best math teacher at MU, never take anyone else! sooo helpful. won't trick you
I couldn't ask for a better teacher, you are crazy to take anyone else
great math teacher, very clear and fair, has a good teaching style
Great teaching style, understandable, helpful
watch out for his third test, I'm disappointed bruce
He's a nice guy, but Calc 3 was a killer.

best prof at MU. got a D+ in class but would have failed if it werent for him

Bruce is the best math prof at MU by far.
Very clear teacher, helpful if needed but doesn't give enough time on tests
Class isn't too difficult. Best math prof I have ever had--TAKE HIM
His tests had harder problems then he would teach...that was my only problem with him...
best i've ever had by a lot
the best math prof ever. he was recommended to me and I recommend him to everyone else.
Excellent math prof. best of the three I had.
TAKE HIM! GREAT teacher.
Bruce is the most caring and most intelligent math profs I have had yet. He knows his stuff and is willing to help you anytime you need it. Definitely take a class with him if you get the chance
best math prof here! take him!!!
Bruce explained things very clearly. Not many grades to compute for your course grade and tests are medium to hard in difficulty. DO THE HOMEWORK even if he doesn't collect it!!! I would recommend Bruce only to the motivated student. NO spoon feeding!
Goes by Bruce. Gives you candy after every test. very fair grading(lots of partial credit) I did well in his class. just take notes, and go to the study sessions. Best guy ever!
Bruce is a great teacher. Do your homework and ask questions. Very easy to understand, shows many example problems from homework. Best teacher on campus.
Bruce is really cool. I hate math but he made the class interesting and you get candy after every test what more could you ask for from a prof?!?!?
Easy Class. I didn't show up that much and I still got good grades. The homework is helpful. Do it on stuff you do not understand. Should be an easy good grade. Take this class!
What can you say? A+ teacher. Take him, he is the best math teacher at Millersville, hands down. He makes "junk and stuff" seem easy!
Very Cool Prof even if your not crazy about math
He's a good prof. You can learn from him and he answers questions and corrects the homework. Also very organized. However, he does not curve so you really hafta pull your weight in his class. The tests aren't easy.
Bruce is the best math professor or teacher I've had. The course was hard, but it was well taught. If you do the homework, you should not have too much of a problem. Tests are challenging, but just enough to show that you know your stuff.
i try to take bruce for any math course possible...he is the most helpful, clear and thorough professor. HE IS AWESOME!
great guy, very helpful prof. all u need to do is the homework, he has review sesions before every exam.
very helpful
One of the best Math Professors around. Will help you in any way possible, but does not give out grades.
he is the best of the best
AMAZING PROF!! Not only did he put "math-ese" into language that can be understood, he's serious about making sure that his students are relaxed about taking such an advanced level of math, and learning. He's more committed to teaching than almost any other prof or teacher I've ever seen!! I worked hard in this class, but got through it!
never showed up still aced w o goin to the night reviews.. easy class great prof.. take him if u can
Very clear. Doesn't require the book and gives very clear notes. Tests aren't hard as long as you do the homework and as wuestions.Deffinately take as many classes as you can with Bruce.
Doesnt use the book in class, which is fine because the book is terrible. He is outstanding at explanations. If he goes over it in class, you will see on homework and tests
When he talks you must listen because if you just take notes and do all the homeworks and classworks you will do OK
Amazing guy. Helps you out when ever he can with class works. Do your Homework and go to the night reviews and you will do fine.
this class is really easy. he's a great prof & is funny. best part is that he gives out candy after the tests! the tests are pretty easy, no tricks. he gives you alot of chances to get easy points
Abstract Algebra is a really tough course. Bruce was more than wililng to help but things just didn't click as well as I hoped. He prints all the notes for you so there's no book, but you need to know everything inside-out.
Math always sucks but he will work with you to help and his night before reviews is whats on the test, keep up on the homework its math, if you dont you will not pass
He's indeed the best math teacher ive ever had in my life....cause of him i like math now. IF you gonna take any math take him!!! He explains everything clearly step by step and even writes the solution in a different color chalk so u can see the steps. Wonderful teacher.
