I learned more in this lab than any other class I have taken
Wonderful professor! He has a nice melodic lecture voice...sounds like a narrator on PBS nature specials. I truly enjoyed his class!
I took him for Magic, Religion, and Witchcraft be prepared to read at least 2 different books. His tests are exactly like the study guide you just have to find the right answer and memorize!
Horrible. Very pompous and arrogant. I felt that he talked down to his students. He was unwilling to answer questions sometimes. Very confusing method of presenting notes. Very confusing exam questions. Take Lindell instead.
There is alot to remember in his class. The only assignments are 3 mid-terms. If you do well on memory tests, your ok. However, screw up once, and kiss that A goodbye. If your christian, look out, he openly disses them.He thinks they're good but flawed
Strange way of teaching. Does'nt make good connection with material. Silibus has no date structure, picks and pulls from all over book for material. Study guide practicly useless. Had to grade on curve, to get more than half of class above D level.
Exams are crazy. He expected us to memorize so much material. He assigned us 4 books for the semester. If you like reading 4 books at once and memorizing tons of material for the 4 page essay exam, this is the class for you.
Has a nice lecture voice, but class is very hard. Information seems scattered and does not follow syllabus. Verbalizes threats when people forget to turn off their cell phones. It turns him into a different person. Very odd.
I really like Pierini but previous comments are right--sometimes he goes Mr. Hyde on the class, if someone drops something, if a phone goes off, if someone asks a question that he has already answered. It makes me very uncomfortable but is kinda funny too. I think he is pretty tired of teaching.
Run away as fast as you can! Do not take him for Anthro 300. He hands out a study guide, but it is of no use. It's almost like he made it when he first started teaching and doesn't even follow it anymore. Test are like: Only A, A and B,C only, D none of the above. Your head will be spinning.
not an easy class. plan to do some studying
I absolutely cannot stand this man.He is the most arrogant, condescending, rude and uptight professor I have ever had.He gives out an absurd ammount of work and never explains how he wants it done, then when you turn it in he marks you down for things he didnt even mention.Stay away at all costs!!!
unbearable.
Do not take this teacher!!He is very clear about how he is in the begining of the semester..if you do not mind his toughness you'll do fine but if your expecting an easy class this is not the one..he makes you work for your grade...if possible avoid this teacher
Pierini's hard but in his defense at the end of the class you will know the subject.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. Demeaning, rude, improfessional, and a general prick.
The teacher overloads each class with too many expectations of taking notes. Can't concentrate on one subject or jumps around too much. Making it overwhelming to learn or grasp an idea. His demeanor is haughty or arrogant making the class unpleasant.
Nice professor if your cute and a sycophant, but if you're part of the other 98% of the class then you're screwed. Trying to read the text doesn't help much, but he looks highly on outside work and extra research. Shows favortism alot and not remotely shy about it.
Stay away from his class if you are not hard core about anthropology. He was the hardest teacher I had in City. I spent more time for his 1 unit lab class that any other class I had last semester.
This was the first anthro class I took and Im surprised Im still and Anth major.Arrogant, demeaning, and the workload and expectations are ludacris.Run from this class like the plague.Puts people down for not knowing things when it's an "intro" anth class.
Not for the faint of heart. I learned a lot about anthropology. If you're a slacker, don't take his class. If you're a serious student and you want to learn, he's a great teacher.
very boring... horrible teacher.... dont take him if you can help it... very rude... wants eveyrthing to be about him !
I actually liked his class, but that's because I like anthropology. Most of the comments the other people wrote are somewhat accurate---he can come across as demanding, or like a control freak, but I really didn't mind that much because I like to bust my ass and actually learn from school. Don't take the class from Pierini if you want an easy A, or if you don't like science or anthropology. You will probably regret it.
The class is very challenging, but he is willing to explain it to you if you ask. He is very intelectual, and alot of people have a hard time understanding him
Oh MY GOODNESS, I can't stand this man! He grades way too hard for a class that doesn't require any prerequisites. Plus, he makes you buy so many darn books that's not worth buying. He also makes you read your test answers out loud, which he only picks on the students he likes. Run!! Run... to another anthropology class!
i would have to suggest anyone planning to take the couse, might as well take the lab. his last test was pretty much on skulls and pictures (you had to identify them). if you take the lab it will be easier on the test when he asks you which one is ****erectus and which is ****ergaster.
