Good professor, I took the second semester from someone else, and if I were to do it over, I would take it from him.

Definitely a course that separates the men from the boys (so to speak). Are there easier profs? Sure. Will you learn as much from them? Doubtful. If you need a prof to hold your hand take you baby-step through chemistry, go back to high school. Sorry wannabe docs/dentists. You gotta work to make it.

It's true that he is very hard. His tests are not tricky though, they are just straight up hard. He was always willing to explain as long as you had good questions. Plus, he really knew his stuff. If you really need to learn chem, take him for sure. He only wore 2 shirts the whole time! Kinda creepy

He is an excellent teacher but his tests are extremelly hard.

He is a hard teacher and you will learn a lot. The think I hated about him though was he prided himself on being smarter than everyone. (probably because the only thing he has accomplised in his life is chemisty). If you have smart kids in your class look out! He will make tests hard as hell to so he feels superior to even the smartest kids in class

Hard class and hard tests

Very hard. Take time to use his study hours and sit on the front row. I had never had a bit of chemistry before this class, but I grew to love it. I got a B in his class, but I could have got an A. I didn't realize how much you had to study till midterm. I brought my grade up from a D- at midterm.

Very good teacher. Puts the responcibility in your hands. Has realistic expectations, but pushes you to understand the content. Tests are difficult, but you'll do fine if you attend class and work on the stuff you're weak on. Highly reccomended!

He was extreamly organized. I've never had a teacher who was better organized. On all his tests he would through 1 problem in that we wouldn't know how to do. his final is the fariest i've ever seen, you either know it or you don't, there's no trickery

I would recommend to anyone and everyone to take chemistry from Bruce Wilson - he worked you hard, but you really learned a lot. He was very clear, precise, and helpfull at all times - he even knew how to use WebCT & it was very usefull

great teacher! explains the material VERY well. if i didnt understand i could go to his office. he even let me borrow another book for more practice. if you make sure that all ur units line up and cancel, there is no "trickery" on the test. its students dumb mistakes that get them into trouble. its a multiple choice test, what do you expect?

I liked the class. We had tests once a week. I went to class half the time, just studied the book and did practice problems. He was a good teacher, but you could do just as well learning it yourself from the book. Attendance not required which was awesome. Grade made up of tests only (you got to choose the percentage for the final).Great class.

dr wilson is a hard teacher but he makes you learn the material. quizes every week, 3 midterm tests and a final. his teast are hard but if you know your stuff you'll be fine. he anticipates student's mistakes on his tests and quizes so that makes it tough. he is easy to talk to, and willing to help anytime. no curve and no bonus or extra credit.

he will prepare you for the mcat and the dat. he knows his stuff and is proud of it. he tries to trick you on his tests and quizes by anticipating the mistakes most people do. you will need to study hard but he makes your learn it. dont miss class. he teaches a bit different than the book. not an easy class but what do you expect, its not 1010

His tests are HARD. But he allows you to weight your grade towards the area you are doing best in. For example I had a D until I weighted my whole grade on to the final (ACS standardized test) which left me with an A in the class. He answers questions clearly, and explains topics well.

Dr. Wilson does his best to make the class seem much more difficult than it actually is. He is very helpful and almost always available for office visits. On top of all that, he's a funny dude. I highly recommend him.

he's such a great prof! he is hard so make sure you attend class regularly. his lectures are truly engaging. make sure that you study every day, and work all the problems in the book as well the ones he gives in class. he has weekly quizzes that are not so hard, but his tests are way hard. study study study!!!! got a good grade out of the class

This class was hard but I felt like he did good preparing us for the weekly quizzes. However, he made one of the tests ridiculously hard & class average was 58%, which he refused to curve. Wilson was very arrogant to the class. He doesn't care if his students succeed and would sometimes belittle students if they asked questions.

Really straightforward good class. There are 6 tests and a final. He drops one test. I spent 3 hours studying for each test and got a D on one test, didnt show up for one test, 80s and 90s on the others and ended with an A-. He spent class time lecturing. He answered questions and explained things clearly. Most of the class ended with an A or B

Professor Wilson knows his chemistry and is fairly light hearted. His tests are hard, but if you make sure you complete the end of the chapter homework and know it, you should be fine. Mastering Chemistry will take hours and hours and is just busy work. Good Luck!

