He is just way too enthusiastic about geology! He likes to make up silly phrases during lectures. Overall he's pretty good.
MAGMA
he never gets mad. good teacher, dont buy the book. lecture notes are plenty. very detail oriented about tests.
What a great guy!! He's very nice. He reminds me of a human teddy bear. He has a great teaching style and he loves his geology. If you take this class you will learn a lot. He does make up funny phrases when he talks. Dont buy the book.. its worthles
What a rad guy. I had so much fun in this class. As a Liberal Studies major I found out a lot of great ways to teach through his class.
totally awesome teacher...he loves rocks...haha...and his passion shows through...gives good input on how to teach future students...learned a lot from his class =)
I think he is the best teacher I have had in college so far. He makes class a lot of fun, especially with his slide shows. He definitely knows what he is talking about and teaches it in a very interesting and helpful manner. I highly recommend him.
He is one of the best professors I've ever had. He's passionate about the topic and his lecture notes are so straightforward. You don't need the book. He's funny and super nice.
Easy to understand the material and makes class fun.
I'm sorry to disagree with all of you, but I don't think he is a good teacher. He taught the class like an upper division course even though it's a GE and that is really important especially when it's a science course.I wasn't the must focused student whi
Awesome, fun teacher. Take his lab too...very nice guy and always willing to help
He's a great teacher, but a very hard class. The lectures are interesting and the labs are hard. he does answer questions and is very willing to help. The field trip is also a fun experience. I would definately take his class but prepared that it is tough, but well worth it.
this is one of the most boring classes i have ever taken. He writes on the chalk board for an hour straight about sediment. He loves sediment. He also sounds a lot like kermit the frog, good ol' kermit
The material is a little dry and tests are a bit hard, but he's pretty thorough in his lectures. He's interesting to listen to sometimes too.
i love this guy! makes class really interesting, and his lectures are easy to understand. definitely take the lab that goes along with this class. lots of fun field trips. + it helps when the teacher is really interested in the subject and has a real passion for what he does. "MAAgma!" :D
Hes a nice man, but the class was incredibly boring. The muliple choice was tricky. I wouldnt recommend taking for a GE course.
Excellent Teacher!! Made class fun and interesting and his notes are simple to follow! Love this guy! MAAgma!!
very nice teacher. always willing to help. tests are based on lecture notes and lab quizzes are not that difficult. dont miss class and you'll get a B or A
I loved this professor. The lecture is very organized and he's really random with stuff he says... like the "MAAAGMA" thing... That always made me laugh. He's really nice. Tests are a little hard but I never studied. I got a B

Mr. Perry is one of the coolest teachers! SERIOUSLY!Oceanography is a very interesting class, I got an A in his lab class and maybe a B in his lecture.I must admit that sometimes his lectures are boring, but he's an awesome teacher. The tests are a bit tricky but definitely Ace-able. =) Take this class! It's great! And the field trips in lab are fun
This is one of the best classes I ever had and this professor is so cool. He's very funny and very easy going as well. If you want to take an oceanography class, Perry is the man!
Bruce is the man, no complaints here.
I took Geol for Elem Teachers.Hes a great teacher and enforces his lectures with slides and examples. You HAVE to go to class and take good notes. The tests can be very challenging if you dont study. But you definately learn in his class
Copy the words and pictures on the board exactly how it appears and you'll do great on the tests. Tip: dedicate a seperate notebook just for this class b/c there you will be doing a lot of writing.
bruce is amazing...he makes lectures on sediment fun! it is a science class so it's a little hard, but he explains everything clearly and writes out the notes for you, you just have to copy them down. as long as you go to class and take notes the tests are easy.
Bruce is one of the best professors. He is helpful & is very clear. You will learn a lot! THere is one required field trip, but its not that bad.
Bruce is a great professor. He is always willing to work with you during office hours. He's very clear about everything that's on the tests. The lab class has great fieldtrips!
This was one of the best classes I've ever taken because Bruce is such a great professor. Lectures are very clear and the notes are what to study on the exams. The field trips are so interesting and fun. I dreaded the class going into it, but left the class loving geology and knowing so much about it. If you need any science classes, take Perry!
i loved him!!! i was scared about taking geology.. but i ended up learning so much from him! hes a great professor and i wish all my professors were like him.
