Great Instructor!! Big help if you dont understand what is happening in class. All around great guy. I would recommend taking him over Nrylon any day!! Material is not very easy, but he will make it seem that way some how.

Good teacher, he gives notes on PowerPoint and posts them on BB, so you don't really have to do anything in class. You need to go to class because he gives pop quizzes, which he basically gives you the answer to. Also gives a big extra credit assignment.

Really good sense of humor. He knows that the students don't feel like being there. He resembles Peter Griffin off of Family Guy somewhat.

He is the best choice out of the people who teach earth science. he is fair, the test is from the power point slides he gives you to print out. However he has a weird grading scale. Overall go to class and he is easy B,or an A with a little hard work.

Great teacher! Gives study guides for tests, and has Q & A the class before the test. Everything is in PowerPoint presentations, which makes it easier to find answers. If you go to class, take some notes, you will do well in his class.

Mr.Sherman is great at trying to interest you in a topic that many students aren't interested in.He is SO willing to help,especially when you take him for lab. I've spent so much time at the poor man's desk pestering him.He kills too many trees with his powerpoints, but you have EVERYTHING you need to know right there and his study guides...8)

Bruce is the bomb! He's funny, and he knows his stuff. He does everything on PowerPoint, so just print out the handout slides before you come to class so you can follow along. He tries his best to interest you in the subject. His tests aren't bad. He makes a study guide, too. There are even extra credit quizzes online. Take this guy! :)

Sherman is great. He gives you the lecture notes which you can print and bring to class. NO LAPTOPS! The week before the test he loads extra credit quizzes to do, just do them. It's not for accuracy, just to see if it's done! Then before the test he has a review session which you can ask him all of the questions on the test, he gives them. TAKE HIM

Easy teacher. Gives study guide for tests and has a study review class. Can ask questions and he will give answers to study guide. Gives one-question bonus quizzes for people who come to class (worth 10 pts each)-normally they are at the very beginning of class. Also gives online quizzes for bonus pts. Not hard at all. Had to write paper though.

Reading some of the "difficult" comments. . thats insane!!! This guys is extremely gracious. Good personality. He gives you the lecture notes, study guides, EASY quizes, extra credit quizes, and the class is not boring. He understands his class is not the only class you have. I havent even finished his class yet and can still say he's great.

excellent teacher. explains everything for a child to comprehend. the only bad thing is the grades are weighted so the "A" is a bit harder to achieve, but possible. is should have a 95% but instead I have a 90.2. Good luck

This man is extremely helpful and fair. Last semester he even offered an alternative grading system, and we got the best grade out of the 2-so I'm not sure I understand the complaints about that. He's interesting and has a great sense of humor. It's obvious that he really cares about his students. A LOT of information, but that's the class, not him

Mr. Sherman is a good teacher and is really amusing as well. Lots of people whine saying he is hard- he's not. He gives quizzes randomly when attendance is low, so go to class. You can earn 250 points for showing up every day and doing this easy project. Get an 80 acg on the tests and show up every day and you will make an A. EASY.

Very funny, easygoing guy. His class can be hard but its not because of him. Its just a lot of material. He offers a lot of opportunity to make up points. There are a lot of quizzes. One negative- we had to write a short paper, which was easy, but he requires you to go and get it reviewed at the SLU Writing Center, which I thought unnecessary.

This class has a lot of material which you need to learn. He's really funny,but his class is still boring. I came out with a B.

This professor is not a hard teacher...but his class is not the "easy a" that I was told Earth Science would be. There is so much material on each test that is overwhelming. The quizzes DO help, however, they also really hurt if you have to miss a day. I would suggest only taking this class if you're really interested in the subject material.

Sherman is a great guy. His class is very laid back and not very difficult at all. He gives a ton of bonus opportunities and the tests are very straight forward. The subject matter is pretty boring at times, but he tries to keep you interesting. I definitely recommend him.

Very nice but boring class. His test are hard but if you come to class you should do well. I am taking him for EASC 101 this semester.

He's a decent teacher, but he lacks enthusiasm. The subject of the class was very interesting, but his attitude kinda soured it. He'll help if you ask and he sounds a bit more interested when you show that you're interested.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE TEACHERS!!! I'm not big on science but I enjoy his class. He makes it very interesting and he is laid back. Uses powerpoint slide and if take notes and study extra credit quizzes you will do great on tests. I've gotten 90s on my tests so far. Gives pop quizzes in class but he basically gives the answers. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Good teacher, tries to crack jokes that are kinda funny. Will make all your "expensive jewelry " seem worthless. Pretty funny and very laid back dude.

