very good professor...the best in the ids dept.
boring, rambles, too acedemic
Cares about his students a lot. Cool attitude. Funny. Really knows his stuff.
Dr. Reinig is the best. Very clear test outline. No suprises on test day.
A++++ professor, very professional, knows he field and care about the information he teaches. Best professor in the IDS department
No Comments
I loved him, he makes all the other teachers look like a joke. He actually gives his own lectures instead of the boring textbook powerpoints. TAKE HIM
He's the best IDS teacher he actually KNOWS what hes talking about, one of the VERY VERY FEW GOOD IDS teachers
I hate math, I hate statistics, but I loved this class! He is a great professor who knows his stuff and does very well teaching the information. It's still a hard subject, but take him!
The best IDS teacher at SDSU. Loves to teach and it shows. The worst teacher at SDSU: Dr. Amaroso. Next worst: Shaul. Next: Smolensky And finally: Koster.
Reinig is cool guy. But he is not easy and it is very hard to get an A. Still, if your goal is a C or a B you will like his class.
Good teacher. He the man. Wear a tie when you present in his class, though.
This professor is the best IDS professor at SDSU. He not just teaches but he teaches with a passion which makes him so different from the other professor. He also cares alot for his students and always willing to help when needed.
One of the best professors, if not the best.
He is the best teacher at SDSU. Take him just learn the study guide and you will do ok.
ONE OF THE BEST IDS PROFESSORS. SHOWS HIS PASSION FOR TEACHING. VERY HELPFUL BUT HE TEST ARE SORT OF HARD BUT IF YOU DO WELL ON THE OTHER ASSIGNEMENTS IT'S AN EASY "B". MUST TAKE HIM FOR IDS. DO NOT TAKE ANYONE ELSE. HE IS THE BEST.
He is the best IDS 301 professor at state. If you take stats, take him, he explains the info really well and very helpful in office hours. Cares about the students and subject. Still hard subject and tests are difficult, but take him.
BEST IDS TEACHER AT STATE. EXPLAINS EVERYTHING CLEARLY AND ANSWERS ALL QUESTIONS. YOU CAN DO WELL IF YOU GO TO EVERY CLASS AND DO ALL HOMEWORK. OPEN NOTE EXAMS. DID I MENTION GREAT GREAT TEACHER?
This teacher is one of the best statistics/math teachers I have ever had. He is so clear about the material and more than happy to help anyone who is struggling. He has open note and open book tests, which help, but the material is still really hard.
VERY EASY CLASS, JUST READ ARTICLES AND FOLLOW PP SLIDES. TESTS ARE VERY CLEAR. TAKE HIM AND NOONE ELSE!!!
GOOD CLASS! very cool guy, lectures are interesting and funny sometimes...test doesn't sound as hard as he makes it seem...mid-term + final + 2 group presentations
The best teacher ever at SDSU. Knows what he is talking about and is very clear and very willing to help. Have to say I learned more from him in one semester than I did during my whole time at SDSU. Take him whenever you can.
Awesome guy, and even better professor! He makes the material easily understandable and is always willing to help. One of the best instructors I've ever had!

Seriously if you are going to take this course... take him... i advise no one else.. you will never need A + cuz he explains it as easy as possible... passionate.. just great.. funnny... take him take him take him
He's so serious about IDS that it's hilarious. Tests are mild; if you do the problems and understand his lectures, it'll be fine. copy the formulas & examples on your cheatsheet; it was helpful to me. Ask him questions, he's really helpful.
REINIG IS A PRETTY HOT TEACHER. OH YEAH AND HIS CLASS IS PRETTY EASY BECAUSE HE EXPLAINS THE MATERIAL VERY WELL. JUST GO TO CLASS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES...DON'T GO TO A+ REVIEW OR DO THE HOMEWORK PROBLEMS--JUST GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY AND TAKE GOOD NOTES!
Teacher gives reviews that are misleading! spends lot's of time helping students in the wrong direction. IE Probability
One of the best teachers. Lets you use notes on test. Lecture questions are just like test, some are identical. If you try at all, you can pass this class. He sets everyone up to pass, if you don't you did not put in enough effort or did not ask for help.
Great professor ..one of the best at SDSU... easygoing..helpful...and gorgeous... follow the lectures and do the homework
He loves his job and it shows. The tests are challenging but you come out of this class understanding stats and enjoying it. If you pay attention to his lectures and do the assigned(optional)homework in the textbook, then you're guaranteed a B.
nice guy. multiple choice test which can cause you to lose points if you miss the first question in a serious of 4 questions which is not fair. but, life is not fair. overall, nice guy, do the optinal hw and you will do fine. also, you will have 4 computer assignment.
