One of the best teachers I have- so much fun!
My fav. professor
No Comments
Definately the best EEOB teacher to take.
One of the coolest teachers i have ever had.
He is simply THE BEST!
The most difficult exams that you could imagine. Not for non-majors. This class ruined my semester.
He was a really enthusiastic professor and his enthusiasm really helped to learn some pretty boring material
No Comments
For me, the class is difficult because I suck at science, most people find it easy enough though. Fleury is a really cool teacher who clearly loves his job. Take his class, everyone else at Tulane has at some point.
best teacher tulane has to offer!!!
no need to take notes, they're available online, tries to make class interesting and entertaining and usually succeeds. is also very friendly and receptive to student questions
Excellent teacher. Makes class fun.
Extremely funny, irreverent. With all the notes and slides available to you online, you'd think that I'd never have gone to class. His exuberance and charisma kept me coming back. I even brought people to class with me because it was always hilarious.
its a very easy class if you attend it, and print out terms. he defines the terms in class, all you have to do is study, its all memorization. there are a lot of terms though, so u have to study, but its so direct, you cant. his lectures are entertaining
Entertaining teacher. If you study and can memorize terms, you can't fail this class. Many make A's...
By far the easiest class I have ever taken - no need to buy any books or go to class, everything is online... no papers or essays, everything is multiple choice...just 3 tests and he drops lowest test grade and is actually quite interesting.
I am apparently horrible at science although I never have been in the past. This class was semi difficult for me because he asks for the "best possible answer" when 3-4 Phylas apply. Good Luck.
You never have to go to class (his notes are online) and you can still get an A. You do have to study for tests though, but they are easy if you do, and you are even allowed to drop one.
Oh People were wrong - this class is harder then it sounds. I decline
Fleury is amazing! He is easily one of the best professors I have taken. I don't normally go to any class, but I went to his 2 out of 3 times a week b/c it was worthwhile and never boring (even though he's talking about taxonomy and whatnot).
cool guy - easy class
easy class. don't even have to go! i didn't go to the 3rd set of lectures and took the 3rd test for fun and made a B! Imagine if i actually tried going to class and reading the online lectures! Nice guy. Plays cool music to ease u into class.
Fleury is an animated, engaging lecturer and extremely helpful on a one-on-one basis. Not an automatic 'A' but he makes sure you get through the class alright. Highly recommended.
He tried to make the class interesting, sometimes works sometimes doesnt. i give him kodos trying. if you need EEOB, you dont have a choice but to take him! i highly recommend him! if you study and know the term list, your golden!
HE is so understanding, study for the test and know the term list. The final is the easiest of all the test. Plus fluery is a cool guy.
This was an easy lab, just study for 20 minutes before the quizzes and you'll be fine. No midterm or final. Be sure to take this in the Fall when Fleury teaches it because when Wee teaches it in the Spring it is much more difficult.
Easy class. I stopped going regularly after the first 2 weeks, but went every once in a while because Fleury's lectures are pretty interesting just not so interesting as to make me want to go to class everyday. Just memorize the term lists and you will make an A.
he was very unhelpful when I was in a tight bind having 3 finals in 1 day
He's very entertaining but go to class. If you don't go to class then the tests aren't easy but if you do, they should be a piece of cake
most engaging teacher i've had here at tulane. not an automatic A...but he'll help you out if you go to class. at least he tries to make it interesting unlike some teachers.
Memorize term list which u fill out during his lecture =A Drops lowest test and if u make above a 95 on one hell raise ur final grade by half a letter grade in case u bomb the final which is the easiest of his tests (non cummlative) Good Class, good teacher, and hopefully you have a good memory and thereore a good grade
this is definitly not an introdution course. There is so much to memorize. If you like plants, animals, and fungi then you will enjoy this class but if you hate that stuff then find another way to get a lab science
simple class with LOTS of memorization (definition and matching). lecture is "optional". the lab can be challenging. fair tests and awesome grading policy.
Fantastic teacher. Made me actually WANT to go to class.