Best professor at UVU. However, you have to care. If you are intending on blowing off chem, he will eat you alive, but if you are excited, he will spend all the time he has to help you understand something. The tests aren't difficult: do all the homework, go to class AND take notes, and go to office hours with things you don't understand.

Doesn't explain stuff extremely clear. I did all the example problems throughout the chapters and I never got worse than an A- on every test including the final. As long as you read the book and know how to do those problems you will be fine. Just be prepared study all day starting a couple days before the test.

Hard topic, but Professor Wilson really helped me understand Chemistry. If you have to take Chemistry, then take it from him.

BEST professor I've had in my time at UVU. Took his "majors only honors" chem sections as a nonmajor, and not only did well but learned the subject much more thoroughly than anyone I've compared notes with from other chem classes at UVU and surrounding universities. This course is difficult, but he tells you that from the start. Endure to the end!

Dr. Wilson is one of the best professors I've had. I've never liked chemistry so much in another class. Ignore the negative comments from other people. If you do the work, you'll do well, and he is more than willing to explain it even more if you go to his office. Great professor.

He was the hardest professor but the best professor I have ever had. I have never had a professor be so willing to work with me. He wants his students to succeed. A lot of people will complain about him but bottom line is if you do the work and study you will get a good grade AND you will understand chemistry like you never have before.

This class is not all that it is made out to be- if you show up, read the book, do the homework, and understand the material you'll do fine. The only people that have a hard time are those who still try to memorize equations to pass. It isn't about memorizing; its about understanding.

He can be confusing at times. If you have any questions he is always willing to answer them in class or in his office. You are graded on 10 homework assignments and 7 tests, one of which is dropped.

Homework is very long and difficult, also usually due right before a test. Tests are multiple choice and he drops the lowest. Final is graded on a large curve. He's a good lecturer but the class is very hard. He is willing to answer questions and work with you as well. Homework is all online so be prepared to buy the access code.

Dr. Wilson teaches the material in class really well. He spends very little time going over homework and sometimes the homework is impossibly difficult. He has a lot of experience and is really funny. He has difficult tests, but he curves them to help the class. Having a good CHEM1210 teacher will really prepare you to do well in this class.

Wilson is a really smart guy but can sometimes have a hard time teaching us so we can understand. You still have to work hard outside of class doing homework and studying. He has a small test every other week which I actually liked because then it was more focused on what we recently learned. If you go to class and do the homework, you will be fine

Wilson is straight to the point and his lectures are as such. Reading the textbook thoroughly outside of class will help on his exams. He is willing to answer any questions & take more time on subjects the class is struggling with. 7 exams through the semester (lowest is dropped), final is graded on a curve. If you're willing to work, you'll pass.

This was a tough course, but I learned a lot from Dr. Wilson. I did well in this class by attending every class, doing all the homework and practice exams, and reading the book. His exams are tough--much tougher than the ACS final, which made the final easy. He goes over the most missed exam questions, and will answer any questions you have.

Basically show him respect, and he will respect you. This was a lab class, so you had to be on time every single week or you were basically screwed. Never had a problem with him, and he was actually very nice to me. Quizzes were incredibly easy if you read the 2 pages before class, and he provides good feedback on lab reports.

I love his teaching style. For his lecture course, he actually lectures. He doesnt just put up slides that you could read yourself. He actually knows what hes teaching. One thing I wish he did do was have an agenda for each class period. That way he can tell us what to read to prepare for next time.

If you want an easy chemistry class, I highly suggest avoiding Bruce, but if you want to truly understand chemistry, this is your guy. He has a vast knowledge of chemistry, and he is always willing to answer questions. His tests are beyond difficult, but if you put the work in you'll be fine. He wants you to be valuable in society when you're done.

If youre going to school to learn and not just breeze through, take this class with Dr Wilson. Yes, he can be kinda rude when you ask a question and Sometjmes I felt like I hated him in the class, but now Im so grateful I took chem with him because ochem makes much more sense!

Great teacher. Knows what he's talking about. Extremely difficult tests. Got a very low grade. Learned more in this class than in any college class I've ever taken. If you like tough and learning, definitely take from him. He's great but insanely difficult. Really grateful I took this class, but probs won't take from him again.

