This teacher is awesome. I never liked history, but he makes his class lectures very intersection and not boring at all. There is no actual tests at this class , just midterm and final, but for this you have to choose two question from 5 that he provides and write essay. Overall VERY Good class ;)
Bruce is awesome. If you take him, expect to do one writing assignment per week, and an 8 page essay for a midterm and a 8 page essay for a final. That's about all he expects, besides a little enthusiasm and participation. Bruce is also hilarious.
Great teacher, enjoyed taking his class online it was a blast and he had a great sense of humor.
Dr. Nye is the best instructor I have ever had! He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about history. Class was always so fun and entertaining that I never wanted to miss. Great sense of humor and very fun. I hate history and loved Bruce's class. Learn more in this class than in any other. I highly recommend this class with this instructor.
Professor Nye's class is the most interesting one I've ever taken. He's funny, friendly, he really knows the subject, and he teaches in such an interesting way that you really learn the material. Expect a 1-page writing assignment most weeks, a few short quizzes, and an 8-page paper for both the midterm and the final. Amazing class. Seriously.
Very helpful, passionate about the subject, and in general very easy to attend class. I'd have a better grade except that I forgot about a couple of assignments, but that's my fault, not his. Encourages students to look at primary sources critically.
The best History teacher since my 7th grade teacher. Love his lectures. Although his lectures follow the textbook, he talks about a lot of events and people the book briefly touches on or not at all, so it is important to go to class and take notes if you want the 2 papers you write to have enough information. Good thing lectures are fun!
Loved this class because of him!
Amazing Teacher! i hated, and i mean HATED history before taking his class, but because of him, i loved it!! I loved it so much that i went back and took another history class with him! I defiantly recommend him. As long as you take really good notes, then you are guaranteed to get a good grade in his class!
Nye is both an amazing and wonderful teacher. While I have always enjoyed history courses, a boring teacher is just boring; Nye is anything but this. For gods sake the man can lecture about the Catholic Church reformation and making it fun and exciting. Simply an amazing professor.
Bruce is one of the best professors at FRCC. His lectures are always fun and definitely get your attention. I really enjoyed his class and came to every lecture. He teaches you to think critically in writing 1 page papers weekly and then 2 eight page papers for a midterm and final. Would definitely recommend him, amazing professor!!
Professor Nye is hands down one of the absolute best professors at FRCC, definitely take a class with him if you can. He makes learning history fun and interesting, even for science majors. Homework, midterm and finals are very fair and he doesn't emphasize date memorization. Best history teacher ever!
He is a genius when it comes to history, and he gives the lecture as if he were a professional story teller. I'd recommend him again.
Amazing!!
Wow! This guy loves history and loves to teach! I've hated history previously and really enjoyed the way this class was taught. It was online and he had recorded lectures and slideshows to help you get the same interactions you'd get in classes. If you want a history, you should take a class with this guy!
Lectures are amazing. Dont use the textbook in class. Only used the textbook for tests. Low Risks are super easy. High Recommend this class
His positive reviews are well earned. Read the material and put a little thought into your writing and it is an easy A. Just a hint: his quizzes are based on questions provided by the book's publisher, Wadsworth cengage learning. The URL to the online student study aids can be found on the back of the book. They match his quizzes exactly.
Loved this guy.. the lectures are so easy to listen to. Interesting enough to keep you wanting to come to class. I wish I could take more classes with him!
Literally my favorite teacher I have ever had, in all my years of school. I would switch to a history major if I could take every class he teaches. He cares so much about the subject, his lectures are so engaging and he teaches at Front Range because he chooses to, not because he's waiting for something better to come along. He was outstanding.
Easiest teacher and class ever. I learned a lot from his lectures. Work load is very minimal. Loved this class & professor! Gave the option of writing an essay instead of taking a multiple choice exam, which was so nice!
Professor Nye is an amazing story teller. He has very interesting lectures and does a great job at helping students synthesize material. History can be difficult to follow at times but this professor really makes it interesting. He is super knowledgeable and a very fair teacher.
2 Tests (choose between multiple choice or essay), 1 paper, weekly discussions with quizzes and a few short essays throughout the course. The multiple choice questions are very specific despite having a study guide, I ended up picking the essay portion of the exams; questions are given to you beforehand. Easy if you do your work, easy routine.
He is an amazing teacher. Very funny. The class is kind of hard in some cases but it is still an amazing class
Professor Nye is an amazing teacher and his lectures were extremely interesting. Course work was reasonable and there were no in class testassignments. I wish there were more teachers like him.
