He's a Harvard grad who expects a lot but he's funny and knows what he's talking about. His hair: hahaha, you'll see.
not a bad professor. Actually made economics understandable and even interesting. Not an easy 'A' but not impossible either
Good teacher. Knows what he is talking about, class is pretty fun. If you don't know what you're doing you will have to work for your grade. He grades very fairly and on a curve!

He is an awesome teacher. He made economics fun and interesting. I highly recommend him, especially over Professor Incencio, the other econ professor. Note: He has great feathered hair, heh
Took Econ202 over the second summer session for the first time, did good even though I was half asleep many mornings. Class wasn't hard if you did your work. His high raspy voice annoyed me and his hair.... anyways not a bad teacher, definately recommended and better than Inocencio.
One of the best classes I have ever taken, way better than at the 4yr school I attended.
Have taken Economics with him the past 2 semesters. He is an amazing teacher, very passionate about his work. It is not a easy A, but if you work hard you will do great. He is always there for Help!!!
He's sounds like a broken record, and teaches like a Harvard dropout AND did you see that wig, why doesnt he just admit it? All jokes aside my honest opinion is he does not believe in anyone in the class he believes everyone can be corrected in someway or another. HE SOUNDS LIKE A GIRL!
Very good teacher. Makes economics interesting. Hard to get an A though.
You know, he didnt really like me becuse I was late to class, but coming from a full time job I dont know what he could expect. His voice is annoying, but its fun to zone out and stare at his hair. I recommend him, but not if your a late person like me.
I admired the way he is always confortable teaching his subject.Best economic teacher in Germantown. You earn your grade in his class. No easy"A".If you work hard and you deserve an "A" he will easily gives it to you.
The best professor ever!
I thought he was a very good teacher, he was very thorough when it came to explaining graphs and stuff. His book is also very helpful for his tests and in life. I got an A in both his classes and would recommend him for anyone who is willing to listen in class, that's all it took to know everything for the tests
Good teacher. If you show up and study all the material the class isn't too bad. It's boring, but not impossible.
Dedicated and enthusiastic. Not easy, but not too hard.
didnt learn too much in his class. u dont know how to study when the test coming, because he never use the book, so id you dont take a note u dead.
VERY GOOD TEACHER. LEARN ALOT IN HIS CLASS. YOU NEED TO READ HIS BOOK AND TAKE NOTES IN ORDER TO PASS AND DO WELL IN HIS QUIZES.
He is a great professor, I am now a student at the university of Maryland. He is the one who mad me want to major in economics. He isnt the easiest but he knows what he is talking about...he gave up a very high paying job with the government to teach at MC b/c that was what he really wanted to do. Very good guy
Excellent professor!!! As long as you understand his lecture in class, you'll do fine. He is treamely educated and smart. Graduated from Harvard!! I would definitely recommend anyone to take his class!
if you go to class and take notes, then study them before the test you don't need to read the book. he explains everything very well. and curves like crazy!
Take his course. He is very dedicated. Shows how econ applies to everything. Read his book. It is excellent.
Great Professor. Outstanding class.
he's a good teacher. you'll get a good grade if you pay attention on his lecture and come to class regularly.
Excellent professor. Very approachable, and really cares about teaching. His book is really nice too. Explains things a lot clearer and more concise than the textbook, which helps.
Was not a bad class but, I could've sworn I did much better than the C that I got.
He is amazing!!! Great teacher! He knows everything thing about Econ. My interest in Econ. began with his ECON 201 class. Go to class everyday or else you will miss a lot. Do the assigned reading it will help on the tests.
Great guy! If you attend every class and pay attention on his lecture you will do great. Exams are relatively easy if you understand the concepts. He is very clear in explaining and is always available and willing to help out.
I was in his online class there were a few classes on campus and it was great. He really made it interesting by helping you to understand how economics affects your life and how to use it in your life. I loved it! Great teacher always willing to help you.
