Makes his own rummors, does not explain course material well.
Tough class, tougher professor. His tests are difficult to study for, though there's multiple choice. If you read the book you can do well however, but who really reads nowadays? ^^;
Boring as hell
Very ineffective teaching style. It's easy to dose off in class. Answers questions with bare minimum answers and often with sarcasm. I feel this class is handicapping me for other accounting classes I have to take.
his lectures are confusing and pointless, and along with his sarcastic attitude, you learn little.
changes grading scale in the middle of the course. For ex. your grade A would change to lower grade. his grading scale sucks, teaching sucks and everthing else sucks...STAY AWAY FROM THIS AIR HEAD
Such a crappy professor. Not very helpful, doesn't know how to teach. Once he decided to have everyone post their finals online. Not only was this a pain in the ass, the moment you posted your final, your answers were open to everyone to plagurize.
He sucks, sucks, sucks, sucks, what more can I say other than "you've been warned, stay away!"
Lectures really arent needed. Study slides and read book (but know one does that anyways). Class is kind of hard, but every persons experience is different.
I just finished taking this class. There are 2 midterms and a final...all multiple choices. Hw counts for more than 1 midterm. Lecture slides and reading the chapter would help. I think Samuelson is cool and he tries to make the test not so hard for us. Not a bad class. Take it.
He sux. plain and simple
not only he's extremely boring but his tests are hard and the answers are confusing. DONT TAKE HIM UNLESS YOU HAVE TO.
This guy loves to make the wording the tests as annoying and long as possible. i doubt he even gives out any A. lecture is really boring, and tests are not easy at all. btw, he thinks himself as one of the badasses who are good at accounting. to sum it up, DONT take his class. unless u are looking something challenging.
this teacher sucks;no further explanation is needed. if you aren't good aren't an expert at accounting before his class then you will fail, warning: stay away from this insane teacher. doesn't matter who else you take but they must be better than this guy.
Took him in summer and the course was extremely easy. No journal entries and you don't have to do any of the reading to understand. Just do the homework problems and you'll ace the tests.
so not clear/boring/crappy old prof - failed during summer session & had to take it again - tests are all mc but r worded tricky & hard - highly not recommended
So heres the stuff i never took accounting 1, and i never knew what accounting was. As long as you pay attention to the homework and try you will get through, it ain't easy!
Samuelson is pretty cool. Im in his class right now. As long as you do the homework and go to discussion you'll be set. His test are pretty challenging. Its not a hard class but it aint easy either
worst teacher ever. i learned nothing. i hated sitting through lecture becuase it just frustrated me that he wasn't explaining anything. i feel sorry for you if you have sameulson.
your looking to fail, you won't pass cause you don't know jack!! you can try in this class but you have better luck not taking it =(
I wouldn't say he is hard or easy. The accounting material and the book is a bit difficult to get through in my opinion. The test is pretty decent if you know everything clearly but if not - you'll probably do really bad. You either have to know it really well or your grade will suffer.
people say "do the homework," and you'll do well on the test. WRONG. each homework question is corrected -- they're like freakin quizzes. I recommend getting the answer manual. Tests are pretty hard...
HARD HARD HARD HARD- go to every class, go to every lecture, if one person Aces the test you don't get a curve.
Simple, go to lectures learn the material and youll be able to do the hw, if ur able to do the hw then the tests are easy
All these people are dumbass. Go to class and learn the material. The tests are so easy if you just study. I got 80 out of 80 and 114 out of 120 on the midterm and final respectively. Just go to lecture
This class is freakin HARD. Not because of the professor but just because of the material. There is hope though - I didn't learn 1 thing about the account process but I memorized all the definitions and understood what accounting was, not how to do it. And I got a B+ in the class. He also curves a lot.
This professor will not teach you much. In lecture he goes of the subject and talks about his own life stories. So theres not even a point in going to lecture. I recommend u dont take it with samuelson
This guy is ok. The class it self is hard. He will help you and he is clear but the material is kinda tricky. Go to lecture. Discussion didn't help because of a bad Ta. HW is kinda tough and took awhile to do. Pay attention to lecture...DRINK A POWER DRINK because I felt like sleeping through some of his lecture. Do problems from the book to study.