I really enjoyed this class, and signed up for another one that he teaches next semester.
He is completely amazing. Easiest A of my life, but I love history. As long as you try on all of the essays, which are totally easy then you will get an A. He grades so easy. It seems like he doesn't even read the essays. But He is a great teacher. His lectures were always interesting and funny. He's dorky cute. Does not take attendance.
he is the best of the best take his class you will like it the most i learned a lot and i enjoyed going to his class and i got an easy A
Still my favorite teacher I've ever had after three classes with him. A history class is required for every associates degree, no one has an excuse not to take him at least once. You need the textbook for the single page assignments once a week and the essay midterm and final. Lectures are amazing. He's super helpful during office hours too.
Bruce is such a great professor, seriously. He makes class enjoyable, his lectures aren't dull, and he has realistic expectations. His quizzes follow the book but he isn't the one who makes them up. Give a little participation, do your work and you'll pass his class. Great man and very knowledgeable. I would take him again, no doubt.
I'm not a history person, and yet I love this class. Quizzes are based off of the book, but mid-term papers are based off of amazing, interactive, well-explained lectures that are a joy to listen to. I'm taking his history classes in the future for fun.
I'm not a history person, and Mr. Nye is an amazing teacher. Lectures are engaging, funny, he is very helpful and clear, and content for the mid-term is based more on lectures than the book he uses. I would take this class again, and I look forward to his medieval class in the coming semesters.
Nye is a great teacher who takes the time to get to know his students. I took classes with him for several semesters and got A's every time. As long as you do the work he asks you to do there is no way you can fail his classes. He also has the ability to make history come to life in a way that makes the material very easy to relate to.
This class will be an easy class if you stay engaged and do all of the work. Be prepared to write, essays were the only form of work in my class. He makes history fun, and he does not grade that tough, he just looks to make sure you understand. Like he says all of the time he procrastinates a lot, and it is sometimes in your benefit.
The reason I keep taking his classes is because he actually makes history enjoyable & relevant. It doesn't feel like a lecture, it's quite informal, more like having a conversation about history. Do your work & you will succeed. I'll be disappointed when I leave FRCC & he will no longer be an option.
He's a great professor! Very laid back, knowledgeable, funny, concise, and "that kinds of stuff." It's not difficult to get an A, just do the work, it's not a lot of effort.
Best teacher at front range. No doubt. I took his western civ class and his lecture's made the material so interesting I found the class easier then my high school classes I took. Highly recommend this fantastic teacher.
Bruce Nye is my favorite History teacher ever! Seriously, if you need to take a History class, take it from him. His lectures were intersting and he kept things lively and flexible. He is helpful and reasonable. Two long papers due as well as several small papers. Quiz on every chapter in the textbook.
He was a great professor and made class fun. He had readings and quizzes/paragraphs based off the reading but they were online and easy. Had long lectures but made them more like story telling. There were no papers. Definitely take his class for a history credit.
I've taken 4 classes with him, he's fabulous. He's good because he not only teaches well, he actually listens and learns from his students too. If you're not keen on history, that's okay, you'll find he makes it fun! He's a great professor because he's a great person, period.
Took Mr. Nye again for Medieval History and it was a fantastic semester. Excellent information on a fascinating topic, hilarious and great stories in class, and still one of the best teachers I've had and known. The book is only for online quizzes, but for his "tests" is an excellent resource.
Overall great teacher. He is smart, funny, and open to questions. Just be ready for him to rag on mathematics but praise engineering. Good lectures, posts slides online. Online quizzes, short papers due every week with two long papers for midterms/finals.
I've never liked history until I had Nye teach it to me. He is hilarious and very lenient with students (if they respect him and treat him nicely). Seriously, hilarious. I never want to miss class because I'd miss a new inside class joke. I also retain nearly 100% of what he lectures on because he makes it so fun and interesting to learn.
Nye makes class fun and interesting. He is funny and a knowledgeable professor. I would only take history classes with him.
He is the best! He makes it so you don't want to miss class, it is all lecture based but he makes it so interesting and fun you don't even know the period is over. I look forward to taking many more classes with him!