He's pretty funny and tries to keep class interesting and worth your while. His tests are not easy but their not really that hard either.

Very interested in what he is teaching. Gives you everything you need for test. Just make sure you actually attend class for the pop quizzes and you will do just fine! Any class is easy if you put some effort in to actually learning some of the material. Glad I took this class with Bruce.

He's Very interesting Love his POP Quizzes(usually one question and super simple) if you study even moderately youll do ok. posts study guides and ppt on blackboard tests are moderatly dfficult , but its science...

I did not like him. He teaches the course like its the most boring thing ever, and never looks at the students. Tries to make jokes, but really, they're just awkward. Makes everything seem simple, then the test requires a totally solid knowledge of the subject that you can't get from him.

He gives bonus quizzes. Do all of them. Don't miss class because if he gives a pop quiz it'll hurt your grade bad but they're easy ten points. He gives you the answer. He's really funny but his tests are very hard. They're concept based and not factual based. You have to understand it. It's not just memorization.

This guy is awesome!! I took him for 101 and couldn't wait to take him for 102. He has a very sarcastic sense of humor which makes the class interesting. If you go to class and take notes then you should have no problem passing! I hate science and still managed to pass his class with a B+ ! 100% recommend to EVERYONE!!

Best earth science teacher! He makes tons of jokes! Yes his tests are not exactly easy A material and he does expect you do understand the material...but hey that's college haha! If you pay attention and attend class you can't fail. Unless you really just don't care!

Fyi the guy that commented that pop quizzes are given failed to mention that it's one question he asks you to write on a piece of paper and he's giving the answer while he's still lecturing. The quizzes are to weed out the idiots who decide not to come to class. That's the only way to miss the answer on the quiz is not show up

Super easy class. Sherman is interesting and tries to make jokes(which can be pretty funny). There is 16 points worth in bonus. Test questions come from the bonus quizzes. There are pop quizzes, that he gives the answers to. You only fail this class if you don't try.

Sherman is a great and very understanding guy. Gives bonus out for every test and in class quizzes are great grade booster. His test are hard but if you study the online quizzes you will do great. I finished with an A with minimal effort. GREAT TEACHER MUST TAKE FOR ESSC

Awesome teacher, knows this is non-majors and teaches accordingly. Straight powerpoint lecture with pop quizzes (which he gives you the answers to), plus extra credit quizzes online you get full points just for attempting. Very entertaining lecturer.

He gives random clicker quizzes that he gives you the answers to so attendance is a must. He doesn't make you focus on the intricate details. He knows you're there to fill your science class requirements, and not for your major. I am a graduating senior taking geology. Mr. Sherman makes an effort with his lectures. The material is very dry and he does crack some good jokes occasionally. He gives 10 pop quizzes but they are simple because he gives the answers, you just need to go to class. 4 tests and they can be a little tricky but he is willing to help.

The test are difficult and you must study! However, there are plenty of opportunities for extra credit and he is amazing at answering emails quickly.

He gives the notes in PowerPoint, all you have to do is fill in the blanks. Study guides are made for every test and each section has EC ops. Study well using the notes, the guide, and textbook for anything unclear, and you should be fine. Try to be interested in lectures to understand the concepts.

Mr. Sherman isn't that bad of a teacher. Just go to class, do the extra credit, and at least listen to what he's saying. He gives pop quizzes throughout the semester, but if you're in that class, there is NO way you won't pass it. It's not that bad of a class, just a boring content area.

He is a good teacher but a little odd. The subject is boring so there is only so much he can do. His notes are fill in the blank, there are 4 test, 10 pop quizzes, and about 15 online extra credit quizzes.

10 labs total worth 15pts each and a midterm and a final worth 100pts each. He goes over the instructions on how to do the lab in class and practically gives you the answers. Lab usually lasts about 30-45 minutes.

These comments on Mr. Sherman are a little harsh and are most likely from students who didn't study. The class consists of A LOT of material, but if you study, you'll be fine! You have to work for your grade, but it is possible to do well. I studied and ended the class with an A. He's very enthusiastic about the course which makes it interesting.

