Cannot understand him. He mumbles. He doesn't talk loud. And this is only being in the middle of 3 rows in the lab room! Not very helpful. Doesn't answer questions. He only gives you a clue. The reason you ask questions is because you don't have time and you need to know the answer as quickly as possible.
He's a very knowledgeable professor, and is ready to assist you if you have a question (he'll even delve into material not yet taught if the answer to your question requires it). Friendly, and approachable, too.
Lenient grader! Lectures seem to go on forever, although informative and he seems to possess a mass of knowledge about the subject. He's a real friendly person. The labs are interesting and he'll let you out early once you finish the work.
Very nice teacher. Willing to help students.Tests are fair .Generous in grading.I am very happy to take his class
bruce heyer, aka(professor wayne) hes a cool cat. i like him, class is interesting and tests are alright.
He is so-so. His teaching doesn't excite me; lectures are pretty boring and as for labs he will make you to repeat the experiment until you’ll get it right for a few times, and you will loose the track of new experiments and get completely confused. He doesn’t tell what kind of question he would ask on the test. The test’s questions are hard; all t
If your major is biology take McCauley instead. Heyer's lectures are super boring. He does not follow new discoveries in biology, he was teaching stuff that is already proved wrong.
Probably the best bio prof we've got at DeAnza. He's definitely better than fake prof's like McPartlan. No BS, he is very straight forward. I like him.
Very laid-back. Lecture exams and weekly quizzes are straight-forward. Lab final is deadly, so make sure you can do all the flowcharts, all calculations, and know why you do each step. All exam questions are based on material covered in lab/lecture, not focused on the book. Very helpful, very knowledgable, makes it easy to learn difficult material.
BEST BIO PROF Ever!!! He knows his stuff, and his tests are fair. He's also a very nice guy. I wish I had him for all of first year bio.
You actually have a chance to do good in Dr. Heyer's class. He has a deep interest in human biology and teaches it very well. I hated bio after 6a but Heyer got me back into the subject. Thank you Dr. Heyer!!
GREAT TEACHER! very passionate about the subject and teaching, ok fine, he DOES get a little too boring at times, but I really admire the passion and amount of knowledge he has. He is ALWAYS there to help you out and he can explain EVERYTHING. Class is laid back, tests are straightforward. Took him for both 6B and 6C and hes a..MUST TAKE!
Oh boy, where do I start. His exams are hard. I had to study 24/7 just to A's the exam. So if your not willing to put up some time to study the material, dont bother.
lectures very thoroughly and if you take good notes along with his slides notes you dont need the book. very passionate about the subject. can ask questions and be given understandable answers. lab final very thorough and hard so study throughout quarter for it. tests are straightfoward. everything taken from lectures. take study group if offered!
Best Bio prof at De Anza by far. Lectures very helpful, so go to class. No need to read the book. Tests somewhat detailed, but if u memorize his slides, u should get an A no problem. Very helpful and approachable prof. Highly recommended!!
Professor Heyer was an extremely nice, approachable teacher. I fell behind and he helped me figure out what I needed to do to stay with the class. His lectures were boring, but hey, Biology never interested me to begin with.. You must attend the lectures though, his tests are EXTREMELY difficult and there were no study guides. Super nice guy!!!
dr. heyer is a nice and good teacher, but i his tests were pretty hard :( and the lab final was a killer! so make sure u pay attention to lab. lectures were VERY BORING but hes overall an interesting guy. be prepared to study ALOT for this class if you're gonna take him!
HIs class is ok but lab reports are rediculous, labs are also super boring and repetitive. Except for that one Indian TA, the rest are so mean and annoying. Uggh
Nice teacher but his class is ridiculously difficult, especially the lab reports and lab exam. Prepare to get one grade that is lower than expected. I thought I'd get a B but ended up with a C, another guy got a B instead of A. Tough Class.
