I was hoping for a good learning experience. I was disappointed.
a wasted semester.
I guess that I am not alone in disliking this prof.
insecure much? Don't try to appear confident with your big words!!!
A very nice man just don't know how to be organized and teach tthe material at o
Unorganized, did not teach the basics expected a lot !
Nice yes, but I want a professional to help me learn the concepts of this course

Worst ever! Put others down to feel good! Should be removed from faculty!!!!
Avoid if possible! Has nothing good to say!!!!
At least it's over. What a waste
If he was my only choice I'd seriously consider another career.
Avoid this one if at all possible, unless you like teaching yourself!!
too bad you can't give out 0's AVOID
He seems angry at the world. Also, no one is as smart as him.
He expected us to be experts in computers on the first day.
What a hellish way to learn computers!
As a professor he can be vague and even misleading. Good researcher, bad prof!
This could have been a great course, but the prof ruined it again.
very, very, unclear, changes his opinions on your work a million times. Go back and see him MANY times if you want an A.
I am probably going to get an A in this class, but not because of the prof. I knew a great deal when I entered the class, which is the only thing that saved me in this class.
Great prof, nice guy, gave excellent assignments and individual help where needed.
He sucks!! his expectations are too high. You would have to be a genius in computers and know everything there is to know to earn his respect. Otherwise he thinks you are some stupid low life who belongs back in kindergarten
Talk about antisocial! This guy has no desire to help students become good teachers. His is VERY unclear and constantly changes his mind about what he wants to fit his mood. This guy should have been fired long ago!!! Get rid of him!!
Yes, he puts you through the wringer. You have to work hard for an A. He is "hard" in many ways but that didn't stop me from taking other courses. The world's full of different people...I learned a lot from him. If you have a problem with him, t
i am new to this rating system but i had to stop and say that i had this ......well i'll leave what i think of him personally out and just say that it is a shame that contracts keep back profs at mun.

THIS COURSE IS A WASTE OF TIME! I am paying this unversity for a good education but how can you learn when you have an professor who can't teach! If you want to learn something and want a professor who can teach you, I'd advice that you dont get him
Run, run, run, don't look back!! Just run!!
Bruce makes you work hard and think which may be two things people object too! I have found him to be fair, helpful, and full of advice and sources of info for research. I would recommend him for at least 1 course in the program!
avoid this teacher
Changes his mind all the time on project requirements and expectations. Unavailable most of the time. doesn't take into consideration those of us who are not techies.
"Multiple personalities" would describe our Dr. Mann perfectly.....A bad teacher, he lacks in people skills and manners, which makes me wonder how can he be teaching education??(I think something is wrong:)) Stay away if you can!!!
Arrogant man who, likes to play with the minds of his students. I have learned absolutely nothing from him but how to remember to avoid him in further courses.
An asylum would be a more appropriate institution for this individual. I had a perfect A average until I unfortunately encountered this nut.
Disturbingly unclear. Lack of direction and focus for student evaluation. Organized? ie. Gave book readings for assigned readings - book had not been ordered for bookstore. Disappointing experience in this class... not like other profs from MUN.
My classmates & I have no idea how we are being marked - no criteria given. Marks don't match my marks in other courses. I worked my guts out, only to get a crappy mark. He seems to care but is not a good communicator. Typical techie- speaks Kligon I bet.
ONE course with this guy knocked me off the dean's list. Enough said.
Instructions make no sense, nor does the assignments he gives as part of the course design. Very argumentative, and makes you feel like your opinion means nothing.
I had this guy for one course and, honestly, he's not as good as the NEGATIVE comments make him sound... as to the positive comment at the start of this rating? He must have put that there himself. Horrible prof.
I had this prof for one course in the Master's of Teaching program and there were 23 students there on the first day, by the end of Septmeber I was the only one left, that shd tell you something, I needed the course as a requirement. Horrific
a non-academic mind, should be working in a gov't. office.

Boo to you. Hard to avoid this teacher because he teaches all the computer courses, but man he SUCKS. He made me hate that year of my life! Thanks Bruce
no problem with him. helped me alot and gave good grades!!