SO SO SO SO FUNNY! this guy is hilarious. i took this as a GE and it was pretty easy. Attendance isnt mandatory but if you dont plan on buying the book (i didnt) then go to class becuase he puts all the notes in outline form on the board for you. he also fills diagrams in with you and they are pretty important. For the test
This is an easy class. He is a good, and nice professor and lays out everything you need to know in his lectures. I MEAN EVERYTHING and in great detail, so many sure you make it to everyclass. easy b. one paper on whatever subject you want regarding any of the subjects discussed in class (8 pages or so)
Just 4 exams (multiple choice, short answer, filling out diagrams). He writes out all the notes you need to know for the exam on the board, and goes over all the diagrams you need to know in class, so you may want to go most of the time, especially if you don't want to buy the book. Really cool guy, class is easy if you study the notes.
Bruce Perry is a nice guy, but the material for this class is SO boring. You have to study for the tests to do well, which is difficult b/c I just want to fall asleep. The lab fieldtrips are pretty fun (especially kayaking) but when we're in the lab class I can't stand it. There's a little math involved in the work, and the work is so boring.
Dr. Perry is an interesting professor. His exams are very straight forward, no trick questions. Just study the lecture notes and the labs, one will do fine in this class. I highly recommend Dr. Perry to students who want to or have to take geology.
This professor was so much fun. He is very entertaining and helps you learn a lot. He is always willing to answer questions. His leactures are very easy to follow since he puts all the notes in outline form on the board. His tests are very straightfoward and he will tell you exactly what is on them. No tricks. I highly reccomend taking Bruce.
Bruce Perry is my new favorite professor EVER!!! Tests are easy and straightforward as long as you study the lecture notes. I hate science, but he makes it interesting, and he is always cracking jokes. I wish he taught all my classes. Easy A as long as you study, plus he is always giving extra credit.
I loved this professor. He was so helpful and intelligent. Best professor at the school!!!
Perry is the best teacher I have ever had! This class answers all the cool questions you'e ever had about weather, terrain, and astronomy. He can answer any question you throw at him and does it with a wicked sense of humor =) All the test material is from the lectures so you have to go to every class. Take this course! He's absolutely amazing!! =)
BEST TEACHER EVER!!! I feel sorry for students who don't get to take his classes. He is knowledgable, laid back, and very funy. I've taken many of his classes and would take more just for fun! Take him!
a very funny and helpful man. tests are right off the lecture notes. this is a class that you should attend although attendance isn't mandatory because you would be missing out if you just decided to not go to class and read the textbook yourself.
loved this professor! bruce is funny. he is very approachable and helpful. his lectures are clear, but the material contains a lot of information and details. 3 midterms, and 1 final. grading is fair
He is a good professor and always helpful. Exams are based on the lectures and very straight forward. I would definitely recommend him.
He is truly a great. professor. His class is both fun and interesting. I will tell anyone who asks to totally take him.
The only reason this class is not super easy is that there is just SO much information. There were 5 tests and each were based on about 4-6 chapters. The lab work is easy bc he goes over it with you. He like very specific wording on tests/papers and will take off pts if right terms arent used. Tests are based on lectures.
Great teacher! I was really not looking forward to taking this class, but he made it really fun! He was really entertaining and made me actually want to go to class. I would definitely recommend taking him!
This professor is super funny and is very comprehensive with his students. He doesn't really require that you buy the expensive textbook. And he covers all you need to know in class. You could probably get the notes from you buddy and be fine with the class. But you would be missing out on his humor. He was great
I wasn't looking forward for his class, bc rocks is not really an interesting subject. However, Professor Perry made the class very interesting with his awesome hiking trip pictures with his wife. The materials/tests are very straightforward. Fun class, must take!
Best teacher I have ever had at CSULB. He makes his lectures very interesting and is able to relate to students very well. Probably one of the most intersting classes I have ever taken. LOTS of note taking. Your missing out by not going to class. Very witty/down to earth guy as well as very intellegent.
BEST TEACHER EVER! I love professor Perry he is funny, quirky, helpful, and very very organized. NEVER unprepared for class. I suggest going to every lecture his chats are not boring, they are interesting! and vital for the tests. I love the ocean, and he made the subject awesome.
By far the best teacher I ever had. His class is all notes but the subject is very interesting. No textbook needed just make sure you have all the notes. He is very kind and funny. For lab you get to go on field trips like kayaking in Newport bay. Tests are easy just make sure you study before.
Super easy class guys. The whole class is notes, so as long as you go to class, take the notes and study them, you'll get an A. Bruce Perry has a witty sense of humor so he keeps class enjoyable. Also, there's no need for a textbook; I regret buying mine. The only reason you would need it is if you wanted to look at the diagrams he recommends.