I actually like him as an instructor. Well, at least he doesn't have an accent problem. The HW is indeed hard, but the midterm and finals are pretty managable. I know the grading scale is a little mean, but there's a Chinese saying- "A tough master will produce good students".
I took him for both classes, despite many of these ratings, I think he is a good professor. The HW is hard but as long as you show you attempted the work you get credit. 2 midterms, drops the lowest. It's a hard subject if you don't get it but he does have office hours to help and so does his TA's. I would recommend him.
Good teacher but my god does he make the test hard. The subject is all about procedure and he'll almost all of it fair game. I've compared this final with accounting finals from other UC campuses and this one is much harder. I reccomend taking it at a Jc.
The subject of accounting is hard, but Samuelson makes a good attempt at making it comprehendable. Lots of homework, but the work will allow you to understand accounting more. Going or not going to lecture won't make such a big difference. Going = sleep in class, not going = sleep on bed. notes are on ilearn, and that's how i knew how to do hw.
I learned a lot from him, he is a bit quirky and weird sometimes, but very knowledgeable. I don't think I would have done well at all if the TA's weren't easy graders with the h/w and the project. I'd take him again because I know I'll learn something when the quarter is over. If you had Blay for 20a you were spoiled, but easiness isn't reality.
this guy is the worst professor i have ever had the ucr. his lectures make hardly any sense at all, his concern for students is zero, he even assigned homework when there weren't even books at the bookstore! he's terrible. do yourself a favor and get anyone BUT him. wait a quarter or something but don't get him.
I can honestly say I hate this professor. He’s a jerk. I think its about time for him to retire his old school military way of teaching is out dated. I had something happen where I missed some classes but I wasn’t allowed to make up work. So if you take his class pray that no one dies, because he might let you make up hwk but you will be marked do
Not the best teacher. You can tell he knows what he is talking about but he is not very good at teaching what he knows. Tests are NOT easy. Do a lot of study and spend a lot of time on the homework, they are the key to save your grades if you mess up in lectures.
BSAD 20B class was boring, but he does class/hw Qs after lecture, which is helpful. Need to turn in hw every lecture. Really try to do all the hw and dig into the sample tests then you'll be fine. Final project was confusing, but turned out to be ok.
Very helpful professor! He is old-fashioned, but he is not hard at all! He basically outlines the midterm out for you! The people that complain are simply do not try at all. I study about 30 minutes to 1 hour a week and I got an A-.
Easy But Boring, If you do all the homework and attend class for the quizzes you'll do fine!!he literally gives you the midterm so study that!
He takes at least a week to respond emails. He is very unhelpful, and is not a man of his words. He is not accountable for everything he says. For instance, he promised extra credit, but that "extra credit" automatically turned into homework assignments at the end of the quarter. Bottom line is, he is not an accountable person.
yes, homework and final saved me. If you not a hardworking one, besure to do the homework, they help a lot to bring up your grade. Final is the combination of 2 other midterms+few new questions so besure the memorize the midterm coz he doesnt even change the numbers. Lectures were boring, and almost everybody was doing something else
Almost didnt learn anything in this class, all I heard was him mumbling along could make me fall asleep right away. Fortunately, my TA was nice. Homework solution was posted online, even if you dont know how to do it, just copy everything down to earn some points. Final is 1st and 2nd midterm combined, even numbers and wordings are all the same. J
Professor was a little dry at times, but the interesting tidbits are always fun to listen to. His grading scale is far above what most professor do and is very fair since it grade based on student to student performance rather then just what the professor expects of the class. His teaching methods are rather standard. TA's are excellent and helpful
His Tests and homework arent exactly a walk in the park but they are easily doable. if your looking for an EASY A this is NOT the class. your gonna have to work at it. He teaches well though youll leave with a better understanding. Tests are east if you know the material
homework can be hard, but if you get help you won't have much of a problem... test are hard, but what he teaches are on the test ..funny at some times.. but a very fair professor ....great teacher
Worst teacher i have ever had in my life. He makes accounting the hardest class in the world. His averages for his midterms were both F's and his hw is not a walk in the park. Avoid him if possible.