Knows his stuff, very passionate about his teaching. Nice guy, labs can be hard or boring at times but hey it's a bio class for bio major. He is laid back and intelligent. One of my favs at De Anza!
He used a lot of great analogies in his lectures to help illustrate concepts. The lab was the easiest part of the class. His exams were tough and came straight from his lectures. Reading the textbook certainly helped increase understanding. Offers extra credit, which saved my grade. Grades on a curve which also helps tremendously. Knew his in
all rite...where to start...great instructor...Even though i Aced the class, it was pretty challenging.....he will be really hard on grading lab reports and his lab exam is a killer...lecture exams are quite easy if you study...have to write a lot for (16pages)lab exams...really hard..but overall,he's an interesting, laid back guy for bio!!!!!!
He's not that hard, and he knows his stuff! Biol itself is hard and sometimes u need to study topics which u are not interested in, but it's not his fault! Lab exam is a killer though, but it won't affect grade really much. Lecture exams are all MC and not tricky (as long as u studied). Just ask tonnes of questions in ur mind and u will be fine
His 6C class is terrible. Lecture is just straight from his slides and really boring. Lots and lots of assignments, you might need to turn in 4 assignments on the exam day. Ridiculous! Even though I got an A but I felt that I learnt nothing from him. Whenever I asked him abt lecture or assignments, he just uh huh, not helpful at all. Dont take him
Professor Heyer is an extremely intelligent and devoted to biology Instructor. His class is interesting and he is approachable and always willing to help students. If you do not want to struggle in this class, read the textbook thoroughly and join a study group. Expect to spend at least 24 hours a week studying outside of class. The exams focus o
If you have not taken any biology courses, Bio 6A is going to be a nightmare.
absolutely great teacher. He challenges you in class especially if you're a bio major. I actually know more lower division bio than people who are actually taking a lower division bio in a 4 year institution. he really prepares you for your upper division biology! Be sure when taking his class, be prepared, read the slides and ull be fine!
You need to be prepared for De Anza's biology department regardless of who you take, all the prof. are a challenge. Heyer is a fair grader, exams are multiple choice with extra credit for a possible 110/100. Lab exams are purely written, no multiple choice so purchase the bio atlas or look for the TAs! Study the powerpoints and the book. Good luck
BEST TEACHER EVVEERRR!!! Lectures are boringg, tests and lab exams are hard. but lots of extra credit. he is verrrryyyy helpful and easily approachable! one of the nicest and smartest teachers ive met! DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED ! HEYER IS BOMB! just study hard, and you should be finnee :)
Outstanding teacher. He's hard but if u study the slides and read the book u'll do fine. Also look for the TA's they helped me a lot in this class and are a great resource when ur struggling on understanding the concepts. And his exams are very straight foward.
If your a Bio major in De Anza college, chances are your the few who made it out of boot camp (6A) and molecular bio. 6C is the easiest out there aside from the projects. Heyer teaches and is very enthusiastic, and you can actually feel it in this class. Take it. 6A will be fun, since most of the people here are mainly his 6A & B students.
I can honestly say that I learned so much from this class. I really like how Heyer is professional in both the lab and in lecture, and will answer any question brought up. Be on top of the lecture material at all times, and be sure to understand the purpose of each day in lab... or else you will be hating life when it comes time for the lab exam!
Bio is hard in general. Heyer is the easiest professor in the department. His exams are straight forward, but you have to study really hard in advance just to pass 'em. Read the book before lectures, so you can understand what he is talking about. Took him twice because I dropped at the first try. Good luck biochem major fellows.
He prepares you very well to upper division classes since he goes through a lot of details. Exams are not the easiest but clear and fair enough if you study. He is very helpful and always helps students in lab. Take him if you can!
For those of you who have yet to take the 6 sequence in biology, understand that it is extremely hard. Heyer is fair, VERY knowledgeable, and gives you a thorough foundation in biology, but his lab exams are very difficult. Use your lab time effectively, ask for help, and make sure you do your best on your homework to boost your grade.
