Extremely competent professor. Very prepared, very engaging, teaches with clarity, and actually assigns homework that applies. He makes math accessible. I've had so many bad math teachers, it is refreshing to have a good one for a change.

I was very poor in MTH and after his class, I improved a lot and very comfortable with MTH. I even got an A for precalculus. Explained very well and very understanding on students.

I used to hate Math, but this dude made it fun. I did so well in his class that I decided to tutor math. He is the best. DO your HOMEWORK and don't skip the class and you will be set. Thanks for everything Dr. Wahl

WOW! He is the BEST! I thought I would bomb this class but found him so helpful and easy to understand that I am looking forward to the next math class with him! He has a way of making math easy to understand and helps you see how to make those pesky numbers work!! Always willing to help.

He is a wonderful professor. He explains everything very well. He is not one to just have you memorize formulas, but rather know the whole concept behind everything. He was always willing to help with anything! I strongly recomend him!!

He had a bad habbit of making things overly clear, every time I was in his class I just about lost my mind. The class moved so slowly and he would start class back up again before the break was over and make you feel like a jerk for coming back to class when he told you to. If you have had a lot of trouble in math and need the attention he is ok.

Bruce is the most amazing math teacher. As long as you're willing to put the time into his class to do homework - you'll do fine. He's very accessible and willing to help those who are trying hard. Not a teacher if you just want to get a req out of the way. If you actually want to learn something - Bruce is your man!

Professor Wahl is an intelligent person who knows how to teach. His lectures and clear. You do have to study hard for his class. YOU USES EXCEL TO AVERAGE YOUR SCORE, which means you will not even offer you 0.0000001 point if you don't deserve it. If your major is math, he is the math superman.

He's pretty good and he all about teaching. if you realy want a good and fair teacher, then he is the one for you. But you have to work for your grade.

I have Bruce for precalc and I think he's awesome! His tests can be kind of challenging, but he is very flexible on hw and he gives some good ec points. I'm gonna take him again for calculus thats for sure! Just don't keep your phone on while he's teaching or everybody gets a quix. GO BRUCE!!! YOURE THE MAN!!!

Turned an "easy" class into a math marathon. Grades homework (for completeness). Tests are difficult. Let me say this-I wouldn't take him with a single class but I would start the overall math program with him (Calc I,II,III,etc..). He will have you understanding the entire math universe but you have to be there from the beginning.

These people below me who rated Prof. Wahl poorly are crackheads. He's a fabulous teacher, very clear & helpful. How do you expect to learn a subject (esp MATH) without a bit of homework? The tests are challenging, but only because he wants to make sure the students absorbed the info. I would def. take a class with him again.

If you need Calc, take this professor. I've never taken PreCalc and expected to fail or not do so well. He is well knowledgable and very fair. I imagine people who don't like him feel bad because he will embarrass you if you don't listen to him or ask him basic Math 1 or 2 questions you should know if you've made it to this level of class.

Fast paced, but the text was great...lots of homework, but just keep working problems, and the tests follow from there. Very helpful in office hours. Liberal homework policy encouraged me to simply get the problems done!

Dr. Wahl is an excellent tracher. He is always willing to help out and gives you ample time to study for all tests. I have enjoyed him as a teacher, and would reccommend him for students who have problems with math.

Wahl can explain Math very well. He is very organized in his lecture, and uses activities to engage students in active learning. I took him on a friday morning, but I still enjoyed his class.

Proofessor Wahl is awesome! lectures are very organized and clear! you know exactly what you have to do to make him happy (label your graphs and WRITE SENTENCES at the end of word problems:). He's very fair and understanding but dont expect an easy A...u will have to work. it worth it tho, cause u end up acctually grasping the subject matter!!!

One of the best! Good sense of humor, very personable, clear speaker. Goes over many examples of problems in class and tells you exactly what you need to know for the exams. Dr. Wahl is a great math professor, and while he can be a stickler for details, you'll still learn a whole lot from him. Most importantly, he's a fantastic lecturer. Dr. Wahl is pretty good. His tests are relatively demanding--don't expect the problems to be as easy as the homework problems. They are managable, however. One gripe I have is that there is very little class interaction. You mostly just sit there and listen. Still, he's a high quality instructor.

Professor Wahl is clearly an extremely knowledgeable individual in the field of Mathematics, but unfortunately he lacks understanding in the area of human relations. He requires an attentive audience and is extremely irritated when he doesn?t get it. He assigns a good amount of homework and doesn?t waist anytime in the classroom.