He is the man. Wants everyone to succeed. Let's you use a cheatsheat. Understand problems from class and you wouldn't even need to read the book, but you need it for computer assignments. Copy problems directly from class to cheatsheat and you will get happy with your grade.
Very acheivable A. Go to every class. You only need to study lecture notes. 4 time-consuming computer assignments are each 2.5% of your total grade. They could mean the difference between an A or B. 3 midterms. Lowest score is 15%,middle =20% and highest =25%. Final =30%. 2page cheat sheet allowed.
I didnt do squat and got a B-. I dont think he is a great teacher but if you do atleast a little homework you should do well. A+ review is helpful but slipped a little with this class so dont rely on it for success.
class is not that boring. must know how to do the problems (which he does step by step) in order to do good on the test. assigns problems but doesn't collect them (its helpful to do them because they can be on the exam). assigns computer assignments that are not worth much, but take a lot of time.
Nice guy
He is a nice guy and keeps the class interesting with jokes. As far as the class those of you who are good at math and think it will be a breeze don't be fooled. His tests are designed to see if you understand the material conceptually and may have slight modifications from what you learned in class.
Reinig is good teacher. helpful, answers any questions, friendly, never makes anyone feel like an idiot. tests are exactly like the lectures and he gives formulas. overall great experience. About 8hrs practice and 3 hrs studying for each exam, got me a 96%. good curve; rewards improvement. only critique; assignments are too much work for only 10%.
Everyone should have a best friend like Dr. Reinig - smart, ironic, funny - and he really, really wants you to succeed. Gives encouragement at every hurdle. Grateful to have spent a semester with one of the campus' nicest guys. A challenging subject that requires a lot of investment in time and effort. This guy knows his stuff! Encounter greatness!
Concentrate on the lecture notes and do the homework problems for understanding of how to do the problemes "inside & out".His class is on the verge of changing because the 2 page of front & back notes are no longer going to be allowed on tests. From summer on everyone gets the basic formula sheet. Thank You Professor Reinig Great Job!
If you hate stats he is the prof for you. lays everything out clearly. very organized and approachable. do ALL assignments and go to a+ for every exam.
WOW! This guy is awesome. He spoon feeds the information to you making it hard not to get an A. He's easy on the eyes, too!! No need to go to A+ review...
Bruce is one cool M'r F'r. I've heard war stories of this class but it is impossible not to learn this crap...if you go to class, which is a must b/c A+ review doesn't do sheet. Got my lowest grade on test for which I relied on A+ review. I pulled a B and damn proud!
Took Reinig and then took Beatty. Reinig (perhaps because of a lot of pressure or old age) has been teaching statistics incorrectly. Probability, finding the median, and Fisher's LSD, wrong...wrong...and wrong. He also made a girl cry in the Spring 03 Class.
Unhelpful, rude and boring. Take someone else, need I say more. He also doesn't test on what he teaches.
Pathetic. Tries to pass off as a nice guy but can't teach statistics. The reviewers below got a whole different Reinig because he sucks big time now.
He is a cool guy but don't believe him when he says he does not give trick questions on his tests.
nice guy took in the summer rush through, hard class lecture seems easy but on exam question are very tricky, recommend do hw to pass class cause hw help prepare for his tricky exam question. keep you in class the whole time. never let you out one minute early
The best teacher I have ever had in SDSU, highly recommend!!
Kinda mean during office hours and has realy hard tests. It's odd because he comes off as pretty straight forward in class but on test day has all these tricks and weird questions he never taught us. Take someone else.
took it in the summer (horrible teacher) lecture seems super easy and straight forward but on the exam the qestion are hard and are not straight like the lecture. my advice if you want to do well in this class need to do the hw to prepare for the test.computer assignemnt make sure follow guideline b/c he take lots of point off if u dont follow it.
Got an A in the class & an A on every test. His tests are on what he talks about outside of the notes. pay attn! Do the HW questions, they r on the exams. he loves statistics... and he made me like it too. :)
I got a C over the summer I could've gotten a better grade if I did the hwk to big with instead of reading the slides and relying that as a only source of studying. Overall, a good prof. take him if you can Beatty scared me.

Very Hard class. i would reccomend taking somebody else.
Yelled at me for not understanding probability in his office. I reported him to the business college, take anyone but this guy.

Ok maybe it is a little challenging, but compared to other professors that I've heard about it seems not too bad. He lays out the lecture so that it is easy to follow, posts notes on blackboard for you to print and fill in and... oh yeah I have a huge crush on him (must be the dorky intelligence).
really bad at teaching. prepare to print out 100+ notes from the web and did I mention he grades down on principle? Acts annoyed when you ask him questions and shows little interest in students actually learning. Can't believe this stuff still is around.