Excellent teacher. Lecture exams are straightforward, though very detailed. You absolutely cannot slack off in this class, especially when it comes to lab. Do all your homework carefully, take thorough notes, let this class take over your life (it will, embrace it), and don't hesitate to ask his TAs for help. If there's tutoring offered, GO TO IT.
Exams are straightforward. Book proven useless on exams, but good for understanding concepts. Use lab time WISELY! You NEED the know everything when looking in the slides. Lectures will prove to be a bore, but everything on the powerpoint WILL be on exams. Take time to study and make it your life. It WILL be excruciating, but well worth the time.
Best professor at De Anza by far! his tests are by no means easy- but fair. First test is easiest, final is the hardest so prepare your grade throughout the quarter. Ace your species tests they make up for your exam points! Make sure to know ALL details on his lectures and pay attention to things from field trips as it all shows up on the exams.
You do have to devote a large amount of time for his class, but his grading scale is fair. Heyer is always willing to help and explain concepts as long as you ask. Lecture is boring, but if you pay close attention and take notes you'll do well.
He's a boring lecturer but if you listen and understand all his slides, the test will be a breeze. His lab exam is intense; study with T.A.'s and start early! The lab reports are graded tough so make sure your group is thorough and professional when it comes to the writing. This isn't a bad class, just put time in when you need to.
Heyer is the best bio professort I've ever had. His lecture exams are not easy but not hard as long as you STUDY his slide very carefully. His lab exams are tough but he gives a lot of extra credit so you can make up your points. He gives you chances to improve your grades. Take him and study hard
Professor Heyer is really the best. His lectures are long and boring but the materials is already in the textbook and his slides. So READ! Lab time is fun. He is always willing to answer all of your questions. Great prof, take him or you will regret!
Professor Heyer is an immensely knowledgable person. His lectures are amazing. Take good notes, do the online homework. Lab exams are hard (obviously) lecture exams are all MCQ, even final, super easy. Tons of extra credit. Bio itself is a difficult subject so you have to work for it regardless of the teacher, but Professor Heyer makes it bearable
Start reading the materials from day 1. Focus on lectures lab carefully and try to participate on labs as much as possible. Final exam is the hardest. Time management is important for this course. If you focus on lectures, you probably do not need to read the book. However, if you do not pay attention to the lectures, you should probably read it.
This class is definitely a step up from 6A. Not only are the labs more time consuming, but there are group lab reports - the expectations for them are extremely strict. For lecture, no study guides are provided, so everything on the PPT slides are fair game. He likes to ask very specific questions, so be sure you fully understand the material.
I too this professor for both bio 6A and 6B, and will be taking him next quarter for 6C. I've taken a wide range of classes including chemistry, nutrition, psychology, and statistics and this professor is the most challenging professor I have ever taken. you'll have to study every day to just get a B but he prepares you for your MCATs well.
-His lecture is quit boring and long. -2/3 students dropped this class. -3 lecture exams are all multiple choice -2 lab final is handwritten -lecture exam content is so specific and you need to read textbook carefully -I usually take A or A- for science classes(math phys CHEM)but I got C for this class even I studied hard. -AVOID HIM!!!!
Professor Heyer is definitely one of the most knowledgeable professors I've had. Yes, his exams are difficult and not many get an A, but all info is straight from his slides so STUDY those and ASK--he is really good at explaining anything you don't understand! Overall one of the hardest classes I've had to take but will take Heyer again for sure.
LOVE HEYER! The rumors are true: he's hard, but not impossible. Pay attention+understand his lectures, then study hard to do well on exams. Effort for the rest of the class is necessary to stay on top of your game.. He's very knowledgeable & passionate, and I felt like I was in a true bio class for once. Lectures for me weren't boring, just long.
