I'm not sure what the other two of these ratings are talking about! He is a fantastic teacher who keeps you involved.

He's an amaizing teacher... he keeps you involved and the lectures that he assigns are very interesting and not boring... Explains very well and is willing to help with eveything you might need to write your paper... He sends tons of homework a you have about 6 papers in the semester which are very demanding. I definelty recommend him

Martin is a wonderful teacher and comes highly recommended. You will do a lot of papers throughout the semester, but it's only to help you.

Yes, he DOES assign a lot of papers! If that's what you like, fine. But compared to what I've heard about other English 1301 professors, this guy really gives a lot of work! Don't take this class if you're already taking hard classes like psych or biol, because you will be writing a lot of papers: Six, each 3-7 pages, plus a 10-page research paper!

I just wrote the previous comment & realized that I did not mean for a "good quality happy face" to appear next to my rating-I wanted a neutral face. I don't know how to change that & I can't find anything here to even create the faces. Although Mr. Martin gives too much work, his lectures (political) are engaging and he really is a good professor.

Mr. Martin is a great teacher. I plan to take his English 2 class whenever I get a chance. He helped me so much in class & I have a hard time learning with certain teachers. But not with him. What I liked most was the debates. And from what I hear, his Engl. 2 class is nothing but debates. Cool, if you like that kind of stuff.

I had to drop english in the previous summer semester due to issues and took the next summer session with this teacher. I regret dropping the last class because this teacher has a heavy workload and alot more reading than the last class I was in. Each day there were 2-3 different tasks plus a paper was due every week. Stay away.

Wellll his class is somewhat boring and pretty freaking hard..hes a good teacher but who cares! he still gives wayy to much homework..doesnt he know that we have other classes as well?! i truly dont recommend him AT ALL!. the freaking essays you have to write are freaking long and the lectures pweeeefff lets not even go there...!

His class is extremely easy, as long as you are willing to do the work he assigns. He grades very easily, too. Just follow his instructions, and you should get a decent grade. I personally enjoyed his class and got an A in it.

Took him for minimester gave so much homework every night and a paper due in three days on top of that. Not a fair teacher at all would not take his class at all so boring and thinks very highly of himself.

This isn't an easy class, it will take a great deal of focus and discipline, but the knowledge that you will absorb from this class will be tremendous. This will really help you in your college assignments.

He grades easy. Just do your work. You have to try a little harder to get an A, but he gives you a B if you do the work.

His class is not extremely difficult. When he first gives an assignment it seems overwhelming but he goes step by step through all papers. So do your work and you will be fine!

He is one of the best teachers I have ever had; I actually remember what I learned. If you do not mind putting in a little hard work or studying time he is the teacher for you. I took his class during the summer and he put the whole 16 weeks into 6 weeks, at time it was challenging. After a little hard work, and late night; I passed his class!

Great Professor! Yes he does give homework, but he explains and gives you exactly what he wants. He is thorough and clear. Sense of humor makes class go by and gives you time. Returns work fast and is available all the time. Ask questions and speak in his class you will do fine!

Mr. Martin is very specific for what he looks for in papers. Overall he seems O.K. He does give amounts of assignments and he is funny, at times. However, if you cant write well, DONT TAKE HIS CLASS. He DOES NOT grade easy!

Took him for my first english class in college ever! He was very rough on me and we always argued during discussion. I worked extremely hard on his papers and tests. They were not a piece of cake at all!!!! However, I must say for the people who are good writers, take him. My writing talents increased tremendously after I took his class. No regrets

Great professor! He is a little rough but the work is easy. He likes to be able to understand the students and has a sense of humor. You do have to write a lot. Honestly my writing skills have become better and he is one of my favorite professors. Also offers meetings outside of school and takes time out of his life to help you out.

Professor Martin is very intelligent and knowledgable. He expects his students to be able to do the work that he posts. WARNING: His class is a heavy workload, essays due almost every 2 weeks, you are required to outside of school to do projects and research. IF YOURE LOOKING FOR AN EASY "A" THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT THE CLASS TO SIGN UP FOR.

He is a very understanding, but can be a pain in the ass. He has worked very hard to be where he is at and will assist students and give them pointers. I have been out of high school for over 10 years and I enjoy the challenges he gives me. I am already signed up for his 1302 class next semester. Take his class!!!!!!

