Very good teacher with help hints. His jokes are pretty funny as well. Good Guy!
not good
not a bad guy if you like hearing about his family and the simpson.. i give him 6 mths till he drops his wife though
cool guy and doesn't take any b.s. (i.e. students talking during class)
had him at Fanshawe, not when I was at UWO. Moderately tough exams, he teaches pretty well. He makes classes somewhat interesting though sometimes relies too much on his overheads. He provides some funny stories and gets off track occasionally.
Excellent instructor, funny and great stories. Tests are ok, need to study.
Overheads, overheads, overheads. He also claimed to have written them once, which is clearly not true. First exam average was 65% -- thought it was too easy. so the next exam, class average was 55%. jokes, lecture = SCRIPTED. COMPLETE LOSER!
He's a pretty chill guy, talks a tone about his family, everything he says is either in the book or the lecture slides, class is almost not necessary to attend
sweet teacher...makes dry material quite interesting...awesome
HATE HIM, HE TRIES TO BE FUNNY TO BE KOOL, BUT WHEN IT COMES TO HELP HE GIVES NON. TOTAL JERK
Doesn't care about his students
nice guy, out of all my economics profs so far, he has by far made the material easiest to understand. Classes teach the concepts, but not the way to do well on exams. Do the study guide questions at least twice, and he reuses questions!
One of the worst econ prof ever. Not helpful at all. Can not teach, weired exams. If you actually want to learn something about economics, don't take it with him!
tall guy wid glasses, kinda interesting lectures, hard tests n exams tho fair guy, good english makes fun of students, a lil pain in the ass sometimes
he's the first prof i've ever had thats made economics funny and interesting
Good prof, easy to understand. Makes the lectures interesting.
A pretty good lecturer, tries to make the material interesting, but he speeds through the math/technical aspects too quickly. Kind of arrogant. Not particularly encouraging or interested in student progress, but that's not really his job. Overall: Good, but tougher than average.
Very nice guy. moves fast through material..
I thought he made Econ very interesting and if anyone monotone had taught it i would not have gone to class. Gives good reviews for exams but goes through stuff fast, which is okay if ur a fast learner. His exams are fair, very based on the main ideas of things and hes a good prof
Quite good
makes the lecture very funny and interesting.
Not a great prof. Isn't very interested in his students. The class material is fairly simple though, and I only needed to go to maybe 1/4 of the classes.
I thought he was awsome. Great guy and good teacher.
taking first year economics, moves through material fast - ok if your a fast learner. great guy keeps the material interesting. test are hard need to study. allways do the study guide questions
I was a bit scared for a night class, but this prof is awesome. Keeps things interesting in class with funny examples. Do a lot of problems to study and you'll be fine. Tests are pretty difficult though.
Overall good prof. Tries to keep the class/material interesting. Of the fist year econ courses, his is probably the easiest. You still need to study though (the online questions help a lot).
Decent prof. For a night class, he makes it interesting. Not really his fault for people doing poorly, if you can focus for three hours straight then take the night course, but remember to do the readings and practice questions.
amazing prof. made class so interesting. very helpful and understanding. if you read the textbook and attend his classes, the exam is very easy.
Took microecon with him. Great prof, funny and interesting. Makes learning the material much easier and clear. Seems like a guy you'd want to go to the bar with :)
He was really tough, gave practice problems which were useless, makes first midterm easy but the others were hard. Avg for final was 59% and mode was 48. He didn't prepare us for the difficulty that he tested us on. Great lecturer but you could do without going to class.
Bruce is boss. He returns marks asap and is a flawless lecturer. He gets students involved a perfect amount and in a perfect way. Always keeps class interesting too. Just a boss.
Although he is a good guy, I didn't find his lessons are useful. His lectures are almost exactly like the textbook and also really fast. Microeconomics is the first basic economic class in university but I think I almost learned it by myself.
Bruce is masterful at delivering lectures that are jam-packed with important info while keeping the material engaging to the class.
This is not an easy course, but Hammond does a great job of helping students. He really knows his stuff, makes lectures and slides SUPER clear, is helpful in person. Attend all the lectures (super helpful)and go over the textbook cuz he doesn't cover everything. Always do practice questions and tests before attempting your tests though.
