Funny and puts recipes at the end of each lecture. I find there are alot of differences between him and the text book when explaining things and you are conflicted on what answer to give on the exam. Very nice and approachable.
Good prof. If you study his lecture slides and read the book you can get a good mark in his course. Multiple choice midterms & exam. He makes everything very clear and easy to understand. I recommend this prof.
Hard, brutal exams and tests, not at all like he said it would be; most professors have first mid term with about 20MC and a couple SA, this one has 100MC. Very hard MC that is.
Overall, good prof with interesting lectures. However, his exams are brutal, and often contain a lot of material that you wouldn't even expect.
An amazing professor and very helpful when needed! Exams aren't too bad either. Overall a well rounded teacher!
Very good teacher. Explains things well, easy to approach. Long exams, moderate difficulty. Gives you free marks with easy mini-assignments. =D Make sure you get your bonus SONA marks! Would definitely take a class with him again.
Great prof and great guy to talk to. Gives recipes at the end of every class. Made the class pretty interesting and fun. Exam, midterms and assignments are all straight forward and simple
Very good prof. Makes things very clear and entertaining. Maybe not the most educated, but makes up for it in passion. Exams are fair if you attended class and did the readings. Single assignment was quite easy.
He had good intentions but his classes were painfully boring, did not go into depth, and honestly could have been teaching to 10 year olds and they would have understood. I did not learn a lot from this prof
Great
Good professor. He is nice and is funny at times. His exams were the hardest part. If you study enought you will do fine. His slides and the textbook are a major part in exams so listen and read all chapters.
I just LOVE this prof. Yeah, the exams are not easy, but make sure you read the textbook as well as watch all the lectures and review slides and I can promise you're gonna get a high mark :)
He is funny, great at his job and amazing!! I am taking more psych courses because of him. I am taking more of courses he teaches actually. I definitely recommend his classes. He knows how to keep students engaged.
Bruce is a great prof! He is always in a good mood, and talks about really interesting info! He is always up to talking to his students, whether its through email or face-to-face. I loved this class, and actually WANTED to go!
Bruce truly brings joy to learning. Every lecture that I attended, he was positive, engaging, and passionate about the material that he was teaching. I looked forward to attending his lectures. He relates well to students--very approachable. His lectures are clear and closely follow the textbook and exams are fair. Overall, great professor!
Bruce was a really good prof. The lectures were always long but let us go early a few times. He explains things very clearly and uses good examples. Very friendly and easy to talk to. Class consisted of 2 midterms and 1 exam. His wording was the same on all of them which was kind of confusing at times.
Had Bruce for both 1001 & 1002. Purposely switched into his class second semester because he is awesome! He gives little recipes at the end of each class & makes little jokes throughout the lecture. His marking scheme is 20%, 30% midterms & 50% final.. Very fair midterms, FOCUS ON THE TEXTBOOK! (I aced both classes)
Bruce was a really enthusiastic and excited proff, which made the class a lot easier to stay awake in. His slides were great and he made things a lot easier to understand by trying to relate all the old theories to our modern day lives. Over all, I would love to take another class with him!
Bruce was a FANTASTIC prof. Very clear, accessible and helpful. His exams aren't too hard, either. (;
Very good professor. Highly recommend!
I absolutely loved Bruce as a prof. He really keeps the lectures entertaining and keeps you interested the entire time. That said, I wouldn`t say attendance is necessary. I skipped about 80% of classes and got an A-. Textbook is definitely required. The entire course is based on it. I didn`t even look at the slides.
I took PSYC1001 and 1002 with Bruce as an elective course and I ended up changing my major to psych. He's got a real passion for the subject and teaching, he's very accessible for help and he's a fair marker. Best Prof I've had so far
Absolutely awesome prof. Makes lectures exciting and obviously loves his job.
Loves psychology! Makes it easy to understand and makes each lecture fun :) he is very helpful and I wish I had him for more than one class!
Great prof. Extremely fun and enthusiastic. Exams were fair. Very interactive with the class, and he LOVES what he's teaching, which makes a huge difference. I would highly suggest him. This man knows how to teach.
I had Bruce for PSYC 1002 and FYSM 1310. Let me just say that I loved him in the seminar class, gave marks just for showing up. Didn't need to participate because he gave the marks anyway, and cut class short almost every time by an hour or more. For psych the content was a little harder and more confusing, but he is still overall an amazing prof!