His class is very lecture heavy, but they are all so informative, and he really knows what he's talking about. He makes sitting through a lecture on US history enjoyable. If you miss one of his lectures though good luck with getting all of the information, because you have o go to class everyday or else it is so hard to learn without going to class
Bruce is an excellent professor, who is extremely insightful. He is passionate about what he teaches. He is also very attractive! Which is always a plus. Class requires a lot of reading, and sometimes it does not tie into the lecture. Other than that, assignments are easy if you attend class and pay attention. Who knew medieval history could fun.
Amazing history professor! I wish I could take more courses with him, makes his lectures easy to follow, hilarious, and organized. Unfortunately would show up to class late, but I didn't mind.
Bruce Nye was an amazing history teacher. He was hilarious in class and made history very interesting, although he wasn't as organized as other professors I've had. I definitely learned a lot from his class. There were quite a few writing assignments, but if you don't procrastinate too much, you shouldn't have any problems with the work load.
Awesome!
I took History 255 with Bruce. He's a very entertaining man, and knows how to make the workload fun. 10/10
He is very laid back. This is a great professor for first semester students.
Loved this professor! He really makes his class all about learning, not getting grades. 10/10 would take again
Mr. Nye was a great History professor. His lectures were great and he was always willing to help with assignments. As long as you show up and finish the homework his classes are great. I would defiantly take his class again.
Bruce had good online lectures, but takes a month to grade things. I sent 6 emails during semester with questions and concerns of mine, and he never responded, and with an online class, he should be better at this. If you are someone who prefers solid communication with their teacher, I would suggest someone else, because he is not involved much.
Great professor, easy class. Literally show up and listen.
Best teacher ever. Had fun in class and the required reading was pretty good.
The only things he ever graded were the tests and a few quizzes, so make sure to do well on your assignments. He's super nice, has amazing lectures, and loves interacting with students. By far one of the best professors I've ever encountered. Loved this guy's class!
Professor Nye was an awesome teacher! I had so much fun in his class and learned a lot. His attendance is not necessarily mandatory but it is a fun class and you will miss out on things if you skip class. Highly recommend taking his class if possible! FYI doesn't really use textbooks but he has you buy little books that are more specific.
I had taken his western civ class and was thoroughly inspired, so decided to take middle ages. Learned so much in this class! Not only does he have thrilling lectures, his assignments are fair and beneficial. Very few students ditched class though attendance was not based on points, everyone sincerely wanted to be there to learn. Highly recommend!
I have taken 2 classes with Professor Nye and I can easily say he is my favorite professor at this college. He is without a doubt an incredibly knowledgeable and hilarious professor. I plan to take more of his courses and learn from his lifetime of amazing study!
I took online HIS 101 from Professor Nye, very straightforward and easy class. You have to participate in a weekly discussion, quiz, and topic review. Other than that there are 2 exams and 1 book report. None of which were overly challenging. Things took awhile to be graded, but other than that I have no negative feedback.
One of the best teachers at Front Range by a long shot. He's an amazing teacher and tells the best stories during class. His classes are also incredibly easy to pass. You don't even have to show up or buy the material, just do the work on D2L and you'll pass.
By far the best professor I have ever had!
I really like his class and how laid back he was. He was very willing to help individual students and was great about adjusting the class to help everyone. As long as you put a little effort in and turn everything in it is a VERY easy A. You have to get the small books for writing papers, and I recommend getting the main textbook as well.
He was alright. Not gonna lie, not the best teacher I've had, but not the worst either. He is okay at his job and although he is entertaining, he relies on the book too much and goes off onto these random tangents that aren't relevant to the information. He only gives a few assignments and that's the meat of your grade
Great professor. Made class interesting and had clear grading criteria.
Just go in and do the work, it's that simple. He is really laid back and understanding.
He primarily expects you to complete all the work but is not a hard grader. Very reasonable. I would take class by him again.
This is my third semester with Bruce, I love his lectures their always interesting and very funny, he is my favorite professor that Ive had at front range and I respect him as a person, hes very nice and hes very chill, I would definitely recommend taking his class I think you will have fun with his class
Professor Nye was a great professor, super easy going and easy to work with. just give the class a pessary amount of effort and its an easy A.
He makes history fun and interesting to where you want to know more!
Prof Nye was such an amazing teacher. He was personable while being professional. If you're looking for an easy A for a history credit, then Bruce is your guy. There are a good amount of assignments but he makes history not boring and he is very helpful. The content is laid out in an organized manner which makes it easy to understand.
Easy grader. He does take a hot minute to respond to emails though. He has quizzes, discussions, response questions, and one book report for the online course. I recommended!
