes but instead just mumbles to himself. The material he covers is pointless, when would you ever need to know about porcelain in the Qin dynasty? Hard grader, and if you don't speak in class, your grade will be terrible. I dreaded going to his class everyday. AVOID HIM.
Erickson is very full of himself. Your grade is heavily dependent on class participation - he records who talks. The problem is, he mainly lectures so it really doesn't make any sense. He'll talk for fifteen minutes ask a question and keep going. How can your grade in a lecture class be based on participation: He does all the talking.
Would always go ask him for help and he would give me feedback but then i would do what he told me to do and then he would just make fun of my work. Very, very arrogant. Avoid him as a professor.
Make sure you speak at least once every single class because participation is 20% of your grade. He assigns a boatload of reading every week, most of which is quite boring. He is one of the toughest graders I've encountered at Le Moyne so far and really makes you work for anything above a C. Interesting guy but would not recommend.
Bruce Erickson is a pathetic professor that should be fired! He is the worst professor on Le Moyne campus. He expects way too much from his students and his class is equivalent to a history course at Harvard. Everyone knows it sucks to do the work for a course and continuously get bashed on. I've always been an A student and he's one to Avoid!!!!
Erickson is very full of himself. We are writing a research paper and he tears your thesis right apart. Participation is a must! Talks down to students and thinks his view on history is the only view. 400 level work for a 100 level class. Avoid at all costs.
Horrible! The reading was excessive and not necessary. I'm a good student and he made me feel bad about my abilities. Condescending about everything. His lectures would have been more interesting (I love history & he knows his stuff) if I weren't so sad in his class. Must participate but will be told your opinion or interpretation is wrong.
He's a nice guy but his class is tough. WAY to much reading and to many papers for a 100 level course. Interesting class but the course-load is just way to much and his expectations are too high. Don't talk? You won't pass. He doesn't give out A's, so get ready to work hard for your B. Just a midterm and a final for everything that's covered....
I earned an A in Erickson's class. However, I had to put in more work than I put in for my biology classes in order to do so! Treats his students like they're going for a PhD in history... You must participate every single class and it needs to be a correct statement to count. He is very rude to students who do not say exactly what he wants. AVOID!
Saying that Erickson is not a superb instructor is an understatement, he is absolutely the worst professor I have ever met!!! I'm taking Erickson's Coca section and I absolutely hate it; it was either his section or Zens, and quite frankly I despise both gentlemen, but I rather take Erickson over Zens, at least Erickson's section is interesting.
Makes his students feel as though they're lesser than him. Loves to humiliate all who have diverging opinions, especially his students. Professor Erickson loves compiling papers, essays, discussions, and quizzes on top of one another not to envoke inquiry, but to bring forth frustration! I pity the history majors who had to take him at one point.
He's a nice guy, but should've chosen another profession. Extremely nit-picky, and only talks about areas of the world in which he is interested. The way he teaches you'd think it is a Latin American History course, not World History. Participation is a giant chunk of the grade, but you sit there for the entire class while he talks nonstop.
Worst professor at Le Moyne hands down. If you have him switch out immediately you will not get above a C in his class. Does not know the proper way to teach, and acts as if he is above all of his students. Participation is a must but barley gives his students opportunities to talk.
This Dude will smile in your face while he insults you. He is a vet but acts like he hates America. He is so many things that you can't say in civilized company. In short he is a terrible Professor who thinks he is better than everyone else.
Very condescending and expects too much out of his students, especially for a 100 course
He will assign way too many things at once. He has a book essay and a final due in the same week. Gives study guides for midterm and final which is helpful. Will call on you randomly and gives out pop quizzes. You have to read a lot, textbook chapters and other documents all must be read to answer 5 multiple choice questions.
For this class being a non-major requirement, it is a lot of work and I recommend that you take a different class instead. If you don't attend class or miss a class you may miss crucial information for a pop quiz or exam. The tests are take home, but I don't know anyone who did well on them. The class itself was intriguing however grading was harsh
Erickson would be an OK teacher if he wasn't so arrogant and disrespectful towards his students. Grades really hard for a class that is mandatory. Just wait and take this class with a different prof.
2 book essays, 1 research paper, a midterm, and a final. I did OK in this class but not as well as I hoped to, considering how hard I worked and how much time I put into my writing and studying. Hes a very picky grader and condescending. If you can find another professor, try, if not work hard, you will get through it, but it might suck.
2 book essays, research paper, midterm, final. Very condescending and tough grader. Pop quizzes based on readings, hard even if you read completely. Not very helpful but still go in for office hours so that he can see that you try. If you can find another professor, try. If not, youll get through, but it will suck.
Very boring I suggest finding a different professor.
I think Dr. Erickson is a nice guy, but his class was really hard. Long, boring, and tangential readings and lectures. Participation matters, but he talks a lot. He wants to see you make a clear effort. Only take his class if you have a good grasp on history and are ready to work hard outside of class and look things from readings/lectures up.
lectures are very long and boring , his teaching style needs to change . you need to read the chapter before each class and participation does matter a lot in his class for your grade if not he will call on random people. just switch if you get him
Professor Erickson can be tough around the edges but is willing to help students do well in the class. He gave extra credit for people to raise their grades and is a big help during office hours. If you participate and go to class and office hours you'll do great.