very unclear in his instructions
Horrible teacher!!!! He graded my assignment without even reading it!!DICK!! He contradicts everything that he sais drom one day to the next. Also his grading is subjective of his own personal opinion, no grading rubric..NOTHING
This man is not a nice person. He is mean, snobby and rude. He is a terrible example for people like me who are studying to be teachers! Yes, he does know his stuff and could probably tell you anything you wanted to know about computers, but he is the worst teacher ever, avoid him if you can!
Ridiculous! He can't teach, has no idea what teaching is and is a horrible example to future teachers! He changes his mind on stuff EVERYDAY!He has no rubrics or lesson plans. He is intolerant to opinions other than his own.Even heard other profs complain about this guy.Something has to be do done.
Awful Prof, I would advise furture Education studtents to try to avoid his class! He does not know how to teach, at all! He is not helpful, changes his mind all the time. He suppose to teach us to be able to teach, but he can not teach himself!. He is also a BRUTAL and UNFAIR marker!
Dr. Moronn has to be THE absolute WORST professor at MUN. He comes in late EVERY single day, does NOT teach ANYthing, grades papers without even looking at them, changes his mind from one day to the next, will not give a straight answer about anything, and is a very mean person in general.
If this is what the Faculty of Education is all about, then you can have it. What a waste of a course. Even worse, to be subjected to someone like him. Maybe it would be a better experience if Bill Tracey taught it. Something tells me - YES !
THE worst prof I have ever had at Memorial. The course is frustrating, he gives no set objectives/evaluation criteria, changes his mind constantly about what he wants from students, and then gives low grades when you follow his original evaluation scheme. Horrible, AVOID him if at all possible.
This guy is crazy. He has no teaching experience, and appears to know nothing about children! People in the class have questioned him about marks he gave them and on the next assignment we did for him he nearly failed them! Worst prof ever, avoid him at all costs!
You think he would have the common courtesy to show up for class on time - and to NOT interrupt while the microteaching is going on !
The most pompous, arrogant, rude man to ever grace the MUN campus. He is a disgrace for a human being who knows nothing about teaching or teaching students with fairness or respect. DO NOT get this prof for this course if you value your university career at all. Trust us.
He's a perfect "bad example" of a teacher, in teaching strategies and personality. He even grades papers without reading them. Avoid him, or you'll regret it. He's worse than you've heard.
not as bad as people make him out to be. do what he asks and you'll do ok.
It was my 1st course at MUN and it almost made me quit my Masters. I did complete my studies with honors and received a Fellow of Graduate Studies.
i think hes really nice, little odd tho.
No, he isn't as bad as people make him out to be--he's WORSE! Even if you do EXACTLY what he asked you to, he'll still mark you down for it. The man is impossible to please as he changes his mind from one day to the next, so asking him for guidance is useless. Ask anyone, and they will tell you the same thing.
without a doubt the worst instructor ever. he didn't care at all about the students. he is teaching a course for education (primary/elementary) but yet has never actually taught primary elementary. he actually told me to change my career because being a teacher is not for me. what right does he have to tell a student this based on one presentation.
Bruce is very knowledgeable; however he lacks interpersonal skills in online communication and does much better on the phone. I suggesty talking to him in person if possible. His directions are much clearer that way.
I can't believe this moron. The other sections are learning things...getting into the lab. Mann's section are totally frustrated. OF COURSE YOU READ THIS, MR MANN - THEN WAKE UP AND TEACH !!!
Arrogant, s.o.b.
Arrogant S.O.B. If he tried in a K-12 classroom what he gets away with in university classrooms, the parents would kick the s**t out of him.
useless. mean, arrogant.
Teadh us stuff that's relevant to teaching and don't be arrogant!!
Not organized. Isn't up to date with what he's teaching. Doesn't really know what he is teaching one day to the next. He grades based on how he feels that moment. No text, no notes, no idea what you will be tested on. No feedback, huge attitude. He told me education students, from his research, get a free ride and we do no work. Avoid his class...
He is the worst professor I have encountered.
Run! You'll thank me later. What a waste of time and money. I just can't articulate what I want to say. It is THAT bad. Useless, Incomprehensible, Arrogant Idiot.
A difficult professor to work with. If your area of interest is not within his scope of knowledge you will have a very difficult time. He sees the world only through his glasses and seems to have difficulty seeing anything else. If your thinking doesn't fit within his, your doomed. Cause he will see you as inferior and the belittling will start...