I took middle ages class which was pretty easy, although dates for assignments were subjected to change. He was great in the midst of the transition to online learning. It is easy to ace the class if you want, but beware of getting a lower grade on any of your assignments. It'll bring your entire grade down a letter.
This is the 2nd class I've taken with Professor Nye, and both classes have been an absolute pleasure. He is a fantastic lecturer, presenting some fairly dense history material in an accessible, enjoyable way, and is truly one of the kindest professors I've ever had the pleasure to meet. He genuinely wants everyone to succeed, and shows that.
havent had many good teachers at Front Range, but this ones a real gem
havent had a teacher as good as him in long time
one of the few good teachers at front range
Professor Nye really knows his stuff and his lectures are very interesting and engaging. I read the text throughout the semester and honestly felt that I learned more from lecture than anything. Theres one major paper at the end of the semester and several smaller assignments, though, hes a very generous grader. You wont regret taking his class!
this is the third time ive had him, i ve basically never had any complaints, one of the best teachers ive had
Awful for zoom class. Never answers emails, he didn't have internet except on class days. overloaded with TONS of reading, videos, etc. and then expects a full book review separate from our textbook at the end. This was nearly impossible I highly regretted taking this class. Expects participation but never answers emails or keeps class engaged
Professor Nye is great. He's quite organized and quick to respond to emails. Lots of reading, discussions, quizzes, and short response assignments. Though, he's very lenient on grades. I'd say the book review seemed unreasonable, or unnecessarily. Could be just me. But given the amount of reading and work we do throughout the semester.
Professor Nye is so funny when it comes to his lectures, he keeps the class interested with lectures and knows what he is talking about. If you are looking for a history professor that cares about what he teaches. He is the right professor for you.
Amazing professor! I thoroughly enjoyed his class. The papers were very fun to write, and he gave amazing lectures. He was very kind and understanding too.
Nye was such a great professor, his lectures are NEVER boring and he really knows his stuff. There are only a couple of assignments and 4 papers, 2 of which are the midterm and the final, but he's very understanding when it comes to grading. Would definitely take his class again!
Professor Bruce Nye is my favorite professor ever. His lectures are never boring as he makes them fun to listen to. He also has an amazing sense of humor. He is also a very caring professor and he is 100% willing to work with you as he wants you to pass his class. I would 10000000% recommend him as your history professor!
He was certainly interesting. As long as you turn in your assignments and go to class, you should be good. There are 3 different textbooks and a lot of extra reading and film content to do every week. There are 8 assignments, 2 book reports and the midterm and final exams. He never answers emails, so make sure to ask him in person. Slow grading.
Professor Nye is one of the most amazing professors I've studied under. His enthusiasm is contagious and he clearly cares about the success of his students. The course load is consistent without being too heavy. There are many papers to write, chapters to read, and straightforward quizzes to take. If you do your best, you will succeed.
I had Bruce for HIS 243 - History of Modern China. I took the class online-asynchronous and really enjoyed it! The lectures were interesting and engaging, as well as the supplemental materials. Bruce opted for oral exams instead of traditional written exams, where you just had a conversation about what you learned. 10/10 would take again!
Professor Nye is a great teacher. Deadlines are pushed back often, so it's easy to get a good grade in his class. He is an easy grader and is lenient about late work. However, he doesn't give much feedback. His lectures are interesting; Middle Ages history was very discussion oriented, so I could ask a question about anything I was curious about.
I took Bruce Nye's Middle Ages class this past semester and it was easily one of, if not my favorite, classes. He is incredibly engaging with the class and encourages all types of discussions that brings the student to a deeper level of understanding. He is also very understanding and lenient on getting work turned in! Highly recommend.
Bruce Nye was one of the best teachers ive had. I loved the fact his final was a class discussion instead of a huge test. 10/10 would take another class with him.
While the lectures were very interesting, I have some complaints. Grading was painfully slow. Like three weeks minimum and even then you would get no meaningful feedback on your writing. He did not post assignments until sometimes days before they were due. The workload was light, but it is frustrating nonetheless!
I took him for Western civ. He is one of the best teachers there and a super nice guy, TAKE HIM. You'll have a written midterm, written final, and a book report. If you are struggling he will help you out! I had a hard time with the writing portion of the class and he gave me an alternative oral exam for the final and I got an A!!
Really caring and easy going. As long as you do the work you will pass the class. He dropped some assignments on multiple occasions as a reward for the class since everyone was participating and doing well. Would love to have another class with him in the future.