Beatty is way easier.
Great teacher. His passion rubs off on you about the subject. Has his own notes prepared for you and you just have to study those. People that rate him low must just want a cake walk through IDS 301. Welcome to Upper Division, cake walks are harder to come by. Great teacher and class, i recommend taking Reinig. You get to drop ur lowest test scor
Seriously one of the best teachers I have had at SDSU. I think he loves what he does. Even at 8 in the morning! I would reccommend him. Some people just don't realize that you actually have to study! 3 exams, a final and 4 pretty easy/interesting assignments. Drops the lowest exam score. E-mails back right away. Good guy, take him!
Reinig is TOTALLY helpful. He never seemed annoyed to answer questions as other people have claimed. He really is passionate about what he teaches and shows that through lame jokes you can't help but laugh at. 3 midterms (lowest dropped), 4 easy computer assignments, one final. NOTE: in order to do well, you HAVE to do the homework!
I'm not sure where the rater below was, but I wish I was with them. Reinig rushed me out of his office and even told me that I should consider changing my major. I felt no support whatsoever and his suprises on test day arn't cute either.
this class totally blows, but reinig is an amazing teacher. he is so stoked about stats it's rediculous, but i love it. too bad he's married. i'd totally hook up with him. he's so dorky it's frightfully attractive.
Reinig is a dorky but good professor. Enjoys what he's doing, however course material blows! Extremely anal retentive on the 4 BS assignments. Midterms are the same--information I will never use in my life, and suffered thru this class for two semesters! DO ALL OF THE HW and definitely go to class and office hours. Class average on exams is al
Definetely the best teacher at SDSU.He loves his subject, always helpful+polite, answers all questions(even stupid ones),best teaching techniques. All people that rate him badly seem to have forgotten to study for the course.Do the homework! And the best:You can actually use the content of this course!HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!
Irritating HW assigments and tests are difficult as well. The stuff you do while associated with statistics, has no real use outside the class (unless you are a statistician or perhaps...maybe if you work as a marketer.) I would take another prof.
Comment on: "And taking Reinig is a sure way not to learn. He teaches stuff incorrectly; A+ will tell you this when you go to there session. He gets irritated with questions" =>That is completely ****!Trust me on that!I got an A without A+ review etc. and I know that he taught everything correctly. He encourages to study!Highly recommend course!
There are no surprises on his tests, his tests are on his notes from class. You will have to put in a lot of study time but this is upper division so what do you expect. 4 HW assignments that are incredibly easy and 4 tests that you get to drop your lowest score. Great teacher, passionate about stats and makes you enjoy the class.
Dr. Reinig actually makes stats interesting, if that's even possible. You can tell he loves his job and is very clear on what he wants on homework and what will be on tests. There are three midterms and the final. Your lowest midterm grade is dropped. Also four excel assignments, which take a while to complete, but are not that difficult.
he's awesome!!!! he's so sweet...just study hard and he has NO tricks on the exam...very sraightfoward..he's the bst 301 teacher
Outstanding teacher. He loves the subject matter and he is good at breaking down the fundamentals. Make sure you print out the lectures and bring to class. Test questions are based on lectures & readings from text. Tests are straightforward. Make sure to read and follow ALL instructions on computer assignments. Best teacher in Business school
reinig is a nazi. he is a statistical nazi. if you have trouble with math-related topics take beatty.
Teacher is very helpful. Lectures were well prepared and interesting. Tests are right from the lectures and homework. Do the work and attend class and you'll get a good grade, no problem.
He is really helpful and provides his own set of notes for you. He is enthusiatic about the subject and loves when you ask questions. He is also pretty funny.
He is really helpful and provides his own set of notes for you. He is enthusiatic about the subject and loves when you ask questions. He is also pretty funny.
One of the best professors I've had at SDSU. This was my second attempt at IDS 301. I still barely passed with a C even though I got an 87.5 on the final. I learned a LOT in this class. He gave four project type assignments, which were easy A's. Each worth 2.5% of final grade. Definitely study hard and search test for clues to other m/c questions.
Quite possibly the best teacher I've ever had. I had no interest in statistics coming into his class, but his class was so well taught that it became my favorite subject for the semester. Class is not easy, but his lectures are clear and easy to follow. Study and do the homework and you will do fine in the class. Highly recommended!