Mr. Martin challenged everyone in the class to focus and learn. As a consequence it brought out the best in the students who accepted the challenge by working hard and paying attention. You will appreciate how much you have learned when you enter into the advanced classes of your college career. I thank him daily!!!!!!!

Awesome teacher! As long as you keep up with his work, you should do well in his class. Very understanding and I can honestly say I've never liked an english class until this one.

Rude gives a lot of work to the point were he confuses you

Very Rude and disrespectful. Grades extremely hard and isn't helpful. Heavy workload in a short period of time. I especially don't recommend taking him during a summer session. You really have to make him help you if you don't understand. Also he tends to make you feel stupid if you don't understand. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!

Mr. Bruce is an amazing teacher, but he is also a very hard teacher. You have to work hard to get a good grade, but he will make time for you if you need help. Very helpful!

Professor Martin means well but................... is all over the place! He is a motivator as a person but not as a teacher. He doesn't realize that his class isn't the ONLY class you are taking. Over half the class dropped out........... that's not good. I thought it was just me at first. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS IT'S THE ONLY CLASS YOU HAVE

Just don't take it if you have 3 other classes and can pull all kinds of hours out of your days to do his work.

Be prepare to write an essay every week, it was very hard to complete an essay every week since I work almost full time. yes, if you talk to him he'll extend it but you will have to deal with to essays by then..

Best teacher ever. Get to know him not only show up to class and expect to pass. He is very helpful and can meet with him outside of school to do school work. So far he is my favorite teacher at Lone Star but he does make you work for your grade. Very outspoken and fights for students rights.

This class definately makes you a better writer and thinker but he can be very demeaning and sometimes extremely rude. Passed with an A but I had to put in work and hours. If you're not a reader and hate writing for hours, beware.

He was a good teacher and gave excellent feed back. He was also very easily accessible to get help outside of class.

Participation matters! 8 or 9 800-2000 word essay projects back to back with a academic reading assignment (one or two) thrown in between. He's only available for tutoring from 12pm-1pm which sucks if you have class during that time, but he is available for one-one meeting @ starbucks if willing. Nice prof. but don't take if you can't handle!

If you don't go to class everyday, then YOU WILL fall behind. It is possible to catch up, but it will take a very long time. Very hard to work with.

I was switched into Prof. Martin's class against my will. He had us go and buy a different text book than the one we had and it wasn't fully in english. After expressing concern he told us to use google translate. I ended up dropping since there was a paper every week having to do with the community around the school which idk. Don't recommend!

He's very rude and, doesn't keep anything straight to the point for you to understand it. He also doesn't help out when you need it he just tells you over and over that you are a college student you have to figure it out on your own & you need to read the instructions & syllabus even after you have reread and asked for help multiple times.

Professor Martin is a wonderful professor. He is deeply passionate about his work. He makes you stand on your own. He challenges you. He is EXTREMELY difficult and time consuming if you don't have a vehicle. All of your projects will center around Aldine and local government. Take it if you want an Ivy League-level class. Very hard, yet wonderful.

It's been a few years since I've attended Professor Martin's class, but I had to write this review because if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be attending U of H. I took him my first semester, everything beyond that was child's play. If you want an easy pass, don't take him. If you pass this class, You'll dominate all others from now to University!

He was my first Professor when I started college the 1st time in 2011 that really gave me the sense 'this is college'. He is hard, but fair. I took more away from this class than just about any other one I've ever done. You WILL learn in this class, or you'll fail, no in between. Wonderful teacher, and wonderful person.

The course was tough but I made it. well respected but expect drive also tip write down group memebers name and activites. You will thank me in the end. He is not an easy A but he will let you redo the assignment as well as to provide feedback. Read your readings as well as read in advance.

NOT an easy A; u need to put the work in. ALL the papers we did were focused on the Aldine area, so if u arent willing to write about Aldine then this isnt a course for u. Im not even from Aldine, but I happened to manage. U need to actually go to places in Aldine for some of his assignments, so this can be tricky if you dont drive/have a car

This is a college level course. Spent all of the summer semester writing papers, don't take if you're expecting an easy A. But, if you're willing to learn time management and have 6+ hours a day to spend writing, this is the class for you. Seriously, if you want a university-level class, this is it.

The class was hard. We had to do essays, posters for the essay, & a blog for the essay. I wouldnt take him if you dont have time to fully focus on the class.