Not very helpful, respectful or understanding. Class participation is a must but get ready for long lectures. If you need help, he will probably act like you're an idiot an will not be very willing to help you with anything or explain anything to you.
This was easily one of my favorite classes I have ever taken at Le Moyne. Very informative and understanding Professor if you reach out ahead of time.
This professor called my class all “privilege brats” and said he can tell who’s parents pay for their college. He is a very rude professor.
avoid at all costs
If you aren't good at history do not bother having him as a teacher. He most certainly has favorites in the class. As a nursing student who only needs to pass this class because it is required, I personally would not recommend this teacher by any means.
Professor Erickson might just be the worst professor Le Moyne has to offer. Conceited, condescending, all mixed in with tangential lectures and unclear grading. I pity anyone who has to take him.
Professor Erickson is definitely a good person outside the classroom, but as a professor he might be the worst I have ever had. I would recommend finding a different professor if you get him
Assigns excessive readings and expects frequent participation (25% of the grade). Grading and feedback on essays or assignments not always clear - sometimes seem made up. Very lecture heavy, PowerPoints frequently confusing or vague (not good if you haven't been introduced to the topic before).
Not that bad. Slides get really confusing at times, but if you have the high school basics it should be easy enough to understand. Expect a few pop quizzes every month. Study guide is helpful. Research paper due at end of semester. Probably won't take again since it's not my major, but not as bad as people say.
Avoid at all costs. Do not take. He would switch between 4-5 powerpoints in one class and the slides only had names and dates on them, no real content. He expected us to read 5-6 books for class, but never really talked about them in class. His participation grading is completely made up and he is very unclear about how he grades.
No just no
If you don't do the reading (not a lot), you'll struggle. Participation is important in his class bc it takes a % of your grade, just do the reading and answer questions, they're not hard. There aren't many assignments except for research-based ones which are part of your final project, so be sure to do well on that bc it takes a lot of points.
Honestly, I loved having Professor Erickson for World Civ. I! During the time I had him, I felt that he gave opportunities for people to participate, while also being able to successfully lecture and get notes across for us to write. Keep up with reading, Prepare for exams with his study guides & your notes, and Stick to the Final Paper schedule!
Professor Erickson is easily my hardest professor to keep my interest. Class is an absolute bore and more than half the students can't even pay attention including me. He is a strict grading outdated professor who is not very forgiving or accommodating. His syllabus speaks for itself. I don't recommend taking him if you want an interesting class.
Nice person, horrible professor. Assigns a book every week, lectures are perfect to fall asleep to. Lecture slides contain 0 relevant information, extremely difficult to know what he wants you to learn. Extremely negative feedback, even on assignments he gives you a good grade on. Passive aggressive, conceited, you have to be his favorite.
Would avoid
would never take again. terrible professor. terrible person. absolutely disrespectful to all students. do not recommend to anybody.
awful professor. he is so conceited, disrespectful to students, no regard for anyone but himself. would not recommend to even the hardest working students. not a fan whatsoever.
Participation is key if you want to do well. He assigns a research project where you have to do an annotated bibliography which it practically impossible. Finding sources is such a pain. His lectures are so boring and the content on the slides does no help when studying. He seems like a fine person but he should not be a teacher.
Tough grader on participation. You can participate every class but if it not the quality he prefers he will give you around a 70% for that. You have to write a 3 page outline for the final project which is very doable but there is also a final and midterm that you will have to study for. Not a very accommodating professor.
His notes have no detail therefore make it difficult to study, if marks u down for leaving class early or leaving to use bathroom, he seems nice just not the type of person open to using a clear helpful teaching method
He gives a pop quiz every Monday. You have minimal assignments other than big ones.
Hated the class, lots of reading and quizzes, need to participate all the time if you want a decent grade
Bruce Erikson is a very tough and brutal professor. He leaves very vague and rude comments on all work turned in. Nice as a person, terrible a professor.
Dont take him.
Erickson is a nice enough person, but not a great professor. He grades very harshly and expects way too much for an intro course. Leaves vague and rude comments on assigments and can be mean to students in class. he definitely speaks his mind. I would avoid him if you can.
Just do yourself a favor and don't take him.
Decent guy, just not very good as a professor in my opinion. Clearly interested in history and has a passion for it, but not very approachable during class or when you need help. Standoffish and very distant, and just forget it if you are trying to interpret feedback on assignments. Exams are straightforward, and he doesn't really play tricks.
Lord Jesus he is such a great person but as a professor I would never take him again. Although he is very thoughful and understanding, he´s teaching method puts me to sleep. Lecture + History = NO
Please don't take this guy as a professor. Don't even bother asking a question in class he will probably laugh. No one was to participate in class because it was just all garbage content. i did a extra credit assignment about 2 pages long and he gave me zero credit for it. Spare yourself, and don't take history with this guy