Had him for first year psych! I loved the class but being a first year was not understanding that psychALL MULTIPLE CHOICE MIDTERMS AND EXAMS. This can NOT be fun for some people. However, Bruce was great and still recognizes my friends and i in the hallways!
Great prof for a very easy class. Show up, read the text, leave with an easy A+!
Great class! Tsuji makes the class were you go at your own pace. You can do the quizzes, midterms, and exams whenever. Reading the textbook is mandatory to understand the terms, but they are not difficult. If you put some effort into the class, you will be rewarded with an A. The extra 4% from SONA is also a +. If you need an elective, here it is!
If you're taking it online Id say its more difficult. You have a time limit and I lost 15% just for running out of time. Very frustrating.
great prof took the course online just had to watch the videos, read the textbook and you will get a great mark.
Online psychology was a very big mistake. If you consider yourself to be a procrastinator, not the class for you. I waited until the last minute to do all the tests and and exams, and I didn't even bother reading half the material. The videos are kinda boring. But otherwise, Bruce knows his stuff. He also provides pre-made notes for each chapter.
Overall Bruce is a really cool guy. However, his multiple choice exams can be easy or hard depending on the person! Textbook is needed to pass but can be hard to know what to expect since psych is so broad. Overall it was decenntt.
Really cool guy, the course can be easy if you take the time to go over the slides. Has awesome recipes at the end of each chapter and overall enjoyable to listen to. Would recommend this teacher, he seems like someone I would like to go golfing with.
Best psychology prof on earth. His lectures are so amazing. Even if the material is boring at times, he makes it sound interesting. He is clear and tries to answer all of our questions. He cares about his students and always posts cute recipes after his slides.
Gives great examples and is entertaining to listen to. Is great at redirecting pointless questions
Bruce is a great prof. He's really friendly and funny :) His lectures highlight the most important parts of the textbook... BUT you will do horribly on your tests/examinations if you don't read/make notes off of the textbook as well. His examinations are a challenging, but they're do-able. Just make sure you read the textbook! DO IT.
For the online course, it will become apparent instantly that you must read the textbook to do well. The quizzes and tests are extremely tough and test more than just your knowledge, but your application. I procrastinated this course for most of the semester but still pulled out quite well in the end, but that was with about a week of nonstop work.
Bruce was a good prof. He explains things well and provides his Powerpoints. The readings were very long and the "exams" didn't make a lot of sense.
I took this class online because the class was full. Bruce is a good professor but the quiz's and exams are way too hard. You have an hour to complete 60 multiple choice questions and the majority of the questions are scenarios. These exams brought my mark down. Unless they increase the time limit for the tests, don't take it online!!
He is a very great professor, very clear and tries to put in jokes in the lectures. The lectures were very long and sometimes would speed up to finish it so it is harder to fully understand the last puzzles pieces of the lecture. If you e-mail him, he will respond and will take time off of day to see you. All in all great professor
Bruce is great. His lectures are clear and fun when the chapter isnt about dissecting eyes. He always includes interesting experiments and case studies that are easy to remember. His tests are a little tricky, but he includes some ridiculously easy questions in there just to give you a breather.
Bruce was adorable. He was so passionate about teaching and made learning very easy. THe midterms and essays were fair, reading the textbook is key in order to do well. THe lectures were also important as he explained the material very well. He also ended the lecture with a recipe which was so cute. Definitely recommend!
The midterms and exams are way to hard.
AWESOME professor. Very clear and easy to follow!
Great prof! Makes the material interesting and is engaging in class. Divides the midterms and final material equally so. The textbook is everything. If you study the textbook well, attending class is not that important.
I really dont understand how his rating is so high? I am a third year student and this was the WORST class I have EVER taken in uni. Tests and Exams are brutal, he uses useless subtexts from the textbook for exam questions, and could care less about his students success. YOU CAN USE THE OLD TEXT, DESPITE WHAT HE SAYS. AVOID THIS PROFF !!!!!!!