Interesting professor who keeps lectures interesting. Like how he makes you stay on material with weekly quizzes. Midterms are easy enough but finals for both Micro and Macro are significantly more difficult. Would recommend over all.
great professor, clear in class and explains concepts well
Definitely one best teachers in university. Fair examinations. Do the readings with the online quizzes and you will set. He is always ready to help you during office hours.
I really enjoyed him as a prof. I found his lectures to be very clear and easy to understand. I also liked the online quiz portion of the course which is specific to his section. Also it doesn't hurt that he's really funny. Would recommend.
Funny guy, not a bad prof, some lectures can be a bit boring and long. I found that this course had to be self taught from the textbook as lectures were little help to the amount of knowledge you had to know for exams.
class is fun, but he only covers a little bit of what you actually need to know for the test. Great guy but really hard exams and since the final is worth 50% of your mark, I would really recommend studying the book in depth rather than using his slides.
Great prof! I suggest getting the textbook and study guide, as they really help you prepare for the exams.
Bruce is a really hot guy!
Best professor ever! Love him so much! Easy tests+ clear classes!
I'm sitting in a Hammond lecture right now, and although economics isn't the most exciting subject to begin with, he somehow takes it to a whole new level of boringness. While he does seem to know what he is lecturing about (to be fair), he makes the (generally confusing) textbook seem more clarifying than him.
Great prof, does a great job of explaining the difficult theories, so going to lectures will help you a lot. I did way better in my 2nd semester course bc I attended every class. Also keep up with his online quizzes, they will prepare you for his exams better than anything
He teaches really well. Lectures are a lot simpler than his tests, so textbook is a must have. One warning, at least for me, those myeconlab online quizzes that supplement 10% of your mark if you do well are a serious waste of time. If you're confident in your test taking abilities, then don't even worry about those. Entertaining class sometimes!
I love Bruce as a teacher, If you go to class and do the reading you should expect to do very well. the online myeconlab quizzes are very helpful for keeping up with the course and take some of the pressure off of the final. The practice tests he provides are exactly the format of the tests you should expect, sometimes even word for word the same.
Very good prof, my only criticism is despite the lectures offering good examples and generally being decently entertaining, felt they could of included more content.
Best. Professor. Ever. Taking macro economics again just to have a class with him. Gem of a guy, professional prof and funnier than 99% of the kids at Western. You don't need to go to class but going to class makes your life so much easier just cuz how good the lectures are. Ask social science soph for prev exams + notes!
He is very good professor for economics. I wish he gives more courses at western
Considering how dull the course is, he is an amazing prof when it comes to explaining econ material and making it somewhat interesting. One of the few boring classes I didn't fall asleep in. Highly suggest taking his class!
Good lecturer. He is a pretty funny guy and I like how he walks around the classroom and sometimes gets students involved in the class. So he does a good job at keeping students engaged. For the specific course I was in the first two midterms are extremely easy but then the Final is on some next level. I wish they were more consistent.
Hard Marker
He decided to drop everyone's overall grade by 5% because our class was 'too smart' (sent everyone an email). I just don't think that's fair.
Professor Hammond is an excellent lecturer and is extremely engaging. He managed to keep be awake during his 7-10 p.m. lecture which is very telling. He likes doing activities with his class to help us understand the material. The two midterms are fine, however, he will crucify you with the final (he likes keeping the average around 50%).
everybody's final grade minus 5 due to a higher average than other prof.
fav first year prof
Dr. Hammond is an amazing professor - he makes economics look very interesting and easy. If you attend his lectures, complete all the online practice questions, read the chapters (as many times as you need to) and go through the practice exams, then it's a very easy 80% +
Makes really awful slides and really trys to keep the class average low
The midterms are easy if you study, but the final exam is on another planet. He doesn't prepare you for it at all. It seemed as if the sole purpose of the final was to bring marks down. This means you don't get a chance to prove your knowledge, but rather, feel discouraged in a subject you may have otherwise pursued.
As a prof, Hammond was pretty alright, his lectures were engaging and not boring most of the times. However, his second midterm and final exam were just horrible, despite attending all the lectures and doing his practice questions, I didn't feel prepared enough to do well on the exams.