This guy's got a LOT of knowledge, and he'll expect you to know it VERY WELL.He is SERIOUSLY lacking compassion. At one point he said he would give us questions designed to trick us and "make us think." Being tricked isn't thinking. His cell phone policy, shinike! He will dock points off you final should more than one phone ring in class.
This guy's a pretentious a**hole!! ANY other anthro teacher's better than HIM!!! Likes to humiliate his students and stress that they are lesser simpletons and peons! His teaching style sucks. RUN! AND DON'T LOOK BACK!!!
He was my worst teacher ever. I have always done well but when you work with a teach who just doesn't care is a waste of a semester. I wish I would have read these comments before taking the class.
He's a good teacher. Has humor. But he expects you to know a lot. So, you've got to take notes and actually listen. If you're not gonna do that, don't take his class.
My favorite was when he told a foreign student that we are in college and in college we speak English. Ouch! Good thing he's not an English teacher! Don't do it, even if you have to. You'll feel dumb after a class with him.
I hope he reads this and take these comments into consideration because he is a very prejudiced teacher. He does not take into consideration that Sac City is a diverse college. Everything that these folks say are very true. Beware, especially if you're not white...he told an asian girl that she was supposed to be submissive!
He was the worst teacher that I have had in Sacramento City College. He is very prejudice and very mean. He has made me cry in class.
VERY HARD CLASS!!!
Speaks in monotone voice, becomes very boring than you realize yourself dazing off almost everyday
Pretty much what everyone else has said: arrogant, condescending, shaming, unhelpful, and very biased.
Professor extremely anal about how work should be presented and written... Gives too much information in such little time.
Very very technical with his jargon, he is an expert in this area but he speaks in monotone and when i was in class i was lost theres alot of material in his course he makes you feel dumb when you ask questions he'll rephrase your question than give you a answer lol but you gotta read alot in this class and he doesn't grade on a curve be prepared!
he's very hoity-toity and is very anal. this class made me never wnat to learn about anthropology again!
I aggree with the person who rated Bruce before me. He made me never want to learn about anthropology again. He is rude and offensive. He does not set his students up for success. In fact he sets them up to fail. I was warned by a friend about him and did not listen. I now have my first C ever on my transcript.
Very knowledgeable & helpful. Encourages discussion in the class.
I have taken his Physical Anthro and Magic Witch Craft & Religion. He is certainly a teacher who expects a lot from his students. He is a great teacher, and you will learn a ton, but be ready to put in the effort. I've now switched majors to anthro after taking his classes.
Very good instructor. If you are just trying to skate by, don't take him, but if you want to actually learn & get something out of the class, I highly recommend him. Very helpful. Encourages questions.
he is hard
Took him for physical anthro as well as the lab. He definitely is one of the harder teachers I've had here- he expects a lot. However, his expectations weren't unreasonable. He is always very clear, and is available for questions anytime. He's a fair teacher, and a very intelligent guy. You work for your grade, but it's worth it.
Very hard, but learned a lot. He also gives extra credit! Just study and use the tutor and you'll do fine.
Very intelligent instructor. Always available for help, responds quickly to email. Has genuine interest in helping his students succeed. Difficult class but Mr. Pierini makes concepts easy to understand. Best science teacher I've ever had! Tests mostly based on lecture. Homework assignments optional but helpful for tests. Great teacher!
I took physical anthro with this professor, and although he is clearly passionate about this field, and definitely knows his stuff, his class is almost impossible to pass. He's relatively strict, and don't expect to miss more than one or two classes because you will not catch up. The tests are extremely difficult. LOTS OF STUDYING REQUIRED!!
Intelligent, helpful and passionate about the subject. It wasn't an easy class but I really enjoyed it and would take it again.
He is a ridiculously hard teacher! He expects so much for an INTRO class! His tests are like: Only A, B, A and B only, or all of the above. He forgets that students have other classes?NOT JUST HIS! His demeanor is arrogant and ?snooty?, making students feel stupid. WARNING: Don't take this teacher unless anthropology is your major.
It was really hard to reach him for any kind of help. i didn't care for the ways that he treated some students, especially if english is your second language. careful when taking him.
Ok he was very difficult. His test were hard especially the first one. The final was a piece of cake though. He highly encourages tutoring, and he is sometimes snooty. He has an extremely large amount of passion however, he is so constant on that. If you want to learn take this class.
You will earn your grade in his class. He is a scientist thus he requires the scientific method in his class. You will not pass by with half assed answers and work in his class. I loved this teacher. This was one of few classes that were actually challenging for me. He keeps the standard high as where it should be.
