He is a good guy
kinda funny guy, really pretty much an easy class, doesnt really take attendance so the class becomes full on test day. Study guide is pretty much the test
Excellent teacher,no attendence policy, but if you go and write his outline he teached everyday you don't have to buy the book, his test are straight from th outline he gives you, very understanding to students and accomodates your need.
No attendance, nice guy, tests come from study guide but there are only 2 and then final so it makes them really important. If you don't go to class I think its hard to make higher than a D or C
Yes, I took him for all my needed eco classes, because he is easy, he only gives two test anda final,for 2314 &2315 test come from the study guide mainly, attendence is not required but definetly can play a big part in curving you grade.3313,just write down his outline and test come from there, plus his lectures are not boring. Highly recom.
cool guy, real entertaining. makes lectures fun when he can. the 1st two tests weren't that hard, just study real well. the final was pretty difficult though. go to his office hours and he's more than willing to help you out. i would take him for 2315 if he was teaching it.
the tests come right off the study guide... so buy the study guide. Attendance is not mandatory, although it does help to go to the lectures. I highly recommend him.
mcclung: he is hilarious. made economics some what enjoyable. however we had a replacement professor before he gave us our first test. i'm pretty disappointed he didnt get out finish out the semester with us
This man does not know how to teach at all. Tests are very hard and lectures and homework don't help at all.
This guy is weird and his tests are nothing like what he goes over in class. I go to class, take good notes, and i still do horrible on his test. Not recommended
Lectures are useless and boring. Take him if you want to teach yourself. Exams are extremely tedious also.
read the study guide and know the answers to the questions, a lot of them are on the tests
McClung is freaking hilarious. Though he is kind of odd, he teaches in a way that everyone will understand while providing real world examples. Attendance is not required, and he only gives two tests and a final. If you take him MWF, then he gives each test in two parts which makes it easier to study for. Great guy.
Interesting teacher with unique approach to teaching this topic. However, if you actually want to learn something, I wouldn't recommend him. His lectures tend to be nonsensical babbling and the test comes completely from the study guide.
Very interesting teaching style, uses lots of real world examples that aren't always clear. Reading the book and study guide really helps and majority of study guide is on the test. If you have him mwf the test is in two parts and is way easier to study for. He is very willing to talk if you have any issues and is always avaliable for office hours.
Very useless professor in my opinion. Class is pointless to go to. When I did attend class he rambled on and on about other topics. Makes a lot of jokes and is a good character, but not a good professor. I am leaving this class with minimal gains in knowledge over the topic.
Hilarious teacher. He is a nerd and knows his stuff. He also makes a ton of jokes and classes are easy to sit through. Read the textbook before the exams and you will do great.
Professor hardly shows up, never notifies class. To pass class either 1) buy book and never attend class, or 2) attend class "if" the teacher does. There's only 2 tests, optional final, which eventually won't be given and decided upon by professor because he's lazy. The exams provide no feedback. Easy credit,but useless.
He is very interesting and is funny. He is not afraid of using four letter words, so don't let it bother you. Test are not the easiest, but you can pass if you study. I loved coming to his class, no power points, he writes what you wants you to know on the board. Great teacher.
He can be funny but has very dry humor. He seems to ramble and is very scattered. Asttendance is not required but I suggest really trying to go. DONT BUY THE BOOK. BUY THE STUDY GUIDE! the study guide is was more helpful in passing. Not the best but good to get credit and get out.
He is a funny guy and that keeps you away in the morning, but he doesn't teach much. He walks up to the board and scribbles all over it. Not an easy A at all. only 2 tests and a final. You screw up once, and you're done. Doesn't respond to emails. Doesn't go from the book. Purely from notes in class and this "Study Guide" he has you buy.
Not a hard class as long as you read the study guide. You don't have to get the book or go to class but I would recommend it. He is pretty funny and will certainly throw a few curse words around. Class average was a 66 for mine even though I got an A, so its possible.
This guy is awesome. Very funny and energetic. He gives very obvious hints for test questions and study time is minimal. It can be difficult to follow if you don't keep track of what is going on but if you pay attention, read a little and go to class, you will get an A.