Really easy~ Writes all the notes for you on the board. Test based on notes, labs/field trips, and worksheets. Just study all that and you'll get an A. He's really funny/nice. Interesting to listen to. Field trips are mandatory but they're fun and interesting~
Easy course to fulfill physical science credits. Bruce is an awesome teacher who makes the information simple and clear. The exams are based soley on the notes so attendance is important but not mandatory. The lab requires field trips.
Okay, this class you HAVE to attend cause the tests are based of the notes & if you miss a class you pretty much miss an entire section of questions. Just 4 tests and no extra credit. If you're not a science, geology major, you might find this class SUPER BORING AND PAINFUL to attend
YOU MUST ATTEND CLASS. His exams are based almost solely off of the notes, which he writes on the overhead every day. He is extremely thorough and interesting. Very funny, too! As long as you attend class and take adequate notes, you should do fine. But if you're not going to show up, don't take this class!
Extremely boring class and you'll do terrible on the tests if you don't think you can pay attention and take good notes. That's pretty much it...would not recommend.
Class was not boring at all. It was fascinating to learn about the ocean. Make sure to come to class because writing good notes is only the thing you need to study for exam. Do not buy textbook only need his lecture notes. He writes on the overhead, no powerpoint slides. He tells you what will be on test. He is a very nice guy. Easy A/B!
This class was a bit challenging for me b/c the topic is not of my interest, BUT Bruce is very helpful. All you have to do is ask. The test is based off his lectures, so the textbook is not needed. Idk what to say to the person that said he doesn't give extra credit because on all 4 tests, he gave us extra credit; He even told us what it was.
All I can say is, meh it could be worse. The tests are based on the notes so you have to study it really carefully. All four tests have extra credit so give it a shot if you think you need it.
Bruce was a very nice teacher. Responds to emails very quickly and will even let you go to his office before the exam to clarify questions you may have. This class was very manageable and he posts up a study guide with most of the questions that will appear on the exam. I'd recommend this class!
Favorite class and teacher ever
He is awesome! One of my favorite teachers so far. Go to class, take notes, and you'll be fine on tests. He is very helpful and super nice. I definitely recommend him!
Great teacher, very personable. Easy A if you go to class!
NO TEXTBOOK NEEDED TO GET AN A :) just go to class and write down all of his notes (which by the way are crystal clear)and study them for the exams. there are four exams and theres always extra credit on them. great class and great professor!
Bruce Perry succeeds at the very difficult job of making rocks interesting. He is a fantastic professor who makes learning geology not only interesting, but applicable to our major!
Bruce is a nice and helpful teacher who gives straightforward notes. However, this class will not be easy for everyone. At times it may get boring and you feel like dozing off. An 'A' is not guaranteed as a good 1/3 of the class gets Cs on their test and more than 1/2 the class gets a C, D, or F on the test. If you really study, you'll 'succeed'.
Coming into this class, I had zero interest in the subject of the class. Bruce however made the 8 am classes worth it. He is very passionate and helpful which makes you want to listen even more. Don't buy the textbook! Lecture notes and labs are whats on the tests. Study those and you will do fine. The field trip is also a lot of fun! Take Bruce!
Bruce Perry is a very nice guy! He responds to e-mails promptly and returns exams by the next class. His lectures are clear and organized. Everything that will be on the test he explains in his lecture. He uses powerpoint, so just take your laptop and type out everything on the powerpoint (not much), study that, and you'll get an A.
I love Professor Perry. He is an awkward-funny guy, but he really tries his best to get you the best grade possible. No textbook needed, all his exams are note-based and lab-based. Of course, you NEED to study to get an A in this class, but the information is relatively easy to understand. He is a great professor, and I would take him again.
Go to class, take notes on the power-point slides, and do the study guide he posts online and you can easily get an A. He is very nice and is always willing to answer questions!!
I LOVED having Professor Perry and would take his class again. The class is straightforward, with your grade dependent on 4 exam scores. The exam questions come from power points , which he does not post, so attendance is necessary. Pay attention, and DO the study guides and you will get an easy A. He offers some extra credit points on the exams.
Bruce is an amazing professor. He answers your questions clearly and obviously has a passion for what he is doing. There are four tests that are easy to ace, as long as you attend lecture and do the study guides. Oh yeah, HE GIVES STUDY GUIDES! I would definitely recommend taking him for a GE.
Professor Perry is a wonderful professor. He truly cares about his students. If you miss class he is always available to give you the notes if you come into his office hours. Show up to lecture and take notes; you will get an A. He also gives study guides which are very helpful and let you know exactly what is on the test.