If you have any chemistry experience (CHEM 1010 or BIOL 1610 or PHYS 2010) take Dr. Wilson! You won't learn this much about chemistry from any other proffessor. If you don't have experience, his class has the potential to be a little stressful. There are 7 tests and a final, but no homework. He makes his tests more difficult than the final.

Very good professor. You'll learn more from Dr. Wilson than any of the other Chem professors. He also takes time to answer anyones questions before he starts every lecture (even if you ask questions for a half hour, he'll just keep answering). Really funny and helpful during office hours. Ask a lot of questions and you'll do well!

Youre grade is solely based on your tests. If you are taking this class I recommend doing all of the homework even though its not required. Go to all of the lectures and take notes before and as you do your homework and during lecture. Wilson is great at teaching and very knowledgeable. Hes also quite hilarious. He relates chemistry to life.

best chemistry professor I've had so far, he really understands the material and teaches what is important. The class is very test heavy (one every 2 weeks) but if you study they aren't too hard, and he curves them so that the class average is 69%

The best professor ever!! He cares about his students and will go out of his way to help them. You take tests every other Thursday, but it is only on what he lectures in class leading up.

He is probably the worst professor Ive ever had, his class is based on 7 exams and the textbook he lectures from is really annoying to read through. His lectures go on side rambles every class and he always brings up how a topic will be taught in next semesters class so if you dont have to take any more chemistry, dont take his class

Wilson is a great professor. He knows a lot about chemistry and will definitely make an effort to help you if you reach out. The material is hard, which is why so many people complain about him. He's a good professor and also makes the lectures funny. The tests are not as bad as people say, and there's no homework. Be sure to study.

I took him and got covid he wasn't very accommodating to it. I got a 0 on two test and still got a B+ because I studied. I had an A before covid. Chem is a hard topic. I liked how he structured his class. He could be better at giving exact problems to study because sometimes I wasted time on problems but he is patient and wants you to learn.

Very surprised to learn how polarizing Dr. Wilson is. You apparently either love him or you hate him; I fall into the first category. He's a great lecturer and a good storyteller. I always enjoyed his lectures and I found his tests to be tough, but easily studied for if you take halfway decent notes. You won't pass unless you really commit.

I can see why all the reviews are either amazing or terrible, he would talk and do lectures the entire time, not much else, but if you're an introvert you're in luck. You don't need to engage much, and I skipped a lot of class but he's actually a really nice guy. One annoyance was I had to do a reading before each class. 4 papers.

Chem 1220 is not an easy class, but Professor Wilson really helped me through it. His lectures are fast and his class is test-heavy, but if you put in the work, it's not too bad. If you reach out to Wilson, you will do so much better. I met with him before and after every test. He's a great guy and wants people who are doing to work to succeed.

Prof Wilson allowed time before every class for questions and would answer all of them. He was extremely helpful during office hours. If you keep up with the class and read the textbook and ASK QUESTIONS you'll do fine. The only thing he grades are 7 exams and the final.

Go to office hours to get a good grade. Lectures are sometimes confusing and often you don't get tested as much on the stuff we go over a lot in class, and get tested on small things. Professor Wilson is great! The hardest thing is that he doesn't assign homework, so you have to find the motivation to do practice problems in the textbook. He does good at explaining concepts in class and giving example problems. But if you don't put in time outside of class, you won't do good. Your grade is based on 7 tests and the final.

Professor Wilson clearly is passionate about chemistry. His lectures, while information-heavy, are entertaining if you're there to learn and listen. He applies concepts in a very practical way. He also doesn't assign homework, instead expecting you to do problems on your own, so your grade depends on how well you do on the tests.

When I started the semester I heard various things about Bruce Wilson from several students. I heard that he was mean, uncaring, and hard. After getting a fairly good grade (an A-) with minimal effort I can tell you that these students are simply angry that they didn't get the score they wanted (the tests are hard). Bruce is a fantastic professor.

I was hesitant about this class because of all of these reviews but honestly, this was probably one of the best courses I've taken in the chemistry department. He is very clear in his exceptions in his class and as long as you come to class and do the homework (which isn't assigned) you will do well in the class. I would recommend this class.

I took CHEM 4030 with Dr. Wilson. By far one of my favorite classes I've ever taken. You needed to read a chapter out of the textbook before class. Attendance wasn't mandatory but if you didn't go you won't know the material. We had homework at the beginning of the semester, and then worked on our final paper the last half of the semester.