He's a hilarious teacher and is pretty entertaining during lecctures. His tests are kind of difficult but I'd still reccomend his class.
babbles, teaches wrong and doesn't realize it until after a whole lesson, once someone laughs at him he just tries to be funny. It would be in your best interest to stay home and read the book rather than try to learn from him.
He goes out on different side stories too much, most of the things said in class have no bearing on the tests. He tests are made from the book only, ALOT OF READING, wording is odd, I would suggest whatever you do not to take his course. YOU ONLY GET THREE TESTS(Including the final) D: Bad PROF.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. You will not get higher then a C if you are a regular student. Only the total nerds do good. Trust me. Studied hard for the first test, still bombed it because his test are nothing like the lectures. There's only 2 tests so its hard to make up. Take someone else and save your GPA, really. He is funny but not a good teacher.
I would not recommend anyone take his class! Always off topic. Clueless about what your test is going to be over. Not helpful. If you want to make a good grade take SOMEONE ELSE. I've always made great grades besides this class.
Anyone who rates McClung low either A) did not attend class, or B) thought you could get by with zero effort. He's funny, very laid back, and KNOWS HIS STUFF. It isn't easy, but you WILL learn if you go to class, review notes, and see him in office hours when you are confused. Very helpful outside of class! College isn't meant to be easy. Take him!
He is a professor that knows his stuff, but you only have 3 tests all semester and if you don't do so well on one then your trying hard to recover your grade. I attended class everyday and yet I didn't see him as a great professor, I feel he doesn't relate well to the students. He tries to joke with us but is just wasting class time.
Favorite professor I've had at TxState. Goes directly from his book. If you go t class you don't really need to buy it. He makes jokes, but always teaches the subject well. Made a 100 on the first 2 exams.
Great professor, I highly recommend his class. You do not have to attend lecture, I only went about half of the time and still received a good grade. He only takes three test grades for your entire course grade so study for each one. He also gives out great reviews. Only downside is that he likes to ramble on sometimes.
Bruce is funny and the lectures are not so bad. The tests however do not usually reflect the way he lectures so they are more difficult. He does curve at the end and attendance isnt mandatory. Not a bad class if you need it for credit and just want to pass. If you are looking to make an A, I would take someone else.
McClung is a great professor. He really likes teaching and always makes the class interesting. Although I am failing the class, I would take him again. His test are hard, but I feel that if I took him again, I could pass it. Oh and he only has two test and a final. NO assignments. So if you fail one, you're screwed. DEFINITELY buy the book.
McClung is hilarious. He made 9am's less painful with his comedic energy. There are only three tests including the final (comprehensive) and no assignments at all. Exams were a little tough but he posts practice exams that contain a lot of the answers and he does offer up to 7 extra credit points added to your final average.
Dr. McClung challenged my patience. The tests are easy, I didn't have to study. His lectures show his irresponsibility because he is not taken seriously.
Great sense of humor and his lectures cover the material well. GO TO CLASS. Only 2 tests and a cumulative final. I wish there had been assignments so I could check my comprehension before tests. Only got an A because I did his extra credit opportunities (up to 7 points added to final grade) and I went to class and took good notes.
Swears a lot, but is very funny. His lectures are easy to understand and the tests are simple.
He's funny. Gave 3 exams including the comprehensive final. No quizzes or homeworks. The exams were given in two parts. Go to his office hours before the tests for examples and clarification and you'll get an A. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should go. He gave extra credit that was very helpful. TAKE HIM! Best micro professor at Texas State.

Dr. McClung is one of the nicest professors at Texas State, he makes Economics somewhat interesting to take. He only does lectures and no hw. Go to class, write down everything he writes on the board, study that and you'll be fine. Gives extra credit at the end, so our class ended up with a 65 being a c, 75 being a b and so on. Take him
I wouldn't recommend him to others. There's some EC at the end of the semester. His book is his lectures, pretty much exactly. There's no point in even going to class. Which is probably good, because he has a hard time staying on point and he's always talking about drugs trying to be funny. Gets old, really fast.