A bit hard at first but if you genuinely know the material you'll be fine. Records the highest of two midterms and uses that for your grades. Averages on midterms were F's but he curves to two highest scores so the average was more of a C/C-. TA's graded pretty easily. Just study alot and it's an easy B/A-. You don't study= nose dive into an F.
Professor was 2 hours late to final exam. Only gave his students an hour to finish the whole final. Lied and told everyone that they would be given extra time and then picked up the finals an hour later. Bunch of people didn't even finish and left part of the test blank. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Teacher was 2 hours late coming into the final. The TA's tried to keep peace by calling him and letting us know the status. But that didn't do much after 30 minutes / 1 hour / 2 hours. We had less than a Hour to do 60 questions. Yeah thats about it.
This teacher was absolutely horrible. He messed up with every test he ever gave. The first one he corrected it wrong and on the final he showed up two hours late so we only had an hour to take the test. The class average was so low that getting a fifty percent on the test was about at curve. This class is hella curved so even if you feel like you a
The professor is highly indifferent towards us, and irresponsible in his exam distribution. His attitude towards teaching is one that made me feel as if he was just there to babel information, and get his day over with. The final exam distribution was horrible. He was 2 hours late but forced us to take the exam in 60 minutes. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS
Bad professor. Late 2 hours to final and his justification for grading was that since everybody have only an hour, he wouldn't really change the curving on it. Basically people who studied and people who didn't were on equal grounds because it was a guessing game to beat the clock. Got a 89.9% and wouldn't budge at all so ended up with a B. Too bad
Bad professor. Late 2 hours to final and his justification for grading was that since everybody have only an hour, he wouldn't really change the curving on it. Basically people who studied and people who didn't were on equal grounds because it was a guessing game to beat the clock. Too bad there is only 1 proff to teach bus20 at a time.
Samuelson knows his stuff but the material is hard so you have to make sure you study the material consistently! Do his homework! His midterms are tricky, but highest midterm grade is taken and lowest one is dropped. The final was almost exactly like his second midterm, the numbers were just inverted around!
class is pretty hard. but if you study it's not impossible. the curve is really high. i didn't really study and had a B+ going into the final but someone got a perfect score so everyone's grade dropped. mine dropped 10%
I'd say if you get him, drop the class. But then again, he's the only prof teaching bus20...He gaves sample tests which are nothing like the midterm nor the final. However, the TA's were great. They were really helpful in terms of homeworks and the project. This professor is probably the worst one in teaching the materials as well as giving tests!
Bad professor. Does not know how to teach the materials. First midterm half of the class got Fs...so that pretty much sums it up.
tough class and tough tests BUT homework is very easy and homework counts A BIG portion of grade. Just study, do all his homework and you're fine. He is a good professor but somewhat intimidating.
Class is all accounting material. Midterm is hard, everyone fails it. Best advice is to get a 100% on hw(you can check the answers) and get an A on the project (easy). Final is hard, everyone fails that too, but there should be a curve. You should be able to at least pass.
I was pretty scared coming into this class because of the bad reviews Samuelson got but surprsingly, he's not that bad at all. His lectures were pretty clear because he explained everything & did many examples on the overhead. I didn't even need to go to disc. HW is easy, midterm is alright, but the final is hard so make sure you study hard.
Very tough class! midterm is ok but final is kind of hard with 90 MC. The avg. of the midterm was 60%. but hw and the project really help you a lot to improve your grade, so make sure to do good on those.
i would say run if you get this professor, but again he is the only professor teaching bus20. the average for both exams are Fs. The Homework and project are grade boosters so make sure you do them. Final is pretty hard because 75% of the questions are not calculation . Even though i got Cs on both exams, i still ended up with an A- after the curve
Lecture was pretty boring. I'd say most of the information became clear only after reading the book extensively and talking to the TAs. Tests weren't TOO hard, just refer to the study guide and the practice test and you'll be set for the exams. The material can be confusing, but there's a generous curve.
Class is tough but it is definitely possible to do well. If you actually apply yourself and go to class, getting an A is perfectly possible.
If you don't keep up you get totally lost. I also had a horrible TA that was pretty much useless. To me, you basically have to teach yourself in this class because the lectures are boring as hell. Take this class with a friend or someone you know; share cost of the book and always study constantly and you'll pass. I failed. lol. retaking next yr.