Class consists of 4 exams defining your grade. This is NOT an easy A class. On his exams, more than 12 of the class gets C, D, or F. Less than 14 get A's or B's. If you want an A, you will have to work very hard. Notes are based from his laptop (don't buy the textbook). He gives you a study guide to prepare for the exams. Attendance is necessary.
Tests are based off of powerpoints, which are not posted online. He's enthusiastic and is a good lecturer. The book is not needed at all. The class grade consists of 4 tests, which can be difficult. It was harder than I expected, but i would take it again.
Perry is excellent- all his exams come from notes and diagrams from the whiteboard, so the book is barely used. He explains concepts well and supplements them with cool hiking pictures of him and his wife. His class is so long and early though (8am), but get through it and you will walk away knowing practical earth science knowledge
I LOVED Perry! I had the 8-10:45am class with him, and he made Geology as interesting as it could be. His tests can be hard, but you should do fine as long as you study the class and lab notes thoroughly. Note that he does not let the class leave early, so expect to stay for the full 2 hours and 45 minutes (with a brief 15 minute break).
Great sense of humor, willing to help if you need it, so make sure you ask if you have questions. The textbook was not necessary, but the Lab book was. Study the Labs, and notes, and it will be an easy B. Don't be absent or late to his class, he knocks off points for that. He WILL use up the entire two hours and forty- five minutes of lecture.
He's an interesting man. His tests are based off of lecture slides and study guides. Super easy B! You've got to work a little bit more for the A. He curved our class drastically. An 86% was an A. Lectures are kinda boring but you should still take him!
5 exams that aren't difficult if you study! Yes, lectures are super long (he takes up all class time with a 15 minute break), but the class is super interesting! He sometimes assigned HW , but provided extra credit opportunities here and there. DO NOT SKIP CLASS OR ARRIVE LATE! He will deduct points! There's also a field trip! Great professor!
Such an interesting class and helpful prof! Getting an A in this class is definitely possible as long as you thoroughly study the notes and lecture. Also, he always grades the assignments and tests right away and has them ready to pass back within the next class session!
DR. Perry was by far my favorite professor, his lectures are clear and concise. book is optional, but recommended in case you miss class. study guides are available from first day of class so you can test yourself and study. he has a fun way of explaining topics and giving examples.
He is so fun and very passionate. I am so glad I took him this semester. Book is not needed, lectures are well organized and easy to follow. This class has 4 exams which are fairly easy if you pay attention and study but watch out for exam 3 it can bite you. Otherwise he is very willing to help and is one of the best professors I have had so far.
I would highly suggest taking his lab as well as the lecture. He is always super funny and pretty charming. The lab is really fun, there are several field trips, one of them even includes kayaking. And the exams for this lab are straightforward. Take him! He is the best!
LOVE Prof Perry. Hilarious guy! 4 exams, all based on lectures. Lab is super fun. 3 exams, 4 field trips. Attendance isn't mandatory but is essential for both!
I love Bruce! He's so passionate about teaching and is really there for you. Lectures were very informative, but he made them enjoyable. Exams were straight forward. His labs were hands on and fun. I definitely would recommend taking him.
Perry is funny in his own way. You might find yourself snickering at a few of his jokes. His class is very note based but also very interactive. There are labs everyday. If you don't show up to class, it's a little hard to catch up especially because there's so much work in those 3 hours. Gives a lot of extra credit. Overall amazing. Plus fieldtrip
Professor Perry was great and he truly cares about all his students succeeding in the class. He will help you if you need it and his class is definitely accessible if you are present in class and put in work while going through assignments in class
you'll learn a lot from this class its very interesting, and he's funny. attendance is mandatory if you want to do good on the tests, he gives study guides but you must have the notes to know the answers and notes are not uploaded to bb
No homework. All lectures. 3 exams. Copy everything he puts on the lecture slides and study them and you'll pass the class. Everything on the slides is what is on the test. He is a funny guy who hums and makes funny noises all class to keep you on your toes and not bored out of your mind. Would definitely take his class again.
Bruce is a great prof and genuinely cares about his students. Good man. Take this class for easy A. You have to put in effort studying so read the notes and do the study guides before exams. Final is non cumulative. Go to class every day or get notes from peers but NOTES ARE SO IMPORTANT. Write down EVERYTHING. Easy class, good professor. Recommend
No textbook or hw; take notes on everything he says because they'll be on the tests! Just make sure to do the study guides and review your notes and you're good to go! Final is NOT cumulative! He's funny and the class was much more interesting than I expected it to be! DO NOT skip class because his PP slides for notes are not available online!
