Appreciation - Funny as hell, fun class, study little details for tests.
Emphasize grade strictly on 4 tests and final. Not very helpful.
Give him some credit for allowing ex cred, but he req'd too much info on tests for beginning level mus app students..
Extremely funny, nice guy.. worst part is the live reviews of concerts. Tests are easy if you pay attention to lectures.
Awesome teacher....I highly recommend.
His grading system is simple. Just know the information and your fine. Makes a lot of jokes while explaining the materials. Also he explains in laymans terms so anyone can understand this class.
Funny as hell! Makes the class alive and gets into the topic. Exams were okay, and will definitely give you clues to the right answer. Great teacher - highely recommended!
Very likable, informative guy. Knows his subject well. Interesting, funny and sometimes uncannily educational. Tests are tough but if you listen and study, no problem. Great for music aficionados as well as those who want to know more. Great films!@

He makes what could potentially be horrendously boring lectures fun. The class meetings seem to go by faster, and you get a practical understanding instead of memorizing dates and people. Take this professor.
This man is a natural born teacher. One of the kind that you learn from without even trying to learn. The way he explains things just makes sense.
part of the reason for taking this class is that the man is so unbelievably sexy, the music is great too! His wit and intelligence are beyond compare. His voice radiates through you, there's no way one would not want to listen. He is yummy!
Langford is high-quality entertainment! Make sure you know what chant music is or he'll go ballistic ;-) Highly recommended for his concert reviews: Long Beach Symphony. $6 rush seats for students, and parking's $8. Round up a few classmates!
This guy is the greatest. My all time favorite teacher. If he taught every subject here at school, I would totally study all the time. He's extremely funny, teaches you without you realizing it. A+ teacher all the way!

This man's appreciation for music is contagious. If you already love music, you'll be in your element and thoroughly enjoy this class. If not, you'll become a music lover because his enthusiasm is contagious. A+
He is very funny, hot, funny, and funny. You will not easily forget what he teach you,and his teaching style. You should try his class and you will enjoy it.

He's okay. I've seen better. He's no Sam Kinison.
His discussion, about how the power is not in the hat, is on its own worth the price of admission.
FABULOUS!!!!!! SOOOO COOL!!!!! CAN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS!!!!!
He was so mean. Incredibly sarcastic and rude on a regular basis. Yelled at me and other students on more tehn one ocasion. And, he was totally up himself, thought he was god's gift to music and females. Uhg, don't take his class.
An intelligent, thought provoking Professor. Some overly-sensitive people mistake his wit and (sometimes flirtatious) humor as mean-spirited sarcasm. An excellent course if you want to learn about great music in an enjoyable atmosphere. Not bad at all for an 8AM class.

He is hilarious. You will spend most of the class laughing at him. He is a good teacher and enjoys what he does.
Great teacher: total command of material and excellent speaker (used to have a radio show on a classical music station in LA). Even though you can tell he's rehashing certain jokes, still an entertaining guy. Will really make you appreciate classical music.
He knows his stuff. Very easy if you just study for the handful of tests he gives! HOTTIE!
Excellent teacher and he really makes you appreciate music. Very though provoking and a good speaker. Funny guy too.
I took the online class and although I LOVE music, it was a challenge for me because the teaching is done completely by a 3rd party site. You never see or talk to the professor except 2x in the semester, for the midterm & final. It's truly an independent study type of class.
He's nice and funny, a little weird but a good class to take even if your not a Music Major
Great Class. Will learn alot!!! and Nothing at all at the same time!! He is a very funny guy who loves to talk about his work and the opposite sex!! GREAT CLASS TO TAKE!! can't say enough about it.Oh, and he is o.k. looking for an almost bald guy!!!!!!!!!
This online class is very well organized. The only issue is you have to be online to listen to music. The class was well organized to help online learner. I am sure it would be a lot more fun taking the real class, but schedule not permitted. The quiz and reports keep you focus and do research. Learn a lot about history of music. Email work great.
This was an online class and although there are quizzes after every section, you will do well in the class just as long as you discipline yourself. There are six assignments which sounds like a lot, but they are fun and helpful. Don't miss a quiz because he uses quiz questions on the midterm and final. Professor will always respond to emails.
must be disiplined- you have to stay on task but its really easy
You will never want to miss a class. Langford is anwesome and a freaken genious. He makes class fun and adds a lot of humor. He is definetly an entertainer. The fact that he is so smart makes him very interesting and at times sexy. Very easy class and you will laugh every day!!