A lot of memorizing, but if you know the terms list, you'll be golden for the tests (matching/fill-ins). Lectures are entertaining - outstanding teacher who loves what he does.
By far the best profesor ever at Tulane. He puts all of his lecture notes online and gives you a term list which about 95% of his test comes from so you don't even need to show up to class...ever. Plus, if you do go he's actually pretty interesting and does his best to keep you interested and entertained. If you are good at memorizing, TAKE HIM!!!!
Prof. Fleury is very enertaining in lecture. I actually enjoyed going to class. His jokes helped because I would pay attention. If you go to class, review the notes he posts online, and study the terms list, you will get an A guaranteed. I hate science with a passion and was never good at it, but I learned soo much from him.
Awesome professor... great presentations that are easy to learn. You never have to go to class all the notes and terms are online. If u do go to class its usually pretty lively with random sound effects and the like.
easy. Just study the term list and skip class.
Just DON'T let yourself get behind in your notes and you'll do fine. ALSO, textbook = COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY, and you don't need to do all the readings either.
All in all a great professor and a genuinely nice guy. Despite this, we had a terrible TA whose grading was in my case off by 18 points. Needless to say, her doctoral candidacy should be evaluated. Overall, it was an ok class made better by an engaging and hilarious professor.
prof. fleury is crazy! but all in all, an easy class to take. labs kind of suck, but you get through them. class attendance isn't mandatory at all. i went to class maybe 5 times, and still pulled off an A. the tests require a lot of studying, but its just memorizing. posts all the notes online. BUT DONT BUY THE TEXTBOOK - you'll never use it
Such a great professor and such a great class! Does everything to keep the class interesting. Powerpoint slides, video clips, and sound clips used. Notes are posted online. Attendance not mandatory but I found myself attending because he was so cool!
Who doesnt love Fleury? He's an amazing professor and makes the class a lot of fun with funny clips and music in the powerpoints. Out of 4 exams, he drops the lowest grade which is great. Overall he's a really cool guy.
My favorite Tulane teacher. I took this class over the summer with him just because I enjoyed his EBIO 101 class so much. Definitely recommend both classes with Fleury...he's the best!
Fleury is a good man and a good teacher. HOWEVER. The biggest mistake I and my friends who are not good at science made was to take this class. It is hard as hell, and unless you enjoy biology this class should not be taken.

You don't have to go to class, but he makes lecture more entertaining than any professor i've had. Do this to get an A in almost ANY of his classes: make flashcards of every single term until you have a stack 3 inches high. know them = A
fleury is a great teacher. his notes are way too long and sometimes contain useless information. the lab manual, however, is fantastic. know your terms.
Don't bother buying a textbook. Study lecture notes (posted online) and lab manual. Attending class seems like a waste of time since he pretty much reads off the lecture notes. Though he adds interesting multimedia clips and campy jokes. Class is NOT an easy A. You will have to study for a** off to get by.
Excellent professor and an excellent class for anyone with an interest in diseases and learning about them from another perspective rather than the strictly medicinal one. Studying for the tests wasn't even bad because the material is that interesting and the tests have no surprises and go straight by the term list. Definitely suggest this class!

Does anyone know what to look for on the final!?!
ridiculous lectures - stay home and memorize the terms!
Best freshman class to take. class is really interesting and the tests arent hard if you study. must take this class
Awesome class. Awesome professor. Take this class
Great professor. Try to take him if you can.
Easiest science at Tulane, hands down. Take him if you can.
If you can get past the memorization this is a very easy class. Lots of terms, but his tests are pretty straight forward and easy.
Fleury is one of the nicest professors on campus. Very entertaining and great presentations. Easy A.
Very helpful, but a lot of memorization. Put in the work early, and you'll be fine. I caught him in a bad semester for myself but would take him again without question later.
Class is super easy and though he makes lecture a lil more interesting w/ his jokes and video snippets, its really unnecessary to attend since he puts everything online. The textbook is completely useless. I rarely went to class nor read the book (no one does) & I still got an A+ on every test. Very easy bio class, especially after taking cell!