One of the best professors I've ever had. Comes to class with a genuine enthusiasm for the subject that is infectious. I had a lot of apprehension prior to taking this class and it turned out to be the most interesting course so far. Have to stay current with the homework and pay attention to his excellent lectures and you will do fine.
One of the best teachers I've ever had - funny, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Course material is difficult but read, do the hw and study and you'll do fine. Grades are based on 2 midterms, 4 case studies and a final. He is very clear on what chapters and topics will be on exams. I was dreading this course but really enjoyed it!
Class attendance is not req'd, but if you want to get an A, it'd be in your best interest. Stay caught up with lecture notes and homework problems (not graded.) Very anal about his grading. He does grade on a curve at the end of the course.
Reinig RULES...best stats professor ever. Rules to an A: 1)Do the HW..tests come straight from them.2)Follow instructions to the letter for the cases and if something is unclear ask. Dr. Reinig is a fantastic lecturer and wants everyone to understand and apply the material to real life. Great professor.
Best professor I've ever had! Didn't learn statistics in my undergrad, but finally did it when I took Reinig's class. I love his enthusiasm and the real like examples he gives. You can get an A if you study the homework problems.
This class sucks big time. The stuff that he teaches is useless in real life unless you are an statistics professional. He expects you to be an excel master. The excel assignments are horrible. Too much material for just one class. Take someone else. I got a B going to class everyday and doing the homework. the lectures are boring and useless.
Good professor, really passionate about statistics. He gives excel assignments (2), which are doable. His tests are pretty straight forward, final is basically a compilation of the other midterms. Recommend this professor.
Extremely helpful and crystal clear. Do your homework regularly and pay attention in class, get the lecture notes printed out and write down everything he says, as you will get everything he says for MCQ's. The exams are tough but assignments are very easy.
Dr. Reinig is exactly what all professors should be: smart, personable, engaging, and challenging, but fair. You MUST put in effort to do well in his class... but he's such a great teacher, the effort is worth it. My favorite professor at SDSU!
Definitely one of the best professors I have ever had! He makes statistical analysis extremely interesting with real world examples (gambling as well!!) His tests are tough but if you keep up with homework and exercises you can get an A!
This class is pretty hard, but Dr.Reinig is an excellent professor. He explains things very well.He is very willing to help students, but as long as you do all the HW Problems and understand them, you are golden. You have to go to the class as he does not give you everything on the PPT slides.Extremely helpful in office and very approachable all thetime
best professor i've ever had. he is very passionate about what he teaches and truly cares about his students. he is extremely good at explaining the concepts, and never puts anyone down for asking a question. the tests are very fair, if you do the hw and go to class you'll get an A. i definitely recommend him!
First two exams review material from 119. Third exam was toughest. Fourth (non-cumulative) was super easy. No mandatory HW. Do all probs b4 exams to prep. No surprises. Frequent quizzes on book/slide material. Cases are easy and done in excel. Nice guy who's into the subject. LEARN TO DO PROBS ON TI-84!
Didn't Realize this class was online when I signed up for it. You have to watch the recorded lectures! At least 1 online quiz every week and 3 exams that you take in the library and one final non-cumulative. There are also a few case studies. Takes questions come from HW problems and recorded lectures. Hard class but he's willing to help you out!
Horrible. He "teaches" online but its pretty much a self-taught class. Took summer course. 3 assignments a week (AT LEAST), lectures are horrible. Assigns optional hw, but its A LOT! Midterms are SUPER difficult! Case assingments are a complete waste of time. Stats is better taught with a calculator but he does everything by hand. DONT TAKE HIM!
Took online, during summer. Bad video lectures, rambles endlessly about easy stuff, skips over hard things that need explaining. 2-3 chapters a week + quizzes + excel case, way too many HW problems to fit into available hours. Teach yourself from book. Exams very hard, q's often very different from lecture/reading. Frustrating, do not recommend.
You are a fool if you do not take Reinig for MIS 301! He's the best. I took the class online over summer break and it was the best online class i've ever taken. His lectures are SO clear, he literally walks you through every problem step by step so you are prepared for his tests. Material is hard but Reinig explains it well! Take good notes.
The best professor I have ever had! You need to work hard in the class but he makes the concepts crystal clear. Fair and intelligent. Good sense of humor to make the class interesting.
Make no mistake, MIS 301 is not an easy course and although Professor Reinig is extremely bright and well rounded in the discipline of statistics, he makes his students perform calculations by hand which makes the class twice as difficult compared to if he taught it by using a scientific calculator. Other than that, he was a good guy who cares.
Dr Reinig is by far one of the best professors I've ever had (and I have 3 degrees). His lectures are very helpful as he goes through a lot of problems and examples. Cases are easy, long and not worth a lot of percentage. Tests are quite tough but if you pay attention in class and do your homework you'll be fine!