I took him 3 time MTH 3,4 and 151. He very clear. He will assign HW to do, he will not look at it but its in the exam if you do the homework you will have an A in his Exams. If you have a problem with the material he will help but start from the moment your having trouble don't wait because he won't be that helpful.

Excellent. He isn't afraid to challenge students, but he is always careful to be clear and helpful with information. He always discusses what to expect on tests/quizzes/projects and never inserts trick questions into exams. Best math professor I've ever had.

Bruce Wahl is extremely intelligent, and more importantly he has the ability to relate information to students with very little math experience. His exams are demanding, but if you need help he is more than willing to provide it.

Dr. Wahl is a pretty good teacher. I did not do well in the class. Dr. Wahl is EXTREMELY nice, and tries to be as helpful as possible. He moves quite fast though. I definitely recommend having the book for the first class. You just need to be really prepared and DO ALL THE HOMEWORK HE ASSIGNS, or you will probably get a bad grade in the class.

Best professor ever!! Knows the subject really well, knows exactly how to convey it clearly to the students. Exams cover exactly what was in class, if u do the hw you'll be completely prepared. If u ask a question, he will ask u questions to help u figure it out. Dont say, oh i get it, just answer the questions. It really helps. Thank u, Prof Wahl!

This is not an easy class! Professor Wahl will tell you on the first day to spend twice the time studying and doing HW than actual class time or you will not do well. He's not kidding. He knows the material very well and teaches it even better. I took the summer class - the 3 1/2 hours flew by. He uses almost every minute of class time to teach.

I took his class 3 times MTH 03,04 and 151. Do the hw and you will pass the exam if you don't understand a problem you can ask him the first few mins of the class period he has a time for that. The day before the test he doesn't do reviews but you can ask him how do a problem he takes all the class.

Fantasticly wonderful teacher! Is so understanding and willing to teach. He truly has a heart for teaching. With him all question are good ones. He is not easy and expects students to work for their grade. But is willing to help all along the way if you just ask.

Carrot or the stick, defiantly the stick! This class was math bootcamp. Need I say more. He knows his stuff and goes very fast (I love that). Don't sak questions, and please whatever you do, don't ask a stupid question. Please take good notes (He's very clean) and if you can RECORD THE CLASS AUDIO. Get a digital voice recorder, worth the money!

GREAT TEACHER!!! He is a really great teacher and provides really great notes and examples. He clearly explains that the test questions are directly from the homework so DO THE HOMEWORK and you wont fail. And if you have questions about the homework he will actually answer them.

He is an awesome professor and the Assistant Dean of the Math Dept. He makes math understandable, the ONLY problem I have with him, is he requires you to write a research paper!!! Maybe he thinks we don't get enough of that in other classes, but I know I do.

Professor Wahl has been by far my favorite teacher at NOVA. Prior taking his calc class I had zero interest in math and I wasn't a big fan. But prof. Wahl made me truly enjoy calculus with his clear and understandable lectures, assignments and most of all his dorky sense of humor! Take him if you want to learn and don't mind working hard for an A.

if you are looking to get an EASY A or B.. this class is DEF not for you. however I am not saying that professor DR.Wahl is bad. he is fantastic.. very organized and clear about what he is teaching..but it's just a pre calc subject requires you to put lot of time and work. do Extra credits and study hard.. He is a very organized and clear teacher. He wants to help you understand. But defiantly not an easy passing class. YOU HAVE TO WORK HARD. Do the homework and ask questions.

I loved this class! If you want an easy A don't take calculus, go be a psychology major or something else the world needs fewer of. I think Dr Wahl is a wonder teacher, and with the amount of effort that one should be putting into a college level calculus class, its relative to how you will do! I highly recommend him for anyone who loves to learn!!

I had previously taken a calculus course with another professor and did not understand anything. With Dr.Wahl I was able to understand the material, he allowed for many questions and gave detailed information. You can get a lot from this course if you put in the effort, a minimum of 3 hours a day outside of class everyday.

I took prof Wahl for a math liberal arts course years ago and I have to retake algebra for my bachelors now and I am appreciating and missing Prof Wahl's thorough notes and lecturing style immensely. My new prof has his head in the clouds and I can't follow a single thing. I'm looking through my old textbooks in hopes I can find my old mth ntbk.

I like him, he's a fair grader, good listener, clear and pretty funny. I had great experiences in his class. He will try to make you understand the problems and answer your questions anytime. However, he doesn't mean to offer easy classes I think. If you're not smart, then you should be hardworking. Do all your homework you'll be fine.