Professor Martin has by far been my favorite Professor. I learned a lot about what rhetoric really means and why it's so important. It is a lot of reading and also a lot of writing, but if you commit to it and pay attention it then you will definitely pass. He is also very accessible and provides plenty of resources to help with writing papers.

he is very political, and his papers are very biased, like it wouldn't matter if he did have a different opinion but, he is very biased about what he talks about in class. Some days we don't even discuss English topics but instead watch very boring political documentaries. I would highly recommend not taking his class.

Dr Martin is very political and focuses on stuff within the community, so if you DONT Have time to be writing 900-1200 letter essays, DO NOT take him. He is a great professor. Tough grader. Lots of Work. But I will have to say that he certainly will prepare you as a College student.

im just going to say this if our not passionate about writing or dont like writing dont take his class a lot of people on here that passed his class are 9 times out of 10 writers hes so political its crazy he grades hard. im going to be honest im not writer at never have been and never will be so if your NOT A WRITER DONT TAKE .... Amazing professor. He doesn't believe in exams so he gives you projects. He actually does use the textbook for class. Don't miss out on the Daily homework where you basically put your opinion what you read. You can meet him after class, and he will give you more ideas on what he wants on his project.

Prof. Martin is the best professor I've ever met at Lone Star College-North Harris. He is really helpful, kind and motivator. He helps you in other things including the scholarships application process, finding scholarships and so on. He really cares about his students and assists to write perfect papers throughout the semester.

A really good professor. As my first semester in college, he made it seem not that bad. A really organized professor with a great personality. He cares for his students and you can tell he is into the material he assigns as well. I would take his class again for sure, and his class is challenging.

His class is probably more difficult than other ENGL 1301 classes, but his class and the work you do will easily prepare you for other college level classes/college level writing. Start on projects early, this is not a class you can wait to do last minute work. He is a tough grader, but he's very caring and helps out A LOT during his office hours.

Professor Martin is a very knowledgeable & intelligent English Professor. He is one of those teachers that goes the extra mile & is always willing to help his students. Unfortunately, he just wasnt a good fit for me. The work load is heavy, he is a VERY tough grader, and it often times wasnt exactly clear on what it is that he is looking for.

This man is infuriating to deal with. He will give you a mountain of busy work discussion posts that are NOT FOR A GRADE, but then will not let you start the projects THAT ARE FOR A GRADE unless you do the ridiculous busy work. His rubrics are never clear, on top of that he grades everything like it's a masters level course. NEVER take him.

Professor Martin does help everyone to try to succeed in his class, however it becomes apparent in his lectures as to what his political opinions are, since he integrates it into his curriculum, which I find to be rather unprofessional. Taking his class will definitely turn you into a better writer though.

I would not take this class because he will pile work on you i spent about 3-6 hours on this one course a day and i had to drop it because it was just entirely too much. He is not a very great professor he does not explain anything it is almost like he expects you to read his mind to know what he want. DO NOT take his class take someone else.

Took English 1301 during the summer and did around 5-6 essays in a span of about 4 weeks. His class is very politically motivated which I am not a fan of. Gives decent feedback regarding essays but does not really help students who need it unless they approach him. Other homeworks include discussions and being politically outspoken.

This guy was over the top on requirements. Discussions are not for grades but you have to do them in order to get what you actually need. Feed back was terrible. I spent 4-6 hours a day trying to keep up. Everything was politically driven which will make you feel uncomfortable.

I loved this class, although the time to write papers was longer than Id like I got to see a different perspective. The required reading is eye opening. If you want to learn different perspectives and make friendships in his group projects, take this class. If you just want to pass by college doing the bear minimum, dont take him.

I took Dr. Martins class during the summer mini semester and it was challenging however I learned a lot from him. He gives you the opportunity to send your papers to a tutor at least twice. Yes the class was hard but I got a lot out of it. It was challenging in a good way. I respect him, he is wise.

I enroll in the English course 1302, got my assignments turn in and work hard for my grade. Ask for his help and Professor Martin is there to help you.

Okay, I am going to be completely honest. This was my fist semester in college and I did have a good experience with his class. Sure, he does give you prompts that will have you thinking for long periods of time but at the end of the day he is preparing you guys to be better writers for future English classes. He TRULY cares about his students.