Prof. Fleury is an awesome person and teacher. The class is very interesting for a low level BIO lecture, and attending class doesn't seem like a chore. The tests are brief, but require good knowledge of the terms and notes, which are easy to study. I highly recommend taking at least one Bruce Fleury class.
Great guy, really funny and interesting lectures. A lot of material/terms but lecture notes (which the tests come from) are all posted online. Tests are easy if you put in enough time studying.
Everyone told me how amazing (and not to mention easy) Fleury's class was, so I was excited to take it. However, I find it to be boring and a waste of time. He always talks about what a terrible student he was, which doesn't exactly motivate me to do well in his class. I think his slide shows are obnoxious and the the sound effects are distracting.
class is a little boring but straightforward. his exams are really easy as long as you memorize the terms. lecture notes and terms are online and class isn't mandatory. also, ta's grade his exams and if you go see him after an exam he'll always give points back. overall great class, especially for non-majors.
Fleury is nice and entertaining... that being said this is the hardest class i've ever taken. If you don't have a problem memorizing hundreds of terms then it's okay. Many hours of studying is only way to do decent.
If you are really good at memorization, this class should be easy. Lecture notes and exam term lists are posted online. Attendance is not mandatory. To succeed on the exams, you need to memorize all the terms and their definitions.
Fleury's cool. Easy class. Just memorizing. I was in his honors section, however, and that was a lot of extra work, because you have to write a research paper. Just like his 101 class, the text book is worthless so don't bother buying it.
Fleury is my favorite professor at Tulane. I've taken both Global Environmental Change & Diversity of Life classes and the key is to make notecards for all the terms on the list. If you know the cards front and back then you'll be fine. He's an awesome guy and he made the subject so interesting I've switched into ebio for my major. Great class!
This class was super easy if you're organized and good at memorization. I made notecards for each test and studied a day or two in advance and I basically aced the class. Even though class isn't mandatory, you WILL get a better grade if you go because he gives very obvious hints as to what will be on the test if you attend. Also pretty interesting.
The lab component of the class was very difficult for me, but the lecture class was not nearly as bad. There is A LOT to memorize and if you aren't into science at all (as I'm not), you may find certain aspects of the material boring, thus hard to study. But Fleury makes the course as fun as possible and you'll get a B+ if you just try.
FLEURY IS AWESOME! He really cares about about his students and that they do well. If you make it a point to go to office hours and show that you're trying, you will get an A. I was failing and He pulled me up to an A. He is the most amazing professor I have ever taken, especially since he is completely passionate about the material. LOVE HIM
I didn't do as well as I hoped because I have trouble memorizing terms. Even so, I would still recommend taking Fleury simply because he's awesome. I loved his lectures and he wants his students to do well.
Best professor at Tulane!
TAKE FLEURYS CLASS. I like bioogy, but even for someone who doesnt fleury will make it interesting. The lab kind of sucks, but it is worth it to be in fleurys class. If you don't get an A in his class it's only because youre lazy because he literally tells you exactly whats on his tests, and you get to drop your lowest test
Great professor. Tells you exactly what will be on the test. If you study its pretty much a guaranteed A.
Prof. Fleury is awesome! Lectures are interesting and funny. Studying for tests suck, but if you make it to his office hours he'll give hints as to what specifically to know. Class is strictly memorization.
Fleury is the best professor I've ever had!! He makes the material interesting and class is fun. In fact, I actually enjoyed going to his lectures. You don't need the book - everything is taken from his lectures for the tests. Just start memorizing and making flashcards early on and you'll be good to go. Everyone should take Fleury!
fantastic teacher. fleury is so funny, and even though the material is a little dry, he makes the class very entertaining. if you study, its not too hard to succeed in his class
Dr. Fleury is my hero.
He makes the lectures really interesting with little cartoon videos and like the simpsons audio clips, not mandatory attendance and the notes are all up on line. He tells you what's going to be on the test so if you study an A is definitely do-able. Take his class.