His tests which are multiple choices are very difficult! Even I was reading all material in the book tree or four times and memoriazing difinistions are not helpful in order to pass his multiple choice test. Do not take if you want to have B or an A!
This guy is incredible, at the beginning of the semester he tells the class that the objective is to make you "think like an economist" and he will do just that. His class/ His teaching has changed the way I think about almost everything in life. Tests can be tough, but you will take home from this course.
He's a cool guy but I took the class to get a grade and keep it moving not become an economist. Half the time didnt teach out of the book. If you are all about being an economist, he's the teacher for you. Tests were hard.
Very good teacher and willing to help. Not an easy A, but gives good examples and not real hard tests. Highly recommended.
He is awesome, if you honestly pay attention, you should have no problem getting an A on every test. Miniquizes every friday. They're easy. His tests are not hard if you read over your notes & read his little book. I took EC202 got a B, and EC201 got an A.. He truly is an amazing professor, and I would advise everyone to take him. He also curves!!!
Took it over summer II. His EC202 is harder then EC201, only because there are more concepts to understand. But if you really pay attention and listen to what he says go home and review your notes and read your assignments... if you get anything below a B... you might as well quit and work at the Burger King across the school... He is great!
He is very organized and knows what he is talking about. He made economics an interesting subject. He always asks questions to students before he explains the concepts. If you're a good listener, you won't need the book because he always gives real life examples. I highly recommend him if you want to succeed.
great teacher, makes econ interesting. Hated his group assignments and silly econ games, especially if you get all slackers in your group, but he still grades fairly :-) Tests are MC/narrative mix. If you take notes, study the book, participate in class, and do the work he assigns, you will do well. gk
Loves teaching and it shows. He is also a true capitalist and likely to disagree with any other form of economics. Although... it is never clear where he stands politically, and that's how it should be. Nevertheless, his teaching style & methods leave a lasting positive impression. Earning an A is not easy but feels great b/c you worked for it. gk
He is very good teacher, who is always willing to help out his students and always making great connections to real world examples that you could relate too. He is the one who open my interest into Economic!!!
yea, those Group projects suck. The real joke is that he actually expects the good students to help bad ones... he even dictates it in the assignments. For a capitalist, that's a VERY socialist concept, haha. Since he curves all grades, why should a good student help a bad one? Isn't it in the A students' best interest to keep class averages low?
Very dedicated professor. Not too hard; not too easy. Makes econ interesting. Read his book it is great!
The class was great.... I learned much more than I ever thought possible... Econ is very cool and it makes you think....and Prof. M makes it understandable and clear.... do the work as listed and you will do great... He really pushes you to critically think... and his tests reflect this... In all it was a great class.
Prof. Madariaga is all for students. He is terrific professor.
Really hard prof... I'm a 4.0 sophomore student and I struggled to get an A. His tests are really really tricky, especially the multiple choice. Go to class, listen to everything, take excellent notes, and read the little book a zillion times. Work your ass off in this class, don't take it lightly!
Excellent prof. Makes you think. Not an easy A but fair grader. Makes Econ interesting. Read his book it is great!
Great at explaining Econ concepts and applying them to everyday life.I took the web class and I wished there were more in person sessions because he is so good.
AMAZING TEACHER! TAKE HIM! Even if you aren't a fan of economics you will greatly appreciate the subject after you take it with him. He is extremely helpful and if you take notes, listen to his lectures, do the readings, and study you will do well! I learned a lot! Best teacher ever!
I joined this class b/c of all the high ratings on this Page that he has received. I was really disappointed when I went through half the semester realizing that the biggest mistake I have made in my LIFE is taking his course. I was an econ major and I loved the stuff till this class. I am a dedicatedhard worker andnever missed a class, dont takeit
Best Econ professor at montgomery college. I travelled 1 hour everyday to germantown just for this class. Passed! Anyone with a bad rating is either lazy or dumb. Prof.M is worth the time and money!