Really great professor! Wish I could take him again.. He knows soo much about the subject and is really passionate about it. Take his class!!!!
There are 4 tests each worth 50 pts, which is your grade. No cumulative final. You have to attend to take the notes since he doesn't post online. Overall the class is pretty easy, dont worry about getting the book as he doesnt require one. Definitely take this class to fulfill physical science ge. He also grades/posts the test grade the same day!
Bruce Perry is an absolute beast. Loved this class so much. All you gotta do is show up, follow the lectures, and do the study guides. You'd have to really not care to get a bad grade; all the things you need to study are easily accessible. Just show up to class and do the study guide, and you'll be set. HIGHLY recommend.
A really great guy. Knows so much about whats he's teaching, is passionate about his job, and is a naturally super sweet person. Class and notes are important. Tests are your whole grade but he never includes anything we don't go over a lot. And you don't need to spend a lot on a textbook ! Highly recommend !!
OK, here's what you need to know: there are 4 exams, 50 multiple choice questions each. His lectures are based on powerpoints (not online) and are easy to follow. His exams questions tend to be specific so make sure to review your notes and do the study guides. TIP: study his diagrams well, they are usually extra credit on the exams
This class is an easy A, as long as you pay attention to lectures and fill out the study guide.
This teacher seriously opened my eyes to a realm of science I previously found boring, I am so sad that this class has ended that it makes me want to take it again! I just highly recommend taking him, even if as just an elective, you will not be disappointed, you will actually learn some pretty cool stuff! Oh and he gives tons of extra credit! :)
Bruce Perry is an amazing professor who is passionate about what he teaches. 4 exams is what you will be graded on and the lectures are PowerPoints in class so you have to go to class. Studying the notes was better than studying the study guide. Make sure to study the graphs. Hes super nice and reminds me of king triton lol.
What contributed most to your success? BRUCE Did anything affect your learning in the class? Nothing can hurt BRUCE! Advice for professor next time class is taught? Be BRUCE! TIP- You should be BRUCE! Super nice guy and passionate about the subject. 4 Exams with 50 Questions each, non-cumulative final. Study notes & diagrams while doing study guide
Four exams, 50 questions multiple choice + extra credit. Pretty much just write down everything that are on his PowerPoints and study the study guides before the exams. He isn't a super interesting speaker and he pretty much just reads from the slides, but for a GE it isn't a ton of work or especially difficult material.
The class is not very difficult. There are four exams, all not cumulative. The third one was the hardest because I got so confident after the first two. Beware! The final was as easy as the first two tests. His study guides are all on quizlets online but do them before so you can get an A. There is some questions on the test that are really random.
I usually always skip out on 8am classes throughout the semester, however with Professor Perrys class, I showed up every single time. I loved his teaching style and he brings back old school note taking. As a person, hes very nice and funny. 5 exams that cover lectures and labs. His grading is straight forward an offers plenty of extra credit !
Perry is passionate about teaching future teachers & about geology. You can tell he loves teaching and he is also very knowledgeable. This class is very lecture heavy, twice a week & each class is 2 hours and 45 mins. There are labs but mostly lecture. Tests are ALL LAB AND LECTURE so study that hard. Good thing is he breaks material into 5 exams
Professor Perry really cares about his students and their success. Hes truly passionate about teaching and more teachers should learn from him! His class is long but he always trys to make the material seem interesting and straight to the point. Hes a great professor
Professor Perry is actually one of my favorite. He is the professor that would go beyond to have his students understand the curriculum. The lecture is heavy for an 8 am class. He does give a break in between. Don't need a textbook all based on notes and labs. Tests are decent just need to put time and dedication.
Professor Perry is an amazing professor. He keeps that classy way of lecturing. No need to buy any textbooks or homework codes, just show up to his class and copy everything on his powerpoints and study them for the exams. Lectures could be boring sometimes especially for morning class but overall it was a great class. I learned a lot from him.
No book required. He won't post his notes online so you have to come to class. Just study the study guides he gives and you should be fine. The study guides are heavy from the notes. Super easy exams, 4 exams. I received 3 As and 1 B on the exams, overall A in the class. The class only has exams for grades with some extra credit on the exams.
BRUCE!!! He doesn't require a textbook, which means you cannot afford to skip class because the 4 exams are based entirely off lecture. So getting an A requires some serious studying. But 88% and up is considered an A, which helped me!
