Different teaching style. He uses the textbook, no ppts. Reads a section of the book and flips to end of the chapter to give you problems to work during class. He does "turn and talks" with the person you sit next to to discuss the problems to keep you engaged. 4 exams during the semester, no extra credit, hw on MAL, quizzes on MAL. ATTEND CLASS!!!

This class is one of the most difficult classes you will take during university. I think people get irritated because this is one of those classes that you have to stay on top of the material every single day or you will fall behind. You will not like the class if you are not a hard worker and you aren't dedicated to getting a good grade.

This is a rigorous class, don't take it if you don't want to work your a** off. Definitely worth it, I do feel like I know more and will be better prepared in the work force.

Good class, not an easy course by any means, but Professor Runyan worked with me when I was ill and I was able to make a solid B in the class. I feel like I know more, too.

I loved this Professor! This is a tough class, and you need to read the book, and come to lectures, but Dr. Runyan is really there for you. He truly cares and that goes a long way. Most of your grade is from the tests, but a sure fire way to screw yourself out of an "A" is to not to the homework and quizzes.

If you struggle in accounting, take Runyan. I learned everything I needed without even trying. He is fun to listen to and makes sure to be as fair as possible when grading . Not too much Homework or quizzes. Would not have done so well if I had a different teacher.

Runyan is awesome. You can tell he is very passionate, and it's contagious. Not even an acct/fin major, but I took this class to learn. It was tough, received a C. I advise you pay attention to the text highlighted in blue to the side of your book. A lot of that will be on the test. Tests were hard, but it's an upper level class. Get use to it.

This guy is hilarious. He has a great method of teaching by getting everyone involved and working on the problems in class together. Would absolutely take him again.

Great professor. Dr. Runyan is very helpful and of one of the best professors I have had. However, you're going to work harder than you thought was possible. This was the toughest class I have ever taken. Expect more than 50% of your classmates to drop. Do not miss a single class.

On the first day of class, he said 62% of the class either drops out or fails, I was TERRIFIED. Now, I am SO THANKFUL that I took Runyan over the other professors. If you are lazy, do not take him. If you are ready to learn, work extremely hard and are an Accounting major, take him! He is very willing to go out of his way to help you learn.

Runyan is a great professor. He knows exactly what he is talking about. Do not take him if you do not want to put in effort. The course is difficult but it is definitely passable. He is funny and will try to help you learn in any way that he can. If your major is accounting you should take Runyan. You will learn a lot.

Runyan is clear about his expectations for the class from the get-go - he's tough but he wants you to learn. Attendance isn't mandatory but he goes over the harder concepts during class & clues you in on what key concepts to study. He likes making you discuss things with the people around you but doesn't pressure you too much to talk to others haha

Very easy going. Told us first day of class that although going to class is very beneficial (really is) he understood absence from the people who only had his class that day and drove from far. ACCT 2010 was hard for me, but his teaching made 2020 much easier. His wit and the way he teaches makes going to an ACCT class bearable. Very helpful.

Professor Runyan is great! He does lots of examples in class, and goes around every other example or so and makes sure no one has questions. This can be really helpful if you are struggling but can get annoying if you aren't. Either way he is a great professor! Just go to class and review the quizzes for the tests and you should do well.

Professor Runyan is so funny! He is a GREAT teacher! I was scared bc of all of the bad reviews but honestly, if you take him, you will actually LEARN!! He cares about you and makes you do the work yourself while giving you guidelines. He works straight out of the book so getting good exam grades is effortless. TAKE HIM!!!

Those who are complaining probably didn't do the work. If you do homework, which he sometimes goes over, you will do well over the quizzes. Both are exactly like the exam. Idk what the other people are saying. Maybe they didn't pay attention or read the book. It's easy to do well if you prepare

ACCT 3110 is a tough class, regardless of the professor. But Runyan helped his students in the best way he can. He cares for your success. If in trouble, talk to him. He will listen and care for students who demonstrate effort. Make sure to read and do not procrastinate. Negative reviews about Runyan probably come from lazy students.

I really liked Dr. Runyan. He is really into working with a partner, but it's not a big deal. The test are like the quizzes and homework, study that and you'll pass. I really have no complaints. He can be over enthusiastic sometimes, but he keeps you interested in the lecture. Basically, to pass his class, just complete all the work and go to class

Dr. Runyan is a great professor, but ACCT 2010 is a "weed out" class. This class is hard and you will fail if you don't work at it. 5 tests, 1 final, 11 quizzes (one dropped), 11 HWs (one dropped). His practice quizzes are very helpful so pay attention. Buy the book and read it, otherwise you'll fail.

This guy is the best teacher you can have. Do not listen to other people about this guy, they probably never did his work. He is funny, pumped, he gives you the professional feedback only a few know. Overall I give an A+!

He's a great professor. His class and his lectures are enjoyable. Yes you have to talk to your neighbor in class, but he always answers questions if either of you have them. Yes the class can be difficult, if you don't read, do homework or participate in class. He's been doing this for a while and you can tell. Don't listen to negative reviews.

w/ his teaching style you HAVE to read the chapters yourself and it's best to do them before he goes over it. He mainly goes through examples but if you've read, they're helpful for understanding and tests. If you can do the ex.'s, and the hw questions you should do pretty well on the tests. Acct is not easy but he was a good professor that cares

1. read and take notes on text book before class 2. take notes on lectures 3. do your homework, its all online. if you do that you should do well in this course. Dr. Runyan is a greater lecturer and really makes himself available outside of class. A lot of homework and exams means you can do bad once or twice and still get a great overall grade.