His lectures were easy to understand and very entertaining. The mini quizes were rly easy and I got A's on all of them. However, the exams were the hardest part. the exams are weighted heavily..so if you're not a good "apply your knowledge" test taker, then dont take this class, I guarantee you will get a sad "C" like I did.
hes not bad. he expects you to read the textbook so he doesnt teach much in class. exams are hard
he gives quiz almost everyweek test are hard. good luck if you take him. you will need it!
Not hard/Not easy, Fair, Organized,Enthusiastic, Knowledgeable, Caring
Great Professor! Makes Economics interesting and easy to comprehend. I took him for both Econ classes and am very sad that I won't be in his classes anymore. You show up to class you will learn. Worth every penny! His classes fill up fast to register ASAP.
Best Econ Teacher in MC. Tests are very easy if you show up to class. Weekly quizzes also, that are pretty easy depending on reading and paying attention the previous lecture. If you show up to class and listen, easy B, if your study and show up, easy A
Prof. Madariaga is very passionate about his subject, he explains economics using real-world examples. However, his test are hard and some questions are VERY tricky. Make sure to read the textbook and his book.
He is a fair and passionate teacher.
After reading reviews, I had to take him! But obviously his in classroom class gets different attention than his online class. He RARELY helped or did anything for that matter. We basically taught each other. He sends weekly emails but otherwise unreachable. Emailed him so many time with no luck. DO NOT recommend for online course!!!!!
His partly online class is fine. The videos, readings, and discussion questions he assigns are good. He responds to all emailed questions promptly.
His class is very interesting, you won't be bored!!! But, the tests are extremely hard,, mini quizzes are not that easy,,, you need to understand and apply the concepts. Econ. is a confusing subject, don't take his class if you can't apply concepts, otherwise you will be disappointed and frustrated !!!
i took economy in high school and was really interested in expanding my knowledge. Unfortunately this professor wasnt the way to go. He is unwilling to work with students and has made me dislike economics. Whats the point of teaching? He is very anal and I had trouble learning under him. Save your money.
He's not easy. But he's fair and an excellent teacher.
If you like working extremely hard with very little reward then this is the class for you. Questions on tests can be completely random and not discussed in class. Teacher assigns groups then forces group work and assigned seating in horrible places. I knew he was going to suck when he assigned his own book for reading. DO NOT TAKE.
Those giving a bad rating probably didn't read. As long as you read & pay attention, the class is great. He is amazing at explaining concepts, answering questions in great detail, & ensuring understanding. Very approachable, charismatic, & friendly. Best professor I've had. But he won't just hand you A's. He expects you to earn it, as he should.
Continued from the last rating: Make sure you keep up with readings. Take good notes. Pay attention to the current events b/c he puts those on the test sometimes. Feel free to ask questions. He always asks for questions/comments at the beginning of class. Get close to your team. They can help you a lot. You'll be fine.
You have to study. But he is a fair grader and dedicated teacher.
Very knowledgeable professor. Exams were relatively straight forward. Make sure to read the text book. The book he wrote is also pretty helpful.
He will make you think. But you don't have to do any math. Read his book. It helps and it is very good.
Prof. Bruce was great. He makes you think and there's nothing wrong with that...you're in college. He will give you the grade you worked for, so pay attention in class and read and you'll be able to pass his class.
Good professor, I recommend! I took the hybrid class. There are about 9 in class sessions the rest of the class is online. You need to read the book. Extra credit opp at the end of the semester.
Greatest professor at the college by far. He is overqualified for MC. You have to read a little bit but he makes everything interesting and easy to understand by applying concepts to real life. I had no prior interest in economics and he made me want to major in it. If you don't take him you will be missing out.Best $400 I've ever spent on a class
Exams are extremely hard!!! You need to apply your knowledge to the questions. But, if you follow the direction, and do all the homework, you will be fine.