Prof Samuelson explained everything in detail, which is why his lecs are so boring. But you have to keep up w/him to make sure you get all the concepts. Don't expect an easy A from not going to class & just reading the book because it's not self-explanatory. I liked this class because he obviously knows his stuff. The downside is he's monotone
A Republican professor exactly knows about business and accounting. Don't blame this smart professor just because you played with iPhone in his lecture and got bad grades. He gave us exams from last quarter as study guide; only 2% of profs do that. Accounting in Bus 20 is basic; most UCR SoBA students fail at it(LOL) Got an A as history student.
I guess it would be beneficial to let everyone that isn't a history major know that bus20 is a pain in the butt. Samuelson makes it look really easy, but it's not (not all of us can be geniuses.) The hw is tedious and the project takes alot of effort. But I really like how he was the 1st prof that seemed to actually know what he was teaching.
A smart conservative men that knows his stuff. It was a breath of fresh air taking this professor, compared to the 95% of the far left commies, that call themselves educators at UCR.
This class has been said to be as difficult as intermediate accounting. Samuelson doesn't take much consideration into helping his students actually understand the material, but more so getting the material over with. Cengage (h/w site) is full of glitches & he still insists on using it. The book and office hours help more than going to lecture.
He knows his subject and is very knowledgeable about it. H/W is an easy A, counts as much as the Midterm.
He's very knowledgeable about the subject, but lectures are dry and attendance is mandatory. First midterm is a straight spreadsheet, final is based more on theory and calculations. Nice man, just boring at times, but he tries to make a few jokes here and there. He'd be better as an intermediate professor, as he assumes you know Acc. already.
HARD class. Go to lecture, there are clicker questions. HW and project are easy points, so do well on those. Midterm was ok. Final was brutal. Thanks to this class, I now have no interest of becoming an accountant.
great teacher but the class is boring. as long as you read and work on the homework you will be fine. plus he does curves which helped me out a lot.
One of the smartest professors i have ever had the pleasure of taking. Its good to know that we still have people like this teaching, and after all the far left/marxists I had to endure over the past couple of years, I really enjoyed this class.
Professor Sameulson is very nice and extremely helpful during his office hours. He gives a big curve depends on the average of the classes. HW is 1/3 of your grade
Lectures were boring as hell. He talks slow and pauses randomly. Uses clickers. Questions are really stupid... His midterm was so hard, barely had enough time to finish. If you get a good TA then you'll learn more, if you don't then you'll just have to read on your own.
Lecture was extremely boring, I stopped going, although their are random clicker questions throughout the quarter. One midterm (the average was 69%), one Financial Analysis Project, and a Final. Also mandatory homework due weekly. This class was honestly not that difficult. Oh and get Steven Jew as your Ta, because he is amazing!
nice professor and very helpful during office hours. Lecture was boring though and notes are confusing. Uses clicker questions to make students go to lecture. midterm was hard and the average my quarter was a D. Good luck and do the reading because if you dont get a get a good TA you essentially teach yourself.
all we care about is how much this class is curved. more than 10%. i had an 84 raw score and ended up with an A, which is 94% and up. midterm isnt as hard as people say. i got a 96. just study? final is definitely as hard as people say. study enough to get above average. Hw, project, and clicker are easy A...so just do it!
Tough intro class. 1 midterm, 1 project, and 1 final. Clicker questions in lectures, which are really boring. Online homework due every week. Midterm is okay (blank spreadsheet), project is easy as long as you follow directions, and final is really tough, avg was a 63/140. Need to study a lot!!!
He is really picky with grading and the TAs don't help much. Discussions are pretty useless since they stray from materials taught in class and they have really strong accents that make it difficult to understand. START on the project early!! It'll kill you otherwise.
DO THE PROJECT EARLY! IT TOOK ME LIKE A TOTAL 20 HOURS TO DO IT. Because everyone is trying to do the project last minute, the library servers get backed up (making it impossible to get work done), I almost got an A on the first midterm.. but id worry about the project.
The professor's lecture is very clear and useful. Those who said bad words must didn't pay enough attention to class and study. Follow his instructions and make sure you did and understood all the homework and materials, you won't have trouble to pass it.