He can make very rude remarks but they are funny. Great at explaining things but can sometimes proclaim things as "simple" and breeze right through them without stopping. He helps with all of your homework questions in class which is very helpful. All in all he is most likely the best pre calc professor you can get out of all the bad ones at NOVA

I took Dr. Wahl's math class for 16 weeks. His teaching style is very clear, and assigns a fair amount of homework, which will help you immensely on tests. Before taking his class, I read his reviews on this website, and was frightened because they were all about how hard his class was. I got a high A in this class, study and do your HW.

Gives three tests, drops the lowest one but he's a hard grader. Expects you to be able to answer questions the same way he would. Doesn't give a bunch of examples in lecture that explain how to be able to do all homework questions. Goes over a lot each class. The tests questions are like the lecture examples. Do the extra credit!

Dr Wahl was by far one of the better math teachers I've ever had. He assigns a lot of homework both online and book homework. DO THEM. You're only hurting yourself if you don't do them. Its challenging, but resources are out there if you want them. Heres my advice, go to EVERY single class, watch kahn academy, DO the hw, and you'll be fine overall

If you want to learn math, professor Wahl will teach you! He is very well organised and even though I took a 6 week course I never felt like he was rushing through the material. The amount of HW was Overwhelming, but it was my own choice to take a 6 week class. This is the first time someone has made math interesting for me. Wahl was born to teach!

If you're a serious student, you'll do fine. If you're looking to skate by, don't take him. He gives great lectures; tough but fair grader. He'll def prepare you for university level classes. This prof is a find. He is hilarious and a great teacher. Explains well. Lots of homework is a blessing because otherwise you will fail exams. He has zero tolerance for nonsense. Great teacher overall. Makes it interesting, 3 exams & a final, drops the lowest & there IS extra credit added to your 2nd lowest exam & on the final. He explains the concept very clearly, but is a very tough grader, and will deduct points for minor mistakes, which is annoying. Let me tell you guys that he reads our ratings and improves himself; he offered extra credit for us (in summer 5-week session) after he read a student's complaint about E.C., which saved my life. Thank you Dr. Wahl :)

I doubt the people below complaining about the extra credit actually took the class. Professor Wahl is knowledgeable. His lecture was high-quality, well-organized. It was not 'Messy' at all. Just be ready to deal with a lot of homework. 'okay?'

Mr. Wahl is a great professor. Vectorial calculus is not hard at all, just a combination of Calc 1 & Calc 2 together with Vectors. There are 5 exams (one each chapter) and you get to drop one. There is a lot of homework, trust me: A LOT! which is due on exam day. Very few EC opportunities. The first chapter is the easiest, try to get an A on the test.

He grades the exam unfairly. He only assigns homework and exams. can only miss 2 days (excused or unexcused) He assigns a mass load of homework He test you on about 10 sections of math (WHAT!!!) The exams are harder than the homework questions. He is very knowledgeable in the material WIll answer home work questions

Professor Wahl doesn't hold himself up to a pedestal like most professors do. He cares about students opinions, which is why he reads these posts. He does give 2 EC opportunities. His lectures aren't that boring (it's math, what can you expect?), tests are based off of HW questions. HW questions are graded by completeness. Drops lowest test grade!

Calculus isn't supposed to be easy, about half the class would fail each of the tests but your lowest test grade gets dropped (not your final, though). If you go to class and are an active listener there's no reason you shouldn't pass. There is a lot of homework but it's all practice for the tests. If you don't understand something ASK HIM!

Dr. Wahl provides explicit(clear) explanation of concepts. The Fact is whoever you choose, you won't be able to avoid a certain amount of HW/math problems to pass anyway. Take HIS class. And Enjoy the magic (of) math instead of the magic kingdom there.

Professor Wahl is great and you should pick him up as soon as possible. He is very clear for what he looks/grades for on exams. Professor Wahl does assign a lot of homework, but that is honestly your best source to prepare for his exams, plus he grades on completion. As a heads-up his finals are harder than the exams, but nothing over the top.

He is by far one of the funniest professors I have had. his tests are easy, but he is a bit harsh when it comes to grading. you need to label your axis and round your numbers according to directions and if it's a word problem you should finish your answer with a word. Definitely would recommend him.

He is a very good teacher in my opinion. Your HW is online and there's no need to use the textbook. It was easy for me to understand his lectures and the homework online. There are only four test, including the final and he drops the worst grade. I skipped a few classes which hurt my grade and was probably the reason why I didn't get an A haha.