Your grade really depends on your team assignment (no flexibility), exams (you need to answer exactly the way he wants it. Exams are alright. No flexibility in class. Little extra credit. Picky and hard grader. I am 4.0 student and got my first B in this class. If you have all the time in the world for Econ - take it. If not - move on.
Prof. Madariaga does an awesome job teaching Econ. He not only presents the material in a way that is easy to understand, but also easily relatable. If you go to class and make sure to pay attention he goes over everything that would be on the exam! High quality Professor!
Read. Re read. Show up to class. Only people who failed were the ones who stopped coming to class. There are only three tests. Handful of short multiple choice quizzes.1 group assignment. 1 individual assignment. NO HOMEWORK. He is a very knowledgable and interesting professor just do your reading and you will get a lot out of the class.
Very good Professor! Teaches everything you need to know for the test. There are assigned readings, but everything on the test are in his lectures. Makes Economics an interesting class to be a part of. 1 group project, 1 individual assignment, and 3 tests(including final exam.) He doesn't take attendance, but if you don't show up you'll feel lost.
Good professor who knows his stuff about economics. If you do all the readings, the exams are extremely easy. Would recommend.
I think out team work was prefect! we worked together almost every day after the class and present our ideas clearly in presentation but he still gave a bad grade for us:( we had also asked him so many time when we have any problem. but somehow it seems that he still did not see our effort. he exams included too much details. hard grader...
If you read, do all your assignments, and help your teammates (yes, you will have teammates) you will do well. He's easy to talk with and willing to help students. He really knows and loves Econ. Be sure to read his book. It's good!
This class isn't an easy A, but if you do your readings, come to class, and participate, you will do well. Made concepts very clear, really engaging professor. Definitely would recommend.
Bruce has a good background. Used to work at the White House. He know economics very well and will answer questions accordingly. His class is not the easiest class. The subject itself can be tricky and his exam questions can have you scratching your head. After the first exam you know the details to look for and it becomes easier. Study.
This professor is very rude & non-helpful. He grades your assignments but gives no personal feedback on discussions. If you approach him for lenience, he says he cant because it would be unfair to the rest of the class. If you ask for assistance, says he cant answer until you take the exam. And, takes it personal if you don't read/agree w his book.
He's a very dedicated teacher who is always willing to help explain economics. He won't give you a high grade or breaks you didn't earn. But he is fair. You will have to read. But the books he assigns are free online!
This professor was seriously a disappointment. He gives mini quizzes and never really explain what you do wrong on them before the exams. He curves grades but the class average is still low. He teaches textbook style, but then expects students to be analytical when it comes to explain supply/ demand curves. Will not be taking him for ECON 202.
I took his online class, but I still thought he was an overall good professor. His syllabus was really clear and easy to follow and there weren't that many assignments to do either. His book is pretty interesting and short so reading it wasn't that much of a hassle. His tests/quizzes were a bit challenging at times, just make sure to study.
If you want to learn Econ do not take this class. If you want a somewhat easy class, here you go. Unclear on expectations and loves to tell you his views on Econ, if you disagree with his views you are wrong. Take Econ at Rockville, this class is a joke. Makes you buy his book and all he talks about is how he went to Harvard after CC.
Very dedicated prof who loves Econ. His book is good and he provides it free online. The textbook is also free online. He's not easy. But he is fair. Econ is interesting!
The best professor you can find in MC for ECON 201!!! The material is free online(textbooks) and his book is great! His lectures are interesting and entertaining, makes you feel involved. Project assignments are useful for further econ. Tricky tests(study AD and AS curves) do not miss his class, gives a lot of useful material for exam and tests.
This is one of those classes where you have to try to pass, His tests are very tricky and when answering questions on the exams, he expects you to use key words, otherwise you don't get full credit. he is one the best lecturers i have ever experienced, i barely read the Econ book because of it. Just Make sure you take good notes.