Great teacher if he ever makes it to class

Awesome teacher.

that dude was the funniest teacher I had during my whold tenure at citrus
Bruce is awesome and knows his****
You can tell that he loves what he does, and he wants his students to take the time to learn something. He is a bit eccentric at times but he gives us life application by telling to go to a concert or musical.

this dud roks. take anything he teaches.
One of the funniest teachers ive taken, tells great stories and manages to make the material funny, for taking an 8:00 class ive never laughed so much. Definitely a good teacher and a good class to take even for a non-music major.

Fun, his class were nonstop laugher.
I took online 114 and he was really helpful. He had a great sense of humor, but since I took the class online, I know I missed out!!! The online format is good, but needs watching or you'll miss quizzes and such.
I took this class and was amazed at how interesting he made his lectures. He teaches about music so you can understand it and how to apply these ideas. His extra life discussions are thought-provoking and awesome. A few tests and critiques but nothing you can't handle. read the book for info. highly recommended teacher. The power is NOT in the hat
I took his online Music Appreciation class. You have to be very self disciplined to do all the work on time. He was very helpful and very nice. I would recommend taking it on campus though.
The best teacher I ever had! "The power is not the hat!"
Awesome class! The bulk of the exams are in the lectures. Take good notes, ask questions and you'll do great. Very funny and charasmatic, i'm sure he was a heartbreaker!! Very interesting and lots of fun. "The power is not in the hat"-it's in you*
As long as you do all the assignments it is an easy A. I took the class on-line in the summer. Do not take during the regular semester. It is too short of a class to take in 16 weeks. HINT ~ MIDTERM AND FINAL ARE QUESTIONS TAKEN FROM THE QUIZES!!! GOOD LUCK!
took this class during winter session. it was an alright class. nothing special.
I took this class online. It can be sooo easy if you just keep up with the daily readings, assignments, etc. If you just put forth your best effort, you're guaranteed an A. This class is definitely something you have to discipline yourself for. Really cool guy and he always leaves feedback. Plus, it was a late start class that only lasted 6 wks!
The funniest, laid-back, relaxed teacher ever.
Very friendly relationship with students, extremely ralexed and casual atmosphere. Very knowledgeable teacher and a cool person. FUNNY AS HELL!!! Bases grade on tests(accumulative), concert report, and term paper. Explains excellently. I took three classes with him. Even if you have nothing to do with music, you will love this class.
He is an amazing teacher honestly you don't really need the textbook the tests are mainly the notes. Just put an effort and you will pass! I only missed one class because I had a paper due but other then that I loved it and would not want to miss it Great teacher!and Funny!!
This guy is funny as hell and his class is pretty easy. All you have to do is attend 2 [classical] concerts, write critiques on them (and you can do 2 more for ex. credit); showing up is crucial since it's based on taking really good notes. His tests are 100 ?s on scantron and based purely on notes. He loves music and has a great sense of humor. ^^
very funny, but he might offend some people with his colorful sense of humor. Do the 2 critiques early and get them over with or you might be in trouble. tests are based purely on notes. they're not too hard IF YOU STUDY. the listening section can be difficult, especially on the last two tests. not a hard class, just don't slack off.
I am taking this class online. It is a fun class. Lots of quizzes to complete; if you study you will pass. The questions on the midterm (and final will also) were all from the quizzes taken. Easy class. Willing to help students. Always replies back to emails within a day.
I like music, but this is definitely not my favorite subject. too much work, time consuming; lot of quizzes to complete. midterm easy; final hard. if you want take this class; do not take it with other classes.
Great teacher. If you're easily offended by jokes then don't take him. He has a great sense of humor and doesn't mean anything negative by his jokes, just wants to have a laugh with you. Nice guy! Knows his stuff! Little to no homework at all just 4 tests and 2 critiques. DO THE CRITIQUES you wont pass without them. Take notes on everything he says