Great teacher makes you laugh and gives great real world examples. Very hard class tho. You will have to study a lot, exams are hard! Class is not mandatory, but in his lectures he gives you only part of the notes and has you fill in blanks during class. Does not post full notes so if you don't attend you will be at a huge disadvantage for exams.
Funny professor but very hard class. Reinig is very passionate about statistics and he does a great job introduce this difficult subject. Go to his lectures, he provides extra notes on his slides that you can't get on blackboard. He grades very tough and only weights the final exam. 1st Exam (25%), 2nd Exam (30%), Final Exam (35%), Test Cases (1%).
Great professor. Makes the class fun. Really makes learning statistics enjoyable. Shows you how it is applicable in your career. If you do the hw and practice it over and over again you should be well prepared for the exams.
weekly homework, exams are tough but good professor
Nice and compassionate professor that will work with you to succeed. He was punctual on starting class on time and the comprehensive exam was well reasonable.
It was a great class! I was scared of the subject but his lectures were easy to follow. Make sure to practice regularly, do the homework, and keep up with the class and you will get a great grade. This subject is not the type to study a day before the exam as it requires practice. Professor ensured to show the practical usefulness of the subject.
Pros: easy grader, not too hard. Cons: lots of assignments and almost everything is written by hand for the assignments but not all. I would definitely take again but if you slack or procrastinate, I would not recommend you to take. Just some advising and advice, before you decide to take this class or course from this professor. Good luck!
Mr. Reinig made a difficult course enjoyable and doable if you showed up to class. All his exams were fair and reflected what we learned in class.
I loved how Professor Reinig taught. Do listen in class and do the homework and you will be set for this class.
Professor Reinig was an amazing professor. He made a very boring, difficult class so much simpler. I know other professors with his class are heavy on excel on their exams but he was much more math based which I enjoyed. He is the sweetest man ever!
Reinig's BA623 is a challenging course, but his engaging lectures make the difficult content manageable. Completing assignments and staying on top of the material is key. I found Unstuckstudy helpful for practice and review. Definitely attend class - it's mandatory and you'll need those notes for the exams.
Prof Reinig spent a lot of time on Excel, when some students needed more support learning how to do the problems by hand(just like the tests were). But overall great guy, and really loves teaching.
He isn't direct with what to study for tests. He'd waste time in class showing us how to do the homework, yet we were never tested on Excel. He wanted all the math to be done by hand - I will never use ANY of the concepts he taught (as a marketing major) and I only remember a handful of the excel commands since they were so specific to assignments
He's a nice guy, but he is SO stubborn. He refused to change his mind that 3.1 is different from 3.100. He'd waste half the class teaching Excel functions and never have any of the concepts on the test. He'd make us do ALL math by hand- I'm never using these concepts ever again and I only remember a handful of functions since they were so specific.
Great class, learned a lot. You can clearly see this guy loves what he teaches. He makes the exam from the homework so no random surprises. His lectures are clear and easy to follow. Good dude overall
Reinig is a good professor albeit a bit dry and he's always willing to help out. He doesn't cover something in class? Schedule office hours. He teaches Excel but it's not testable? Okay, one less thing to worry about. Treat this like a math class more than a business class, put in some extra work, and you'll be fine.
I was very scared to take this course specially online. However he was an amazing professor. Graded through 3 in-person exams and homework. If you really take the time to understand the lectures and hw you will pass the exams. He gives detailed study guides and lectures are specific to exams.
Don't take this guy. He's by far the worst professor to teach MIS 301. I've talked to other students taking MIS 301 w/other professors, & their material is much easier to grasp. Lectures only make sense if you read the book; not great if you're a visual learner. Most of your grade relies on your exams; don't bother with the Excel its not on exams.
Reinig is a good professor. Grades are based on homework and exams. He teaches Excel, but it's not tested. He provides study guides, and the exams are exactly like the lectures and homework. Lecture content could get confusing, so I recommend going to on-campus tutoring and emailing him or office hours and he'll gladly help.
Tests are like the lectures, just do the homework, don't use chat to help you out, you can literally retake the homework infinite times till you get a good grade, so make sure you practice understanding the problems. If you do that the exam will feel soo easy! His personality is the best, caring, funny, attentive!! 100% will take him again!
Professor Reinig does a great job explaining the materiel in the lectures. They are very related to what he tests on. This is a tough course overall, but if you watch the lectures, do the homework, and practice the problems you will do fine. Professor Reinig cares about the success of his students, and the course is setup to help them succeed.