Brilliant Man! Would do computations in his head during his lectures that students would normally need a calculator/paper and pencil, to do. Explains things with ease and clarity. If you ever have the ability to take a class with him, DO IT!!!!!
Bruce is one of the best math teachers available at Millersville. Take him and don't look back. Be aware his classes fill fast, because he is funny and helpful.
Bruce is the absolute man! I actually got a better grade in college calc. then i did in highschool calc. all because of him. You can get the best math grade of your life if you listen to him. He's funny and class just flies by!
Pretty much the best person you'll ever meet. A complete wizz at math, very funny to listen to. Even those who hate math will like Bruce and be able to learn. I can't say enough good things about the man. If you ever find yourself with an chance to take one of his classes, do so. You WILL learn if you try to.
best math teacher i've ever had. i'm not good at math and this was my second time taking it. i had a b but the final brought me down to a c. but i think i actually get it now. he's sooo helpful! he makes corny jokes you can't help but laugh at. i wish i could take his for some other math course. take him!
Wonderful teacher. More than necessary HW, but his rules make it more than manageable. The tests were hard, but it's all stuff seen in class. You DON'T need to lug that beast of a book to every class! he's entertaining as well, which makes the class less horrid. He's also very accomodating and helpful outside of class, should you need help.
everyone says Bruce is amasing... i dont know if i agree, not quite my style. he has tricks etc that make learning rules/thms easier, and just has some weird quirks that make class interesting... Make sure you bring your "algebra shoes".
This guy rules! He teaches you using mostly examples and is Very clear. If you dont understand something, he will explain it in a very good fashion normally. Only complaint i have is at higher level classes he thinks you should get the homework right, and so he grades homeworks on not only completeness, but correctness.
he is a great, amazing professor. first of all he's a genius at math but he really knows how to apply it to teaching to people not at his level.i also have a HUGE crush on him...so it helped me attend class more
He is awesome!! His test are fair. He gives out a review, do the entire thing but do not get scared. He likes to make the review harder then the exam. The problems are pretty much the same as the review but toned down. He answers question clearly and would do the same problem 100 times to make sure you understand.
Everyone says he is the best teacher in the math dept. I would agree. The grade I'm getting is because I didn't keep up on the homework. The only complaint would be I can never finish all the problems on his tests, but that's normal. Always gives partial credit if you try a problem.
I have had Bruce before this, and am willing to take his summer number theory class just because he is such a good professor. This guy helped me get it done - he is a must for math ed majors. All the praise is warranted and true. He is the best math prof this university has to offer. This is abstract algebra as it should be taught.
I did well in Alg in high school and now I am scared I may not pass. (passing is a C+) Bruce ( he tells you to call him this!) is nice and brings candy after tests, but he can be very confusing and goes way too fast. Take tons of notes which later make no sense. Does have reviews before tests and homework turned in everyday for points.Classwork als
Bruce is awesome! He does move kind of fast sometimes but he leave the notes on the board long enough for you to copy them down. His witty comments are really funny even though some people hesitate to laugh at them. Tests are extremely fair. If you do the homework and go to review sessions will do well.
His tests are fair. Not too easy, but he doesn't try to trick you. He also gives a helpful review session before every test.
Quite possibly one of the best teachers at Millersville. Some of the lectures may be a little confusing but he is always willing to help and if you seek his help, you will understand the material no problem. Homework is a little difficult to keep up with but he grades it very easily. Exams are somewhat difficult but he does not trick you whatsoever
This class was the highlight of my week, probably because it was with bruce. He goes over things enough times in class so that it's easy to understand for everyone. He uses food references all the time and is a pretty funny guy. Take him. :)
In high school i got D's in math. And now i'm getting A's and B's in his class! Plus i hate math, and this class is not bad at all!
Bruce is amazing! one of the best math professors in the math department. tests are extremely fair. graded homework, which is easy. review sessions for each test, and actually made class fun and interesting! He is a must to take!!!