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken. He goes off on tangents but he knows what he is talking about. Attendance is mandatory bc of clickers, must buy hw code to do the hw each week. Project is tedious but the TA's grade very easy. No one does well on final. Midterm is ok. Curves the overall class at the end. It's possible to pass
Straightforward material made hard by extremely difficult final and project. He teaches fine. But he is ridiculous for not letting us use a simple calculator in an accounting balance sheet for midterm and final. Wake up Samuelson! Computers do the counting for accountants nowadays. The accountants only need be practical and able to apply knowledge
I am iffy about this professor. He is smart, I'll give him that. But at the time when I took the course, I was not interested at all. Professor, as far as I remember, curves but needs to do better job to gain attention of students. BUS 20 isn't hard but to get interested in Accounting is hard especially taking a course from Samuelson.
do online hw, midterms 1&2 are okay but the final really brings ur grade down lecture isnt great but he gives attendance points very boring lectures that arent helpful he goes on tangents all the time it was annoying
Not a very good professor. Doesn't really teach much in class. Project is pretty easy, easy A if you do it well. Midterm and final are both hard.
Terrible lecturer. Uninteresting and honestly made me dread life having this class. TA's ARE OF NO HELP OR USE. He teaches stuff and tests you on completely different subjects. Final is MC, hard. Apparently everyone fails. he does curve the class though. Either way, extremely hard intro class, necessary unfortunately.
This professor hates his students and can be sarcastic and rude when you ask him things like "will the test be curved". He forgot that we, the students, pay tuition (or taxes) which in turn is his salary. His lectures are not helpful in clarifying things and his TAs do not speak english. I'm sure he is not a bad person, but he is a bad teacher.
Despite what many students said, Samuelson is really fair and the class is more than doable. He's definitely lightened up on the course load by taking out the project. The midterm is basically an easy A if you study, and the final although hard is also doable. Just don't bum this class, read, study, do hw, get help, and you'll be ok.
Professor Samuelson really needs to change his teaching style. His lectures are too boring, and he always gives us hard homework to do.
He IS a good teacher despite the other reviews. This class was fairly easy up to the final. It is very doable if you just do what you're supposed to, read, go to class, and study. This class is not hard, if you think its hard then you are not going to class or studying.
I took Bus 20 with him and despite other reviews, his class was easy. I got my first 100 on a midterm and felt like I understood the material. If you decide to skip class and not pay attention, you will probably fail this class. I will admit, the project was difficult but VERY doable if you start early. Overall, a good class.
His grading is straight forward. If you do well on every other assignment and not so well on the final, as it is hard (he covers a lot of the material that is on the exam on the last few weeks, VERY quickly) you can still get an A in the class. The project is not hard, just listen to his instruction and the midterm and is very straight forward!
Pretty boring lectures, only showed up because of tophat questions (which you can do from home). Idk how but I had an A average in hw, B on midterm, D+ in top hat, C in quizzes, A+ on project, and F on final and I still got an A- in the class. Honestly if you get below a B you have to have not been trying at all.
Heres the whole class layout. Discussion attendance, midterm, project, and hw is a guaranteed 90-100%. The final though, lucky to get a 30%. TAs dont even read the project and the midterm is all memorizing tables. Professor will make you sleep though, so bring a pillow
Can't understand what Professor was teaching during the lectures, he wasn't good at using computer and TopHat. I always have to spend 2 or more hours on homework because I need to learn everything again from the textbook. Mid-term isn't what he actually described to the class, which many of us failed and my TA provided a fake email on the Syllabus
Want to take Business 20 with Samuelson? THINK TWICE ABOUT! It is definitely one of the hardest GE course I have EVER taken in my college career. He admitted after midterm that the stuff that he mentions in class and hw he assigns WILL NOT be tested on both midterm and final. MAKE SURE TO GO TO DISCUSSION! YOU WILL BENEFIT IT!