This professor is an absolute must-take. The class is the most entertaining I have ever been in. He is one of the only professors that have the ability to get down to students' levels and make the class very easy. Don't pay attention to the 3.6 rating for easiness. He is a definite 5; if you go to class, he tells you what's on the exams.
Fleury is great. He is hilarious and tries really hard. It is clear how much he loves the subject. Every class is entertaining. However, do not take this class if you do not do well with memorization. Memorizing taxonomy of every organism on the planet is the basis of this class. Be ready for A LOT of work and crazy tests
The best teacher I've ever had! He makes the class fun when it could be extremely boring easily. Powerpoints are fun with music and videos. Tests are relatively hard (no multiple choice)and memorization is HUGE. If you can't memorize things well, don't take this class. However, he tells you what's on the test, so no stress there. :)
What a lovely man! He keeps things fun and entertaining, even when the subject matter is boring. He is also very available if you're looking for extra help. However, for me, this class was super hard! Definitely go to class, and if memorization isn't your forte, this class is not for you!
I never liked the name Bruce, but I may be naming my first born son after him. He is the epitome of what a professor should be. The material not only makes sense, it is actually enjoyable. You don't have to go to class, but why not? His jokes are really corny, which is perfect to break up the monotony that often accompanies the subject.
This guy is THE MAN! He's hilarious, awesome, easy. . absolutely perfect. You are either really stupid or lazy if you get lower than a B in this man's class. He's just fantastic! He makes a boring class fantastic! Very passionate. If you have terrible memory, you might have to put in some extra work! Nothing too serious though.
Its been said before: you need a good memory. However, Dr. Fleury makes a boring subject extremely interesting. He is obviously extremely passionate about Ebio. TAKE,TAKE, and TAKE this man for Ebio1010. He's so easy!! Go to class. You won't have to put in as much work because his tests come ONLY from the lectures. He is a great lecturer.
Funny and enthusiastic. He is very understanding... and is always willing to help students out.
His class is not very interactive but very entertaining. He's a great teacher and definitely the one you want to take.
Amazing. Attendance not required, terms are given to you. Make flashcards, write them, sing a song, whatever you need to do to remember them. If you're not good at memorization, it might be a problem
A word of advice: This class is "easy" in the your grade had a direct correlation to how much time you put in studying. Not like gen chem or orgo where your grade may not reflect the long hours you spent studying. You still need to put in the time to study. Make a 95 or higher on the first test to have a cushion. Second test is a good one to drop
The nicest man in the entire universe. He is so funny, plays great music during the beginning of class, and posts all of his lectures online so it is very easy to keep up during class. I am not a science person yet I still got an A in the class because he is a great teacher. TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM!
Bruce Fleury is an amazing teacher. He is very funny and keeps the class entertained regardless of how boring the material might be. He is more than willing to meet with students outside of class. I highly recommend him. He is easily the best professor I've had so far at Tulane.
best teacher ever. take him do not hesitate. easy A class for sure.
He is the best professor I have ever had. He is passionate about the subject he teaches and makes it funny and interesting. The tests are easy, he tells you exactly what to expect, and not too much studying is required. Plus, he plays great music and makes awesome jokes. TAKE THIS CLASS FOR SURE!
one of the easier science classes, tells you the exact format for the test, the lowest test grade is dropped, and attendance is not required
Very nice, easy going guy. Makes funny jokes and comments to turn rather boring material into something you enjoy learning. His TA grades his test, so you will almost always get points back if you go to office hours. He won't work with you on the final, and the final seemed like a lot of information. Go to class, he adds in attendance points!
Extremely boring class. I did not enjoy at all and have completely lost interest in the subject. I do not recommend. He usually gives you back some points on tests if you go to office hours though.
Although it is quite easy to download his notes off his website, it is worth your time to go to his class! He really tries to make it interesting with clips from tv shows and movies. He is so interested in the subject that it rubs off! The tests are easy if you study. Very straight forward. Take his class if you can!