He was not helpful, very brief in his communications online and did whatever he could to make submission of my work difficult.
Terrible. This professor has crushed my hope in not only Education but academia in general. This professor will actually RUIN your life.
Arrogant, know-it-all, hothead.
Another comment a few years back says it well,"Run". Comes across as arrogant with no interest and will not respond to emails. Lots of work, which is not a problem, but no grade reqard benefit to doing it. MANY dropped course. More into publishing and less into instructing. I do NOT recommend this professor.
He'll give you a number for your marks but no other feedback so you won't know where you went wrong! Generally does not reply emails and any response is very brief.
This is the worst professor I have ever had in my undergrad, teacher's college and my masters program. Instructions made no sense for assignments, amount of work was insane and he was very condescending.
Prof. Mann is one of the Best professors any student could have. He sincerely wants to impart his knowledge to the student. On the outside,he puts on a shell..he is actually very sympathetic about peoples problems. He always wants to help the best he can. He expects alot from his students, but hey..we are attending University! Thank you Prof.Mann
Massive work for no marks. No guidelines at all. Bad prof
I can't give 0s. I have no problem with working hard for a class. He gives A LOT of work. I have a problem with submitting a 4000 word paper after having NO GUIDELINES, only to find out that we didn't have to write it, and it's not being marked. 90% of readings are his articles, and not at all useful. NO guidelines, no clarity, no response to email
When I read the comments here, I thought, "Ahh, these are a bunch of complainers who don't know how to do grad level work." I was wrong. The comments here are spot on. I have never seen poorer instruction and even worse communication. By the end, the only thing that surprised me was was the MUN allows this nonsense to continue. Avoid at all costs.
I have never had an issue with an instructor before. The instructional design course has such poor instructional design to it that the irony scale broke. Terrible instruction. Remarkably unclear. No guidelines. Condescending. No feedback. Asks the world, but doesn't tell you which one. Turns out he wanted Mars not earth. Run forest run!!!
Dr. Mann is an excellent professor that really cares about his imparting his knowledge to his students. I would take a course with him again anytime.
Somebody needs to teach this man how to to teach.
This was the most frustrating course of my master's program. Dr. Mann provided extremely little details about assignments, was terrible at answering questions. Though, do not spend too much time worrying about assignments, I had no idea what the expectations were and did fine in terms of marks. Just write something and don't overthink it.
ED6822 with Dr. Mann was one of the most stressful and overwhelming experiences of my academic career. Students are given no indication of guidelines or expectations, and questions to Dr. Mann received unintelligible answers. Most students dropped the course. The course content is good but it's not worth dealing with him. Absolutely horrible.
As a grad student, work is expected (and a lot at that). However, respectful communication and feedback are also expected. This prof has put zero time into responding to or cultivating any class culture in the online courses I have been forced to take with him. MUN gets a zero for allowing him to continue. Does not know how to teach. RUN!
Not accessible, does not respect student concerns or input, unresponsive to emails, and if your area of interest does not overlap with his, get ready for difficulty with grading (he will make up new expectations not listed in the assignment description or will completely change expectations after submission) AVOID AT ALL COSTS. DOES NOT TEACH.
Very vague instructions. No feedback given until you get a terrible mark but with no justification. He will copy and paste the instructions from the syllabus when a student asks for clarification. Spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I was supposed to be doing. Asks students to read and write about articles he has written in their essays.
Be prepared: Scroll through all the comments below, everyone's negative feedback still holds true and is accurate in 2021. Advice: If you're forced to take a course, document/screenshot all feedback. Reach out to student services when he choses to ignore you or not respond. Don't expect help from him, talk to your peers to work out expectations.
Uses his own unpublished incomprehensible readings and makes you use them in your assignments. Copy and pastes from the syllabus when someone asks for clarification. Assignment descriptions are completely incomprehensible and he had so many errors in the syllabus he had to change it at least 4 times during the semester. Rude and confusing answers.
Unclear expectations. Assignments impossible to complete because of incomprehensible instructions. When you ask a question, he answers with something completely unrelated, or doesn't answer at all. Will even tell you you are wrong if you quote himself to him. MUN should be ashamed. This is not what education is supposed to be like.
Expects you to be a mind reader to understand and be successful with his assignments. The syllabus is not clear, instructions are very vague, no grading criteria presented, and no feedback until the final grade. Copies from the syllabus if you ask a question - if he responds at all. Terrible that MUN stands by this type of education.
Beyond the worst prof I have ever had. AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do everyone a favour and fill out a review here to give other students a good idea of what they would be dealing with. Does not respond to emails. Does not have notes. Assignments make no sense. So many more things that you should avoid his classes no matter what. RUN RUN RUN!!!!
Rarely responds to questions or replies to emails by copying and pasting from the syllabus. Syllabus contains errors and the description of assignments are very vague. Does not provide specific feedback for assignments, and criticism does not match rubric. Samples for assignments does not match the requirements listed on the syllabus.
He sets unrealistic expectations. He forgets that students are doing other courses and have a life too. There is just too much work. This course was useless for my masters degree. It was not the least bit practical nor applicable. I would not recommend this prof nor this course to anyone.
He was nearly impossible to contact with questions, did not clearly explain assignment criteria, and did not follow his own grading system. His syllabus was full of errors and had clearly not been updated for this term.
I have been a Memorial University student for a combined 7 years and have never rated a professor on here. I created a RateMyProfs account just to review this professor. Expectations are extremely unclear and very little guidance is given with regards to what is required for assignments. Professor expects you to read his mind. Avoid at all costs!
Instructions for assignments are very unclear.
Research on Computers in the Curriculum sounds like a course where we would learn about research on using computers and such resources in teaching. Instead, most of the posts we were required to write about twice each week had little to do with computers or curriculum, and the chapters written by Dr. Mann were often written very confusingly.
I would give up my eye balls than see this professor again. He brings the mun tech program down about 100 points. Awful. Avoid if you can. Any other option is better I promise you.
There are 3 certainties in life: death, taxes, and Bruce man being the WORST professor of your life. Avoid at all cost. I would transfer universities if it meant not having to do courses with him.
This professor has a specific teaching style, but engaging with it can pay off. For study help, ChatGPT and Unstuck ai were lifesavers. Careful with assignments - instructions can be unclear.
Feedback was given at a respectable time frame however, the feedback was not consistent with what was written. It was as if the assignment wasn't read. Response to emails was poor. Questions were not answered. There is a detailed rubric, but was not followed and unclear - when asked questions regarding the assignments no clear instruction is given.
I was hesitant to register for his course due to low ratings, but he turned out to be as good as most of my other professors at MUN, and they were all good. Cons: - Too many discussion posts, - Was late to respond to my question once. Pros: - Excellent, detailed feedback, - Great tips for future assignments, - Detailed responses to questions.