Yes his class is difficult but he gives you a lot of chances to pull your grade up. Always be prepared for the lab quizzes and score the most out of your online homework, those extra points totally saved my grade! Also study his slides carefully and check out his bio wiki website too, it really helps organizing what you need to study for lab test.
Lights are usually turned off during lecture, and he reads off the slides in a monotonous voice. Labs are all group work and concepts are just difficult in general. 1 lab exam that is like a written mock pGLO lab (the hardest lab). Lecture exams (4) are multiple choice and that is a majority of the grade. His teaching style just did not work for me
Lab exams are super hard, lecture exams are hard but not impossible to do. Really boring class. Would not recommend him.
This bio series is typically for the pre-med/science students, so if you were looking for an easy science class to clear reqs, I recommend you steer clear. For those that are interested in the track above, his class is a good test of your study habits. I admit, it wasn't easy, but I had to study hard. Didn't slave, but definitely hardcore studying.
His class was one of the hardest classes I had first endured. His lecture(multiple-choice) and lab exams were difficult to comprehend since it requires you to memorize and understand everything including outside materials. You have put in the extra work to know every specific details on the particular subject. His tests arent cumulative. beware.
Easiest teacher/course I have ever taken. Failed the first midterm but I offered him good money so he gave me a 75% on that test. All tests were multiple choice and his lab was easy af. I didn't show up because my group covered for me and I passed the Lab Exam with a 86% because the mock exam was basically an exact replica of the real test.
Lecture: Slides that goes by quickly, bring laptop or print them out to follow through. Quizzes and exams are all scantron, bring lots with you! Questions on exams were difficult, as they are not definitions or asking for a specific thing. Lab felt like lecture. Only got the last hr to do lab, first 2 hrs were lecture. Exams were hard and stressful
Class was ok. Lots of online hw. Must purchase book and access code ($200 total). Lecture exams and quizzes all on scantron. Only lab exam is written. He re uses his exams, so if u know someone who has taken him, ask them if they have pics of answer key! This is helpful for lab exam! Class is all memorization, very difficult. Lecture was long
Final is not comprehensive, which was cool! Grading scale is adjusted to make a passing grade % like a 65. Sometimes lets us use notes for lab quiz and talk to neighbors. Overall, he was easy going, but class was lecture-heavy and his exams were super hard. I've never studied so hard for a class, but still failed every single one of his exams :( bs
Hardest class I've ever taken, at the end of the quarter I literally prayed to just pass with a C bc it was that tough. This class is solely memorization and understanding things to the root. 3 midterms (multiple choice), 2 lab practicals (written), and one final (not cumulative but multiple choice). Difficult but would take again bc he's amazing!
Lectures are 2 hours long (twice a week), and the first two hours of lab (also twice a week) consists of him lecturing. So in effect, you spend 8 hours each week listening to him talk. If your attention span is good enough to keep absorbing information as that time passes, then you're set. But otherwise, try taking this class with some other prof.
I am a biology major at De Anza College and Bruce Heyer makes the exams very difficult and the class average on the first exam was a D. He loves to lecture for 2 hrs long each day so I cannot get the lab done at all on time. Also he loves to do lab quizzes every week. However when the rest of the class was told itwasa groupquizbutmademetakeitalone
Bruce Heyer lectures for 2 hrs every lab so I couldnt finish the lab exercises on time. Plus we do NOT get extra time to do the lab for that day. Also he loves to fail students whenever he likes and if you learn the material slow than Bruce Heyer is NOT the instructor you should take
Every week, you have two lectures for two hours each, and two labs for 3 hours each. It gets a little monotonous. Tests and quizzes are pretty straight forward though. If you've been doing ok in chemistry/physics, you should get at least a B in Heyer's class.
I have great respect for professor Heyer, lecture is very heavy, but this IS Biology. Very laid back (open note exams, open to answering a million questions) Tip: Print out lab/lecture notes before class, make study groups asap, take pictures of slides during lab (put in notebook with labels) and study the hell out of the power point slides!