We know him as Bruce. Wonderful professor. he understands us well, knowing that we hate math and don't want to be there (MATH 100). he is nice and has his funny moments. 4 tests, including the final. about a total of 10 problem sets due (one every week or so) that you get full credit for as long as you do at least half of the problems.
Ikenaga is SUCH a great professor. Math is my worst subject but somehow this semester, I managed to have an A! Gives candy every time you get tests returned. Only 3 30 point tests and 45 pt. final. Definitely recommended.
One of the best professors you can ever take, extremely helpful and easy to understand, very kind. Do the homework to improve your grade.
Bruce is Not a competent teacher of Math, he doesn't connect with students, treats them as suspects, and he writes his own reviews here, it is so much fun to read them..
Agree. Classical math prof. mean and meaningless.
totally incapable to understand us
I expected better, clearer presentation
His tests are fair? Not too easy?He doesn't try to trick you? He also gives a helpful review session before every test???
Great teacher. He does a very good job at explaining everything and uses a lot of examples. His test questions are not tricky. Just go to his review sessions, pay attention in class, and attempt the review packets. His review sessions are so helpful, he tells you exactly what is going to be on the test.
Great teaching style! Very helpful! Take GOOD notes, do the easy easy homework, and always do the practice exam he has available online...easy grade! Great professor!
I really enjoy the way he teaches! The homework and his online review sheets are very helpful to me. (homework is super easy)Take the short amount of notes..at the end of class you have class work to help you cement the idea in your head. Thanks Bruce
If you can't learn from Bruce, you can't learn at all. Easy to learn from, very helpful, plenty of examples, and very caring. _The_ best professor evar.
Mr. Ikenaga is the best professor I've taken at Millersville University so far!!! His class is easy but you have to attend it. Doing the hw & review sheets really helps prepare you for the exams. Mr. Ikenaga is extremely helpful, he holds review sessions before each exam & he always gives out candy. If I had to take him again I most definitely wud!
Great guy
This was the best math teacher I have ever had. His classes prepared me well for grad school. It is a great feeling when you are taking a graduate class and thinking, "I already know all of this." Take him for any class you can if you are a math major. You will do well and have a better understanding than most of your peers if you go on.
Dr. Ikenaga (prefers to be called Bruce) is an excellent professor. He knows his subject well and is always willing to help in any way if you are having trouble. The material is easy if you practice, and in his class, there is a lot of practicing, which will really help you in the long run on his tests. Highly recommended.
I took Calc in high school and I failed it, I took it freshman year with Dr. Sell and I failed it. I took it with Bruce, he is amazing!!! As long as you do the homework and attend class, you should pass. I get C's or lower on my tests and he gives you points just for HW SO you have a lot of opportunities to raise your grade.
Bruce is a very good guy. He is very helpful when you are struggling, and gives out review sheets before every test, as well as candy after every test. However, the tests can be tough and very confusing, but overall not terrible. Gives out homework a lot, but these homeworks can help lift your grade. If you practice hard enough, you should do fine.
I think it's funny that everyone who rated him badly is in low level classes. This isn't high school, GROW UP
I had Bruce for a summer (5 week) calcu2 course. Going into it I was scared, even as a math major bc calc2 is supposed to be tough and fastmoving. but Bruce is an amazing professor, very helpful and easy to understand, he gave homework everyday (]its 5 weeks long). tests were straight forward, just go to class and do the work and you'll do well
Bruce is probably thee best math professor I've ever had in my entire education career, no lie. Very caring, very clear, and as long as you are motivated, theres no reason why you should fail.
Abstract Algebra with Bruce is highly recommended. He is very clear in his teaching and takes you through everything step by step. The concepts can be hard to comprehend but Bruce guides you through them in a simplified manner that you can follow. His exams are manageable and there are no surprises. EXCELLENT Professor!!