My favorite professor at mc! He's an expert in economics and makes everything simple enough to understand. I already liked economics but be made me love the concept and I feel like I can use what I learned out in the real world. Econ is hard but he's fair and gives great lectures. His tests are tricky but I would take another class with him!
Clap Clap Clap. Good Morning/evening everyone, today i will be explaining how this is one of the best Professors for your next econ class. He knows economics really well and one of the reasons why he works at MC is because he is happy with it. best lectures ever and if you listen carefully and take good notes it's an Easy B.
It was a difficult class for me. Could have been other factors involved, but the material required a different way of thinking which was challenging. Best way to learn this material is to apply examples that you can remember. I completed it within a half a semester so the class went extremely fast. Good Luck!!
Bruce Madariaga is a great prof. His class is all lecture, with some mini quizzes every other week. Defiantly read! It will help you understand his lectures and tests and the group/individuals assignments. Take notes and do not slack, this is not an easy A. You will learn a lot and work for your grade.
Not an easy A but it is possible as long as you keep up with the reading and practice. Make sure you understand the concepts for online discussions. He's a tough but fair grader, and he does curve final grades which is nice.
Definitely not an easy A class. He's an amazing professor but his quizzes are very challenging and confusing. Keep up with the discussion post or else your grade will go down. Study your quizzes for the final exam!!
I took Professor. Madariaga for my online summer class. He is a tough grader on discussion, however his quiz is not as hard as long as you read the book. His final exam contain some question from the quizzes and some writing, you need to take a look at his study guide for every quizzes and final exams then you can pass his class.
I would advise students NOT to take his class online. It is much better to take him in person. Quizzes are tough but professor did curve final grades (awesome!)
Dedicated and caring professor who loves Econ. He makes Econ interesting and useful. Fair but not easy grader.
It's worth the effort to take Prof. M's class. The class is by no means easy, but you will be fine if you read the book (given for free). Discussion post can be annoying (it's not graded for completion), but doable. To study, do the worksheets and review them before taking the quiz/exam. He loves AD/AS curves. He is responsive to questions online.
This guy doesn't give you full credit for anything and it's frustrating because most of the time you won't know why. You have to read a ton, but with it you have to mostly have to understand concepts, which some are difficult. Take good notes and I think you'll do okay. There's a ton of online posts to do which are annoying, but stay on top of them
THE worst professor I've ever had. He gives absolutely no help on any work because then he'd "have to help all his students," it's ridiculous. He won't clarify simple things for projects. He's an impossible grader & does NOT prepare you well for tests. I didn't think it could get any worse until we went online. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
Professor Madariaga's Intro To Microeconomics course is not easy and you do have to work for it, He never really gives full credit for anything so it can be frustrating. But he is super accessible outside of class time albeit for an online course. He is also mad chill and mad good at tennis. He cares about students and helps when needed. Love him!
Great class. Many interesting policy topics. Virus crises interupted class. Professor dedicated and fair.
Took this class online over the summer. All the learning comes from independently reading and watching what he assigns on Blackboard, so it's pretty difficult to stay motivated. His online discussion format on Blackboard helps contextualize the material. He provides good feedback and responsive answers to questions. Good professor!
This is one of those professors who sometimes forgets that he needs to understand that some students might need more help than others. He expects everyone to learn at his pace and doesn't provide much support. Grades extremely tough and doesn't seem to agree with anyone's points. The class isn't hard, he just made it that way.
Great professor, wrote a book that I would recommend. Super impressive how his schooling worked out. Brilliant man and an awesome teacher. Hes very understanding and you feel very accepted in his class. hes very communicative and very interactive with his students. great at explaining and asks multiple times if anyone needs help or has questions.
Impossible to get an A in this class. Incredibly tough grader, extremely hard quizzes. Not homework heavy, just a discussion post every week and a total of four study guides over the semester. Quizzes are open book, open note however I still never managed to get an A on any of the quizzes--questions are purposefully confusing and complex.