Legit, I have aeo and because of Hammond like I might lose aeo status - legit i failed this course.
bruce man i love ya but that final was DISGUSTING
I have no idea what other Econ profs are like, but in all honesty, you pretty much have to teach yourself all of the course material. You won't get much from the lectures, and there is no clear structure so note-taking is next to impossible. The final wasn't written with the purpose of seeing if we knew the course material, it was just ridiculous.
Even Bruce himself got 70 when he wrote the test. Like how does he expect us to get above 70 ? Hes our prof, he is suppose to teach us something, not to make us feel worthless about pulling all nighters and putting long hours of effort onto this exam.
switched into his class for Macro after the first lecture.... switched out of his class for macro after that final. ezzzzzzy bruce
Worst prof ever, he doesnt care about his students lives. I sometime question his true intentions
terrible prof
Litterly studied so hard, and the final didn't make any logical sense. Most of the questions were concepts that have never even been relayed in lectures or the textbook. it was almost as if I wrote a completely different course exam that I KNEW nothing about. guessed every question. cried during it; brutal experience.
Would never take again
The only concept I learned in his class was the idea of diminishing return. Well he sure did a great job of helping us understand it in real life by making the class average exponentially lower each time we write the test.
For the final exam I read the entire textbook, did all suggested problems, went over the first two exams completely, and all in all probably spent 30 hours studying. All of that was for nothing as the final exam was insane and unfair, and it seems like Bruce doesn't want anyone in his course to do well. Would recommend switching out of his class.
never have I met such a cold hearted man... merry Christmas to you too bruce.
I regret coming to Western because of this man. Not only is he an awful teacher but he is a terrible person. We pay all this money to get an education, we put endless ours of studying in and no matter how hard you try, you will not do well because he purposely wants his students to fail. Because of him, I now have a negative outlook on western.
Funny thing that everyone is complaining about him this year. I definitely agree based on my experience in first year; he is indeed heartless and does not care about his students.
Ive been doing the same lmao
Really enjoyable prof! Loved attending lectures and exams were really easy
What can I say except for the fact that his disgrace of a professor told his students that he's going to intentionally make the average between 65-68. Most unreasonable prof who expects you to teach 3/4 of the material yourself seriously go f yourself Bruce
I had Hammond for Micro in fall term 2016 and Macro in winter term 2017. I thought he was a good prof and was able to get good marks in both classes. However, after a year, it looks like that has all changed as I was reading all the comments for the fall 2017 micro term. Just goes to show how classes/profs can differ year to year. Just be careful
Lets just say his lectures are a perfect example of diminishing marginal utility and my grade perfectly resembled an economies of scale graph.
Unreasonably hard exam, fun fact, rivers macro econ filled up right after Hammond's final exam.
Why were most of the recent bad reviews deleted? Bruce is probs reporting all these lol
His lectures were not helpful and the final exam was ridiculously hard! Other profs provided slides with detailed information to their students while bruce hammond only put a few graphs on his slides. My friend is currently retaking Econ1021 and you know what, most of the people from that class were from bruce hammond's class last semester.
HEHEHE
Best prof for Econ. Knows his stuff well and interesting lectures
It's easy to get a good grade if you know what to do. I went to 2 lectures in his class the entire year, ended up with a 92. You just have to make notes from the textbook and study them, and use Bruce's ppts for reference (i never did). There are a couple question banks online that the econ profs use for exams and if you do those enough, youre good
I was desperate during the final exam and got to know my friend was the same after the exam
Does not test on the same material as in lectures. Lectures are equivalent to watching a 10 minute youtube video on the topic. Additionally, he leaves out content that other econ classes will learn (of course you will be tested even if he leaves them out.) Also refuses to answer most questions (figure it out yourself).
You will lose your aeo if you take it with hammond. Terrible professor, class materials are not relevant to final. Easy mid term but final is irrelevant to material taught in class. Can not teach, students should write to dean to re-evaluate the quality of professors on main campus
You will lose your aeo. worse professor at western. teaches nothing, i can watch on youtube but makes the exam so hard and irrelevant. why is he still here?