College Algebra. BEST prof this school has to offer! you see the chalk-board, he gives you a number of examples of a type of prob step by step numbering and that's it. He makes you understand material just like that.Take him my ppl. He knows the ways of teaching. I loved this guy. He's the man, what else can I say. test is very doable after lecture
had a C avg before the final, missed class due to illness, grade dropped 10% for missing 6 assignments which were expected to be completed the day i returned. does not answer questions clearly yet expects you to ask them. better off asking a classmate before going to him. liked him before this class.
I LOVE HIM!! he is such a great teacher! He explains everything, if you dont get this class.. i dont know, there's something wrong with you. This man is what you call a professor. There will be homework, but that will be easy to do. Take him! TAKE HIM!!
Bruce is a really nice guy, and his examples in class are more helpful than notes I've ever taken in a high school math course. He prepares you well for the exams, which are really easy. Definitely an easy A if you show up every day, he assigns classwork that takes a minute or two at the end for attendance/a small portion of your grade.
If you need a math class and Dr. Ikenaga is teaching it, TAKE HIM! He is honestly the best math teacher I have ever had. He gives a graded class work each day but you are allowed to use your notes and ask others. They account to the amount of a test score which really helps your grade in the end. He gives back all graded work right away.
Calc 2 is definitely one of the most difficult classes you will take if you need to take it. I heard before that it was harder than Calc 3, but Dr.Ikenaga makes it slightly easier to learn the material. He gives you free chocolate on the day you get exams back. Yum. But anyway, he gives you classworks/homeworks to help boost your grade, study hard!
I've had Bruce for two classes and I've been happy that I had him as a professor in both cases. He is very straightforward and the workload is very manageable. Homework is collected often, and it's hard not to do well on them. The test questions are usually worded and similar to the homework/classwork....And you get candy on special days :P
Bruce is the man and so darn amazing!I feel blessed that I had the privilege to have him for both Calc 1&2. I strongly suggest taking his class if you have the chance to, SEIZE the opportunity. He is very fair, and shows excitement for what he does, he is extremely helpful and you can never get enough of his jokes &Calvin Butterball. Tip: do hw. <3
Best professor I ever had. Took Calc 2 summer class with him. He explains everything very well and is very willing to help. He is strict, but fair. If you have to take this class, get this professor! 10/10
Ikenage is so good at explaining math! As long as you go to class everyday and do the homework I can't see anyone failing the class. The classwork he gives really helps your grade, and he gives review packets before each test that help a lot.
Such an amazing teacher. I'm so glad I was put in his class for my first semester. He gave us candy when he passed out our tests. He always had them back by the next class. He explained everything very well. If you have a chance, take a class he teaches.
Ikenaga is great, highly recommend taking one of his classes! Super organized, clear, and funny. As long as you do practice problems he offers, you'll do good in the class.
He is a really good professor. Probably the best teacher I have had including high school. He knows everything, never makes a mistake, and explains everything so well. Take a class of his.
Dr. Ikenaga is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He tells you exactly what is on the exams. If you do the classwork and homework as a review for the test, you will get a good grade. He makes the practice exam extremely hard so the actual test seems easier. Great guy. He gives out candy after tests
If you like math, it is literally impossible to not love this professor. His lectures are so clear and precise, and he has such a firm grasp on the material that every other professor just cannot compare. He gives so many assignments that as long as you do them, they are a huge boost to your grade, and they definitely reinforce the course material.
Dr. Ikenaga is one of the best professors MU has to offer. As long as you do all classworks and homework assignments, you should get an A. He makes the practice exams very difficult, so study classworks and homework assignments before the exams. He will tell you exactly what to expect on each exam. Definitely take him if you can.
From all the reviews I read about him I thought he would be a great professor but for some reason I still did terrible in his class. I felt that the exams were so much harder than the material we learned in class, however he is a fun and friendly professor.
I could never have passed calculus, much less gotten an A, without his great teaching. He explained things really clearly but without making you feel dumb. You can tell he loves math. Taught completely from memoryhis own notes which were kept on the website. Very smart. Was extremely organized. Also, he gave out candy after tests. 'Nuff said.
Easy class especially if you took Calc in high school. Talks quietly so sit in the front. Review is usually harder than the test.