This guy... is really just a jerk. I took his Music Appreciation class online and any question I had for he had a pompous remark. His class is nit-picky and you will fail it because of stupid insignificant details that do not even pertain to the matter, (i.e. dates, names).
To be honost I do not like saying bad things about people, but really you guys if you take him, you are getting yourself into something you dont want to. He is a bad teacher, a horrible listener, and a very bitter person. Just being honost :/
I had him for music appreciation fall 2008. If you are easily offended by crude jokes and language - don't take him. Taking him online might result in a smug comment that was meant to be humorous so take @ citrus. He's funny, knows his stuff, and his tests are pretty easy as long as you TAKE NOTES. I'd recommend him - The power's NOT in the hat.
really cool and funny guy and if u cant stand crude humor then dont take the class. put it this way, he looks like a taller Colin Mochrie from Whose Line Is It Anyway. do the tests and critques or u wont pass
I took his Music Appreciation class in Fall 09 and he is such an easy teacher. You can fail all the tests and still pass the class by doing to critiques and extra credit! He is so funny but some may get offending by hid crude humor. Dont take it personal he is trying to make the class entertaining! Take the on campus class!
Failed the online music appreciation course and retook it to get an A. The differences between his traditional class and the online course was staggering.
Don't let looks fool you, he's sharp, witty, and loves to enjoy music & life. This is what class would be if a stand up comedian was a teacher. I never bought the book, he'd only use it to further add to his lecture topics. No HW. Occational 'critiques'.Quizzes, midterm and final. You miss info if you miss a class. Take notes cuz it's on the test!
Mr. Langford is a little out there, but he's still a really cool professor. i wish i would have studied his notes more only getting a C in his class. you never use the book in class. only time we used it was to look at a picture of a composer. test are on his notes, and the concert report, and the composer research paper aren't that bad. in all, co
He is the man! Freaking hilarious and I learned a lot while in his class. If you have the chance to take this class, I highly recommend it!
Best teacher i have ever had, i took both his Music appreciation and History of music just because i enjoyed his teaching so much. Funniest guy especially early in the morning, i can never stop laughing with him and he makes the class so much fun. I always look forward to attending class wondering what he will come up with next.
easy class, one of my favorite professors on campus. extremely funny and helpful. TAKE NOTES and attend ALL class meetings if possible because almost all the test questions come from lecture. we don't use the book at all except when looking at pictures of people etc. he knows a lot about music and overall an AMAZING professor.
Good teacher. he is passionate about his subject and does everything he can to convey his knowledge to you. he is a little crazy but it keeps his lectures interesting. tap tap new rules.
Prof. Langford is a very intelligent guy and he is more than willing to help in anyway he can. His teaching style for me, was crystal clear. I wish that he would teach other subjects. I was three points away from an A, he didn't have to but he bumped me up. Great Teacher, Great Class, Don't buy the textbook, you can get an A without it.
Took it online for summer session. Pretty much the hardest class I've ever taken. Deadlines are very strict and there is a lot of information to remember. I recommend taking notes and paying close attention to all the sound bites. Also, don't email him with questions unless you want a really sarcastic answer.
OMG!! he is SOOOO FUNNY! and sarcasstic, he keeps you very VERYYY intrested, uhmmm NO HOMEWORK and a couple critiques which is simmple, all you need to do is TAKE NOTES and everything he says in class is on the test, i loved going to his class he's the best
Took his online class for winter.Do well on quizzes,&5(2-3 page papers). He is very specific on the answers to his questions & you won't get an easy A by word rambling, have to REALLY mention the terms he is looking for.Have to remember every type of song you hear!Very fun to learn in his class & you will leave the class knowing real music history!
Bruce is awesome!
Bruce is freaking awesome. Has a tendency to go off-topic, but not so much so that you don't learn.