Good pro, lots of marks on quizzes
BRUCE IS AWESOME!! He's intelligent, funny, easy to approach and makes each lecture interesting, interactive and sometimes comical. Gunna miss this prof
I took the online version of PSYC1001. His quizzes are impossible, they aren't even relevant to the concepts learnt in each unit, they are just questions to trick the students. It doesn't seem like he wants what's best for his students. The textbook was interesting but everything that was on each quiz was not talked about in the lectures at all.
Bruce's lecture modules are well thought out and he leaves recipes at the end of every chapter! On the downside, he barely replies to emails and when he does they are usually vague mass emails that typically don't answer anyone's questions directly. His "quizzes" are brutal and often include questions on facts, only found on google, and not class!
I managed to do most of the course WITHOUT watching the lectures NOR reading the textbook after realizing from the first "quiz" ( difficult test) that there were questions you could only answer through google, as oppose to the lectures/textbook. I found this to be a really useless testing strategy, but at least there were other mark opportunities.
Professor Tsuji is a very good professor. The discussion group is worth a lot and an easy A. Make sure to study hard for the three tests, and you will do well.
Really great professor! He makes topics that would normally be very dry somewhat enjoyable. He is much better than the other psych prof (Motz) in the way that his exams are not overly wordy. His exams are very straight forward and if you read the text you will be fine.
I'm currently taking the online portion of PSYC1001 and it's quite enjoyable and interesting. The online lectures serve to solidify what you have read in the textbook. As long as you read the text and watch the lectures, the quizzes and the other assignments should be easy. I'm expecting to get an A in this course.
Dr. Tsuji is very passionate about his work. He mainly uses exams to grade his students while also offering extra credit. He is a very hard marker as his multiple choice exams can sometimes seem like they have 2 right answers but if you study and read the textbook you will do fine!
Introductory Psych taken online, you will need to memorize the textbook. Prof Tsuji's lectures were entertaining and he kept to the topic at hand, he tries to make the material as interesting as possible for everyone. Easy course overall as long as you're willing to study and read a fair bit.
Are you lazy? Then PSYC100XR is a no-no. It's dreadful. Don't believe me? You'll drop the course just like half the class does every semester. You must read the giant book and memorize small details. You can't Google them either. If you think you can half ass it, you'll do poorly. Otherwise, it's very easy if you stay on track from Day 1. Goodluck
Fourth year student and decided to change majors. Hardest class I have ever taken. I fully understand the material, but cannot seem to do well on his tricked question tests. I've read the book and watched all lectures. Academic has never been an issue for me as my GPA is above 10. Get ready for a D! Maybe a C ;)
Quizzes are impossible, youll manage to get a B- on his exams at best. Even if you attend class and read, you feel like half the stuff on the exams and the entirety of the quizzes were made up. Answers seem too ambiguous.
He has 3 exams (all open book, including final) but they are tough if you are not passionate for psychology. He also goes through every slide at a really slow pace. Each slide 3 points (ish) takes 5 mins on each slide, about 70 per class.
Tsuji is great for 1001R. Easy, but tricky, class. Procrastinators, beware! My tips: - Do EVERY practice test in the textbook - The index of key terms is your BIBLE on tricky q's, forget google - You CAN do everything last minute but DON'T bet on it - Last day the server WILL crash - do your tests before! - Study BOTH the textbook and the lectures
Slides give so much info, i never had to take extra notes
How are people even giving him a bad score? You have to be really lazy to not get atleast a B+. This class is beyond easy. I have never taken an easier course in my life compared to this one. The slides pretty much has all the answers to your quiz/exam. Even if you didn't read, guranteed 7/10 just by doing ctrl + f for each quiz/exam. Not kidding!
Worst class ever. No matter how much I study and use the notes in tests it's impossible to get a decent grade. Our class average was below passing. Take Chris Motz instead.
You don't need to go to lecture, he provides online powerpoints and never really expands on what is already stated. I tried to contact him with some questions I had and have never been so disrespected by a professor in my life. He was so short and very condescending in his answer. Good luck if you have questions. I'd stick with contacting the TA's
Tests and quizzes are tough. He uses subtexts from the textbook for his finals that have no value to the course whatsoever. Even though final exams are open book in the online section it's very hard to get a good grade on it because you need to search through the whole chapter for every question and the test is only 1 hour long!
Don't take a class with this prof if you know you'll get an A or if you're a psyc major. Don't bother asking him for help, you'll barely get any with his attitude. This course is completely online and there's barely any time to do the quizzes and exams. You have about 1m15s per question for the exam. Good luck!