Currently at Cal; Heyer's class requires relatively the same effort/studying tbh. He's not hard, but you have to put in work to study what he says in lecture (no txtbk use). I'm saying this to give you a heads up that if you can't commit time to study WELL, you'll have a hard time in his class.
not very clear or helpful
Lots of lecture material, and you have to remember ALL of it if you want an A in the class. Mess up somewhere, and expect a B at best.
Yes, his classes are hard, but the subject is hard. They prepare you for upper level courses at universities really well. The slides are study guides, so make sure you understand every slide and take advantage of office hours! He's really good at explaining things. Solid choice
Before you sign up for his class, take a look at his lecture slides online... If you think you can MEMORIZE all of the lecture material for each test (midterms & final are not cumulative, praise God), then Heyer's the man for you. There's so much lecture, it's incredible.
His class is hard, it is truly hard because the materials are harder than 6A, you have to love biology and have the good understanding in biology to feel confortable in this class specially in the labs. Lab exam is hard ,I mean it is not that hard but he grades strictly like the average is 40%. I put most of my time on it and end with B.
This class is insanely hard. If you plan to take this class, balance it out with ge classes so that you can focus everything on bio. If you can memorize and understand the concepts really well, you'll do fine. It's not just memorization but his tests requires you to think outside of the box. Memorize all you want but get the concepts too
Bio is NOT easy. Dont walk in expecting an easy A. Heyer is nice and always willing to answer ANY question. But alot of lecturing and you HAVE to study outside of class. Put in the effort. Understand concepts, not just memorize. No labwork turned in; lab used for studying/looking at specimens. Sometimes finished early. ASK HIM QUESTIONS.
Biology can be unforgivingly specific but that is true no matter where you learn the subject; you need intrinsic passion and dedication. Heyer is such a knowledgable and caring professor, so you will always have the resources needed to succeed, but you need to initiate and put in your own work. I loved the challenge and knowledge I got.
Former Heyer student currently at UCLA. I can tell you that if you want to do well in more advanced bio courses in the future, you better get used to profs like Heyer. DETAILED lectures, and everything is fair game for exams. DO THE READINGS. If you can get used to that kind of class as a first year, youll be fine going forward.
This is a really tough class. Heavy and extremely detailed lectures. Exams cover lecture slides. You'll need to really study his slides and lab websites in order to do well, but I'd say this is a fair class that prepares you for upper-level bio classes. + there's extra credit on midterms and homework to boost your grade.
Very knowledgeable guy. His lectures are long and very dense without a break. Each lecture exam ranged in difficulty but on average I got a B on them. For the lab exam you will have to make many flow charts, draw gels, and know concepts. He grades lab reports harshly. His online quizzes are heavy in calculations. E.C in the HW will save you.
He teaches as if he was still at UCB: blitzes through lecture, won't take slack during lab. Attendance is optional for lecture, but honestly you're gonna fail the tests (multiple choice) if you don't show up. Homework is online. If you're willing to buckle down and push yourself past your limit, this is the guy for you: otherwise, don't even bother
Let me just say, that if you want to succeed in this class you NEED to put in 110% every single day. If you are someone who slacks off, this is not the class for you. Yes, he fully prepares his students for university by teaching at a high level. My advice: print out his lecture notes, attend every class, and study way ahead of time. You can do it.
Heyer was a good professor. His lecture tests were very fair, need to know EVERYTHING from lecture. Labs were frustrating. There are group lab reports (so make sure you sit with responsible students). He grades tough, the lab portion really tanked my grade. He's a sweet guy, and very knowledgeable. He a has a very charismatic smile as well!