Class is super easy and Langford is a really laidback, chilled-out kind of guy. He makes the class interesting with his stories. There is NO HOMEWORK. Just a few tests and a few concert critiques. It's definitely an easy A!
A MUST! Now this is a class! Professor Langford is my favorite professor at Citrus, hands down (and I've been here for 3 years). In fact, through his teachings and the concert critiques, I've gained a respect for a wider variety of music. The class is easy, just do well on the tests and critiques. Langford is hilarious and is like an old friend!
GREATEST TEACHER EVER TRULY A WISE MAN FUNNY STORIES MAKES SOMETHING LIKE MUSIC HISTORY FUN I AM A MUSICIAN AND I TRULY DIDNT CARE FOR HISTORY BUT HE SHOWED IT TO ME IN A NEW LIGHT AND NOW I CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF CLASSICAL MUSIC
I took his class online. He's a jerk. He seems to feel the need to be rude when it's really unnecessary. But that's how he came off through an online class. Maybe he's nicer if you get to know him in person
If you want a terrible teacher, that won't help you, that will laugh at you if you ask him for help, whos unclear about whats going to be on the test, whos a complete a hole for no reason, who expects you to go out and spend 100s on his 3 unit class than this is your teacher. otherwise smack his blad head for me
Best class ever. I LOVED it from the second it began and the second it was over. He made every history period of music so interesting. He tends to pick on people from time to time, but you just can't take it seriously. If you enjoy learning about the history of music, TAKE THIS CLASS. He will NOT bore you to sleep, I guarantee you that.
great teacher, funny , makes class intresting ...gets a little of topic. do all the concert critiques and study before test and youll be fine
Took him for an online class. just follow the directions its pretty easy. As for written assignments hes a hard grader. His comments are rude, dont take it personal. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. hes really picky. but still got an A in the class its pretty easy.
Awesome class. Langford makes alot of pointed jokes so you have to have an open mind and a good sense of humor. Grade is 500 points, 100 for 4 tests and 50 for 2 concert reports. Take good notes while he is talking because the tests are straight from his lecture. The concert reports are easy. You can find free college concerts, don't worry bout cost
Great teacher, very funny and informing!
Great teacher. Used comedy with his lecture which made it easy to remember them. Its a easy class and you learn :)
This was a pretty easy online class, though there was a lot of material to cover at once. Sometimes there would be 2 or more quiz's due in one day. I took the late start class Sring semester so it was condensed. I'm sure taking the class for 16 weeks would make it even simpler. Good luck!
I wish he taught every single class at Citrus because he makes everything interesting. I loved his class and that may be because I love learning about music. Yeah, he can pick on some people, but really, don't take it to heart. He's funny and just awesome. He WILL NEVER BORE YOU. TAKE HIM!
Overall class for online experience, was a piece of cake. When it comes time to do the "written assignments," he isn't helpful at all, so good luck with that. Concert report? He expects you to pay over 100$ just to attend. His point system doesn't make sense. If you are trying to raise your grade, acing the midterm and the final, will do NOTHING.
The course its self is super easy. Just read the 5 min lessons. The lessons get a lot longer toward the end but he gives you more time to complete the homework. Some of the assignments were unclear but he would always email back (in 5 seconds)and let me know what needed to be fixed then grade me on my fixed work. Over all a good guy and easy class.
I lovedddd Professor Langford!! Best teacher I have had at Citrus! He's hilarious and sarcastic! He makes the lectures very interesting, and you learn a lot from this class. They are only 3 tests i believe and they are 100 questions. They're pretty easy if you study and follow the notes. You don'y need a book for this class.
Relatively easy class. Read a 10-15 minute lecture, take a quiz on it, then onto next weeks assignment. A couple papers about artists from certain periods, as well as having to attend a live concert and write a report about it. Don't listen to those complaining about buying the online course, as it is essentially the book. Would take again.