He is a cool guy who I thought graded fairly but questions were for sure hard considering on quizzes there would be 3 questions and if you get one wrong then you get a 66% . There isn't a lot of work at all but I loved that.
Great professor. Teaches concepts well. Study guides due after every 3 chapters before tests, and a couple assignments. He doesnt overload you with busywork, but there are opportunities to boost your grade. He does grade on a strange scale though. So assignments are worth maybe 2 points at most. The final is worth 30, so you have to do well
Professor Madariaga is lazy. When asked for feedback on course work to earn a better grade he will respond, "I don't have time to look at everyone's work" meaning he will never give you a 100% no matter how hard you work. He shows a lack of empathy for any of his students. I honestly believe he does not want anyone to succeed in his class.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Constant discussions on many controversial topics, open-book exams that were never too difficult, great lectures, and few projects that were really fun to work on. I would absolutely retake his class or anything by Professor Madariaga. Great teaching style.
Rarely is there any teacher that I found to actually care about the student's success in class and in LIFE. Thank you to Prof. Madariaga! Economics is a difficult subject but he made it more understandable.
Pros: He's really good at teaching and knows his stuff, and his class is interesting, projects are really fun to work on, lots of discussion Cons: He doesn't give a lot of criteria or really any feedback at all, his tests are open note but kind of have trick questions
took ECON 201. literally terrible. DOES NOT SPECIFY ANYTHING ON RUBRIC. he says that he will only grade ONE out of THREE module posts as your final grade for that week, and says that he will never give out 100s for discussion. also asks that students do not email him, but post questions in a discussion board, but never answers them clearly? avoid!!
Decent summer class with not a lot of assignments. There's usually 3 discussion board posts per week, followed by a study guide and then a quiz afterwards. Madariaga can be stingy with points - so make sure to read his directions carefully. Use the study guides and past quizzes to study for the final.
Not available outside of class (Wont respond to Emails), so boring, Just Very unpleasant.
Took micro at Rutgers with Prof. Madariaga. Lectures are straight to the point and his tests/quizzes very specifically follow what is shown in class. Tests are quick and all multiple choice. If you're not interested in econ, this class may bore you. Overall, great professor and very straightforward assignments. Pay attention and you'll do well.
Clearly cares a lot about teaching you the material in a way that you'll understand it. Grade only based on 3 tests, 3 mini quizzes, and 3 EC study guides that are only 1 point each, so you have less room for error. Sparks some interesting conversations about real-life scenarios to help you practice decision making. Overall very valuable teacher
Dedicated teacher. Not easy, but fair.
This was a compacted class, it was hard, a lot of reading, and it was totally online. I knew this was going to be tough but having a professor that was so pompous to the point where he was teaching from his own book, I knew this should have been a red flag. No active feedback whatsoever, this man is RUBBISH don't waste your time or money with him!!
Excellent Professor IF you really want to understand Econ. He is willing to help.
I took his summer DL Econ 201 class & it was a handful. The material is fully given to you. But, hes never available outside of bb; will not respond to emails. Never gives out perfect grades so good luck trying to earn an A with him. Heavy reads, 3 disc post a week but only 1 is graded. 4 quizzes, small writing assignment & final exam. Good luck!
He's very responsive to questions. Good Blackboard site. He's not easy, but he's fair enough.
hard class with less opportunities to improve.
Go to class eventhough it is not required
good by heart but not so good for grading.
Excellent teacher!
Classes are well-organized.Inconsistent grader. Professor states certain assignments are graded for completion, full points are rarely awarded. Feedback is rarely given. Expectations for theoretical questions in discussion posts are unclear, points are deducted if students don't align with the professor's analysis, even if multiple answers exist.
Great class. He works hard and loves Econ. Exams make you think and are not easy. But grading is fair.
Professor Madariaga's class is challenging, but rewarding. The grading is strict yet fair, and his teaching style sparks engaging discussions. unstuck ai proved invaluable for study prep.