Teaches material in his own order, not from the book. Explains the basics of concepts very thoroughly before moving on to more complex examples. Notes available on his webpage. Do well on homework and the review and you WILL nail the tests. He doesn't throw curveballs, and doesn't grade harshly for small errors.
He's the best professor I've ever had at Millersville. He doesn't grade you too harshly, and he's super fair with the material. He makes it possible for you to do well if you try. He's also a super funny guy and very interesting.
Dr. Ikenaga is a really quirky little man. His lectures are entertaining because of his food-related examples and scenarios he comes up with. Grading is fair, but the course is like physics in the way it makes you think differently. He does well with preparing you for the "sneaky" stuff, but you MUST attend class to get everything out of it.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. That said, it's tough. It's calculus. But he's an exceptional teacher. He's truly passionate. DO THE HOMEWORK. You get points for it. Show up to class you get points. It's tough but he really gives you all the material you need. And no book needed he has all the work on his site. He rocks.
Ikenaga is an amazing professor. His lectures aren't boring and he makes a lot of math jokes. His grading is fair so don't expect an easy A, but the homework and reviews are specific to what he puts on the tests.
Dr. Ikenaga is the nicest, most thoughtful prof in the dept. His lectures are straightforward, review sessions before tests are basically what's on the tests, he's an easy straightforward grader, and he isn't boring. He brings candy every so often and cracks a few jokes. Cute like a grandpa, would definitely take him again for any class.
Dr. Ikenaga has a really good teaching style. There are classwork assignments almost every class and are graded, so if you do well you can really rack up the points. He gives the class candy sometimes too. I would definitely take him again.
Abstract isn't an easy course, but Bruce makes it tolerable. His lectures are great, lots of math jokes involved. Plus candy after every test. Tests are difficult, but he grades fair. This is my second course with him and I'm already registered to take another. Amazing professor.
Great and thorough professor overall. Very nice and offers help whenever needed. Quizzes at end of each lecture to make sure you understood material but will help if not understood. Always available outside class and grades impartial. Definetly would recommend for any course in the future.
Great professor. The class goes by quickly since he tries his best to make it interesting and most times relatable. Hes approachable and willing to help if you need it. As long as you do your homework and look over his examples, you can get an A.
One of the best professors in the math department. Go to class and work hard and you will have no issue having success. The tests are just like the classworks and hw . Although the upper-level math courses he teaches can be challenging, he presents the material in a clear and organized way that makes it easy to understand. HIGHLY recommend.
Excellent professor. Clearly explains new topics, and gives plenty of examples/corner cases for each. Tests are extensions of what you go over in class, and are usually easier than the homework. Also cares about his students not having to spend extra money, so he doesn't require a textbook, and uses paper homework rather than an online service.
I would take him every semester if I could. He is the best in the school and he makes everything so clear for you. Take his class without any hesitation.
Amazing professor. Wants you to pass. Do the homework, the classwork and try to do well on the tests. Gives you candy when you get your tests back to make you feel better about your grade.
Dr. Ikenaga is an astounding math professor. Not only will you be engaged with his lectures; but the material will be reinforced with daily classwork. He returns all classwork assignments and tests with corrections, so as to learn from your mistakes. He is also quite witty. Bonus: He is always available during office hours.
No, just no. Test are hard, no quizzes.
I'd take him again in a heartbeat. We had a lot of homework but the practice really does prepare you for the exams. His reviews are way harder than the exams, making the exams feel much easier. He gives a decent amount of partial credit and the questions on exams mostly test concepts rather than your ability to do tricky algebra or trig.
Truly amazing prof! He cares so much about his students, even though he hides it. He can be a little intimidating, but he is really a cool guy. Easy grader, cares more about effort than getting the right answer. Structures the class so everyone has a good chance of success. Would take again, one of the best profs at MU.
Dr. Ikenaga was a great Professor, and I would suggest him for anyone who is required to take Calc 2. He is very far, he prepares the class well for tests, and he doesnt weigh tests more than class work, or he. Calc isnt the easiest subject to handle, but he wont make it any worse than it has to be.