I took PSYC1001 with Chris Motz and got a way better mark. Concept of open-book tests, but Bruce compensates by making the questions very ambiguous and heavily application-based thus quite difficult. Lecture material is important and easy to copy down from online, but heavy on reading material when it comes to the tests.
Makes the midterms and exams basically impossible! I don't know how this is a intro course
Bruce is a good guy, I don't know why he has such a poor rating here. An online class doesn't mean it will be easy, you still have to put in effort. He gives you all the resources you need to succeed, it's simply up to you to use them. Exams and quizzes are very fair if you read the book and watch his lectures. I learned a lot from his class!
Please heed my warning: do not take this class if you hope for 90+! Grades do not reflect your dedication to study! Trick questions & answers on tests, test material inconsistent with what is learned in lectures & text. You can't change an answer once selected and never get to see what you got wrong to improve on, tests are timed 1 min/question!
Worst class I've ever taken. Exams are full of trick questions based on content not covered in lectures or slides, and barely covered in the textbook. You cannot see what you got wrong on exams so there is no way to learn the material. Not enough time is given for quizzes or exams so it is nearly impossible to think about your answer critically.
I am taking my first online classes at Carleton (Intro to Psych 1 and 2) and I really enjoy Bruce's lectures! You can tell he is passionate about what he does. He uses a lot of analogies which are very useful. The course itself is tough. There is a lot of reading but it's very manageable.
Awful and useless instructor
TW/ anxiety. BAD implementation of his 100% online class. Each exam (3) requires you to read 3 chapters approx. 40 pages each. The exams are timed, and gives you 1.25min per question AKA open book means poo. Forget getting an A+ (A maybe, A- more probable, B+ most probable) on the exams. & This is if you're a relatively good student. + 9 Quizzes.
gives 10 mins for 10 multiple choice qs for the quizzes so you have 1 minute to read and take in 1 question (usually long). then he says maybe u should sign up for PMC if u think 10 minutes is too short - but some of us are just slow readers/need more time to process, not necessarily PMC. he asks irrelevant qs and qs from diff chapts - a MESS
Online course- exams have questions that are not from the text/don't make sense. Hardly learned anything from him. Take the course with another teacher.
Makes an important class easy
Cares about computers & neuroscience and nothing else. Took 1001/1002. Hardest classes I have ever taken, and I graduated with an 11.5 GPA. They are insane for 1st year intro courses. I watched all lectures early, took crazy notes, studied, and got only a B+ and an A- as final marks. Math geniuses might do well here. Tests are absurdly hard.
Took psych1001/1002 with Bruce. His exams do not reflect course material. Most questions will not be found in get, some in the text, lots seemingly made up material. In 1001 I did all the readings and lectures . 1002 I didnt bother with either and got a better mark by following notes from a different professor.
Bruce is definitely very passionate about the subject he teaches, which is why his lectures and modules are easy to follow. If you do not read the textbook, do not do the tests/exam. The tests were okay, but the exams were very difficult. Overall he is a great prof but the course is somewhat difficult.
The quizzes and tests have questions that feel like they are designed to trick you. Not sure what the student is supposed to get from being fooled. Questions ask about obscure, seemingly irrelevant content that is not emphasized in the text or lectures. I think there was even some content not covered in text/lectures. Terrible. Dont take his class
worst prof i have EVER had!!!!! i am an A student and worked my butt off in this class but still did not get a good grade. He has specfic questions from one line of one paragraph in the textbook on exams. Half the stuff in both lectures and textbook were not even mentioned on the test. STAY AWAY IF YOU WANT A GOOD GRADE
I took this course as an elective. I'm a third year straight A student and this is the worst course I've received in my university career. It wasn't for lack of trying... I poored effort into this course. It didn't matter whatsoever. I'm just glad it's over.
Terrible, avoid at all costs. Online tests are full of trick questions and questions that don't even have a right answer. I am usually an 'A' student and I also study regularly, read every chapter, and take notes for each one. Insulting to students who are trying to maintain an average to keep scholarships/apply to co-op.