Frankly speaking, Heyer is a sweet guy who really knows how to teach biology. Biology is not an easy subject, we must put an effort into it to earn better grades. Lecture videos were long and dense, homework was online sometimes would have EC(they will save your grade) Must study hard before the exams( lecture-based)
workload is a bit heavier than I'm used to for bio classes but his class was relatively okay. lots of group work though so make sure you pick good people. exams weren't too bad but it's a lot of material
labs were stressful and fairly difficult, and the lab exam was very hard but it doesn't impact your overall grade much. good lectures and 3 straightforward exams, noncumulative. you can tell he is very knowledgeable. there were lots of separate online programs you have to sign up for, it was kinda annoying to keep track of all of them
Labs are very difficult, calculation heavy. Make sure you know them well. Lecture videos are dense but most of it's content is similar to AP Biology. He asks very specific questions on lecture exams so study, study, study. Second lecture exam was the hardest. Homework (+extra credit) and assignments are a great cushion for your grade.
very straightforward and good choice for 6B, does require you to attend class and participate with groups on quizzes (pick good groups!!!) he asks pretty specific questions on lecture exams but if you took notes and watched videos you'll be fine. lab exam was the hardest but hw (+extra credit) and lab assignments are a great cushion for your grade
U have to watch a lot of prerecorded lectures for the exams so don't procrastinate! u do lab assignments(important later for the lab exam) after a short lecture every meeting with ur lab group in breakout room so choose group wisely!! mine saved my grade, they were so helpful. lots of xc from hw saves your life. lecture exams fair, lab exam killer.
a professor who tends to nitpick and grades based on minimal things. he's knowledgable but makes you do so many tedious assignments and not at all clear or helpful when you ask questions. better to take with someone else if possible
Note: I took this class during the pandemic when classes were online. You'll have to do a group project that is worth a good amount of your grade, however, you can choose your groupmates so choose wisely. Labs are a'ight and the tests are based on lecture content so make sure to attend lecture/watch the lecture videos. B)
Horrible professor cannot explain anything related to labs. Says tests are based off lecture but are based off both lecture and the textbook. Be prepared for unclear instructions and struggling during the labs. Lectures are good but super long and vague at times. Very difficult to communicate with. Is very knowledgeable but poor teaching skills.
Labs are on miss guided and he does not really explain in detail about the labs. He wants you to expect to know the lab. Few exam questions are based on the lecture slides The rest you either know by his talking or you have a solid foundation in general about biology. Quizzes are not what you expected from his lectures they are different.
Lectures are goodish.Lecture exams are okay too. Labs are horrible, no clear instructions and he does not explain anything. Lab Manual has problems with no clear instructions. You will not pass this class unless you have friends/classmates helping you. I would not take again but is better than the other bio teachers.
Heyer is awesome. If you are planning to go into molecular bio or anything in that realm def take his class. This class is HARD but you learn a lot and if you put in the effort you will be really prepared for your upper-division courses and future in the field. He doesn't curve tests even if the average is low but there is hw extra credit!
The hardest part of this class was the labs, so try and assemble a good lab group as it makes the work much more manageable. Professor Heyer is willing to help when you get stuck, so don't be afraid to ask. Make sure to watch all of the lectures, take good notes, and review the content thoroughly for exams otherwise, you will struggle.
Awesome professor, learned a ton in his class. Not the easiest but you can tell how passionate he is about biology. Very approachable, don't be afraid to ask questions!
I learned a lot and his lectures werent too bad since they were recorded but the tests and quizzes were absolute doggy and the labs were just an astronomical waste of time
Not the best. But compared to all the other science professors, he is definitely better. 3 exams total (all non-cumulative). Exams conceptual, hard & class average low. 12 lab exercises/quizzes. Notes allowed on lab exams. Only complaint about class is ur left on ur own for labs & it was overall really hard to grasp info in lab. Tip: ask questions.
Professor Heyer is a nice person, but a very difficult professor/lecturer. Lecture homework consisted of him going over the slides (with not a lot of added info) and each video was 1.5-2 hours long. You would get 5-6 videos to watch for each test, as well as do a bunch of unnecessary simulations (simbio), which took a long time as well.