Very hard very demanding..his tests r rediculously hard..he forgets his class is not the only class we have.I am glad i dropped or else would have screwd up my GPA.All of my friends got Cs or Ds.Stay away from him.I have 3.9 GPA but this guy was too much!!
Don't take this class if you aren't serious. I tried to wing this class, and if you don't actually try and study you will find him "snooty" and "uncaring" like the other students have. Thanks to his class I have found the holes in my studying and have learned for the better. I am excited to take his lab.
I enrollerd in this class a some semesters back because I needed this class. I was appauled by the way this teacher behaved. Very cold, uncaring, and rude. And this was all on the first day of class. I am not amazed to see that many share this same experience, but I am amazed that he no one has viewed these complaints and did something about it.
He's not very understanding and he's kind of a blow hard
People think he's a hard teacher, but he's doing university-quality teaching at a community college. He doesn't coddle students and I think they're shocked for a professor to actually treat them like adults. Overall, he's fully versed in his field and passionate about Anthropology and that comes across in class.
This is in no way an easy teacher. You MUST stay caught up on reading, and study hard! He twists the wording on his tests to try to confuse you. Show up on time or he will drop you with no warning!!! He is a little pretentious and snooty, but very smart. He offers tutoring for those who are having trouble. I recommend, but be prepared to work hard!
This class is really difficult. You can definitely get help but it's still a hard class. I suggest taking the lab to make things easier. My one complaint is that the stuff on the study guides usually includes material that he didn't lecture on and did not tell us where to find the information
He is definitely a tuff prof, he does offer some extra-credit and help. I'd suggest doing it all. For any students who want to prepare themselves for University's, take this course. I guess when all said and done you feel accomplished if you passed.
I had him for Native Peoples of California. He has favorites, and no shame about showing it. Easily distracted during lecture. Incompetent at giving the information needed for tests. Will grade your essay down if your voiced opinion differs from his. Gave me my lowest college grade to date, B-, and I am an Engineering student at a university.
he was pretentious and hard to talk to. He definitely picks favorites and I personally felt humiliated at times. He will be tough on you if you have different beliefs than his especially if you are a religious person. He can be offensive
I loved his class.Yes he is hard, but if you come to class, pay attention, participate, and read the text,in short, if you act like a college student then no problem. He expects alot for a Jr. college level class, but so worth it.
Teacher with lots of knowledge in current events and what he's teaching as well. Will help anyone if you approach him. His class is hard if you don't pay attention or read the notes.
Worst class EVER. A nightmare of a non pre-req core class. Extremely voluminous work load. Pretentious, large ego. Acts as if you are a biology major when its just a core class. Will embarrass you in front of class. His lab is worse and more work than credit given (and not worth it). I am an A student and he gave me lowest grade ever received.
Professor is clearly detailed oriented and enforces heavily. Very strict on what he wants and multiple choice exam are very similar. Either you get it right or wrong, there is no partial points even though you know the gist of it. Cannot grade points correctly and weigh points off by far. Almost fail his class because he didn't input one of my test
Pierini is very into details. Pretty flexible on due dates however grading is very harsh and specific. Spelling is a BIG issue for him considering it is a science course not a grammer or writing. Many students this semester fail his primate observation lab because simply of grammer or spelling minor mistakes. Overall difficult to pass. points
Very picky. Strict. Hard grading. Wants everything extremely well organized. Too much hard assignments for 1 unit.
This class is hard and it is definitely not an easy A. He grades really strictly and his teaching method is terrible. Buy the text because that is a majority of his test questions. I scraped my way to get a B, a low one at that. If you take him, make sure you are on his good side. Would not recommend this professor.
He is passionate about the course but he is extremely BORING!! And he plays favoritism if you don't participate or talk to him he won't remember your name.
He is SOOO unfairly rated. His class was pretty difficult, but interesting. He's a very good professor, not much hw, but keep up in class and study for the test. I'm not that good at science, but I got an A in the end.
I didn't particularly like this professor for his personality, as he was pretty condescending and rude, but he did know his stuff and engaged me in the class material. He's a good professor teaching wise, but not the most affable guy.
I don't know why he gets so many bad reviews. The only problem is that his tests are REALLY hard. He offers a ton of extra credit, even gives you option of raising test scores simply by meeting with him afterwards. He's really nice if you put in effort. No homework, just quizzes and exams. Watched alot of DVD's.