Dr. Martin is very nice and understanding. He doesn't give you a grade just a pass or fail- he believe you should do assignments based on skill verus wanting a grade. He HELPS!! Other teachers could careless, but he works based off of what is BEST FOR YOU!!!

If u have busy schedule look for another teacher. Grade consist of attendance 50% , reading logs, 4 major writings, and other small writings. U wont know grade until the last week. His instructions/due dates were sometimes not clear, and there was a lot on confusion in class. Textbook is not really mandatory, i didn't use the access code on mine.

Two days into the class I begged to drop, but I wasnt going to be refunded. . Too much unnecessary work for the class. Most of his hw takes hours and he will assign too many assignments for one day. You will have no life outside of his class, go take an easier teacher and get the same credits for it. Picky about everything as well.

Professor Martin is a tough grader, and you are expected to read and complete assignments in a timely manner. If anything comes up unexpectedly he will work with you. He is honest about grading, and he will appreciate it if you are honest with him as well. If you like a challenge, take his class.

Dr. Martin was a great professor and was very clear about what he expected from the students. Grading is done holistically. However, if you have other commitments, I would prevent students from taking his course during the summer. He is strict with deadlines, and daily assignments might become too much for students with other important commitments.

He a good professor don't get me wrong, but his homework is too much and it will have you stressing 24/7 I dropped after just a couple of days & couldn't imagine if I would've stayed. He gives good feedback & cares about your growth but unless you're a writing major looking for criticism and hefty work loads to improve this isn't the class for you.

He really does care about teaching AND learning. He's lenient. not a tough grader, you can scrape by and still get a 100% on almost all your assignments. I took the 8 week class, so there was a lot of work. he refuses to use email which was inconvenient. very politically correct and aware, if that makes you uncomfortable, don't go to college.

Dr.Martin's 1302 coursework was painfully narcissistic and heavily focused on His political views. Work takes hours; extensions are never allowed for online courses and He is not responsive to any emails you'll send him. I dropped this course a month in, not worth it.

This guy is WAY out there! While I would have preferred learning how to write effective college essays, we learned more about his political views, which are far left wing and Marxist. He didn't seem to care if our work was well-written as long as it matched his politics. I had to visit my GOVT prof to make sure that my papers were Marxist enough.

He was okay but definitely gives you lot of homework, you have daily writings, quizzes, and a final longggg essay. It's like a research paper with recordings, a log, photos, an essay and other stuff. He doesn't like it when you come late to his class he will not let you in until like 20 minutes pass by. Gives good feedback but a harsh grader.

Compassionate professor. He takes the time to listen to students, and for struggling students he provides solutions. I can vouch for Prof. Martin; he single-handedly elevated my mediocre level of reading & writing skills. I was enrolled at LSC-NH. Not only was the class difficult to understand with the four main projects needed to pass, but if you missed one of the main assignments, you failed the class automatically. I did not like that he added all male students from his classes to a Discord. As well as being somewhat sexist. Won't take his class EVER again.

This Professor is one of the worst professors I have ever had. I am convinced he does not like women. He dismisses the women while he tutors the men after class. asked him wat questions I got wrong on a pop quiz he told me that it wasn't his problem he wasn't a tutor. I believe that he has a power trip and gets off on making his students miserable.

Dr. Martin is a tough grader and very strict on deadlines. I did very well throughout the whole fall semester completing almost everything and receiving a 100 for everything I did. The class consisted of 4 major projects and if you fail one of them despite if you're doing good in his class you fail the whole course. Do not recommend him.

If you try, he will help you! 4 major projects, meet with him to make sure you're on the right track. Dr. Martin is very considerate if you put in the effort. My biggest regret was not keeping track of the daily writings he had his students do weekly. In my opinion, he is a little male-orientated. Just see him after class if you have questions, keep track of the work, and make sure you do the major projects and you'll get a good grade.

I took this class a few semesters back and I would like to make other students aware, about my experience. I can describe most days as horrible, no matter how hard you try it won't be enough and your grade will reflect. It's one thing to challenge your students, but it's another to value political aspects rather than the work itself. GOOD LUCK YOLO

Dr. Martin ignores emails, runs a Discord with only male students, and offers them extra help. He's rude, unfair with grading, and fails students if he dislikes their work. The first project decides if you pass the class. He has been working with LSC for over 10+ years, there's no real way to report him.