Professor Heyer is a decent professor. His exams are hard, watching the video lectures aren't entirely useful, so take good notes out of the lecture slides and make sure you study the exercise reports and simulations he provides as well. Pick your groupmates wisely for the research project! Pretty lenient grader too.
Took him for AB and C. Lectures are long, but if you take notes on the edges you should be good. Do all extra credit offered. A is weeder class, B was a struggle (hardest for this class), and c was a total pushover compared to the other two. He loves answering questions takes note of who does. Nice guy overall, just dont mess up something obvious
Professor Heyer is wonderful, I recommend going to office hours - he is readily available and extremely detailed & helpful in answering questions. This is the class they talk about when they say bio is hard, just the sheer amount of information! But also the most interesting imo. Not a class you can cram for, you need to be engaged the whole time.
His three exams are 50% of your grade. If you mess up even one, you're getting a B or worse. You learn concepts in class, and the exam questions include both concepts AND applications of concepts. He is VERY strict about his policies. Your canvas grade will show 98% when you actually have an 87%. There's a LOT of busywork. Take at your own risk.
Honestly...I struggled in this class. We were often left to figure out labs on our own, with little to no guidance for calculations (which make up most of this course's material). Exams make up a massive % of your grade, so study carefully and tread with caution - the material is super dense and detailed. Seemed like a nice professor overall.
Tbh it's my fault that I got an A- cause I didn't study as much as I should have and he gave a lot of extra credit and okay yeah the material was tough but it was doable. i took him for BIO6A as well and I have to say he was a much much better teacher this quarter (BIO6B). You'll learn a lot -- definitely take him. But study.
Professor Heyer's class is brutally difficult, but I'm glad I had him for 6A. He allows a cheat sheet for exams, which is a much needed lifeline. He's tough, but fair. He's also very approachable, always open to talk with you, and clearly has a passion for the subject, which I appreciate. Take good notes, do the homework, and you should be ok.
Difficult course, chill prof. Long lectures but has all the materials you need for exams. Just give yourself enough time to rewatch the lectures before the exams. Exams doesn't have surprises; everything's in the lectures (it's the broad range of topics that makes it hard, but cheatsheets are okay for exams. Generous in hw ec. Exams non cumulative
BIO6B with Professor Heyer was a challenging but rewarding experience. The material is dense, but staying engaged, utilizing resources like the textbook and office hours, and using study tools like Unstuck study helped me succeed. Exams require careful preparation, but the homework and extra credit provide a nice cushion.
Prof Heyer is the best. He's genuinely cares about the subject and his students. This class is tough (over half of our class dropped). Lectures are online, and be careful bc it's easy to fall behind on. Lectures alone aren't enough for the exams, so read the textbook. 1 page notes front & back for lecture exams. Open lab notebook for lab exams.
Large chunk of your grade is the final project but if you put good effort into it, it shouldn't be a problem. Weekly homework and lab assignments but not an intense workload. Lecture content is heavy but he allows a full front and back cheat sheet for exams. Overall his class requires effort but definitely worth taking.
Took 6A& 6C with Prof Bruce & both courses, he was helpful but a tough grader. Exams are non-cumulative & allow notes of an A4 paper both sides. 6C grades focus a lot on group projects, so make sure you participate. If you have any problem or condition outside of class, explain honestly in email and he is willing to help you out as much as he can.
Fun field trips are his top priority, and he makes students worry less about their grades by giving out extra credit on both exams and assignments. Take his summer class, as the field trips are longer, which allows for more fun. Not exactly an "exciting" type of fun, but definitely a type of guy you can spend hours talking with about stuff.
Lets be honest this class is hard no doubt Exams are worth 50% and the lectures are long with him flexing his vocab as if you know what he's talking about This is a first major course for bio and shouldn't be insanely difficult Took BIO10 for some background and barely helped this was an insane jump No study guide and exams are way off from lecture