I can't stand him. He is very arrogant and if you answer wrong in class he makes you feel stupid. His tests are so hard that the students had an AVERAGE grade of 50!!! If your thinking of this class then get the other anthro teacher, he gives extra credit but he grades it badly. Always finds mistakes in everything you do. Lots of DVD's.
This class is RIDICULOUS.He is a pretty nice guy but not when it comes to his grading, tests, lecture. He moves around the notes kinda like he has ADD.The average grade mid-semester was a D.I withdrew from this class bc there was no saving my grade.Lots of extra credit but only for 2 points.Tests are crazy hard.I warm people not to take this class!!
Like most ratings, his tests are extremely difficult. NEVER EVER miss a lecture, you'll be screwed because all of his test info is from lecture. Mumbles and rushes in lecture. Test average 50? Not surprised. Extra credit? Yes, but I had a busy schedule and could never fit is "one hour on Wed." time slot. While he loves the topic, two thumbs down.
Worse class!! His tests are really hard, study guide doesn't help much. Theres no homework which is kinda nice but then again your grade is based on your test scores. He offers extra credit worth 1 point which is ridiculous. He's rude as well. Rarely use the book. If you arent a good test taker or can remeber everything he says dont take the class
He is a very strict teacher! I often felt intimidated by him. he can be condescending and rude. he's very detailed about subject matter and expects his students to be too. tests are impossible to pass, even with multiple choice. his final was a killer. I dont recommend him. Passed the class with a C and that's the hardest C i've ever earned.
I have literally never learned SO MUCH in a class before! Every subject I learned was so intriguing and wonderful! I don't understand why everyone is saying the test were difficult-they're NOT if you STUDY DAT BOOK! Hate to break it to everyone, but if you want to pass this class, you need to open up that monkey book and be willing to study A LOT!
Very smart, nice guy. Passionate about Anthropolgy but I don't recommend this course unless you have some interest because he lectures the entire time and hard to retain the info. Expects a lot from you but will help you if you need it. prepare for a lot of reading!
He's a good teacher and really into anthro, however his tests are so incredibly hard; filled with trick answers where you can get it right but not fully right. All the creditall your grade is from those super hard tests so you have to study way too much. It's an interesting and fun class but really really tough even if you understand the subjects.
really bad teacher. his notes are really messy. test are super hard and tricky. his lectures are really boring. talks really low.
Tests are HORRIBLE. Even if you 100% understand the material, the tests are full of trick questions and he isn't approachable. Tests are also all your grade. Seems to get upset towards questions and is grumpy. It's like he is working against students who understand the material. A and B students who try hard can still fail his class, easily.
Let me break it down for you, DO NOT BY ANY MEANS TAKE HIS LAB CLASS. He's rude, arrogant, pessimistic, and by no means a professor. He gives horrible directions when directing a lab. He acts like his class should be your number one priority, he makes it feel uncomfortable when asking for help or guidance.
Mr. Pierini is a very passionate man about Anthropology. As long as you read the material and show up to class you will pass, do very well on tests, and even learn a thing or two about your environment. This class helped me look at religion in a new perspective, and I recommend this class to anyone.
You're going to do a lot of reading, and that's the only homework there is. Notes are important so be sure to take them. The quizzes and exams are fairly easy. The final had too much materials to cover and to memorize for the final exam.
Perini's lab was the most work I have ever done for 1 unit. And it was amazing. A passionate instructor who believes his students are capable of amazing things is such a gift. Let go of your resistance and schedule a slightly easy load the semester you take this course and you will be amazed at what you can learn.
Pierini was my favorite professor last semester. His lectures are clear and cover everything so well that I did not have to purchase the textbook. His tests are hard but he gives study guides that fully prepare you for the questions. There is also an immense amount of extra credit that can fluff up your grade. Definitely an expert in his field.
Warning: stay away from this professor I'm a straight A student and dropped the class half way through the semester. His tests are confusing he sets you up to fail the class and when you ask him a question he makes you feel stupid. He gives extra credit that are worth 2 points but you will only get 1. If Anthropology is not your life stay away!
He talks really low and can barely hear him. Tests are difficult and have tricky choices for answers. He puts up a lot of videos and handouts for students to take notes, making it feel like we're being taught by a substitute teacher from high school. I read the textbook for more understanding, but it didn't help with the tests anyway.
Test's are tricky, they have more than one answer. He speaks very low, hard to understand, cant even read his hand writing on the board. He expects you to already be familiar with everything he teaches. He gives out extra credit, but its hard. You have to have all the information known and drilled into you to pass. Avoid taking him.