I agree with many, Samuelson is very boring, rude and out of touch with what the class wants. The Homework taught me more than his lectures. Thankfully he got rid of the project that many hate, and he gives points for attendance. Midterm was difficult but I was able to get an A. FINAL VERDICT: Stay Away if you're not going to give 110%
Honestly, BRUCE is fair in grading. The class is straightforward but the material is hard. Make sure you do the homework as it counts for a lot of the grade. Downside is you will most likely have to learn everything on your own as the lectures are really boring and you have to go to them for tophat points. Midterm and Final are really hard.
My biggest regret was not taking this class at a community college for credit. He doesn't care about his students & he does not teach. Hard to talk get in touch with. Sometimes, he would teach the material after the hw was due. If you have to curve your class so that 85% of the students pass, YOU'RE the one that's doing something wrong, professor.
TBH get an A on the midterm and you'll get an A in the class even if you fail the final (assuming you try a decent amount for the rest of the assignments). Trust: listening to his lectures and writing down his notes won't help you. Spend time reading the textbook. Lots of self-teaching must be done, but worth when you get the A!
Halfway through the quarter and I'm now realizing how bad of a teacher he is. He's really old school(which is fine), but doesn't post notes online and doesn't really understand how technology works. Outdated and needs to retire asap. Midterm is pretty hard but you should get 100% on the hw's as he gives 3 attempts.
Very good professor. He gives you an exact replica of what will be on the midterm so with studying it is passable. He tries to help his students a lot and does make you work for an A, but failing this class is honestly pretty difficult since he does give you a lot of similar material for exams. Overall a good professor just study what he gives you.
I've been raising my hand for the past 10 mins. he looks at me and just ignores me. He does not teach properly. he is not interesting, I hate coming to this class. he does not explain the questions he gives.
He doesnt care about the students sitting anywhere except the first three rows. I was sitting in the 6th row, I raised my hand for a good 15 mins, he looked at me and ignored me, finally I gave up and did not ask him the question. He does not explain the questions he gives in class or for to hat. He literally just teaches 10% and HW is on 100%.
This guy does not teach at all!! I am sitting here trying to study for the midterm and it looks completely different from what he does in class. On top of that he doesn't give out the answer sheet until 2 nights before. Thanks Samuelson! If you haven't taken accounting before and this is your first accounting class, good luck!
Professor has a problem with hearing so that you have to shout out to ask him a question. His ability to explain things is so poor. Therefore you better to study online rather than going to classes.
The professor is nice and amusing and if you join his class late is willing to extend the date for hw and quizzes. But, he rambles and always has tech errors. Uses tophat! I learned everything from my discussions and hw! The midterm is exactly like the practice but the final was difficult and had errors. I attended every class but still failed
Don't skip class. Put full effort into midterm and project. Do all the homework which aren't difficult at all and top hat is easy points as well. The final is difficult but he likes to recycle SOME questions from previous papers.
He expects way too much out of you for an introductory class. The practice exam was way easier than the midterm. Practice exam had single digits and Midterm had numbers in the 10,000s and 20,000s. Lectures are extremely boring and most of the learning came from TAs. This professor does not know how to teach well. Most difficult class ever.
The material itself is easy but the professor makes it so much harder than it has to be. Hes the most boring man ever. His pratice midterm was easy but the real midterm was 10x harder. If more than 1/2 the class fails, then his teaching methods are clearly the problem. I learned everything from the TA & reading the book myself.
As an accounting major he was not a great experience. Lectures consist of him rambling about a vaguely related subject for half of class before getting into the material. Explanations were very poor/unclear. I don't feel like I learned anything, most of what I know was from my first accting professor. He curves the class but don't rely on it.
Does not teach at all. The things you learn won't appear on the final. The textbooks doesn't even help at all too. Only about 20 kids passed the final with an A and the rest either in the C or F range. That should tell him about half of the class did not understand the material. Utterly destroyed my grade. Went from a A- to C. Don't take him!
Samuelson is a solid dude, however teaches nothing. This class is entirely self taught and you got to be willing to put in the effort. The mid-term is crucial for scoring highly on and its honestly not that hard with proper preparation. Homework is extremely easy. Final is curved heavily, however you should still score as high as you can.
Midterm was easy as he tells you what is going to be on it. Final was challenging however he did heavily curve it and allow a cheat sheet. You will probably have to read the book as there is a lot to remember, but Samuelson did help in explaining the more complicated parts of the course. Material wasn't too bad you just have to pay attention!