Fleury is an awesome professor who obviously knows his stuff. He is fairly engaging and he really likes to make connections with his students outside of class. However, it is very easy to not go to class simply memorize the material the day before the exams (which are HARD). If you like EBIO, take him, but this is NOT an easy lab science credit.
This was a great summer class, if you go to every class he will bump up your grade. Keeping track of all the terms is hard by manageable. And he is always willing to help, and really cares about the subject and how well his students preform. I would for sure recommend that you take this class over the summer.
Bruce Fleury has got mad jokes. I high recommend him. He makes what would be a boring class funny and easy to learn. Honestly.. unless you wanna hate it TAKE EBIO WITH FLEURY
Professor Fleury is probably one of the best professors I have had. He is super interesting and very fun. The class itself, in terms of tests...were difficult. Memory intensive but the final was very straightforward and thus very easy to to well on. Don't be worried if you slip up on a test because one is dropped. Good luck!
Super easy A, straight memorization. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK!!!! Attendance isn't at all mandatory, and tests are super simple recall questions for the most part.
amazing
Fleury is amazing and while i am not a science student, I would take one of his classes again! Very tough tests. Fill in the blankmatching w no word bank and 300 terms per test. He's helpful though and wants you to pass. Take Fleury!!!
fleury is amazing and is super funny. his lectures are interesting so you should go to them. however, the class was so big, attendance wasn't mandatory, and all the lectures were posted online, so there was no motivation to go class. even though fleury rocks, his test are super difficult. take it if your good with latin names and fill in the blank.
I was told that this class would be easy. For one, the lab that's required to take with it was awful. I had to study a week in advance for Fleury's tests, and still didn't pass. He is helpful but still not an easy class.
This guy is legendary. By far the best lecturer I have ever had. Attendance isn't taken but I'd recommend going because he gives major hints during lectures for what's on the exam. Not a super easy class but very easy to do well in if you just put in the time. All memorization but it's not hard if you learn the term list and Phyla. Take him!
This class is sooo easy. You don't even have to come. Peep the term list and study those via quizlet and you should pass the class no prob. If you don't though you will definitely fail. DONT BUY THE BOOKS. THEY ARE NOT REQUIRED.
Great lectures, clear and easy tests.
Professor Fleury is a genuinely good guy who really cares about what he's teaching. I'm not a great science student, but his passion for the topic definitely was inspiring. The class is a LOT of memorization, but if you study his term list, you should be fine. Bonus points randomly given out for attending class. The textbooks aren't necessary.
AMAZING. Science is a hard subject for me so I wouldn't say that it was an "easy A" however he is a great professor that is engaging and interesting. GO TO CLASS AND OFFICE HOURS it makes and difference. DON'T BUY THE BOOK
There's nothing you don't already know about Professor Fleury. Non-science majors revere him as a special augur of As to our transcripts in the otherwise terrifying abyss known as the required science classes, while science majors love him as one of their first intro professors, always bringing charm, humor, and great knowledge to his classes.
Great teacher. SO passionate and makes every single person laugh, every lecture. He is very knowledgable and makes not so interesting material interesting. He is so sweet and helpful at office hours. DEFINITELY take.
Prof. Fleury is amazing! He's an extremely funny guy and he's able to make a boring class super interesting. Prepare for lots of funny videos and personal anecdotes. Tests are tough only if you skip class - they're entirely based on lectures (textbook answers are "okay", but not recommended) and I got an A without even getting a textbook.
Go to class you'll do A LOT better than if you don't. The tests require a lot of studying since there are about 300 on every test, except the first. So make sure you do amazing on the first test cause the rest are very difficult since they are on so many terms that are so hard to remember. The final was easy though. He drops a test which is nice
So happy that I had the opportunity to take Professor Fleury's class. Really wants to make the class interesting. Throws in a lot of jokes. I did not do well on two of his tests, but still managed to make an A- in the class.
Dr. Fleury is a great professor and has a lot of fun teaching which makes it easier to attend; I would definitely recommend. Your grade is based on three tests and one final. He is always accessible in office hours and gives great advice but you may have to wait in line. Also make sure you know all taxonomy for the tests!