Easy class just take the questions from the extra credit quizzes and study guide to study for the test. He has 10 pop quizzes during the semester that are one question each and he gives you the answer so its an easy 100 points. Hes kinda funny, but honestly you dont have to pay attention in lecture to pass.

No homework. You have to pay attention and study, but if you study hard youll be fine. Ive heard 102 is easier (101-earth science, 102-space science)

Sherman is like if dad jokes was a professor if that makes sense. Super corny jokes, easy class to pass, doesnt care if you attend. He was a good professor and understands that students have a ton of stuff to do for all their other classes too. Gives you notes to prints. Would take again.

Mr. Sherman is an absolute legend. His lectures contain info on rocks, which really isn't interesting, but he throws in some comedy to keep you interested. Tests are hard but make a point to talk to him one on one and he can give you some really good tips on passing with a decent grade.

Bruce Sherman is an awesome guy. I have taken two semesters so far and he is by far my favorite teacher. Sure, Earth and Space science isn't very interesting if you aren't somebody who likes science. Mr. Sherman tries hard to make the lectures interesting. he makes a lot of jokes. Highly recommend. Just beware of the participation based quizzes.

I loved this class, the material covered can be a little hard to study for, but if you come to class everyday and make sure to pay attention, you can pretty much pass. He provides extra credit quizzes online in case you bomb a test. Did I mention he has so many dad jokes up his sleeve?

His humor makes the lectures bearable. It could be a lot worse. You do have to put forth effort to make an A. I don't recommend using quizlets, I studied his notes and Extra Credit Quizzes and did fine on the tests. But like I said, you really have to dedicate time to study for this class.

His lectures that he does in class are all online. He does extra credit for the class too so make sure you do that and dont miss out bc it does help you. You have to study for his test bc they arent easy. If you have questions or confused about something ASK HIM directly and he will HELP YOU

Loved this man. He is very passionate about his subject. I took this the semester that everything abruptly went online due to COVID and so I partially took it in person and online. They both weren't hard, everything thats going to be on the exam is on his powerpoints. So just study that and it should be an easy class. He was also pretty funny.

Bruce is the personification of "dad humor", which I love. He is a genuinely nice guy and if you watch his PowerPoint videos, you'll do fine. The textbook is not needed in this class whatsoever and I recommend not getting it as I haven't used mine once. I recommend him 100%.

I absolutely loved him. He is a very funny person. There are 10 pop quizzes, but they are one question, and he gives you the answer to each of them so it's practically impossible to get them wrong, unless you are just stupid and not paying attention when he gives you the answer which happened countless times in my class. HIGHLY SUGGEST HIM!!!

He was a really funny, great teacher, and I enjoyed listening to his lectures. Despite this, his exams are pretty difficult. For me, he would give a "study guide" on what would be on the exam, and then come exam, half the questions were not on the study guide. I would take him again, but definitely would be more prepared.

His tests always had questions that we didn't necessarily talk about sometimes and even though he doesn't care about attendance, he would put questions on the test that you would only know if you were physically in class. He does have the video lectures online though. I would take him again though.

This class was an okay class. His voice is very monotone making it hard to actually pay attention. He gives pop quizzes that he just gives you the answer to and has extra credit for all his exams. His exams are pretty easy/hard. If you study the info you'll probably get a B or C.

A lot of people seem not to like the way he teaches, but if you pay attention during lectures, use the learning objectives on Canvas, and do the extra-credit quizzes - you should be perfectly fine and able to pass with a decent grade. His lectures can be a bit boring, but they aren't terrible. He seems pretty accessible for office hours, so go!

The class itself is pretty straightforward and the tests aren't too hard. If you take notes and do the extra credit quizzes it should be enough for a B. Most of the questions on the exams are yoinked form the extra credit quizzes.

I don't know why so many people have an issue with this Professor. He worked with me when I was going through a life crisis and made sure I made up everything that I had missed. His tests are very tricky because of the way he words things in it and most of the stuff that is on it is not even in the notes. I loved his teaching style he was hilarious

Bruce's lectures can be dry, but if you stay engaged and complete the extra credit quizzes, you can do well. The tests have some tricky wording, so Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for me. Overall, the class is manageable if you put in the work.

Yes, the tests are difficult, but mostly because he pulls the questions from the textbook company. The objective list is the study guide. He provides in-class quizzes that boost your grade and has extra credit quizzes . You have to study hardcore, however, if you want to get anything above a C, for some questions on the tests get very specific.