In this course, you learn Limits and Derivatives, Differentiation Rules, Application of Differentiation, Integrals, and Applications of Integration. Total 5 chapters and he gives almost 100 questions solution for homework and you need to write those solutions on a paper. It makes lot of things hard. However, his teaching is very good.

I passed calc1 with a low B & I was terrified of taking calc2, but prof Wahl changed my view of mathematics. I took an online course & his lectures were amazing, the key is to take good noted & go over each problem on the homework. He loves questions from students & offers student hours. Focus on ch11&10 its very diff. from what you learned before

He is a really nice teacher and really cares about teaching. He was able to break down subjects in a reasonable manner. There is a good amount homework but, they do really help you learn the material better for the exams. I had him for MTH 164 and there were 4 exams and 1 final so few grades but, amazing teacher.

It was wonderful to learn math from his class. He is always ready to answer my questions. He gave me good feedback for every exam.

I'd previously left Dr. Wahl a bad review, but after taking him again I changed my mind. I think that he is excellent at teaching math and very helpful + accessible if you need extra help. It is still a tough class and there's a lot of work, but he is fair. I definitely recommend him if you enjoy math and have the time to do a lot of homework.

Don't get it twisted, Calculus is hard. But, if you pay attention, do the work, and review your weaknesses, you will do fine. His lectures are great, lots of examples so take good notes. All homework for the unit is due on exam day. Exams are worth 50% of your grade, but he drops the lowest one. Will be taking him again for MTH264. Would recommend.

He explains everything in class. if you really read and do your homework, you will good a grade. although he doesn't provide extra credit, he helps you through the class. I would definitely recommend him for all maths.

Professor Wahl is extremely knowledgeable and his lectures are great. He is patient to re-explain material, especially during office hours. The tests are difficult so be sure to put the time in to really learn the material since he can be a tough grader. My one critic is he doesn't provide any study guides or practice exams. Otherwise he is awesome

Lectures are very organized. His learning preference is note-taking. ALEKS homework is the hardest math you'll do. The majority of your grade is based on tests, but test material isn't as hard as ALEKS. He drops the worst exam grade, but expect to know major concepts for the final. This course was also independent, so there were no group projects.

The class was difficult, but the lectures were good and correlated well with the exams. Make sure to adapt quickly to his grading and overprep for the first exam. I'd try to give yourself a 5% buffer to the grade you want before you take the final since it was pretty difficult.

Amazing at teaching. Too much hw though. If you are taking a lot of hard classes in one semester then maybe don't take him.

I took calc with Dr. Wahl over a 6 week summer course. He was one of the best math teachers I've had. He was extremely clear on his policies and what he expected in/out of class and your responsibilities. You have to put in a LOT of work but it's worth it. If you sought help and put in the effort, Dr. Wahl made it fair and easy to pass the class.

Professor Wahl is the best professor I've ever had. 95% of the bad reviews on here are ppl who didn't put in the work. If you didn't do the homework, ofc you failed. His classes are not an easy A, but he explains everything and makes math fun. If you're a stem major, you shouldn't be looking for an easy class but one that will actually teach you.

Dr. Wahl is a great professor. Explains material incredibly well. I had to withdraw because I was going to fail (don't take MTH167 without a strong math foundation; consider 161/162 instead), but I still learned a lot. Uses Aleks. Exams are short, so every mistake hurts your grade. Gives partial credit and is accessible and caring outside of class.

his class isn't that difficult as long as you pay attention during the lectures and keep up with the homework. he uses ALEKS but doesn't have them due until the end of the semester so as long as your doing them after the lecture, it shouldn't be too hard. exams are hard tho but he adds a bunch of bonus questions to them that can raise your score

I really don't understand people who said this professor isn't good enough. I literally drop my previous math professor this semester just because I witnessed how much this professor cares about explaining everything well. he never stops on explaining the entire class time. This professor indeed love what he teaches, and he wants you to understand

He's always available for questions. he really feels like someone who enjoys his job. I would definitely take his course again if I could. The course isn't difficult if you show up to class, pay attention, and actually complete the homework. Exams were very clear and based on information that was reviewed in class. Beware, homework is on ALEKS.

I personally appreciated his teaching style. He explains things clear cut and well. You cannot miss more than 2 classes or you'll struggle. His tests were like his HW/lecture problems. Class was very organized. He has high standards and expects the best from students so he'll prepare you well for future. If u plan to take more math than take him.

Amazing professor. He is very funny and you can tell how much he loves math . He even wears math shirts according to different holiday which is a fun a and refreshing thing to see. His classes are easy as long as you do the homework he gives on ALEKS and pay attention in his class. I had an amazing semester with him.
