Hysterically funny. Grades hard and has definate opinions about things. I would take his class again.

Bruce is not half as bad as the claim goes (if you put one once of effort into the class).In fact it kinda sounds like the same person writing all of the messages, but who knows.I liked the class because of all the good and very important info. Easy A.

The class is actually an easy upper division GE course. All you have to do is follow directions to perfection and you will do fine. Bruce is alot better than people think; plus, you only have to see him half the class because Brian is there, who is also a great teacher. Take the class.

He is not THAT bad, but definitely can come off as a bad guy. Very degrading and thinks he is the king of all!! He knows his stuff but the fact that he lets you know it makes him very stuck up. He thinks students are idiots and generalises and stereotypes. VERY easy class, RUDE professor

TIP: go to class, do all assignments, and GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. If you seem interested (in politics also), it will help out a lot. As stated below, he is extremely rude and does think highly of himself. Just study and you'll get a passing grade.

I really enjoyed Bruce's class. If you follow his directions carefully and show some sincere effort, the class should be a piece of cake.

Bruce comes off as gruff- but all you need to do is follow his assignment instructions. He is extremely concise. Excellent class structure and always covers all material. Passionate. If you care about the environment, and want to learn take his class. Do all assign. and reading.

Bruce was the best teacher I ever had in college. He may be tough and a hard-ass but that is only to challenge you to think for yourself!! He will not hold your hand through your homework- you gotta work. If you actually care about learning and expanding your horizons- take his classes!!

Unnecessarily anal. Will give NO SLACK, makes arbitrary decisions on what he will or will not accept. Follow all instructions to the letter. Do not make the same mistakes twice. Do not take his remarks personally, he really does want you to learn.

I loved him. I thought he was a great teacher and the lectures were always entertaining. You just have to make sure you don't say something dumb, that's all. If you don't take everything personal and don't get butt-hurt then he is hilarious and informative

Good class, funny guy, disorganized, he could do the lcass better with out Brian. It is a month past the semester and still no grades, he has not turned into university so that is frustrating to not have a grade.

You either love him or you hate him. He's all over the place but what he has to say is really interesting. I learned a lot from his class but it had it's high and low points. Do what he asks and you can get an A. Do the Topical Summaries right though! He tells you how just copy off of what he does.

Overall an interesting class. Learn lots about CA, and world environment. Book is excellent and very easy to read. Teaching style is relaxed and easy going. He's funny and informative. If the class is small enough, ask to have it where his office is! Much better than the classroom.

This professor is one of the few who really motivates students to learn. He has an exceptional knowledge of his subject area, which stimulates the class to want to succeed. I have been in school for many years, and it is professors like this that make education exciting. Thank you.

Professor Bruce may be the least understood lecturer at SJSU. Students comments are malicious and unjustified. Few students know of his many accomplishments and cannot comprehend the level of learning he brings. This is the same group that sits with gaping mouths and expressionless faces whenever key topics are discussed. He knows what he's doing

Bruce talks your ear off...and that's an understatement. Go to class, listen, take notes and you're good for the test. His ranting is entertaining, just deal with it. I didn't even need to open the book, except for when I wrote a short paper.

I liked this class a lot. He is really, really funny, smart and is pretty opinionated though, but I thought his opinions were good advice. He does pick on people though and call on random people, and you better know the answer. Great guy though and although may seem intimidating at first, is helpful and is pretty chill overall. Very entertaining

He is a jerk to students who don't try and don't get it. For those who do, they learn to love him in a weird sort of understanding of being from the same mold. He is really a sweet man when you get to know him, and though he may seem scattered he knows what he is talking about.

He is a funny guy. Very knowledgable about environmental issues such was water and recycling and most of all recycling laws! He is a great professor who has gotten my career started. If you don't try he will not be as nice as when you do. If you want him to like you all you have to do is know recycling and like the SF Giants!

I had read the reviews and was really worried but honestly, besides the amount of papers required ( which are completely laid out)this was the easiest class I've had at State. I took it online and had 0 problems getting an A. I also had no problems with him in office hours. If you have ANY idea about recycling and follow directions you will be fine

Taking this class was both rewarding and demanding. The course leaves you thinking about things that can be used after college. People here who complain on here aren't justifying the quality of the class. To get a good grade, all you have to do is participate, read, write, and use logic. You'll be shocked at how much this course offers.

Taken this course last semester, and was a bit paranoid after skimming through the comments. The assignments will keep you busy but very very easy. I will point out instructions may be confusing. Just complete everything on time and you'll get an A. Didn't read the lecture slides, or materials, and turned out fine! Your only test is the final.

Really nice teacher if you go in and talk to him over office hours, plus if you put in the effort you will get an A.

Online class is very organized. TONS of reading. Writing assignments can be overwhelming at first, but just follow his directions given and not bad to complete. Follow his SPECIFIC instructions or you will be downgraded. Learned so much in this class, very eye-opening. Final exam not too bad either. Dont fall behind on the discussions.

Just finished this course in the summer online. It is a lot of work, but the readings are interesting. Follow the instructions for each assignment, and you will get a good grade! If you are not a test taking person, this is a great choice.

VERY good professor. LOTS of reading though. You will learn alot. He gives you detailed instructions on his assignments. No book, he gives you all the information.

So this class is all laid out for you in the beginning! Its very instruction based so make sure you read everything... Or else he will dock you points for the smallest imperfections like punctuation! Start the homework assignments early because they take at least 2 hours each! I learned a lot in this class but it wasnt easy!

I just took this class shortly, because it is summer, so a lot of homework is understandable, but so far you dont have to write too much, and the professor does not require a long discussion. Late assignments will not be accepted.

The amount of extra credit is ridiculous. I literally have 120% in the class now... If you're planning on taking this next semester with school being online, do it! There's a lot of reading and discussions to complete each week. It's do-able. I usually get my work done the day it's due. With the amount of work he requires, you'll learn a lot.

Amazing prof, one of Envs Dept.'s best. Very understanding of any circumstances and wants students to succeed. We need more professors like him.

Tons of extra credit; weekly discussion posts sometimes even two as well as writing assignments sprinkled in. Lots of reading. Lectures given through slides or you can watch recorded lectures. Final is pretty easy and final paper is your pick of 3 topics discussed in the course. He is very passionate about the environment and it shows.

Took his course for spring semester online cause of COVID. Honestly, his class was pretty easy for the most part. He gives extra credit discussions every week and they help quite a bit. The extra credit helped me maintain an A+ throughout the whole semester. No textbook but you do need to look at his presentations. Good professor! I recommend.

The class is full of good information on many environmental topics. It's an asynchronous class so you don't have to attend any live lectures. However, you do need to participate in the discussion assignments with your peers. For each lecture, you can choose to read the slides, or watch a recorded lecture the professor made on the slides. Good prof!

His assignments help students to really learn. Consist of discussion posts, a book club report (interesting books to choose from), a research paper where you pick your own topic, attending committees meetings, watching YouTube videos, and a final exam. Lectures are very informative, so pay attention. He also offers many extra credit opportunities.