This was the hardest class I've ever taken so far. I didn't learn anything really. Bruce is really funny, but doesn't stay on topic in his lectures. There are 2 tests and a final, that's it. The tests are nothing like the "review" he gives. He wrote the textbook we use so I guess that's why he feels like he doesn't have to really teach it to us.
Lectures are easy but the tests do not correspond. Instead of giving a review he gives old tests to study with and they are useless..... if you take him and work hard you can pass easily but you will have to formulate your own review for every test. My grade was a reflection of my effort! He is a good proffessor.
He gets super off topic in class and you don't learn much, but he's entertaining soemtimes. 2 tests and a final are your only grades, but you don't get prepared for any of the tests from class which makes them super difficult. Only bright side is he assigns 7 points of extra credit at the end of the semester which was the only way I got an A.
Interesting professor and funny sometimes. Exams weren't difficult if you studied but there was only 2 exams for the course so the test were 50% each. All material comes from notes so if you don't show up to class you better know someone who does to get notes from. Gives a generous curve on exams and is a very easy going guy.
Professor McClung is a very funny/goofy dude but lacks variety in his teaching. He wrote the textbook used for his class so what he lectures in class comes straight from the book - so if you don't come to class, then just read the book. His tests do not reflect his lectures or the textbook which is super frustrating when it comes to studying.
Cool guy. Laid back with a quirky sense of humor. Interesting character. Overall it was a good glass. Get his book or copy someone else's and read it. You can't make less than a B if you study even minimally.

I sat down with some TX State alumni last week. We were discussing some of our fav teachers. James McClung came up as one that we remember. He uses a comfortable approach that helps people feel comfortable. His use of humor makes it much easier to learn. If he makes a mistake, you can get that question excluded from the test. 5 stars for McClung.
Took his Econ 2314 and skipped class all the time besides the week of the test. He is funny and really wants you to succeed. Easy A.

McClung is a real gem. He is comical, kind and super helpful in explaining things multiple ways if you have trouble understanding a concept. Attendance isn't mandatory but "don't hang yourself with the rope you've been given". Definitely take this professor if you have the opportunity.

Professor McClung is awesome! I would take him 10/10 times, his tests are literally so easy you really do not have to go to class and you can get an A by simply looking over the reviews he provides and reading through the textbook. But you'll want to go because he's the nicest guy and cracks jokes the whole time
Do not take him as a professor. Just to give you some context, every single semester I have made the deans list. THIS class kept me off of it this year. In fact, I FAILED it. Test do not reflect notes, textbook, or review. There are only 3 test which normally I would like. However, I knew none of the material on the test after studying heavily.
Dr. McClung understands that this is your education and that it is your duty to care about it. His lectures are straight to the point and he provides examples that break up the topics and make them understandable. The textbook is written by him and he uses examples that are also in the text. The text is a good way to keep up. 2 tests make up grade.
There were only 3 tests during the entire semester and one extra credit opportunity given. I'm studying business and found his tests difficult to understand. I dedicated a lot of time to studying, but unfortunately was unable to pass the class. I would suggest choosing a different professor if you can.
Only 2 test and a final no homework or quizzes. He will give extra credit ( 8 points ) McClung was easy going I finished with a 69.1 thankfully he rounded me up to a C.
Honestly if you show up to class and right down everything he rights down on the board, do the reviews and understand why that answer is the correct answer, there is literally no way to fail. He may only have 3 test but the first two are split up to part A and part B which makes it sooo much easier to study for. Put in the effort, get an A TRUST ME

Amazing! The lectures and the book are essentially the same so if you'd rather skip class and read you can do that but I learn better in person so I went to every class. For an A just take notes in lecture and do his practice tests, which are very similar to tests. Funny guy and goes over material at a good pace.