Truly a great professor. Do the readings. Pay attention in class. Ask questions. Attend office hours. His exams are not the easiest, but if you put in the effort, understand the homework and study, you will be fine.
Hands down the best accounting professor I had at UCR. Yes, his exams are not easy, but if you study a lot, put in the effort, and attend office hours, you will be okay. If you want a good grade, do not skip any of his classes and ask questions.
Get ready to teach yourself everything. Reading the textbook and doing well on the midterm are key to doing well in this class. The final felt like it was in a different language. The lectures are useless, the only time I learned something was from discussion and TA's.
Prof Samuelson is weird and goofy but he's a nice guy. His teaching style is wack and he is NOT good at teaching big classes like Bus 20 but he fine when you're in a smaller class or at OH. He has mad irl experience and knows what he's talking about even if he's kinda hard to listen to. Still one of the better accounting profs at UCR in my opinion.
Really chill, fun guy but his lectures are 70% filler and he does a bad job of explaining the basic concepts which makes everything else very confusing. Homework can be very hard and tedious and the midterm and final are very hard. He does curve though.
Horrible Professor. Tough grading. Horrible explaining.
Do NOT take him. His class was useless, I got to self study all the materials. Try to get more points on homework, it will make you easier to pass.
I took accounting in high school, which made my life much easier. Easy midterm hard final if you don't know the concept from homework, but if you do practice final, you should be fine. Go to discussion cuz TA ll teach Homework. Get as many homework points as possible! Huge curve, he curves based on top 5 or 8 students. Curved 38 pts for my class.
Basically a self taught class b/c lectures are so useless that attendance dies off after 2nd week. Quizzes in discussion, midterm (gives you a practice one/retakes), homework (tedious), & final (which most fail). He usually curves at the end, but I suggest completing hw 100%, do decent on quizzes/midterm & youll be fine if you do bad on the final.
Lectures can be a bit boring. Professor is nice but material is not the easiest. Weekly homework assignments, pop quizzes in discussion, one midterm and final. Definitely have to do extra studying if you want to pass the class.
A third of your grade is homework, a third is the final, then there is 6 pop quizzes in discussion (takes best 5 out of 6) and a midterm that makes up the last third. Midterm is exactly like practice midterm, class is curved based on top performers averaged out. Final is very hard, even with cheat sheet (class average 50%).
It is quite a hard course and certainly one that you cannot mess around in. Heavily self-taught work and recommend spending extra time in learning the material for the midterm and final. Professor is a bit slow in class and is not the nicest with students but the course itself is hard and a load of material.
the lectures are little help for the exams. going to SI is prolly going to be your best shot at passing and understanding material since he doesn't explain very well. you have to teach yourself a lot. The midterm avg was around 70% and the final was 50%. He curved by around 10%.
Intro to Accounting. Will be a difficult class if you do not study for the tests. Lots of memorization needed as you will need to write the four financial statements from scratch for the final and midterm. Lectures can be boring but they are organized and rely on slides, discussions have pop quizzes. Will need to buy a $110 book for homework.
Make sure to do all the assignments and discussion worksheets given. The Midterm is a lot like the practice final. Lectures are pretty useless, so your better off self studying or going to office hours.
Notthathard of a class. Go to lecture to understand the material better. Practicing the problems in the hw and textbook is your best bet to getting a good grade. The midterm is very easy, and is similar to the practice one he gives. The final is hard and the cheat sheet he allows will be useless, but you can still score high if you get the concepts.
Hw was $150. The first couple of lectures were useful but after they don't really teach you much. I agree with him about how you learn accounting by doing. The exams are difficult so prepare and put effort into the class. Don't lose any points on hw because they matter & help when you score low on exams. We had a discord and it really helped.
Dr. Samuelson is a great professor with ample experience in professional work. Even though the professor switched after a few weeks into the quarter but we sure miss his wisdom in the class. His lectures are real-life related and will be very helpful in the long run. Definitely suggest taking his class if you are looking into accounting as career.
Professor Samuelson's class is a challenge, but worth it if you put in the work. Lectures can be dry, so self-study and using resources like unstuck AI are key. Engage with the material and you'll walk away with valuable skills.