He is a man of opportunities. He really knows his stuff , and is actually one of the best accounting professor in UNT that I know of. I LOVE him.

Look Intermediate Accounting is just hard, but Runyan isn't a bad choice. He's very knowledgeable about enthusiastic, and he does his best to teach a hard class. Tests are going to be really hard. Attendance isn't mandatory but you're gonna miss valuable stuff if you skip. Get ready to just study for a good week in advance of the test. Good luck.

He uses myaccountinglab for homework quizzes and tests. Awesome professor though, made this accounting class actually fun. He does have you do a lot of in class problems and talk to your neighbor about answers so don't be shy!

Pretty fun and different professor. He gets a little all over the place at times, can be hard to follow. He will call on you, have you talk to other classmates. If you like that you'll like his class. If you prefer to just go in, hear a lecture and move on to the next, his class might be a miss for you.

He is perfect for an accounting major who is passionate about accounting. He will go out of his way to help you. However, he is difficult. He will test you on the littlest of things. So if you are NOT PASSIONATE ABOUT ACCOUNTING don't bother taking him because you won't like him. He is the best professor I have ever met and I am ever grateful .

Absolutely the best prof I have ever had (including 2 yrs at BYU, 1 yr at Collin, and almost 2 yrs at UNT). Runyan truly cares about the success of his students. He will go out of his way to help you, especially if you communicate. STUDY THE BOOK. The material is TOUGH, but if you work hard and work with him, you will be successful in this class.

Tests are impossible. I'd study a week prior to them, and still make a C. Read the chapters before class, otherwise don't bother attending because you will be lost. He does care about his students though

I think students often confuse the difficulty of learning accounting with the skill level of the professor who is teaching it. Professor Runyan was incredible at teaching and was very enthusiastic about the material we learned! Wouldn't want to take ACCT 2020 with anyone else.

I really enjoyed Dr. Runyan, his lectures were enjoyable. Took him for maymester, lots of practice problems in class, usual pearson lab homework and quizzes, also did in class pooling with reef.

Dr Runyan is an excellent teacher and shows you the big picture - stuff you won't get from the book. Read up! If you don't read, be prepared to suffer thru the lecture. Reef online polling heavy. Uses humor to keep the class engaged. Moves very quickly, but lets you know whats emphasized on tests. Wouldn't want to take this class without him.

Horrible professor. Is not clear on the material and just practically reads of his power points. The test were very difficult .

I am an accounting major in part because Dr. Runyan's courses were the first that challenged me. I took 2010, 2020 and 3110 with Runyan. His classes are significantly harder than those taught by his fellow professors. Homework heavy. Ridiculously difficult exams (especially 3110). Worth the extra effort. Runyan will inspire you to be better!

I think most of the negative reviews are here due to the difficult nature of accounting- not Dr. Runyan's teaching. He explains things thoroughly but doesn't drag on. Going to class isn't enough to get an A, you will have to read too (only because class time is short). He also makes the class laugh at least 5 times a session. Highly recommend!

Dr. Runyan is the best professor I've ever had. He truly cares about students and takes the time to know all of his students. He knows what he is doing, makes class interesting/engaging, and always makes sure his students actually understand the material. He made me love accounting (after ACCT 2010).

Mr. Runyan is an amazing professor! He deeply cares about his students. He regularly checks up with us on our exam scores and life problems. Once I was kept up all night with a teething baby. He showed compassion and told me that it was okay if I left class to take a nap. He allows the students to interact which helps us retain information better.

This is by all means a challenging course, but Professor Runyan is a charismatic and devoted teacher focused on helping his students succeed. You'll have to work for it, but he gives great lectures and resources to make having a high grade possible.

Professor Runyan is by FAR the absolute best Accounting professor at UNT. There really is no comparison to him in the department. You can tell while in his class that he truly cares about his students, and goes to far lengths to simplify the material in class for the tests. He is a really quirky and fun professor, and his charisma on another level

I took professor Runyan's Monday 3 hour night class and our lectures were exhausting but fun. He always makes us laugh and cares about each of us. I was never super close with him because I am shy but every time I left the testing center he'd ask how I did and talk to me about the hard and easy parts of the test. He always asked how he could help.

Great Accounting professor, best I've ever had! Always available after a test to help you learn from any mistakes. He is the only reason why I know managerial accounting .

Prof Runyan is absolutely one of the most genuine and caring professors at UNT and is consistently checking in with each and every student. His office is always open and is always looking out for his students. Definitely is a course you have to work in but Runyan makes it to where the class is more enjoyable.

Mandatory attendance: physically AND mentally. Expect to work alongside your "neighbors" during his lectures (which are surprisingly always fun and engaging). Accounting classes are always difficult, but Dr. Runyan is an excellent professor and has an enthusiasm for education, accounting, and his students. Best professor I've had for any course.

For someone that hates Accounting, I enjoyed Dr. Runyan's class. Instead of doing busy/tedious work like balancing journal entries, we spent our time in class talking about accounting principles that are actually relevant to the real world (like assessing profitability of a product mix). Still hate accounting, but would take again.