Bruce is a kind man , but talks way too much during his lectures . He constantly babbles about unimportant topics or precedes to go on a tangent. Will not take again . Note: Requires his students to buy an online access code for the rest of the semester in order to take his test in response to the Coronavirus
Bruce was a good professor and he does a good job explaining the course material. He basically just goes off the textbook which was written by him and answers any questions or concerns you have during lectures. We had 5 exams only and each has the same grading weight. I got a B+ and never purchased the 'mandatory textbook'. Pay attention in class!
Theres only two grades for this entire class, a midterm and a final. The tests are easy enough if you read the book but his statistics he teaches in class arent the same as the book, and his tests reference the book. My advice: READ THE BOOK
McClung is a funny dude but all you do is just watch prerecorded videos. There is not homework or quizzes. 50% Midterm and 50% Final. Must be able to be self-motivated to succeed in this course.
Easy A, test were online, he makes you purchase his own textbook but the topics and reading was very dumbed down so it was easy to understand. Good luck trying to get him to respond to your emails thought. overall i would take him again to boost gpa
There is not much communication with this teacher, but its not horrible. He only has tests that are all online and not proctored. they are pretty easy, and I never watched any of the lectures. Pretty easy class if you put at least minimum effort, he is a good professor that I don't have any complaints for.
There is no class. You just watch prerecorded lectures and take 3 exams online. I feel like he just doesn't really care. However, he has office hours if you need to ask questions. Take him if you want an easy A but don't take him if you actually want a real class.
Cant decide if I loved this class or hated it. All you do is watch pre recorded lectures on your own time, which is nice but you have to have the motivation. The main downside to the class is that the prof is not good at communicating/responding to emails. Hes a nice guy and the class is easy, just be prepared to not learn much in this course.
one of the worst professors Ive ever had. we just watched prerecorded lectures that you watch on your own time. we were supposed to have zoom meetings for reviews but he would never show up and tell us hours later that he was busy doing something else. he never ever answers his emails and he takes weeks to put in the only 3 grades we had for exams.
Forced to purchase access to a personal book to get to tests (which were the only grades). THE BOOK WASN'T FINISHED! Chapter 5 was literally "Future Content to come!" Lectures -are the book- word for word. If you want an easy A, take him. If you want to l learn something? Find another professor.
McClung is just an average professor. He takes a while to respond to emails, but he eventually does get back to you. He also cancelled office hours and zoom meetings at the last minute multiple times throughout the semester, which was frustrating. Also, be aware that there are only 3 grades the entire semester and little extra credit opportunities.
One of my best classes. No homework or assignments. But you do have 2 exams and your final. So make sure you pass your exams to pass the class. All his tests are online and super easy if you study quizlets. Never really went to class that often so if you kind of gaze through the book youll make an easy A
There are only 3 tests and that's your whole grade. Since COVID he has posted all his lectures online so if you want to skip go ahead. All his exams are online and he gives out a review, doesn't really look like the test but gives you an idea. He's kinda funny but awkward lol. Take this class if you ain't a business major but have to take ECON
Not exactly the best lecturer--his lectures are quite boring and he doesn't really explain things too well. It's better to just read the book and get your information that way. Thankfully he doesn't assign homework and his tests are pretty easy. He only takes three grades the whole semester though and they're all tests.
Would not recommend this professor. Legit your grade is based on 2 exams and the final, that's it. If you do badly on one test you're pretty much screwed. He made us buy his own textbook that was useless for the course. Although I have an A it was stressful knowing there are only 3 exams that determine our average.
Professor McClung is a pretty solid professor. His lectures are straight to the point and he adds in some humor to keep his students engaged. However, it can be difficult to get in contact with him at times. Many times throughout the semester he cancelled his office hours at the last minute, but other than that, he is a pretty good professor.
This class was amazing didnt have any homework just two really easy exams and an extra credit paper, I recommend him highly he is very funny and caring, dont let the other reviews scare you youll be fine!
He does not care about your grade but if you study the tests are fairly easy, and your whole grade is 3 tests.
Dr. Bruce McClung has been one of my favorite professors thus far.
A great professor, engaging and always maintained a positive attitude. Loved making jokes and made the lectures fun to attend. Being one of his students was a nice experience.