If he assigns concerts and extra credit do them! Easy points, listen to what he says and take notes. I found the listening part of the exams the most difficult, but study what you can. Overall it was a great class and he's extremely knowledgeable/passionate about his material.
Langford was probably my most favorite and memorable teacher! He keeps the lessons very interesting. Book isn't required, but thorough notes help a lot. The only thing I can say negative about him is that his lectures almost feel off topic and it's sometimes hard to figure out what will and will not be on the test. Extra credit is easy! Do it!
i took his online class and it couldnt be easier. there are 4 written assignments and all u have to do is meet the required amount of words. he always give u feedbacks and hes a REALLY easy grader. all the answers to his quiz can be found on google. and he replies your email in 10 min. if u want easy A his online class is the class to take!
Took Professor Langford for Winter session online. He has a very organized website he wants you to buy the access code for It was a bit $ but worth the same amount of a book. Can't pass without. He was very quick to respond to emails. follow his criteria and do his hw, you should be fine. Still have to do the work though. Must do concert report.
The hat story. If you don't get anything out of this class, at least stay fit the hat story. The whole class was dead silent. Inspirational, easy, and hilarious. The guy has the "sarcastic jerk" humor but I think it's hilarious. Extremely nice guy. I can see people who think he's mean not understanding his humor. Some jokes are obscure.
Not the best instructor in the world, but not the worst. The exams were based evenly on lecture material and the textbook readings. There was a required paper (a concert review) that was pretty much a piece of cake. My main objection is that I really didn't "connect" to Langford's sarcastic and snide sense of humor. Overall, a mediocre teacher.
If you don't do the term paper or concert reports, you're boned
Very smart man. I would have to say he is one of the best professors on this campus. He will talk a lot about music history and it is in your best effort to absorb his wisdom!
Absolutely loved him! So dry sense of humor but always had a great story to tell. Has a passion for music which makes his class inspirational. BUT make sure you write EVERYTHING down, he let us use our notes on the tests and if I wasn't writing everything down I'd probably failed. Do the extra credit. Helps you out a lot! Loved his class!
This guy is absolutely hysterical. If you're sensitive, don't take the class. There were two papers in the class I took, one of which you has to attend a concert for. The tests are easy if you study, and there's no homework.
I took the online 8 week music class. If you take this class go to the coursework tab and keep up from there because his assignments are out of place which caused me to miss a few quizzes. He takes this intro class way too seriously therefore makes him a tough grader because he wants you to be at the same level as him. very rude when responding
I took the 6 week summer course for Muse 109- Music Appreciation. Just be prepared the access code for the class is 110 dollars. Dont wait on the Concert Report Its due a week before the class ends. Also every quiz has a 3 day deadline. For the written assignments they arent that difficult. GOOD LUCK!! :)
I took him online for his music appreciation class. He was always there to clarify questions I had, he was even kind enough to look at some of my papers before I submitted it to make sure I was on the right track. There is a concert report, I would get on that as soon as possible. Take him, you won't regret it.
hes too damn hard. took his class twice and failed both times. if you're not much of a person who's into the detail of how music truly work then i wouldn't take it . he plays music from before Christ was born. don't take his class
He took 25% off a big assignment because I didn't agree with his opinion, which dropped my grade almost 10 percent. I was able to get an A because the tri-weekly quizzes were really easy. Assignments are easy, he just grades them weirdly. He's also very sassy and degrading in his responses. He made me feel so dumb when I made a little mistake
Do not mess around in this class. Pay attention, READ his critiques, and be prepared to learn a lot of about the fundamentals of music. This was a challenging class due to the material but he was a fair grader and a good professor. I would definitely take another class from him.