His online quizzes and tests are the hardest things you've ever done. Even if you answer them correctly, and you've double checked that they are correct, he will say that it is incorrect, and there you have a big slap in a face of a barely passing mark on a test that YOU know you did well on!!! i cannot believe how humiliated i feel doing his tests
He's an awful professor and yet he thinks super highly of himself. His tests are full of trick questions or questions with several right answers, you just have to be able to read his mind to get the right one ;). Also the lectures are rendered entirely useless when all of the test questions are derived from the textbook anyhow. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Tsuji is a great guy in general but his tests are so ridiculous. If you need a good grade, avoid this teacher. The questions in the tests are often very vague and "choose the best answer" (aka what HE thinks is the best answer). Do not get baited by open-book tests, even with the textbook and your notes, some questions are very subjective.
Very nice professor and very imformative. However, tests don't always match the material. Absolutely have to read the textbook and also take notes from it. My advice would be to attend (every class!) and then go home and read the textbook and take notes about things he hadn't covered. Definitely attend every class. I didn't and my marked suffered.
did not go to a single class. Read the test book and take your own notes, you will be fine on the tests and quizzes as they are online and you can refer to your notes. Bruce puts recipes at the end of his slides, seems like a cool dude even though I wasn't in the class itself.
if you like teaching yourself and never having to go to class, take Bruce's psych class!!! His tests are all online and theres no exam. Everything he teaches is directly from the textbook! I cant rate him per say since I didn't go to single class, but the course overall is an easy A IF you are good at learning from a textbook!
Cool dude
His actual information on the DSM is out of date and you can tell his lecture slides haven't been updated in a while. Beware of his open-book tests, they are killer. I studied for several days and ended up getting a mediocre grade.
Grade breakdown is amazing. He doesn't want any 1 section to be too stressful so everything is worth 15% or less with easy sections like reflections and SONA participation. His tests are tough (all application of the content) but the 2 chances for chapter quizzes evened it out a little. Not a bad prof but PSYC1000 tests are harder than anticipated
His lecture slides do not help one bit, they barely have any information on them compared to other psych1002 professors!! Although quizzes and assignments are open book, you NEED to read the textbook and make good notes so that you can refer back to them, you cant rely on his slides. Even if you attend all the lectures, the tests are hard.
Lectures provided very limited information on slides and also did not expand much on the topic in general. Read the textbook and you will pass the class. Tests are extremely hard and quite defeating for the amount of studying you put in to receive a poor/mediocre grade.
Lots of energy and effort put into making and following powerpoints. Very funny and honest with students. Did a great job during pandemic with filming well done and informative video lectures (best I had during all this). Absolute jokester emails and CULearn posts. Accessible to students.
I had Bruce for PSYC1002 and I loved him. He has a lot of small quizzes and his tests are only worth 15% each. You do need the textbook, as all of the tests and quizzes rely on it. Everything is open-book, but you do have to know your stuff. I would love to take another class with him!
Professor Bruce is a great professor. His lectures are really good and he's super funny. I had this lecture in the morning and i certainly wasn't bored. all the tests and quizzes are done on your own time and open book , however make sure you actually study cause they're harder than expected. if you can form a study group with some friends
Bruce is one of the most caring profs ever. His PSYC 1002 tests/quizzes are based on the material from the textbook and you will very rarely see questions from the lecture. You must be a good reader to be successful in this course. He does make it very easy to bring up your mark with tons of quizzes and low-value tests.
Bruce's lectures were entertaining, super nice guy, although you could do well on the quizzes by just reading the slides and textbook. Course is 100% online for tests and quizzes. Quizzes are easy, the test are definitely not, luckily quizzes are worth 45% and test are 45% so do well in quizzes and you'll be fine.
HARD EXAMS. WOULD NOT TAKE
Have heard lots of negativity towards Bruce ,however, I enjoyed his class. I admitit was tough and you definitely needed to put in the work but Bruce is super funny and passionate about psych. This shows throughout his lectures and his tone regarding course material. Tests are tough, quizes are lighter. Overall great prof and very entertaining.
Online course. The exams were disjointed and unclear and questions didn't relate to the material. Very disappointing
Bruce is a great guy and fun to listen to but this course was a nightmare. The textbook was so dense and uninteresting but tests are based mostly on them, and a little bit on lectures. He talks on and on and on for 3 hours and I'm fighting for my life to stay awake and take notes on everything. take a PASS workshop or smth. don't rawdog this course
